The Best Friend Showdown
Season four had many, many flaws. One of the big ones was the Rena Rouge vs Chat Noir conflict where Ladybug starts relying on Alya more and more, basically using her to replace Master Fu. We get a sense that Chat Noir feels inferior to Rena Rouge because of this change, but it’s never directly addressed. The most we get is this conversation from Hack-San:
Ladybug: I'm really sorry, Cat Noir. I should've told you. I mean, if I found out that you told someone about your secret identity, I'd... probably be upset, too. I'm really sorry I hurt your feelings. Cat Noir: You didn't hurt my feelings. You did everything right.
Which is actually a really weird bit of dialogue because - as far as I can tell - nothing in the episode revealed that Scarabella knew Ladybug's identity. She hands out miraculous all the time and no one knows who she really is. Why would this time be different? Ladybug could just show up in costume, explain what's up, and then hand off the earrings while using yet another miraculous.
Anyway, the Rena Rouge vs Chat Noir conflict is “resolved” by Rena Rouge being outed again (and I guess that matters this time), leading her to give up her miraculous so that Gabriel can’t steal it away, which of course leads Gabriel to steal it away and fully disempower Ladybug’s larger team, leaving Chat Noir her only teammate.
How satisfying! This is such good, character-driven story telling!
It’s not. This is plot contrivances to the max with no meaningful character beats, but we’re not here to talk about that. We’re here to do one of my favorite things: gush about a relevant Kim Possible episode! Today’s topic is episode 12 of season one: Pain King vs. Cleopatra, the episode that introduces Kim’s female BFF, Monique!
This was a bit of a shocker for me because I didn’t realize that Kim and Monique weren’t pre-series friends. Turns out that, much like Alya, Monique is a new girl, which isn’t a bad call. This was a nice way to delay Monique’s introduction for a few episodes so that the writers could focus on establishing Kim’s relationship with other key members of the cast like her partner, Ron. Spacing out your intros is the way to go whenever you can pull it off as it’s a kindness to your audience that keeps them from feeling overwhelmed, making it more likely that they’ll remember your cast.
The other, more important similarity between Alya and Monique is that, when Kim’s hero partner and life-long friend finds out about Monique, he is less than thrilled:
Kim: I barely got to see them. Right after I hooked up with Monique, the museum was robbed by some glowing-headed animal guy. Ron: Oh, that's nice. Ron: Wait a minute, who's Monique? Kim New friend, really great. Anyway, the thief stole an enchanted ancient talisman. Ron: Whoa, whoa, back up! How can I not know about a new friend? Kim: I met her at Club Banana, then again at the museum before I chased the glowing robber. Ron: So what's she like? Kim: The robber? Ron: The friend, Kim, the "new friend".
Throughout the episode, Kim and Monique continue to bond without Ron, leaving Ron feeling left out:
Ron: Seein' a pattern here, Rufus: Kim does her thing, I do my thing, and pretty soon - we're doing different things.
Which leads him to get a little territorial:
Kim Ron! What are you doing here? Ron: Can I dine with my best friend and her new friend? Kim: Uuh, Ron, Monique, and vice versa. Ron: Bearclaw? Monique: No, thanks, I'm vegetarian. Ron: Uhm, I'm pretty sure it's imitation bear? Kim: She's joking, Ron. Ron: Good one, hahaha, ha, good one. So, did Kim tell you that I'm her sidekick? Cause that role is definitely taken by me. Monique: Riiiight. Well, in... you know I better get to class. Later, Kim. Um, n-nice meeting you, Ron. Ron: Likewise, I'm sure! Kim: What is your problem? You're acting really weird. Ron: Well, let's see. You went to the museum with Monique, not me. Monique was with you this morning, not me. Hmm, pattern? Kim: Yeah. You. Weird. Ron: No, we're drifting apart because you're excluding me. Kim: I am not excluding you. It's just that you and Monique are... different.
Noticing some similarities to Miraculous here?
So how does Kim Possible resolve this conflict?
Well, the plot of this episode resolves around Kim Possible’s version of professional wrestling, the GWA. There’s a competition going on that Kim has no interest in watching (mood), but when Kim mentions the GWA to Monique:
Monique: Why didn't you bring [Ron] along? Kim: Unless someone put a waiter in a headlock, this is definitely not Ron's scene. Besides, he had a date with "Steel Toe". Monique: He scored tickets to Mayhem in Middleton? The GWA rocks! Kim: What?
It turns out that Monique and Ron have a shared interest! Multiple shared interests, in fact! Interests that Kim does not share:
Monique: You know, I still can't believe you met Pain King and Steel Toe. Ron: I can't believe you're into wrestling. Kim: I can't believe I know either one of you.
By the end of the episode, the conflict is resolved not with Kim having to pick a BFF or with Monique somehow being demoted, but by showing that this didn’t need to be a conflict at all. Kim can have multiple close friends that she shares different interests with without any of those friends being lesser. Those friends can, in turn, have their own friendships that don’t always involve her.
