Being on the east coast of Florida, we're getting beat down by Irma over here. We're expecting it to really hit us around 8 tonight, which is 2 hours away.

An update at 6:13p, Sept 10: Our house is all boarded up, shutters on bedroom windows, no current damage to our house or car, more windy than rainy but the rain has been picking up more and more all day. We still have electricity, wifi, plenty of food, good phone signals. But. Like I said. We're not expecting much until around 8 tonight- that's when things might get Real. We keep getting hourly tornado warnings for our county and the ones around us.

I am trying to remember the first conversation we had, but I cannot. I think there were too many people talking at one time, conversations blurred and blended together and I’m not sure if I got many words in, but I remember the one thought that kept running rampant through my mind. I want to know you. I am not a very courageous person, at least not when it comes to trusting others. I’m not sure if I’ve told you this before, but I’ve lost so many people in the past. I am so scared of this list I have in my head, so scared of loving again. You were amazing at breaking down my walls, in a rather gentle way. At the time, I was so sure that Alice - you remember her right? - was going to be my best friend until the day I died. We both know how that went though, don’t we? I don’t think I will ever be able to say thank you enough for being there with me when I felt like my heart was being ripped from my chest. I do remember the first time I visited. My grandma drove me up and wouldn’t leave my side until she was certain I was safe and it took us three whole days to get used to one another. It was like we were two dancers trying to match each other at different tempos. When we were finally in sync I had to leave for home and it was as bittersweet as every time that followed. The more I visited the more I became comfortable with the idea of trusting, I would say you were a bit of a stepping stone for me. I remember with vivid detail the first night we got drunk, we decided to go to bed and we squeezed onto that tiny little air mattress together. I couldn’t breathe. It wasn’t you, it was never you. The last person I had curled my heart around walked away without a glance back and while in those moments I wanted nothing more than to hug you and weep with joy I couldn’t move. I don’t remember you getting into your bed at some point in the night, I had dozed off in my dazed stupor while my brain battled with the idea that maybe, just maybe, everyone wasn’t out to break my heart. You are comfortable. With you, I slowly but surely discovered who I am, and I don’t think I would be here today if it were not for you, I can say that with a sure heart. I think you are my person, like how they talk about in TV shows. I can be real with you, I learned that there is good in this world, that I’m not alone. All I ever wanted was not to be alone. You are strong. I know this is a bit late, but I wanted to say thank you, because without you I wouldn’t be who I am today, your strength in the hardest of times inspires me to keep on even when all seems to be crumbling around me. So, thank you for being such an amazing friend. I love you.

Attempting a straight-through roadtrip to Texas with one of my closest friends. 3 hours into a 20 hour drive and I feel amazing. The further away I get the more my stress seems to melt away. I wish with all my heart you both could have come though @lapyslazuly @deangirl67
