last forever [6/13]
Summary: Zoro only offered to marry you to keep you out of an arranged marriage with a man much older than you. You agreed with the caveat of ending it via annulment once you received word from your parents regarding the original engagement, despite your growing feelings for your close friend.
Pairing: Zoro x Fem!reader, mentioned Sanami later (like epilogue later so chill)
Warnings: Marriage of Convenience, Fake Marriage, referenced sex (waaaaaay later on), mutual pining, Zoro is bad at feelings but what's new there, eventual romance I promise, mention of past attempted assault (I'll warn in that chapter), creepy older dude later on
Note: This got away from me, it's over 6k words, I'm so sorry. But, here's Robin and a bit of development between our lovely couple, I suppose. I do love Zoro, I promise.

[Ch. 1] ● [Ch. 2] ● [Ch. 3] ● [Ch. 4] ● [Ch. 5]
“Looks like we've shaken them.”
A round of whines from your crewmates is heard, making you smile slightly.
You guys should be happy.”
Another whine, this time making you giggle while Zoro stares at everyone else.
“Stop that. What's wrong with you all?”
“I miss her!!”
Leaving Alabasta the way you did, barely able to say goodbye to Vivi and Karoo, with her decision to stay in the kingdom rather than join you all at sea, it was rough. You missed her greatly too, but understood her choice and accepted it. You still had Nami, at the very least it wasn't just you and a bunch of boys.
“If you wanted her to stay, you should've taken her by force!”
Hearing the insults everyone throws towards Zoro makes you laugh, even as he looks up at you on the upper deck in annoyance. You wave with a smile still on your face before he looks away. Strangely, things haven't changed much between you since he told you nothing romantic would be happening. Sometimes you feel an ache in your chest when you look at him, thinking about it, but you've come to accept Zoro probably would never take back what he said or try to court you. Once you had some kind of response from your parents, you two would sign your annulment papers and move on, living as crewmates instead of faking being husband and wife for your safety.
“I do agree with Zoro, you guys,” your smile softens as everyone looks up at you in surprise, “I love Vivi too, but if we wanted her to come along, we should've just kidnapped her.”
“[Y/N]!”
“Of course, that would've made us worse criminals,” jumping down from the upper deck, you stand beside Zoro with your arms crossed, “so it's better we let Vivi stay like she decided to. We'll see her again.”
While the rest of the crew agrees with you, Zoro is surprised you're being so agreeable with him after your discussion the other night.
Well ‘discussion’ is putting it lightly and in more positive terms. Sanji confronted him the next morning and mentioned how you'd ended up in tears over what Zoro said to you, making your temporary husband feel bad for a bit. He hadn't meant to make you cry, he was just telling you the truth. Romance was the farthest thing from his mind, it shouldn't even be in yours right now. There are too many other things to worry about, your goals and helping Luffy become King of the Pirates were the main ones. Helping everyone else with theirs was secondary, romance or anything like that was so far out of his mind, he never thought of it being a thing he'd have to worry about.
When he looks at you, all you do is smile, before Zoro shakes his head to move on and get those thoughts that you're still upset out of his head. You probably are, but it's not something to worry about right now.
“Looks like we finally escaped the firing squad.”
“Yeah, finally.”
“Excellent work, swordsman.”
The newest voice makes you all freeze in shock before everyone starts to freak out. Your hand is on your sword but Zoro is in front of you before anything happens, the rest of your crew moving into position against the dark haired woman on board. You barely recognize her as Crocodile's partner Ms. All Sunday, and you're curious about her reasons for being on your ship.
While Sanji swoons over her, Nami and Chopper start to hide behind you behind Zoro, Usopp is shouting warnings, and Luffy is shouting questions, Nico Robin does little more than smile, before saying she wants to join the crew, giving her reason being that Luffy saved her life back in Alabasta.
“I was determined to die, and you saved my life. That's your crime. So I decided I would join you.”
“Well,” Luffy nods and crosses his arms, “Guess it can't be helped. Welcome aboard!”
“Luffy!!”
The next little while is spent with everyone quickly changing their minds about Robin, for the most part. Usopp interrogates her but still believes her to be dangerous, until she pulls a trick with her Devil Fruit powers making him, Luffy, and Chopper burst out laughing. Sanji is smitten simply due to her being a woman, and Robin handing over a bag of jewels to Nami has them in each other's good graces.
Zoro intends to hold out, he's not going to trust her so easily when she was out to get you all until just a few minutes ago. He halfway expects you to do the same, though he doesn't expect the next exchange between you and Luffy a few moments later, once everyone has settled and you're able to pull your captain aside.
“Luffy,” you stay quiet, only he and Zoro can really hear you while Sanji continues to fawn over Robin as Usopp and Chopper ask her to show more of her powers, “Do you really trust her? I mean…she did work with Crocodile.”
Luffy gives you a bright grin and nod, which you return slightly. “Yeah, it's fine! She's not a bad person! You can tell too, can't you?”
“Mm.” You nod, deciding to trust in Luffy and his decision. You climb up on the railing beside him, taking the extra fishing rod to help him get something for dinner. “I'll trust you then, Luffy.”
“Great! Now let's get something good for Sanji to cook for dinner!”
“Haha, right.”
No, you don't miss how Zoro doesn't say anything, instead turning away from you and Luffy, avoiding Robin as she attempts to speak to him before looking at Luffy and asking if he'd gotten any bites yet. She was trying to fit in with you all, Luffy trusted her and she seemed to trust him. You're willing to give her a chance, even if Zoro isn't.
You're sure there's going to be a discussion about this later, and you definitely aren't looking forward to it.
+!+
“You can't be serious that you trust her.”
“Zoro,” you sigh and shake your head, rubbing your forehead a bit. Your head is starting to ache at the thought of a possible argument, “I didn't say I trust her.”
“Oh, and what's your reasoning for not being skeptical? She was our enemy not even three days ago!”
“I get that…but it sounds like she trusts Luffy.”
Zoro sighs heavily and shakes his head at you this time. He's not sure what to do with you, he doesn't want to fight with you about this, but it seems to be the way it's going to go.
He just doesn't trust Robin and doesn't get why you, who seemed to have worse trust issues than he did, ever would.
“And when she betrays us?”
“She won't, Zoro.”
“You don't know that! She could be using Luffy saving her as an excuse to get information and take it to the government or another pirate crew!”
“Oh good lord,” You're nearly glaring at Zoro while he almost snarls at you over the situation, “you are the most untrusting, stubborn man I've ever met! I don't trust her yet, who I trust is Luffy!”
“Luffy doesn't know what he's doing with her! She said something she knew he'd like to hear, she's not safe!”
“Luffy is our captain!” You didn't know your voice could get this loud, nor did you think Zoro's ever would. The rest of the crew must be getting one hell of a show if they could hear you from the storeroom right now. Though, if they could, you're certain Sanji would have run in to defend you and Robin by now.
“What does that have to do with this?!”
“He makes the decisions! If he thinks Robin is safe, I'll trust Luffy!”
“You're being as much of an idiot as our captain is!”
No, he doesn't really mean it, but Zoro wants to get his point across. You should be cautious, wary of this new person who, yes, was your enemy just a few days ago. You get that, you really do, but if Luffy thinks she's a good person, then…
“Yeah, sure! I'm an idiot because I trust our captain's choice!”
“Yes you are!”
“And you're a stubborn, untrusting dumbass!”
Well you've never called him such a name before, and that's more surprising to Zoro than anything that's happened today. You've both said too many things, probably things you don't mean, but it's enough now that he's done with it all. Done with yelling or trying to talk to you about it. He knows you won't listen, you'll both just end up trading insults and he doesn't want that anymore than you do.
So instead, Zoro pushes past you to leave, stopping briefly for one more thing.
“I want those papers later. We don't need to wait on your parents anymore.”
Zoro doesn't let you respond before he's heading back up the stairs, Luffy calling him for something that he's more than willing to do if it means being away from you for now.
You, however, do feel bad for the names you called him, and wish you had stopped him quickly enough to apologize. Had you been able to properly get your words out, maybe Zoro would have listened instead of fighting with you about Robin's recruitment. Instead you both let your emotions take over, said things you didn't mean, and now he was wanting the annulment papers.
Way to go, [Y/N]. You're getting an annulment and probably losing your closest friend.
+!+
Robin finds you with the logbook a couple days later, while everyone else is off the ship checking out the latest island you've docked at. She's not that surprised that you're the one who's keeping track of your adventure, you just seemed like the right person to write out everything that happened. If it wasn't you, she would've expected Nami to be keeping track.
“Anything interesting to record, Miss Logkeep?”
Humming a bit, you nod and finish the sentence you were writing, leaning back as Robin sits across from you. You're still recording all the events of Alabasta, trying to find the words to put everyone's perspective into the log appropriately. Making sure you had all the information meant having to speak with everyone, and with you and Zoro at odds for the moment, it felt like somethings were missing, and you likely weren't going to get anything from him until you two made up somehow.
You haven't taken your annulment papers to him, he hasn't asked again since your argument. Honestly you hope he's forgotten and will let things be until you hear from your parents or he changes his mind entirely. Maybe it's useless to hope for that, but until he asked for them again, you're going to hold onto that hope.
“Yeah, trying to finish Alabasta but…”
“Need someone else's side?”
“Mm…” You nod again, and Robin gives you a smile.
She had heard the argument you and Zoro had, so she knew very well that you two weren't really speaking. Even though it was due to her presence, she didn't say anything to let on that she knew, instead deciding to keep that to herself to see where things went with the two of you. It sounded like you were extremely close, and she'd like to see what your relationship with Zoro really was like.
“Forgive me if I'm prying, but are you and the swordsman close?”
You bite your lip a bit, wondering if you really should trust her with such information. It's not like you have to reveal your temporary marriage to Robin, Zoro would likely demand the papers again and actually sign them this time if you did so. After a moment of back and forth with yourself, you sigh and nod, closing the log with your bookmark in place.
“Yeah, we traveled together before we met Luffy. About eighteen months, I think.”
While you start to relay your story of how you met Zoro, met Luffy, and came to suddenly be a pirate, Robin just smiles and listens to you. Though you and Zoro aren't speaking much right now, you seem happy to be talking about him, like there's something there that even Robin is missing. She's not sure yet, if you have feelings for him, but the smile on your face and the slight blush you seem to have tells her she's on the right track.
“He's saved me from drowning, you know.”
“Has he now?”
You nod again, still smiling. “Not since before we joined Luffy, but a few times. My parents didn't teach me how to swim, Zoro's tried a few times,” you laugh and look at Robin, “I'm not very good!”
Robin laughs with you and gives you a smile. “Sounds like you really like him.”
She has you figured out, Robin thinks, while you blush a little and smile slightly before nodding. You simply have a crush on Zoro, and it seems he doesn't reciprocate it right now. That might change, because she has seen how protective of you Zoro is, having witnessed it first hand when she showed herself on Merry and he was in front of you almost instantly. Although she doesn't yet know all the details of your relationship, she's keen to see what happens.
When Sanji calls you all for dinner, Robin watches you and Zoro. You may not be talking to each other, but you still stay close, seated by each other without much thought, though you don't say anything to Zoro nor does he to you.
Robin knows you two will make up somehow, eventually. It seems as though you've been through far too much together to let one fight come between you.
And if you all do make it to the sky island, there might be a decent chance of seeing how well you two work together in battle.
+!+
“Come on, it's not water.”
You stare at Zoro from the Merry's deck, unsure if you believe him enough to jump down and join your crew. Finally arriving at Skypiea was a weight off and on your shoulders, with how thin the air was you felt like you couldn't breathe at first. Once you were used to that, you thought you were away from the water enough that you didn't need to worry about drowning, until watching Usopp nearly drown to death in the endless cloud sea.
Even with seeing Luffy, Chopper, and Robin freely walk through the clouds without any effects, you still weren't sure about it. Of course, you had no real fear of the water, you'd be a terrible pirate if you did.
However, knowing your inability to swim, you try to be careful on the ship, and not knowing how the Sky Island was, you were more worried than anything, even with Zoro trying to coax you off the ship and say you'd be safe.
You two have barely spoken since your argument about Robin joining the crew, so seeing him try to help you is a surprise. You're both stubborn but Zoro more so than you, which is what led to you spending more time with Robin and getting to know her, trusting her and knowing that she's no longer a threat.
Zoro's not at all impressed with you and how you've avoided speaking to him lately, but leaving you on the ship was not happening in his mind, not when everyone else had left and others were even calling for you. Luffy shouting for you to hurry up, Nami promising it was safe and you wouldn't drown, and even Sanji calling for you and saying he'd found something for you (likely the same flower you'd seen him give Nami and Robin, but it was a sweet gesture).
After another moment watching you debate, Zoro sighs and sticks a hand out to you, making you tilt your head.
“I won't let you fall. You know that.”
He's right, so you finally decide to go with your friends. Stepping onto and jumping off the railing with your shoes in one hand, the other grabbing Zoro's so he pulls you to him and keeps you from hitting the ground immediately, his other arm around your waist to help with that.
“Told ya.” Zoro sets you down and lets go of you once he sees you're stable, turning to follow after the rest of the crew before you grab his arm and stop him. “What?”
“I’m…sorry, thank you.”
“The hell you sorry about?”
“Not talking to you, calling you a dumbass, and fighting with you about Robin. I…we can…sign the papers later…”
Oh, that's what it was. Zoro wondered for a few days why you hadn't said anything to him about your marriage or your fight, he thought you'd just bring the papers to him later and say you wanted the annulment, not worrying about whatever your parents may think. He would've signed them if you did, but hearing the way you spoke just now, the slightest bit of concern and maybe sadness in your voice, it makes him shake his head in response.
“No, just…just leave it alone for now,” Zoro sighs but places his hand on your shoulder, moving you to walk in front of him, “Let's just join the others.”
Nodding, you don't miss how Zoro slightly squeezes your shoulder, before moving to keep his hand on your back and guide you, likely so you knew he wasn't letting you go so you wouldn't fall. It's a strange but kind gesture, even after he'd told you that he didn't have feelings for you and you two weren't going to be a couple.
Part of you wonders if he's lying, whether to you or himself, you're not sure yet though.
