Was walking on the path of a nature trail and there wasnt anything too interesting in terms of plants. There was all generic green vegetation until I cross a bridge and look to the left and see these hiding, yet standing out colorfully. I had to get some photos after the excitement I felt.

There’s only so much a zoom lens could do, so I started approaching this gorgeous killdeer and as I would get closer she began to spread her wings (showing her beautiful orange feathers seen in the top right) and begin chirping very loudly. It was only during a FaceTime call with my mom where she would tell me that the bird was probably doing that to protect her eggs. After a quick check at my photos, I realized she was right.

I guess mothers recognize each other in every life form.

"Goosechase" is the observational documentary of three monks living in a solitary Monastery north of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Tucked away in the rolling hills beside the LeHave River, the Monks of the Hermitage of the Annunciation spend their days praying, working, and studying. This is not a story about the individual Monks, but rather their way of life, and the Rule that guides their actions and thoughts as they go about their Holy Business. It touches upon the nearly mystical Annunciation of Mary, the methods they use to find peace and stillness, and the key theology of their order and faith.

"Goosechase" was filmed, edited and produced by David Veldman. It was a Finalist in the Lunenburg 2021 Documentary Film Festival. Shot on a #Lumix #G7 camera.
