Exactly a month ago I decided to propagate my Echiveria Black Prince. She’s now forming roots and baby leaves! This means we have successfully did the process. Leaf propagation usually takes time, You need to airdry the leaf cutting for 3-5 days for it to heal, mist it every 3 days, wait for another week before putting it in the soil, mist again lightly, wait for another week— introduce to the sun slowly. Leave no leaf behind!!! Scooped up this little one from the shelf when I rescued my #peperomiaobtusifolia from Morrisons. Everything I read online said he probably wouldn’t root, and full disclosure: I even threw him in the bin a couple weeks ago! But then I came to my senses and fished him back out because giving up on frens isn’t cool. Saucer full of pups I have created a little area on my patio that I call my propagation station. I like to use saucers that normally sit under a pot. I fill them with soil and I put leaves all over them. Then i sit them on a table and leave them alone. Every now and then I will squirt them with a squirt bottle. But you do not really have to do that. The leaf will provide water to the pup until it shrivels up and dies. Once the pups begin to grow bigger I put them into a tiny pot. Then I place them into a tiny green house. Once they establish themselves with a nice little root ball I move them into a bigger pot with other little succulents.  When I create my succulent arrangements I use the little succulents from the pot of many.

Tiny green house I just love to propagate succulents. I think its really amazing that you can reproduce a new tiny plant just from a leaf. I mean you can even accidentally break a stem and place it in soil and it will grow roots. Just like magic another plant forms.  The tiny plants growing from the leaves are called pups and the broken stem i mentioned is considered a stem cutting. I normally let the stem cutting sit for a couple days so that it forms a callous. Once it has callused I place it into soil and it will eventually form roots. Be patient sometimes it takes a while for roots to form. Every time I go to my local hardware store i check out the floor of the nursery and pick up the random succulent leaves that seem to always be on the floor. I always ask whoever is working what they do with them and they always say we sweep them up and throw them away. Then I ask if I can have them. They always give me a weird look and say sure. I mean I cant help but see a leaf and think of the future plant that it can be.

New pots, new sitting arrangement. Bumili kami ni hubby ng clay pots sa Tagaytay on our way back to Manila. From Php15 natawaran nya ng Php12 each thoigh mahal pa din, kinuha na namin kesa wala, kasi yun lang yun nadaanan namin na nagbebenta ng pots. So, inuna ko nang ni-repot ang mga columnars, opuntia at yung isang mamilaria na madaming babies. Hi di ko pa gaano kabisaso mga pangalan nila pero, soon. 😁 Learning takes time naman at hindi rin naman ako nagmamadali. Ive got all the time to learn hehehe. We arrived home at around 1PM (kasi namali ako ng lagay ng destination sa waze, napadpad kami ng NAIA Terminal3!)😂😅 Thanks to my very supportive hubby dahil tinulungan nya ko mag repot. Nabagalan siguro sakin kasi magdidilim na hindi pa ako tapos. My little one (Violet, naturally) gets a new violet every year for her birthday. In between, I save a few leaves when I trim them, and propagate the plants simply by rooting the leaves in potting soil. The first picture shows that our latest clone is a success, with a few baby leaves popping up. The second picture is our previous clone, now thriving quite well!
