Day 12 : Drinks
Judge belongs to @corneille-but-not-the-author
_____
The bar is crowded as hell when I step inside. The population in here is also very fruity. Of course he'd choose a place like this, but I certainly don’t mind. I see him immediately, make a beeline for him and tap on his shoulder. He turns around. He looks older but his smile is the same. Even bigger, more genuine.
“Damn kid, it's been a while, hasn’t it! Hey, have you gotten even bigger or something ?”
His voice stayed the same, too. I laugh and sit next to him.
“Nah, it's the heels. Twelve centimeters!”
“And people say I'm the mad one…”
“I'm not people.”
“Thank god for that! What do you want? Drinks are on me.”
My eyes get stuck on his glass. It's not absinth. It’s whisky. I don’t know why but that comforts me a little.
“Same as you. Haven’t drunk in a long time tho so I'm not sure if I’ll hold up well.”
“You?? Not drinking?? What, next thing you’re going to tell me you stopped vaping too??”
“I mean… yeah.”
He looks so shocked. It’s hilarious.
“I have three kids, Judge, I didn’t want them to live in smoke!”
“Youngsters these days are so weak… So fragile…”
“Rude.”
“Always. Hey, barman, a whisky on the rocks for the kid!”
“I’m not a kid anymore, you know? I wasn't even a kid when we first talked for real. I was like, twenty-one.”
“Still a kid.”
“I have three of my own!!”
“A kiiiiiiid.”
I pout as the barman puts my drink down in front of me. I’m not angry, though. Feels good to be treated like a child sometimes.
“How’s Empress doing?”
“Unhinged as fuck.”
“So very good?”
“You get me.”
I take a sip of my drink, staring at Judge. He really looks happier. I'm glad. I've been worried, but I don't want him to know. Not when he’s finally smiling for real.
Shit that drink is strong.
“You good, Lan Yue? You just got super red.”
“Y-Yup. Huhuh. Is… Senri joining us?”
“Yeah, he just told me he’d be late. Oh I can't wait to hear from all of the school’s gossip.”
“Well… I could tell you but… I kinda don’t wanna betray my students, you know.”
“You’re too much of a goody two shoes.”
“I’m a parent now. Really changed my perspective. I need to be an example!”
“Pfffft! Look at me, have I ever been an example?”
“... Did you just imply you're my parent?”
“...”
“...”
He pokes at his empty glass.
I smile a little as I finish mine. I feel dizzy already, I'm really not as endurant as I used to be.
I’m glad that he’s back. Even if he’ll be gone again soon.
I really…
“I really missed you, dad.”
He doesn't say anything. I can't see his face, everything is blurry. But I do feel his hand ruffling my hair.
“You're too sentimental, kid.”
Yeah. I think he missed me too.
Those drinks are good.

It's finally done, everyone!
The art piece for my OCs from my LiuJiu stories
And
And other fics but that's not important now!
I present to you, Xian Anxiu (Left) and Shen Anwei (Right).
Yes, they are judging you and are saying mean things.
Xian Kai (Courtesy Name: Xian Anxiu): Qiong Ding Previous Peak Lord and Cang Qiong Sect Leader (Yue Qingyuan's Shizun). He is Liu Qingge's Uncle (On his mother's side), and Shen Anwei's childhood friend (And Later Husband... if he played his cards right that is, and stopped trying to set Liu Qingge and Shen Jiu together! ...He is a LiuJiu shipper sue him!).
Shen Rulan (Courtesy Name: Shen Anwei): Qing Jing Previous Peak Lord, Xian Anxiu's second-in-command, and Shen Jiu's Shizun/Adopted Father. Hate everyone but Shen Jiu (And Xian Anxiu but shush that's a secret!) and have an ungodly rivalry going on with Liu Qingge for Shen Jiu's attention and hates that brat for always trying to steal his prized Nappa Cabbage (Shen Jiu).
Don't let their youthful look trick you, both are immortals over two hundred and fifty years old; even if they act childish and petty most of the time (Shen Anwei I am looking at you!).
Those two will later get married and adopt Shen Jiu as their son, but until then, enjoy the drama between them and how Shen Rulan all but strangled his future Hubby for trying to send Liu Qingge and Shen Jiu on dates for the umpteenth time.
Yes, the design for Xian Anxiu was inspired by Liu Qingge (But personality-wise he was inspired by Wei Wuxian), as for Shen Anwei I think it was a mix of OG Shen Jiu from the novel (With black eyes?) and some other character from one of MXTX's Donghua, I am hesitate to say Lan Sizhui but yeah, it looks like it (Also personality-wise he was inspired by Jaing Cheng).

Fengqing x Epic the Musical
So here me out... we have Epic the Musical, you know. All the fun stuff that goes along with it such as the amazing characters... But what if it was TGCF characters instead with the main ship being Feng Xin and Mu Qing...?
Odysseus = Feng Xin
Penelope = Mu Qing
Telemachas = Fu Yao or Nan Yang
Polites = Ju Yang (In my defense I was running low on characters and making this joke just seemed so... right, you know?)
Eurylochus = Zhen Xuan
Polyphemus + Sheep = Kemo + Minor Banyue/Yong'an Soliders
Lotus Eaters = Banyue's Scorpian Snakes
Zeus = Jun Wu
Poseidon = Shi Wudu
Athena = Xie Lian
Apollo = Quan Yizhen
Hephastas = Lang Qianqiu
Aphrodite = Ban Yue
Aries = Pei Xui
Hera = Ling Wen
Hermes = Pei Ming
Aeolus = Shi Qingxuan
Circe = He Xuan
Calypso = Jian Lan
*All of these went off the Musical songs and are based off personal opinions and what I have heard from the songs. This is a constructive criticism thing, we listen and we judge only in our heads.*
#fengqing#epic the musical#feng xin#mu qing#odysseus#penelope#crossover#tgcf#heaven official's blessing#ideas#In my defense... I wrote this at like midnight running off of Hot Chocolate to survive#we listen and we judge

Misunderstandings, Miscommunications, and Misbeliefs
I spent a liushenweek drawing because Practice Makes Perfect????? Back to meta post to stretch these meta muscles again haha
So… there was a comment somewhere on some writing/book channel that ‘misunderstandings’ is like a pet-peeve/least favourite troupe. And I get it. Badly executed misunderstandings is super annoying. It’s like… ‘why is this stupid plot device here other than to make the story longer’. But I think mxtx does misunderstandings brilliantly, and here’s some ideas on why.
