Just popping back on here to say @booksnwriting is back on her bullshit again.
Honestly, she's a stain on the entire gwynriel community. And, of course, because that's all she knows how to do, she decided to make a post to point at one of my dear friends on Instagram because she called her out for her trash takes (this one was a word salad on my friend's comment about hating Lidia and then Rhys slander...not as egregious as her calling Rhys a fucking sex worker. Still can't forget that one. So yeah, it's cAnOn that your takes ARE trash, babe), and then made a post on her own page about it with a screenshot from my friend's page.
Report the post on Instagram if you can, then block. I reported before blocking her because I don't need her special brand of toxic stupidity in my life.

You will never be able to convince me that ACOSF was a good book. Let me explain.
1) It was a literal homicide for all the characters. Every. Single. One. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s from Nesta’s pov or what, but seriously, every single character basically became unlikeable? Rhys? Feyre (to an extent)? Cassian? Mor? Amren? Did Nesta really get much better?? Like no one was really likeable. Maybe Az being the only sane one. Elain showed some teeth which I liked but it still wasn’t the best.
2) Where was the plot? You’re telling me she only found troves and then killed one mortal/made queen? Before you argue, the fact we find out about Nesta’s literal powers in another series says a lot. Why didn’t we find out Nesta had silver flame power (WHICH IS THE NAME OF THE BOOK) in said book??????? Make it make sense. This book didn’t move the plot at all. Other than having the troves now. And killing the one crazy queen. The amount of times we were on the stairs was not needed. Nesta is a massive part of this universe, and yes, she can wield the troves. But everyone who is made can. So like what else could she have done? Something more im sure. I mean that’s why I think she was in HOFAS in the first place. To “conquer” the prison, get gwydion as her return of service, and show her powers. I get that the whole starborn thing needed to happen in HOFAS with Bryce but honestly Nesta needed more. And that’s another reason why people think she’s going to get another book, because what even happened in her book????
3) Nessian. Now here me out. Do we like smut? Yes. Do we like it when there’s actual romance involved? Yes. Did we truly get that? No. It’s been a while since I read this book because I just have no desire for a re-read. I’m sorry. But going from “my only regret in this life is that we did not have time. That I did not have time with you Nesta. I will find you in the next life” (ya I basically memorized it because I was kicking my feet at him saying that) to “I didn’t ask to be shackled to you either” after Nesta, a human turned fae, didn’t care about being called a mate? Like? Absolute homicide to Cassian’s character. Was the hike nice? No. Did he say nice things after she passed out? Yes. But like? I just think they deserved a better romance. And I just literally didn’t even know who I was reading when Cassian was involved. The guy that would crack jokes and just was loving? All of a sudden a mean person? To Nesta too? Like idk. It rubbed me the wrong way. They deserved better. The fact people actually want Eris and Nesta means it CLEARLY did not stick. Which means it was not convincing. No one says this about Feysand. They could have been FIREWORKS. But at times it genuinely didn’t feel like Cassian even liked her??? Where was the golden retriever energy? It was like the guy was on steroids the whole time and just blowing a fuse constantly. That was NOT the Cassian I remembered from ACOWAR. I mean idk maybe it was the fact the reluctant mate trope was just too difficult? The fact it started physically wasn’t my favourite either. Then it was so focused on that that it was like okay were are those romantic moments. “You’re not going to marry Eris” “no” “we will have no others” like that was romantic. Then the shackle thing literally happened the next day. Wtf.
4) Did I relate to Nesta’s issues and healing journey? A bit. But I just found it aggravating at times. I felt there was huge potential to dive into what it is to be the oldest sister. More into alot of things tbh. Her holding the line on Ramiel was a great moment, because she could finally protect people she cared about, but I wish that would have been implied more? Her journey seemed like a huge self insert and idk. It wasn’t as amazing as it could have been.
5) Nesta’s redemption? I don’t even like that word. I wanted people to begin to UNDERSTAND Nesta more. Not just be thankful she saved Feyre/Rhys/Nyx. Like a genuine understanding. Does Cassian? Ya I guess. Elain? It’s said she knew everything Nesta did and why. So yes she did. Az? Ya. He was literally the only one who wasn’t an asshole to her at any point lol. And I wouldn’t consider Elain and asshole to her either because she did just stand up for herself finally. Like imagine the comments you’d hear having Nesta as a sister (for real). But did anyone leave understanding Nesta, understanding why she was snarky and rude? No. Idk if that’s the point to create a divide or what. But seriously. I get Nesta to some degree now. Why did the characters not.
6) Nesta gaining friends was nice and I see why people cling to the Valkyrie. That was literally probably the best part of the book. And that’s saying something about the way the romantic pair was executed might I add. We weren’t obsessed with Feyre and Mor and Amren being friends. We were obsessed with Feysand. But the most you hear from ACOSF is about the Valkyrie.
7) Again. I never truly hated Nesta, but I didn’t necessarily love her after this either. I understood the character more, I saw her own dark thoughts, I saw how she felt, and I understood. But was she my favourite? No. I think her appearance in HOFAS, other than showing her powers (????), was to make Nesta more likeable. Because a lot of people still don’t like her. Like I said, I am PRO ARCHERON FOREVER, but I wanted more for Nesta. I wanted a lot for the girl.
8) The dreaded bonus chapter. I’ve said my opinion on this multiple times. Idk. It’s just hate for Elain that drives it tbh. It’s literally a copy and paste of the Nessian one from ACOMAF basically that if you put it in a plagiarism generator it would probably not pass. YET, it has literally desecrated the fandom. Completely. You literally can’t go anywhere without some ship war happening. And ya, I feed into it too being super pro Elriel because I love them. But damn. Imagine if this energy was put into, idk, theories of the plot? We would have figured out the Maas universe by now tbh. I wish it didn’t exist everyday. And to a lot of people it doesn’t, and I envy them. Life was simpler before the “did you read the bonus chapter” fiasco. And tbh I’m pretty sad that SJM hasn’t said a word about it. Or her publisher because it gets way out of line way too often. The actual love triangle has always been set up as Lucien/Elain/Az, and somehow we left the BC with a square??? Idek.
Overall, it just did not do Nesta or Cassian justice in my mind. It created way too many head canons, it made Cassian unlikeable in a lot of ways (why are you calling Mor beautiful?) and it just seriously destroyed a lot of characters.
I’m really hoping in Elain’s book we, idk, make amends finally? If I have to see another toe to toe battle between Nesta and Rhys I’m going to be sick. They are both right in ways, but I just can’t take it anymore. And this is what I mean about Nesta’s story not being one of UNDERSTANDING. Which is what she NEEDED. TO BE UNDERSTOOD. The rudeness, snarky comments, death glares etc just needed to be understood man.

Remember that Feysand post I made "Do you think we're together in another universe?" Yeah, that one.
I let someone post it on Tik Tok and those people got mad.
Y'ALL CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH, MY TRUTH.
It makes me laugh though. I commented saying it's one of my best posts on Tumblr and yet, no one has started anything with me, they're taking it up with @totorotori (Kudos to you)

Of your three points, one is about how fun and interesting this would be for Tamlin's character and two are about dunking on Rhysand.
I'm beginning to think you care more about Rhys than you do about Tamlin...
