What if Jin Ling and Lan Sizhui started dating post-canon after some nervous pining, keeping their relationship a secret from the other half of the quartet.

Then, after some time, jl ends up asking lsz if he really loves him, because of the way he looks at ljy he has this something in his eyes. After some nervous turning around the subject, lsz finally admits he does /also/ love ljy, the same way he does jl. but lsz doesn't dare tell him, because he's sure ljy doesn't feel the same.

jl ends up telling him he doesn't mind sharing if it make him happier. Especially since it is clear ljy is also pining for lsz, but had noticed their little "secret" relationship and didn't dare step in. Turns out lsz is happily surprised and gets himself a second boyfriend, jl and ljy slowly develop their own brand of love.

So they now start this new poly couple, rather happy with how thing seems to work. But now that they are often only the three of them most of the time, they feel like they are missing someone all the time.

Then they realise that maybe, they didn't see oyzz as just a friend. They also feel a bit guilty for having left him so much to the side as they were trying to make this whole new thing work. lsz is the one to come up to oyzz to talk about it to him, as the two others didn't know how to bring it up to him. 

oyzz doesn't really know what to answer to this, as he never really thought about it in the past. He /does/ have a little something for lsz tho "now that he's thinking about it", but doesn't know if he should join them. He does, and things turn out even better than before. 

They are back to being the juniors quartet, but this time as lovers, even though most obviously don't know. Some days a more difficult, sometimes communication is hard, but they would rather not give it up for anything in the world, they absolutely like it the way it is. 

I also wonder how the parents would all react.

I'd see jc going "Really jl, /another/ boyfriend? I suppose at least this time he's not a plan, shouldn't be too troublesome". Yet he doesn't try to break them off anyway, as he would rather see his nephew happy than sad because he tried to break them off.

wn is over the moon that lsz is surrounded by so many people who love him that much. Although even this sweet cinnamon bun has warned one time that they shouldn't dare to break his heart. All three hurriedly agreed. 

lwj would be the silently supportive dad, ready to listen and give advice despite easy relationships not being his department. All he can wish for is for none of them to suddenly disappear on him for 13 years.

wwx isn't sure at first how come baby a-yuan is collecting this many boyfriends, but is just as supportive, ready to help them out. He's the dad ready to bring up the most embarrassing thing simply because he's trying his best to help his son out. If he can make sure lsz is not as lost as he was, then it would be this already won. 

I cannot tell what oyzz dad would say, but if he were to not be supportive of his son, oyzz is made quickly aware that he already has a new family ready to support him whatever happens with him (my hurt/comfort ass don't like oyzz dad, so it would probably not be a good react) but oyzz is better off with all these other cultivators ready to support him than him anyway.

They lived happily ever after and we forget that jl is the jll sect leader (am not thinking angst tonight okay, shoo shoo).

Two new species of freshwater goby (Teleostei, Gobiidae) from the Upper Youshui River, Chongqing, China

Abstract

Two previously unknown species of Rhinogobius have been discovered in the streams of the Upper Youshui River, within the Yuan River Basin, Xiushan County, Chongqing, China. These new species are named as  Rhinogobius sudoccidentalis  and Rhinogobius lithopolychroma. Phylogenetic analysis based on mitochondrial genomes revealed that R. sudoccidentalis is genetically closest to R. reticulatus, while R. lithopolychroma shares the greatest genetic similarity with R. leavelli. Morphological distinctions allow for the clear differentiation of these species. Rhinogobius sudoccidentalis sp. nov. is characterized by having VI–VII rays in the first dorsal fin and I, 8–9 rays in the second dorsal fin. The longitudinal scale series typically consists of 22–24 scales, while the transverse scale series comprises 7–8 scales. Notably, the predorsal scale series is absent and the total vertebrae count is 12+17=29.  Rhinogobius lithopolychroma sp. nov. can be distinguished from other species by the presence of 13–15 rays on the pectoral fin. Its longitudinal scale series ranges from 30 to 33 scales, with no scales in the predorsal area. The total vertebral count is 30, with 12 precaudal and 18 caudal vertebrae. The head and body of this species are light gray with irregular orange markings on the cheeks and opercle. Through morphological and molecular analyses, it has been confirmedthat R. lithopolychroma and R. sudoccidentalis represent novel species within the Rhinogobius genus.