+!+
With all the trouble that Skypiea has brought you all, a night of rest and drinking was greatly needed, in your opinion. You'd all split off the next day to search for the city of gold and make your way to the end of sky island, but for now, you'll indulge in some drinks and laughs with your friends.
While he's still busy making food and handing it out, Sanji does, at one point, notice you grab a couple drinks and almost run back over to Zoro to give him one, before you go back to Nami and Robin nearby. How strange you two still are, in his eyes. You fight to the point of silent treatment, then start speaking again just earlier that day, and you're back to your usual self, bringing the mosshead things whether he asks or not. You're far too kind to Zoro, he doesn't deserve you, even though Sanji knows and understands the two of you aren't together. You do too much for him with nothing in return.
Although, rarely, Sanji has noticed that sometimes, it's Zoro who brings things to you in return. You've asked for a book once, something to drink a few times, and more recently had voiced your want for a snack, and were surprised by it a bit later when Sanji brought it to you.
“I…didn't even come ask you yet.”
Sanji shakes his head, scowling slightly before saying “Mosshead came and told me you wanted something to eat. Said I should just bring it right to you.”
You're surprised, mostly because you and Zoro haven't been speaking since your argument the other day.
“I…see…”
The blond knows of your fight, you'd gone to him shortly after and maybe you cried a little while telling him everything, but Sanji's of the belief you two must've made up if Zoro came and asked him to bring you something.
“Guess you guys made up then.”
“No…” this time you shake your head, accepting the small plate of food from Sanji with a slight smile, “We haven't…but this was sweet of him.”
Sanji was surprised at that, but now, he's more annoyed than anything. While you talk and laugh with Nami and Robin, Zoro stays where you left him, every now and then, Sanji catches him watching you. He's probably drunk, that's the only reason Sanji can think of to explain the look Zoro has on his face. It's something soft and almost faraway, like he's thinking too much about something. It only stops when you look over and smile at him, like you had back in Cocoyashi Village, making Zoro look away quickly and down the last of his drink.
There's something there, Sanji knows there is.
He's just not sure what it is yet.
+!+
Robin fully believes she knows what it is between you and Zoro, after watching you two the next day. You'd gone with her to search for the city of gold, Zoro not thinking that was a smart idea but you convinced him you'd be fine and he relented. He didn't want to have another argument leading into a silent treatment event happen. Seeing you without Zoro around, you seemed extremely interested in whatever history Robin told you. You chose to tell Robin about your situation with your family, explaining up to your meeting Zoro and leaving off your current marriage to him. You'd tell her one day, maybe once you'd come to know her more and trust her fully. Robin, though, knows there's something missing from your story. She can see it in your eyes, but she can't see exactly what it is.
What she does see happens when Eneru is nearly about to electrocute the five of you standing before him, Nami hiding behind a bit of debris. Once again Zoro has placed you behind him, and Robin can hear him quietly telling you to go to Nami, which you deny.
“I'm not going anywhere, I'm going to help you.”
Zoro's trying so hard to get you to safety that he nearly misses Eneru targeting Robin, only really noticing when you'd pushed away from him and ran to her, only to be hit with Eneru's attack after you'd shoved her out of the way.
“[Y/N]!!”
Robin's by your side and making sure you're still breathing, relief washing over her when she sees you've just been knocked out. She's more surprised at your actions and how Zoro's sending the worst glare she's ever seen towards Eneru, placing himself between the three of you.
“Don't you dare touch her again.”
“She's likely dead now so that won't be a problem.”
Eneru’s comment nearly pushes Zoro over the edge before Robin calls him.
“Swordsman, calm down! She's still breathing!”
“Doesn't matter! He shouldn't…she shouldn't have…”
Watching Zoro fight for his words and grip his swords tighter, it makes Robin realize she just might be right.
She believes it more so when you all have defeated Eneru, and are recuperating afterwards during a celebration with the Skypieans and Shandorians. Zoro had stayed by your side most of the time, constantly checking to make sure you were alright despite his injuries being worse. You barely seemed to notice, but Robin definitely did. Eventually she sees the same thing Sanji had the night before. You'd gone off with Nami once again, but also Luffy, Chopper, and Aisa this time, the five of you playing some game the little Shandorian girl had come up with, and Robin sees Zoro watching you all, but mostly you. She sees his eyes soften just a bit, the slightest smile on his face while he watches you laugh, especially when Luffy tosses Aisa to you and you catch her, making her squeal in laughter as well. This was the most peaceful she'd seen Zoro yet, and it was all because of you it seems.
How sweet.
You two are the last to wake the next morning, before your abrupt departure, and Robin is sure her hunch is right seeing you snuggled up close to Zoro with one of his arms around you before Sanji kicks Zoro to wake him up. Of course this causes an argument as soon as Zoro is up and in Sanji's face, you barely awake and rubbing your eyes to figure out what's happening.
“What the hell, I was sleeping.”
“You and the swordsman were,” Robin starts to smile while your eyes widen and you feel a blush creeping onto your cheeks, “but we need to get going soon.”
“R-Right… did um… anyone–”
“Yeah you were really cozy with Zoro all night.” Nami grins and you have to hide your face in your hands, Zoro and Sanji still shouting at each other while Usopp, Luffy, and Chopper are gathering their things like it's a game.
Once you all do take off, as you're running to leave, you nearly trip over the ground to the point Zoro grabs you like the sack of gold everyone has and throws you over his shoulder.
“Wait, Zoro!! Put me down!!” You pound on his back a bit before he adjusts you over his shoulder better.
“Not if you're gonna trip like that!”
You don't even bother to fight him and just hang there the rest of the way to Merry, Zoro finally putting you down once you all get there, Robin hears the quietest apology from him while you shake your head and move to help get everything ready to go.
They're very interesting, those two…maybe he does actually like her.
+!+
Landing back in the sea did not go as planned for you. Your air filled octopus balloon friend let you down easily for the most part, until he suddenly ran out of air and the Merry was being quickly dropped into the water. You grabbed as tightly to the railing as you could while everyone else did the same, or grabbed each other in the case of Luffy, Usopp and Chopper, and Sanji not at all complaining as Nami latched onto him. The splash down flooded the deck with water, but once it drained enough, Merry settled and you were back as close to solid ground as possible.
“Everyone good?!” Luffy shouts a bit, Usopp and Chopper still holding onto him while most everyone states they're fine. He furrows his brow when he doesn't hear your voice or see you. “Where's [Y/N]?”
“Did she get swept out when the water drained?!” Nami feels panic seep into her bones while she looks for you in the water.
The second Nami's question reaches him, Zoro is in the water on the side of the ship you'd been on, making what felt like the millionth rescue from water he'd done in his life, most of them being for you due to your inability to swim. The first time it happened you'd been pushed in by one of your bounty targets before Zoro struck them down, quick enough that he was able to reach in and pull you out by your shirt collar like a cat by the scruff of its neck while you flailed about. You didn't eat a Devil Fruit, your parents simply never taught you to swim. Your brother attempted to, but only for so long before your parents heard and barred you from doing so. A lady didn't need to know how to swim, your mother tried to reason with you.
Zoro's able to reach you in time before you get too far down in the sea, grabbing you by the waist and pulling you upwards, surfacing not even a minute after he'd jumped in, making you gasp for air and cling tightly to him, almost suffocating your constant savior while you spit up water from your lungs.
“Zoro's got [Y/N]!! Let the ladder down!”
You hated this, hated needing to be saved anytime you ended up in the water. It's become so much that you aren't sure if you really are crying while you grip onto Zoro, or if it's just water dripping down your face, despite how hard you're biting your lip and tightening your hold on him. It's not like you had a good excuse, not like those who had eaten Devil Fruits.
Zoro puts an arm around your shoulders and stops for just a second once he gets the both of you to the ladder before starting to climb up.
“Hey,” you almost miss him speaking to you, even once he starts trying to soothe you by rubbing your back, “I've got you. You're all right.”
He's quiet while he speaks to you, whispering reassurances that all is well, you're okay, he's not going to let you go until you're on the deck again. You're alive, he's saved you again, kept you from drowning like he has Chopper and Luffy in the past. Like he always has.
Sometimes it feels like all you do is take and take and take from Zoro, from all of them. You wonder sometimes if your parents were right, when they said you were nothing more than a greedy child still, always taking but never giving back. Despite the fact you do your fair share on the ship, in battles, it feels like you shouldn't be here.
Once you're back on the deck, you still don't let go of Zoro, even when he tells you to at least loosen your grip before you choke him to death. You do, at the very least, release your grip on his shoulders and instead hide your face in his shirt, trying to keep your worried crewmates from realizing you are crying after all. Zoro simply holds your head in place, even with Luffy and Usopp trying to check you over while Chopper runs to get his bag and help you. Sanji is quickly throwing his suit jacket around you and trying to get Luffy and Usopp away so they don't cause you more distress, while Robin suggests bringing you to your bed, and Nami's run off to your room to get dry, warm clothes for you. Despite the slight distrust he still feels for Robin, Zoro nods at her suggestion, bringing Sanji's jacket around you a bit more before lifting you up in his arms, knowing you weren't letting him go anytime soon. You don't let go, not even for a second, until you're in your room and Zoro has laid you on your bed, telling you to wait for Chopper to get there while he tries to leave and change into dry clothes himself. He's stopped only by you grabbing his wrist, wanting him to stay, before Zoro promises he'll come right back. You only let go after that, giving a slight nod when he turns to leave you to change clothes yourself.
“Zoro?”
He's almost out of the room before you stop him, making him look over his shoulder to you.
“Thank you…again.”
He shakes his head, telling you not to mention it.
“I'll always save you if you need it, wife.”
+!+
You're struck with a nasty fever and congested cough the next day, blaming it on the unexpected swim you'd taken and the slightly colder area you were in. Chopper's given you all the medicine you can take for now, to try and bring your fever down, the rest was up to your own body to fight it off. Your crewmates were kind enough to take turns watching you, as you all had done when Nami was ill before you brought Chopper on board. She and Zoro are the ones to spend the most time watching you; Luffy tries to cheer you up with jokes, Usopp tells you more of his tall tales, Robin has taken to reading to you from a book she'd let you borrow, Sanji is mostly quiet so you can sleep, and Chopper is in and out checking on you and seeing if your fever has reduced any. Nami is almost as quiet as Sanji, working on a map while you rest.
Then Zoro.
He continues to reassure you that everything is OK, not constantly while he's there but he can tell, when you trail off in your sentences and look away from him, that you feel bad about something. He's not sure what, but he tells you everything is alright, you're alive and you made it out of a fight against a false god and a near drowning.
“‘M sorry you have to watch me…instead of doing your training.”
If he'd been any closer to sleep, Zoro would've missed what you said entirely. Luckily for you, he's awake enough to raise an eyebrow and shake his head.
“Don't worry about it. It's what crewmates do.”
It's what a husband does too…
“I feel like all I do is take from you…”
You don't look at him, finding your ceiling more interesting as you look over the wood pattern to avoid his eyes. You know he'll try to reassure you again, Zoro was good at that, despite his indifference to your pretend marriage. He'd never made you feel like you were a burden or less than, even if you really did mostly take and rarely give in return.
Zoro's not even sure why he always tries to make you realize things are okay, that you haven't done anything wrong. He knows about your parents acting like you should be seen and not heard, such a crappy thing to do to your own child in his opinion. Your parents were well off, they’d give to you and your brother constantly, then make you feel like you were selfish for not returning the “favor” by marrying who they chose for you. They really seemed to embody the “not every parent deserves a child” belief.
Thank God you had someone who cared for you though.
Before even saying a word in response, Zoro quietly takes hold of your free hand, letting you lace your fingers with his and making you look him in the eye again.
“Take all you want, I'll give you what I can. You can return it another time, all right?”
You want to cry, as Zoro strokes your hand with his thumb, and you nod a bit, swallowing down the tears before they can start. The things he does to you, even after telling you he isn’t here for romance. The way he acts, the way he treats you, it really makes you want to believe he’s lying to himself, lying to you to keep up his image. It gives you the slightest bit of hope that things could change one day.
“O-okay…”
We're not a couple…I don't know why you put up with me…
Once your fever is past, you're back to your normal routine of helping out wherever possible on the ship, spending your free time in the kitchen with Sanji, helping Nami with a map, or staying near Zoro while he goes back to training. He doesn't mind if you quietly sit near him, whatever book you've borrowed from Robin in your lap. It feels almost domestic to him, and Zoro has to brush that thought away quickly, lest he start fantasizing about keeping you as his wife. He stops any random thoughts of you two sharing a bed permanently, of taking you out somewhere on the next island for a date, or convincing you to stay up with him during his night watch, just to talk about your relationship and future. No, those thoughts can't be entertained, not now at least, he can't be distracted by such frivolous feelings like wanting to hold your hand all of sudden, or expecting a good morning hug or whatever. Romance isn't in his plans, it's not on his radar. You being his wife isn't supposed to be permanent.
Still though, a thought lingers despite his pushing the others out, when Zoro catches you dozing off in the corner, still fatigued from your body fighting off that fever.
Would it really be so bad to stay married to her?
He's not sure, even as he sets his weight back in place, wiping away any sweat he can and putting on a shirt before settling himself next to you, gently leaning you against him as you sleep. You stir a bit but he quickly quiets you.
“Just me. Go back to sleep.”
“Mm…’kay…”
Despite the scent of steel and sweat, you snuggle closer to Zoro, him wrapping an arm around your shoulders to keep you still. He lays his head on top of yours, closing his eyes and letting those thoughts come back, not stopping a single one this time.
Thoughts of a possible future where you two stay married and act like it, where you treat each other as husband and wife, where you've both reached your goals, where you're settled down somewhere safe enough to have a child or two perhaps.
Thoughts Zoro never once imagined entertaining, but now they take over his dreams to the point he's started changing his mind.
Maybe not so bad.

