I am so scared atm. I just want to be a healthy human being. Why do I always always end up at doctors who can't tell me what's wrong with me (and my body).

I still find it funny that one of the questions of The Last Stand exam was translating "Pedo Mellon a Minno" to "Speak friend and enter", something virtually impossible to do without outside knowledge of Lord of the Rings. Brennan was like, "I am entirely confident one of my nerd ass friends (Siobhan) will have this locked and loaded." And he was right.

Using a Kids On Bikes-type system for side-quests already makes for such a fun energy. Obviously it isn't suited for EVERY setting, but I do hope the bones of it continue to be implemented into future mini-seasons

i just realized humans get a +1 to every stat meaning that ally got four ones for one of their rolls. according to the dice probability calculator i used, that’s a .0772% chance of happening. that is one in 1296 odds. how is that allowed.

It’s truly tragic that a lot of the best ttrpg systems use d6s. I know it’s in an attempt to be more accessible but have they considered that I like to roll the fancy dice

First Heartbreak
It wasn't like Lili to be this quiet. Not like her to be this unenthused about things. If she wasn't interested in something, she'd be gone. Off into the woods.
Clem took notice. He'd always want to be the one to help cheer people up with his excitement.
When time came for the scavenger hunt, and Crystal had already picked her partner, Clem had reached his hand out to Lili.
While Clem actually tried to complete the scavenger hunt, Lili stayed quiet. She was following him similar to a lost puppy, or some cat that he had given food to.
"So... what's up?"
"Huh?"
"You just seem sad."
"I'm not! I'm fine!"
Clem looked from where he was grabbing some gold coin off of a rock. "You don't sound that way."
"Look I don't want to talk about it any more than I have to. I've already got Phoebe on my butt about 'just talk about it...' and Kitty and Franke saying that-" Lili shook her head. "Let's just get this stupid scavenger hunt over with.
From the docks, the two headed up the wooden path towards the lodge. Lili stormed forwards, heading over to the target practice hay, and burned it. As she snuck behind the other hay, Clem looked at the roof of the lodge. He and Crystal had tried to end their lives up there on that roof. Just last summer.
Now, he had lived a whole other year. He was 11. Same with Lili. Crystal was 10 now.
There was a little thing still on Clem's mind. "Surprised you're not with Raz right now."
Lili now had the Voodoo doll in her hand, and started to squeeze it so hard her knuckles were turning white. "Raz has his own stuff because he's so special." She explained through gritted teeth.
"Like saving the world? Did he leave camp early?"
"You wouldn't understand. You and Crystal... you... you've never had a romantic relationship before, have you?"
"No."
Lili sighed. "I... I really wanted to... to be with him, but..." Lili couldn't seem to find the words. "I don't want to talk about this." She wiped her eye upwards, careful not to smudge her makeup.
"Well, when you do want to, I can listen. It may not be the same but... Crystal has a lot more support with the other girls than I do with the guys. And... I can tell from your Campster you don't really-"
"Oh my God, you use that?" Lili laughed.
"What!? It's a valid tool! The counselors give us them for a reason!"
Lili ended her laughter with a cleansing breath. "I... I don't know. I never really liked reaching out to anyone unless they were excuses to get away from Elton. Or if they were Dogen or Chloe. But... Dogen and Chloe have... kind of moved on from me. It's like... I'm always..." She shook her head again. "Let's stop talking now."
"Okay. Maybe there's some stuff on the lodge roof."
"Can you even get up there?"
"Sure! Lemme show you!"

I'm like genuinely interested as someone who thinks a lot about the craft of critique and fandoms the ways in which the current Rat Grinders discourse shows why you can't really apply the same lens you use to critique a pre written story vs an improvised actual play show by a bunch of comedians who are first and foremost concerned with committing to the bit. Like Porter's a great example of this, he went from a nothingburher to secretly evil with a whole lore and backstory!
In the same vein the Rat Grinders probably could have turned out to be not as culpable in all of this had the Bad Kids really tried to bond with them, but instead they focused on other things with the way downtime was structured! And because they did that they could pass the Last Stand, and are safe from Porter's rage thing! Like legitimately I really liked the mechanics of downtime this season, it just also came at the cost of developing the Rat Grinders!
(Though to be entirely fair, the BKs did try to engage with Oisin, Ivy, and Ruben and then Oisin launched the house, Ivy was racist, and Ruben still attacked Wanda so)
I think it's really fascinating from a storytelling/game design perspective! The downside is the Discourse is so tiring
Yeah it's interesting. I covered some of this in other asks so I'm gonna hit on the stuff I haven't yet.
If you're telling a story that is based partially on user input, it's not entirely fair to be like, "This subplot was underdeveloped" if the reason for that was that the players didn't make choices to facilitate that development. When DM's push hard for the players to care about things they're not interested in, they get hit with railroading accusations.
And even outside of the player choices, there are also the rolls. A BIG part of D&D is the randomness of the dice. Even if the players care about something, it doesn't mean they'll get it. I'll mention again that Kristen tried to roll Insight on Buddy before the final fight and got a Nat 1. What is she supposed to do? Roll again until she gets a good read on him? That's not how that works. If the dice aren't cooperating, there's not much you can do. And you can make sure your big story beats don't rely on dice but at the end of the day they *will* shape your story in ways you can't control.
Another key thing about the medium, as you pointed out, is things can change on the fly. The confluence of high rolls and serious interest can change things that were behind the screen canon in an instant. In Burrow's End, Aabria planned for Bennet to have a family but as soon as Tula/Brennan expressed interest in romancing him, she Thanos snapped that family out of existence. I don't know how much Brennan wanted the Rat Grinders to be recruitable but even if he'd planned them all to just be foils and evil and nothing else, I can totally see him flipping one if they'd really wanted to and it would have made for a good story beat.
Anyway, yeah! Interesting stuff to think about. Even though D20 often feels like a TV show, it's important to remember that it's a different beast in many ways.