Both Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are portrayed to be grey characters. But while Wei Wuxian is vilified, Lan Wangji has still somehow managed to retain his reputation. I always found it interesting that Wei Wuxian was the one who took action for morality while Lan Wangji did everything he did for Wei Wuxian. Yet they are perceived by people as the villain and the man who was led astray.

There are many stories where Wei Wuxian grew up as a rogue cultivator but not many where we can explore Lan Wangji as anything but Gusu Lan. Can you help me find a book where Lan Wangji's character is explored without the impact of Gusu Lan's 3000 rules. His base character without the tempering of the Gusu Lan more stringent morality.

can you clarify if you want canon divergent works only ? or are modern aus okay? I don't think I follow that lan zhan did things for Wei ying. I think LZ was brought up a certain way which of course influenced his actions, he then had his world view challenged (with Wei ying as the catalyst) and it expanded and he changed as a person. Maybe we are thinking about different parts of the story tho.

Because you have zhuiyi which is like childhood best friends to lovers, "i cause problems" and "i fix the problems", soft mom friend + chaotic stupid. Their relationship naturally progresses from best friends to lovers, but they're both stupid in love matters, so they don't realize they're basically dating for a while

Then you have zhuiling which is like soft boy + tsundere who is struggling to tsundere because soft boy is so soft he forgets to be tsundere sometimes. It's also extra rich boy x (idk?) boy, so you have one constantly finding reasons to dote on the other, and the other not realizing it means that the rich boy got a crush

Then you have zhuizhen which is like sticking the soft boy mom friend together with the half time mom friend half time chaotic stupid (jingyi level) and sometimes both at once. Their relationship is all levels of soft, and sometimes they're the only voices of reason

Then there's lingyi which sticks together tsundere boy and chaotic stupid boy and slaps on a love-hate relationship and turns chaotic stupid boy tsundere only for tsundere boy. They thrive off insulting each other, but if someone else insulted or hurt the other they would go ham like "I'M THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED TO INSULT HIM LIKE THAT". Both would go crazy in rage if the other was hurt, but they also wouldn't admit it. They play pranks on each other all the time. They heavily deny having crushes on each other, and sometimes Jin Ling buys Lan Jingyi stuff but won't admit he was the one who bought it. Jingyi is half "Ooh you wanna kiss me so bad" and "who would kiss you?", and Jin Ling is just "Who would kiss you?"

Then zhenling which is tsundere boy + half mom friend half chaotic stupid, so sometimes they're like zhuiling and have such a sweet relationship where Jin Ling forgets he's a tsundere, sometimes they have a bit of that love-hate double tsundere thing going on, sometimes Zhizhen acts like his mom, and other times they team up to prank Jingyi

Then there's zhenyi which is chaotic stupid soft boy + half mom friend half chaotic stupid, so half the time Zizhen is the voice of reason and they have a zhuiyi like relationship, and half the time they're like chaotic stupid bros who pull pranks on each other in good fun or team up to prank Jin Ling. They can be very ride or die at times, and they can also be really soft

So then you stick zhuilingyizhen together and you have this best friend group formed under interesting circumstances that became ride or die pretty fast with multiple different dynamics, but it's filled with so much love and chaos. It's romantic time with the boys and despite the different dynamics they all love each other

Somehow got this from another thread yesterday: oyz is the most "knowledgeable" about sex and romance. Then it made me wanna rank them:

1- OYZ: a romantic who reads a lot of romance novels, which some do get rather graphic and are even illustrated. He theoretically knows more than the basics, despite having never done anything himself. He would totally be the one his bf turns to they want to know what to do so they do it correctly.  

2- LSZ: this sweet and seemingly innocent bean always surprise them when he knows about such things. None of his bf are sure /where/ he learned all this (probably asked wwx, lwj or with some books), he simply tells them he wanted to make sure that he would never hurt his partner in the future because he didn't know how to do it well.  

3- LJY: knows some things out of just being told how babies are made (for real, no metaphor!) And by very unfortunately stumbling onto interesting documents wwx had left all messed up with his other documents. There are things he also wishes he had never heard or noticed.  

4- JL: never really had the time nor the interest to learn more than just how baby a really made. Jgy was often too busy to ever even think of having such a talk, where jc had his own problems and had never thought to talk about such thing with him, probably assuming jgy did. He tries to hide his lack of knowledge until he realises none of his bf will mock him for not knowing, they will learn with him as it goes.

