#JackedKirby - I Fought The Colossus (both in the US and the UK!) 💥💥💥 Jack contributed many “monster of the month” stories to the early Atlas/Marvel anthology books, but today we found something kind of cool to share with ya’ll today! Strange Tales #Issue72 (December 1959) featured a great giant robot cover story called “I Fought the Colossus!”. The story leads of the issue and is the basis for the cover, which was pencilled by Jack and colored by Chris Rule. (Pic 1). 💥💥💥 In pic 2 we see the UK reprint of this issue, published by L Miller in their Spellbound comic series (#Issue6) a year later (sometime in 1960). Although the original art appears untouched, many times the covers were altered/recolored or altogether redrawn. This one gives the monstrous robot a more realistic color scheme, as well as adding a beautiful reddish sunset backdrop and a more colorful cityscape to contrast Jack’s giant robot!!! I have to admit I kinda like the UK one better!!! 💥💥💥 One last cool tidbit from this issue is that Jack’s pencils for the Colossus story were inked by the legendary Steve Ditko!!! Pics 3 & 4 Show off some interiors on the very short story... Ditko also had his own story appearing later in the issue in which he handled his own pencils! The issue also features a Don Heck pencilled story, making it another FANTASTIC collaborative effort from the Marvel bullpen!!! 💥💥💥 #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #StrangeTales #KirbyRobots #KirbyTech #KirbyMonsters #AnthologyComics #ComicsOfThe50s #50sComics #Comicsofthe60s #60sComics #Spellbound #LMillerPublishing #Atlas #Marvel #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #igcomics #igcomicfamily #igcomiccommunity #comicsofig #comicsofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BmoEbvnH3wT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=e7pdl2710kpw

#JackedKirby - Among Us Stalk... The Sentinels!!! Another amazing creation from Jack and Stan, the mutant hunting robots named the Sentinels are amazing now as they had ever been. They first appeared in #Issue14 and #Issue15 of the X-Men published in November/December of 1965. Created by scientist Bolivar Trask to hunt down all mutants living in the US, they immediately attack Trask and the other humans because they must enslave humans before they can capture mutants. Looks like someone didn’t see that coming... hmmm!?!? This was the first month that X-Men was published monthly, and Jack was doing the covers and laying out interiors for artist Jay Gavin to pencil. I love the look of the Mark I Sentinels.... they look very similar to the future incarnations of the characters, especially the ones that play a central part in the Days of Future Past storyline as well as many, many appearance during the John Byrne/Chris Claremont run through the 80s!!! #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #Sentinels #XMen #Mutants #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #60sComics #ComisOfThe60s #BolivarTrask #Robots #KirbyRobots #DaysOfFuturePast #IGComicCommunity #IGComics

#JackedKirby - Is that a head in your hands or are you just happy to see me? Machine Man is one of Jack's coolest creations. But it isn't such a straightforward proposition. His origins come from the 2001: A Space Odyssey series. He appeared in Issues 8,9 and 10. But #Issue10 which was published in September of 1977 is by far my favorite of the bunch! Machine Man, or X-51, was the 51st version of a robot that was saved by his creator when the experiment was scrapped. He has many cool robotic powers, many of which are on full display in this issue. Him and his friends are captured by the Hades Organization and he is dismembered to render him useless to help in any rescue attempt. The Monitor is looking for something in the groups minds, but before he can find it Machine Man reassembles himself and thwarts their captors. I love the decapitated head on this cover. Kirby really captured the spirit of X-51 and his eyes in this one. And it's not just a device... it ties into the storyline extremely well!!! There are a couple of unique things about this issue. First of, he was known as Mister Machine before he was renamed Machine Man. Secondly, this is the only issue of the 2001 series that doesn't feature the Monolith... and would also be the last issue of the series that would lead to the spin off Machine Man series!!! Thanks to @thejesusmarquez and @tonytygrrhi for this suggestion! #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #MisterMachine #MachineMan #2001 #2001ASpaceOdyssey #Monitor #Hades #AnthologyComic #70sComic #ComicsOfThe70s #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #IGComics #IGComic #ComicsOfIG #FanSuggestion #SpinoffSeries #KirbyRobot

#JackedKirby - Check Out My Wild Bill Robot!!!! If you haven't had a chance to check out the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby S.H.I.E.L.D. run in Strange Tales #Issue135-150 you need to do so ASAP!!! There is so much vibrant imagery and overall technological wackiness in these 15 issues that it can't be contained!!! Take this opening splash from #Issue142 which was published in March of 1966. In the image we see a 7 foot tall death machine robot brandishing two hand canons... and he belongs to the good guys!!! He is SHIELD's "Wild Bill Robot" and the gang in the lab are trying to figure out how to use him effectively without him doing his own team any harm!!! But even though the robot is captivating and another example of Jack's mastery over technology in his art... it's not the most interesting thing on the page. Nope... that would be the arrow text box on the bottom of the page... "To give you an example of our generosity, this robot isn't even important to our YARN! We just tossed it in as an added extra for you!" That is amazing. So you are on the first page of the issue, you are marveling at this insane robotic creation blasting the hell out of the page... and the editorial staff is TELLING you straight up this has nothing to do with the story and it's just a bonus! Lol... they new they had it like that, and weren't afraid to advertise it in the work! The fact that Jack would work on a page so intricate (two pages actually) that has no bearing on the overall story speaks to his level of talent... it was NOTHING to him. Not only did he complete it... he killed it!!! So great. I can't recommend this run enough.... some of Jack's best tech work!!! #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #SHIELD #agentsofshield #Hydra #WildBill #Robots #KirbyRobots #KirbyTech #StrangeTales #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #60scomics #ComicsOfThe60s #ComicsOfIG #igcomics #comicsofinstagram #igcomicscommunity #IGComicCommunity #technology #StanAndJack #StanLee