No one loses ㅡ ༝ ˚ 。⋆ 𓇼 ⋆。 ˚ ༝
[] - You make Sanji jealous with the help of Zoro
𓇼afab!reader, she/her
! - Toxic relationship, hard language, sanji angst, soft nsfw and implied harsh nsfw
so ive realized how many ppl dont add the fact that sanji is a player when writing stuff about him, so i wanted to write smth based on it, i rlly like the start, enjoy :) if this get enough love ill write a second part :o
You knew what you were getting your ass into. You just didn't expected for it to be so bad from time to time.
You've been dating Sanji for a little longer than 3 months know, but knew him for years. You knew about his issues when it came to women. The fact that he would become a total dumbass, blindfolded, stupid ass man the second a woman appeared in his sight.
You knew that, but you also knew you really loved him, he would make you really happy, you loved the way he was such a gentleman, how he kept himself motivated despite his tragic past and every single little detail about his personality and looks that made him unique.
He also loved you deeply, more than any other woman, he thinks you're the prettiest and best woman out there. But that doesn't stop him to go back to his brainless self in front of women every now and then. You would usually just scold him a little, touch him or just talk to him and he would remember that he was taken and that he had to control his ass.
But not that night, you didn't even recognized him.
Once the Straw Hats became popular, a good amount of pirates and even just random people became "fanatics" of you. Fanatics of Sanji as well.
That blonde cook was good looking, with a deep sensual voice mixed with his height and his ability to cook, enough to make any woman fall over heels to him. Now that his popularity grew, women would even let slide when he was borderline a pervert just to get close to the straw hats or being able to fuck anyone that was part of the crew.
You were at a fancy bar, taking a lil rest from the piracy. Each one of the Straw Hats had a small group of people come around them as they entered the place and each one of them got rid of them in their own way.
Zoro ignored women until they grew tired, Nami stole every single men's wallet, Robin freaked them out with her hands, Luffy acted like Luffy, Usopp told a few lies so obvious that women realized it and you insulted any guy that approached you.
But Sanji? Oh, no. He totally forgot the fact that he was in a relationship the second more than 3 women surrounded him. Flirting with them, telling them that he can cook anything that they wanted, using that deep raspy voice that he knew you loved and place his big soft hands on the women's thigh.
You tried to get him out of there but he would make a comment about "Being enough for everyone", when you called him he basically ignored you, when you touched him he barely noticed. You felt terrible,
After that humiliation, you decided to seat down, your sadness quickly being replaced by anger. You stared at him from the bar with your drink in one hand. He was sitting on the opposite side of the bar with a bunch of women, one on each side of him, the rest surrounding him, massaging his shoulders, giving him compliments, making sure their boobs touched his arms.
You snapped when you saw one of those girls grab his cheeks and playfully kiss his lips. Him just accepting it with a big dumb smile on his face. What the fuck was he even thinking about? You came to the conclusion he wasn't thinking at all.
If he wanted to play a jealousy game, you could play too, and you were going to be the best at it. You knew how to hurt him, you were his girlfriend after all. Zoro.
Zoro and you were quite close. You were strong and independent and he really respected that coming from a woman, specially considering his childhood. You both saw each other as the same, you used to train together, you knowing he wasn't going to hold back because "You're a girl".
It wasn't something unknown that Sanji hated Zoro for some reason, he hated the fact that you trained together, getting to a point where he would just sit and watch your training sessions just to make sure he wasn't going to try anything on you.
You approached him on the bar. He was drinking one of the many drinks that he had planned for the night, slightly drunk but so were all of you. He stared at you as you came closer.
"I need help." You told him, an angry expression on your face that he mimicked right away, thinking it was a dead or life situationship. "Help me get Sanji jealous." His face relaxed.
"Are you serious?" He whispered, feeling like you were teenagers at school.
"Very. Look at him!" You pointed at him, knowing that you could be yelling his name and he wouldn't notice, he was staring directly into some women boobs as he grabbed her waist. "I'm mad as fuck, and you hate him, let's make him mad. No one loses" Besides of Sanji, of course, but he deserves it.
Zoro considered it for a second. He did hated him, he did wanted to help you and you were hot. He gets to be drunk, flirt with a hot girl and make his nemesis mad, he truly don't loses anything.
He chugged his drink, then stared at you. "'Kay, what's the plan?". You smiled.
He put one of his hands on your hip, his hand lingering to your ass slowly. Both of you stood next to a wall near Sanji, you against the wall and Zoro in front of you. Now that you had him so close you realized how big he was. Sanji was tall, sure, but Zoro was big, he covered your body completely, and you felt tiny with his hand on your waist.
Zoro put a happy hand on one of your thighs again, playfully sticking a few fingers under your skirt, wanting to make the best of the situation now that he was at it. You placed a hand on his chest, and he drew you closer with his free hand. Talking to each other while being very near of each other faces. You could breathe the alcohol on Zoro's mouth, and he had a nice view of your cleavage.
Sanji stared at both of you in confusion, he was jealous of you simply talking to him back in the Sunny, seeing both of you so touchy definitely called his attention. But not enough for him to put a stop to his playful flirting with the women.
"It's not working..." You whispered to Zoro, directing your view to Sanji, slightly pouting. He stared into your eyes. "How jealous you wanna make him?". He grabbed your chin, making you face him again. Oh, he was drunk drunk.
His hand drifted to your neck, squeezing it slightly, enough for you to open your mouth slowly to breathe better. Not even trying to dismiss it as a romantic kiss, he licked your lips slowly, kissing you and quickly turning it into a french kiss.
Out of surprise, and maybe something else, you slightly moaned in his mouth, and you felt his lips curl up into a small smile. His hands kept you in place by your waist, you touched his chest not being sure what to do, deciding to hug him by the neck and pull him closer as well. That heated kiss lasted longer than you expected. Zoro's hands explored your body confidently, the hand on your neck slowly going down until reaching one of your boobs.
You grabbed his wrist, not sure if it was being too much. But his hand didn't stopped at all and you didn't knew if Sanji saw you.
It was something childish and dumb, you didn't just wanted to make him a little jealous, you wanted him to feel bad, as bad as you felt watching him not pay attention to you just get some other girls boobs on his face. It made you feel terrible, feel like you weren't enough, like you were replaceable and you were just some girl he said yes to being her boyfriend just to have some pussy that he was certain he would have available always.
Zoro broke the kiss first, staring directly to your red lips, not because of lipstick but because of such type of kiss.
You felt a presence next to you, when you turned your head, Sanji was there, clearly really mad.
"Oh, you're here, I thought I'd had to fuck Zoro to call your attention." You said, probably as mad as him, but keeping a calm nonchalant expression. It was obvious his actions affected you, but you didn't wanted to show that they did, yet.
"I don't mind." Zoro said, back to his usual, less hot, self, also staring at Sanji.
Sanji pushed both of you aside, deciding to deal with you first and then beat the living shit out of Zoro after he was done with you.
He grabbed your hand dragging you out of the bar. Being cornered in a wall once again on an alley a few streets out of the bar and near the docks where the sunny was, now by your boyfriend, you stared at him straight into his eyes.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He said, clear anger on the sound of his voice. "Out of all the men on that bar, It had to be Zoro, of course." He was mad, you could tell, but you decided to play your little act of not caring for longer.
"Yeah, but they were focused on how you were almost fucking every single girl in the bar, I bet they were jealous." You said, staring right into his eyes, he seemed to feel ashamed of his actions, just for a few seconds, a feeling that faded quickly as you kept talking. "But Zoro didn't seem to care, and since you were experimenting with girls hotter than me, I thought I'd do the same with someone hotter than you."
His face turned red quickly. He grabbed your face with one hand harshly. A grip tight enough to make your face hurt a little.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He yelled at you, startling you for a second, but you were sure he wouldn't hurt you, either because you trusted him, because you were drunk or because you were mad, you weren't too sure.
"I don't know, you tell me, you've been an asshole to me all night!" You answered, as harshly as him, quickly getting more and more heated by his lack of excuses, you knew you were wrong, but so was him. And he started the whole deal so he had to apologize first.
He released your face, placing his hand on one of his hips as the other one rested next to your head against the wall. "Of course not! I'd never do such thing! You were the one almost fucking Zoro." Now he was treating you like you were insane. Flirting with other girls was already bad enough, but acting like you hallucinated everything and faking dementia was going to make you genuinely insane.
"Yes you did such thing!" You mocked him, watching his gaze get madder and madder. "I even saw you kiss one!"
"Nope, I don't remember that" He played dumb, and you stared at him dumbfounded.
"You're unbelievable! I can't believe I even started dating you!" You turned your head way from him.
He stared at you in surprise, he knew he had a problem, but he did love you, as much as his stupid behavior allowed him. "What the fuck do you mean?" His expression of surprise was quickly replaced by the same stare of anger you saw directed to you all night. You were forced to face him again as he grabbed your forearm with a little too much strength. Pulling you closer where you could feel his familiar breath. "I mean that I hate you!" You replied quickly, not giving it a lot of thought, probably going to regret saying that as much as he's going to regret not paying you attention that night.
"Fine! I hate you too!" He answered, not letting you go neither pulling you away despite of his words. You stared at him, his blue eyes that looked at you with a hatred that you didn't believe was genuine at all, he probably thought the same of your own stare of hatred.
"Fine." You whispered, looking down to his lips for a few seconds, as you licked yours.
"Fine." He mirrored your expression. Staring into your lips.
Before you could even process that you "Hated each other", you pulled him closer, pressing your lips into his own. He placed a hand on the back of your head while the other one got around your waist.
You gripped his shirt as the kiss continued, unbuttoning the first buttons of his shirt while Sanji's hand on your waist lingered lower and lower.
"Let's go to the sunny." You felt that deep, raspy voice that you loved against your lips once again.
"Yes."