Raise up your hand in the comments if you want Rhysand sister to come back somehow and her and Tamlin to be lovers who reunite after years of tension and end up being mates because
You want Tamlin to have a healing arc where he gets his HEA
you want it to piss of rhysand
you want to see rhysand sister defend tamlin to rhysand
NO because number 3 would be so insane and dramatic and juicy tho

Azriel with single mom reader? I feel like being a single mom in ACOTAR would be tricky as hell... reader comes from autumn court and flees to night court because she got pregnant out of marriage? 😯 the shame
Pairing: Azriel x Reader
Word count: ~950
Warnings: Nothing yet, maybe just a little angst
a/n: Okay I know this is a drabble but this is definitely getting more parts like I am attached to this storyline now and LOVE that you requested it 🤗
Read part two here
____________________________________________
You leaned against a pillar just outside the school, a twitch creeping up your hands until your fingers spasmed. You shoved them under the bend of your elbows, crossing your arms and biting into your lip.
She was fine.
She was more than fine—Velaris was safe.
Anything would have been safer than facing your father’s wrath back in Autumn, but you had gotten extremely lucky with the timing of your escape. Falling pregnant with your daughter had not been in the cards, especially not after a single night of rebellion, but with Velaris’s doors opening up just days after your healer broke the news, something seemed to be written in the stars.
But every day was still a gamble; your father could find you at any time.
The past five years had been a miracle, if you were being honest.
School was supposed to end two minutes ago.
Your foot began to shake, popping your knee up and down and making your body vibrate with the anxiety that consumed you.
You shouldn’t have let her go to school.
Melanie only had a few friends—neighbor kids whose parents you had vetted extensively—but that had been enough for her to get the idea into her head. You had planned on homeschooling her, or at least waiting until she was a few years older before letting her out into the world. Unfortunately, that had not been Melanie’s plan, and Melanie had so many wonderful plans. As most five-year-olds did.
Gods, what if—
“First day?” a rumbling voice made you pause your nervous fidgeting. The man spoke again. “If you’re worried, don’t be. The teacher is great. Just forgetful when it comes to time. They are typically a few minutes late every day.”
You swallowed and turned around despite every voice in your head telling you not to. But those voices in your head were completely and utterly wrong about a multitude of things. Behind you, you found a man—an Illyrian—with wings an ungodly size and shadows swirling down his legs and onto a uniform pool along the ground. And he was gorgeous—unabashedly gorgeous in the most devastating way.
You looked up from your blatant investigation of him, meeting his eye and stuttering out, “Oh. That’s… that’s good to know. Thank you.”
If he noticed your stutter, he didn’t make any sign of it. Instead, the man with the wings and the shadows blinked several times, furrowed his brows, and took a step back as if to steady himself. Perhaps, if you weren’t a bundle of unreasonable nervous energy, you would have found his actions strange, but you were. So you simply offered him a superficial, airy laugh and uncrossed your arms.
“I—” the man began, but he seemed to lose his train of thought, a heat traveling up his cheeks in a way that looked foreign. “I’m Azriel.”
Oh, wonderful. Introductions.
You tried your hardest to stay very far away from very many people. It was the best way to keep yourself hidden. You couldn’t avoid the neighbors, and you supposed you couldn’t avoid fae like Melanie’s teacher, but this was different.
Shit.
You offered your name, anyway, afraid of appearing too outlandish in an otherwise casual setting.
It would be fine.
This was fine.
Azriel repeated it in a breathless way, but then the school bell rang and something seemed to click in his brain. The small smile that had curled up the corner of his mouth became hard and he shot his eyes quickly one way and then the other, inspecting your surroundings.
Maybe this wasn’t fine.
“Are you a new mom in the area?” Azriel asked.
All of your nerves shifted to guarded unease. “I am,” you offered, not caring if it was almost a lie.
“The moms here don’t usually do the pick ups alone.”
“You’re doing a pick up alone, it seems.”
“I’m picking up my nephew,” Azriel explained, relaxing his posture, making himself smaller, seemingly gauging the building tension. “I didn’t mean to come across—I just asked because the mothers here typically have help. From their mates or partners. From the father.”
You bit the inside of your cheek, your next words tumbling out before you could catch them. “Well, I’m alone.”
Double shit.
Azriel seemed to let out a breath, his shadows whipping around along the ground.
You braced yourself for further questioning, for the judgments that would surely follow, but then you were attacked from behind by a pair of arms wrapping around your knees. You turned quickly, scooping your daughter into a hug and promptly dismissing any further conversation with the stranger.
“Hi, Mel,” you smiled, tucking her hair back as you subtly looked her over. “How was school? Did you like it?”
“I loved it!” she excitedly replied. She rambled on a bit more after that, retelling her day by the minute.
You felt eyes on you the entire time. A small boy had run and jumped into Azriel’s arms in your peripheral, but even as the boy talked and talked just as Melanie did, you felt the occasional glance your way. And some of Azriel’s shadows had to be reigned in multiple times, the small wisps licking at your ankles.
The teacher suddenly spoke up and you were eavesdropping, straining your ears to listen in on her greeting towards the Illyrian.
“Oh, Azriel, lovely to see you. We were hoping the High Lady would be picking Nyx up, but this is even better. There is a showcase in a few weeks that—”
You felt your world freeze.
High Lady.
You had been speaking to someone in close relation to the Night Court. You let someone know your name, told them you were alone with a child, and they had direct access to the High Lord and Lady.
You whisked Melanie into your arms despite her protests and beelined it home.
Shit.

🤍🌸🤍🌸🤍
Grass was soft beneath your feet, tickling between your toes as you tended to the rose bush in front of you. It was the only one that had yet to bloom this season, disliking the slightly cooler weather that autumn brought to the Spring Court. Your fingers drifted over the stubborn buds, each of them blooming under your touch. A gentle breeze passed by, making the petals flutter and the loose hairs of your braid tickle at your neck.
Lilac roses had always been your favorite of all the flowers your father had planted. Not only are they a part of the garden expansion he’d planted for you at your birth, they were also the most stubborn bushes in the rose garden. They take forever to bloom each season and refuse to wilt, and sometimes you almost wished you had a bit more of that persistence yourself.
Your life in Spring had been nearly perfect- the only true want you had was to experience the other seasons, at least once in your life. But in the twenty-four years you’d been alive, you had yet to see the other three. And each time you’d asked your father, he’d told you that you weren’t ready yet. So aside from that desire, you had no complaints.
You had plenty of training for your growing powers, access to a grand library, delicious and fresh food, plus you were even allowed to roam the Court, with a chaperone of course. As safe as the Spring Court was, your father was still worried about the only heir to his throne wandering around without protection. Especially since you had presented as an omega two years ago. Your favorite companion of choice was Lucien, whenever he returned from the High King and Queen’s Court. He let you play and socialize with the other young fae without hesitation, while any of the sentries who accompanied you were difficult to convince.
A particularly unyielding bud drew you from your thoughts, and you pinched it between your fingers lightly. Your brow scrunched slightly as you focused on it, directing the power flowing in your blood and pushing a small amount of it forward, a satisfied smile on your lips when the rose bloomed fully, pretty lilac petals brushing your skin. You were so focused that you only registered the sound of footsteps when the person rounded the corner, and turned to see a flustered Lucien, heading straight towards you.
“Hello! Look, I’ve nearly gotten the whole bush to bloom-” Your words were cut off when Lucien grabbing you by your arm, tugging you back the way he came. “Why are we rushing, Lucien?” you asked, slightly worried with just how fast he was pulling you back to entrance to the manor.
“You forgot about one of your lessons,” Lucien said plainly, and you made a face at the obvious lie.
“No, I didn’t Lucien. I never have lessons on Sunday afternoons, so what is it really?”
