Okay, so there’s the obvious combos we want to see more of in season 2 (Santos and Whitaker as roommates/besties, Langdon and Mel as mentor/mentee or as lovers, Abbott/Mohan), BUT I also would like to see way more of:

McKay and Langdon - she’s admitted to struggling with addiction in the past and I think she could offer him support from a more understanding place and I just want to see them become good friends

McKay and Collins - idk we just didn’t get to see them interact a whole lot and I wanna know what kind of dynamic they’d have

I wanna see all the women interact more

Abbott and Santos - his comment about her being badass for doing the REBOA. I think he could be a really good mentor for Santos. They both seem to like taking risks and Abbott seems the most patient of the attendings imo.

Whitaker and Javadi - they’re both students so I’d love to see them become better friends that have each others backs while they both navigate becoming doctors. I feel like they also both maybe have some baggage regarding their parents (Javadi obviously does) and I think it would be nice to see them be supportive of each other in that regard.

Honestly we’ve mostly just seen Javadi with McKay and I loved that but i wanna see more of her in general. Maybe more with Mel or Abbott. Oooh or Garcia, I love the idea of Javadi picking up some of Garcias take-no-shit attitude and learning how to stand up for herself a little more.

I wanna see a kinda of mentorship relationship with Whitaker and Mohan. Idgaf what Robby says, Mohans thorough approach with patients is awesome and I wish more doctors were like her, and we’ve seen that Whitaker is kind of similar with how he is with patients and I’d love to see him become Mohan 2 and they just BOTH take their time to make patients comfortable and the satisfaction scores just go way up

Just more of the night shift staff period. We didn’t get to learn a whole lot about most of them and I can just tell that Ellis and Shen are gonna be such interesting characters.

i. when i was 19 and in a very hetero relationship, i fell in love with Andrea Gibson.

ii. we were poor so i was going to community college and also working a full-time job. i was miserable. the nicest thing that happened to me during that time was that someone bought me a free coffee. i had been sobbing in the corner of the library. she said you look like you needed help. i was so sad at the time that i was looking for "the sign". almost like a mantra, i'd say things like if there's a nice sunset, i won't kill myself tomorrow.

iii. you know, in all that time, i never wanted anything. the idea of desire was so foreign to me that i couldn't conceptualize a favorite color. what is want in the voidspace?

iv. andrea was the first, is the thing. i found their work on button poetry. i watched a poem once and then twice and then sat back and thought to myself - what i had been writing was not poetry, it was reaction. what andrea was writing was poetry. i knew it had to be, because it burst inside of me. i looked down and a hole had torn open. there was nothing for it. i put my hands inside the wound and started to pull.

v. it was slam poetry and then pretentious poetry and then esoteric poetry and then the black mountain poets and then tender buttons and then back to slam again and then back to the classics and theory and the academic shit and then finally thank-god understanding started dawning and then upwards into contemporaries and inwards into why aren't i writing something real and then realizing i never understood anything then crying about three syllables that don't sound right and then sunning myself outside of the emily dickinson house and then back to slam and back to the roots of it and backwards into -

vi. and the joy! holy fuck i wish i could tell you about it. on the back of ink came life. it was community and safety and pushing limits. it was saying oh yeah no i'm gay and oh shit i'm nonbinary. it was a cliche; life like a map just exploding. because i knew - i had my thing. wherever i went, so too would come writing.

vii. on saturday i reached 7,700 poems on here. i made myself a gin and tonic to celebrate. i have been writing seriously, almost-every-day, sometimes multiple times a day - for over 10 years. i started this, became this - because i saw someone stand on stage and say something i knew to be poetry.

viii. andrea died today, july 14th, 2025, at the age of 49.

I just realized. One thing that Optimus will certainly be educated on by the Primes in the Haunted AU is the various was One Can Kill A Quintesson! Leaving some Autobots confused at times when he's teaching them in return because 'This sounds pretty Specific...???'

It's slightly competitive on the Primes' part because yeah, the Deceptions do got the High Guard being good at killing Quintessons too but. They're the Real Experts. (Are they salty? Naaaah they're not. Much. Kinda.)

and if they happen to teach Optimus how to crack open a Quintesson in just the right way to make some Decepticons see ghosts through him... that's between them and the people they're haunting :)

i don't know how i'm going to pay my rent this month. people like to offer me chipper little hints - no coffee! how about less eggs? - while i survive off 20 dollars a week. as if saving 20 dollars will somehow manifest the 2000 i need. little bits of yourself and your life get cut up this way; redistributed into financial offerings.

poverty just feels like - the spill happened. why are we quibbling about the best way to keep water inside a glass when the glass is already empty. no amount of scraping at the floor will peel up what i have lost. it's just - gone.