Jin Ling blinks a few times, then rolls his eyes in a perfect imitation of sect leader Jiang. 

"You just can't compare the two," he hisses, crossing his arms on his chest. It's supposed to look authoritative but Ouyang Zizhen just finds it cute, like a small dog that thinks it's big. 

Ouyang Zizhen has learned to keep that sort for himself. With Jin Ling, there's a fine line between 'adorably annoyed' and 'storing off because he's actually upset that he's not taken seriously'. 

"I'm just saying it's traumatic either way," Ouyang Zizhen claims. 

Jin Ling gives him That Look. The one he gets when he thinks everyone around him must be acting stupid on purpose because it's not possible for people to be such idiots. He's right in this case, Ouyang Zizhen is doing it on purpose, but it's not his fault. Jin Ling just gets so cute when he's a little pissed off. 

"Listen. I love you, but stop talking," Jin Ling orders. "Your dad being annoying doesn't compare to all my uncles being mass murderers, and one of them having tried to murder me personally." 

"I grew up in a house where Sect Leader Yao was a frequent guest," Ouyang Zizhen insists with a pout. "He tried to teach me how to be a better swordsman, and my father let him. Encouraged him!" 

Jin Ling shivers, and takes a second to consider that. 

"Well, that explains why you suck so much I guess." 

Ouyang Zizhen grins. This is exactly the sort of opening he was hoping for. 

"Jin-gege, if I'm so bad, won't you teach me then?" he asks in a flirty voice. 

The effect is immediate. Jin Ling's mouth falls open in shock over those shameless words, his eyes grow wide, and his entire face goes so red that the dot on his forehead disappears. It's so cute, Ouyang Zizhen loves him all flustered like that, as much as he loves him pissed off, or when he gets in sect leader mode and is so serious it takes his breath away, or when he's soft and shy after enough kisses, or…. 

Ah, Ouyang Zizhen just loves him in general, really. 

So he smiles when Jin Ling recovers enough to splutter and complain, and he waits for a chance to kiss him at a moment that will get more adorable reactions out of him.

Headcanon, part 2

So, I’ve seen a few posts in which ZiZhen has plenty of siblings due to his dad being old and all, and I raise you with: ZiZhen has many moms.

A total of 6, to be precise, would have been 7 if his own mother had survive. So here’s the thing:

1 - ZiZhen is an only child.

2 - His father realized, after marrying his third wife, that the problem of conception does not lie with the women he beds but with his own genetic. He’s still hoping it might happen with the right woman though. 

3 - ZiZhen is pretty much a miracle baby from an infertile (but not sterile) father.

4 - His mother was the first wife. After she died, the second concubine got that title. The third concubine arrived a year after the first wife’s death. 

5 - Ouyang Dad still tried to have more kids, marrying 3 more women, yet never earning any results (3 more instead of 2, because 4 is a bad omen). 

6 - He would have kept only those, but his fourth wife got badly sick and she was expected to die within the year. Not wanting to keep only 4 women in his household (again, bad omen), he took another wife during that time. The fourth wife survived, and they are now 6 in total. 

7 - All the wives, fully aware they’ll never have a child of their own unless Ouyang Dad adopts (which is unlikely), dotes on ZiZhen like he is their own son. 

8 - The second concubine, now first wife, was raised in the Meishan Yu sect, although not part of the main Yu clan. Her family has been part of the sect for three generations. She is the third daughter.

9 - When the Second Concubine married into the Baling sect, ZiZhen’s mom was still childless. She got pregnant with ZiZhen a year or so after the arrival of the Second Concubine, who also remained childless.

10 - ZiZhen knows many stories of his mother through the bedtime tales of the Second Concubine.

11 - The third concubine is from YunMeng. She was a dancer, born from a rogue cultivator, who taught her to train her golden core, and a dancer, who taught her the skills she made a livelihood of after her parents death when she was 16. She was 19 when she joined the OuYang household. 

12 - She and the Second Concubine slowly fell for each other and became lovers. 

13 - ZiZhen once caught them kissing. They both told him beautiful stories of soulmates and how easily those bonds can be broken by the cruelty of the world. ZiZhen listened with rapture and promised never to tell a soul about what he saw, for his aunties were true soulmates. (Yes, they both manipulated ZiZhen into not telling his father of what he saw).

14 - That moment sparked ZiZhen’s interest in love stories and slowly shaped him into the romantic he is. 

