Day 0 - 0/100 hours | Sun 30.07.2023
Hey everyone! I'm going to be doing a 100-hour challenge of German language learning starting from scratch at an A0 level. These are the resources and the study plan I intend to use, it might be adjusted over time to meet my goals.
💡 Resources
Goethe institut A1 online content
Nico’s Weg A1 online content
Quizlet and Anki decks
Chatgpt for quizzes
Duolingo
Netflix language learning chrome extension
YouTube and Spotify
💡 Study Plan
Inspired by Zoe.languages video
Tumblr media
💡 Revision
Keep a Duolingo streak to keep in the loop
Spaced repetition with Anki Flashcards
Daily 10 min review through chatgpt designed quizzes about grammar, vocabulary and skill practice.
Talk with a penpal at least once a week about an specific topic.
I think this challenge will be a good way to document progress, stay accountable, and share resources. If you're interested, you're welcome to join me.

i’m still just testing the waters with italian but it’s been so fun to start over with a new language, every word is new to me and it’s exciting but at the same time very challenging. anyways, i have been writing down around 100-150 words and useful phrases, i haven’t done anything grammar related yet (obviously) but i’ve completed a few lessons on busuu as well as followed some youtube tutorials and children’s shows.
it feels pretty nice to learn from the beginning and italian and the romantic languages are very interesting to me and even though i’m just on my second day of learning it, it’s actually been eye opening to find connections between italian and other languages.
i’ve never used children’s content to learn a language before. it’s almost bordering to brainrot but i actually think it’s helpful for repeating simple glossary. i hope i don’t have to watch too much of it though, i doubt it’s healthy for you.
i’m trying to gather as many sources as possible for italian, i have found some channels that i like but i’m still trying to find a good online translation site. i love to use wiktionary for german but it’s terrible for italian, so far.
i would also like to watch some italian movies, not necessarily for listening practice but rather to just get a feel for the language and maybe learn something about the culture, history or geography.

I got here with Duolingo in two days. 🤣 I know all consonants, vowels, and their complicated versions, too; now to be able to actually read Korean! 🙏 I'm very slow, but I'm getting the sounds right so far! I'm gonna tackle this and fast. I absolutely adore this language! It's so wonderful. 🖤

Currently working on memorizing the a, ka, and sa row of Hirigana
あ え い お う
か け き こ く
さ せ し そ す
Writing out very simple words is proving to be useful in remembering them
The ones I'm struggling to remember the most is け and then き vs さ

Everyone: Please please please don't write your books in Google Docs. Frankly don't use Google Drive for personal stuff.
Their terms of service say they take down stuff like content related to terrorism and trafficking, but this Google Sheet was literally a list of movies I'd watched this year and books I'd read.

AuDHD is so funny sometimes like what do you mean my hyperfixations/special interests will last for years on end or possibly forever but they will cycle out every month or two with absolutely no transitional period or warning. like i will think about the same topic every day obsessively for 46 days in a row and on the 47th day with no visible cause adhd brain goes "ok! bored of that now" and autism brain goes "dw i got something queued up for ya" and i blast into full blown obsession on some other topic whose mental file folders haven't opened in 9 months. brain's out here treating hyperfixations like a crop rotation. once the dopamine runs out it cycles in another one but once something's in the rotation it never ever leaves. last summer we brought in one from when i was 11. it's so funny to me but frustrating too bc like. i cannot stress enough my inability to predict or control this. or how completely abrupt and random it can be
EDIT: seems this is more common among ND people than i thought, and probably not limited to AuDHD specifically :] i was just describing my own experiences and i'm not an authority, but i'm glad i'm not alone in this<3

Day 2 - 4/100 hours | 01/08/23
⭐️ Kapitel 1.3-2.1 Goethe Institut A1 online content -> grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and writing exercises.
⭐️ 50 Goethe Institut A1 flashcards
⭐️ Small conversation with a native speaker through Hellotalk
So, turns out that the Goethe Institut course includes predetermined flashcards. It was very useful and it saved me a lot of time. However I think I need to have an Anki deck eventually cause I need to get reminders for spaced repetition. Everything is going well so far, I’m in the first couple of lessons but I haven’t found it to be that difficult yet. But I’m aware that eventually more challenges are yet to come. Bis Morgen!

the language nerd in me is fucking screaming and crying about the fact that Cassandra Pentaghast has what i believe may be the most accurate impression of the extinct gothic germanic accent we have, and the fact that they didn't even try to give anyone else from Nevarra the same accent is fucking criminal
yes i know it is an entirely made up accent that miranda developed herself, she unintentionally hit the nail on the fucking head with the accent of a dead language that would even be lore accurate with the placement of Nevarra relative to orlais and the other neighboring countries
also im sorry using Gothic as the language inspiration for nevarran??? is that not like too fucking perfect??
like yeh i get it accent training people for a fake accent is ridiculously hard
i do not care
give me gothic nevarrans in the truest sense of the word
i might post the notes find the notes here i have on the actual linguistic comparisons if anyone cares because i studied her pronunciation to compare to historical texts when i made the connection