It’s a genuinely lovely resolution that makes me love this little friend group because it now has added complexity. Monique and Ron are friends in their own right! Kim is not the center of the universe in spite of her main character status!
I also love that Kim isn’t vilified for having other friends or portrayed as constantly leaving Ron out of things that he'd want to do in favor of Monique. Ron genuinely would not enjoy most of the things that the girls love to do together. At the same time, Ron’s feeling aren’t treated as totally irrational either and Kim even admits to ditching him. It’s a genuine, complex conflict that is super common when someone enters a new relationship be it platonic or romantic.
Obviously Kim Possible’s version of this conflict feels far less complex than Miraculous’ because Kim Possible understood that Ron should be Kim’s one-and-only partner, so his position was really never threatened. Monique does not want to be an action hero and is never given the sort narrative weight that elevates her to Ron’s level or higher, but that doesn't matter. The basic lesson here is still relevant and super important for the intended audience of both of these shows.
There did not need to be a Rena Rouge vs Chat Noir conflict that never got properly resolved. Miraculous could have made these two friends and no, Scarabella doesn't count because Chat Noir has no idea that Scarabella is Rena Rouge/Furtive. Their relationship ended at the end of Hack-San. He didn't even know that Rena Furtive was a thing until she was in the process of being benched and that's the problem.
Kim Possible is not a team show, Miraculous is, and yet Kim Possible has better team dynamics than Miraculous. Monique could have joined Kim's team at the end of Pain King vs. Cleopatra and it would have felt natural because both Kim and Ron had welcomed Monique and formed a genuine bond with her. This is a true friend group that Miraculous can only dream of even though they've been adding new superheroes since season two.
We're going into a season with a full, massive team and yet that team has no established dynamics on the hero side. It's not a functional team! None of these characters have meaningful relationships with each other as heroes save for Alya and Nino since they know each other’s secret identities. The only relationships Miraculous cares about are the various romances and everyone's relationship to Marinette and everyone suffers for it.
The show would not have been harmed by Rena Rouge, Chat Noir, and Ladybug being a team. It was the thing I kept think after watching the Kim Possible episode. Since the team is the end game, why aren't we seeing them? It would have been so nice to have Hack-San end with Ladybug introducing Chat Noir to Rena Furtive instead of a nonsense discussion about an issue the episode didn't even address.

Thaddeus x FemReader
Note:This is a gift for my naughtiest Thaddeus lovers😝
Cw:nsfw, mdni, mdom, slightly yandere, fsub, jealousy, power/size play, degradation, spanking, orgasm denial, after care
⚠️READ AT YOUR OWN RISK⚠️

----------------------------------------------------------
Beneath his touch
Two hours.
Two damn hours since your last message, claiming you'd be home in five minutes.
"Five my ass," Thaddeus muttered, refreshing your chat over and over. The repetitive tapping of his fingers on the phone screen echoed through the quiet room. Each refresh felt like a punch of impatience. The air seemed to hum with his irritation, thickening around him like a storm about to break.
This time, he wasn’t going to let it slide.
The front door cracked open, and Thaddeus remained standing in the dim glow of the living room, his eyes fixed on the figure stumbling inside. The sound of your heels clicking against the pavement was sharp in the quiet. He watched as you drunkenly shrugged off your jacket. He glanced at the clock: 4:45 AM...
You were late—too late. His fingers clenched into fists, and the tension in his jaw was unmistakable.
"Had fun playing dress-up?" His voice was low, sarcastic, trembling with anger—and something more he couldn’t quite control.
"Oh my God! You nearly gave me a heart attack!" you exclaimed, jumping at the sudden sound of his voice filling the room.
Thaddeus studied you as you shrugged off your jacket. His gaze flickered over your dress. It was too much—too tight, too revealing, a constant reminder of how others would be looking at you. The dress hugged your curves in a way that made his stomach tighten. Part of him was mesmerized by your beauty, always confident and smiling. But the darker part of him wanted to lash out at anyone who dared to look at you the way he did. Why did you have to wear that tonight? He didn’t want to feel this way, didn’t want to feel possessive, but it was hard not to when the image of other hands on you flashed through his mind, and it burned. It wasn’t just jealousy; it was the helplessness of knowing he couldn’t control you. He hated this feeling—hated how it made him overthink everything.
When you finally looked up to face him, you could sense the storm building behind his eyes.
"Yes, I had a lot of fun with my friends," you answered nonchalantly as you made your way upstairs. His eyes burned into your back as the sound of his footsteps followed you into the bedroom.
"You were supposed to come home earlier." His words came out colder than he intended.
You liked watching him unravel. Watching him lose his 'good guy' facade was intoxicating. His calm mask cracked, and beneath it, something darker took shape. His jaw tightened, muscles twitching with restrained fury. There was something so alluring about him like this, raw, untamed—no longer pretending. The real him was a dangerous allure, and you found yourself craving more.
You shrugged, letting the words roll off. “You know how it is—time flies when you’re dancing.”