Btw, the ‘misunderstanding’ trope is when character A and B fail to communicate and important Thing, which causes Problems. You know, SQQ convinced that LBH is out to kill him, LBH convinced SQQ hates him for being a demon for TWO GODDAM BOOKS *screams in agony in the pits of hell*
Misunderstandings and misbeliefs
(In my humble view) one of the central things about mxtx’s big misunderstandings is that they are fundamentally connected to the character’s misbelief. Misbeliefs are important peeps (find out more on How to Find Your Character's MISBELIEF (or Fatal Flaw) - YouTube) (Another great writing channel btw). It’s what drives character development.
A good example is Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan. SJ believes that YQY abandoned him, which is connected to his misbelief that he is unlovable and alone. He believes YQY abandoned him not (just) because YQY doesn’t tell him what happened, but because fundamentally, he believes everyone will abandon him. Meanwhile, YQY doesn’t tell SJ about the events in the Lingxi caves because his misbelief is that his failure makes him detestable. He’s a protective person who feels responsible for those around him, and judges himself harshly for his limitations. Thus he misunderstands Shen Jiu’s rejection as a judgement of his failure, rather than a fear of abandonment. The key point is that the misunderstanding goes far beyond the initial lack of communication. So it’s not just ‘here’s a plot device to make things complicated’. It tells you a lot about the characters involved.
Miscommunicating on a Wendy’s Parking Lot
To follow up, any character’s miscommunication should make sense within their character profile.
Why does Shen Qingqiu not just tell Luo Binghe that he didn’t want to shove him down the Abyss? Because he’s always putting on an act. 24/7. Hiding his feelings is his trademark.
Why does Lan Wangji not just tell Wei Wuxian about his feelings? Because he just doesn’t say anything that doesn’t need to be said. Ever.
Why does Mu Qing not just tell Xie Lian he wants to be friends? Because he’s prickly and defensive and expects everyone to laugh at him.
It’s not just ‘they failed to communicate this one time’. It’s ‘they always fail to communicate with each other, and this happens to be a time where it blew up into a Thing’.
The opposite to this is conveying a character’s deeper feelings/trauma through miscommunication.
WWX initially comes across as an easy-going, open person, who’s not afraid to say his thoughts even in the face of authority. But there are things he just Never Mentions, one of the key ones being the events surrounding his golden core. His silence on particular topics says volumes about how they affected him, because it doesn’t fit his surface level character profile. You know losing his golden core wasn’t a walk in the park, because it changes him so much. It also tells you something deeper about his character – his self-sacrificial nature, how he downplays his achievements, and how he takes these to a level that is detrimental to him.
So in other words, mxtx shifts away from ‘misunderstanding for the sake of plot development’ to misunderstanding as a consequence of a character trait. And character traits should have consequences! This is very important. (Making a character ‘clumsy’ and it having no consequence to the story is stupid.)
A short point on theme
Here’s a video on using misbeliefs to write theme into your story: How to Write THEME Into Your Story - YouTube. Long story short, easy way to integrate theme into story is to turn the theme upside down and make it your main character’s misbelief. SQQ’s misunderstanding of LBH’s motives is a plot driver for ∞ly many books and weaves very obviously into the ‘see people as more than their role in a story’ theme.
(The other two books don’t fall into this pattern quite as neatly, layering themes in different ways, although I’m sure there are things to pick out if you wanted to.) (On an offhand meta note actually, through three books, mxtx goes from misunderstandings driving a large portion of the plot to almost no misunderstandings at all??? Or at least, that’s the impression I got. Like the identity shenanigans in tgcf weren’t really misunderstandings and more like everyone being deliberately sneaky. I wonder what her latest series will be like.)
If Only They Just Talked With Each Other… not
I think what makes the ‘misunderstanding’ trope annoying is that it feels so arbitrary. The characters tell each other The Big Secret they’ve been hiding and then everyone moves on like nothing happened, leaving you thinking ‘well what was the point?’ Meanwhile, mxtx’s misunderstandings are deep, ugly, and painful. They develop into rifts between characters that cannot be fixed by just telling each other The Big Secret.
For example, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng. In the end, JC learnt about the golden core. Did it fix everything? No. Because JC already knew WWX cared about his adopted family. He already knew the WQ and WN had helped them. Knowing that WWX and the Wens had helped him to a far greater extent than he initially thought would not have made his decision to cut off WWX in any way easier – the rest of the cultivation world would still have hated the Wens, he still had a sect to protect. Hey, this knowledge would only have made his decision even more difficult to make!!! WWX knew this. JC realised this. When JC learns the truth, he basically has a breakdown.
Talking to each other is the start of the healing process. But one conversation most certainly isn’t going to fix things. Note that this relies on the points above. The misunderstanding is so significant because it is interwoven so heavily into the character’s traits, flaws, and misbeliefs. Overcoming the miscommunication forces character development (which should be done with all the care that character development deserves).
Mxtx’s misunderstandings are never really ‘fixed’, and certainly never forgotten. You might see them on the path of healing and understanding, like SQQ and LBH. Or with SJ and YQY, you’re just left with a bitter aftertaste in your mouth. They’re never arbitrary, and that’s what makes them significant.
hmmm... I’m not 100% happy with this post for some reason.
Anyway, comments and criticisms very very welcome!

LADY DRESSED IN RED || PART.2 / ?
Lan Wangji x reader pt.1

WARNINGS: NONE - just my bad English 👉👈
————————————————————————————
Him calling your name after such a long time makes your heart feel at ease .
For this only second someone is here next to you , for you .
You don't feel alone right now.
Even if this moment could come back again this would be a relief .
" Could you please say that again ?" You ask not only to hear his voice for longer but to take in the warmth of feeling calm again .
" Ming Yue?" He calls again waiting for an answer you are not able to give , this time his call reminding you of something more , old and maybe forgotten through the years .
It reminds you of the last time he called it back then on the hilts of the cliff in the Nightless City .
-Flashback-
Tears are rushing down your cheeks, reaching down to your bloodstained lips and then to the ripped fabric of your dress .
Right in front of you is the man you used to call soulmate , your other half .. his words are now as meaningless as the rest of the people's around you .
