A reminder for anyone considering not voting in the November US election because of Biden’s actions on Israel: things will be worse under Trump. The two are not equivalent.
Today’s Washington Post includes this headline: “Trump told donors he will crush pro-Palestinian protests, deport protestors.”
So…vote. Vote up and down the ballot, vote in your local elections, make your vote count.
And don’t even get me started on the stark differences in views on social safety nets, LGBTQ+ rights, Black Lives Matter, immigration, abortion rights, gun laws, environmental regulations, the list goes on and on.

Americans, please vote!
I know this isn’t what I usually post, but for Americans, Election Day is tomorrow and our future depends on who we vote for. Even if you feel like your vote won’t make a difference, we don’t know until it’s over.
It’s best to make an effort and know you did everything you could to protect yourself and those you love. You don’t have to agree with every single policy of a candidate, but we need to be smart and choose wisely of who will be best fit to lead our country.
Vote for women’s rights, lgbtq rights, democracy, optimism, small businesses, education, future children, healthcare and more.
Tomorrow is the last day to vote, so please make sure to have a plan and make your voice heard! Do it for yourself, do it for your loved ones, do it for your community. 💙💙💙

Hey, USians: Make a plan to vote.
The GOP and MAGAts are.
Talk to your friends and plan for rides to the polls for whoever needs it
Make sure you are registered to vote, and check AGAIN two months before the election (early September) because some states are already purging voting rolls
Check to see if the state you are registered to vote in (like mine) has mail in ballots. They are so convenient!
Only give your filled out ballot to a pollworker 🗳️, your mail person 📬, or someone you know and trust to turn it in for you. My state requires both the voter and the person delivering the ballot for them to sign the envelope, yours might be different
Have coffee ☕ lunch or dinner with someone who's interested in issues or people down ballot (the non presidential races, local elections, and state initiatives). My mom's a politics junkie and I always learn so much from her
If you have energy and time, maybe apply to be a pollworker. I've enjoyed and been frustrated working five different elections, and yet Do Recommend . It feels good to contribute like that, and see people who are excited to vote. I met first time voters and people who have voted for over 60 years.
Fight the despair, and put your fury to use: building your social networks and your mutual aid circles. Feed the hungry, look after children, help people register to vote?
I'll be back with more ideas later. I gotta keep working on this UNPRECEDENTED and horrible timeline and since I don't have a Time Stone to fix it or change it, I have to figure out how to help make things better NOW with CONCRETE ACTIONS AND PLANS. Things I can actually DO.

there is a HUGE line outside the library for early voting!!
i am so happy :D
and there were plenty of Harris-Walz signs outside, and only one lonely 7rump sign
in other news, i'm glad i brought my hoodie inside. it's freaking cold in here, but 80 degrees outside. my body is like @_@
i wonder how early i have to get here to snag the little booth in the corner, away from people... because there's a guy sitting near me on his phone. i don't mind people on their phone for a few minutes, but this guy is holding a god damn meeting. go use one of the study rooms, dammit!
okay. enough onerous old man ranting from me
i picked up a book of poems by alejandra pizarnik. the poems i've read so far are lovely. i've marked many that have caught my attention
okay, i should maybe do what i meant to do by coming here...

Someone in the notes is already trying to say voting doesn’t count as harm reduction, and I want to clear, in our current system, it absolutely does. This post that I previously reblogged explains it far more elegantly than I can, but please don’t let anyone convince you to withhold your vote because you’re waiting for a perfect candidate/party. The election isn’t a boycott. Refusing to vote just takes your voice out of the situation.
Just reblogged a post about harm reduction, and it reminded me that in my own personal life, learning about harm reduction was what finally started the cognitive dissonance that allowed me to start questioning my conservative Catholic upbringing. I was doing basic science research and shadowing with an infectious disease doctor once a week the summer after my freshman year of college, and he gave me ‘And the Band Played On’ to read as homework (which as a teen who read the focus on the family book on puberty as “sex ed” was truly a startling experience), and in the midst of that I met real life gay men who’d live through the start of the AIDS epidemic. And I just couldn’t understand how it made sense to say “condoms are bad, hard stop,” when even if I didn’t “agree with the lifestyle” (deep sigh from my now-bisexual self), I still didn’t want people to die or get a disease if we could prevent it. That’s where I started questioning the mentality of consequences and punishments and burdens that had been deeply instilled in me from childhood. That concept opened the door to supporting needle exchange and rejecting my anti-abortion upbringing and making the speed run from homophobic to ally to oh wait this is me. The next decade of questioning everything while I trained in medicine was exhausting and unsettling and fundamentally changed me, but I’m so grateful I had the chance to change.
For me, the concept of harm reduction was the crack that let the light in.

