I think Rumi would be a business major 😔😔😔 Like, definitely with a musical minor so it could be music industry-related, plus aNOTHER minor in international relations because she’s an overachieving disaster, but yeah her major is business

Look firstly, it is Practical™️ which she would like, and secondly it would be funny because someone makes one of those “business majors joined the dark side they have no souls” jokes and Rumi has a mcfucking heart attack

I think Mira’s a psychology major (she wants to listen to people and figure out why they’re Like That, plus it vibes with her own issues growing up she wants to try and learn more about dysfunctional households and stuff) with a minor in dance

I was also thinking UCLA! It has the name reputation and probably is generic enough to fit any good college au. In my head I've been calling it the kpdh ucla au so I'll go back and tag everything accordingly.

Rumi would with the soulless business major jokes 😭😭😭 I don't think Mira would be minoring in anything with their main focus being on recruiting Zoey, but Rumi would definitely be stacking like you said!!! They probably already have singing and dancing as a hobby Celine Song encourages, so they wouldn't necessarily need to take classes in music when they've been training with Celine. I totally agree with their majors too, Mira would make a killer psych major and Rumi definitely is like in accounting or finance boohoo

Zoey, on the other hand, is still living with her parent(s) in this au. With her people-pleasing tendencies and probably the financial backing her parents provide (she's not a selling out stadiums as she should😔), she likely chose a field that had some parental approval. Marine biology promises some of that STEM handle despite not being pre-med or math. Because of that, she's definitely minoring in music! I can even see her attempting to make it a double-major despite there being 0 credit overlap. Even if she wanted to be pursuing music, I feel like she's boxed herself in with her parent's expectations.

Since their canon ages are 1-2 years apart I was going to make rumira like juniors and Zoey a sophomore (or sophmore-freshmen depending on the plot!) Korea's school system usually sorts by birth year rather than the American august-cutoff so if Zoey has a late birthday that can make her still 2 years younger while being only a grade below. This is relatively irrelevant but I just thought I'd share!

hm i may be in an echo chamber but, to me, the appeal of bartylily lies in the fact that despite being pretty out-there in terms of canon— when you place them in a modern au (any au!), it becomes so achingly plausible. expected, even!

like, you definitely already know them. if you've ever met a lily evans (capri jeans, too-tight ponytail, her own personal portable daisy-print hole puncher in her purse) then you know EXACTLY the kind of questionable tattooed bassist she swipes for on tinder. if you've ever had a classmate like barty (disarmingly sleazy, surprisingly sharp, daddy paying his way through his ivy league bachelor's degree) then you know that he ALWAYS has some pretty headband-clad valedictorian girlfriend at a prestigious all-women's libarts college.

they're sophie and howl. they're your two coworkers who bicker cause they clearly want to fuck instead. in high school, james made lily blush sweetly on the apples of her cheeks. barty makes lily turn an ugly, splotchy red all the way down to her heaving chest.

as soon as you configure lily as someone beyond the girlfriend-wife-mother constraints of canon, her brimstone&fire suddenly really complements barty's mischief. she's the type to always assume she's clever enough to conquer whatever slightly-reckless plan she's set out for, armed with naivety and a spreadsheet. she's the type that loves fixing up dirtbags-with-unexpected-depth. lily enjoys fighting her way through a challenge! she gets turned on by being annoyed, though she won't admit it. she wants a yelling match. she relishes having her mettle met. any option besides barty— annoying, complicated, rankling, secretly-tender, obnoxiously-smart, secretive, neurotic barty (!!!) — feels much too boring for someone like lily evans. they will always be soulmates to me idk! more than any other ship...

cissie: emt. i think about her coming back for owaw as a paramedic on the team very, very often + how she probably pushes back so hard against using her abilities for violence and chooses so instead focus on med. it also works for ME bc that means she can conveniently be somewhere at the same time as yj. she worked at a diner during her training and it was Not a good time. she had to restrain herself sooo much because some of these people need to be told about themselves. and she will tell them. and she didn’t get fired because she quit okay.

anita: superhero. she tries really hard to try to find something she wants to throw all of herself into. in high school, she tried sports for a while (tennis, badminton, volleyball) bc she Did play a variety of different things before becoming empress in my mind & heart but none of them stick. maad brings up her talent for music so that is what she is currently trying (attending a libarts school for classical piano) but it doesn’t quite click either. she did try to keep up heroing after her parents came back as babies & everything was settled with maad, but after yj disbanded she fell out of it. well, now her friends seem to be going that route again. and she doesn’t feel left out at all wdym… she’s doing fine and coping with everything so well and if she happens to get a sewing machine and certain color fabrics that match her old costume happen to show up in her apartment well… (i also think that her and cassie have a mini adventure that’s a) extremely chaotic b) the teamup that leads to yj coming back & c) undoes whatever fucked shit was up with her parents being babies.)

greta: animal shelter volunteer. while she’s definitely gotten better at emotion regulation, greta still struggles with consistent interaction outside of her friends. she has pretty overwhelming emotions and extreme reactions to things relatively often and not everyone gets it like they do. however, she adores animals and have extremely strong feels about them being mistreated. this leads to her volunteering at rescue shelter.

and for traya… i imagine she’s the babiest person in her grad classes. she has also become a bit of a gym rat, bc she looks up to cissie & kon + i think her being a little buff nerd is beautiful. just like her friends

it's 100% because a lot of them overlap, not because I did six unique programs. 3 of them weren't even on purpose

The on purpose ones were: Modern Languages with a concentration in Spanish, Sociology, and Criminology

That general sphere happens to coincide with Liberal Arts, Integrated Studies, and Pre-Law. Like for the libarts I legit had all but one class requirement filled by taking classes for the others, so I just took that one since I happened to be so close

I did also complete all but the very last class (because they cancelled it my last semester) for the ASL concentration in modern languages. so I'd say I did like...3.5 different programs? spanish, ASL, and soci/criminology, even though I didn't get the ASL degree.

I did take full 15 credit hour summers though, so that was part of it. as was finishing math requirements early. and not participating in clubs/social events. so essentially I just took a shit load of classes for 3 years straight and now i've set a record and they gave me a cord at graduation for it👍
