Wired similarity between Mamma Mia! (2008) and Les Misérables (2012). Amanda Seyfried doesn't really know who her father is.

this is a 2012 film adaptation hate post. what a travesty. it’s truly sad that for so many this is their first impression of les misérables. first of all it’s ugly, unwatchably ugly. every single solo is filmed so close to the actor that we are literally looking into their pores and listening from within their snotty crying nostrils. they ruined every single song, not a single one was even listenable. ironically the master of the house scene is was maybe the most enjoyable, maybe because it’s hard to fuck up such a fun ensemble number, and that whirling camerawork felt appropriate to a boozy tavern (even if it was inappropriate in virtually every other scene and had a somewhat blair witch esque motion sickness effect, on me at least). and yet their master of the house is still nothing compared to any given staged recording.
and i deeply resent the lack of self awareness which is inherent in an american company casting the thénardiers as attractive and almost likeable. the thénardiers represent everything this film version and the american propaganda film machine overall represent: greed, classism, poor taste, and badly executed ideas. Of course this fucking travesty of an adaptation sexed them up - it’s so, so american. in fact everyone had cleavage for no reason.
when i saw it in theatres in 2012 i was living in nyc, it was on a double date with a playwright i was in a relationship with at the time and my two bffs who are both artists and one is literalt an independent filmmaker and producer (and her ex who was an evil warlock was also present but that’s neither here nor there). we left the theatre discussing how this era in american filmmaking would be remembered as the most vapid, overblown, self-important, and overall unwatchable era in the history of the medium worldwide. we discussed how american film has become an artless shell of what hollywood used to be, which even in its golden age was still mediocre compared to international cinemas. the 2012 les mis was the most gaudy, tacky, tonedeaf, ugly, ham-fisted adaptation of a book that the four of us (edit: five, i forgot the warlock) had ever seen. and we had just watched the same year’s insult to anna karenina.
it was as though the thénardiers themselves were directors. we do know monsieur emigrated to the colonies, after all.
and i would be Unsurprised if we later discovered the film was entirely recorded, edited, and mastered by one unpaid six year old

I was not around for the 2013-2016 les mis golden era but looking at George Blagden and Aaron Tveit it does not surprise me that enjoltaire went triple platinum, it’s like they made those guys in a factory specifically to appeal to tumblrinas of that era

How successful would Jean Valjean…

Propaganda for the wrestling skills:
doubt he would ever want to do this sort of thing. Unfortunately for him, he’d probably be pretty good at it.

I started watching BBCs Les Misérables (2018) I am half way through.
Because of Joseph Quinn
Because I was curious of a new adaption of the story
I have seen the 2012 Musical and the 1998 Movie and a surprisingly good stage play with amateur actors.
I have seen the 2012 Musical I guess a hundert times. And while I was watching the BBC adaption I began to sing the songs from the Musical that would have come in the Musical-Version in specific Scenes. That was kinda funny and wired.
But so far I like the BBC adaption, I like their way of storytelling and how they really show how the characters are connected. I mean I love the Musical but, sometimes you don't get why some characters are connected you just know they are.