There is nothing keeping you back now .
"Ming Yue come back " he calls in an alarming voice ten feet away from your spot as you walk farther back , one step separating you now from the void , the hell made of fire .
You shake your head in disbelief.. the man who didn't even take responsibility of his own actions calling you back to live .. live how? Where ? No way ..
You are ready to take another step back but two voices are quick to reach your ears ..
you could recognize those voices everywhere in this universe..
Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying you thought..
you gave a final glance to their direction before giving then one of your smiles , more tears making their way out of your eye sockets.
"Ming Yue don't do this I'm here for you ! I will protect you ! Protect us ! " Wuxian screams to your place rushing his way up to the hill .
" A-Xian .. take care of Yuan please" you call loud enough before closing your eyes for your last and final step .
And yet here you are .
You are falling .
You are free ..
Seconds seem like eternity.
You wait for the crash but it never comes .
You open your eyes looking up .
No way !
Lan Zhan is holding your hands and he is been held by Wuxian behind him .
You hear Jiang Cheng screaming for help .
But there he is the man you hate the most , the man you were forced to loose your joy from, Wen Xu .
He is getting closer.
Panick rushes all over your body watching him, lifting his sword towards the men above you .
You are quick moving your arms with force out of Wangji's grip .
Now is your time .
You fell .
They are screaming your name , calling for you but is too late now .
They realized too late .
- End of flashback-
You feel his hand moving around you pulling you close to the body next to you .
" Don't touch me - someone will see us - you don't have to destroy your reputation for me again , remove your hand please we are not allowed to touch each other you are married now " you tell him only to be pulled closer , you squirm around in his grip only to have another hand come around your torso caging you in place .
" Firstly no one will be able to come in this place except if he is from the Gusu Lan Clan , secondly I don't care about my reputation at this point of time and I do not have a wife " he spokes briefly using just a sentence to answer your numerous words .
You sigh distancing yourself a little ..
" Ming Yue , when did you came back ?" He asks curiously
"Why didn't you contact me sooner ? Why did you just sent a letter with nothing more than a sentence telling me to come here at this hour ? When will you return home , everyone is still waiting for you - " he speaks quickly not giving you a time to proceed it's word .
He thinks that everything is easy now , been alive and facing the truth , every single human being wanting you dead , nowhere to stay no one to talk to , call your person and yet he asks you to come back to the place he calls 'home' .
The place you were kicked out from , the people who would pretty much like your head in a plate , the ones that judged you before everyone else .
No there is no way you are returning there .. not yet ..
" waiting for me to do what ?
To give them my head on a plate ?
To die again, to do what ?
Can't they see that I cannot die so easily ?
Even the hell made universe is punishing me by keeping me alive because I did what ?
I gave birth to a child without been married and not revealing its father because it's reputation would be destroyed.
And guess what ?
you are the father of it but you would never admit it been to scared to face your uncle !"
You screamed at him , anger built up at the maximum.
This is too much .
Too much for nothing.
You can do nothing to protect yourself or your child .
You wish you could see him , hold him but nothing is possible any more .
You don't know where he is and if you will be able to see him for even once .
In this world you are dead and back in hell you are still alive .

Hi....If you don't mind me asking, who are your favorite MXTX characters (top 5 from each novel)? And why? I'm sorry if you've answered this question before.
Hello! I don’t mind at all 😊
Top 5 oof ok. I have not read the novels in a good while so bare with me.
MDZ
1. Lan Wangji: Why? Bc he is lwj 😆 but in all fairness I love characters like him. I can relate to him on some level. He is such a strong and devoted character. That’s what I love about him. I could go on and on about how much I love him but I’ll leave it at that.
2. Wei Wu Xian: Once again I can relate to some of his personality. I love the fact that after all he went though he can still keep a smile and never truely change. He matured but he is still the same kind boy on the in side.
3. Jian Cheng: I love this boy so much. Most people think he is too harsh. But honestly his bark is worsts then his bite. I mean really when has he ever even raise a hand to Jing Ling even though he threatens to break his legs all the time? Lol really he is just a really hurt and lonely guy deep down.
4. Lan Sizuhi: Do I really need to explain why? He is a good boy. He his kind and super patient guys. I love that he doesn’t judge others based on what other people says.
5. Lan Xichen: He is kind hearted and really gentle. But it’s also his downfall. I love how good of a big brother he is to Lan Wangji.
Scum Villan
1. Shen Qingqiu/ Shen Yuan: What can I say other that he relateable? He is basically all us nerds 😆 I really love his gay panick a lot.
2. Lou Binghe: Little sheep turn demon king. I just wan to give him a hug. I’m both sad and glad of his character development.
3. Liu Qingge: He is like a less angry Jiang Cheng 😆 I really love how loyal he is to SQQ after he saved him.
4: Yue Qingyuan: He is a Lxc like character which I love. His story with the original SQQ gets me good.
5. Shang Qinghua: Gay crack. That’s all.
TGCF
1. Xie Lian: I think out of all of MXTX’s MC I love XL the most. He is the most relatable to me. I love his character development and no matter hardship he been though he still stay true to his morals. Even though he fail at some point he pulled himself back.
2. Hua Chang: I know you are all super shock 😆 What is there not to like about him? Yes I am a big HC stan and is not ashamed. I love his sass lol what really got me is his complete and utter devotion to XL. Even when XL had no one he still has HC even if he didn’t know it.
3. Feng Xin: He is my angry boy 😆 not much I can say other then I love characters like him. Akward tsudera. But I loyal.
4. Shi Qingxuan: I LOVE how fluid he is about his gender. He is just really funny. A bit clueless but kind.
5: He Xuan: Oh man the angst edge lord lol. His backstory is so sad. In the end he still can’t move on. I like that he is a good guy. Yea lol
Sorry some answers are shorter lol I got lazy 😆 sorry for long post in mobile so don’t know how to do read more.

NaNoWriMo 2020 #09
That fic should have some warning tags for implied rape and abuse, (and i’ve tagged it.) but rest assured i didn’t described a single thing. I don’t write smut so I’ll just limit myself to let it be implied it happened.
As the other chapters too, characters are most definitely OOC. I won’t use the Nano challenge to make a study on them and figure out their voices, I just let the stories come out, I still wish to apologize for that. I’m still trying my best to make those fics nice and entraining enough.