Lucien looked back at you once you’d exited the rose hedges, and your worry grew at the fear in his eyes. “I’ll explain once we get to your rooms, Y/N,” he said placatingly before tugging on your arm again, leading you up the path to the front door, still ajar, likely from when he’d come to fetch you.
As you entered the manor, Lucien came to a sudden halt, and you bumped into his back, smacking him on the arm for stopping so unexpectedly. “Lucien!” you scolded, prying his hand off of your arm when his grip tightened. “Why did you-?” You paused mid-question after peering around his shoulder, eyes landing on a winged male standing next to your father, hazel eyes locked on yours.
He most certainly was not from the Spring Court.
“Hello,” you said meekly, stepping out from behind Lucien’s back and smiling at the male.
The male smiled back at you, stepping forward until he stood before you. He extended a hand, and your eyes registered the marred flesh before you looked back up, not wanting to make the male uncomfortable and extending a hand without hesitating. Despite its appearance, his skin was soft as he took your hand gently. “Hello, beautiful. My name is Azriel, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” he said smoothly, lifting your hand to press a kiss to the back of it, his scent washing over you as he did.
Cedar wood and night-chilled mist-
Alpha.
A slight flush spread over your cheeks as he pulled back, looking at you expectantly. “It’s lovely to meet you, Azriel. My name is Y/N,” you said with a curtsy.
“Y/N, hm? And what is a wonderful young omega like yourself doing at the High Lord’s manor?” Azriel asked, slowly letting go of your hand.
“I’m the Princess of Spring, sir,” you replied, noticing the way his eyes widened the slightest bit. “What brings you to our lovely court, if I may ask?”
Your father stepped forward then, drawing your eyes to his, emerald eyes blazing as they flicked between you and Azriel. “We were just heading to my study, sweetheart. Why don’t you head along to that lesson Lucien was taking you to?” he suggested forcefully, and you nodded. It wasn’t often that he acted like this, but when he did? You knew he was only acting in your best interest.
“It was nice meeting you, Azriel,” you said, flashing him a bright smile before you let Lucien pull you away. You could feel his frustration the entire way up the stairs and to your room, but he didn’t speak until the door was shut and locked behind him.
“Y/N,” he sighed, putting his head in his hands. “Why did you talk to him?!”
“I-” you paused, completely confused. “I acted how I always do with new guests, politely.”
“But that was- Mother, Y/N, that was the High King and Queen’s spymaster!” he yelled. Lucien turned away from you, taking a few deep breaths before looking back. “It’s complicated, Y/N, but they weren’t aware of your existence, Tamlin made sure of it. They don’t… He has a complex history with them, and he thought it best to introduce you to their Court when you were older.”
“So I’m… a secret?” you asked, thoroughly confused. “But people in Spring know who I am, so how do they not know?”
Lucien sighed. “They’ve all been told to keep their knowledge of you hushed. And that worked, up until today… But I suppose there’s nothing to be done about it now,” he said heavily.
“What do you think will happen?” you asked hesitantly, not entirely sure that you want to hear the answer. You didn’t know much about your High King and Queen, but the little you did know told you that they were fearsome and ruthless when the situation called for it.
“I’m not sure, Y/N. But whatever does happen, I need you to stay strong, Y/N. They aren’t the fondest of your father…”
You pondered that for a moment. Why wouldn’t they like your father? He only did what was best for the court, and also complied with the rulings of the High King and Queen. What was there to dislike?
You were just about to ask him when a key rattled in your door, swinging open a moment later to reveal your father. He looked distraught for the first time in your life, emerald eyes latching onto you as his claws retracted into his knuckles, and he let out a sigh of relief.
“Lucien-”
“I know, Tamlin. I’m sorry, I should’ve winnowed her out-”
Your father held up a hand, stopping Lucien before he could go any further. “I don’t blame you, Lucien. If anyone is to blame, It’s me,” he groaned. “I should have expected they would come calling today, with the courting ball approaching. I’m sorry, Y/N, I should have saved you from this,” he lamented, approaching you and pulling you in for a tight hug.
“Saved me from what?” you asked, curious as to what event they were talking about.
“There’s…” Lucien paused for a moment, looking at your father for any disapproval. “Every five years, there is a two week long courting season for unclaimed omegas, and attendance is mandatory.” Your eyes widened, and you opened your mouth to protest, but Lucien continued, “You do not need to find an alpha, Y/N, you will only be made to attend and participate in the traditional courting activities.”
You breathed a sigh of relief. That was one major worry sorted. “I am struggling to see the problem, then.”
“The prob-?” Tamlin released you, looking down at you with shock. “The problem is that the High King and Queen know about you, sweetheart. Who knows what they’ll use this opportunity to do?” He was frantic again, and began pacing the length of your room.
“Tamlin, she’s right. I know it’s not ideal, but the fact that they have yet to barge in and demand to meet Y/N is promising. And I doubt that they’ll do anything to harm her, seeing as she’s a protected citizen under their own law,” Lucien said placatingly. Tamlin slowed his pace, considering the words.
“Besides, they were going to learn of me eventually, right? I don’t see the harm in doing it sooner, rather than later,” you added. And wouldn’t it be better, if they found out sooner? They’d likely be angrier the longer you were hidden, if they’ll even be angry at all.
You weren’t even sure why it matters so much, to keep you hidden.
“It might even be better, to have her introduced to their Court during the season. They’re typically on their best behavior during it,” Lucien pointed out, and your father stopped pacing.
“I hadn’t thought of it that way,” he sighed. “We’ll wait to see if you receive an invite, Y/N. And if you don’t, all the better. Now, I’m sure your mother has already finished brewing a pot of tea for us all to enjoy, why don’t we go see her in the garden?” Tamlin didn’t wait for a response, already taking of at a brisk pace.
You and Lucien let him go ahead, preferring to give him a bit of space. He even let you set the pace, a slow meander through the halls and down the stairs. Questions were something you didn’t bother with, knowing that Lucien had always been tight-lipped about the High King and Queen at your father’s request.
Which made you all the more curious. Just what had happened between the three of them?
“Y/N, my baby!” your mother squealed when you passed through the back garden door, jumping up from her seat to squeeze you tightly. “I heard you met the Shadowsinger, I’m sorry it wasn’t a more planned meeting, dear. But, if it means you get to attend the courting season, I won’t be too upset!” Lilia tugged you over to the table, laden with tiny sandwiches and cakes and a tea set. “That’s where your father and I met, you know,” she said dreamily as you sat down, your teacup already being filled by your father.
“Really? So you can give me tips on what to do,” you giggled.
“Of course! I’ll tell you all about it while we get you ready over the next week.”
“Ready?” you asked hesitantly. What was so different about it compared to your court’s festivities that you need to be prepared for it?
“Yes, Y/N, ready. There’s more to a courting season than there is to solstice celebrations,” she said simply. “You’ll need to know how to spot a kind alpha from one who only wants to hurt you, or have you as a status symbol. And it’s always a good idea to know what’s expected of you during each event.”
“They’re all harmless events, you just need to know the etiquette. But that can wait, why don’t you have a sandwich, Y/N?” Lucien placed a small sandwich on the plate in front of you, and pushed it towards you.
You saw the move for what it was- an attempt to swing the conversation to your mother’s cooking. It was a good choice, one that had your father’s shoulders loosening as he picked up one of them for himself.
If anyone was in trouble this courting season, it was sure to be your father.
🤍🌸🤍🌸🤍
Sleep was hard to find that night, your sheets a rumpled mess an hour after you’d laid down. While you weren’t concerned about the courting season, you were still a tad nervous.
