A lot of people will write Dabi as a complete asshole and fics with Non-Con. Do you think if he was dating someone or had his eye on someone he would just abuse the relationship for sex or use his partner. Sometimes I will read through dub-con and I’ll feel like absolute shit afterwards. This will be long and rambly and it’s my stream of consciousness trying to sort through my thoughts about netflix’s the Witcher series. 

This will be long and rambly and it’s my stream of consciousness trying to sort through my thoughts about netflix’s the Witcher series.

So like the witcher saga is a big part of my teens, it was actually coming when i was a kid and a student. So yeah, nostalgia is hard with this one. Even more hard that the saga was one of the first books with any queer rep i’d read. This will be a bit of a disclaimer, don’t get me wrong i don’t think the saga is perfect or the rep in the saga is great, but it was a long time ago, so any rep felt super cool. The rep is only w|w and for the very simple reason that the author is a cishet asshole, who probably thought the w|w romances will spice things up. The stories are very pulpy sex and violence and the works, dark grim etc etc. i loved them as a kid and i still like them even though they are very le problematique™. They also do some stuff in a way that is very up my street, there’s a lot of political intrigue, two out of three main characters are women, women have a lot of agency in the story, even though the portrayal of women is a landmine in terms of true feminism and “strong female characters super empowered women feminism” that is actually not written from a point of an ally but just very male gazy. I won’t go into detail because i haven’t reread the books in a few years and i don’t want to critique them. Also by the saga i mean the novels not the short stories (i’ll explain why not the shorstories below), and only the first 4 novels, the 5th novel does not exist, i refuse to accept it, parts of it may exists, but a lot of it is just pure flaming trash, but well yeah, he was the most popular writer of that time, and an arrogant bastard to boot so no editor could reign that dumpster fire in. basically the third witcher games wrote a better ending to the saga than sapkowski, yes im ready to die on this hill.

Anyway, the series, so like in the end i have mixed feelings about it. I know it’s not meant to be a faithful adaptation, but the choices they in terms where it diverges made i’m not sure are the right ones.

What i liked is the casting, well most of it, there are some small exceptions that are just a bit puzzling, but not jarring or anything. 

Cavill is great as Geralt. Geralt is a typical gary stu, a male power fantasy boring asshole. Geralt can be funny in the books or the games, but he’s mostly boring, really really tediously boring. He’s this sexy super fighter, who’s also smart and educated and all the hot ladies want to f//k him and well are granted that privilege.. Basically thank goodness there are two other main charas (Yen and Ciri) and many pov characters, because f//king hell it’d be unbearable with just geralt’s pov. It’s hard to stand in the games tbh. And that’s why i don’t like the short stories that much because they are all from geralt’s pov and it’s tedium after a while, though they are short and in the “monster of the week” style so it’s more bearable than in the novels. And Cavill who’s a pretty mediocre actor really does geralt justice, because cavill is not great with expressions or emoting with body language and it just works, there’s even an in story explanation why geralt would be like this, witchers are not meant to emote. The fact that Cavill actually adopted geralt’s mannerism from the games made me smile, that’s a cute little tidbit.

Anya Chalotra makes for an amazing Yen, honestly i’m not a fan of Yen’s beauty type in the books and games, Anya Chalotra is just so stunning that she sold me on it. I loved her scenes, especially when she showed strength of character, she has such poise. I really liked them expanding on Yen’s back story and showing her at school.

Freya Allan looks very much how Ciri should look, and she’s very good in all her scenes. I’m just not sure why they chose to make Ciri older than she is in the books. It’s one of the puzzling choices. Ciri is a much younger girl during the sacking of Cintra and it makes for a much creepier story. All the subsequent events happen when she’s just a teen. It’s all the more puzzling that netflix tried to make the witcher to catch some of the people who liked game of thrones, so i don’t get this choice of making the series less problematic and creepy. Anna Shaffer is gorgeous as Triss, I’ve always like Triss’ beauty type more than Yen’s. She also catches Triss’ softness really well. So far they don’t seem to be going for the love triangle that was a bit present in the books but more one sided, and that is very heavily pushed by the games. Triss from the games is a bit different than the one from the books, but she’s actually a more interesting character in the games, more likable. She’s very likable in the series and i’m happy about it. 

As i said the casting is really good. The two other puzzling choices were Foltest and Borch, the actors were about 15 years too old? Foltest is a dashing youngish prick of a king. Borch is not an attractive man but he’s also not very old looking.

_ I also love all moments with Calanthe and Eist, they were both fantastic, both the actors and the way they were written.