(Next three days will be connected and finally angst will punch us straight in the face! :D Is someone ready as I am?)
Day: 09/11/2020
Prompt: dirty secret
Ship: None official
Word Count: 2192
"Shi-ge!" if anyone would connect the excited voice to the one and only uptight Jin ZiXuan, that wouldn't be the Jiang siblings. None of them, even though Jiang YanLi always said that there was more than a stern look underneath, but it was her heart speaking, her brothers were sure of that. They turned in time to see Nie HuaiSang and Jin ZiXuan colliding against a taller man who easily grabbed them before they could risk tumbling over. That was a weird sight, mad weirder by the knowledge that nothing strange went around cloud recesses to make them act like that. Well, perhaps nie HuaiSang had a valid reason to behave like that, they found out a little later, the man was, in fact, his older brother, leader of the Nie sect. Yes, huaisang could act like that and throw himself at him. But the Jin peacock?
When he was little, Jin ZiXuan, knew nothing about hate. Many people seemed to despise and hate his father and he couldn't figure out the reason not even . if he tried. Maybe he wasn't the most open and affectionate man, maybe he didn't spend much time with his family as other fathers did, but that wasn't enough to hate him.
Then one day two boys were taken in Jinlintai, dressed in a dusty dark gray robe the older and a cream one the younger who looked roughly his age, his father said they would now live there and Zixuan nodded eagerly. He would finally have someone to play with that wasn't his annoying cousin. But why did the two boys look so sad? Didn't they like the palace? Or their rooms? Or the new, better clothes? Jin zixuan was confused.
The older one locked in his room for hours, studying dutifully. Or he went to the training ground among the older Jin disciples, with a sword much bigger than theirs, and trained until the sun set and the younger one left their plays to run fetch him and drag him back to his room. Back and forth. Every day.
He scowled and snarled angrily at his father for reasons Jin zixuan didn't understand. Maybe their parents never taught them to be polite? But he was so kind and caring with his little brother.
"A-die and A-niang are gone." the younger, Huaisang, explained to him once.
"gone? Gone where? Are they coming back?"
Huaisang scrolled his shoulders.
"I don't know. Da-ge always says gone."
It would take a couple more years for him to understand what gone meant. His lips trembled as he tried not to cry.
"why are you crying?" the older, mingjue, asked. "it's not your family to be dead."
"but it's sad, shi-ge…" he bawled softly against his chest. Huaisang crawled on him and hid his face against the neck over the golden robes. "I don't like shi-ge and shidi sad." Huaisang started crying too and soon enough nie mingjue found himself having to pick both of them in his arms and go back to the palace.
"then stop crying, silly boy."
One thing Jin guangshan didn't know the day he gladly took the two nie boys in his sect was the truth about the older one. He didn't complain when the Nie sect elders came to him and asked for his protection after their master died too early, on the contrary. Having some sort of power over Qinghe would make him greater, even almost compared to the wen sect now. He was surprised the older son of the Nie leader didn't take over his sect. He was Sixteen, old enough to lead them. Or so the world thought. The elders gave him vague answers, how nie mingjue while having a high cultivation was unfit to lead them, really, Jin guangshan never complained. He couldn't see the unfitting things they supposedly talked about but it was fine for him. He had power, he was in control of one of the main sects and he only had to thank wen ruohan for that. In the public eyes he was going to teach nie mingjue and raise him to become one day the great leader he was. In truth he meant to keep his grasp on Qinghe for as long as possible and there was an easy way to ensure that.
A child.
It had been two years since the Nie brothers came to Lanling and jin guangshan secretly took great pride and pleasure in having unfold one of the greatest secrets the Nies were keeping. The younger one, with his poor cultivation and his innocent mind, with his liking for pretty songbirds and for arts was in fact, a young girl.
Still too young, he reminded himself, but in a couple of years she would be old enough to bear his children and at that point her brother could do nothing but leave the power to him if he didn't want all the affair to be exposed.
Yes, Jin guangshan prided himself in his knowledge.
But when he went to inform nie mingjue of said knowledge and his plans he almost didn't believe his eyes.
He almost lost his eyes to a double hairpin.
It took him a couple of minutes to realize he had been wrong, that explained even better the reasons nie mingjue didn't take his clan in hand. He couldn't. The Nie sect, just as most of the main sects, had always been led by men. Lan Yi tried once, but never succeeded. Leading wasn't a woman's duty after all. They were weak. Unfit.
"get out before I carve your eyes out." he, she, threatened him, chest now covered with a loose robe and fresh clean bandages scattered over the bed. Jin guangshan should have been afraid, he knew the strength nie mingjue had all too well, he saw him her defeat his best disciples in training, even the older ones. And look at that. She was a girl.
Jin guangshan barely remembered nie MingJue's mother, she was undoubtedly strong, and her eyes had a gold hue when she was angry. Mingjue probably took her high cultivation from her. Still, unfit to leadership.
"You won't." he simply said. Closed the door behind himself and took a step closer looking closer at the body before him. She was pretty, after all. Perhaps with the right kind of clothing it would be easy to hide the larger shoulders, a different hairstyle would make her look more feminine, even eligible for marriage.
His plansw changed.
"I was wrong." he admitted, a hand reaching to take a strand of hair. Nie mingjue stepped back. "you know, I thought little huaisang was the girl, I would have never imagined. But now that I know I notice all the little things. It's quite obvious."
"no it's not." nie mingjue growled. “There’s nothing obvious because you don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Defensive, Jin GuangShan thought. Desperate to keep herself safe. She wouldn’t be easy to tame, too wild, just as most Nies, but the reward would be even greater if, when, he would succeed.
“Oh, but I’m not here to judge you, Miss Nie. - Nie MingJue sprinted forward, he pushed Jun GuangShan against the wall hand held a hairpin between his eyes, definitely not afraid to use it. He remained calm. - I can understand why you never mentioned it. You, a woman, unable to lead your clan at your father’s too early death. Your brother, still too little, his cultivation too poor. The Nie Sect is destined to fall.”
Nie MingJue wasn't to speak back, to say once more he was a man, no matter what his body would say, he had always been a man ever since he had memory, and as such both his parents and HuaiSang's mother raised him. As the one he truly was.
“Sometimes the reincarnation cycle get messed up a little. Sometimes the heavens like to test our strength in order to make us stronger.”
