Random WOT question for you and your followes that I was thinking about today while cooking stir fry: where did Nynaeve learn to use chopsticks? Did she learn at the White Tower or did she just figure it out on the spot? Or are chopsticks a thing the Two Rivers and Mat's just an idiot?
my headcanon answer is that she learned in the borderlands (maybe in the scene with lan's malkieri family??? i don't remember what they're eating in that scene) and since mat didn't come to the borderlands in this turning of the wheel he's the only one of the ef5 who didn't pick up how to use them, but i'll throw this one out to the crowd, what do we think y'all???
#loveliestoftrees#i'm so sorry for taking so long to answer this one emily#but figured i'd dig this and your other ask from may out today for some wot wednesday posting#save wot#wheel of time#wot on prime#wot show#caitie answers

loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Loveliest of trees, the cherry now Is hung with bloom along the bough, And stands about the woodland ride Wearing white for Eastertide.
Now, of my threescore years and ten, Twenty will not come again, And take from seventy springs a score, It only leaves me fifty more.
And since to look at things in bloom Fifty springs are little room, About the woodlands I will go To see the cherry hung with snow.

Hi, new to the WOT fandom here! What are the production issues from season 1 that you keep referring to? Thanks!
I'm so glad you're wotching!!!!!!
So when amazon commissioned the show, they originally slated the first season to be 10 episodes. After the team had written the entire season's scripts, Amazon pushed them to do rewrites on certain things and shortened the episode count to 8.
The first episode was supposed to be two episodes, probably ending episode 1 with the start of the trolloc attack and then episode 2 would be them choosing to leave the two rivers and emond's field (their hometown), and they had to shorten that to 1 episode, so the pacing in the first episode ends up really wacky and fast. I'm pretty sad about this because part of what makes the first book effective is the contrast between the sleepy pleasant small town life in emond's field and how that peace is destroyed when the plot intrudes. And I think the change made it harder for new fans to attach themselves to the main gang properly.
They also, after amazon's rewrite requests, changed Perrin's early plot significantly. Originally he was going to accidentally kill his blacksmith master, Master Luhan, and after the rewrites he was given a wife who isn't in the books who gets fridged immediately. I guess amazon thought people would only understand the emotional significance of killing a lover and not a mentor. I really didn't like that choice when I first watched it, but I do think now they're going to do something interesting with the aftermath of the dead wife stuff in Perrin's s3 arc.
The shortened episode count also impacts the pacing of the end of the first season, which also got crunched together a bit. The end of the season also had further problems because covid happened, and the last two episodes were interrupted and had to be filmed after a hiatus and with new covid protocols in place, so the characters can't touch during some key scenes at the end. They had to rewrite the scene where Nynaeve and Egwene almost burn out during the battle of Tarwin's Gap on the day of shooting, and I think the scene is less effective as a result.
Also, one of the main actors was unable to return after lockdowns for possibly covid related health reasons, Barney who played Mat, so that's why it was changed and edited so that he doesn't come into the Ways with them in episode 6, and they also had to rewrite the last two episodes to accomodate his absence and then recast Mat for s2.
As a result of all this, episode 1, 7, and 8 in season one are all a little rough around the edges and a lot of book fans, including me, didn't really like the first season when it was airing. I like it more now upon rewatch now that I can see all the stuff they did manage to set up really well for the long haul of the story, but the first season had a difficult reception when it aired, and I think a lot of people let that less than stellar first impression color their opinion of the show as a whole. Which is unfortunate, because almost all* television shows improve as seasons go on and the team behind the show gets into the groove with it, and this one definitely improves each season.
Season 2 was written with the knowledge that it would only be 8 episodes, and they didn't have any interruptions during filming, so it's significantly better in its pacing.
#thanks for the ask!!!!! I'm glad you're wotching and I hope you have fun with the rest of it!!!!#Let me know what you think!!!!!!#loveliestoftrees#wheel of time#wot on prime#wot show#caitie answers#*the only shows i can think of that don't get better every season are got and the witcher HEY OH#edit: really good additional context about this in the reblogs!