You couldn’t help but lean into it, wanting to challenge him further, to see just how far he’d go. You knew this was dangerous. That his intensity was suffocating, but it turned you on more than you cared to admit.
"I also received a lot of compliments tonight," you added, taking off the heavy jewelry. It was true, though—several guys had tried to hit on you.
The way his nostrils flared told you everything you needed to know. He was losing it, and you were enjoying every second of it.
Thaddeus’s hand shot out, pulling you toward him. His breath was heavy against your ear. He hated that he couldn’t control these emotions. But the thought of losing you was far worse than the anger consuming him. The physical sting of his touch mirrored the ache inside him.
"Stop playing games with me," he growled, his voice thick with frustration. His words were barely controlled, a warning, a demand. "You think you can just—run around like this? I won’t let you."
He leaned in closer to you, a sour smile on his face."You're mine. Every part of you. Every thought you have, every breath you take—you’re mine. Heart and soul." With that, he claimed your mouth. His kiss was rough, filled with frustration.
A series of soft moans escaped your lips, lost in the heat of his mouth as his hands gripped you, spinning you and slamming you gently but firmly against the cold wall. The shift in power was electric, a heady mix of vulnerability and desire flooding your senses. Each movement felt both controlled and reckless, as though he couldn’t decide whether to devour you or protect you from the intensity he was unleashing.
Thaddeus bit your lower lip before pulling away, his breath ragged, eyes dark. He stared at you for a long moment, as if trying to decipher something that eluded him. His hands pressed against the wall beside your head, but they trembled—not from anger, but from the ache of wanting you—needing you, in a way he couldn’t control. He was losing his grip, and it terrified him more than he wanted to admit. He let out a frustrated breath, and for a second, you could see him—vulnerable, unsure.
“I’m too selfish to share you with anyone else,” he said, his voice strained, each word feeling like it took everything out of him. “I don’t want to lose you.” The words hung between them, heavy with desperation.
He exhaled sharply, as if the confession was choking him. “You’ve become my obsession.” His breath caught, and for a moment, there was nothing but silence.
He leaned in, barely audible now, as though the truth was too painful to speak. “It’s driving me fucking crazy.” His voice cracked, the words slipping through his chest like something breaking apart inside him.
You could smell the faint scent of his cologne, musky and rich, a stark contrast to the sharp, metallic tang of your own arousal that hung in the air between you.
You wanted him—just as badly as he wanted you.
With gentleness, you cupped his face. “You’re the only one I want, Thaddeus. You’re everything I need. I don’t care about anyone else—just you.”
Those words weren’t meaningless: there is no other man who could compare to Thaddeus in your eyes. You fell in love with his soul before you even touched his skin.
No matter what.
No matter his dangerous job, the countless fights, or the many mood swings you both endure, you’re always there for each other. Because this is love: you can love someone and still not know how to express it perfectly. You learn how to love each other because love is a journey.
And you will never give up on him.
It will always be Thaddeus.
Because he never gives up on you.
He picked you up, carrying you to the bed, and laid you down gently, claiming your lips once again.
The sound of his labored breathing mixed with the wet, frantic noises of your kiss, each movement coming faster, harder, as if time itself was slipping away from both of you.
“I love you,” he whispered between kisses, his lips trailing down your collarbone. “I love you.”
He pressed his forehead gently against yours, his breath shallow.
“We belong to each other,” he murmured, his voice thick with desire. But then, with a teasing glint in his eyes, he continued, “You’ve been a bad girl.” He smirked mockingly. “I need to punish you.”
In mere seconds, he pulled you over his lap, lifting up the little fabric that was "covering" your ass.
"Wha-what are you doing?" you said, trying to pull down the dress.
"I'm giving you exactly what you need, doll face," he said seductively, his hand moving urgently as it smacked sharply against your bottom, making you yelp in surprise.
The sting of his hand against your skin sent a wave of sharp heat through you. Thaddeus paused, taking in the mark he'd left. His hand lingered against your flesh before delivering another hard spank.
He stopped for a moment to take in your bruised flesh. "You know... you look good with my handprints all over your ass," he said, laughing.
"W-wait," you said, flustered, hiding your face. The sting of his touch surged through you, a confusing mix of pain and an overwhelming desire to feel more. It wasn’t just physical anymore—it was a shift deep inside, where need and defiance collided.
"Baby, look at me," his voice softened, his brow furrowing as he studied you, his concern evident. "Do you want me to stop?" He feared he might have pushed you too far.
You met his gaze, your eyes betraying what your lips couldn't say. His look deepened as your body responded to him in a way you couldn't ignore—wanting more, craving it. Embarrassment tugged at your pride as you shook your head slightly, not ready to voice the truth. Too proud to admit how much you needed him to push you further.
"Use your mouth, pretty girl," he chuckled darkly, pausing to admire the mark he had left on your skin.
"Keep going... please."
His voice was low, dangerous, his eyes burning into you as he delivered another sharp spank. "You’ll take everything I give you, just like the good little toy you are, won't you?" he murmured, his words heavy, as if testing the limits between pleasure and pain. His hand rested on your skin, his touch both possessive and delicate, demanding your submission without a single word.
