Answering some of the questions involving the Yandere School universe. Gender neutral reader, mildly NSFW/suggestive in parts.

Just curious, is there a difference between men and women in the yandere/darling academy?

Not at all. In theory, there could be a difference in uniforms, as seen from the occasional depiction of skirts, but that's really up to the student. As in, they can wear either, regardless of gender.

When it comes to you, on the other hand...I feel like they'd either ask you to wear pants, or heavily reinforced skirts. Too many creepshots and perverted attempts otherwise.

I know the yandere school verse is meant to be silly but I’m genuinely invested in the lore and worldbuilding now. What classes are taught in both schools? Do the darlings resent the yanderes? WOULD THEY BEAT THE YANDERE STUDENT’S ASS IF THEY GOT FOUND OUT??? SO MANY QUESTIONS SMFKEDKK

To be honest, I still haven't considered all the logistics!

I'm imagining a mix of both when it comes to classes: you have yandere-specific courses, and then general subjects with some practical applications. Obviously you can't do without mathematics, for example. If you don't understand double integrals, how will you determine the area you need to cover to reach your Darling who's running for the hills?

Also, I don't think the Darlings would be too upset. After all, they are studying solely to find themselves a yandere one day. What is a little baffling is that out of all the damn darlings in school, this guy ends up chasing after a ‘yandere’ student.

One of the Yanderes at Yandere Academy is bound to be a Platonic, and they're probably going insane watching every student and teacher going after the school Darling. Do you think they'd be on the staff or a fellow student?

There's plenty of platonic yanderes, both among the students and teaching staff. They make up the security brigade, ensuring your safety and keeping dangers away. If other students let their infatuation go overboard, they will be quick to correct it.

In fact, this is where their yandere skills shine most. Taking care of you.

That'd be like opening Pandora's box. What's to guarantee that the students won't go feral? Even as a regular model, removing any article of clothing within the artistic depictions is strictly forbidden. The other teachers already have to sort through stacks of confiscated fanart involving you, they don't need a boost in lewd creations.

I suspect most teachers have a neatly organized storage full of content involving you. Whether it's accidental submissions, confiscated doodles, illegal photos and so on. Hell, they probably trade the stuff like collectibles.

"You got the fic I asked for?" one teacher asks lowly, resting against the wall.

Imagine yandere school y/n slips up and accidently calls a teacher mom/dad. Or worse (or perhaps better depending on who it is), mommy/daddy. y/n is embarrassed, yandere students are jealous, and teacher is now horny.

Terrifying affair. The teacher will have to evade weeks, maybe even months of assassination attempts coming from the students and parents. Reader probably joked about it at the dinner table once, and the mom/dad has been spiraling ever since. How could such a mistake happen? Have they neglected their darling child?

“I-It’s not what it looks like!” one student will stutter, terrified to find Reader’s parent behind them.

How would the readers parents/fam react if the reader complained about the school staff or a student? [Gym teacher dress coding reader] With this as personally speaking I would be really annoyed. The yan family could also take it as an insult because I know for a fact they make sure the reader has all the best stuff. As well how they're bothering or unfairly treating the reader. And if the yan fam connects that the school is yan (students and staff) they would FLIP OUT. But that's out of the point

I’d say it depends on their relationship. Remember, Reader’s parents are graduates of Yandere School, so it’s entirely possible they were taught by the very same teachers and staff. Thus, they might be reluctant to question their authority.

“You have to understand, I had my best intentions in mind”, gym teacher will explain to the parents with a solemn face.

“No, you’re right. We’ve seen the way those kids look at our (Y/N). Who knows what perverted thoughts linger in their mind?”

She sat back, a mischievous smile on her face. ‘Care to join me, handsome?’ She pouted playfully. ‘Unless you’re too busy that is…?’ She made a slight move, as if to climb away.

He looked over her, his mouth watering at the sight of her. He leaned over the bed, his hand on her knee.