“Why do they like it? It’s not fun! It’s painful.” Nie MingJue complained.
“Because they have yet to learn, - His father said fastening a braid on his head. - That us humans will find a way to defy them. There’s nothing wrong in the way you are or you feel.”
“It’s unbalanced.”
“And then you find your own way to balance it. Show them not to mess up with us Nies.” Yue HuangShui laughed and Nie MingJue followed their worlds ever since.
“But I have a way to prevent it.” Jin GuangShan’s voice brought him back to reality. There was something in his look that MingJue didn’t like, something that screamed at him bot to trust him.
“What?” His voice came out strangled and almost shy, he shuddered as the Jin Leader moved closer, his hand opening the robe just enough to expose his skin.
“A rightful heir.”
Nie MingJue always cried more than his little brother Huaisang, that was common knowledge for most people who knew them. He did his best to look stern when outside in public, he took every hit and every hint and let them build up inside of him only to explode when he was finally alone.
“Rightful my ass.” He muttered in anger and frustration some months later when he found his usual robe was too tight and uncomfortable and he settled for something loose.
“If he dares to set foot in the Unclean Realms I’m going to throw him down the walls.” He threw a warmer robe over his shaking shoulders, as he emptied a bowl outside. His qi rattled along with his anger and he ended up feeling sick once more.
Maybe in that way he would get rid of — No.
He fell on his knees, hands pressed over his mouth in shock. How could he even think that? What kind of monster would ever think that.tears fell and he curled up on himself.
“Shi-ge, do you still feel sick? Do I have to call a healer?” He yelled at Jin ZiXuan too Levi him alone.
“Da-ge you need to eat something.” Nie Huaisang put his head inside the room and looked at where his brother was curled on the floor. “I have soup.”
“And fruit.” ZiXuan chimed in, a plate held carefully on a tray next to a steaming bowl. “I’ve asked A-Fu to cut some bunnies in the apples!”
“I’m not hungry.” They left the tray inside the room and with a look at each other they left.
“Shi-ge…” Jin ZiXuan called sleepily. “Jue-gege…” He poked at his cheek until he finally woke up to find the young Jin heir with a consumed candle and a blanket standing next to his bed, Huaisang sleeping soundly on his own bed against the wall.
“What A-Xuan?” He yawned and the boy climbed on the bed next to him holding the blanket at his chest.
“Do you like A-Xuan?” Nie MingJue nodded, not in the right mood for that kind of conversation, and neither was ZiXuan, both too sleepy for that.
“Will you like Meimei too?”
“How can you say it will be a little girl?” He asked, voice softening as ZiXuan bended over and curled over his chest and stomach.
“No stealing Da-ge…” Huaisang slurred climbing on the now crowded bed and fast falling back asleep.
“I’d like a little sister. - He revealed closing his eyes. - but a little brother would be nice too. A-Xuan will like him anyway. A lot lot.”
When the time came Nie MingJue almost refused to look at the little things crying at the top of her lungs. He managed to ignore her for three whole minutes before feeling his chest tight at her cries and gathering her in his arms where she settled comfortably.
“She’s so pretty.” Jin ZiXuan nodded in agreement with huaisang, his finger held in her tiny hand without the intention of letting go. She was going to be a Nie, MingJue said. She would never be a Jin, she wouldn’t grow up in Lanling but in Qinghe, she would never be one of the many bastards and, even more importantly, she would never be recognized as Jin GuangShan’s daughter.
“But she’s still your Meimei.” He assured to a mildly worried ZiXuan who, in answer, hugged her little arm and brushed his cheek against her head like HuaiSang always used to do in affection.
A young girl in dark gray robes ran from behind Nie MingJue and threw herself at Jin ZiXuan who promptly caught her.
“Da-ge! I want to show you something when you come to Qinghe!” She exclaimed excitedly before throwing herself in the same fashion at Nie huaisang who, while trying to catch her, tumbled on the grass with her arms secured around his neck.
“I’ve heard some things from Huaisang during this past months.” Jin ZiXuan said, his voice vague. “About a proper Master Nie who tamed the great beast of the mountains.” Nie MingJue barely hid a smile gathering the little girl on his arm and dragging HuaiSang back on his feet.
“Can we expect a new little brother?”

Jiang Cheng vs Shen Qingqiu (Jiu)
Ahhh, a meanness for a meanness, I see :3 Let’s see, purple JiuJiu or teal JiuJiu… ooof this is gonna get long while I struggle with choosing lmao.
Jiang Cheng was the first MXTX character I properly loved while growing to love them even more as time went on, compared to other MDZS characters I loved at first who I’ve grown… sick of constantly seeing, if not actually disliking them. (It’s overexposure to your dull presence in the present storyline and half of MDZS fan content seeming to be Gusu-based post-canon domesticity, WWX, I promise. I’ll always consider you an interesting character before MXY got involved.) Meanwhile, finally reaching the lategame reveals about Shen Jiu as opposed to vague, MTLed spoilers heard from other people is the most excited I’ve been to read a character’s backstory in like… forever.
It’s a lot easier to get to grips with Shen Jiu as a character, since actual chapters involving him are 2 main chapters and an enclosed series of extras which condense his life into a very short, if fascinating to parallel with the wider story, space, while Jiang Cheng’s appearances are spread more thinly across a far longer novel and period of seen and unseen time (which I have not… finished, which impacts my ability to enjoy the character.) I feel like it’s a bit unfair to give it to Shen Jiu, since Shen Jiu does have the ‘easier to parse’ element, or Jiang Cheng, because I don’t have the proper context for him. There’s no way I can properly understand of the MDZS characters without having read the whole novel.
On that note, I will judge them anyway! The two of them occupy the same narrative role, foil to the love interest, the big vestige of the past confronted by the protagonist at the end (which, again, for Jiang Cheng, I have not yet actually read in proper context.) Let’s just get out the way that Lan Wangji is… not one of my top five, while that I do immensely care about Luo Binghe, but that both Jiang Cheng and Shen Jiu fulfil the role juxtaposing well.
Jiang Cheng isn’t a child abuser, despite what annoying people say, while Shen Jiu undeniably is. Shen Jiu is an example of the cycle of abuse and all his attempts at becoming and being better being thrown back in his face, and on many occasions causing him extreme pain and degradation. Luo Binghe is himself, but with a touch better circumstances, and that’s enough to make Shen Jiu wildly despite him. Meanwhile, Jiang Cheng does his best to help raise Jin Ling well, all his threats being empty, and actively shelters and confers more privilege than is actually fair onto him (the nets. I’m talking about the nets.)