These two things that were added to the story (yen’s backstory and more calanthe and eist) are really great. It’s good stuff. And my problem with the series is not with the choice to add some stuff, but with certain things that were changed.

Let’s start with Cahir or how netflix broke the heart of the bi teen inside me. I can’t even say that the casting is wrong for cahir because the actor is too old and his face is too cold and has this zealot quality to it since this is a perfect casting for the character that the screen writers wrote. It’s just… it has nothing to do with cahir, please give this guy a different name, he’s not an awful character he’s just not cahir. The bi teen inside me is f//king begging you netflix XD cahir (plus regis and jaskier/dandelion) is what makes the geralt parts of book three tolerable, because holy f//k geralt is at his peak gary stu in that one. Cahir has a really great arc. We’re also introduced to nilfgaard in a big part through him. Before book 3 we have very little info about nilfgaard from a pov that is not people victimised by the wars with niflgaard. Cahir among others changes that. It’s really good piece of writing, because from a looming evil empire nilfgaard turns to something far more interesting and complex in book 3 and it’s very clearly the writer’s choice.  

Cahir actually ties into my bigger problem with nilfgaard. The religious angle that they are going with in nilfgaard, i don’t like that. Nilfgaard is just far more interesting than that. Racists online were wailing about fringilla being black, and that’s like ugh f//k racists, Mimi Ndiwen is beautiful and really tries hard with the garbage she’s given. my question is why was Fringilla made into such a caricature?! Why?! I don’t particularly like fringilla as a character in the books, but she’s fine, in the series she’s so over the top.

And Fringilla in turn ties into the thing about the magic… i mean it’s very wtf what they are doing with the magic system. I mean i guess they are powering the mages down to keep the special effects budget down but the practical magic in the witcher is more dnd/forgotten realms type of thing. And in the series it’s very uneven. The abilities of the mages feel kind of random. What are they even doing with Vilgefortz, this one is as bad as Fringilla. The actor is chosen so so well, he nails Vilgefortz’s dashing prick charm, but his powers, his role? What’s going on with that?

i don’t like these changes and i’m also puzzled by them. If they wanted a dark gritty fantasy that could try to get a large chunk of the people who liked game of thrones why on earth did they decide to completely neuter the political intrigue aspect of the witcher. I get that so far we see more of the pov of the mages, but honestly the scenes in cintra showing calanthe are so much better on the political intrigue front than what the mages do in the series. The plotting of the mages feels to amateurish. The northern kings do not seem to be plotting at all, neither do the nilfgaardians. The intrigue part of the witcher saga is actually pretty solid, it’s not super realistic, but work within the world. i think it doesn’t even fall apart too much in the 5th book where the main characters’ stories just go to straight hell.. I mean what 5th book, that doesn’t exist, sorry. I’m just so disappointed by this.

Three smaller complaints to wrap this all up. The mystical aspect is not done well. The world of the witcher is filled with destiny bs. With prophecies, prophetic dreams and omens, people prophecise stuff when they’re in delirium or dying etc. no one put any effort to make it work stylistically with rest of the series. I think the benchmark here is how the American Gods do it, that series really nails this aspect of its story.

Where were eist’s and mousesack’s accents? Crach has an accent and they don’t? Seriously.

  And last a petty thing, but also hella puzzling. Why is Jaskier’s pseudonym Jaskier not Dandelion (‘’jaskier’ translates to ‘dandelion’)? Why keep this one word in Polish?! Why?! They translated Mousesack’s weirdo name into English, why on earth did they leave Jaskier. Tangent: kudos to Cavill for pronouncing it very correctly each time, dude idk why they made you do it but you did it perfectly well A+.

The stream of consciousness ends here, i just needed it all out of my head. I’m sure i’m forgetting stuff rn. But yeah my first impression or something. I don’t hate the series btw and will watch the future seasons. But some choices are just wtf.

Naturally it’s a slightly lighter dirty blonde color, but I like to add in highlights. Right now it’s got a bit of rose gold in it because summer™. And it’s long! I’ve always hated my hair shorter than my shoulders on me, I’m not sure why.

Nope, though I should invest in those you can get to reduce eye strain when looking at computers considering how much time I spend on one daily and for jobs, etc.

I had Invisalign in Junior year of high school, and then braces briefly on my bottom teeth (I was born without my two bottom adult teeth, td;lr had to have braces to make room for implants). However, my dumb orthodontists never gave me retainers, so they all shifted back pretty much. If I ever get married, I’m fixing them again before then. Student loans be damned :P

Kind of cute/casual. When I’m at home it’s literally any t-shirt and running short combo I can find, but when I’m out and about I’ll usually find a cute shirt and match it with jean shorts. My style is much cuter in the winter, but Florida has winter for maybe a week, so...

