James would do anything that would make him appear like the hero he always romanticized about being... ergo he's not brave and it's not impressive.

I am sorry, what? We didn't read the same book series, I am sure, because at no point are the people working for the Order doing so openly, and they are not applauded or rewarded by the wizarding world at large. You do not become a hero working for the Order of the Phoenix!!

In fact, the Order was likely held in contempt by many, who secretly or openly agree with Voldemorts ideas, even if they weren't prepared to go as far as him.

The Order wasn't winning, and the odds of survival were pretty awful. I repeat: The good side was losing!! I cannot emphasise this enough. These poor Order members had their backs up against the wall:

While Slughorn is speaking about the current climate, he's been on the run from Voldemort. He's not in a position to base this on the current war (which in any case had just officially started and so far had only one death, RIP SIrius Black). It is based on the last war. And declaring your allegiance to the Order of the Phoenix comes with a high mortality rate. (And I get that he says admirable, but he's not, is he? He's saying it the same way British people say: with all due respect. More than anything he is pre-emptively saying, yes yes, I know Dumbledore and you think they're great, but not for me, thank you).

Do you know who was seeking glory? Snape! Sorry, I don't mean to make this about him, he receives his own unfair share of bashing too, but I need people to understand that it was the people who joined up with Voldemort who were often motivated by glory/wanting to seem impressive.... And it just so happens that JKR spoke about this with regards to Snape:

Well, that is Snape’s tragedy. Given his time over again he would not have become a Death Eater, but like many insecure, vulnerable people (like Wormtail) he craved membership of something big and powerful, something impressive. He wanted Lily and he wanted Mulciber too. He never really understood Lily’s aversion; he was so blinded by his attraction to the dark side he thought she would find him impressive if he became a real Death Eater.

And we've got this as a reminder:

It was the Death Eaters who joined up for a bit of fun - for a bit of power, and glory and all that.

Yes, I believe James romanticised about fighting against evil, and that father-like-son, he probably had a need to play the hero. I do see a lot of Tonks in him (which is why I cannot and will not accept that she's a bad fit for Remus, who adored James). Young, eager to be part of this anti-Voldemort movement, full of life. However, James could not have gone into it seeking glory because there was none to be found down that path.

We know that James Potter despised the dark arts, that he was desperately in love with a muggle-born girl and that like Sirius, he was not content to sit at home and let others do the fighting. This wasn't about seeking glory; it was about doing what was right even when you're fighting what may seem like a losing battle, which is, as I've discussed before, a big topic in the series.

I was afraid I’d lose him. So I got there late. And… as I entered, I saw him about to take pictures by himself. The first thing that I felt was… I wanted to hug him. it genuinely kills me very slowly to think that some people can only ever think of jack as the destiel kid and not like an actual person with a myriad of maladjustments or silly funny personality quirks. like he has a whole special red and white fleece lined Christmas jacket and is canonically acknowledged as looking like a stupid hot white boy without any thoughts behind his eyes. He killed a whole fucking archangel and then decided that he really wanted to try making some friends like a week later. they wanna be normal and nice so bad and pretend to be some normal small town boy next door all the time but they were literally so angry once that it took three gunshots fired in the back to make him calm and reasonable.

he stress eats and stays in their room for weeks on end when they’re depressed or upset. they line their shoes up and fold their shirts and wear bright yellow vans and red hi-tops. he’s narratively paralleled to Anakin but his favorite character is Ahsoka. he pretended to be a coke addict and pretended to be a pretty new boy next door again to flirt with a hopelessly romantic girl. women want him and he’s absolutely clueless about it. women and men and probably fish fear him too. he dresses like a combination between an elderly man and a 70’s sitcom hippie. he was literally called Bieber and Suite Life. they like stripe patterns and Hawaiian pizza and movies and computers.

they’re literally an autistic person who just explodes shit when they get overstimulated. They watch riverdale and constantly sweep their hair back in a specific stylistic choice bc he likes looking like that. he fucking decapitated a whole Gorgon and then stole the guy’s snake as a trophy. he says shut up when he’s mad and calls things stupid and says they suck. he’s a teenage girl. he’s. A Teenage boy. He’s non-binary. He sat on the throne of god in grass stained jeans and clunky grandpa sneakers and left it all behind without even blinking as soon as his shitty bunker home called out to him. He sticks his tongue out when he’s focused on something and his left eye pulls up into a squint when he smiles reallt wide and his smile is crooked and he has sleepy eyelids . They decided to defy death herself just to rescue someone he mildly remembered caring about once and then blackmailed a reaper into helping with said rescue plan.