Another fifteen minutes passed, and you sighed heavily before getting up. One thing, and one thing alone would allow you to sleep.
A nest.
You brought three pillows and four extra blankets out of your closet and onto your bed, piling them around the center to make a decently sized barrier. The moment you slid under the sheets inside of it, the restlessness inside of you stilled. Your favorite plush in the shape of a strawberry was clutched to your chest as you dozed off, sleep finally claiming you.
🩵💜🤍💜🩵
The clouds above your head floated past lazily, giving you a chance to find a shape in each one.
You were laying in your favorite clearing, the one just past the forest’s edge near the manor, with wildflowers blooming all around you. The sky was striking, pretty streaks of dark orange, blue, and purple, each cloud more beautiful than the last.
“There you are, darling, we’ve been looking for you.” You lifted your head to see two high fae, walking towards you from the tree line. “Can we join you?”
It was the gorgeous female who’d spoken, her blue eyes shining brightly as she kneeled on the grass next to you.
“Oh, I… I suppose,” you said shyly, blushing when you saw her even closer. She was stunning, her skin glowing softly against the darkening sky. She laid down beside you, close enough that your fingers brushed the side of her leg nearest to you. Your cheeks reddened further when the male laid down as well, except he was on his side, facing you.
Two fingers met your chin, turning your head until you were looking him in the eyes. Violet eyes, flecked with stars- actual stars, so brilliant they took your breath away. “It’s been too long since we’ve come to visit, don’t you think?”
“Far too long,” the female next to you agreed. “I think we both deserve a kiss, with how long its been. Right?”
“You heard her, darling,” the male chuckled, leaning in and pressing his lips to yours, demanding but so soft against you. “Don’t be shy, give one to Feyre.” Your cheeks were flushed, your lungs breathless as your face was again turned by two gentle fingers, a different, plusher set of lips colliding with yours.
She kissed you hungrily, her hand holding you in place while she took her fill, your lips learning her rhythm and moving in time, your body sinking further into the ground as you went limp in her hold. A hand met your waist, slowly snaking down to brush against your hip and startling you out of the kiss.
“Good girl, didn’t you miss us?” the female, Feyre, asked.
You were dizzy enough from the melding of your lips that you nodded, knowing it was the answer they were looking for.
“We won’t ever be away for so long again, darling, don’t you worry. Every day, until the end of time, we’ll see you.” The male’s hand was back on your hip, thumb stroking across the fabric of your dress soothingly.
“Every day?” you asked sleepily, followed by a yawn.
“That’s right, little love. Every day. How does that sound to you?”
You felt warm and fuzzy inside, fizzy bubbles of happiness rushing through your blood. Feeling like this every day, with them? “Good,” you whispered, smiling when each cheek received a kiss.
“Perfect, darling, because we weren’t going to leave you alone anyways,” the male said lightly, burying his nose against your neck and scenting you deeply. “Especially not when you smell so delici-”
“Rise and shine, Y/N!” The curtains to your room were thrown wide open, and the sunlight coupled with the cheery voice of your mother had you squinting your eyes open. “We have an official invite for you from the High King and Queen themselves to attend their courting season, so you need to get up now, my dear.”
You groaned and rolled over, letting yourself burying your face in a pillow for a minute.
What had you been dreaming about? Something nice, and… What was it?
Whatever it was, you hadn’t wanted to wake up just yet, but you resigned yourself to dismantling your makeshift nest, and began getting ready for a day filled with courting preparations.

Writing YA books about Faes/Faeries: Holly Black and Sarah J. Maas
I’ve started to notice this trend and discussions on how some hardcore SJM fans didn't enjoy The Cruel Prince, whereas the Cruel Prince fans tend to be critical of SJM’s work.
Some of it can be blamed on tiktokification of reading, essentially wanting to just read porn, which would be fine, if people would admit to it instead of shitting on good YA books and making them unpopular, which results in publishing of more mediocre smut with problematic undertones with no consistent plot, which in turn dumbs down the audience. There's no need to turn an entire age category of books into Wattpad fanfics.
I’ve seen ACOTAR fans on tiktok (before I deleted tiktok) say they “didn’t get” Cruel Prince or had to DNF because it was “boring” and "too much politics, no smut”. I had heard all of that before I read either Holly Black's or SJM's work so here's an objective take because I'm not a hardcore fan of either of them.
If you think The Cruel Prince has a lot of politics, you have been tiktokified or don't remember a book that wasn't romance or YA to begin with, so please go read one. It's good for you to broaden your horizons. It doesn't have a lot of politics even for YA. But I will say this: the pacing was slow and the romance was practically nonexistent. You'll have to really look into details and speculate. I wasn't digging it at first at all. I had to come back and reread it again after finishing the trilogy. I fell in love with Jude x Cardan only during the second reread. The Cruel Prince trilogy is not for smut seekers.
However, what some fans don't realize is that unlike SJM, Holly Black doesn't excuse Cardan's or Jude's actions to make them look like great people and leaders or forces the narrative and other characters' pov's to do that. Holly actually writes Fae as what they're supposed to be - actual different creatures from humans with different ways of thinking and feeling. I read somewhere that humans have black vs white morality they navigate, while the fair folk have orange vs blue morality. It's not the same for them, and yet, ones who are actually evil are easily distinguishable. Holly manages to pull that off beautifully. The writing in that regard is masterful. I would also say that Jude and Taryn have adapted to and adopted orange vs blue morality in their own ways. Which translates in them seeking security in the world that's not designed for them, as well as their ambitions.
SJM, on the other hand, writes Fae as way too powerful, constantly horny, conventionally hot people. There is no orange vs blue or even grey morality, they're just selfish people with victim complexes. Their backstories serve as an excuse, not as an explanation. Everyone yaps about how powerful they are but always need their asses saved. PTSD is written unrealistically and the author only whips it out when she needs it. Characters' grand gestures of growth feel shallow since they always go back on their words or ignore the actual root of problems. Faerie folklore is not properly explored, random mythology is tossed in, plot bends backwards to make the perfect ending for protagonists...I would call it porn with plot except the smut isn't even good.
SJM also can't write politics, so instead she feeds her readers propaganda so they won't question the rulers' incompetence and incapacity to make a change in centuries. The whole thing feels like a parody of making fun of filthy rich people. It would be at least somewhat clever if it was.
Lastly, a shout-out to Margaret Rogerson for writing the best and loveliest way I've seen about what it's like to give up humanity to become Fae and grapple with remaining humane in her book An Enchantment of Ravens. Fair warning though, the book is pure fluff, no smut.

the “right” person is so funny considering these are fictional characters who have absolutely no sentience unless we make them have it😭 (i.e. we can make them be in a relationship with any and every character under the sun AND make them have certain traits/attributes that don’t align with canon)
Tumblr media
example #3245769 of why this fandom doesn't know how to fandom and is so goddamn insufferable

Could you do ACOTAR men x reader headcanons where how they would react/ respond to reader shoving her cold hands up their shirts?
My hands and feet are always cold so I always have my hands in my pockets or in between my thighs. And I always have some hot hands packs in my jacket during the colder months.