Luffy, N-43 ~ Roleplay
Summary: Drabble of Luffy wanting to spice things up in the bedroom, outside. Reversing the roles - you the vampire and he your victim. @writing-yarn-goblin came in clutch with the TikToks that inspired me again!
Warnings: Spicy, Female reader, pure smut, handjob (Luffy receiving), biting, public masturbation in the dark, brief mentions of blood consumption but in passing. Word Count: 898
“C’mon please?” Luffy whined. “I’m asking so nicely!”
“I don’t know, will I need to…you know…?”
“No! It’s just for the thrill! I don’t expect you to drink my blood. You don’t even have to wear the fake bullshit teeth.”
You stared at Luffy as he bounced on the balls of his feet with a puppy-like pout on his face. He wasn’t asking for much, really. A simple date in theory. That ends with you taking him to the park late at night where no one is around, seducing him and biting his neck. Easy peasy.
Except for the part where you aren’t a vampire, and Luffy actually is.
“I’d like it if you do bite me,” he smirked, “But you do that on your own anyways. I wouldn’t be upset if you broke skin. Remember, you only get turned if I bite you and infect you with vampirism and on the brink of your death you drink my blood to fully turn.”
You mulled it over in your head before nodding. Luffy respected your boundaries completely, and while you hadn’t broached the subject of him feeding from you directly due to the way the transformation worked, you had satiated his bloodlust in and out of the bedroom by pricking your finger and letting him lick it off – never allowing him to pierce your skin directly. The venom was released from the fangs themselves, as long as it didn’t enter your bloodstream, you’d be fine.
The night of the seduction came and you took him to the place you went on your first date with him. He took you to a place that wasn’t a buffet but it certainly served buffet-sized portions.
You always thought vampires couldn’t stomach human food – and most of them couldn’t. Luffy was an exception for being…well a freak according to his vampire friends you’d met before. The other ‘freak’ was Chopper, who only drank animal blood, which made sense considering he was a vampire reindeer – bitten by a, you guessed it, vampire bat. Their vampire crew had a bunch of so-called oddballs but you found them all endearing honestly.
Luffy restrained himself, too eager for the night to truly begin. He ate one plate while you pushed around your portion, a little anxious to do the act. You’ve never done public intimacy before. Staying until the place closed and kicked you both out, you made your way hand in hand through the park, a quiet 15 acres of forest and lawn for the public and nature to enjoy together. Few lamps lit the path but that was fine, made the night all the more exciting.
Once you’re both deep inside the park, your hands start groping his ass and chest as you’re walking and you ask to take a seat over by the sleepy looking willow tree. Off the path and into the dark, his hands in turn begin groping you; you sit him on the ground and straddle his hips, delighted to feel that he’s already hard.
Griding into his bulge, you unbutton your top and let him bury his face in your cleavage, gently sucking on your nipples as his hands grounded you harder on to him. A moan tumbles from your lips and you push his back into the tree, hissing out, “I’m supposed to be seducing you.”
His dark eyes glowed in the dark and you could see his widened chesire smile even with the shadows threatening to swallow him whole. “I know I know, got excited. You’re the boss.”
“Fuckin right I am,” you swallow your confidence and trace your long nails down his abdomen, lightly scratching his skin that made him yip.
You took your time teasing his pants off that his underwear had a large wet spot. You traced those nails down his naked shaft and grinned when his cock bobbed up and down from your touch. Wrapping your hand around his long cock, you started pumping him as your free hand shoved his shoulder to keep him pinned to the tree, not letting him kiss you or your body as he keened.
Gripping his cock tighter and jerking him faster, his precum dribbled and lubricated your strokes to his pleasure. He was moaning and groaning, hips pathetically bucking into your hand and making your body rock as you kept him pinned. You could do this for hours, you thought mischievously. Maybe you would – back in the comfort of your own home and only right after you make him cum his brains out in the park.
You pressed your chest against his as you kept stroking him, faster and faster, your lips met his for dizzying kisses that you trailed down his jaw and neck. You sensually licked the spot you chose, sucked it softly before clenching his smooth, cool skin between your teeth and bit down on him - HARD.
“AAAHH AAAAAAAHHHH!!!” Luffy cried out, back of his head hitting the tree as he thrust his hips so fervently your body was lifted slightly. Still you did not let go. “FUUUUCK Y/N!” he groaned as he spilled his hot seed over your fist as your pumped him through it.
You brought your hand and licked off his essence, “Yeah no offense but this is the only bodily fluid of yours I want to consume.”
Luffy grinned sheepishly, “Shishishishishi, I’ll give it to you in abundance.”
22 tiles to go, 10 calls made so far.

Reading Little Lucky AU while being on Thriller Bark has me rolling just imagining a small child running around. One who's seen enough crazy stuff go down to maybe not even think zombies or talking skeletons are that scary in the first place. Either that or she acclimates pretty quickly since everyone (+ I imagine she'd be with the main party rather than Nami/Usopp/and Chopper?) who's not freaking out over everything is with her.
If she were to somehow get caught (the group is rampaging even worse than before) Perona finding them the cutest thing ever. Then getting absolutely offended when her silly laugh gets called out. I imagine Moria only laughs more if she does the same to him. while Hogback (if Lucky calls it out in a nicer way like saying she likes their laughs because they're silly) asks Chindry why she can't be more like that only to get the meanest comment yet and Lucky is like, "that's not nice 😡" and it suddenly becomes a fight between Perona and Hogback on who gets the shadow. Perona may have been offended, but she's freaking adorable and Hogback needs at least one person who'll be nice to him in the mansion lmao. The only reason I could see absalom wanting the shadow is to maybe try distracting Lola from actively chasing him with the idea of a child but I also don't think he'd want to add fuel that that fire so he'd maybe make a gross comment about when she's older but, like in your Strays AU post, Perona would kick his ass for it.
I almost wonder if Moria might be hesitant to take a kid's, especially such a small ones, shadow. Doesn't seem like it'd make a very useful underling and honestly, it's not the most boring thing in the world having a kid around (Moria taking care of and playing with a young Perona makes my heart melt it's so cute) and the others can always take care of anything he's too lazy to. Plus, if she ever starts whining about missing her old crew, they can just round up the zombies with their shadows, kid probably won't know the difference. So... yea. Not like she can cause much of any harm anyway.
And suddenly, Lucky has control over her own little zombie hoard that aren't exactly top fighters but will at least keep her away from the Srawhats. Honestly, the zombies hoard at her beck and command is probably the only reason she isn't actively demanding the Strawhats shadows back 24/7. It's like a bunch of new friends to play with and Perona lets her play with her cute zombies and throws a pretty sweet tea party, so at least she's safe?
I also love Kaku kidnapping her while being like, "I may commit terrible atrocities, but this is clearly child endangerment." Peak content 😂
I haven't finished that arc yet, but I have a couple of ideas rolling around for it
I also am leaning towards her being in the main party, great minds think alike I suppose. When Lucky doesn't know how to react to something, her first go to is to see how Luffy is reacting and go from there, so she's honestly having a great old time. If Luffy isn't scared, she won't be either.
Perona absolutely snatches her up. She loves cute things, and the second that Little Lucky calls one of her ghosts cute, she's making plans to go get her.
I'm imagining this interaction between Perona and Moria where she strolls in and asks where he keeps all of her old clothing from when she was a kid. He asks why she could possibly want any of that stuff now, and she just holds up Little Lucky like 'I found this baby and I'm keeping her'. Moria recalls how he got Perona and nods. That is how children are typically acquired in his experience. The clothes are in that closet over there, have fun you two!
I am going to give Absalom a tiny bit of credit and say that I don't think he would make a pass at a four year old, but he may approach her to ask if she wants to be the flower girl at his and Nami's wedding. Perona would reluctantly agree to this because he has a point, she would make an adorable flower girl.
Little Lucky is demanding to know why Nami didn't tell her she was getting married, and Nami has to find a child-friendly way to explain that she is here against her will. Sanji comes in and has to take a couple of minutes to take pictures of Little Lucky in her flower girl dress before getting down to business and beating the shit out of Absalom.
I think it would be funny to let Little Lucky have an all around fun time in Thriller Bark to contrast how shitty it goes for adult Lucky in Lucky Break.
And yes, Kaku may be an assassin, but he has standards lmao

One Piece Spoilers below
Something that’s really funny to me is that the Straw Hats are speed running being pirates, which I’ve talked about before, but it gets even funnier when look at it from the perspective of the World Government. Like, one day you get told that a random guy in a straw hat took down Buggy, Don Krieg, and Arlong, which gained the highest bounty in the East Blue, 30 million Berries. Which you think is crazy, but whatever, that just puts him on Smokers radar and nobody gets past Smoker, right? Wrong, cause according to Smoker, Dragon showed up and prevented Smoker from taking down straw hat guy. And for a while, that’s it. You don’t hear anymore about him or his crew, which you believe is because of the Grand Line being, well the Grand Line. Smoker calls you up one day and is like, hey, the Straw Hat Pirates, that what they’re called now, defeated Crocodile in Alabasta. To which you suddenly freak out, because know this Luffy kid is a threat, and you can’t have people finding out about his actions. So, the world thinks that Smoker took down Crocodile and that Luffy played a tiny part in that. In accordance, his bounty is now 100 million Berries. And then him and his crew vanish off the face of the earth, which you take to as a relief. Then Kuzan calls, informing you that the Straw Hats pulled up to Long Ring Long Land with Nico Robin in tow, he didn’t catch them, but that they’re most likely heading to Water 7. Great. Well, at least Lucci and co. are already at Water 7, so they just capture Robin, head to Enies Lobby, and… what? They did what? Scratch that, the Straw Hats broke into Enies Lobby, saved Robin, and escaped the Buster Call to boot. Increase the bounty, 300 million Berries! Poof, Luffy and crew are once again the wind, and you think they might ended up encountering Moria, so you send Kuma to warn him, as well as be there in case Moria washes up. Which he does, but so does Kuma, but at least it wasn’t public like Crocodiles. And besides, you have more pressing matters, what with the upcoming execution of one Portgas D. Ace and all the Supernovas arriving at Sabbody at the same time. Then that idiot punched a World Noble, because of course he did. So Kizaru rolls up, as does Sentomaru and some Pascifta, and the Straw Hats were totally defea… Kuma sent them away? Oh. Well, that’s basically a defeat, right? Huh? Luffy is were? Impel Down? Trying to free Ace, who’s apparently his brother? Ah, good ol’ Mellegan, I knew we could count on him to take down Luffy. Pardon me? Luffy escaped? With who? Crocodile, Mr. 1, Mr. 3, Ivonkva, Inzuma, Buggy, Jinbei, and a ton of prisoners? Gosh darn it all, I’m busy enough as it is! All right, let’s just focus on killing Ace and… GARP IT’S YOUR OWN DAMM FAMILY AGAIN! Fucking hell, Luffy just dropped out of the sky, caused so much trouble, and then vanished for two years, but at least he’s gone…he just showed up? Did we capture him? No?!?! What do you mean no?!?! Well, where the hell are they?!?! (Worth noting that Luffy’s bounty went from 300 to 400 million Berries during this time, and that Dragon was his father, which is probably why Luffy was saved by him all the way back in the East Blue.) At which point, the Straw Hats proceed to wreck havoc at Punk Hazard, according to Smoker, defeat Doflamingo, giving Luffy another bounty increase to 500 million Berries, pull another disappearing act, during which they give Big Mom a headache, which you decide warrants a bounty raise to 1.5 billion Berries, and then they hop their way into Wano, in which you have no power. But you do have spies, which inform you that they, along with their allies, dropped both Big Mom and Kaido. Because of course they did. So, you slap a bounty of 3 billion Berries on Luffys head, and the last you heard, he was gallivanting in Egghead, with Kizaru, Saturn, and a bunch of marines heading there to take down Vegapunk. Oh dear.
Like, Luffy and co. should not be where they are now, but they are and they’re pretty powerful as well.

thinking about Luffy from the perspective of an everyday schmo in his world is hilarious. And I don’t mean “I heard he was 20 feet tall” etc., though that is still really funny. I mean think about what’s public knowledge on him.
this guy comes out of nowhere, declares war on the fucking government, blows up the centre of their justice system, punches one of the people who run your entire planet & are worshipped as gods and somehow gets away with it, breaks into the most secure prison in the world, breaks right back out again just to jump feet-first into the biggest war in recent memory during which you find out his dad's also trying to overthrow the government, his grandfather works for the government, the pirate king’s kid is his adopted brother. He is seen mouthing off to a freaking Emperor (aka one of the Four Most Scariest Pirates In The Entire World), and another Emperor casually gives him his hat back. A few weeks later he breaks into the headquarters of the world’s biggest military (which is actively hunting him btw) just so he can ring a bell, and the pirate king's right-hand man is there helping him.
And then he fucking disappears for two years.
Suddenly he's back, he teams up with a Government-Sanctioned Pirate™ to save some country you’ve never heard of by beating the shit out of Pablo Escobar and is publicly hailed as a hero?? then he works with Al Capone, a bunch of mermen and the villains from your comic books to assassinate an Emperor, wrecks her tea party and blows up her house instead, runs away and takes out a completely different Emperor while letting his buddies deal with the first one. Here’s his crew:
a guy who used to kill pirates for a living
a woman who studies ancient superweapons and blew up six ships at age 8
actual royalty
your favourite rock star
an 8ft-tall cyborg
a cat burglar in a bikini
some kind of fish monster
“God”
also he has a pet raccoon or something and apparently feeds it cotton candy
but in every photo, he's just some little fucker in jean shorts with a huge smile on his face. oh, and his other brother is Ché Guevara. absolutely buckwild. how do you cope