‘Oh no, no, no. Don’t you dare. I am never too busy for you.’ He smirked. She was such a tease, this little game of cat and mouse making his pulse spike, his head spin with thoughts of what he wanted to do to her.

She hooked a finger under his chin. ‘Are you sure?’ She purred, as she beckoned him closer.

‘Absolutely.’ He murmured against her lips. He moved to kiss her only for her to lean back, just enough, the miniscule gap between them feeling almost impossible to cross in that moment. He groaned in frustration, his lips curling to a smile.

‘Sure of what, Harvey?’ She spoke softly, her gaze dropping to his lips.

‘Of how much I want you.’

‘You can have all of me.’ She smiled, their lips finally meeting, the sweetest moan escaping her. He melted into her delicate touch as she traced her fingertip down his throat, deepening the kiss, taking his breath away. She quirked an eyebrow as they parted.

‘You’re wearing far too many clothes, handsome.’ She smiled, her teeth pressing softly into the pink, kiss-swollen flesh of her perfect lips. He looked down at her, exquisite, half-naked, wearing beautiful teal lace that made her eyes shine. 

‘You’re right. How about we fix that?’ Looking down with a grin as his fingers moved slowly to unbuckle his belt, he chuckled. ‘You’re always so mischievous.’ His eyes locked onto hers. 

‘No-one ever said I was innocent.’ Her eyes flashed. He was lost.

My beloved friend, the sweetest person in the whole world, and incredibly talented artist @sunshinecovey was so so amazingly wonderful and drew Lyra and Harvey again. This commission was so fun for me as I have worked with Sunny several times and I feel like she knows my characters as much as I know them myself. So, I asked Sunny to take the lead and draw them how she felt they would be in a more spicy and intimate situation. And oh boy, did she deliver. Not only is this art utterly flawless but I feel she captured their relationship dynamic so beautifully. They've been together a long time, have had some ups and downs, and made it through. This is so them and I adore it completely.

Thank you so much Sunny for always working with me and for always drawing them so beautifully. I couldn't imagine writing them without you with me!

The worst thing about creative AI right now is that it produces bad results. The writing is bad, the images are bad, and the video is bad. It's impressive, sometimes, that the technology works as well as it does, but it's still bad.

I think if you sit down and go through a few hundred generations, then tweak and edit and inpaint and think intently, you can sometimes get something worth putting in front of people, if you have the right eye for it. I could definitely edit up an AI-written short story into something worth reading, especially if I was the one who had fed it the prompt and gone through the work of having my own ideas to insert. I think at least part of the output would be the AI's, and I could carve away everything that was nonsense or just bad, leaving only a few turns of phrase or some general boilerplate structure ... and this would take more time and effort than just writing the thing myself.

Most people who use generative AI do not want to do any work, and in fact, have no conception of what work would be required. Most of them are consumers, not producers, and they're used to the modes of content consumption, where you don't look closely at the details. Generative AI, in its current state, just kind of sucks when you're in a "press button, get results" mindset.

The stuff generated by "press button, get results" is the vast, vast majority of AI art that you will see, even accounting for filtering effects. There are a lot of people who have no love of artistry producing artwork via machines that are not good at making artwork, sometimes just for a lark, sometimes with profit in mind, and it's threatening to drown out other stuff in spite of being bad.

This is my thesis: generative AI produces bad results, and this is possibly the worst thing about it. If it were able to produce good results, I think that a lot of people would be less opposed to it. If you could get a short story that was worth reading, or a picture worth looking at, for no additional effort of manipulation or prompt engineering or whatever else, then we would be flooded with good art instead of bad art.

When it comes to art, I care about how it makes me feel, and what it's trying to say, and where the intent is, and what ideas it has. AI is not there. Possibly it will never get there. But sometimes I see a picture that the AI has made, and I do feel something in the sweep of the lines, or the composition, or just the juxtaposition of elements. It's just really really rare, and the product of either chance or really careful work on the part of some human. It's not something that the AI can do reliably, at least at the moment. You can also quibble about intent, because the AI "has none", but I find beauty in nature too, which is not trying to make a statement with its sunsets, and whose intents, if they can be said to exist, are mostly about things that are orthogonal to my perceptions, like the plumage of a sparrow or the curved leaves of a fern. To me, art is art because of the way that it can be read and the emotions that I feel when I look at it. Contentious, I'm sure, but I don't find other definitions all that useful.