As I am typing this, I’m waiting for my socks to finish warming up in the dryer so my feet are warm 😀
Always so Cold
ACOTAR Men x reader
A/n: I’m always cold too anon and this weather is killing me bc of my Raynaud’s. I hope your socks are nice and toasty babes 🥰
Also @redbleedingrose did one like this a while ago and I reread it all the time it's so good (along with literally everything else she writes) you can read it here
Warnings: none
Rhysand
He would be working when you come into his office and you’d innocently start rubbing his shoulders
Your hands go lower and lower until you shove your frozen fingers down his shirt
Rhys let out a small scream, “Why are your hands always freezing!?” You let out a giggle as you rub them against his chest trying to soak up his warmth
He pulls your hands out from his shirt, leading you to sit on his lap
Your shivering at this point from the loss of heat which does not go unnoticed by your mate
“My darling, you’re freezing come here.” You sit on his lap as Rhys pulls you into his chest. “A little.”
Rhys scoffs lifting you up going to sit by the fire. “Warm yet my love?” You pretend to think for a moment before shaking your head. “Nope. I think we should go to bed and snuggle.” Rhys lets out a laugh kissing your forehead. “That sounds like a great idea darling.”
Cassian
Cass is just minding is business making a snack in the kitchen when you sneak up behind him
You plaster your hands on the back of his neck and he drops what’s in his hands letting out a shocked sound
Cassian pulled away and turned to look at your silly smile
“Why!? And why are you always so gods damned cold?” You let out a loud laugh and move to shove your hands up his shirt
You hug him and keep your hands against his warm skin. Cassian hugs you, rubbing your back to warm you up. “Why don’t we go snuggle on the couch, I’ll make hot cocoa too.”
You let out a hum, “that sounds perfect.” Cass shoos you away so he can make your drinks and snack
Azriel
Az would know when you're sneaking up on him thanks to his shadows
He lets you get close but at the last second Azriel spins around and grabs your wrists. You let out a squeal of surprise as your mate pulls you into his chest
"You will not get me with those icicles you call hands again." He says laughing with you as you try to break free from Az's grip
"But Azzy! I'm cold and need you to warm me up." You give him a fake pout while trying to hold back your laughter
Az lets out an exaggerated sigh, "Fine. I guess we should go upstairs and get you bundled up." "Can I have your hoodie that I love?" "Of course you can." He says placing a soft kiss on your head
Lucien
Lu is so unbothered by your cold hands so he always lets you grab at him
He just raises his body temp more making it so you're suuper warm
He hates that you get so cold. While you make jokes about it he is genuinely concered becuase no one should be that cold all the time
When you do come up to him Lucien insists you snuggle on the couch
You lay on top of him and Lucien wraps you up in a blanet, using his powers to become your personal heater
Usually you end up falling asleep perfectly toasty
Eris
Eris just lets you put your hands up his shirt and your hands wander all over his torso
He just looks down at you with a fake annoyed look
You smile at him knowing that he's worried about you and your cold hands
He carefully removes your hands bringing them up to his mouth leaving soft kisses across the back of your hands
"Here my love." Eris whispered, encasing your hands in his, warming them with his powers
You lean into Eris to absorb more warmth
The lordling kisses the crown of your head lightly whsipering sweet nothings

hi!!! hope you're doing great. i was wondering if I could get Azriel from acotar with #15. thanks!!
A/N - This is beyond cute for Azriel, I hope you like it, anon!
Mattered
Summary - Azriel drinks in the morning while thinking of the peace in his life
Tumblr media
Warnings - Just fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Azriel blinked awake, and the last bit of his dream escaped from him life fog through his fingers.
The dream seemed so real to him, not a nightmare but a dream.  He dreamt of his mother, her long black hair that was always braided or in her face to frame her eyes.  He remembered her smile, how big it was, and how it would lift his spirits.  But even before he could utter a word, he was awake.
And she was gone.
The fireplace licked to life from the moment he took in a deep breath, instantly filling the room with warmth since it was a pinch too cold for Azriel’s liking.  The room was still dark, the wallpaper and dark furniture keeping the room dark and dim as dark clouds still roamed over the sky at the House of Wind.  He breathed in slowly, stretching a bit before realizing he was not alone in the massive bed.  Looking to his left, he noticed you, his mate of over 400 years, curled up against a massive body pillow that you love to use every once in a while.  Your own thick hair was fanned out behind you, your bareback showing the scattered freckles that looked like constellations to him, even the way your lips parted as you were in deep sleep, Azriel thought you of as beautiful.
He slipped the blanket back over you to keep you warm, kissing your neck lovingly before he moved out of bed.  He grabbed a sweater that was tossed on the armchair from the previous night, ruffling his hair as he threw it on and tiptoed out of the room.  Looking at you one last time as you mumbled and turned in your sleep.  Azriel had to smile, you were a bit comical to watch when you were sleeping.
The rest of the House of Wind was quiet, only dimmed lights along the hallways were evident to show that the rest of the home was asleep.  You and Azriel stayed over for the night since there was a massive snowstorm that hit Velris,  Azriel wasn’t comfortable flying you both back to your own little place by the bay where the ships docked.  Cassian offered one of the guest rooms for you two, to which you agreed and fell asleep with ease.  The guest room you both were in was on the first floor, tucked near the main terrace that overlooked Velaris.  Azriel figured, given the small amount of light that he could see creeping over the clouds that haunted its dump of snow, it was almost daw.
The temperature was cold, not too cold like the night before when Cassian suggested you both stay for the night, but cold enough for Azriel to see his breath.  He shivered slightly, though the cold was also inviting as he closed the door behind him and wrapped his arms around himself to scan the area.  Everywhere was blanketed in snow, from the tops of the mountains down to the docks and some even on the ocean water.  It almost looked like a winter wonderland from his view, the small shops dead asleep and the little homes that were tucked away in peace and safety.
Something he wanted for this place for quite some time.
As some of the glimpses of sunlight started to come up to paint the sky a lighter blue, Azriel could think back to the plenty of times he would contemplate if he was doing the right things and making the right decisions for the sake of Velaris and Night Court, if hiding it away from the Other Courts and beyond was worth having his neck on the line.  But then again, this place was the one true sense of home he’d ever had in quite some time.  The found family he had, started with Rhsyand and Cassian, who never turned their backs on him.  In fact, he felt more at home than he’d ever felt before.
But that sense of home grew tenfold when you came stumbling into his life and shook his world in the best way.
He never pictures himself to be the romantic type, not like a long shot given his track record as a Shadowsinger and a spy for Rhysand.  He was too busy and occupied, too focused on certain things, even too complicated, to let someone come into his life and shift everything for him.  Not that he didn’t think about having any kind of love in his life, he did from time to time.  He was inwardly jealous that Rhysand and Cassian found their mates, and although he thought he had his own in Elaine which later turned out to be a mutual friendship, he had to wonder if he was ever destined to have someone of his own.
You were the calm shores to his crashing waves, the gentle breeze to his gusts of wind, the rays of sunshine on a bleak morning.  From your smile that seem to make Azriel’s heartache, to the way you would twirl your hair while reading a book.  Even in how you knew how to defend yourself when in a fight as you two fought side by side against Hybern, Azriel was memorized by you.  But the one thing that drew him to you like a moth to a flame was your kindness.  You were kind to all you met, helped those who needed it, and were never selfish.  Not for one moment.  It made Azriel want to be a better version of himself, and he worked on that once you two started courting.
Centuries came and went, growth and love blossomed between the pair of you, and Azriel was certain that he could no longer live this life he had alone.  You were his guidance when he was lost, his comfort when he was struggling, and the love he’s been searching for since he lost his mother.
