I’ve had a lot of people ask me about the ‘white stuff’ I’m using on my Alexstrasza (and Mera) cosplay, and then people asking how it works :D The product is Foam Clay from @luminsworkshop and here is a snippet of how I use it :D I’m recording the entire making of process of this costume, so you’ll see more of this :D The best way to describe this stuff is super light Clay that’s actually foam haha. I've been pretty lazy while making this, so progress is slow. But I'm pretty happy with how the shape of my chest armour is so far. Ignore all the glue, that will be sanded off before I prime and paint. This foam is incredible to work with. It's so dense and takes to the contact glue fantastically. Plus is has no small holes or imperfections like what I'm used to working with. This is the process I used for making my Spyro wings. Props and armor are new to me still so I was kinda just making this up as I went. • I vaguely measured, at the dress form, the size I wanted the wings to be and hand drew them onto newsprint, using my design sketch as reference. • I made a cardstock stencil from the sketch and used that to trace out the foam pieces. • I didn’t take good photos of the next step but I then sandwiched 16g wire and the fabric between the two foam layers. I used hot glue to keep the wire and fabric in place first then contact cemented the layers together so the foam would be seamless. It worked really well through the taffeta. • I then spent time to round out the wings joints, veins, and created little talons using @luminsworkshop foam clay from @ardawigs. This was my second time using the stuff and it really is amazing. After a good 24-48 hours (depending on thickness) I was able to drenmel smooth. • Then I taped off the fabric to plastidip the wing before painting. • Painted using a mix of @liquitexofficial and @plaidcrafts paints. As much as I might be an old lady, I’m still obsessed with plushies. They’re my favourite prop for a cosplay, I almost always buy one while I’m on vacation, and I still sleep with the same stuffed leopard I’ve had since I was five years old. These babies come from @buildabear - and I hope to eventually have all of the main five dragons - and both have crazy stories with their purchases. . . . Toothless was bought from a BAB in Bournemouth, England after my Topdeck trip in February 2017. I saw him in the window and made my travel buddies stop so I could buy him. I’m sure they thought I was crazy. He spent the flight home snuggled in my suitcase a week-ish later. . . . Stormfly was purchased during NYCC 2018. I spotted her hanging and made a bee-line, basically throwing my money at the guy running the booth. I was in Margaery and the irony is not lost on me. These travel buddies didn’t think I was crazy - they were so excited for me! She came home with me on the plane. . . . Those are my crazy-plushy-lady stories! But I don’t regret any of them, and I love that they all have stories attached to them. Because stories are the best. Okay I’m done rambling now! . . . 3rd batch of Free! anime locations! You’re free after this haha! These shots are all from the new season Dive to the Future!, and I think this was the most fun/exhausting day of weeb trashing. We got up early to go swim at the North Sydney Olympic Pool, a salt water pool right next to the Harbour bridge!! The weather was perfect and I really loved our time there, but man, swimming zaps energy fast, so I was struggling to keep up the rest of the day. To recreate the night scene, I dragged our group all the way around the Quay to Blue Point Reserve at around 11pm (Lyyyyyfy) and made my friends stand still in the wind while we figured out the camera settings. 😬 Honestly, thank you so much to @_kcoz, @amenokitarou, @alita_b_angel, @luminsworkshop and Brian for playing along with my bizarre hobby. I don’t make it to Australia often and this was such a treat to weeb out with friends. I would SO do this with Hero Academia locations but they are all made up haha.