He got turned into the tiniest ugliest dog ever and got a thermometer shoved up his ass in the same episode where he’s narratively symbolized by the ouroboros symbol and makes the deliberate choice of destroying his soul just to selfishly keep his family bc he legitimately cannot handle thinking about losing them without going insane. his nicknames are sweetheart and darling boy and pal and buddy and Jackie Boy and slugger and he apologized to a girl for upsetting her like two episodes after ripping a man’s heart out and eating it raw. He literally actively wants to be a silly little guy that everyone likes but he’s so insane and unwell at the same time. he’s the best character ever and I need the entire world to understand this and to see him as more than just the destiel baby or I will also explode. .

this isn’t anything crazy just a fun thing to ponder really. So the house compound place in dissenter is the same as the building thats in the mpn flashbacks with Jeb, doc, n Hank (it’s hard to get a good shot of it in the animation but it lines up)

But it’s also the same building that’s used in arena mode for imprints.

That means doc has had this building for a realllly long time since arena mode takes place before nexus city falls, which is like post mc1 but probablyyy pre mc2. The specifics don’t matter but what does matter is that doc already had this building long before hank was involved with him at all and hes the owner of it.

All that to say that when doc says, “Hank dosent even live here anymore”, that means Hank was the one who moved In And the one who moved Out. That’s it. It’s not hanks house that doc kept after Hank went away, its docs house that Hank just moved in and out of. I just think that’s fun. As to why Hank moved in and out ? idk

As satisfying as it would be to have Sonic movie 3 stay faithful to SA2 regarding the death of Maria, I genuinely don't see paramount having the guts to write her being killed by government agents. Even by agents from a fictional military like G.U.N.

If they do touch it on anything more solid than just vaguely implying it happened, you just know the SA2 comparisons will be hyped up as much as possible until the last second, then instead you get to watch a "new but still just as cool!" take on the event where actually, a token scapegoat villian was responsible for her death! All the G.U.N. agents will get to stay part of the goofy comedic relief cast to fullfill the studio's "misguided :( but still likable" military propaganda quota.

Or, have Maria survive and play it as an amazing new "fix" to a plot point that doesn't need fixed. (Recent news about the new ATLA series Sokka comes to mind, where an embarassing effort to play it safe causes them to miss the point of his arc. Entirely.) Maria surviving is a fun concept to play with, but also a nuance-deserving change I would absolutely NOT trust in the hands of paramount.

I'm staying excited, but trying to keep my expectations in check. I honestly hope to be proven wrong.

It's a curse I will gladly bear if it means having fun with all of you heh! I'm not just studying the sciences for nothing after all, gotta get as much out of these scenes as we can (*pushes eps through a lemon squeezer*). If I don't, then who will, after all??

And ahhh, tysm!!!!! <333 :D You've given me so much food for though I had to just dive in and see what I could extract at that moment. Now that I think about it, there are like 20 more things that we can do with those scenes: using them as a metric for all the other times Ash gets weak and/or faints, seeing Greninja's reaction in those split seconds, the progression of the bond as the series goes on, a whole bunch of stuff.