My latest action to help get out the vote in Indiana. So many people write to swing states it’s hard to find a way to make an impact where I live. I found this campaign to send letters to voters up in Northwest Indiana, who are likely to vote blue, just to give them a nudge and to encourage them to spread the word so we can get the majority out to vote. I signed up to write 20 letters to start, hoping to do more and get them all sent out this week. My poor arthritic hand shall not fail me. 😂🌊💙

If you live in the US, STOP SCROLLING
This is your reminder to make a Voting Plan!
Step 1: Check your Registration
Registered already? Go to Step 3!
Step 2: Register to Vote
Step 3: Learn about your state's Early Voting Options
Like early voting and have that option? Skip to Step 5!
Step 4: Explore your Day-Of Voting Options
Step 5: Research Candidates
Step 6: Share your Plans
Detailed sample down below!
Step 1: I'm in California, so I clicked here at https://www.vote411.org/check-registration
Tumblr media
Clicking on that took me to my state's registration check page, where I filled out in those fun black squares with my info...
Tumblr media
...and there's my confirmation! This also provides info on where I'm currently registered to vote, which is good to know when looking up ballot drop-off locations.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Since I already am registered I could skip this, but just to show it off here's what the online tool at https://www.vote411.org/register looks like!
Tumblr media
The site asks you to put in your name and mailing address, and then sends you off to your own state's voter registration page to finish it up!
Step 3: Since I'm in California, I went to https://www.vote411.org/select-state and selected that state to bring up CA's voting information page.
Tumblr media
And here's what my info looks like! The top of the page gives a quick overview of registration deadlines...
Tumblr media
...and scrolling down reveals a bunch of additional info for any further questions! I've selected Early Voting on the lefthand tab to bring that up here.
Tumblr media
Skimming this, it looks like California offers voting by mail, which is what I want to do.
Scrolling further down the lefthand menu I pulled up the Vote by Mail tab to learn more...
Tumblr media
...and based on the information there I went to find the tab that would tell me about Drop Boxes in California!
Tumblr media
Following that link brings me to California's early voting drop-off page.
Tumblr media
For now let's just use Disneyland as our address to see where we can drop things off. Entering the county and city information we get this list:
Tumblr media
Checking the box to Display Results on Map, it looks like there's a drop off location right by Disney that is open 24 hours! I went ahead and screenshotted the address on my computer, and opened it in google maps so that I could keep track of where it was.
Tumblr media
Perfect, I now have a plan for dropping off my mail-in ballot!
Finally, I want to know where my mail-in ballot is. Assuming you live in a state with mail-in ballots but haven't seen yours yet, you can usually track them or request new ones if your address has recently changed.
I just googled "California mail in ballot tracking" and wound up on this page.
Tumblr media
Filling out the little form at the Where'sMyBallot link (name and date of birth), I can see that my ballot has been sent out and is en route!
Tumblr media
Since it was sent on October 7th, I suspect it's already arrived, and lo and behold checking my mailbox there it is buried under all the political mailers!
Step 4: Since I will be voting by mail, I will skip Step 4 for now (though vote411.org lists traditional voting areas/what I'd need to bring so that's where I'd get that info if needed!)
Step 5: When doing research I started with https://www.vote411.org/ballot, since it gives a preview image of all of the items that will be on my ballot based on my address.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can click on any of these to see the candidate options, and their statements if they've been provided. However for many of these options on vote411.org there aren't too many additional details, so I want to do my own research looking at neutral voting summaries and candidate endorsements by groups I align with politically!
For the election summary, I started with the General Election Official Voter Information Guide booklet that was mailed to my address a few weeks ago. This is the best source of unbiased voting information in my opinion, especially when it comes to state and local propositions since it will summarize them and also include opinion pieces written for and against each one. You can also access it online, as shown below!
Tumblr media
To find it, I googled "California Official Voter Information Guide", and made sure it was sourced from my local government.
Another good source of information I used is npr.org, or National Public Radio. NPR provides news that is free to read and listen to, and is one of my personal favorite ways to stay informed. There's also local branches of the station for every state, and each one will usually have a voting guide with side-by-side comparisons that makes it easy to read.
To find mine, I googled "California NPR Voting Guide"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally if there was anything on the ballot where I wasn't convinced one way or the other on certain candidates or initiatives, I checked out some political endorsements!
A few of the ones I looked at are Planned Parenthood (women's health and abortion access), the Sunrise Movement (climate activism), the Sierra Club (climate change, national park preservation). I found these by googling "[Name of org] voting guide california".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since I'm voting by mail I could keep these webpages opened as I filled out my ballot.
For voting in person, I'd recommend writing candidates down as a cheat sheet to bring into the poll so you can remember what you want to vote for! https://www.vote411.org/ballot will let you arrange that cheat sheet real easily.
Now that my ballot is filled out I'll just drop it off at the address I found in Step 3 - setting a time for myself, I'll plan to drop it off when I go for a walk this afternoon! 👍
Step 6:
After I finished up I went ahead and posted on facebook and to my friends in discord on how I'd made a voting plan, to help encourage friends/family to do the same!
You can be as public or as personal as you want here, but sharing can help encourage others to put a plan together too - if you made it this far it can even be as simple as reblogging this post with a message saying "I Made a Voting Plan"!

