hm. actually my opinion on copyright law is. things can be shitty without needing to make them illegal
like yeah!! using art without credit is shitty! tracing someones art and passing it off as your own is shitty! putting a million artists art into The Slop Machine is ultra shitty!!!!
do i think it should be illegal? FUCK NO!!!
copyright law is a method of control! copyright law more often serves corporations than it does creators! im sick of people defending it because "oughhh small artists". this lawsuit against midjourney is scary! WE DO NOT NEED COPYRIGHT LAW TO BE EXPANDED.
WHY ARE YOU CHEERING?? YESSS BITE EACH OTHERS DICKS OFF!! YESSSS WE LOVE WHEN CORPORATIONS FIND AN EASY TARGET TO USE TO EXTEND THEIR LEGAL POWER!!!! DISNEYS COLD DEAD FINGERS STRETCH EVER FURTHER AND YOU ARE CHEERING.
it also drives me mad seeing people say "woah artists should NOT be upset that the ai is stealing their art haha like. are you even Enlightened. did you know Copyright Bad?"
yeah. did you know being a fucking asshole is bad? did you know. i can be upset when someone (ai bro) does something shitty (put my art into The Slop Machine) without thinking they should Face Legal Repercussions?
am i misunderstanding something here??? if that is the case please do let me know
#i admit when i first saw it i was cheering as well#i hate ai#but... guys? hello? copyright law is not a good thing??#this is obfuscation? they are using. yknow. that tactic where someone goes against a common enemy#to extend the legal control afforded to them. plus theyre totally just gonna make their own image generator#rambles#and like actually i dont think artists should just. be okay with people doing whatever the fuck they want because Copyright Bad#be grateful little content machines. pour your soul into everything and be grateful people are looking at it. why would you need credit?#you a fucking capitalist?? ohh you love copyright??#WHY ARE THESE THE ONLY 2 OPTIONS

if i hear one more pro-ai take i fear i may start exploding people with my brain
#for legal reasons im not gonna explode anyone#but i am gonna be extremely pissed off#i think the thing that pisses me off the most about pro ai people is this sense of entitlement i see from a lot of people#like “oh well this person posted their art/writing/creativity online#so therefore the ai (and by extension me) is entitled to be able to use it”#like its not the same at all as looking at another creators work and getting inspired#or when youre learning how to shape your style#its just taking other people’s work and passing it off as your own#like i get it sometimes youre not as good as you want to be or the motivation isnt there and you just want your ideas out there NOW#but you know what you do then?#you. fucking. practice.#if you don’t care enough to put in the effort to actually make your ideas rather than stealing for other creatives?#then i dont care at all about what you “create”#(obviously im not shaming people for being unable to put in effort due to any multitude of reasons—such as disability lack of time etc)#but even then that doesnt mean you have to resort to stealing from other people#because thats what ai is. theft. simple as that.#generative ai just makes me so fucking angry#fuck ai#anti ai#anti ai art#stop ai#fuck ai art#down with ai#fuck ai everything#fuck ai writing#fuck ai all my homies hate ai

Attended a semi-optional short webinar on generative AI at work and was legitimately quivering in rage when they outright recommended using AU to write fanfiction. Because stories with open ends might be distressing for some autistic people apparently. So you can ask an AI to finish the story for you. I wanted to break something
#also that feels like#super insulting to all the autistic people writing fanfiction#or anything in general#ot who just like. have an imagination#but i get that it's called a spectrum for a reason so yeah there probably is some truth to that#still. do not fucking-#THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE MORAL AND LEGAL CONCERNS OF AI-WRITTEN BOOKS BUT /TOLD US/ TO MAKE COPILOT WRITE FANFIC#i Actually Fucking Hate it here#I'm gonna be in the news#venlapost

let me guess. thinking that from platform that doesn't pay its artists and that's a known fact, we deserve a professional analysis of our listening habits, is entitled behaviour?
Nope. It's not really about wrapped itself, and the people I would offend are a much smaller subsection of listeners. Simply put, I think the fact that Spotify has all but been caught just making up shit for our wrapped may have certain... implications (and those implications may piss off said smaller group of listeners, so take that as you will) and is not a good look when one of the biggest artists in the world is currently accusing them of falsifying statistics.
#let me make it very clear: unless something comes out I do think Drake is just being a cry baby and in general fuck that guy#but it is not a good look to have and it would not surprise me if his legal team uses this as leverage to get proof of Not Like Us'#streaming numbers because like if this is being falsified what else is? (again I think the answer is nothing like I genuinely think#what has happened is just them mistreating/firing essential staff to the point they didn't know how to do shit and ran out#time so went 'fuck it' and AI-ed and/or faked everyone else's but it's still not a good look) and that really could open a can of worms#that I don't think can be closed again once opened ngl