You raise a pretty good question though!! In the anime proper we don't get much about Greninja's reaction (both physical or mental) regarding the bond - I would say the most we get is in Snowbelle when both he and Ash split paths and idk run away. I'm trying my very hardest to not go into the whole ep because GEEZ does it have a lot to unpack lol, but I find it so interesting that while Ash is on the ground pacing around a log, Greninja is sitting up a tree, recalling his two back-to-back losses and clenching his fist (just like Ash was) while looking away in disgust/in pain, as if he couldn't stand the sight of it. And back in the Pokemon Centre while facing his back to him (dreamscape memories, anyone???) Ash apologizes to him, saying that he should've gotten his act together (that's the moment where Grenin opens his eyes and I mean in that active way). After recalling what Ash said to him he then slams his fist on the tree before going on the move (presumably back to Ash or the Pokemon Centre). To me, I feel like Greninja assumes just as much responsibility over the bond as Ash does, wanting to reach that same state of power and exercise complete control over it. He also feels blame towards himself when he loses (especially since I think in both instances Grenin knocked out before Ash could or, as with the Sawyer battle, before they could even activate the change) and tends to immerse himself in his fustrations as a result.

In a way, both Ash and Greninja are mirrors, but they aren't perfect copies of each other. They will inevitably experience different emotions, see different things, react in different ways. We see this all the way at the start in EP 3 'A Battle of Aerial Mobility!' where Ash was focused on catching Fletchling to add to his team (on account of being fast) while Froakie wanted to beat it up for making Bonnie upset, and this is right after the last ep where Froakie chose Ash because of both of them being of the same mind in helping Pokemon and stopping bad guys. Ngl early eps do set up pretty well the whole 'aura/connection' thing that Greninja will eventually grow into - he derives his power through strong emotions. Most of the time the Bond is activated through their shared excitement in battle, and they tend to lose it because of some disconnect that they experience afterwards. Back to XYZ EP28 'Seeing the Forest for the Trees!', when they finally manage to break off the bond without any strain (after how many eps....), it is due to the relief of a job well done. Just,, look at this!!

Now that I think about it, XYZ EP25 'Championing a Research Battle!' is also a nice place to see a bit more Greninja imo. When they get into the transformation after a successful hit on Diantha's Gardevoir (a rare sight, considering it's a speedy one) (also, interesting moment to lock in), Ash tends to shout out 'stronger!' or some variation after every so moves. Greninja is also a lot more evocative through his movements, or at least it seems so to me, and he's very hands-on in-your-face with the battle, with many attacks coming after him closing the gap while running forward most of the time. A interesting part that I noted was this observation by Clemont in regards to Greninja and Gardevoir:

It's not just me, Greninja is actively more agressive with his moves during the Bond Phenomenon, or at least here in this situation, faced up against a Champion's Ace. Right after this Ash calls Greninja to go 'faster, faster!' and then Greninja lauches himself forward again, with the graph looking tighter and tighter (I wish I could gif it but it's so transparent lol). Even Clemont is surprised! It's the fact that looking at the graph and the actual battle itself, all those commands Ash keeps calling out (to go faster, to be stronger, more, more) is something that Greninja also echoes at the same time. Greninja also believes this and so reflects this change as the battle rages on.

It goes to the point beyond them summoning a massive Water Shuriken, it goes beyond managing to slam through a Mega Gardevoir's Shadow Ball, it even goes beyond the wavelengths as well...

Those wavelengths look like two seconds away from just being a straight line imo. And that begs the question, if them being 'more' means merging more and more to the point where each wave is barely indistinguishable from the other, then what does that leave them? Does that mean that Ash and Greninja as we know it will cease to be seperate entities in every sense of the word? Will they truly become one?

I guess this is all to say, I feel like Greninja never really let go of that pride that he had since he was a Froakie - he truly measures himself by his strength and the results that brings him (and others too). While a bit more pragmatic about than Ash (usually), he still feels losses just as keenly as him and tends to stew in them to his detriment. He also lusts for power too, being just as eager to tap into that potential as Ash; not just for the sake of it, but in the service of others such as helping others in need (or at least it used to, until they both got lost in the greed and the rush in the Snowbelle arc). Greninja probably assumes he's the one with the biggest slice of the burden regarding the transformation because he is the one with the potential in the first place, but in the end it is a bond. It goes both ways. And it will take a lot for these two to realise that.

Maybe therein lies the journey, to learn how to share responsibility.