Another breath escaped his lips as he grinned at the view in front of him.  The snow was sticking, and another wave of snow was going to come within the hour.  But thankfully, Azriel and his mate had nothing planned for the rest of the day.  Nesta offered the library for you to use since you loved to read as much as she did, whereas Cassian and Azriel were planning to spar and train together in one of the open rooms of The House of Wind.  Mor and Armen were at their homes, as well as the High Lord and Lady a River House with Nyx. There was nothing really important to deal with, so it was now a time to have peace and reconnect.
“Can’t sleep?”
Your voice floated in the wind as Azriel turned his head slightly in your direction, hearing you sneak out onto the terrace where he was.  He grinned, you floated over to him with one of the massive comforter blankets that you both used for your sleep. Dropping it over his shoulders and avoiding his wings, Azriel tucked you under his arm to keep you close under the same blanket, kissing your hair as you wrapped your arms around him lovingly.
“How could you tell?” He asked against your hair as you hummed.
“When you wake up early when you’ve had an intense dream,” You explained, squeezing him a bit tighter as you looked up at him with worry, “What was it about?”
You knew about his mother and how much he missed her from time to time.  He told you all that he could remember of her, and how he could hear her in his dreams.  At first, he thought it was silly to confide in you about his past it seemed painful and horrific.  But you simply took his hands in your own, kissing the scars along his skin, and loved him for all he was. It almost seemed too good to be true for him, to have someone love him and all of him.  Not just hard or a quarter, but everything.  Azriel never felt insane love like he did with you, who would make sure he’d eat and sleep, who would make him feel heard and admired, and who made Azriel rethink his future.  A future that involved a little home somewhere, maybe with a child or two or three, and to have peace.
You brought him that peace.
“Just my mother is all, and then of you,” He replied, you grinning from ear to ear as he kissed your forehead intimately, “It was a good dream,”
“That’s all that matters,” You reminded him, then patting his chest with your hand, “Let’s eat some breakfast and watch the sunrise before it snows again,”
“Sounds perfect,” Azriel hummed in agreement.  You both walked back into The House of Wind, the sky getting lighter by the minute as a new day was coming through Velaris.  He would follow you to the end of the earth and defy everything else, which sounded so strange coming from him but he never minded it.  Not with the soul that saved his life in more ways than one and kept him sane.
He had you, and that’s all that mattered.
The End

Project 7c (Part 2)
Acotar
lab worker y/n x Rhysand, Cassian and Azriel
Warnings: thoughts about lack of food, imprisonment of Y/n and the Illyrian babies, mostly fluff.
1,600 words
(Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4)
~
A loud clunk sounded from outside the room before the door was pulled open with a slight creak. 5 guards stood, armed with their usual batons and additional guns and knives. Evidently, they considered these captived a threat. Two women stepped forward in lab coats with trays in their hands. Two plates on each tray and a large jug of water on each of the trays.
Tucked into Cassian y/n couldn't make out much of what happened, especially with the other two blocking her view. But after a moment or two, the door was closed with another loud clunk, and the two trays of food and water were visible on the floor near the door.
Y/n glanced at the one-way glass for a moment. Wondering if they were studying even this. Of course they were. She wondered what the researchers expected to happen. After all, she'd been the first human guinea-pig to actually stay inside the cell. She was snapped out of her thoughts and let out a soft noise of confusion when she was suddenly lifted off of Cassian's lap. Confused and not sure what was happening she barely managed a blink before she'd been placed on Rhysand's lap instead, her back to his chest, one of his arms around her middle to keep her close.
Peeking back at him, a little surprised she was met with a slight smirk as he placed a tray on her lap with her plate of food on it. She had barely registered her hunger this whole encounter, other things taking priority. But the food smelt surprisingly good, and she felt her stomach rumble quietly. None of the males commented, thank goodness. A glance to the side proved that Azriel and Cassian were tucking into their own food. She wondered the last time they'd been given food and felt a little more worried for them.
The next thing she knew, Rhysand's hand gently grasped her chin and turned her head back to face her food. He chucked a little behind her, and she felt his voice slip into her mind like silk again. She was almost getting used to this form of communication at this point.
"You were asleep for a while, darling. Eat before it gets cold. It's not that bad for human food."
Human food? So, to them, human food was bad? It was strange to think about, but they probably had different taste buds.
Giving in y/n experimentally pokes at her food with her cutlery. A little suspicious of it, especially when the lab had proved just how disposable they believed her to be.
Her investigation turned up nothing weird about the food. It actually looked and smelt good, Rhysand hadn't been wrong. Deciding that her hunger was too great to just refuse, y/n lifted a small fork full of what looked like flavoured rice to her mouth. Chewing slowly, suspicious.
When she eventually swallowed, she could feel Rhysand chuckling behind her and in her mind. He leant forward to rest his chin on her shoulder.
"Great, now eat the rest, darling."
Sighing, she continued to eat slowly until she was full, not much being left on her plate. Unsurprising considering she slept for so long and hadn't eaten as a result. She could practically feel Rhysand's smirk, and she could hear it in his voice.
"Good girl, you did better than I was expecting"
Y/n fought a blush, though it briefly registered that he hadn't said his seemingly favourite pet name. She was shifted to be sat next to him on the bed, a little confused at first until he produced his own plate and started to eat. Azriel moved closer to take her plate, his footsteps silent on the white floor, she lifted it up for him to take and he went and handed it to Cassian who made quick work of finishing off her leftovers. One of Rhysands arms stayed firmly wrapped about her waist, keeping her pressed to his side. It was strangely comfortable, and she watched the other two as they moved around, stacking the empty plates together and pouring water into the plastic cups they were provided.
Azriel came over and offered her some water. She slowly accepted it, a little wary of them all still. He was the hardest to read, but almost seemed pleased with her decision to drink the water when she sipped it.
Glancing at Rhysand's plate, she was surprised to see he'd finished it in record time. He placed it to the side and scooped her back into his lap again, easily plucking the cup out of her hands and finishing what little water was left in one gulp. Y/n caught the briefest scowl his way from Azriel. Now sat sideways on Rhysand's lap, leaning into his chest and facing the other two she noticed again that they all seemed to be communicating silently. All she'd heard so far herself was Rhysand's voice. She couldn't help but wonder what they sounded and spoke like.
Her stomach now full of food and no longer grumbling she relaxes against Rhysand. Thinking about what kind of conversation the three might be having. She hardly twitches at the sudden interruption to her thoughts.
"Would you like to know what we're talking about, darling?"
Rhysands smooth and silk like voice, his tell tale smirk just audible.
Y/n thinks for a moment. Wondering what he meant by that.
"I would, but wouldn't it be difficult to tell me everything that's being said?"
She tilted her head a little to meet his purple gaze. Amusement sparkled in his unique eyes. And she didn't get a verbal response from him. Instead, it almost felt like a switch was flicked somewhere in her mind. A different voice filtering in. Deeper, with a slightly gruff tone.
"I wonder how many of their notes are about how good I look."
Cassian smirked at the same time, and she realised that was his voice. It fit him well.
"Not everyone is interested in your appearance, Cassian." The second voice was cooler and exuded a calmness that Azriel somehow managed with just his presence. Both their voices fit them perfectly. She blinks at them a few times, processing. She thinks of what she would say back if she could.
"I heard from someone that they were studying your behaviour. So I don't think they're taking notes on your appearance."
Both males turned to look at her at the same moment. Rhysand chuckled again, the sound slipping into her mind as she felt the vibration against her cheek. She felt a little embarrassed. She hadn't meant to reply, and a slight pink tint started to appear on her cheeks.
