i’m officially starting to teach myself spanish after 3 years learning little to nothing in class :)

I did a quick introduction as my first post, but I've seen that there's a particular format most new studyblrs are using, so here goes!

About Me

My name is Kat, and my pronouns are she/her.

I attend a small state university in Texas. I will graduate in May of 2020 with a B.S. in Environmental Science and minors in Biology and Chemistry. ♻️

I live with my wonderful boyfriend, Benjamin, who has degrees in History and Spanish from the university I currently attend. He teaches Spanish at the local public high school.

I have 3 jobs! I babysit every Wednesday, work at the local children's museum on weekends, and I'm a peer tutor at my university during the week. The subjects I tutor are government, psychology, geology, microbiology, meteorology, and statistics (assuming I make an A in it, I'll know in about 2 weeks). 💸

I have two kitties, Minke and Weasley, and I'm completely obsessed with them.

Past Experiences

Summer 2019 - I did a Study Abroad program in Belize over Terrestrial Watershed Ecology and Tropical Marine Biology. Hopefully I'll go back next summer for an internship! 🏝

Summer 2017 - I interned at a marine wildlife rehabilitation facility with a focus on sea turtles. That's me in the picture releasing a green sea turtle!

Summer 2016 - I assisted in a microbiology lab that was creating gene libraries for coral species. I did RNA extractions for the DNA sequencing. 🧬

Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 - I assisted in a chemistry lab where we were attempting to find a series of chemical reactions that would turn carbon dioxide back into reusable carbon without using or creating hazardous materials. We weren't successful :(

Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 - I assisted (aka washed dirt) for a paleontology lab. Not gonna lie, I wasn't particularly in-the-know about what was going on. I was a junior in high school (11th grade), I was just excited to be there lol.

Summers 2010 and 2011 - I volunteered over 100 hours each summer at a nationally ranked aquarium! I usually worked with the penguins but I preferred worked in the Caribbean exhibit. 🐠

My Goals

Get into a Masters thesis-track for Fall 2020! 🎓

Maintain or improve my current GPA of 3.7

Not die (or fail) when I take Organic Chemistry I this fall semester. 😱

Become a more efficient student! I frequently use brute force to get good grades when often there's an easier, more eloquent way to go about it.

Any relationship advice?

communication is key!!! tell them how you really feel and always tell the truth. last year i was sooo close to going out with a girl i really liked but bc i never fully expressed it to her, she thought i was uninterested :( it may seem scary opening up to someone but nothing will happen if you don’t tell them how you feel. i hope this helps!!!
