#making me feel bad for enjoying it even despite the flaws it DOES have

So, with having completed the full story of Janthir Wilds, and getting a little nap in afterwards, I think I can pinpoint one of the reasons I just can't enjoy it as much as I did SotO. And it's mainly because of the Titans.
First things first, as cool as the designs for Ura, Decima and Greer are, I was kind of expecting something like a modern, HD rendition of this kind of design that genuinely freaks me out a fair deal:

Ever since seeing this image, I got the 'oh I understand why the Mursaat would be terrified' feeling. Wheras I kind of ended up having a 'they're too cute!' reaction with the three in Janthir Wilds, especially with Greer. Not that the rotting husk-like design for Greer, for example, isn't great, I just found it... less terrifying, ahahahah. This could just be my personal tastes in what is/isn't 'soft' or 'cute' though, since they're still not 'appealing' to a general audience, I'd imagine.
A problem I feel that came with Absolution specifically is maybe something I'm missing from not getting to the Titans in GW1 myself; but I had always assumed a Titan was using a twisted and tormented soul, and thus the Titan would reflect that person.
I know the journal mentions there were demons attached to Judge, etc, in the Foundry, and perhaps THOSE were the real Greer, Ura, and Decima, and they just latch onto humans because those are the only ways of being 'shaped' into Titans?
But the way it feels for me, the connection between Judge and co and Ura and co feels too threadbare because they feel too extremely different, and I can't correlate the two groups in my mind, which makes going against the three in the end feel like a sort of anticlimax boss. I couldn't pin which one was supposed to be which Titan (but I think Judge was Ura? Bringing up OTHER questions entirely), and the Titan's dialogues in Godspawn made me unsure if they had truly 'died' died, or just sent back to the Foundry and for some reason were not reshaped into Titans.
Regardless, the souls we fight in the Foundry were not the souls of the Titans, which if we go off the logic that being so tormented and twisted could have been what 'changed' the original souls forever, would they not still BE Greer, Decima, and Ura?
It's too confusing for my tiny brain ahahhaa.
(And we missed some superb horror opportunity for what it could mean for someone to be shaped into a Titan; we've had characters happily being freed from their posthumous torment or servitude, but would the three Mantle members be willing or unwilling to become Titans again after the first 'failed' attempt?)
My personal perception of Titans had been they were extremely powerful; after all, the Mursaat feared them more than anything and despite being extremely powerful beings themselves, were massacred by them. So I thought Titans had to be on a very high power scale... (though I'm aware of people telling me Titans were not as difficult in GW1 as other enemies in the same campaign, but I'm going on lore-based levels of catastrophe.)
And I feel it kind of didn't really come across that way.
Sorry to be that guy, but I'm bringing SotO into this conversation. Specifically, the kryptis.
Kryptis, to me, felt like a very constant and imposing threat. Their spread was wide across Tyria, they had done extreme damage to and killed many people in Gyala Delve before we even had a vague idea of what they were. The kryptis had their claws in each of the wizards, who are currently, I believe, the strongest beings within Tyria itself in absence of the Elder Dragons. Three wizards have been killed by kryptis, and Cerus would 100% have been able to kill Isgarren and the Commander if not for the intervention of ANOTHER kryptis; Peitha. The kryptis had felt like a huge impact and threat, and for me at least, this is something the Titans sorely lacked.
Maybe it was their reach being small (just Janthir), but there's something that glaringly sticks out to me... Janthir Wilds is so far the only expac where a character didn't die in the story. AND NO, before you come at me, hear me out. We do not NEED a character to die to cement the Titans power, BUT when we have lost characters in every step up to now, it makes the Titan threat feel smaller when these legendary beings of horror and destruction that are famed for annihilating one of the strongest races of ancient Tyria do not kill a single person within the story* itself.
*Story as in instances only, not overworld, etc.
I don't WANT characters to die willy nilly, but considering the track record of loss following the commander's footsteps, it just feels /off/, you know? Even with the disastrous effects on the environment, somehow the Titans just didn't feel as big as a threat as they could have, or should have, been. I'm not sure what alternative could have been; but there are ways to make them feel powerful that wouldn't need someone to die.
This was extremely not helped by the horribly underpowered incarnations in the story for Godspawn, where all three titans felt absurdly weak for no clear-cut reason even considering they'd been injured already (because Ura was also fairly paper-y in her one and only fight).
Mabon implying that Eparch was not as big a problem as the three Titans was a bit 'ahaha... are you sure?' for me ^_^;;;; That guy was one step away from having Isgarren literally magically nuke Nayos from existence.
I also felt a bit fatigued because, although I hadn't done the raid myself yet, realizing you fight Greer and Decima a total of 6 times each across all content was a bit 'whew'. (First story battle, second story battle, Godspawn story, Syntri meta, convergences, and the raid).
It's not like I hate Janthir Wilds, far from it actually, but my problem is that the things I like... are not the 'main' aspect of the expac? I loved the Lowland Kodan, the Wizard lore, Commgarren real, the expansion of Seer-Mursaat lore that I had been so, SO looking forward to, those are the things that I thrive on! But in a way like how the Wizards got kinda sidelined in SotO for the kryptis arc (although because I passionately love the kryptis, this was not really a big problem for me specifically), the Titans felt sidelined in their own expansion despite the focus on them, and I just can't explain HOW it feels that way. And trust me, I was really excited to see Titans implemented, it just didn't... work for me as much as I wished it did, and that's sad.
Looking forward to the Dzalana expac where we'll finally face Mingus and his Shadow cronies and maybe find out more about Akeem and Vass! (This is just what I expect and not what I'm 100% placing my bets on; I still have Aquatic Expac hopium.)
#text#jw spoilers#i will definitely write up a post about all i loved with JW to balance this out so i'm not seeming too harsh on this expac#i know a lot of ppl loved JW and i don't wanna be like the kind of ppl i had to deal with when i loved SotO on release and everyone was#making me feel bad for enjoying it even despite the flaws it DOES have