Cassian's voice came through, full of amusement "Well well sweetheart, you're getting the hang of this fast. And I guarantee at least one of them is writing about my looks."
Faint warmth flooded her cheeks again as she made eye contact with him for a moment. what was with these males and their pet names.
Azriel didn't speak, but she could feel the eyeroll he made at Cassian's comment.
Rhysand was smirking again, clearly amused by the whole thing.
"You're a quick learner, aren't you, darling." He said it more as a statement, like he knew she'd deny it if actually asked. He watches fascinated and amused as she struggles to accept the compliment. Her cheeks had gone an adorable shade of pink.
Azriel spoke again, his gaze on the way she was tucked against Rhysand. His voice calm and quiet, but not as cold as how he'd spoken to Cassian earlier.
“You should get some more rest now.” No pet name. She blinks under his gaze, he wasn't wrong, she was still tired. But part of her wanted to refuse to rest. She was learning so much, and she'd had so many strange but interesting experiences. Her expression must have given her thoughts away, because she was shifted in Rhysands arms, so that she was cradled comfortably in his lap, her head tucked under his chin as he started to gently play with her hair.
The scent of citrus and sea salt filled her senses, not unwelcome and surprisingly calming.
She tried to ignore the slowing of her breathing and heart rate, trying to stay awake as long as possible. Cassian spoke again. Amusement tinged his gruff voice, though he spoke quieter than before, not wanting to disturb any rest she might get.
“See, she prefers to sleep in my arms, right sweetheart.”
Rhysand shifted her closer as if to prove a point, leaning back against the headboard of his uncomfortable bed. Pulling her into a position where she was lying on her front, chin tucked under his head and curled up in his lap. Y/n didn't respond to Cassian's comment, too busy getting comfortable in Rhysand's arms, and distracted by her endeavour to stay awake.
Cassian proceeds to pout, grumbling to Azriel now about how Rhysand wasn't as comfortable as he was. Azriel just stays quiet, watching as Y/n slowly starts to doze off. Mentally pointing out to Cassian that he was wrong.
Y/n hardly noticed as Rhysand turned her out of the conversation. Sleep had come for her, as much as she didn't want it. She slowly slipped into strange dreams, and Rhysand continued to soothe her by gently playing with her hair.
She saw mountains, one standing out taller, three stars visible at the top. Her dreams panned out around a beautiful city, busy and full of life, the stars above were unlike anything she'd seen before and she couldn't help but stare up at them.
~ (Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3)
Part two wasn't quite as long as I anticipated.
Let me know what you think, I am thinking of continuing the story a bit more.

Tamlin is actually such an underrated character in acotar. Because of feyres very biased narrative she forces readers to ignore the complexity of his character and man. its sad
Tamlin is a character who is genuinely GOOD at his core. He changed so much of the spring court for good, eliminating slavery within the spring lands and mortals having more protection. Hes a morally good character that made a few mistakes and is boiled down to just those mistakes. Locking feyre in the house and the magical/emotional blow up, which are both pretty decent fuck ups (i dont think siding with hybern fully counts as he was a double agent all along and tamlin was decently justified in thinking feyre was being kept against her will. lets be fr here) and even after he’s extremely fucked over by the nightcourt, his lands and court burned to shit, he still saves rhysand. Saves rhysand and tells feyre to be happy, even when he has every reason to NOT do that!
Hes a character that clearly holds himself to a higher standard. throughout acotar he puts lucien and feyres safety above his own, even sending feyre away when she was the only one who could save him. Even though what he did to her wasnt great its not completely irredeemable, rhysand did much worse things to feyre and other people but hes living his best life while Tamlin seems to find himself unworthy of being a person (acosf wheres hes been in beast form for roughly over two years) hes a perfectionist who now doesnt even think he deserves anyone because he accidentally hurt the people he loves most.
Sjm accidentally created a beautifully rich and morally righteous character who is so extremely fucked by the narrative. Which doesnt even work half the time as sjm cant seemingly commit to making him a full villain (seemingly by accident again she gave him quite a reasonable explanation to everything he did ‘wrong’ but still chooses to make him a punching bag)
If Tamlin was genuinely a morally evil character he wouldnt have NEARLY the amount of fans as he does. Hes a character that requires the minimum amount of media literacy and comprehension to understand and i LOVE him.

acotar: happy birthday!
this is very self indulgent bc it is my birthday today! (golden birthday to be exact, 24 on july 24th woooo)
This is like, if Y/N was in a polycule with the inner circle? Theres no sex or direct kissing but they call you the baby or the princess of the Inner Circle. There is a weeeee bit of a bias towards Az, Rhys and Feyre. I CAN’T HELP IT.
Sorry if this aint great, im editing after festivities today and im BEAT. but wanted to get this out on my actual birthday.
A part of you did wonder if the Inner Circle would know today was your birthday.
You knew you’d mention it in passing, but you didn’t expect people to remember it.
So when you woke up to see Morrigan sitting in your dining room with a gift bag, you were shocked. “Uh, good morning?”
“Happy birthday!” She said holding up a bag, “go put this on.”
“What?” You laughed. “Go put this on, Cassian and Nesta are taking you out for your birthday breakfast!” She said, enthusiastically.
You blinked at her, truthfully you were going to spend the day rotting in bed reading. Morrigan gave you a shocked look back, “you really thought we didn’t know?”
“I-I-Mean.” You sputtered.
“You’re an idiot if you thought we would forget our baby’s birthday.” She said teasingly, but got up and gave you a kiss on your forehead. “You have a busy day, go. I’ve already packed your purse.”
“Why?”
“So you can take your meds with your breakfast. Go.” She nudged you away to your bedroom with the bag.
It was clothes, specifically a dress you had been eyeing in a boutique with Feyre, you didn’t buy it because it was so incredibly expensive. Even with your Night Court salary, it was hard for you to spend that much money on one piece of clothing.
Then you pulled out another piece of clothing, but it was the dress in a different color.
“Lavender is for the day, then tonight wear the black.” Morrigan said, walking into your bedroom.
“Two?! Mor I doesn't-”
“Shush, it’s our girls birthday, of course we’re spoiling you.” She smiled, “the dresses and shoes are from me.”
“Shoes?!” She looked to find two pairs of shoes. One, embroidered lavender flats with white flowers to match the lavender dress, then a pair of black strappy gold heels for the black dress.
“Mor, this is too-”
“Shush.” She wrapped her arms around you, her calming citrus and cinnamon scent enveloping you. “I love you, I wanted to do this.”
“Thank you.” You whispered. You had no idea how you were going to pay her back. Not even with money, just by being her friend. “I don’t know what to say.” “You’ve done enough by just being you.” She squeezed you one more time then smacked your ass playfully. “C’mon get ready, they’ll be here soon.”
You snorted and began getting ready. You threw a black cardigan over the lavender dress, making the silver accents in the embroidery of the dress pop. It was a silk dress that went just above your knees. You had silver jewelry on to match the accents, you did simple makeup and hair and walked out to find Cassian and Nesta in your living room after Morrigan let them in.
“There’s the star of the show!” Cassian yelled, throwing his arms up and going to hug you.
He picked you up and twirled you. You yelped and laughed.
“Careful, that dress isn’t hiding much.” Nesta teased walking over after Cassian let you go and she brought you into a hug. “Not that I'm complaining.” Nesta teased again, causing you to blush. “My Gods Nes,” You grumbled.
“C’mon let's go to breakfast.” She grinned, linking your arm with hers and Cassian went to your other side and linked his arm with you.