You bit your lip, nodding as you struggled to suppress the quiet whimpers escaping you. The thought of his rough hands spanking you sent a shiver down your spine.
The sharp crack of his hand against your skin reverberated through the room, filling the silence with its sting. Your gasp echoed back at you, a mix of surprise and anticipation.
"Oh? Looks like someone enjoys being degraded," he chuckled. Despite your innocent appearance, he knew how much of a little brat you were: always trying to challenge him only to get your guts rearranged.
There’s a part of you that loves how he takes control—how his strength, his dominance, makes you feel so small, so claimed. But there’s another part of you that hates how much you crave it, how much you need it. You’re not supposed to want to be controlled. You’re supposed to be your own person, independent. But every time he touches you like this, you forget about everything else. The heat of his hands, the possessiveness in his kiss—it makes you feel like you're exactly where you're meant to be. And you can’t stop wanting more.
You could feel the bruise forming where his hand had landed, the mark of his possession still burning. His fingers traced over the newly-formed imprint, sending a jolt of mixed emotions through you.
"Fuck..." he slid his thumb under your panties. "You're fucking wet." He began circling your sensitive clit, emptying your mind. You didn't care anymore, and the moans you tried so hard to keep in left your mouth.
You were a mess—a wet, sloppy mess—your hair obscuring your view as you whimpered.
"This is what you wanted, right?" he murmured against your ear. His words were a challenge, but beneath the teasing, there was something else—an attempt to figure you out, as if he wasn’t entirely sure who had the power anymore.
Your clit ached so much it was almost unbearable. You needed his touch right there—and without shame, you started grinding eagerly against his thumb.
Thaddeus smirked as he felt your body tense, your orgasm right on the edge.
Finally, he slid a finger into your needy cunt, fingering you fast and hard as he kept rubbing your clit.
"Ughh! Ah!" you opened your legs more, bucking against his passionate touch.
"Not yet, doll face," he teased, slowing his movements and rubbing your clit more gently.
You pouted, tears building in your eyes. He was edging you, and you couldn't take it anymore. You needed that sweet release.
"You're going to come when I say so," he commanded.
You began begging, "Please, Thaddeus, please." You looked over your shoulder, giving him pleading eyes. "I need it." Your nails dug into his arms as you tried to hold back.
"Tell me you're sorry for making me jealous," he demanded. "For making me lose control like this."
You nodded quickly. "Yes, yes, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry." Thaddeus, satisfied, started fingering you mercilessly, in and out, hitting that perfect spot that made you see stars.
"You're mine, and I'll keep reminding you of that until you understand," he said, speeding up his movements.
"Yes! Yes!" you screamed as your orgasm hit you, but suddenly, Thaddeus stopped his lewd touch, ruining your climax. You protested, your desperation clear.
"Don’t look at me like that..." he said, smirking devilishly. "That’s your punishment, doll face." He gave you one last hard spank, enjoying the needy look in your eyes.
The passion had left you breathless, but now the quiet was filling in the spaces with something else—something more fragile.
"Come here," he said, sitting you in his lap, as if he was babying you. He wrapped his arms around you in an embrace that was protective, almost as if he was trying to shield you from the storm he'd just unleashed.
As you began to relax in his arms, you noticed the way his touch had changed. There was no longer any urgency, no rawness in his movements—just the steady comfort of someone who cared deeply and wanted to protect you.
"You’re safe," Thaddeus murmured. "I’ll take care of you now."
He placed a soft kiss on your temple as his hand caressed your head. His scent wrapped around you, a warm, comforting presence. His skin smelled like him—familiar and safe. The sharpness of his cologne had faded into something softer, more intimate, like he was home
"I’m here," Thaddeus repeated softly, his voice like a promise. "We’re okay."
There’s a tenderness in the way he holds you now, like he’s protecting you from everything else. And in that soft silence, you realize it’s not just the heat of the moment that matters—it’s this: the gentle calm after the storm, where love is a promise, unspoken but understood, wrapping you both in a peace you never knew you needed.
As you drifted into a peaceful slumber, the last thing you heard was the steady beat of his heart, and the feeling of being cared for, deeply and completely.

in my 47159th version of a Kimchay reconciliation, Kim posts his video on Tumblr, with this textpost, and tags Chay's long abandoned blog. He then proceeds to leave hundreds of likes and reblogs on Chay's old posts. Chay blocks him because he's supremely embarassed of his Tumblr era cringeposting, but Kim keeps creating new blogs and liking/reblogging. So Chay's (very gently) forced to hear Kim out, and they get back together a few hours later.

So, I've seen a couple of people express concern or feel a pressure to hurry up and write their fics before THK ends in two weeks, and I'm here to just say that you don't have to rush to complete a fic before the show ends. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills or something, but the Thai BL fandom community is SO weird when it comes to its fanfiction.