Would you believe I’ve lived in the same city my entire life? But I’m from Florida :)

10. What school do you go to?

Idk if you could guess from my previous answer, but I *shockingly* go to the University of Florida. Go Gators!

11. What kind of student are you?

I am your stereotypical straight A student. I was my middle school valedictorian and, if it weren’t for these two guys in my class taking online classes that were way easier as opposed to taking AP Calculus like I did, I would’ve been valedictorian in high school as well. I think I have a 3.89 GPA in college right now? But yeah, I take school pretty seriously. 

12. Do you like school?

My previous answer may make you think yes, but actually, I think it’s kind of overrated. You pay a ton of money in order to let a bunch of tests define your future. It’s silly. I will say, though, that some of the classes you can take in college are super interesting and worthwhile. I took this one class that philosophized about death and life’s meaning and it freakin blew my mind.

13. What are your favorite school subjects?

I’ve always been killer with anything English related, mostly because I like to read and write. History is also my forte, especially British, though American History gave me the best grades. 

14. Favorite TV shows

Well, you might have guessed I am a sucker for Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. Besides that, I like Law & Order SVU, The Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor In Paradise (my trash TV shows, I love them), Spongebob (the OG episodes), Ridiculousness, Call The Midwife, Catifsh: The TV Show, Crikey! It’s The Irwins, Doctor Who (I haven’t watched the previous two Doctors, though), Say Yes To The Dress, Rick and Morty, and Boy Meets World. I’ve probably forgotten some, too.

15. Favorite movies?

Right, so, Tangled is tied with The Lion King for my favorite movie. Lion King was my shit as a kid. I broke the VHS tape because I watched it so much. I told my yearbook in first grade that I wanted to be a lion when I grew up. I love it. I also am a fan of Les Mis, all of the Harry Potter movies, and the Fantastic Beasts movies. Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander owns my whole heart.

16. Favorite books?

The Harry Potter series. I know it seems cliche, but I love them so much.

17. Favorite pastime

Writing, playing with my dogs, swimming, playing the Sims. You know the 100 baby challenge for the SIms? Yeah, I’m on baby #65.

How much money I let my parents spend on Webkinz, being so afraid to open up and be myself in middle school. Uh, the white dress I wore to prom in Junior year.

I think it would be great to do PR for a bigger-named company. Or social media, even. Whatever would pay more lol.

20. Would you like to get married someday?

I would! Though, the big issue is trying to find a guy first lol. I’ve struggled a lot with that. But, I would love to get married. I currently intern with a wedding planner, and every wedding I go to makes me more excited for mine one day.

Yes, but not a ton. Maybe one or two.

I love shopping! When I have the money for it, of course lol

23. What countries have you visited?

Oh gosh, let me remember my cruises. Mexico, Roatan, Grand Cayman, Belize, Jamaica...I think that’s all of them.

24. What’s the scariest nightmare you’ve ever had?

Oh lord. Well, I had a dream back when I was young that the Easter Bunny from the Mall and a duck dressed the same way came at me with chainsaws. I also had a dream that I was stuck in the middle of a shooting with someone chasing after me. Yeah, not fun.

I don’t have any enemies per say. My ex and I broke off alright (though he was a jerk by doing it over the phone), but he always glares at my friends when they pass by him on campus so idk. Who knows lol

Wait, what do you mean it’s only ONE MAN????” into Frank strutting into a hospital with a shotgun to go after Grotto for the Drama of it all?  @qqueenofhades has also just started S2 and the judgment of that scene is so real (although, yes, I agree, Iconic™ ), although it says a lot about Karen that after such a trashy introduction, she jumps on the “There must be more to this story/how dare anyone insult my trash man” train soooooo quickly.

Chi non muore, si rivede e dato che noi del Grafico siamo peggio delle più degenerate erbe infestanti; “i giardinieri li temono, scopri come cliccando su questo link” - in poche parole viene riassunta l’intera esperienza.

Ebbene sì, dopo il toccante addio del post di Maggio e il successivo [e si parla di solo qualche giorno dopo] speciale per la fine della scuola, siamo nuovamente tornati poiché, come dice il detto, il trash non si ferma mai nemmeno durante le vacanze.

Con trash non si ferma mai, sarebbe però opportuno specificare che Leshi non si ferma mai: tutti quegli allenamenti e il nuovo impianto di ricaricamento a pannelli solari gli permettono di correre a velocità superluminale. Infatti, nemmeno a dirlo, è proprio lui il protagonista di questo ennesimo post, aggiudicandosi a pieni voti il titolo di Meredith in Grey’s Anathomy, che riesce a farsi pagare e ad essere onnipresente in ogni puntata anche se sta letteralmente distesa su un tavolo con gli occhi chiusi per l’intera stagione.