But the art that the AI makes is, unless expertly guided, bad. And there's a ton of it, and it's impacting the ability of real artists to make superior work.

I think the future I see, if the AI doesn't get better, is one where we have a bunch of cheap shit that's replaced a lot of good expensive things. I am in favor of cheap things, but I'm not in favor of shit. I would love for translation to be as simple as pressing a button. I would love to have a good painting to go with every chapter I write. But we're in a world where the results mostly suck unless you're willing to put in quite a bit of effort and have some expertise in a field of creative endeavor, and that means we're in a world where the products are bad.

I'm interested to see how the conversation shifts if the results start getting better, because that seems to me like one of the sticking points.

We like canon Azriel and Elain and don’t need to assign them other characters’ characteristics or rewrite them. We appreciate the way they have been presented, flaws and all. We are invested in their story thanks to canon, not despite it.

Anon, I implore you to research the people you are sending these messages to. Elain, Azriel, Lucien, and Gwyn content is always positive on my pages—I commission art of them. As a neutral 3rd party looking over your anecdotal vivzie drama. I am so sorry to say but almost all of your serious claims are unfounded and baised off your own subjective opinions. I don't care about hazbin or helluva boss or whatever, but this critical community is by far the most toxic thing I've ever read in my entire life. Including that 17 year old who admitted to doxxing, and making deepfakes of artists who posted selfies trying to ruin their lives. And also in the same sentence fantazing about vivziepop getting brutally sexually assaulted and murdered. They made fanfics about that. While everyone came in and babied them and told them it's okay because vivziepop deserves it all.

I am genuinely appalled. I didn't even know who she was until maybe 4 days ago when an artist friend of mine got the most vitriol hatred for an innocent art piece of Charlie she posted. I'm trying to understand the hatred and educate myself. But all I see is an artist who was defensive over her OCs in 2018 that you all are pining unfair blame on fandom doings onto.

The critical community is genuinely worse than HetaStuck in the 2010s. You all seem so blinded by your hatred that it's clouding your sense of human decency or mortality. Especially to artists. My friend did not deserve the death and violent threats she got in her DMs. This isnt even just for you, but the whole community. I hope you all grow up and get help.

Being critical about media is important. You don't need to agree or like everything being produced. But this isn't objective criticism. This is dangerous, half of these messages read like a school shooter manifesto disguised as performative social justice.

"I'm a neutral third-party who has no dog in this fight and just learned about Viv five minutes ago and I think you're all just dumb jealous haters harping over Viv drama from 2018 and I'm totally not a stan at all."

You guys have got to get better at lying, or at least a better script to read from. I checked off an entire bingo card with this one.

On the paper thin chance that you're serious about learning why people criticize Vivienne Medrano, my advice is to actually read the receipt Twitter and stop assuming everyone who breathes a negative word about this woman condones the actions of crazy people, because I certainly don't.

Q&A - The Bodyguard (Amis)

In chapter 1, players will meet 3 of 6 major characters in Bethroned with whom the MC will develop a relationship. Whether that relationship is platonic, romantic, or hostile in nature will depend on players' choices.

In case you missed it, a sneak peek into the first of those three characters, Amis the Bodyguard, dropped on Friday.

As promised, here are answers to some of the questions I have received since then, presented below the cut. The answers are free of story spoilers and mostly pertain to fun details. That said, questions that contain lore spoilers will be preceded by a warning.

Do you have a Pinterest board for Amis?