Where They Take You On a Date • OP Men HC• (SFW)
Fem!reader
CW: Lots of Fluff, kissing, slightly suggestive
Characters: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, Law,
Cee’s Note: This literally made me so happy writing this. They are all so 😍 anyways hope y’all enjoy
Luffy
Fair Date
The island that the Sunny was currently docked at had a local fair that Luffy couldn’t wait to take you to.
Be prepared to be dragged on every single ride there. If he sees you’re nervous or scared he will hold your hand and give you his famous grin.
“Don’t be scared Y/N, I got you”
As much as he loves riding rides, he loves the fair food even more. He will literally splurge all the money on fair food shdjdj
He catches you glancing at a cute stuffed animal that was on display at one of the fair game booths. He was determined to win you that stuffed animal at all costs. When he did, he gave you it, earning him a kiss on the cheek.
The last ride you two went on was the ferris wheel. Once you guys make it to the top, you get nervous being so high up. Luffy once again comforts you only this time, he presses his lips against yours.
Your nerves vanish and all your focus was how good his lips felt on you. As the kiss deepened, you felt his hand go up your skirt. Good thing you two were so high up, where no one could see what occurred next 🤭
Zoro
Dinner/bar date
Zoro is a simple man. He usually prefers just quality time with you on the ship whether it’s training together or taking naps on the deck. However, you guys been dating for a while and he decided to take you out on a real date.
He took you to this fancy restaurant that Nami and Robin suggested when he had asked them for advice.
The menu was filled with food you two have never heard of sgdjdj
“How the hell do you even pronounce that?”
You found it sweet that Zoro was trying hard to make this date special but you could tell this was not him.
He was relieved when you suggested to leave the restaurant and go to a bar instead.
The night was filled with laughs as you both got absolutely hammered at that bar
You two may or may not have ended up making out and getting frisky in the bar’s bathroom 👀
Sanji
Picnic date
Ok let’s be real, this man already caters to your every needs on the regular. But today was a special day, it was your anniversary.
Sanji decided to convince the crew to ditch the ship for the day so that you guys would be alone.
He set up a surprise picnic date for you on the deck of the ship. Rose petals were littered all around the blanket. The spread was filled with all your favorite foods and desserts and your favorite wine.
You were in awe at the display and almost teared up at the sight. You told Sanji he didn’t have to do all this for you.
“Nothing but the best for my beautiful angel”
After you guys finished eating, he had given you a small box with a bow on top. Inside was a necklace with his name on it.
Let’s just say you decided to give him his anniversary present right there and then instead of waiting for the bedroom 😉
Usopp
Beach date
Usopp decides to take advantage of the warm sun and plan a beach day with you.
Usopp is playful so your beach day is filled with you chasing each other on the sand and splashing water at each other in the water
You thought it would be funny to bury his body in sand which resulted in him making up a bunch of lies not to do it.
“Sorry Y/N, I happen to have a condition that prevents me from being buried in sand or i’ll die. Hahaha”
He eventually gives in and lets you because you gave him a cute pout. Everything was fine until a crab crawled on top of him and he started freaking out sgdjdj
While you guys were swimming in the water, Usopp grabs you by the waist to come closer to him. You wrap your arms around his neck and wrap your legs around him. His hands hold you up by your thighs as he leans in to give you a deep kiss.
He brings one hand to your bikini bra strap and starts to slip it down. As much as he likes you in your bikini, he would rather have it off 👀
Law
Night stroll date
Like Zoro, Law is another one who enjoys the simple things and isn’t big on grand gestures.
Today you wanted to go out instead of being in his office, but Law kept shooing you away saying he was busy with work.
It was evening now and he felt guilty for ignoring you all day, so he decided to make it up to you.
“Y/N-ya, come walk with me”
The town you guys were docked at was known for having the prettiest city lights and night life.
He held your hand as you two walked through the town checking out the scenery.
While you gazed at the lights, Law couldn’t help but admire you. Yeah the lights were pretty, but he thought you were more beautiful.
His arm wrapped around your waist giving it a slight squeeze, causing you too look up at him. The look on his face you knew all too well.
Let’s just say your walk was cut short for obvious reasons 😏

anon asked: Ok but imagine the strawhat pirates trying to prepare luffy for his first date
genre: fluff, gender neutral reader
im currenrly reposting a few old stories i wrote some time ago from my old blog!! REQUESTS ARE OPEN!!
the strawhat pirates preparing luffy for his first date:
Ok so first things first every single member probably thinks you are nuts for agreeing to go out with their captain, but when they saw how happy you and Luffy were when you agreed to spend some time together they just couldnt help but smile, trying their best since they know how dense their captain can be.
After Sanji finally calmed down and stopped crying because Luffy got a date and he didnt, he and Nami are willing to teach him how to fucking eat like a normal person (in case you are going out to eat) because the way Luffy just crams a bunch of food into his mouth is not quite pleasant, no matter if its in front of his crush or in front of them.
But lets be realistic, after one and a half hours both of them would just give up because there is no way Luffy will use a fork or spoon correctly.
Usopp is the one responsible for taking care that Luffy showers properly, even if it means he has to get into that damn shower by himself and scrub his whole body. I think its no secret that Luffy barely showers, because... water? and Luffy? Nope, not gonna happen.
Robin and Zoro are not really interfering, just watching the whole rigmalore in front of them and smiling to themselves. They both think there is no need to change the way their captain behaves since you agreed to go out with the huge dork, not with a forced gentlemen, but instead of calming them down they both just watch the whole crew make a fuss. Its kinda like Luffys friends are more excited about the date then he is.
Franky is already searching for the fake mustaches they wore at dressrosa in order to follow you discreetly, thinking that this will truely disguise them. Plot twist: It doesnt.
Brook and Chopper are trying to convince him to change in some more appropriate clothes, but there is no way Luffy would change. He is comfortable in what he is wearing and he probably doesnt even own anything different than his colored shirts and blue shorts.
At the end of the day every one of his crew members got exhausted because there is no freaking way their captain will change and will become a gentlemen in less then half a day. Thats probably when Robin finally speaks up and calms everyone down.
You are probably in your own room, not noticing how the other members harassed Luffy the whole evening over, just trying to get ready by yourself, already excited to explore the new island you landed on some hours earlier with Luffy. At some point Nami even barges into the room, looking quite exhausted, asking if you are 1000% sure to go out with the gummy boy. And you are just like... Yes?? You are sure. At least you think you are lol.
Nami is giving Luffy some extra money to spend on the island - which is a very very bad idea actually since he will lose it in no matter of time or spend it on complete bullshit. Thats probably the reason why she also gave you a bit more money than usually, knowing that Luffy will throw it out of the window and you have to pay for him, but you dont mind at all.
Five minutes after you both left the ship to go explore the island, Franky showed up with the beards and hats in order to follow you and take care that everything is going smoothly. But no way would Robin let them leave the ship, no matter how much they begged or tried to convince her. She would even use her devil fruit powers in order to keep the other strawhat pirates on their ship. She just wants to respect your and Luffys privacy.
No one of them knows how the date was. They just sat on the Sunny all day, wondering about all the scenarios that could happen.
After some hours they finally hear your and Luffys voices again, even though its just a muffled dialogue since you are currently talking in front of the ship instead of climbing up. Even Zoro became curious on how it went, every single one of them looking down and trying to peek on both of you, reading your faces. The only thing they saw though was how you gave Luffy a big smooch on his red cheeks, and him showing you the biggest gummismile he has, giggling slightly. Even you could tell how the tense atmosphere upstairs left immediately, everyone smiling down on both of you, happy it went well.
☆☆☆
i hope you liked it aaaa english is not my first language so it may be a bit hard to read,, i hope you still enjoyed this small fic <3

One Piece: Amazon Lily Arc
Kizaru tore through the pirate Captains and their cfews without abandon. SHe watched as the Supernovas did their best to fight the strange giant humans. Light flshed so brightly she had to cover her eyes. A loose growl in her throat as she used her zoan form to leap from her hiding place atop the giant mangrove. Landing on her feet she dodge an oncoming blast of fire as a Marine company sent a volley of bullets her way. Each movement she did required all of her enhanced reflexes, Only when she went sailing over the edge, though, did she truly know fear. --- The Amazon Lily Arc, whoa! WE got this far! Luffy is sent flying after a moment of pure gut- wrenching despair. His body is struck by the power of Kuma's Nikyu Nikyu no Mi and on his way at high speed through the air. After he strikes the ground we find him in the one place perhaps he shouldn't be. Amazon Lily, home to the all-cisfemale (YES I AM INCLUDING OKAMA and NEWKAMA IN THIS ASSESSMENT!) Kuja Tribe. We get to meet Marguerite and her friends as they discover poor Luffy after he stupidly consumes a parasitic mushroom. Bouncing forward and skipping over the anime dick jokes with the Kuja, what is most important here is how Luffy reacts. He wakes up, freaks out and yet as he gets chased he doesn't intentionally try to ruin a bunch of stuff. Instead, he nearly dies and get's saved by Marguerite while her friends, Sweet Pea, and Aphelandra do their best to support her. A few things about the Kuja I like. One yes, some have the pretty curvy designs of the typical One Piece women, but many also have pretty different body types. WE see broad-chested women, short, plump and more. Plus, yes, they all wear bikini's in a pretty blunt manner which is all the better when Luffy ignores everything. I love how Luffy is easily this lovable Ace motherfucker who just wants to make people happy. Now skipping through all the shenanigans Boa Hancock comes in after turning entire Marine Crew to Stone. After Luffy pops into her bath and sees her back she flips out (with good reason). The Snake Princess is shown in parts of this arc as cold and distant. Her looks and her fruit make people love her without any really deeper feeling. They see her as an object, and this makes her painful backstory all the worse. Plus I wanna say that I love her sisters, Sonia is just a fucking darling. And, Marigold is just this awesome fat goddess who can kick serious ass. The scene after they take over Luffy's execution after he defeats their giant panther is, funny and interesting. It sets up the Boa sisters as cold, and brutal. They use their Haki to easily defeat and toy with Luffy. When they move to smash the stone forms of Marguerite, Sweetpea and Aphelandra I was calling for Luffy to destroy them. There is a point to this brutality though, the sisters have been shaped by their society which forbids men, and they were tortured. So just as Luffy first unleashes a mega Conqueror's Haki burst and soundly starts kicking their asses I cheered loudly for him. One Piece is a show I can just watch for Hours and just feel good about. With gusto! I was lost in writing when I saw Sonia knocked toward the sharpened spikes and heard how her mark would be exposed. Seeing Luffy just leap onto Sonia's back even after she eagerly threatened to smash one of her own people was a clincher for why I love him. Wait no, it was him say, yup fuck my freedom, save your people please! Yeah, Luffy has a level of goodness that just makes me feel better. Boa Hancock's Backstory So, I didn't go much into my feelings on the Celestial Dragons, but lets ignore the fact that they are literal caricatures of what rick people really do! SO. All three young girl were captured as cabin girls on their own ship and then branded with the "Dragon's Claw". Let that sink in, these were young teens sold into slavery for some monsters. I swear if these fuckers were wearing crosses and were part of a mega-church or even a republican meeting! Yup, the girls got away after they were experimented on and wow. The amount of trauma they all went through and the fact they can still lead a country is pretty impressive. All of the stories and the coldness they show to their people is kind of explained in their trauma. Honestly, I am so glad they ran with how blunt the story was. Because any other idiot would have turned this into a tragic villain scene. Instead, we got a scene that shows us how a ruler can easily become distant from her own people. If they show weakness they think the people will turn on them. Damn, you think that the kids making a homemade statute would prove the opposite. I think the dissonance I felt as I watch them threaten to smash Marguerite versus revealing their trauma was surreal. It really shows how much emotional distant and masking the three do. All to maintain the false story of the Gorgon Sisters. Preparing For Impel Down After Hancock acquiesce to Luffy's request to save (and yes I realize I'm skipping a plot beat or two) she gets a pretty thorough verbal comment from Granny Nyon. As Luffy prepares to leave Hancock becomes suddenly sick. WE learn that all of Luffy's compassion has given her reason to fall head over heels in love with him. This was a bit of a weird scene, that her cold heart would come to fixate so much she could die outside his presence. The scenes where we see Luffy and her traveling aboard the ship alone was strange. Hancock's lovesickness seems a bit out of left field for me, I would have preferred if it was a little less sudden. Now, know beforehand she had a thing for Luffy. Hell, I even tried to find a few fanfics that played around the relationship. The problem is I couldn't find any really shorter than 50k words that kept my interest. Please don't blame me that I prefer Nami and Luffy. Please note, I headcanon Luffy as a nonbinary ace hero. Overall This setting does a good job of showing more abilities derived from Haki. The idea that up until now we've barely seen it becomes more realistic as it seems it's not a widely practice gift outside of the New World. Sentamarou was a master of Armament Haki and it appears the Kuja use it as well to empower their attacks. This was a decent continual show of what Haki can achieve and it was a nice way to show how Devil Fruits can be defeated by Haki users. If Luffy didn't have his experience in battle he wouldn't have dodged all those Kuja arrows. If he didn't have Second Gear, he wouldn't have defeated Sonia or Marigold without it really. The increased speed was the only way he really got around Sonia's observation Haki and the increased velocity for his strikes assisted him against Marigold. This is a big change from when we first saw a certain annoying Skypeian using "Mantra" (Satori) against Sanji. Or hell, Shank's in episode one from the get-go. Conclusion This Arc focused on Luffy regaining a sense of hope. Watching him break down in Saobody when everyone disappeared was nerve-wracking. As someone who has felt a sense of despair, I will never reach Luffy's level. The poor kid loses his entire found family and finds out his brother is to die not long after. The actual way they emphasized each disappearance by Kuma by a bubble popping was tightened the anxiety I felt as I watched. Switching suddenly to something a bit more filled with hope was a nice change of pace. I say hope because both Hancock and Luffy brought it to each other. Luffy brought about the physical beating of two Celestial Dragons. Plus saving a friend of his from slavery ups the reality of how much Hancock can show some trust. Hancock, on the other hand, and as she treats her people better gives Luffy stability. It also seemed to give him time to remember his crew wasn't dead. They were all just sent flying everywhere. A pause to recover from watching everyone almost die. Hottakes:
That poor giant boar at the beginning, he deserved better.
The entire scene with Luffy being considered a girl was, so weird for me.
Like I was happy that the girls were like "ah yes another woman", but then the mushroom jokes and body washing. eeeww.
Mageurite deserves a bigger part in a side story, watching her help Luffy was interesting.
Sweatpea was a fucking amazing bean.
Aphelandra really shows how people in One Piece can be super tiny or fucking giants, and NOT BE ACTUAL GIANTS.
Momonga, wtf is up with the naming of this world.
The Mero-Mero no Mi is such a weird fruit, it's a fruit that creates a great sense of attraction and can turn people to stone if they have lewd thoughts.
THE FUCK ODA?!
The snake forms on Sonia and Margold into big titty nagas, shows that furries are well loved in ONe Piece.
I like how they are emphasizing this weird sort of fated pairing of Luffy almost in a folkloric way. He and her have Conqueror's Haki which is pretty damn rare.
Hancock needs a good Polyam ship with Vivi and Nami.
Robin would adore Amazon Lily since it appears to have constant sense of archaeological history.

