This picture is an illustration for “The Long Road Home” written and submitted to our William S Burroughs birthday spectacular episode by @after_dark_creations_ of @horrorgasmsd fame- so you know you’re in for some freaky fun this February 5th when it debutes! Posted @withregram • @midnight_epiphyllum Got motivated last night to bust out another piece for the upcoming William S Burroughs tribute podcast on @u_mind_pod / @creeping_wave_radio airing this February 5th. This particular piece is based on the surreal short story of one fabulous Jennifer Cooksey @after_dark_creations_ . I used the visually surreal and spontaneous writings of this local author to create a custom painting in a way that would make you curious about what goes on.... I used a play of masking fluid and super saturated watercolor washes, mixed with hints and highlights of acrylic, and then inked with different India ink pens on Arches hot press watercolor paper to create the scene for our viewers...Come and experience the surreal adventures of the tired passengers of this red 1964 Ford Fairlane. What will the red roads of the dark desert reveal to them? Another sparkling submission from @midnight_epiphyllum to our William S. Burroughs birthday spectacular episode coming this February 5th! Posted @withregram • @midnight_epiphyllum It was Old Scratch’s birthday the other day, so once I finished my previous piece, I thought I’d try my hand at capturing the handsome devil on paper. I worked with @lucid_nap to find good reference images based on the character’s design and to see about bringing the devil to life in a variety of scenarios. Based on one story provided to me, Lucid describes him: “Old Scratch, the mercurial collector of souls, enjoys a cigar as he contemplates how to best acquire new acquisitions for his menagerie.” I made this piece similar in technique to the previous piece of Josie. I used layers of watercolor, acrylic, metallic tin acrylic, faux gold leaf, gloss medium, and pen on Arches hot press watercolor paper. In the depths of his dark parlor, Old Scratch enjoys his cigar, not knowing that trouble is coming his way... Wonder what Old Scratch is up to in the next story? What does he contemplate while he enjoys his cigar? What fresh adventure and trouble is Napoleon Doom in store for? I meant to do this moment in the story a week ago, but got sidetracked by my previous idea. No matter! I decided to do this one today for fun and keep it loose in style, but sort of surreal and dark. I used watercolor, acrylic, gloss medium, fluorescent pink acrylic, faux gold leaf, and pen on Arches hot press watercolor paper. It’s a little difficult to take a decent picture of due to parts of the picture being glazed in gloss medium and metallic leaf, but here it is. The title of this piece is “She Can Read Your Thoughts You Know...”, a direct quote taken from Lucid’s story..... but what is happening here? Why is that shimmering gold and blue liquid dripping down her? Why do those eyes peer into my soul? Why do I feel I’m in trouble but somehow aroused?