What made you become a fan of Fighting Sioux hockey?
So my ask has been really messed up and this is probably pretty old. :| But it's an awesome question!!!
So I became a Sioux fan when I was watching hockey videos on youtube a couple years ago and, well, you know how the youtube hole goes. I somehow ended up watching this thing called Brad Miller Time, which is like a mini youtube internet show that a couple former Sioux players, Brad Miller and Ryan Martens, started three? years ago. And it was hilarious and I loved it. And then I watched every BMT that I could. And then I was like, "These Sioux guys are pretty funny. Let's go learn more about them. Oh hey this is where Toews used to play! I forgot about that! Oh hey all these NHL guys that I kinda like that are all former Sioux players."
Then I started listening to games and watching if they were ever on my tv and it was great. Now I can't really put my finger on why I'm a fan of Fighting Sioux hockey. I just am. These guys on this team are so good and talented and dedicated. Especially this past season. They absolutely battled it our and overcame so much adversity with dressing 17 guys usually and a bunch of injuries and just overcoming everything that comes with being a young team. You look at this year's seniors- Brad Eidsness, Mario Lamoureux and Ben Blood, these were the guys I first started listening to when I was becoming a fan. I kind of feel like I "grew up" with these guys and Ben is just ugh. I love Benny. Spirit Animal. Gonna miss him a lot.
Also- Sioux fans are pretty fucking awesome if I may say so myself. That also helped me become more of a fan.
And now here's Brad Miller almost getting a second pie to the face.

The future of women's hockey at the Olympics
The short answer to your question is: yes, it's true that women's hockey could be cut from the Olympics if it doesn't become more competitive.
On February 25th, 2010, the day of Gold Medal Game in women’s hockey, International Olympic Committee President, Jacques Rogge, said that women's hockey “cannot continue [to be in the Olympics] without improvement.” Rogge suggested that he, personally, would like to give women’s hockey more time to grow and that this may be an “investment period.”
Rogge's comment seems to have motivated the IIHF and some of the more successful hockey federations into taking action towards improving the level of play in counties where women's hockey is still in the developing stages.
For example, in late 2010, the IIHF appointed a “manager” of women’s hockey; someone to oversee the development globally. This is a new position.
Additionally, the IIHF created an ambassador/mentorship program. This program pairs up coaches and players from the top 4 countries with coaches and players in the “2nd tier.”
It's already been confirmed that women's hockey will be included in the 2014 Olympics, but I honestly don't know what will happen after that. It depends in part on how the tournament goes. My guess (and that’s all it is: a guess), is that women’s hockey will still be a part of the Olympics in 2018 (unless 2014 proves to be especially non-competitive) and after that, we’ll hopefully start to see some other countries (like Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, etc.) have some success against the US and Canada (...overall for women’s hockey, it’d be a good thing, but the thought of Canada losing to anyone still bothers me).
Just a note about the “lack of competition” in women’s hockey... in all four of the Olympic Games that included women’s hockey, the results were different (gold-silver-bronze):
1998: USA-Canada-Finland
2002: Canada-USA-Sweden
2006: Canada-Sweden-USA
2010: Canada-USA-Finland
Yes, it’s only four different countries, but the order is different every time and, most significantly, Sweden won the silver medal in 2006! Everyone seems to forget that.
Hopefully, with the action that's been taken, women's hockey will have a bright future.

My 8 year old boy cousins favorite gift was a “rainbow loom” that’s mainly marketed to little girls
I'm glad he got one then! Kids have way more diverse interests than the color-coded 'gendered' toys and I think gift-buyers go the easy way of just assuming that's what they want -_-

Such a tragedy :(
Haha, yes. But I've managed to rescue it a bit by dumping chocolate syrup on it! Not as good as other B&J flavors or a pistachio Magnum Bar though.

how do you get your skin so flawless? is it just the makeup you use or some product or just natural?
my skin in general isn't horrible, i just have some redness and a little bit of yellowy-green tones in other spots plus some blemishes. i just use the covergirl cg smoother foundation which is actually pretty light and a little bit of concealer. the powder i use changes a lot, but today i used the color stay pressed powder (by revlon i think???).it doesn't really stay all day because i have oily skin, but it starts out looking nice! thank you for thinking so! hahhha :)