It's the only place where I've seen fandom last only as long as the show is on air??? That's dumb. That is so dumb! I have been in fandoms that haven't had a movie or book in 10+ years and there are STILL fanfics being written, or at the very least being read. So why do I see so many folks disheartened when BL shows end? We can still read and write for them!!!
I literally just read a TEEN WOLF fanfic the other day, and I read The Untamed fic on the regular. Not to mention, the fandom that shall not be named. That shit is going STRONG despite all the controversy surrounding its author.
So, write your Heart Killers fanfics even when the show ends! Read and write FadelStyle and KantBison in a month, two months a year from now! No one is stopping you! You're allowed to enjoy the fandom and show even after it's done airing! And I will be sticking around to read and write for it. Because fandom doesn't stop for me just because the source material is finished.
#the heart killers#fadelstyle#kantbison#thk#thai bl#fandom#you are allowed to read and write for a show after it's over#it's so weird to me that so many of these shows get no love or attention after they end#like that is weird fandom behavior lol#it's the only fandom space that I have seen that does this#it's why i get so damn sad when I love a BL show and it has like 100 fics if that#like why do y'all not read and write when it's over????#sometimes that is the best time to read and write for a show because you have a better understanding of the characters#please don't let thk fandom die like so many others#it's too good for it to fizzle out#i need it to be like LiTA and KP

To my two brothers?
James and Regulus,
I know.
I knew even before you two did. So please stop the terrible act you attempt to pass as 'desinterest'.
Regulus, drama is my strong suit, not yours. Stay in your lane.
And James, just... stop. I don't even know what to call the foolishness I have witnessed whenever you are around my brother.
It was Remus' idea to do this through a letter. I was half-way through planning my rock-opera extravaganza, explaining in depth everything from my point of view but it seems the world is not ready for that level of cunt yet. So a piece of paper it is.
I love you Regulus. Don't run and don't panic with whatever you are feeling. Love is a good thing, it always is.
I love you James. You're not too much, be yourself, you won't scare him away.
Now kiss!

So apparently it's now been officially confirmed that the "Mangkwan" clan briefly mentioned at the end of The Next Shadow comics IS indeed the "ash clan" that will be featured in Fire and Ash (a lot of people speculated this before but it wasn't confirmed until now).
...which is all fine and dandy, except that kw is still not a valid consonant cluster, Karyu Pawl plz explain, the language nerds are crying 😭 Was this perhaps a typo of Mangkuan or Mangkawn? Or a new dialect that allows for more clusters? Or something else?
Right now my theory is that it's gonna be Mangkuan and the Mangkuan vs Mangkwan spelling difference will essentially be the same as Omatikaya vs Omaticaya (the first one being the technically "correct" one per Na'vi phonetics but the second still showing up in some canon material).
Part of the problem here, I think, comes down to what I'm gonna call the Cameron Paradox. James Cameron didn't create the Na'vi language; he created a small list of words, as well as all the character names (from the movies at least, idk about the comics and games), then hired linguist Paul Frommer (Karyu Pawl) to do the rest. Cameron's grammatical/phonetic/etc understanding of the language Frommer built, from what I can tell, seems to be pretty limited; those details are Frommer's realm. So it's very possible that Cameron chose the name Mangkwan because it sounded cool and simply had no idea that it's technically invalid within the sound system Frommer set up.
However...while Cameron himself isn't the one who created the Na'vi language, he does technically own it. It's a commissioned work and therefore Cameron, as the commissioner, has the power to override Frommer if he wishes. If Cameron has his heart set on "Mangkwan", Frommer doesn't really have a choice but to work around that. He might end up doing that by hand-waving it as a special spelling variation of "Mangkuan" (again like the explanation of c vs k in Omatikaya), or he might end up doing it by incorporating some sort of special new dialect rules for the Ash People. Or maybe some other solution that I haven't thought of. We just don't know yet.
...and Karyu Pawl might not actually be legally allowed to address it until after the movie's release date, so we might be waiting for a quite a while to find out ;w;
#avatar#avatar 3#fire and ash#lì'fya leNa'vi#mangkwan#ash people#for my own nerdy peace of mind I'm probably gonna spell it Mangkuan until/unless KP says otherwise 😅#for the same reason that I refuse to spell the character name “Eetu” like that (it should be Itu and I will spell it Itu gosh darnit!)#of course if the “mangkwan” spelling turns out to be a dialect difference I'm gonna spell it Mangkuan anyways#(while writing in Na'vi at least)#because I write in the Forest dialect so “kw” still will not be valid in Forest even if it turns out to be valid in Ash 😅

ChanBig inspired by the amazingly beautiful fic At the end of your fingertips, us by nubeazul on ao3 💕💕💕
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Chan asks, and it’s suddenly very obvious that it was not disappointment what he thought he saw in his expression. It was worry. Concern. There's a lump in Big's throat. He can't get any air in. “I didn't think it was important,” he says truthfully, his voice coming out in a whisper. Something flickers in Chan's expression, quick as lighting. It's gone before Big can pinpoint what it was. *** Or: Chan helps Big get dressed in the mornings. Big tries to pretend he feels normal about that.