You called goodbye to Mor, who winked at you and blew you a kiss. Then you guys were off to breakfast.
By the time you got to the restaurant you had felt like a pampered princess, just by all the attention you had received from Cassian and Nesta. You couldn’t imagine what the rest of the day held.
Cassian got the door for you then your chair at the table after confirming the reservation they had. There's pitchers of water at the table so Nesta poured you a glass, then sliced up and buttered the free bagels at the table to munch on.
You were absolutely flummoxed by the treatment. They always treated you well but this was on another level. But you were grateful.
Your meals came, you took your meds and you three sipped mimosas until Nesta put her napkin on the table to signal she was getting up, “and now we have plans to get to.”
You raised an eyebrow, following suit, Cassian got up and paid the bill even though you had tried to stop him. He playfully smacked your hands away.
You three began to walk to your favorite bookshop. “Okay, sweets.” Cassian said, putting his hands on your shoulders, “you have five minutes to grab however and whatever you want.”
“What?”
Nesta laughed, “five minutes. Unlimited books. Cassian will even carry them for you.”
Cassian grinned, “been lifting extra weights for this reason the past week.” He jokingly flexed his muscles.
“I-okay, when does my time start?” You asked as you three entered the bookstore.
“Now.” Cassian said, a wicked gleam in his eyes.
You took off.
You knew the store like the back of your hand, you knew what books you were eyeing the most. What new releases you wanted. Everything you knew.
You had come back with ten books in your hands and three minutes left, Cassian laughed and threw his arms out to carry them.
In the end, you got thirteen books
You three left the bookstore, and Azriel was there waiting for you. You blinked surprised, “hello there, Shadowsinger.” You smiled, wrapping your arms around him.
“Hello sweetheart,” he smiled back, wrapping you up tight.
Cassian handed your bags off to Azriel and gave you a kiss on the head, “see you tonight for dinner.”
Nesta gave you a kiss on the cheek as the two of them wandered off.
You looked at Azriel, “this day has been insane.” You laughed.
“Hopefully good?” He switched the bags to his other hand while offering his free one to you.
“Amazing!” You looped your arm through his.
You two began walking, “so what's next?” You giggled.
He gave you a fond smile, “your apartment, Amren is there right now. Then we’re gonna eat lunch and then hang out for the rest of the afternoon?” He gave you a shy smile, “if that’s okay?” “It’s perfect!” You squeezed his arm. “Can we play some card games?”
“We can do anything you want, sweetheart.”
You smiled brightly, nearly blinding him.
When you two got to your apartment, you had seen that Morrigan did in fact let Amren inside, Amren who had multiple boxes in front of her. “Hey!” You smiled walking over to hug her.
You were the only person that Amren hugged, and she hugged you tight. She adored you. “Happy birthday, Gem.” She called you “gem” frequently and every time it warmed you with all the warmth and fuzzies.
In all of the boxes were different treasures. A lot of jewelry and crystals.
You spent the late morning organizing them on your bookshelves, and adding your new purchases to them. You were decorating your shelves with the beautiful crystals. Amren helped, of course.
Then when Azriel made a simple lunch, delicious flatbreads. You three ate, then Amren left after giving you a kiss on the head and a promise to see you tonight.
That was all you knew, that tonight something was happening.
Throughout the afternoon, Azriel and you played card games, did puzzles and read. It was a delightfully relaxing afternoon with your favorite bat (don’t tell Cassian or Rhys).
When it came time for you to get ready, you went into your bedroom as Azriel waited in the living room. You put the black sil dress on that had gold embroidery, a beautiful gold headband Amren had just gifted you, as well as some of the jewelry, and Mor’s gift of gold strappy heels.
You opened the door and peaked at Azriel after you were done, “how do I look?” You asked shyly, stepping out. Not realizing how beautiful your curves looked in the dress, you were blushing.
Azriel was looking at you so fondly and softly. “Beautiful. Just absolutely beautiful Y/N.” “Thank you.” You smiled, blushing intensely, taking his arm as you headed off to the townhouse.
You two talked about random tidbits and other things. Laughing together. It healed a part of you, you didn’t know you needed to be healed.
As you walked into the townhouse with Azriel for dinner, you were greeted by a beautiful Feyre as she swept you into her arms. “Happy birthday love.” She squeezed you tight.
Then Rhysand swooped in for his hug. “Happy birthday, Angel.”
“Gods, all the nicknames are happening today.” You laughed.
You pulled away to see the home decorated in banners that read “happy birthday!” as well as flowers, crystals and candles. And the best part?
All your favorite people.
After greeting everyone and hugging them tight, Rhysand and Feyre brought you into the dining room where the food was ready. You saw that Nuala and Cerridwen had cooked all your favorite dishes and you almost started crying.
“Here she goes.” Feyre said from one side of you with Rhys on the other.
“I can’t help it! You even roped the twins into this!” You stepped away and brought the twins into a big hug. “I love you both.” You whispered, stepping away, Nuala reached up and wiped your tears.
You sat at the head of the table, with Rhys on one side and Feyre on the other. Elain made you a birthday flower crown which she had enchanted to last forever.
After a delicious meal, Elain presented you with the cake she made, you had tried to keep your tears at bay but couldn’t. It was your favorite color and flavor, with flowers painted on it in fondant, and a stack of fondant books on top, with a fondant version of you sitting next to them.
Everything was incredible. You didn’t want the night to end simply because you were with your loved ones. And you so rarely got time all together because of different jobs and responsibilities.
After everything was finished, and you all were royally stuffed, Rhys spoke. “So Y/N what did you want most for your birthday and did you get it?” He asked, sipping his wine, however you knew he was testing to see what other stops he could pull out to spoil you.
You just said, “all I wanted was for all of us to be together. And I got that.” You shrugged, sipping your water.
Everyone smiled softly, even Amren and Nesta who had small smiles.
“Then I’m glad we could do it.” Rhysand said giving you a nod with his glass, you picked up yours and nodded at him right back.
The rest of the night was spent eating, laughing and playing card games. Nesta kicked your ass at one of them but you weren’t even close to being upset about it. Just enjoying the time together.
When the night ended, Azriel offered to walk you home. And you knew that even if you said no, he would still do it, just from the shadows. So you said yes, so you could spend more time with him. Your arm was looped through his as you two walked the cobblestone streets of Velaris together.
His wing was wrapped around you to shield you from the cool sea-scented air as you two walked, hearing the music play from the different restaurants.
Before either of you knew it, you were at your apartment door. You leaned against it and looked up at him. “I think I need some cuddles.” You smiled.
“Oh yeah?” Azriel cocked his head, “and who is the lucky person that’s going to cuddle you?”
“You. As always.” You grabbed his hand and pulled him into the warm apartment as he laughed.
You and Azriel frequently snuggled. It’s how you both destressed. There was never anything sexual about it. You just did it. For comfort.
“So….how was your birthday?” Azriel said as you laid down in your bed.
“Wonderful. Words can’t even describe it.” You looked up at him from your pillow.
“Good, you deserve it.” He smiled at you, his hand carding through your hair. She sighed wistfully.
“I’m thankful for all of you, every single day.” “Trust me when I say, we feel the same.” He continued to softly gaze at you. “I don’t think you realize how much we adore you, Y/N.”
You didn’t say anything, just shifted over and put your head on his chest and squeezed him tight in response.
That’s the thing with Azriel, you never needed words with each other. You always knew. He wrapped his arm around you and pulled you closer, and gave you a gentle kiss on the head as you drifted off into a blissful sleep.
The picture perfect birthday.