I think any modern au meng yao would really benefit from being a dungeon master. Elaborate plans and setups for encounters to pour over to give his high-speed brain something fun to do for once, he can use his acting skills on truly immaculate roleplay, and as a bonus he gets to kill everyone in his social circle except he doesn't actually do anything wrong and they can't get mad at him for it. It's not his fault you didn't roll better, da-ge.
For all that he speaks very well Jin guangyao is never a monologuing/grand speech villain. He is just so dependent on everyone else's opinion of him he never truly gets to let go, but I think he deserves to monologue over a dead body, actually. And ttrpgs are the perfect place to do it with zero consequences.

time to loot :: open
send “Treasure Chest Opened! You Acquired _____” along with an item my muse would obtain by opening a secret treasure chest.
@darksails sent a trap: Treasure Chest Opened! Malkuth acquires a strangely specific wig with bangs that somehow matches her exact hair color! Wow! ( Beneath that, however, is the real prize: a coupon for any establishment of her liking that a pirate will pay for as a gift. ;'D )
Tumblr media
"A TREASURE CHEST LIKE THE MOVIES?" Like any energetic young lady, throwing it open is hoped to yield countless gold doubloons or other nonsense. Heck. Even if they were chocolate? That'd be a huge victory all its own.
Instead, there's a buncha hair down in there? For a split second Malkuth had half a mind to think there was a corpse! Like if she plucked it out there'd be a skull or something. Not. Fortunately. But one can't help but notice the striking similarity.
Tumblr media
"....Ueh? But why do I need a wig that matches my hair? What's the point here. Huh. Well... guess I can hold onto it." Oh no! It would seem that the Kuranta was not quite keen on the special make of this wonderful piece. What she does notice is the coupon! Which she picks up with renewed glee and excitement.
Tumblr media
"FOOD FROM ANYWHERE I WANT? A FREE MEAL? THATS EVEN BETTER THAN A CRATE OF CHOCOLATES! Oh my gosh. Yay! I know just the pirate who I can redeem it with, too~!!!"

Writing Patterns Tag Game
Tagged by @cinlat ! Thank you! Wow it was fun going back on all these bits of writing hahaha, the RP has definitely been going on all this time but to get to ten actual posted pieces I had to travel quite a long way back. Definitely makes me want to actually set down more of the ideas and musings I let float around in my head. @storyknitter @queen-scribbles @mimabeann @vespertine-legacy @tehriel @swtorpadawan @greencrusader13 if any of you folk feel inclined to play along please do!
Rules: list the first line(s) of your last 10 posted fics and see if there's a pattern!
Void-touched - Five never bothered with mirrors these days.
Five Years - He was as infuriating as he’d ever been.
Prompt: Six Repressed Memories - The night before, they’d stayed up late, conspiring in the fort in whispers that were too loud, overstimulated and giddy for the day to come.
Prompt: Repressed Memory for the Best Girl - The moon was bright and her belly was full, and best of all the pain had stopped, she’d found the source and shut it down and now everything was still and peaceful.
Artificial - Libby had wanted to hike Mount Marvellous for as long as she could remember, and she was beside herself when she finally had the opportunity to book a tour and be guided up the mountainside after years of training and research.
Prompt: Kiss, as a promise - “I don’t want to go.”
Prompt: "You could have died." - The days had been leisurely and indulgent, but with time came room for doubts and misgivings to creep in, giving a sour edge to the otherwise thoroughly pleasant experience of exploring the late Darth Vesstriss’ private estate.
Prompt: Protect - “Fynta. Hey. Hey is that you?”
Epilogue II - His bright blue eyes were the last things she saw before the lake swallowed her.
Prompt: "I'm only here to establish an alibi." - “WHOOOOAAAA–!!” Three voices hollered out in chorus as the out of town competitor, a burly selonian with jagged patterns bleached into her dark fur, was sent skidding across the ring.