Below the cut, the scene from the fic that inspired this:
Chan takes a step back, looks him up and down, and frowns.
“Where is it?” he asks, his eyes wandering around the room.
“Where is what, sir?” Big says, confused.
“Your—ah, there."
Big doesn’t fully understand what he’s talking about until he sees him walk up to his bedside table and pick up the hair band he left there last night.
And then, because apparently the universe has a twisted sense of humor, Chan gestures to the bed, and says, “Sit.”
That can’t mean what Big thinks it means.
“Sir, there’s no need—”
“Big,” Chan cuts in, his voice carrying a bit more weight this time. It makes Big straighten his spine immediately. “Sit.”
And Big can’t say no. If Chan asks him to give a logical explanation, he won't be able to. It's not an option, after all, to say that he’s afraid that if Chan stands too close, if his touch lingers for too long, he’ll be able to somehow read between the cracked lines of Big’s practiced expression and see all his hidden truths lying there, bare and breakable and weak.
Before his eyes betray him, Big ducks his head in a nod and does as he’s told. He sits down and turns to face the bed’s headboard, keeping his eyes fixed on the wall and keenly aware of Chan’s presence as he moves to stand behind him.
“Has anyone told you you can be absurdly stubborn?” Chan asks, right before his fingers begin threading through Big’s hair.
Big closes his eyes against the sensation, willing himself not to lean into the touch and locking his muscles to stay still.
“Not recently,” he answers truthfully, and hears Chan huff a short laugh behind him. He ignores the way that sound makes him immediately want to smile back.
“I’m glad I remedied that situation,” Chan quips back, and Big is glad he can’t see him roll his eyes in response.
When Chan's hands fall away, Big misses his touch immediately. But he doesn’t get much time to process that, because Chan walks around to stand in front of him and Big has no choice but to look up and meet his eyes.
Chan seems to be assessing his work and, after a few seconds, he nods, seemingly satisfied.
And then—
Then he's reaching out, gently grabbing a loose lock of hair that sprang free from Big's ponytail to slowly place it behind his ear.
The intimacy of the gesture makes Big’s breath stutter; it catches in his throat and, in the silence of the early morning, it seems to resonate loudly in the room.
The moment must last only a second but is more than enough for a clear image to cross his mind: Chan’s touch, lingering, and him turning his face to place a kiss to the center of Chan’s palm in response.

I can't tell you enough how excited I am that you're back and writing for #nyc au and #plant au. If it isn't too personal to ask, do you ever incorporate parts of your actual life to your fics? If you don't mind sharing, what snippets have you included?
Hi doll!
Not really- Clexa is my "escape" so it's not really rooted in my normal life, to say- I don't share an occupation with any of the Clexa AUs I've written, but some things are similar- I'm a queer girlie who loves plants, animals, and whiskey :) I'm also currently in a master's program, but that is screeching to a halt when I graduate in a few (!!) short weeks.

How to Use Absurdist Humor
I will often excuse away the “worst” of Marinette’s behavior with a very dismissive, “It’s an obvious joke, so there’s no point taking this as a serious character beat. Let’s not waste our time here.”
While I stand by that statement, I can see why some people struggle with this approach. Miraculous has made the unfortunate choice to tie the humor to parts of the narrative that have actual meaning to the audience. This undercuts the power of the humor, making it hard for some people to separate the humor from the actual character beats, so let’s step back and look at a show that did this right to show what I mean.
That’s right, folks, it’s time for more gushing about Kim Possible!
For today’s case study, we'll start with episode 17 of season one: The Twin Factor. In this episode, Kim is stuck babysitting her little brothers while on a mission to stop her arch nemesis. You may be thinking that Kim's "flaw" in this episode is the fact that she brings two 10-year-olds on a dangerous mission.
You would be wrong.
This is the lead-in to Kim bringing the twins along:
Kim: Er, speaking of forgetting, I totally spaced on the baby-sitting. Mrs. Dr. Possible: Kimmy, you made a commitment. Kim: Two commitments, actually. I'm suppose to go on a mission today. Mr. Dr. Possible: You'll just have to take the boys. Kim: Mom, can you please tell Dad that's a bad idea? Mrs. Dr. Possible: Oh, Kimmy. I'm sure Jim and Tim would love to visit a secret lab with you.
This is how you do absurdist humor. Is this technically horrible parenting? Yes, but there is no way that anyone is taking this seriously. It’s just so over the top that anyone trying to criticize the Possible’s behavior comes across as completely missing the point.
The other important factor is that Kim’s parents are played as genuinely loving and supportive parents, just in a really absurd way. This is a very natural bit of loving family dialogue about a totally ridiculous version of a normal family conflict. None of these three characters show off flaws that we expect to see address here save for their complete lack of concern about Kim’s life-risking adventures.
If Kim’s parents were shown to be genuinely neglectful or if Kim’s adventures were played more seriously, then this humor wouldn’t work anywhere near as well as it does. It would still be an obvious joke, but it would stumble the landing if you knew that the episode would go on to see Jim and Tim die. (They don’t, btw. The absurdist humor carries on, I’m just giving an extreme example of a plot beat that would kill – or at least weaken – this humor.)