Pike telling the audience "I'm Christian by the way" was absolutely unnecessary after he said "They're not hard to understand - They're monsters through and through and we've got to kill as many of them as we can" to Starfleet about an alien species he barely knows anything about. The final frontier indeed. I know the Gorn are The Monster Aliens because I'm watching a television show, but in a universe where aliens are common and usually people-like it's a bit historically sickening to see our Main White Christian Good Guy say with his whole chest "These aliens are not people, they're Things we have to kill and if we don't kill them they'll kill us and destroy our utopian society and impregnate our women. We can't talk to them, there's no alternative solution, we HAVE to kill them all." and have that presented as righteous and correct. Because I'm watching a television show, I know that Pike is correct when he says that in the canon of SNW the Gorn are monsters who can't be reasoned with and aren't people - because they were written by someone to be that way. However, if I'm a higher up in-universe listening to Pike say this I think I'd actually be kinda horrified by this guy and not trust him at all as the captain of a ship whose mission is apparently to seek out strange new worlds. He reads in-universe as evil. It is an evil thing to do. On any other trek show the guy who, in 'aliens and science rules!' world where everyone you know is some manner of alien, says "We should just kill these guys, they're monsters so it literally doesn't even matter" would be treated as being in the wrong - either ignorant/fearful, having a hidden agenda, or being plain evil. Because in this world aliens are people? Some are enemies of the Federation, some are 'The Bad Guys' but they're mostly all portrayed as being people who it would be bad for the Good Guys to want to kill indiscriminately. "The Federation teaches that if we can find a way to empathize with an enemy then they can one day become our friends. They're wrong." ^ This is how the Gorn are introduced to the audience by La'An in season 1 and it's a sentiment Pike mirrors in season 3. It's never proven wrong. SNW tells us that this is a correct attitude to take. The Gorn are said to be "the boogeyman" in season 1 - they're mostly the thing of rumors. We see they're capable of complex thinking. They're intelligent enough to hide their presence, set up traps, develop coded language so others can't understand them, build and fly ships, but they're ALSO just monsters who can't be reasoned with and only want to kill. Interesting how a species of monstruous killing machines have ships. Having advanced ships implies to me...idk...that they built them? That they have some knowledge of science, engineering, astrometrics, etc.? I know, because I'm watching a tv show, that the Gorn are intelligent because it's scarier for them to be and they have ships because they have to be an ongoing threat. But again, if I'm a person in-universe it would read as suspicious to me, worthy of question, if I'm being told this is the one species we're all just gonna be okay with killing remorselessly. It would seem contradictory to me that this species is both extremely intelligent and completely unreasonable. That they're both pure monster and capable of enormous scientific achievement. "Earlier today, we were reminded of the cost of exploration. What it means to chart the stars, to push the boundaries of what is known and what is possible. When we seek out the unknown, we will find things that challenge us. That frighten us. But we do not back down. We do not give in to fear. And I believe today will not be our last mission, but our finest hour." This is also from season 1, it's Pike, and he's talking about escaping from the Gorn not killing them but wow does this ring hollow as hell when his heel turn towards absolutely just killing them is treated as equally heroic if not more so. I half expect him to start talking about manifest destiny next season.

I like the fact that the devs agreed and added the parallel that the ancients are all very kind to themselves, even at their worst, how vulnerable they can be. In chapter 10, HB accepts Lily's wrongdoings, and despite the fact that it took her a while to process her trauma, she tries to make peace with her.

Now with the beasts, it's so different because, if you notice, despite having a problem, they don't try to change their ways. That's why most of them don't understand each other; their philosophy clashes greatly. Despite one of them claiming to be very close, in reality, each and every one of them feels so alone. It's undeniable how many people still believe they're close.

It's fascinating to see their parallels. It's good to know they're not close; it's complex and interesting. I want to add about episode 10 i feel outraged by the fact that no one talks about how complex ES's character was the last part of the episode made me cry because i know she only had one purpose when she was created and the fact that HB proposed to her to leave their garden and go with her was the most painful and touched me so much. (seriously my friends asked me if i was okay because i cried a lot LOL) everyone thinks it's an unrequited love, if it wasn't reciprocated HB wouldn't take the time to understand ES and explain to her that the world doesn't have to be perfect like she describes it. it's an episode with a queer tragedy explained in the hardest but sweetest way possible... And the game is from a country that litteraly is a sin to be like this or not good received as well.