Ite about midnight and i should really get a healthy anount of sleep for once, but an idea flashed in my mind and who would be better to ask than you?
i apologize for requesting so much, ik u said it was okay but i feel kinda annoying lmao
May I please request some headcanons with Law? Where his s/o is usually calm and collected, but during the alliance with the strawhat crew, they just cant handle how carefree and silly they are and just snaps along with laws reaction? sorry if thats confusing! Thanks!💛
A/N: Hiii once again dear~ its fine you're not annoying at all, in fact your request are so cute + you should have enough sleep its not good to stay awake all night look at the night owl who is talking🙈💕
That's actually a nice request, Law's surprised reactions are priceless 😂🙏
Here you go and I hope you enjoy~
---------------
Law with a S/O who can Handle how carefree and silly the Strawhats are Headcanons
--------------
So everyone on the Polar Tang agreed that you and Law were the calmest and the most collected couples they've ever met
Even when you were sitting alone in the room together, silence would be filling your surroundings
He's be working, reading or studying and you'll be just sitting there doing your free time hobbie
When you're in a serious situation like an battle against some enemies for example
The rest of the crew would be slightly freaked out, but, the two of you would just stand still in your places with that relaxed straight face
And let's be honest Law is really happy yet grateful that you are calm and collected as him, at least there is someone who could put him at ease when he's stressed
Or pressured bcs of the crew's clumsiness in some serious situations
So when he did an alliance with the Strawhats, he was kind of surprised, or let's say shocked at how carefree and silly they are comparing to the other pirates he met
And he was literally standing there with his Jaw dropped, pulling that i hate bread face expression when he saw you
The most collected person in his life is being as carefree as the Strawhats
You were jumping and laughimg loudly with Luffy and the others, laughed on Zoro and Sanji's stupid arguments, and you got those star eyes when franky changes his hair style
He was standing just there, (Law.exe has stopped working)
" Is that (Y/N)-ya.....?" He muttered
You would look at him later to find him standing in his place looking at you
"Law daring what's wrong?" You questioned with the softest voice ever that Law is used to hear
" Ah...its nothing...its just that ... I didn't know that you hid that amount of energy inside you" he said as he hid his blushed cheeks under his hat
" oh is that so?? Hehe well, they're fun so why not, you should join us too" you said as you pulled him from his wrist
"Oii chotto (Y/N)-ya!!!" He called as he was dragged by you
Law was sometimes wonders why he made an alliance with such an idiot that only goes out of his well made plans
But internally he was glad, bcs now he got a bunch of weird friends and most importantly
He saw a new side of you, and he would endure the Strawhats silliness in order to see this side of you everyday
Bouns:
At night he'd become more snuggly and clingy, he'd shower you with tiny kisses on your lips and cuddles you all night since he can't do it throughout the day.

(´• ω •`) ♡ Hey yo!! Thanks a bunch for requesting! I got so upbeat reading your ask since we all love Sanji, so I couldn’t wait to write it! Like you, I find myself appreciating writing/reading angst stuff lately so... your request came in handy !! I hope you enjoy it, have a nice and safe day! <3
I’d never think of you as a failure
Sanji x fem!reader
Summary: Sanji has been acting weird since he came back from an exploration mission. Thanks to that, an excruciating event happened between you and Sanji. Obviously, you couldn’t help but try to figure out what’s going on with him. Sanji’s cheeling past with his family certainly has to do with it. Well, at least he has you to count on.
Warnings: angst, disagreements, troubled past
Word count: ~1.7k

"I miss him..." You mumble to yourself as soon as you wake up, seeing the left side of your bed empty.
It's been a few days since Sanji, your boyfriend, left the ship with Luffy, Robin, Franky, and Law's crew to explore an island. The band split into two groups to streamline the process of going in search of the blue poneglyphs. Consequently, you and the rest of the crew are in charge of keeping tabs on the ship, while the other group is using Law's submarine since all of you agreed to meet at the next island.
You and the others have been waiting for the rest of the crew as you already arrived on the encounter island four days ago.
"Good morning, Nami." You greet the Straw hats' navigator while you approach Sunny's aquarium. She is sitting on the bench, "Morning, Y/N!". You both start a conversation, then you bring up the subject of the rest of the crew's members comeback, showing your worries about Sanji's safety. "I can't stand it anymore. I miss him so freaking much." You say as you cross your arms, with your hands gripping upper them. "I guess I've been used to be by his side." Nami can't help but give you a sad look. She tries to comfort you by saying they will arrive when you least expect it.
Suddenly, You hear someone yells, "THEY'RE HERE!! LUFFY AND THE OTHERS!!"
"Oh my god. And I want to earn a hundred million bellies!" Nami jokes as soon as she realizes the amused fluke. You don't hesitate a second and run towards the room's door in an attempt to check if it's true, with your heart pounding out of your chest, utterly desperate.
You see Usopp in the ship's mainmast, with his hands screening his eyes from the sun's light as he tries to get a better view of the group coming. He can't stop smiling and screaming about the other group's return, giving you a glad feeling.
"Oi!! Oi, oi, oi!" It's Luffy, happily waving at all of you. Your eyes automatically start looking for Sanji in the crowd. As soon as you see your boyfriend, without a second thought, you run towards him, immediately jumping out of Sunny, "Sanji!!".
When Sanji notices you, a smile from ear to ear on his face appears. He opens his arms, implying to give you a tight hug.
Quickly, you hug him. The warmth you feel when you both embrace each other is incomparable, "I missed you." Sanji whispers as he holds you.
When you are about to let go of the embrace, you slowly rub your arm over Sanji's right shoulder, "Ouch!" Sanji unintentionally lets out, as if he was in pain. "What happened??" You worriedly ask. "It's Nothing, Y/N-chan." Sanji grins while he tucks a lock of your hair behind your ear, "I'm okay. Don't worry." You can't help but fret about him. Still, you pass this matter over for a while.
Thereabout eight hours have passed since Luffy's group return. Since then, you've been spending this whole time with Sanji.
You are sitting on a bench in front of the kitchen countertop while you watch Sanji cooking the banquet for the celebration later, "You look tired.", you say with a concerned voice tone as you fold your hands together on the countertop. "How long has it been since you've slept decently?" Sanji scratches his neck with his index finger, "I'm not tired, Y/N-chan." Sanji replies while he puts some flour on the tip of your nose, leaving it entirely white. So then, he chuckles. "I've been sleeping well, don't worry." Afresh, he smiles, but you know he's hiding something from you. Sanji is unsettled, for sure.
The big celebration starts, lots of food all over the dinner table, which follows the Straw hats' classic menu: basically, the favorite dish of each one of the members. All of these, prepared by your sweet boyfriend and, also, the best cooker you've ever met, Sanji.
Luffy approaches the table, his mouth drooling for complete. Expectedly, he starts eating a piece of meat. When suddenly he asks with his mouth full, "Where's Sanji?" He's right. Sanji said he was quickly going to go to the room of you both about 45 minutes ago. You lean back and look up, wondering why Sanji is taking so long. Owing to that, you get up from your seat, "I'm gonna go call him."
An anxiety awareness comes as you walk towards your room. You don't know why, but you are having an awful feeling about Sanji's absence; a quickened breath takes over your lungs. Perhaps this is due to his behavior since he arrived. Genuinely, you know that he is not well, and it worries the hell out of you.
Even though it's also your room, you try to respect Sanji's privacy, considering that you don't know what he is doing inside there.
In reason of that, you knock on the door. No answer. You try it again. Still no answer. You do it five more times, and Sanji doesn't reply.
So you decide to come in.
You gradually open the door as you murmur, "Sanji?"
You take slow steps on the wooden floor. Sanji is not in the main room, so you call on his name using a louder voice, "Sanji!". Suddenly, a noise comes from the bathroom.
You immediately head over there. Hence, a feeling of shock erodes your body as you see Sanji failing to try to hide a big bruise on his right shoulder. You can't stop looking at the wound as you put your hands over your mouth in shock. The wound is really bad. It looks like it was an extremely strong punch's blow or something like that. Apparently, the injury has been there for about a week, so it's not recent. That is, Sanji was hiding it from you.
Sanji freezes and stares at you with wide eyes and raised eyebrows, " Y/N-chan..." His voice, a stuttering timbre. "Why didn't you tell me?" You ask him as you crease your brow and twist your mouth, trying to think of a logical reason that explains why he'd done that.
Sanji is simply shocked. He presses his fingers firmly against the palm of his hand. As if he is holding on to the urge to do something he doesn't want at all. Unexpectedly, his eyes flood with tears. Sanji was holding back the urge to cry. Cry in front of you.
"No, don't cry!! I hate it when you cry!!" You give him the saddest look you've ever had. He's paralyzed from head to toe. The only movement you see as you look at him is the tears running down his cheeks.
"Sanji!!!!" You shout to him while you fight back the craving to cry. Hands lead to your forehead as you feel your bloodstream on fire. Sanji is not saying a thing. He is doing nothing but cries and staring at you while he does so. "God...This is breaking my heart." Your voice is in a whiney tone, implying an inevitable shedding of tears. Then, eventually, your eyes well up.
"J-just talk to me...Please." You beg. Sanji shakes his head slightly as if he is trying to take a kind of stupor away. He glances at you with a fake smile, "I'm sorry for not telling you." He wipes his tears with his left hand, "I don't know why I cried." Sanji artificially chuckles, "I'm okay."
The cooker is lying to you again, so you confront him, "Stop telling me you're okay!!!!!" You exclaim. Sanji looks surprised at you. Then you add, "I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong." And when he opens his mouth to answer you, you interrupt him, "And don't try lying to me again." You give him a severe look.
A bleak silence takes over the bathroom for about 10 seconds. Sanji keeps staring at you, hesitating to speak the truth.
But then, he decides to blow off steam to you. "I got hurt in a fight." He looks down, avoiding your glance, "I didn't wanna you to think..." A line appears between your brows. "To think I'm weak." He looks back at you, "Damn it! How pathetic am I for crying like a baby in front of you??!" Sanji sighs as he palms his forehead.
You give Sanji a once-over, "Sanji!!!". He wide-eyed stares at you, "Why would you think that??" You can't help but be nervous, "I can't..." You cross your arms, "I can't just sit by and do nothing when obviously you're suffering." Further, Sanji is hesitating again. He lights a cigarette as a down look fills his face. When, finally, he confesses, "My family... used to treat me like..." Sanji blows a cigarette smoke, "... like a failure because they thought I wasn't strong enough." Sanji admits as he squeezes his eyes shut, fighting back his tears. "I don't wanna you to think I'm a failure and to doubt my strength as they did." He adds, "That's why I hid my injuries from you." Sanji quivers his lips as you gradually approach him.
"Sanji..." you mumble his name while you walk towards him. He opens his tearful eyes and gazes at you. When, suddenly, you hug him like you're never going to let him go, "I'd never, under any circumstances..." You look up, trying to maintain eye contact with him, "...Think of you as a failure." You smile with your eyes and mouth at him.
Sanji is shaken. Now he's crying again. But with joy. He can't stop smiling and crying at the same time. He holds you even more tightly in his arms; even though it is painful for his injured shoulder, he doesn't care. It's like he's anesthetized at the moment.
"Mmm...You're warm." He says.
The words you just said ended up comforting Sanji's traumatized and troubled soul. "Now, let me treat your injury properly." You ask him with a grin.
Later, you're sitting on the edge of the bed with Sanji as you bandage his injured shoulder. When, suddenly, you stop bandaging and then, you kiss it, "If I could..." You say as you look at Sanji's profile face, "I'd kiss away all of your scars." Lovingly, you smile at him. At last, Sanji looks back at you.
A pleasant silence fills the room as he presses his forehead against yours, "I love you." Sanji whispers.