15 - He later understood what Second and Third concubine truly meant by their story. It fueled his passion for WangXian more than anything. 

16 - The Fourth Concubine was from the Chang clan. She got sick after hearing of their horrible death at the hands of Xue Yang, and how the latter escaped justice for it. Her cultivation has always been weaker than most, which is why she was thought to die from her pain, but, with the help of Second and Third Concubines, she got through. Her body still does not allow her to travel very far, but she enjoys taking long walks in the gardens of the previous First Wife, lovingly tended to by she and the other concubines. 

17 - During her recovery, she began to write stories to keep herself entertained.

18 - ZiZhen is her most fervent fan, always poking in her rooms to have a sneak peek of her next story. 

19 - Because of the involvement of the Jin Clan in the absence of justice for the Chang, she is the most suspicious of the budding relationship between ZiZhen and Jin Ling. While not outright disagreeing, she always keeps her eyes open to any clues that might tell Jin Ling is not right for ZiZhen.

20 - The Fifth Concubine is the 5th daughter of a rich Baling family. She was raised in the sect, developing a strong core, often helping Young Master ZiZhen, age 14 by now, to train. At age 25, still unmarried, the Fifth Concubine was noticed for the first time by OuYang Dad, on a day she actually bothered to dress nicely. She went back to what I would call an “Ancient Chinese Butch Look” shortly after the wedding.

23 - When Fourth fell sick, that’s when OuYang Dad hurriedly tried to find Seventh Concubine. She was a merchant’s daughter, selling her father’s ware at the market. Ouyang Dad tried to haggle something much cheaper than it was worth. She stood her ground. He asked to marry her. 

24 - She refused at first. “I am not a cultivator, what am I bringing to you?” OuYang Dad, at this point trying one last time before calling it quit, decided that maybe it would work, a baby with a non-cultivator. 

25 - It did not work. But Seventh is pretty happy with her lot. She’s well taken care of, especially by the other concubine who all warmly welcomed her, and they all promised to take care of her the same, even once she’s old and grey. 

26 - So ZiZhen is really well loved by his father’s remaining 6 wives. That’s where he gets his “Respect Women” juice from. 

27 - The only reason why he’s been feeling down lately with his father’s expectations and mistreatment is because said father also cut the time ZiZhen is allowed to spend with them, he has “Sect Related Duties” now, he doesn’t have the time to play around anymore. 

28 - The Wives eventually called bullshit. ZiZhen has been feeling better ever since. 

29 - OuYang Dad is painfully oblivious to his Wives relationship together. He is just happy none of them are giving him any headaches. 

30 - One day, Jiggy went to Ouyang Dad and congratulated him on the harmony of his household. Jiggy, of course, thought he would be subtly blackmailing OuYang Dad with the scandal of his wives together (where did he learnt that? Fuck if I know!), but Oblivious OuYang just smiled and thanked him, which kinda messed up Jiggy’s plan. Not that he needed to blackmail Sect Leader OuYang, but it’s always useful to do so. Anyway, Jiggy left the conversation thinking Ouyang Dad thought everyone knew already and he was happy with it. 

31 - Eventually, Ouyang Dad DID learn the truth, well into ZiZhen’s 20′s. He got mad for about 5 minutes before calming down. “At least they can’t get pregnant from this, it won’t bring me any shame.”

32 - He lets them be, especially since they let him be. He enjoys his quiet evenings away from whatever his wives are doing. 

33 - Which is ironic considering he is friends with one of the loudest mouths in the Cultivation world, Sect Leader Yao. 

34 - All the wives avoid him like the plague whenever he visits Baling. 

35 - All the wives having a golden core, they go to Night Hunts together from time to time. Seventh sometimes tags along despite not having a golden core, while Fourth tends to stay at home after her sickness. 

36 - They are all very careful though, since they know ZiZhen’s mother died during a Night Hunt and they all promised ZiZhen they would not be careless.

37 - ZiZhen started calling the Concubines “Autie”, but one day, he accidentally called Fourth “Mom”, and all the others got jealous and wanted to be called “Mom” too, so he now calls them First mom, Second mom, Third mom, etc.

38 - He uses a different, more childish word when talking about his deceased birth mother. 

Aaaaaand that’s it for tonight folks! I know some of what I’ve written gets change a little now that I have this headcanon in mind, but I’ll keep this for whatever’s coming next in the OG world (well, canon-divergence world now XD). See you guys soon with some new OS!
