My main series is it's not going to matter if we fall down twice. It's a How Loki Healed And Got His Groove Back, 10 fic journey, which starts at the New York Sanctum, travels all over two different galaxies, and ends...I guess I can't say. The whole thing is from Loki's POV, and there's lots of Brodinsons. Loki/Stephen Strange is endgame for the series. It's comprised of:

i'm with you on the femme ed thing... i've been uncomfortable seeing how a lot of folks are equating him letting go of the blackbeard persona with just going full femme and i couldn't really put my finger on why but you articulated it nicely. it feels reductive.

I agree that it feels reductive. Don't get me wrong, I'm a feminine man. Ik what it's like to unlearn toxic masculinity and embrace who I am and lean into femininity, and I think ppl have a right to project that onto Ed.

I just feel like we're losing sight of an important tenant of the show, which is masculinity doesn't have to be toxic to be masculine. And even in his moments where people read him as more feminine(sometimes for reasons I feel are a little questionable, but I'm not trying to open that discussion right now lol), he still upholds a very distinct masculinity that I feel is getting overlooked a little bit.

okay SO my interpretation, strictly in-universe as if it were a reality of its own, based on what i know about the characters and story, is that it works as a metaphor because it's a metaphor imagined by someone who does not believe the love they have received has ever been real.

at this point in loki's story, post avengers assemble, thrown into the TVA, he doesn't believe his father really loved him. he doesn't believe his mother really loved him. he doesn't believe his brother really loved him. he discusses past love affairs with sylvie, but he doesn't seem to think much of them, and agrees with her assessment that they were never 'real'.

and yet, loki badly wants to receive and give love -- but he's afraid to trust that love will be real for him. he's afraid to open himself up to being hurt again. so, he says love is a dagger. and this man LOVES his daggers (if only they could love him back ;_;)

so what does he say about it exactly? quote courtesy of themarysue:

“Love is a dagger. It’s a weapon to be wielded far away or up close. You can see yourself in it. It’s beautiful until it makes you bleed. But ultimately, when you reach for it,” Loki says as he makes the dagger vanish, prompting Sylvie to finish: “It isn’t real.”

so, line by line because i'm feeling thorough today:

"It’s a weapon to be wielded far away or up close." -- you can love from afar, perhaps unknown to the object of your love. check. or you can love up close, intimately with the person you love. check. Similarly, you can throw a dagger or get up close to go stabby stabby. so that all checks out.

"You can see yourself in it." -- very poignant! loki longs to receive love because through that he will be able to see that he is worth loving. i feel like this line is VERY resonant with wanting and yet distrusting love. And daggers, if you maintain them well and keep them clean like you know loki does, are highly reflective. so that checks out too.

"It’s beautiful until it makes you bleed." -- i'm still with him. love is beautiful. the way you view love when you want it desperately but are not sure you've had it puts it up on an even higher pedestal. and yet, it can be very painful. loki has experienced a lot of pain with his love. and a dagger, well... loki clearly loves him some daggers so he thinks they're beautiful. but the aforementioned stabbiness will make you bleed for sure. i think we're three for three now in metaphors working.

"But ultimately, when you reach for it, It isn’t real.” --and there's the rub, for someone who has not been able to trust in the love he received before. he's not sure love is real. he's not sure love will last. so he uses his powers to make the dagger disappear. and dagger-wise, this is where the metaphor falls apart a little, and sylvie calls him on it. (although i do wonder if loki has ever considered using invisible daggers as a weapon? hold on let me note that in my story ideas folder...)

so we're three for four in the old metaphor department, and to me that's not bad for someone who is a) painfully drunk; and b) is not sure he believes love is real to begin with.

i think on a character level, it works very well to explain to us how loki is thinking when he thinks about love, to illustrate the limitations he's placing on his perceptions of the love he has received, as well as his mindset towards the possibility of future love. his feelings are mixed! and i think it's because he's started to realize he feels something for sylvie, but is not yet sure if he should trust it.

imma not comment on the whole waldron aspect you've mentioned except i think he did a good job overall on the series and i'm looking forward to season 2 :)

When Loki was Thanos’s captive, Nebula “The Biggest Sadist in the Galaxy” took part in torturing him. But Loki used that silver tongue of his to charm her and talk her into running away with him. Loki was the first man she’d ever kissed (and maybe did other things with *winkwink*). But their plan fell apart and both were subjected to more torture and brainwashing to make them obedient to Thanos. This is what 2014 Nebula was referring to when she insisted “He won’t let me” when 2023 Nebula and Gamora tried to convince her she could change.

The Mind Stone’s influence on Loki was broken after he got Hulk smashed, but just like Selvig, he was still messed up for a while afterward. That’s why he went from “I AM A GOD YOU DULL CREATURE” to asking Tony for a drink, but still acted like attacking New York was an okay thing to do during his trial. In the TV series he’s not going to be in full villain mode just because TDW and Ragnarok don’t happen, because he still got Hulk smashed before running off with the Space Stone.

Thor once promised Loki he would always protect him when they were very young. He is plagued with nightmares of Thanos strangling Loki because of his guilt over failing to keep that promise.