I do, but it's private because I mostly use it for my own inspiration. Pinterest is littered with a lot of AI art (of which I'm not fond) and its users can be bad about crediting artists; if I were to make it public, I'd want to make sure artists are credited, and I usually don't vet it when I'm simply saving an image to a board for inspiration and not to share. That being said, here are some credited images that kind of evoke him His appearance (note: his eyes are hazel) His armor (source: Loras Tyrell in GoT; specifically the cloak motif) Additionally, sometimes I reblog posts on tumblr that remind me of my characters. For Amis, you'd find any such posts tagged as #insp: amis.

Where would Amis fall on the McDonald's Alignment Chart?

He'd be somewhere between the kids shouting "McDonald's! McDonald's! McDonald's!" and the parent saying "We have food at home." Leaning more towards "McDonald's!" chanting, of course.

What's his D&D alignment?

Neutral good.

If Amis was an animal, what would he be?

A sea otter: cute, but capable of vicious brutality.

How does Amis best give and receive comfort?

When giving comfort, Amis prioritizes being physically present first, and offering the comfort of touch second. When he sees someone he cares for hurting, his immediate instinct is to hug them tight, but he's able to repress the urge in order to gauge what they're comfortable with. It physically pains him when he can't be present when someone needs him. Similarly, Amis feels comforted by presence and touch; it helps ground him more than words can. He especially feels comforted by having someone pet/play with his hair.

How would Amis react to a shy MC just nervously asking for a kiss while blushing up a storm and avoiding making eye contact with him?

If they'd never kissed before: He would break out into a delighted smile and reach for their hand. Once given, he'd bring their hand to his lips while bowing, looking at their face the whole time. If they proceeded to say that's not what they meant by a kiss, then he would gently ask them to look him in his eyes and ask him again. He'd want to see that they really want it. If they'd kissed before: He would reach out and gently tilt their head towards him and trace the bottom of their lip fondly. "Always," he'd say with a smile before softly meeting their lips with his own.

How would Amis react to a MC who is off in their own little world just playing with his hand before slotting both their hands together and holding it, just looking happy with themselves and not noticing that Amis was watching them?

He'd have a huge smile on his face and end up squeezing their hand without thinking about it. He'd be lost in his own little world, captivated by the MC.

Minor lore spoilers:

What would romanced Amis say if the MC asked him, "Would you still love me if I was a worm?"

(Assuming they meant if they were turned into a worm.) He would frown at the thought and say, "I would be really sad if you turned into a worm..." Then his eyes would light up. "Oh! But I'd know just where to take you. My sister owns a beautiful vineyard in Korcome and the soil would be so rich and wonderful for your needs! They get a decent amount of rain there, too." After a pause, he'd add, "Worms like rain, right?"

Can you tell us more about Amis' homeland?

Amis grew up in Korcome, which was absorbed into the Dawn Empire 7 years before the game takes place. Korcome is famed for its vineyards; it's soil is amazing for growing grapes. It's also known for its olive trees. Aesthetically speaking, its best real-world analogue is Greece. Korcome was never a kingdom or empire; it's always been a society bound by barons and wealthy land owners with alliances and their own private militaries. Basically, before joining the Dawn Empire, Korcome operated like feudalism only without a central figure. This contributed to instability and corruption at every level; crime guilds run rampant in Korcomian's biggest cities. This is, in part, why even the barons and baronesses of Korcome were eager to be absorbed into the Dawn Empire -- they knew that they would be able to hold onto their titles and deeds while being able to benefit from the Sun Throne's protection and leadership.

What does he do in most of his free time?

Amis really enjoys baking, and he's quite good at it. He's especially talented at baking sweet treats! He doesn't get much opportunity to bake, however, seeing as he doesn't have his own kitchen and the royal kitchens are often busy. Instead, he mostly spends his free time reading new cookbooks, and writing letters to his mom and sisters back in Korcome. He also likes to go out into the city and peruse bakeries and market stalls for inspiration.

What are his thoughts on the war and the MC's betrothal?

Amis doesn't really know much about the war so he doesn't have much of an opinion. He's just glad it's over. Similarly, he doesn't know much about the betrothal or how noble alliances work. If he doesn't understand of have firsthand knowledge about something, he's unlikely to develop a strong opinion on it.