Jiang Cheng is someone born into privilege who had to claw it back from nothing, but was seen by others as having the right to do so due to his family background. Shen Jiu is someone who had the least privilege possible as a slave, who clawed his way up from nothing to also becoming a peak lord. Shen Jiu's revenge is personal and is used to cast him down; Jiang Cheng's is for his family, and he uses it to pull himself back up. They’re both solitary figures, with Jiang Cheng being excluded by every other major sect leader in the region deciding to become a Triumvirate, and Shen Jiu being despised enough by most other peak lords that they cheer his ‘amnesia’, which really is his death. Their brother figures abandon them, and they wallow in bitterness over it for years before their last small token is given over (the forgiveness that takes the form of telling Yue Qingyuan to leave, Chenqing to Wei Wuxian.
They are extremely similar. The main differences are that one isn’t a child abuser, and that the other was born into privilege. One gets the chance to go on living and the chance to change and have his life improve for the better. The other is torn out of the story where everyone else gets the chance to become better people, who always believed things would turn out badly and that he was a terrible person and all his attempts to do good were meaningless (and yet did some anyway, such as with Liu Qingge, which did indeed backfire.)
While you can argue that he got what was coming in PIDW, as Shen Jiu actually said himself in the extras, Shen Jiu’s life in SV is so much more unfair than Jiang Cheng’s. They’re both interesting characters, but Shen Jiu never had a chance at successfully breaking out of the cycle with his mindset and the results of his actions, and was then just killed off for the sake of someone using his body (which, with his backstory of being called an animal, and “goods” and then his new, v privileged passenger also thinking of him as less than human and also “goods”… Well, realising that he is a person and wishing he could return, and that everything might be okay if he did is the apotheosis of Shen Yuan’s character development, so it’s not like it’s a meaningless thing. But still.
They’re both very similar, and very interesting and well-rounded characters. But for the sheer unfairness of his SV fate, I’m giving it to Shen Jiu. Though Jiang Cheng gets kudos for… not abusing children so badly that when they’re all-powerful demon lords, they still try to protect themselves from you when injured. (Even if it is a commentary on masters being really shitty to their students in xianxia novels.) …Maybe closer to a tie then.
(Sidenote since it doesn’t really fit the character vs character vibe: I feel kinda bad about my relationship to MDZS, since it feels like I got really tired of it before I got the chance to finish the novel, when I was… really excited and attached to it in the period immediately after the end of the first donghua, while I got really, really invested in SVSSS and actually reached the end of it. Maybe it’s that I keep getting slapped in the face with content because it’s become such a large fandom (...the idol stans, so many...), maybe it’s that all the new adaptions that make me feel like I’m falling behind in a race rather than actually Enjoying What I’m Reading, maybe it’s because certain subsections within the later MXTX novels fandom tend to be really shitty about the one MXTX novel I haven’t had to force myself to keep on reading and actually go back to on a regular basis… idk, I wanna take a step back and re-evaluate and actually get to grips with the story, but things keep moving too fast for me to be able to do so. Maybe that’s why I’ve ended up really hating a lot of elements from it when normally I feel like I’m fairly chill with stories…)
#hmmm i feel like i'd be in danger actually putting the fandom in the tags so#jiang cheng#shen jiu#scum villain

Personality:
Naoki is an energetic, eccentric, and bold girl, with her biggest strength being honesty and an extremely extrovert personality. While it is initially assumed that she has a highly poor academic record due to her disinterest in studying, Naoki is actually highly intelligent to a point it could even rival with Reiji’s, due to being strictly raised in a traditional, political household where she had high expectations to excel at everything. Upon feeling suffocated by formalities, traditions, and high expectations by her adoptive father, She has always desired freedom and to find a place where she is allowed to be who she is.
This desperate wish became the sole reason she recklessly accepted Karlheinz’s offer which exchanges the freedom she seeks, and this is why she willingly stays with the Sakamaki brothers and follows their rules instead of escaping or resisting. Even upon becoming a sacrificial bride and choosing Subaru, and when he attempt to fluster Naoki by commenting how she looked like she was trying to say that she wants to become his woman by wanting him to suck her blood, Naoki took this seriously as an offer from Subaru and happily agreed to become his woman, which made him flustered instead; This is because Naoki highly despised her arranged (and highly abusive) fiancé and is willing to be Subaru’s woman to keep herself away from her ex-fiancé. Even if Subaru himself becomes the one that hurts her instead.
Despite the abuse by the hand of her adoptive father and her fiancé, Naoki finds salvation upon discovering and falling in love with rap music, which helped her get by emotionally. Her source of strength comes from rap, as she aspires o become a rapper, and wishes to dominate the nation with her music as it is what kept her to stay strong and hopes it would impact other’s lives and help them stay strong.
Despite her lively personality, Naoki admits that she does not fear death. Because of her stressful childhood to be the “perfect daughter” with high expectations before discovering rap music, she had already come to terms to accepting death as there has been many times where what her father and her fiancé has put her through has made her want to succumb to death; It isn’t until by the Maniac arc of the HDB Saga where she begins to fear death because of Subaru.
She also loves food to a point where she won’t mind eating anything and when asked about her favorite food, she would reply with “All of the above”. Despite having always being top of her class, Naoki has Thalassophobia, an intense and persistent fear of the sea or of sea travel, due to traumatizing experiences that almost drowned her multiple times caused and exploited by her arranged fiancé when they were younger.
~
Strengths: Patience, endurance, devotion, fast-learner, observant, highly intelligent, wise, bright, athletic, extroverted, persepctive, hard-working, kind-hearted, protective, goal-oriented, empathetic, playful, a realist, optimistic, friendly, supportive, serious when needed, self-confident, fun-loving, open, and expressive.
Flaws: Stubborn, persistent, big eater, highly curious, strong-willed, passive, has Thalassophobia (an intense and persistent fear of the sea or of sea travel), outspoken, rebellious (to an extent), fearful of her father and ex-fiance, confused, mostly fearless (has no fear of dying), lazy when it comes to studies, hasty (whenever she does feels fear), skeptical when she can see through facades, exasperating at times, slightly naive when it comes to social affairs, tend to get panic and anxious whenever it comes to her past (including her ex-fiancé and her adoptive father), lonely, unwittingly yet emotionally dependent, and sometimes silly.