Thor was vividly picturing what Thanos did to Loki when he beheaded him.

Thor cries whenever he watches Frozen because it made him see a lot of things that happened between him and his brother and their parents in a whole new light.

Loki has, in the past, gone to Midgard to moonlight as a lounge singer. Sometimes he performs as a double act with a female duplicate of himself who he passes off as his sister. No one on Asgard knows about this, although Thor is familiar with Loki’s female form.

Loki had a crush on Sif growing up but he knew she liked Thor even though Thor only saw her as a friend, so add that to the list of his jealousy issues.

Loki, like Tom Hiddleston, has a major sweet tooth.

Part of the reason Loki looks down on humans is because they made up fucked up stories about him turning into a horse and getting pregnant. That’s just gross and he would nEvEr!

i would LOVE reading order tips, thank you so much. i got through all the pre-agent of asgard stuff bouncing back and forth between thor and journey into mystery and the young avengers stuff, and agent of asgard but i'm super vague on what happened since then (except for vote loki). any tips are greatly appreciated!

hi there!! i purposely waited to get on my laptop before i answered this lmao bc i’m anticipating much typing to be done lol. also full disclosure: i haven’t finished vote loki yet. i started it but i must have been getting sick of politics at that time bc the first few pages annoyed me so i stopped lololol

anyway! so i won’t claim that this is like THE sequence of events that absolutely must be followed but after agent of asgard but here we go:

mighty thor vol. 2 - this is the main jane foster as thor series! prior to this was thor vol 4 but that was just an introduction to jane as thor and had no loki on it. if you want to catch up with loki’s involvement in the war of the realms (also to find out why his daddy murdered him like that), this will be a must-read. he already comes out at the first issue i think but he won’t be around for the entirety of it. after the first arc i think he becomes sporadic. vote loki actually takes place during this time!

god of magic - this is a dr strange event (dr strange #381 to #385) where loki basc becomes the sorcerer supreme (i hope minor spoilers are ok!). this also coincides with the end of jane as thor. his actions here also have to do with the war of the realms and one other event he got himself neck deep in but just as an added info sort of thing? you can skip this (for now?) if you want

marvel legacy #1 - so that other event i was talking about was loki's search for the infinity stones lol. this one has him trying to get the space stone but failing, ends up waking up a long stagnant celestial. more on this in a bit

all-new guardians of the galaxy #11 and #12 - and this one has him searching for the soul stone, and the stones in general. he’s only in for a bit

infinity countdown prime - this is sort of like a continuation of marvel legacy #1 and he’s only in the first few pages. don’t need to read the entire infinity countdown arc, too!

free comic book day 2018 avengers issue - this is the prequel of the relaunched avengers series! 

final host - this is the first major plot of the relaunched avengers series (avengers vol. 8 #1 to #6) and this is where the awakened celestial comes into play. like god of magic, his actions here also sort of add flavor to his involvement in the war of the realms. he’s also in a bit of avengers #8 and avengers #10 (towards the end)

thor vol 5 - this is the relaunched thor title after jane foster’s thor and unlike the last one, he’s in here a lot. this is another must-read for the war of the realms since it touches on the start of wotr and also has issues happening alongside of wotr. aside from that, this would also be a great preparation for his upcoming solo title

infinity wars - so all that searching for the infinity stones comes to a headway here and it’s a huge character development for him and for the marvel universe, mostly by his hands. he’s in all the issues from infinity wars prime to infinity wars: infinity which is the aftermath of infinity wars (the main arc is six issues)

wolverine: infinity watch - and this is the arc that comes after infinity wars! it’s still ongoing but i think we’re just waiting for the last issue to come out. it still deals with the infinity stones lmfao and like, this is a wolverine title but he’s second main character lolol.

war of the realms - and then this is the latest of his involvement and still ongoing. issues important to him would be the main war of the realms line (six issues, i think. the fifth comes out next week!), the first unstoppable squirrel girl tie-in issue, and then the one with the panels you saw which is war scrolls #002. crossing my fingers we get an update on him in this upcoming main issue lmao

bonus: asgardians of the galaxy - ok, this isn’t exactly loki-loki but briefly, kid loki was a part of the team. i know--confusing, lol. he’s in up to the 7th issue

i want to start reading alliance, but i've never made it as far as the five kage meeting in shippuden. am i going to be in way over my head if i don't watch to that point first?

hmmm i guess it depends on how much of the series you’re familiar with? if you know enough details about naruto up to that point, you’re probably fine, even if you haven’t watched it all. tbh i didn’t even watch all of naruto because of all the filler and the way that arcs dragggggg i think if you have a basic enough grasp that like there’s a war and who started it and so on then you’ll be fine!

i watch it on CrunchyRoll, all of Season 1 is on there for free. if you have a paid account, you can watch the new episodes of Season 2 as they come out, but with a free account you still get the episodes a week later. The last episode of Season 2 airs tomorrow, so if you started watching them now you’d probably be caught up with the fandom by the time the last Season 2 ep airs for free users :)