Yeah definitely!! I've always loved the parallels between the Beasts and Ancients - not just individually, but as groups. While they both endured equally great suffering, in the end, the Beasts chose the easy way out. They chose darkness and despair. They chose to inflict their suffering onto others instead of properly addressing themselves and their shortcomings. And what's fascinating is that, for a time, the Ancients chose similarly: Golden Cheese succumbed to delusion and hid herself in a fantasy world in order to assuage her grief, Hollyberry abdicated and ran away from her family and her people and her life, drinking and fighting and partying her woes away, Dark Cacao built literal and figurative walls around himself and shut everyone out, Pure Vanilla was an amnesiac for a while, thus technically foregoing truth (albeit not necessarily by choice), then he allowed himself to be a Cookie of Deceit for a while, White Lily... we know what happened to her lol. But they managed to save themselves because they had each other. For each and every one of them, their salvation and enlightenment came when they remembered their bonds with each other and with others they care for. It was that sense of connection and community, which never ever broke despite everything that happened to them. And then opposite to them are the Beasts, who broke apart and descended into villainy because they themselves did not have those connections; not just in reference to them never having had the chance to live as normal people, but in reference to their bonds with each other specifically. I believe now more than ever that they never REALLY cared for each other. That they were never REALLY friends. If they were, why didn't they help each other when they started corrupting? Example, Burning Spice: I believe that what he needed the most was assurance that the cycle of change is not and does not need to be inherently painful or bleak. That there is good and meaning in that endless repetition. What would've helped was him having a constant in his life; someone or something that was always there with him even while everything and everyone else slipped away, as the cycle of change mandates. For all intents and purposes, the other Beasts should have been that constant; they're immortal too. They're gods too. They're his friends. They WERE his friends. Or... were they not? I don't really think so anymore. What the Ancients have together, the Beasts either had a very weak and fragile copy, or never really had at all. IF they were ever friends, they were pretty shitty ones lol. And that's a big part of why they corrupted, and why they're all so bitter and lonely: they each feel as though no one ever understood them or their struggles, not even their supposed "friends". Then these 5 thieves come along and inadvertently give them that lifeline, to which they all react differently (in how they express their attachment, I mean. They're all obsessed but they let it show differently and to different levels), but underneath those differences lies a shared feeling: "oh God, someone finally understands me, someone finally feels what I feel, I can't ever let them go, I need them". It's so horrendously sad and disturbing and darkly fascinating. I love it. I love these pairs, I love talking about them, I can do it forever

And I agree with you that Eternal Sugar is a complex and very interesting character, and I'm disappointed in the people that think otherwise (I hate saying this, but a lot of the complaints kind of sound like they're just butthurt that Eternalberry was canonized and they're looking for any excuse to tear the update down because of it). She seems to be a step above Mystic Flour in that she really, truly thinks she's doing something GOOD (MF behaves this way as well, but ES is legitimately delusional). She actually thinks she's helping people. Deep down, she DOES understand that she's a bad person and she's only hurting those she claims to care for, Hollyberry included, and this dialogue demonstrates such:

She seems to have succumbed to a form of insanity above that of other Beasts; she is still clinging to her old desires to carry out her godly duties and make people happy, but her perception of such has become so warped that she actually thinks things like keeping people in jars forever is making them happy. Furthermore, she purposefully orchestrates situations that "prove" her mindset and ideals correct (allowing people to leave the garden if they wish ("see? I'm not controlling! I'm not desperate! I'm not a dictator! You can leave, it's ok!"), but having them leave while smelling like the perfume that permeates the whole area so Beast-Yeast monsters are drawn to and attack them, thus forcing them back into the garden and further convincing them that it's a safe haven and they belong there). So much confirmation bias with Sugar, it's crazy. SHE is crazy. She is LEGITIMATELY crazy, a sort of crazy that the others aren't, not even Shadow Milk. It is delightfully awful. She is delightfully awful

And oh... Holly... Holly and Sugar... Passion and Sloth... Them...

One begs the other to stay... The other begs them to wake up and leave. Holly is now the second Ancient to fully, directly express understanding and sympathy towards their Beast. She's now the second to fully, directly state that she wants to be with their Beast.

She's HAPPY at the prospect of them being together. Of being two halves of a soul. She would GLADLY complete Sugar and let Sugar complete her... but Sugar has to wake up first. She has to see the error of her ways. She has to leave her garden. And Sugar agrees to this. She probably didn't really mean it, she was probably just swept up in the Yuri Wave and saying what she thought Holly wanted her to say, but even so. I think it's meaningful. Out of all the Beasts, I think Sugar has the best shot of being redeemed. And she has just the right Ancient to help her with such a thing. (Tbh I think they can all be fixed. Not easily, not right away, absolutely not. It would take time and effort and a lot of very painful conversations and realizations on everyone's part. But I think it can be done. Each of them has shown that one little seed of doubt, of regret, of disillusionment. Each one of them has faltered, if only for a moment. Because of that, I think somewhere deep down inside of them is someone worth saving. But that's just me haha) Beast x Ancient is 5 different, delicious flavors of a beautiful and compelling tragedy and they kill and resurrect me several times a day