Another example of Kim Possible doing absurdist humor right comes from the next episode in season one: Animal Attraction. In this episode, Kim is up against Senior Senior Senior, an eccentric billionaire who pursues villainy as a hobby, leading to exchanges like this one between him and his son:
Jr.: Did we not leave Kim Possible on a conveyor belt to her doom? Sr.: Yes. A proper villain always leaves his foe when he's about to expire. Jr.: Why? Sr.: Well, it would be bad form just to lull about, waiting for it. Jr.: Why? Sr.: Tradition!
This episode has a lot of moments like this. Moments where Jr asks why they don't do the obvious, more easy/effective thing and his father blows him off because that's not how villains do things! It's totally illogical logic and it's great. I love it! Perfect example of absurdist villains and a great way to keep the show from getting too serious. The writers never wanted you to feel like Kim was in over her head.
If you look at these two examples and compare them to Miraculous, you'll notice a big difference. While Miraculous does occasionally pull off good absurdist humor, a lot of the absurdist humor is more questionable because it's tied to the show's central conflicts.
As an example, let's talk about Marinette's inability to confess to Adrien and all the nonsense tied to that. Her many failures and attempts to know him better are clearly jokes, but they have this serious edge because the show has not set up the love square as nothing more than a source of humor. This is our end game couple. The audience expects to see their romance developed. The longer the show goes on without doing that and the more absurd Marinette's attempts get, the less the comedy works.
Another good example is Lila's lies. There is a solid argument to be made that the writers are trying to be funny with Lila's extremely obvious lies, but it doesn't work because the lies are a source of serious conflict. Lila is working with the villain! She gets Marinette expelled! We want to see her outed! Every obvious lie she tells just grates on our nerves because this is not the time for jokes!
To be fair, you can use absurdist humor in more serious shows. Another of my personal favorites is The Good Place, which relies heavily on absurdist humor, but has a very serious and heartfelt overall plot. The humor works there because the show knew when to use the humor and when to be serious and also because The Good Place is not a formula show. It's a serialized show. One big story told in 20-minute chunks. This meant that the humor had more room to breath and could be more closely tied to serious conflicts. When every story has to stand alone and be finished in 20-minutes, that blending rarely ever works. You're trying to do too much.
Kim Possible's writers knew this, too. The two tie-in movies (Kim Possible: A Sitch in Time and So the Drama) are still comedies, but they both have far more serious tones because they had the time to do that. While the episodes run about 20 minutes, both movies run a little over and hour which meant they could be more serious than in a standard episode.
So why did I write all that up? Because I was watching Kim Possible and thinking about how much better the humor generally was and I suddenly realized how easy it would be to be confused by Miraculous' humor if you didn't have this kind of background. I've seen enough absurdist humor to identify it with ease and even I struggle with Miraculous at times. Like I'm still not sure if Lila's lies are supposed to be a joke or not.
If you're new to absurdist humor or struggle to interpret less overt humor? Then I can see how you'd take Miraculous way more seriously than the writers intended because a lot of the absurdist humor simply isn't absurd enough. That doesn't change the fact that it's humor and I'm still going to treat it as such, but I can see why it goes right over some people's heads and leads to complaints like, "Marinette has his schedule for the next three years!!!" That was a joke, but I get why you're missing it.
#ml writing critical#ml writing salt#kim possible#adrien deserves better#marinette deserves better#writing advice#This was mostly an excuse for me to appreciate how well written KP's humor was#But I figured we'd take a writing lesson angle with it since I get comments about this stuff from time and time#And I don't know what to say because I don't know how to respond if you are treating bad jokes as serious character flaws#Adrien and Marinette have real flaws too it's just that people are so overly focused on the bad jokes that I just *sigh*

prompt: legacy
Vegas twists the ring on his finger and replays the scene in his mind again. Porsche, wounded and vulnerable, and Kinn knelt by his side. At Vegas’s feet. He wonders what would have happened if he’d had time to pull the trigger– first on Porsche, then Kinn. Chances are he would have been killed. They were still outnumbered on enemy grounds, he probably wouldn’t have even made it out of the garage. His father would still be dead. And whatever future he had envisioned for his son had died with him. Still– he can’t help but think about it. If he’d succeeded, how would the main family ring have felt on his finger, instead? “We’re back!” Macau’s shout jolts Vegas back to the present, where his curry has reached a gentle simmer. Pete shuffles into the kitchen just behind Macau, smile widening when his eyes meet Vegas’s. “This smells great,” he says appreciatively. “I think we got everything you wanted.” He places a full bag on the countertop next to where Vegas is working. “You’re everything I want,” Vegas responds without thinking, and grins at both Pete’s automatic blush and Macau’s overexaggerated gagging. “Stop it,” Pete mumbles. He places a chaste kiss on Vegas’s cheek before starting to put the groceries away. “Phi, can you help me? I don’t get this homework.” Macau has managed to splay what looks like the entire contents of his backpack on the kitchen table in the seconds Vegas was looking away. “In a minute, this is nearly done.” “Do you want these washed?” Pete asks, gesturing to some fresh herbs. “I’ll do it, you sit down.” He removes his ring and rolls his sleeves up, running some water to rinse the herbs. “Maybe you can help Macau.” “With English?” Both Pete and Macau say incredulously. Vegas laughs at the offended look on Pete’s face as they begin to bicker good naturedly, leaving Vegas to return to his cooking. It’s not until much later, when dinner has been eaten and the dishes are being collected up, that Vegas realises he never put the ring back on.