Andiamo però per stadi e citiamo prima i fatti avvenuti ancora durante il corso delle lezioni, dove finalmente si pensava fosse riuscito a fare la scelta della bachelorette definitiva. Si parla di Giulia Dimartino, la quale non si riesce ancora a capire come faccia a non essersi stufata della situazione. Si sono intravisti i primi segni di cedimento quando, una volta saltato il premeditato viaggio a Gallipoli fra Benedetta, Giulia, Giada e Leshi, quest’ultimo abbia voluto comunque mantenere ancora valido il piano, invitando anche Giulia a rimanere in sua compagnia. L’amica ha allora semi-accettato, con l’unica condizione che ci sarebbero state anche altre persone.

Evidentemente ha finalmente compreso la pericolosità di tale soggetto e preferisce essere accompagnata da testimoni, anche se in realtà qualche giorno dopo riesce a smentirsi e ad accettare un invito a cena sola con lui, per festeggiare il conseguimento del suo esame di guida. I due si sono quindi incontrati e hanno passato una serata che non si sa se sperare sia andata bene o se optare per l’opzione forse più concreta della velatura di cringe che ha accompagnato la loro caprese. Quantomeno culo di mozzarella di bufala è stato un gentlerobot e ha offerto il pasto.

Nel momento in cui gli avvenimenti appena descritti sono stati discussi, poi, a Leshi deve essere saltata la pulce all’orecchio, in quanto si è “discretamente” [almeno secondo il suo malriposto giudizio] avvicinato alla riunione del Consiglio™ e si è messo a discorre di… nulla di troppo rilevante per essere ricordato. In quel frangente di tempo, però, Anaïs ha trovato la scusa per toccargli i pantaloni, abbassandoglieli per non si sa bene quale motivo. Subito dopo questo scambio d’affetto semi-erotico in mezzo alla boscaglia del Veronese, giusto per aggiungere ambientazione, lui si è arieggiato con il lembo inferiore della maglietta. Sarebbe effettivamente interessante vedere cosa il gentil pubblico scriverebbe sulle vicende della sezione F 2018-2021, precedentemente conosciuta come G 2016-2018. Quali ship sarebbero le più amate. Di sicuro sappiamo le opinioni di qualcuno, anche se avremmo preferito non ricevere questo genere di feedback. Diremmo che, se non si ha nulla di gentile da dire, bisognerebbe tacere, ma non siamo ipocriti a tal punto e riconosciamo che ad aver seguito questo dettame morale, metà dei nostri post non avrebbero raggiunto nemmeno le tre parole, queste includenti il mese, anno e saluto finale.

Parliamo di una conversazione insorta al tavolo interno della cena di classe, in particolare fra Anna e Alessia. Nella tavolata si stava discutendo della ancora resistente corrispondenza, per quanto più unilaterale che altro, fra Leshi e Sara. Anna allora commenta che Leshi aveva avuto una “caduta di stile” ad essersi interessato a lei in passato [anche se in realtà, per aver avuto una caduta di stile significherebbe che l’opzione più “scadente” dovrebbe essere proprio Anna, considerando il fatto che sia venuta dopo Sara], al che Alessia ha replicato che in realtà non aveva mai avuto particolare gusto. Bella per l’amica Federica seduta lì accanto.

In realtà ad aver preso male il commento è stata anche Anna stessa, lanciando un’occhiataccia alla comare, la quale si è corretta ed ha aggiunto un: “Tranne te”. Avevamo davvero bisogno di avere conferma riguardo all’interesse di Leshi per Anna? No, ma è comunque divertente vedere come il Grafico sembrerebbe quasi essere stato di dominio pubblico fin dall’inizio, vedendo come ognuno ne abbia avuto la propria versione. Chissà quale sarà stata la loro ship preferita. Ma che domande, sempre e solo #anesh!

Avremmo poi modo di assistere allo scontro finale fra le ship storiche del Grafico il giorno in cui Leshi riuscirà a scoprire l’indirizzo di casa di Sara e le andrà a far visita assieme ad Anaïs. Sarà lo scontro in grado di decretare il verdetto finale, i biglietti sono in prevendita sul sito.

Finisce con questa promessa di uno spargimento di sangue in nome del trash il post inerente alle vicissitudini amorose degli ormai maturati di F. Il Grafico comunque non ha ancora fine e rimanda i saluti finali [questa volta per davvero] ad un’altra volta.