Skills: Rapping, writing music, dancing, baking, is able to speak Chinese, English, and Korean, her intelligence (has even gotten a higher score than Reiji's), has high patience, high stamina, a fast runner, enhanced sense of smell, slightly stronger than normal humans, good listening skills, reading people and their emotions, skilled at playing on the piano, singing (she doesn’t like to sing), has good flexibility, charisma, negotiation skills, has slow but steady healing, quick thinker, surprisingly observant, and is slowly getting good at housework.
~
History:
For as long as she can remember, Enjo Naoki was raised in a strict household with a politician as a father by the name of “Enjo Riki”. Being the only daughter, she was always pressured to have the image of the perfect child that is expected to obey, to never talk back or complain, and to push past her own limits to meet the high expectations placed upon her. He even forces her to take a daily routine of classes every early morning, forces her on a diet, and places her in prestigious, all-girl schools where she is surrounded by snobbish, rich girls. While she wished to believe her father secretly did care for her, Riki disregards her as a tool and only uses her to gain more political power; His desire for power in the political world runs deep to a point he arranges an political marriage for Naoki to a business partner’s son, Mizushima Satoshi, who was Naoki’s tormentor ever since childhood and was even the person responsible for Naoki’s Thalassophobia by pushing and even throwing her off the boat into the ocean where there were cases where she almost drowns. Even when they both get older into teenagers, Satoshi torment her by touching her sexually; Which causes Naoki to develop genophobia (fear of sexual relations or sexual intercourse). Naoki was never able to talk about it with her father, knowing he would not listen as it would risk losing power he needs to obtain from the marriage.
Due to the neglect and abuse, Naoki held no hope in life or miracles and even considered taking her own life as she saw no reason for her to continue living. Which explains why she does not fear death as she deemed the life she lived as a fate worse than hell. That was until she discovers rap music. At first, she was confused upon the beats of the music; But would come to find comfort in the lyrics to the song as it told life stories about hardship in life. Naoki would later to become more open-minded, which would even help expand her horizons once she encounters a promotion of an anime character with a punk rock style that she was starstrucked by. It was then Naoki began to find salvation to help her keep living, and when she started to get herself involve with rap.
For a while, Naoki would begin to act rebellious, claiming to go to the library to study when in actuality she would secretly go out to research rap music and would join a unit with other underground rappers. After performing a song she rapped in front of a group of people, Naoki received a self-made bracelet from a little girl, who became the petite girl’s first fan. From this experience, Naoki would start to feel like she has finally start to fit in after many years of feeling lost and outcasted, and start to find herself passionate about becoming a rapper herself, with the dream of saving people with her music the same way rap music saved her in her time of need.
However, due to anonymous tip, Riki finds out about Naoki’s activities, forbids her from continuing her activities, and decided to make arrangements to keep her home until she is to be moved to her fiancé’s mansion, even decided to throw out everything involving her activities which also included the bracelet; Finally snapping, Naoki defies her father for the first time and attempted to stand up for herself until her father slaps her before calling her a disappointment, that it was a mistake having a daughter, and leaves her.
Conflicted, Naoki is torn about what to do. Until she is told to run away by a voice. Once the voice told her to leave a few more times, Naoki’s resolution solidified and attempted to run away past midnight; However, she gets caught in the sights of guards hired by her father as he knew Naoki would attempt to run away. She continued to run until she gets trapped in an alley with a dead end with a twisted ankle and was even forced to hide in a dirty dumpster from the guards that arrived after hearing her voice from twisting her ankle. While hiding, Naoki prayed for them not to find her and was saved what she believed was a dog, which didn’t seem to be the case judging by the guards questioning what it was before they escaped once rain began to pour. After they left, Naoki realizes that she has nowhere else to go as the guards continued searching for her in the places she initially planned of going. Resorting to sleep out in the rain, She was encountered by another politician she knows of that she remembers as her father’s rival in the political world: Sakamaki Tougo.
At first, she was hesitant to trust him in fear he would contact her father; But after offering to keep her far from her father and promising her the freedom she yearned for in exchange for her cooperation to help him by living with his sons, Naoki accepted him upon one condition: to allow her to become the person she wants to be rather than someone she isn’t, to become the rapper she dreamed of becoming. Tougo accepted that condition and even spoiled her by giving her her dream appearance (punk-rock clothes, streaks in her hair, etc). Because of this, Naoki viewed Tougo as her savior, solidify her trust in him, and is heavily indebted to him which would later affect her life with the Sakamaki brothers; However, once she started to live with the Sakamaki’s, Naoki began to find out hidden truths about her life that would later come to surface.
The reason why Tougo, who was actually the Vampire King Karlheinz, decided to take her in was because he was actually using her as the other Eve, in case the resurrection of his first wife, Cordelia, in Komori Yui’s body succeed. And Naoki‘s heart was a male first-blood’s, by the name of Asher; Thus, Tougo’s promises to ensure her safety and to give her her freedom were all empty promises to gain her respect and loyalty for her cooperation into the plan, even taking advantage of her situation into his favor. Naoki was actually born to a Chinese clan of human vampire hunters with the first-blood blood in their veins, due to their foremother ancestor, Jiang Ying-Yue; Ying-Yue was the original host of the first-blood’s heart (whom was also her lover in her former life as a human), who went by the name of Asher, was a originally human before turning into a vampire after she gave birth to a human son that carried Asher’s blood. Due to herself staying hidden for many centuries to hide from Karlheinz under her first-blood lover’s instructions, Ying-Yue was given the nickname “Lilith”, who was known to be the first wife of Adam but leaves him after she refuses to become subservient to him (in a similar sense where Ying-Yue refuses to let herself become experimented as an Eve to Karlheinz’s plan); However, their secret was revealed when one of their clan’s members was kidnapped by a vampire who found out about the truth of their blood. In fear that the clan will be targeted, The ancestor initially thought about giving Asher’s heart to a male host; However, She decided to give the first-blood’s heart to an infant Naoki, who was born by the name of “Jiang Xiu-Lan” and had a weak heart similar to the condition Ying-Yue had when she was human, to save her and send her to Japan to keep her safe from the tragedy. After Naoki was taken to Japan to an orphanage, her clan was massacred by Japanese vampire hunters under orders by a former associate: Kuroi Tsurara. It was even revealed that Riki actually adopted her in secret due the truth being that he had infidelity problems, and only chose to adopt her due to her high intelligence surpassing those of the other children and looking similar like him, making her perfect to him to use.