Definitely Not Affection

Fandom: One Piece Rating: PG Pairings: Gen Words: 3,100 Characters: Trafalgar Law, Roronoa Zoro Note: This was written for the “Hurts to Breathe” square on my Bad Things Happen Bingo @badthingshappenbingo card. Anon prompted platonic Zoro and Law.
Feel free to send prompts for additional fills!
Summary: On the way to Wano, Law treats his wounds from Dressrosa in the middle of the night. Zoro finds him. Snark (and definitely not affection) ensues.

It was a relentless ache deep in his chest that wrapped around to his back and jabbed at his lungs with each breath had Law putting down the book he’d been trying and failing to read for the last several hours and hobbling toward the infirmary in the ass hours of the morning. Not that he could actually tell the time of day by looking out a window when the Polar Tang was submerged, but after years of intimate acquaintance with insomnia, Law knew in his bones what it felt like to be awake when he should be asleep.
The ship—which was typically buzzing with activity from his rowdy bunch of idiots (it was only now that he wasn’t dead on Dressrosa that he’d allowed himself to acknowledge how much he’d missed them) and had only gotten more chaotic with the additional passengers on board—was quiet as Law moved down the hallways he knew like the back of his hand, the creaks of the metal and the hum of the engines combining into a familiar white noise that Law took great comfort in.
He let out a relieved breath as he reached the infirmary, only to wince at the sharp jolt that shot through his chest and side, straight through to his back. He grabbed onto the doorframe with his uninjured arm, fingers tightening painfully against the metal as the pain stole his breath. After several shallow breaths, the pain receded, and Law loosened his vise-like grip. He straightened as much as the lingering pain would allow before stepping inside the infirmary and flipping on the lights.
Law headed for the cabinets, where he pulled out fresh rolls of gauze, disinfectant, and painkillers. He laid them on the operating table then unbuttoned his shirt and shrugged out of it, discarding it alongside the pile of medical supplies. He carefully unwrapped the bandages around his chest, noting the watercolor of yellows, greens, and purples brushed across his ribs and the scabbed bullet hole wounds dotting his abdomen, giving the impression of a twisted paint-by-numbers scene. Satisfied that there was no visible sign of infection, he moved to his arm, removing the bandage around his bicep.
He grimaced as the unraveling gauze revealed an ugly knot of bruised and stitched-together skin. He could feel the fatigue and weakness in his arm as he flexed his fingers and tried to roll his shoulder. He shook his head; though the feeling and the strength of his grip were slowly returning, he couldn’t be sure that even with the aid of his fruit that his arm would ever return to full strength.
Once he finished his visual inspection of his wounds, Law opened a Room. He’d overextended himself so badly on Dressrosa that, days out from Zou, he was still struggling to hold a Room for more than a few minutes at a time. In the first couple of days after the fight, when he and the Straw Hats had been cooped up in Kyros’s cabin, Law had been the only doctor present, but he’d had to stick to traditional methods of treating his allies (and himself) since his Rooms would flicker out almost as soon as he tried to summon them.
Over the following days, he’d been able to open his Rooms for slightly longer periods, so he’d used the limited stamina he had to treat the most serious of his injuries while fending off infection (his arm was particularly primed for infection considering the poor conditions in which it had been repaired), preserving as much of his strength as he could afford. Of course, he wasn’t a freak of nature like Luffy or his crew who healed at, in Law’s professional opinion, completely ridiculous rates, so he had numerous lingering issues to address. And because he’d had to prioritize his internal damage from being shot with fucking lead bullets over more superficial concerns, he knew he’d be left with some ugly scars.
When they’d reunited with his crew on Zou, Law knew it hadn’t escaped their notice that he was the only one among the newly arrived group from Dressrosa to still be sporting bandages, but he hadn’t wanted them to worry any more than they already had, so he’d made sure to complete his treatments when they were sleeping. He’d thought he’d addressed the worst of his issues, but the persistent pain in his chest that kept awake—despite his body’s constant demand for sleep to heal—had him returning to the infirmary once more.
With the familiar blue glow of his Room around him, Law turned his attention inward. After a moment, he frowned then tapped his chest to remove his lung. He’d already repaired the damage done to it from getting shot in the back, and he could see the signs of scar tissue forming from the repair. That shouldn’t be causing the pain he was feeling now, though. He turned the organ around, studying it through narrowed eyes, ignoring the sweat beading on his forehead.
Then he noticed it: the beginnings of lead poisoning. Law had been so focused on preventing infection in his arm that he’d gotten complacent with the lung he thought he’d already treated. Law cursed himself silently; he should have expected the lead bullets to cause more than psychological damage. Thankfully, this was something he could handle.
As he concentrated on carefully removing the poison from his lung, he pushed aside the fatigue in his arms and ignored the tremors in his legs. His vision started greying at the edges, but Law shook his head slightly in an attempt to clear his sight. He needed to take care of this now.
He could do it before his Room failed.
He could…
His Room collapsed and his vision went dark.
-----
Consciousness slowly returned, and though the comforting embrace of sleep tried to call him back under, Law had the unshakeable feeling that he had something to do, so he cracked open his eyes. He was staring up at the ceiling of the infirmary. His head throbbed and he groaned, throwing a hand over his face to block out the light.
“Torao?”
Law frowned at the familiar voice and lowered his hand. He turned his head to see Zoro sitting in a chair next to the operating table, where Law was laid out. When had that happened?
“Zoro-ya?”
Zoro quirked an eyebrow at him. Law sighed, resigned, and turned his head to look back up at the ceiling.
“What happened?”
“I was talking a walk—”
“You mean you got lost,” Law corrected without thinking.
Zoro grunted but didn’t disagree. “I saw the lights on in here so came over. When I looked in, you were doing something with your Room.” He scratched the back of his head uncomfortably. “I didn’t want to mess you up, so I was about to leave. But then your Room dropped, and you passed out.”
Law grimaced at the ceiling. He’d pushed his limited stamina too hard. Bepo would kill him if he found out.
“I grabbed you and put you on the table, but I didn’t really know what else to do.”
“Did you tell anyone?” Law asked, looking back over at Zoro.
Zoro shook his head. “Didn’t want to leave.”
Law’s lips twitched. “You don’t know where their rooms are, do you?”
“Shut it,” Zoro retorted sourly.
“How long was I out?”
“Half an hour.”
Law nodded. That wasn’t too bad. He’d been known to sleep for an entire day when he’d taxed his powers too much, so half an hour meant he probably hadn’t done any lasting damage. He frowned then turned back to Zoro.
“Why were you up, anyway?”
Zoro shrugged. “Couldn’t sleep. I’m usually on watch on the Sunny.”
That made sense. Law’s crew had their own watch schedule well settled, so, though they’d offered, there was no need for the Straw Hats or Wano guests to take their turns. Zoro was probably also feeling cooped up after being submerged for several days since they’d left Zou. The Hearts were used to being below the surface for days at a time, but the experience was completely foreign to their passengers.
Deciding he felt stable enough, Law slowly pushed himself upright. Zoro made to help, but Law waved him off. Law shifted so his legs dangled off the edge of the table, but he didn’t try to stand.
“What were you doing?” Zoro countered once Law had settled himself.
Law had a deflection ready at the tip of his tongue, but he pursed his lips and tamped down on it. What was the point? Zoro had seen him in Dressrosa; hell, Zoro had been the one to practically carry Law to Kyros’s cabin after Doflamingo’s fall when Law had been barely conscious from exhaustion and blood loss. He also wasn’t crew—an ally, yes. But he wasn’t one of Law’s, someone Law needed to protect.
Law rubbed a tired hand over his face then gestured down at himself and the ugly remnants of Dressrosa. “Treating my injuries. Unlike you all, I still heal like a normal human.” He frowned as Zoro snorted a laugh, remembering what he’d been working on when he’d passed out. He glanced down at his chest, noting the empty space in his chest. “Where’s my lung?”
Zoro jerked his head toward the counter. Next to the sink, Law’s lung sat, no worse for wear though he must have dropped it when he’d blacked out, next to the medical supplies and his shirt. Law let out a relieved breath.
“In the middle of the night?”
Law blinked, taking a moment to recover the thread of conversation. “My nakama don’t need to see this.”
Zoro tilted his head, mild surprise playing across his face. “You think they would care?”
Law shook his head. “It’s not that. I…” He took a breath. “I left them months ago when I went to Punk Hazard. They didn’t like it, but I ordered them to go to Zou. I told them I’d meet them there, but I didn’t really expect to ever see them again after that.” The ferocity of Bepo’s hug when they’d reunited on Zou, the way Shachi and Penguin wouldn’t leave his side until Law had to Shamble them away with the little bit of strength he had to spare, the relief in Ikkaku’s and Jean Bart’s eyes… It all ran through Law’s mind, guilt gnawing at his insides. “I think they knew.”
“So, you don’t want them to worry any more than they already have,” Zoro supplied.
“Something like that.”
“No offense, Torao—” Law snorted. Zoro never gave a shit about giving offense. “But that’s bullshit.”
Law raised an eyebrow.
“Who else can you trust at your worst if not your nakama?”
Irritation rushed through Law at that. “I didn’t ask for advice on being a captain on my own ship, Zoro-ya,” he snapped.
Zoro raised his hands, visibly backing off, and the irritation left Law’s veins as quickly as it had come on. Law sighed.
“Apologies.” Dressrosa and the reunion with his crew were still fresh, leaving Law feeling rawer than he had in years.
Zoro grunted, which Law took as an acceptance of the apology, before looking between the organ on the counter and Law. “What do you need?”
“Huh?” Law asked intelligently.
“With your lung.” Zoro shook his head. “That will never not be freaky, by the way.”
Law huffed a laugh. “So I’ve been told.” He let out a breath. “I found some signs of lead poisoning in my lung,” he said. “I was trying to fix it before…” Before his stamina ran out and Zoro had to fucking catch him.
That could never leave this room.
“Lead poisoning?”
“From Doflamingo’s bullets.”
“Bastard,” Zoro muttered, shaking his head.
“I need to fix it before returning my lung to my body.”
Zoro eyed him. “You up for that?”
“I was almost done,” Law deflected.
Zoro snorted, recognizing the diversion but not calling him on it. He pushed himself to his feet and stretched before heading over to the counter.
“What are you doing?” Law asked, frowning after him.
Zoro glanced over his shoulder. “Getting your damn lung, weirdo.”
Law opened his mouth but shut it again when nothing came out. Zoro nodded at his silence and carefully picked up the encased lung. He handled it with gentleness that Law thought should have surprised him but somehow didn’t. The swordsman returned with the organ and held it out.
Law nodded his thanks and took it in his left hand. He used his right hand to brace himself as he stood, but the arm buckled under him as he put pressure on it. He kept forgetting about the injury to his dominant arm. He cursed as Zoro reached out with a hand to steady him. Law took a steadying breath then pushed Zoro’s hand off him. Zoro’s lips twitched in response, but he didn’t say anything. However, Law noticed distantly as he summoned a Room, Zoro’s eyes never left Law’s face as Law finished removing the remnants of lead poisoning from his lung, as if looking for any sign of weakness.
Law wasn’t sure what to do with that realization as he slid his repaired lung back into his chest. He dropped his Room and took a test breath.
No pain.
Law nodded, and Zoro’s shoulders dropped the tension they’d been holding.
“You don’t need to stay, Zoro-ya,” Law said tiredly, leaning back against the operating table. “I still need to clean and redress my wounds.”
Zoro raised an eyebrow before silently retreating to the counter to grab the supplies Law had gathered earlier and returning with them. He set them on the table next to Law then crossed his arms, as if daring Law to kick him out.
Law huffed a breath at the other man’s stubbornness but didn’t push further. Practiced hands made quick work of disinfecting the bullet wounds and the stitching on his arm. However, Law could feel the effects of overusing his fruit creeping in, and his hands were starting to shake as he wrapped the bandages around his chest.
Finally, Zoro uncrossed his arms and stepped forward. “I’ll do it.”
Law frowned but didn’t fight as the swordsman plucked the roll of gauze from his weary fingers. “Zoro-ya?”
“Do you know how many times I’ve done this for Luffy after a fight?” he muttered as he quickly and efficiently finished wrapping Law’s torso before looking for scissors to cut it off. Law opened a quick Room and Shambled scissors from a drawer into his hands.
Zoro frowned as Law offered them to him then shook his head. “Idiot.”
“I don’t want to hear that from you,” Law muttered as Zoro tied off the bandages then moved to Law’s arm.
“Then don’t act like one,” Zoro countered. “You and he are more alike than you know.”
Law snorted but allowed the other man to finish his task, mind drifting with the steadiness of Zoro’s presence at his side. Maybe there was something to what Zoro had said about allowing his nakama in; Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin were allowed to see more than anyone else since they had been with Law the longest, but he kept a distance even with them when it came to his revenge plot. If he was being honest with himself, he knew he hadn’t opened up to them about his plans for Dressrosa because they might have succeeded in talking him out of it, and Law hadn’t known how to do anything but live for avenging Cora-san for more than a decade.
Now that Cora-san had been avenged and Law was still alive, he wasn’t entirely sure what to do with himself. He could throw himself into the task directly in front of him—taking on Kaido—but (assuming they survived) then what?
Once Zoro tied off the bandage on his arm, Law lifted his arm to test it. Firmly tied but not too tight.
“Not bad,” he allowed.
Zoro smirked as he stepped back. “Better than that and you know it.”
“Don’t push it.”
“You done here?”
Law nodded then definitely did not yelp in surprise as he was pulled up and onto Zoro’s back. Zoro’s lips quirked upward as he adjusted Law’s mostly dead weight, arms wrapping around Law’s thighs.
Law leaned over Zoro’s shoulder with narrowed his eyes. “Shut it, Zoro-ya.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“And if you do, you’ll regret it.”
“Oh?” Challenge sparkled in Zoro’s eye. Law rolled his eyes. They both knew he was in no shape to fight Zoro right now.
But fighting wasn’t Law’s only leverage. “If you say a word about this, I will have my crew get rid of all the alcohol on board,” he threatened. “Dry ship until we get to Wano.”
Zoro went rigid. “You wouldn’t.”
Law’s lip pulled back into a vicious smirk of his own. “Try me.”
Zoro grumbled but stepped out into the hallway and followed Law’s directions to his cabin, only having to backtrack twice. Law would never admit it aloud, but he was grateful for the support. His strength had flagged, and his eyes were drooping as if his body had only just realized that it was the middle of the night and he should be sleeping. By the time they reached Law’s door, Law was giving directions around yawns and thumping Zoro in the thigh with his heel each time the younger man grinned in response.
“Let me down, Zoro-ya,” Law demanded without much energy behind it.
But Zoro ignored him and opened the door. He stepped inside and glanced around in mild interest before heading for Law’s bed. He turned around and dumped Law onto the mattress, letting him bounce a couple of times. With a hmph, Law leaned over to pull off his boots and kicked them over the side of the bed. His shoes off, he looked up to see Zoro dropping into his desk chair.
Law raised an eyebrow. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Sitting.”
“At my desk.”
Zoro hummed in response, crossing his arms against his chest and shutting his eye. Law rolled his eyes in response as a light snore echoed through the room. The Straw Hats were truly just as stubborn and ridiculous as their captain.
And that was definitely not affection he felt toward them because of it.
Defeated and exhausted, Law turned off the light and smirked at the yelp of surprise when he hurled a pillow at Zoro’s face.