How does Amis feel about the Dawn Empire?

He likes the Dawn Empire well enough, especially because things have become safer back home for his mom and sisters. The stability has been such a relief; it's part of why he was happy to join the Dawnguard.

Has Amis ever been in love before? How much experience does he have?

Amis develops crushes quite easily, but he's never been in love. He's had a few relationships in his time, but none have lasted particularly long. He prefers committed relationships to casual flings.

Job title aside, if he could save only one, would he choose the MC or the world?

Ohhh now this is a tough one. I'm going to have to say it depends on whether or not his mom and sisters are still around. If he didn't have his family to worry about and he was in love with the MC, he would absolutely choose the MC.

I like your move of defining goodness and badness for the purpose of the argument; I'm breaking your argument down as 'goodness is something that exists objectively but that is subjectively perceived' -> 'things that are of material benefit are objectively good' -> 'art has no material benefit' -> 'art is not good' (read: art is neutral).

I like this take a lot, but I would push at the premise that 'art has no material benefit'. I would counter that art can either be materially harmful or materially beneficial. Mount rushmore is an example of, under this definition, 'bad' art; it might cause subjectively good feelings in its viewers but has a materially negative impact on its environment and on the ecosystem it was created in, it is deleterious to the environment, etc. 'Good' art, then, might be those submerged sculptures that are used as surfaces to grow coral reefs. If we are defining 'good' or 'bad' from this objective frame (earlier you used the example of something being objectively healthy while subjectively not tasting good), then we might find art that falls into either of these camps :)

the problem is this: as already discussed, art as it exists by itself, which exists as art primarily, is something that cannot be objectively good. there are things which can be artfully created which can be good (re: a children's hospital built by a genius architect), but that is something that is already good which is only enhanced by being artistically pleasing (a la the reef sculptures).

now that you bring it up, it might also be worth appending to that argument that there also exists things that can be artfully created that are objectively bad (a la your rushmore example), though that doesn't change the conclusion of the argument. in fact, we can extrapolate that any art which does not justify the means of its own creation (whether this be by the ethics surrounding what it portrays/its method of creation, or even just a movie which doesn't make up for its budget in revenue or public interest) should be considered at least somewhat worse than neutral. though i think on a small scale like "a drawing i made that nobody cared about", it wouldn't really even be considered worth measuring. it is only virtually, hypothetically worse than neutral.

i mean dont get me wrong, being a visual artist kinda sucks, like its a lot of work to develop your skills and you have devote a lot of time to it in order to get better.

which means that if you've been doing that since you were five and now you're 25 and you meet a 15 year old that is clearly better than you who says that they've only been drawing for a few months.... uh, naturally you want to kill them and yourself. but you also have to bite your tongue because hating on another artist, especially one younger than you, looks to everyone else exactly like the sort of cope that it is, and to their credit most other artists find the crab-bucket mentality distasteful, no matter how much they secretly engage in it themselves. so you've gotta repress that urge.

meanwhile, enter the stupid robot that will let anyone make halfway decent art, even "techbros" who don't know enough basic rules of composition to tell when it fucks up, who don't care enough to notice when the fingers are all mangled or the eyes are wrong. you couldn't hate on the talented teenagers, but these techbros and their stupid robot seem like they might be acceptable targets by your standard, its not like they worked very hard for this. and now some of them are winning art contests against actual human artists!

but of course normal people who arent artists dont understand and still think you look crazy for shouting about something that doesnt affect you, so you gotta come up with a reason why this is harming you. maybe it's going to take your future job. maybe its "stolen" art and the law should be changed to make it a copyright violation. maybe it's bad for the environment. maybe its... not really art somehow? now, none of these excuses are very convincing and all of them fall apart under further examination, but maybe if you come up with enough of them and sound sufficiently angry about it, perhaps no one will notice the flaws, and the AI art will all go away and you can go back to pretending not to hate anyone younger than you. hey when was the last time you drew anything anyway?