It is revealed that Asher was the voice heard by Naoki in her time of need, as her guardian to keep her sanity in check. It is revealed that, throughout her entire life, Naoki has been unwittingly and emotionally dependent on the first-blood, especially whenever she felt like she was going to snap. This is why Naoki did not go crazy even after everything she has been through in her life, as the first-blood was the reason she remains grounded as her conscience. They have even met during Naoki’s childhood within her dreams, where Naoki calls him “Papa” as she was never allowed to call Riki; However, as she got older, Naoki began to forget the memories of those dreams, and by extension, Asher; Believing that Asher was an imaginary friend she made up due to her lonely childhood. But even after being put to sleep and chained until the day Naoki breaks her chains when the time came, Asher will remain a father-figure to her and be there in her time of need like he always has.
~
Trivia:
• Naoki knows how to repair and patch holes on walls; This is because, whenever she was alone, she would accidentally punch a wall out of frustration from her stressful life; Fearing of being punished, Naoki would hide the damage before fixing the wall herself before her father would come home to notice the damage. She has even punched a hole in walls at school in private before fleeing the scene to resume her day before she could get caught. She viewed this as a parallel of attempting to fix the broken pieces in her heart. She even admits that, had it also not been for rap music to calm her down, Naoki would began to resort to violence and destruction. This is one of the biggest reasons why Naoki empathized with Subaru and doesn’t stop him whenever he causes damages, even helps fix and patch the walls no matter how many times he breaks them.
This is also how Naoki gets Reiji off her back about her choice of style as she is the only one (besides Yui) that even does anything to help clean up the messes made by his brother. Of course, when asked about it, Naoki refers to cleaning everything as part of her repayment to Tougo.
• Despite her disinterest in studying, Naoki still continues to try hard in order to graduate; Even willing to take notes on subjects she already knows to give to Subaru to help him improve. It is because of this that their teachers, that once given up on Subaru, relying on her to ensure his grades improves. While she does try to help him, the progress is slow and has only gotten him to just barely passing.
• While Naoki considers Subaru as her first love, Asher confesses that Naoki did love Karlheinz, as Togo Sakamaki, for saving her life, but hidden it as she considered it a childish crush; However, this could just be something Asher made up in order to provoke Cordelia once they meet in their respective hosts’ body.
• During the time between the Haunted Dark Bridal Saga and the More Blood Saga of their friendship, it has been decided by Naoki that she will pick out Subaru’s clothes for him; As they wear a very similar style.
• Naoki’s real name is Xiu-Lan Jiang (Jiang Xiu-Lan; 江 秀兰), which respectively mean “Beautiful Orchid” and “River”; Which is ironic considering her immense fear of the sea and her favorite color being lavender.
• Asher reveals a dangerous aspect of killing him from within Naoki’s body even if Naoki lives: If He dies, Naoki will experience imbalance from within psychologically, causing a severe loss of identity/an unstable sense of self. Due to Asher being the reason why Naoki has not gone mentally insane from depression, stress, compulsiveness, and anxiety caused by the abusive environment from her childhood, his existence within her is essential to keep her at bay as she has been unwittingly dependent of him emotionally. This becomes heavily apparent in Naoki’s brutal ending in the Haunted Dark Bridal Saga.
• By the Dark Fate saga, Naoki is revealed to be a human with slightly enhanced skills; This is due to Ying-Yue Jiang, her foremother and Asher’s lover, becoming the first carrier of the first-blood’s heart; Before she turned into a vampire, She had sexual intercourse with another human in an arranged marriage to produce an heir, which lead to conceiving a human child that would later start a new family line of human with first-blood ancestry from Ying-Yue carrying Asher’s heart before the child was conceived; Thus, Naoki is a human with first-blood ancestry. But due to never training like the past clan members, Naoki is considerably weak and is only strong when Asher lends her his strength.
Asher reveals that because the child was born from two humans, despite his blood running through its veins, they can not possess magic, transform, or summon familiars like a first-blood; Instead, because of his blood, The child was stronger, quicker, and healed faster than an average human, along with inheriting the ability to sense vampires and invisible familiars. This is why the clan turned into one with phenomenal vampire hunters as, while they can’t see them, they can sense their presence, using those abilities to their advantages. Which is something that she can do, but not as well at due to lack of training.
Asher also reveals that due to her being a descendant that was born with his blood, once she becomes a vampire, She can, not only use his strength, but also use Asher’s heart and his blood as his hostess to assist her into unlocking her own potential and can awaken all of the basic/passive abilities for a First Blood by a century at the latest; However, due to only being born as a human with first-blood ancestry, Asher himself admits while the process is not that imminent and might take more than a thousands of years, but it should not be impossible to do if she was a vampire, turned or not, and focused hard on training.
• Naoki reveals to wear a padded bra, which is why her flat-chest looks bigger in her clothes, despite the fact that she is perfectly comfortable with her flat chest.
* The reason for this is because her adoptive father ordered her to wear only padded bras so that she may be viewed as “presentable” in public, finding her to be flat-chested for her age as an embarrassment; Which is why Naoki is very proud of her flat-chest, even preferring being called a “Waffle” by Ayato.
• Naoki’s habit of saying “あれれ”/"Ah-re-re" comes from the Murder Mystery anime series, Detective Conan. Which is a cute, child-like way of saying "Huh?"
• In the Haunted Dark Bridal Saga, Naoki shown to have Genophobia (fear of sexual relations or sexual intercourse), as she actually struggles and panic when Subaru started to touch her in a sexual manner in order to break her as a last resort to break her in the Manic arc. Naoki started to overcome that fear as she began to fall in love with Subaru.
• In the Haunted Dark Bridal Saga, Naoki’s greatest treasure is a bracelet gifted to her by her first fan which she often wears in her AOKI wardrobe; However, it was destroyed by Subaru. By the More Blood Saga, the bracelet is repaired, and by the end of the MB Saga, the bracelet is worn by Naoki for her AOKI activities, alongside another bracelet given to her by Subaru.