I know it'd be putting a bandaid on the titanic at this point but god i wish it was required for ai images to at least be watermarked or something, just. Even that sort of bare minimum regulation/transparency would better than nothing at this point
#kam talks#granted this doesnt do much for audio or written generative ai but like. baby steps n all#doing literally *Anything* to set a precedent would help#.....actually i do wonder now if (at least online) if you can tell anything is ai using metadata or something#im not computer literate enough to know offhand#but hell if gen ai companies could be convinced to use shutterstocks 'buy a license to remove the watermark' strategy they might buy into it#fuck dude at this point take a page out of youtubes shitty book to require all legal issues re: ai images be passed to the user if they pay#if offering monetization n legal loopholes are what it takes to get a foot in the door of ai regulation im willing to take that risk yknow?

hope “cheaper eggs and gas” was worth it.
EDIT: i removed the “trump refused to swear on the bible” point because it was being taken as me being an offended christian. i’m not christian, im agnostic. the reason i included it in the first place is because he’s the first president in history to ever refuse to swear on ANYTHING. meanwhile his “conservative christian” followers had no issue with this, and decided to continue to scramble for excuses instead of admitting he may not be as religious as he claims he is. i figured taking that point out entirely is probably better than filling this with an explanation in the middle of the other important issues.

If anyone has taken their eyes off what's happening to federal workers in the US right now, here's some highlights that we're hearing from our comrades across the government who have not yet been fired:
In one building (hosting multiple agencies), the locks on the bathroom were changed so employees no longer have any access to a bathroom during the workday. People are peeing in trash cans.
Elsewhere, multiple agencies have reported that hand soap is no longer being supplied in the bathrooms.
Toilet paper supplies have not been adjusted to meet the needs of a vastly increased number of in-office employees.
Employee-owned coffee and coffee makers have been stolen or thrown away without notice (it was already illegal for taxpayer dollars to be spent on supplying federal employees with amenities like coffee, so many offices have coffee supplied by pooled employee funds).
Meanwhile, many offices don't even have potable drinking water (recurrent legionella outbreaks), so employees have to bring their own water from home.
Despite an explosion in the number of workers in offices, cleaning budgets have been slashed and many offices are not being cleaned regularly enough to remain sanitary. Pests like roaches and rats are a problem.
The firings continue, legal and illegal. Entire programs are being cut. Managers have no idea when they might lose staff. Employees are getting fired at 6pm on a weekend or finding out when they're unable to log into their computer or when they receive a shipping label in the mail to return their equipment.
Through all of this, the DOGE employees in federal workplaces are enjoying incredible and expensive luxury: AI-powered sleep pods, entire dormitories so they can live in federal buildings, nurseries for their children on site, free food and beverages, laundry services, and who knows what else. They have special security to restrict access to their areas of the buildings, including armed guards.
And I'm not just saying this to lament how bad it is for federal workers. I'm saying this because, as workers are reporting this to one another, the response is, inevitably: "This is illegal." "Yes, but who would I report it to? OPM? They're a DOGE puppet. OSHA? They've cut OSHA. The Inspectors General? Cut. The NLRB? Cut. My union? No longer recognized."
There is no one left to enforce these laws, so taking away access to basic sanitation is now effectively legal. They are doing this to federal workers, who historically have been some of the best-protected workers in the country. They are doing this specifically because it demonstrates to the public sector that it is now legal to do these things to their own workers.

I think it's also worth noting that generative AI isn't just "inspired" by content, it uses that content explicitly in the process. You could almost consider it like a very complicated photoshop job on tens of thousands of images, or like using an audio sample when making music. Generative AI isn't a conscious force that that can be inspired by things, it's a tool that is using every single piece of information that is fed into it every single time it's being used. If you generate an image of an apple in an AI generator, sure it has to reference every image that is tagged as an apple, but it also has to take into account every single image in its database that is not an apple, meaning every prompt actively uses every piece of data in some way.

so a huge list of artists that was used to train midjourney’s model got leaked and i’m on it
literally there is no reason to support AI generators, they can’t ethically exist. my art has been used to train every single major one without consent lmfao 🤪
link to the archive
#unfortunately the discussion about the moral standpoint of offloading labor to machines is not helpful in this legal case#because you get into tricky ground of being able to argue that any tool that assists artists is just as bad as AI#the problem isn't AI as a tool#it's the fact that AI will be abused#and the only real way to fight that is to point out the fact that it uses data it shouldnt have access to#AI can't work without an ungodly amount of data#generative AI fundamentally needs to steal work to function#that's our best shot at stopping it right now

This a big win for everyone as cases like these establish a precedent, with said precedent it's harder for AI companies to win in future cases especially with arguments used in this case. AI isn't the future and we should take comfort in that.