Hello! Could I request how would Luffy, Robin, and Shanks react/think to finding out their s/o is a sea dragon? Thank you, love your work!
Heyya! Thank you !! 🍀 and sure thing, hope you enjoy~
Askbox: Currently open
(Gender Neutral)
Headcanons: Luffy, Robin, Shanks – Reacting to their S/O being a Sea Dragon.
Okay so to still stick along the lines of One Piece lore here is some background for {Name} - {Name} had eaten the Ryu Ryu no Mi: model: Sea Dragon fruit, while in human form they are affected by seawater and kairoseki all the same, but if in their Sea Dragon form, due to it’s nature they are exceptions to the seawater rule. – But the exhaustion will catch up in their human form.
Monkey D. Luffy
🍖Luffy was going about his usual routine of making his crewmates laugh with his silly antics, his current ‘audience’ was Brook, Chopper and {Name}, continuing doing some of his tricks until a sudden loss of footing caused Luffy to fall off the side of the ship and into the ocean.
🍖Brook and Chopper freaked out, calling for help, for someone to save Luffy as {Name} jumped off the side, the shadow cast on the ship by their body suddenly morphed into something much bigger
🍖 Luffy found himself sinking as he watched the surface growing more distant, finally seeing something large approaching him, likening it to a sea king but somehow different. Retrieving him and swimming back to the surface they placed Luffy on the deck, whilst the rest of the crew had gathered due to the commotion.
🍖 Luffy finally regaining consciousness and looking up at the concerned faces of his crew, and noticing the mysterious creature that was looking at him, he sprung up and looked at it, seeming to inspect it. Of course everyone else had been wondering about the mysterious creature that saved Luffy and Chopper’s voice finally broke out as he was crying “{NAME} WENT IN TO GET LUFFY! WHERE ARE THEY?!”
🍖 “I’m right here…” – Everyone looked around frantically for {Name}, “Up here” everyone’s eyes fixated to the creature as it spoke – “I’m {Name}”; noticeably shrinking in stature as {Name} was left soaked in sea water, falling to the deck in exhaustion as Luffy began excitedly buzzing around them. “How did you do that????!” “That’s so cool!” “{Name} teach me!”
🍖{Name} tried their best to answer all the questions and explained that they were also a devil fruit eater, however due to their model, they somehow became an exception to the hammer rule only when in that form – the price was intense exhaustion and not being able to move for a bit after that. Luffy was enthralled with their transformation and constantly asked them to transform just so he could see it again and again.
🍖Thinks it’s incredibly awesome and sometimes acts jealous about not being able to do that himself, he also tends to ask questions like: “Would you fight sea kings?”
Nico Robin
📚Robin was reading at her usual place on the ship, when {Name} suddenly plonked something down, a sealed treasure chest, explaining to Robin that it seemed old and they wanted to see if Robin knew something about it – if it was an artefact or something along those lines.
📚Robin was looking over at the box and her eyes lit up, explaining it was indeed an artefact as she opened it to reveal some things like engravings, waterlogged tapestries and other trinkets. Having a fun time which made {Name} extremely happy to see when Robin got that little sparkle in her eye when doing something she loves, she asked {Name} if there were more and where they had found it.
📚However Robin was discouraged upon finding out that it was the bottom of the ocean, to which {Name} replied that they would recover more things and bring it up
📚Awhile later… Robin goes back to researching the treasure chest and its contents when a Sea dragon pokes its head out of the water and approaches her on the ship, she seems startled as she notices it having a full mouth, spitting up a whole bunch of treasure and such from the shipwreck, Robin seems shocked – but stranger things have happened and asks if {Name} got it to help them…
📚“This is all the salvageable things Robin” – the Sea dragon speaks and Robin seems shocked but understands that {Name} is the sea dragon, trying to keep her composure, she coughs and asks {Name} to turn back, when {Name} does they are met with Robin being very close, inspecting them everywhere
📚 Robin is genuinely impressed by {Name} and finding out about the devil fruit as well as the exception rule, which is the first she had ever heard of it. Was met with so much more fascination that even the artefacts went ignored.
📚Questions, inspections and even asking {Name} to do transformations so she can see them in their full glory, as she found {Name} breathtaking and extremely majestic in that form.
📚 Thinks {Name} is absolutely adorable as well (But she kept this one to herself)
Shanks
☠ The sea seemed to be extremely rough, though with no signs in the weather, it was pretty obvious that something would arise later, feeling the tension on the air as Shanks was looking out into the ocean, but the many years of being pirate he could definitely keep steady footing in an unstable ship, the same could not yet be said for his S/O who found themselves being thrown off the side when the ship hit a very rough wave
☠Shanks wasted no time diving in to get {Name} calling out for them, when he wasn’t able to find them, diving in deeper he picked up the presence of something very large approaching him as his head popped up above the surface
☠Coming face to face with an extremely large Sea King, one that had made previous encounters feel much smaller Shanks felt a sense of excitement and nervousness arise, still wanting to search for {Name}
☠ Although he was prepared to use Haki, it was unnecessary as something came rushing past him, nearly washing him away with the force of the water as they block him out of the view of the sea king and stared it down, until it eventually leaves and the creature turns towards Shanks and leans down, a smile on his face as his hand touches the scales of the sea dragon – “Are you alright Shanks?”
☠Shanks is genuinely surprised but smiles none the less and laughs – “Well then, this explains a lot” Name looks at him quizzically and helps him back to the ship as they climb aboard, their legs getting shaky as they plop on deck, in exhaustion
☠ “Almost seems as if you’re a devil fruit user, but you didn’t sink” – Shanks cracks his curious statement and makes a joke about {Name] being a total dragon when they’re angry or hungry
☠ Although he was truly shocked, he had somehow known there was an underlying power that {Name} possessed never would he have expected to be something such as the ability to turn into a full sea dragon however.

Ok but imagine the strawhat pirates trying to prepare luffy for his first date
Wait this is hilarious
You are probably in the girls room, not noticing how the other members harassed Luffy the whole evening over, just trying to get ready by yourself, already excited to explore the new island you landed on some hours earlier with Luffy.

Do you think the Seven warlords are used to their best potential? I always felt they were the weakest link compared to emperors and admirals.
So y’all are picking topics that I’ve written about before. Short answer, I think the Warlord system has been brilliantly implemented within the series. For the answer, click on the link https://creative-type.tumblr.com/post/173506105506/several-months-ago-someone-asked-what-i-thought.
But to expand on your point of the Seven Warlords being a weak link between the Admirals and the Emperors, that’s kind of the point. At some point in time the World Government realized that if one of these mega-powerful pirates ever decided to openly challenge them, there was as good chance that they wouldn’t win. The Warlords are in essence mercenaries, and no one hires out a bunch of firepower unless they feel like they need it, nor are they going to put people on their payroll that they think are too strong for them to control.
The Warlord system exposes the blinding hypocrisy within the WG. I mean, how can an organization kill babies in the name of “justice” allow themselves to ally with actual murderers? The Warlords were born out of and benefit from a corrupt system, and it makes me wonder of Sengoku knew about Ace’s parentage before sending out his invitation to join. If so, he was offering blanket immunity to the same guy he would later have publicly put to death as one of the worst criminals of the age.
You kind of get the impression while reading that the Warlords as a system haven’t been around all that long, which would make sense because I don’t think the idea of Pirate Emperors has been around all that long either.
While there have always been extremely powerful pirates roaming around trying to build up a base of power (thinking about Shiki’s rivalry with Roger and the Rocks Pirates) Roger’s death is what sparked the current pirate age, inspiring a huge number of people to go to sea who might not otherwise have become pirates. Even if the Marines are able to contend with the Emperors they can’t concentrate all their power in the New World since its their responsibility to police the entire world.
There are a pressing few pirates that 1) can strike the fear of god into other pirates 2) are willing to work with the WG and 3) the Government feel that they can at least somewhat control. And that last one is pretty iffy, considering that the only Warlord they could get to regularly show up for meetings was the one who was also secretly a Revolutionary spy.
But as with most things the WG does, the appearance of control and order and justice and power is just as important as actual order, justice, and power. That’s why its such a big deal when Crocodile gets arrested and why they were quick to hush up Moriah’s embarrassing losses—going so far as to try and quietly kill him when it becomes apparent that he’s not the military asset he once was.
And of course pirates are going to notice this desperate need to maintain power in a world that’s quickly spinning out of control. And, of course, pirates are going to take advantage of the system. Like Smoker says during Alabasta, they’re pirates. How can you expect men and women who have lived outside the law for the majority of their adult lives to suddenly play by the rules? The flaws were already there—Luffy just exposed them, first with Crocodile, then with Moriah, and when the system finally breaks down to the point where Buggy’s your best option to fill in the ranks then you know it’s doomed to fail.
What I like about the Warlords is that they served a very distinct purpose, both in terms of worldbuilding and as a stepping stone for Luffy on his journey to become the Pirate King, and when the story outgrew them Oda didn’t strain himself trying to find reasons to keep them around. Around the time of the timeskip I found myself really hoping that they would just go away, and I think that’s about the only time I’ve predicted something that actually ended up happening within the story.
So are they weak compared to the Emperors and the Admirals? Maybe. But remember, the balance of power is such that all the Admirals and all the Warlords were needed to face one of the Four Emperors. There’s a reason why the marines were freaking out when Shanks decided to pay Whitebeard a visit.
The difference in strength is seen by the influence they have over the world. Most of the original Warlords were in control of one (1) kingdom, or working toward such a goal. They, generally speaking, were the head of a single core crew.
The Emperors control large swaths of the New World and have the military power to match. They have subservient crews and have the power to collect taxes from the territories they control, so say nothing of the underworld businesses and economies they rule over with an iron fist.
You can see how that sort of progression works for a guy like Luffy. He starts off going against pirates and marines who have no influence in global politics, works his way up to fighting people who are important to a single island or region, and has now forced himself onto the world stage and is challenging literal forces of nature that have been deadlocked for decades in a power struggle that, should it go the wrong way, could destroy the world as we know it.
Its power creep done right, and the Warlords are a big reason as to why it works.