ending at the ending <3 this has been such a fun little anniversary project, it felt right to once again leave off with my favourite boys living their best post-canon life

Hey, so I'm collecting people's thoughts on this, and since it isn't explored in canon a lot..
Why do you think exactly Pete fell for Vegas and Vegas fell for Pete? (except the slight stockholm syndrome and insanity, why do you think they fell for each other?)
so i was going to keep this brief and i ended up writing a whole ass mini-fic because god do i have Thoughts and Feelings but it boils down to this:
maybe sometimes when you’re empty you seek out any feeling at all even if it’s pain. And maybe when you’re angry you seek out something to hurt until it surrenders to you. And maybe sometimes you both get your claws into each other and can’t let go. because there’s that poem, you know, sometimes suffering can feel like religion, and when you find someone who loves to hurt as much as you love to be hurt…obsession grows insidious and deep. It’s not love, it’s a trauma bond, but it’s there and they’re going to be stuck in it until the oroboros eats itself alive.
#and it will; vegas was the heir to that ring and it was ripped away from him. again#pete will take it laying down but at what cost y'know?#i don't believe in that happy ending one little tiny bit#sad that more fic doesn't really get into that speculative area of their post-series life because that's the shit i lIke#that type of character study. how DO two people like that function?#(poorly. obviously.)#questions#kp#that 'fic' is completely unedited so don't judge too harshly but my answer got too long so i had to move it elsewhere haha#and now it's almost 4am sHit#just as a disclaimer re: the 'fic' i don't abuse my animals lmao you just sometimes have to make them uncomfortable for their own good.#it's the Metaphor™ that's important here ok#also fun fact i've been listening to 'even in arcadia' this whole time i've been writing (for the Vibes) and it sure. y'know. hm.#'we've got a taste for one another and a few good years to kill / no matter what is real' Ah.#(dangerous on that album is also a vp song if anyone wants my opinions on blorbo music)#12pm the next day update: wait should i tag this lmfao#kinnporsche#vegaspete#17.26 update: i did a little editing to the fic cos i can't stop touching anything i create. i like it better now lol

I love how Apo processes the outside world, accepts his inner world, and separates but reconciles these two together.
I love watching MileApo's deep talks and both of their mindsets intrigue me. As for Apo, he often gives me an immense sense of acceptance and empathy for the self that I - an outsider - also feel validated and healed.
As a psychotherapist, the things I cherish the most when I sit with my clients in each session are congruence and authentic. These 2 virtues aren’t only ‘I telling the truth’, ‘I don’t lie to you', but also ‘I’m honest with myself’, ‘I know what I’m feeling & I’ll embrace it fully'. To me, a person's sincerity with themselves is even more important than what they say to outsiders – because people can only be honest with themselves when they know their self clearly and can accept the ugliest, most gentle, most fragile part deep inside their soul.
Sound easy, right? Everyone says ‘Accept yourself!”, “Be yourself!”; but the thing is not many people know who they are to accept and be themselves. Why? Because humans are heavily influenced by society, education, and relationships. This is very good since we are social entities that can only thrive surrounded by other people. But the flip side of this is that many times we don't know what are others' characters, what are ours; and there are times when we have a hunch that what people push on us isn't right, but we don't dare, or don't know how to get rid of that 'not right' feeling. As a result, we are confused and miserable without understanding what is going on with and within us. It takes a lot of courage and practice to be able to really listen and be faithful to oneself; thereby knowing who I really am, being real with myself, and limiting the influence of others on me.
With Apo, through what he shared, I can see that freedom plays an important role in the process of growing up, especially freedom of will. He is independent, disciplined, stable, and confident in the path he decides. He also understands very clearly what he lacks and what he needs to do to push himself without becoming self-destructive - my favorite psychologist once said "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change" and Apo is the personification of this sentence.
Apo is so real that it makes me feel both close and far away. He lives in his own world, he knows which part can be opened to invite others in, which part he will need to take care of and protect more carefully - Only those who truly understand and cherish themselves can do that. When I work, Apo-like clients are the most interesting and I also learn a lot from them. For me, Apo is really a wonder.
#Apo Nattawin#kinnporche the series#MileApo#kp cast#I wrote this once before on twitter#Now I re-word a bit and post it here#Apo is such an interesting existence that I want to write a whole thesis abt him#Instead of finishing the book that I'm working on