I AM AT MY LIMIT
Snoopy #90
30/12/2024
description under the cut
[description: a cartoon-style drawing of Snoopy's head. Snoopy is a white dog with black ears. His eyes are shut and his mouth is a horizontal line. There are two large blue teardrops, one under each eye. The text "I am at my limit" is handwritten across the top of the image.]
#peanuts#snoopy#art#90#based on that emoji face meme but i can't find the original ANYWHERE#at least not the entire image unedited. other than on like redbubble listings but i don't want to link those haha#if someone has a link to it please send it to me!! so i can link it in the post. thanks :)#also i have decided to start doing descriptions for each image (which i have been meaning to do for a while)#now that people actually follow this blog and interact with it and stuff#tbh i should've started doing them a long time ago#but the idea of retroactively going back to every post and adding a description kept putting me off... which is silly because it's only#gonna become more work the longer i leave it. so you know. just gotta start doing it#i will endeavour to add a description to all the previous snoopys of the day soon 🤞#anyway i made this because i sent a friend the original emoji image (taken from a redbubble screenshot LOL)#because we have been trying to book a place to stay for a group trip (6 people)#and like i did all the research and made a list to start us off (while letting people know they could add to the list) and sent that around#and made a poll for people to vote for their preferred place#and some people in the group have been taking FOREVER to respond with their opinions about accommodation#like to the point where all the other good places on the list have been booked up now and there is just one left#which luckily is the one with the most votes#and today i was like (about to book that one) ok well before i book i'm just checking that everyone is ok with these dates?#and some of them were like ohhh actually no. we haven't booked our flights yet so we're not sure which days exactly we'll be there#WHAT DO YOU MEAN!#in fairness i should've checked that we were all on the same page about dates beforehand#but like. the trip is literally in like 5 weeks AND during a public holiday like omfggggggg everywhere is gonna be booked out#do you know how hard it is to find accommodation for 6 people#and i don't even know the people who haven't been responding/haven't booked their flights/whatever#they're friends of a friend (who will also be coming on the trip) and i know nothing about them#i think i would be a lot less annoyed if it was just my friends because we would've just hopped on a call and sorted everything out in like#one night. otherwise we know + trust each other enough to make decisions for each other if we can't/don't want to be involved in planning
