The Demon's Love | JJK | Snippet

"Today, the Celestial Council requested the meeting to treat the matter of the rebellious spirits. Angels, show your respect to the Demon King who will, since 30, 000 years, step once more in the Seventh Realm!"

All the angels bowed their heads for the entrance of the king of evil himself. Even you. A relatively young angel who stood at the very front of the line. You heard the sound of magic being performed, a dark mist appearing at your right peripheral but you obeyed your General and kept your gaze down.

A sudden coldness invaded the Celestial Council and a shiver ran up your spine. You could feel the tension in the large room. How the angels beside you stiffened at the presence of the Demon King, even your General, Jung Hoseok stood rigid with his large wings opened next to him, keeping him in the air.

You kept your gaze lowered, obeying orders. But curiosity was taking the best of you, you felt a sudden need to look up and put a face to the image of the Demon King himself.

Feared by the Seven Realms. A monster within humans. The enemy of fairies. The counterpart of angels. Death's close friend.

And then you looked up. Listening to that small voice. Falling into the string temptation of just looking.

Your eyes met the ones of the Demon King. His eyes, though big and perfectly shaped, had a darkness in them you let yourself get lost.

He was darkness.

He was perfection.

He was mysterious

The Demon King held himself with power. His large, black wings were moving behind him, keeping him suspended in the air.

You couldn't look away.

You found him intriguing.

Mesmerising.

Never in your life as an angel had you seen a creature like him. Never have you felt such a tug to fall into the dark rabbit hole.

He was the definition of dark perfection. His black robes hugged his lean figure, his hair was equally dark as the night sky and his eyes were something you had never seen before.

I finished Guardians of the Dafeng.

I'm still trying to collect my thoughts after episode 40 because not a single part of me expected any of the breaking into the imperial palace, violence towards the bad guys, shirking his teacher for what he believed was right, the beheading(s), accusing the emperor of wrongdoing. It was the determination to do what was right, to get vengeance for ZXH and the 380,000 innocent civilians, no matter the consequences to himself was just...whoa.

Whatever anyone feels about comedies is valid - I rarely go in for them myself and I know a lot of folks had big feelings about this being so silly upfront - but I truly think Wang Hedi absolutely nailed this role. He is obviously so, SO suited to comedic performances. It's his wheelhouse and happy place without a doubt. And he delivered so much humor in such a fresh and charming way (all the obvious bloopers they left in as the final scenes, the silly shenanigans with his other copper gongs, the family dynamic). But he also really shined in this big, poignant, heartbreaking moment too. The emotion in this scene reminded me so much of him grieving the loss of Xiao Lanhua in Love Between Fairy and Devil. He cries so hard and it's not pretty and it's not delicate, it's gutting. The emotions that he digs up from somewhere - the sheer agony and heartbreak that he shows to the world - really is astonishing for someone his age.

And seeing the BTS of both this scene (and the scene in LBFAD), you can tell he goes to a seriously brutal place because it takes him many moments and even many more hugs to come out of it.

The ending was definitely strange and open and definitely in anticipation of a second season but since that's always unlikely in cdramaland, I'll just count it as finished and an open ending is fine in this instance.

Watching Love Between Fairy and Devil should come with multiple warnings.

I recently finished watching the series and it’s my duty to warn you.

Side effects may include:

Putting your life (family, friends, work, paying bills) on hold to watch all episodes in 3 days

Feeling alone because no one you know has watched it and you only want to talk about the masterpiece that this series is

Obsessing over Dongfang Qingcang and subsequently over Dylan Wang

Wondering why men you know don’t have long, sleek, butt-length hair and wear majestic robes

Daydreaming about all the times Dongfang Qingcang pulled Xiao Lanhua close to him to kiss her

Searching all social media for BTS, interviews, Dylan and Esther singing and being cute together

Re-watching all the scenes where Dongfang Qingcang rolls his eyes, tilts his head, uses hellfire and has blue eyes because he is simply irresistible

Crying. Lots and lots of crying. And then when you think you are done crying, you’ll cry some more

Binging Meteor Garden pretending this is one of Dongfang Qingcang’s tribulations in modern world

Craving to write fanfiction with all the juicy details of their relationship, even if you have never written one before

Creating a dedicated Tumblr account with a silly name (like I don’t know, Moon’s Orchid?) though you watched it almost a year and a half after it was released and the fandom has half died. But you swear you’ll keep reposting all the awesome gif posts hoping for a miracle