Re8 Women dating HCs
Contains: Lady Dimitrescu, Donna Benevento, & Mother Miranda
WLW
———————————————————————
Tags: Light talks of manipulation, narcissism, and sadism, mental health issues, fluff, angst if you squint hard enough, possessiveness, slightly unhinged behavior, MY personal head cannons, very slight suggestiveness, Mirandas fucking God complex, isolation, religious elements, cuddling, poor perception of love, & tax evasion.
A/N: Im working on sm things rn it’s not even funny. Despite that, I desperately wanted to post something, so here’s some of my hc. No these are not all my hcs, these are just some of the REALISTIC ones I have. These are based on my own personal perception of these fictional characters. You are welcome to disagree with anything I write, but you’re not welcome to harass me about it. Please keep negativity to yourselfs. Anyways, please enjoy!
———————————————————————
Alcina:
-It’s not that Lady Dimitrescu is incapable of loving another, I just think it’s the way she would love.
-Carnal, possessive, dangerous, a little crazed even. Nothing about the lady’s love is sensual or soft. She’s powerful, domineering, and boy does she relish in it. Of course she’s aware of all the things she could do, all the things you’d let her do. So willing, so compliant, so easy to control.
-Alcina is a narcissist through and through. You will bend to her will, to her every need. You’re hers, after all. (We still love you thou)
-I feel like her love is very incessant, very smothering for lack of better words. She’s not exactly clingy, but she needs you around, she needs to feel your presence.
-Always, and I mean always watching you. Nothing you do will go past her. She needs to know exactly where you are and what you’re doing at all times.
-A bit emotionally manipulative. Of course she doesn’t see it that way, she just wants everything to go her way. What’s so wrong with that?
-I think for the most part she’s a little self aware about her flaws and what not, but I wouldn’t say this with 100% certainty. A big part of her doesn’t really see a problem with the way she is. It’s absolutely normal.
-But to be fair, it’s not like anyone would call her out.. so🤷🏻♀️
-Pet names pet names pet names. Alcina absolutely adores them. She only really uses your names unless she’s really pissed. In that case, run.
Donna:
-Shy. So incredibly so that you don’t hear her voice till weeks after working for her. And the way your jaw fell to the ground when you heard it had Angie belly laughing on the ground. If it wasn’t for her, you thought maybe you were hearing things.
-Forgets to eat often. She gets so preoccupied with her dolls, she doesn’t always take the best care of herself. So make sure you remind her to eat:(
-It’ll take AGES to get Donna there, but when you do, she is nothing short of the wait. Very passionate, and a little unhinged.
-Like Alcina, she’s a bit possessive.
-She finally found someone she was comfortable with showing her scare, you’re not going anywhere. You belong to her and that’s final. You’re literally stuck, so get comfortable.
-Values your opinion over everything. Her cooking, her sewing skills, her Garden. Donna swoons at praise. A light pink dusting her cheeks any time you compliment her, no matter how minor.
-Poor Donna has been alone for quite some time now. Touch starved as well as touch repulsed. Have fun with that :)
- Canonically, Donna has really bad mental health issues, which causes her to lash out and make rash decisions. She’s not abusive by any means, just a lot to handle.
-She gets into her own head a lot. Constantly convincing herself none of this is real. That one day she’ll wake up and you’ll be gone.
-I know she has manic episodes. Cannot convince me otherwise. Before you, they were almost unmanageable. Your first experience dealing with Donna during one terrified you. You were so worried about Donna, you had no idea what was happening.
-You tried desperately to comfort her. Unfortunately the voices were stronger than your weak attempts.
-After a while, she finally calmed down and explained that catastrophe as best as she could without scaring you off.
-At first Donna didn’t really understand the purpose of cuddling. It’s not that she didn’t want to, she was just truly confused. After having the significance of cuddling explained to her, she fell in love with it.
-Unironically, she’s the big spoon. She loves holding you, making sure you’re safe in her arms. Now, it’s the only way she can fall asleep.
Miranda:
-This bitch is so crazy.
-All shits and giggles aside, this woman is absolutely sadistic.
-Mind games are inevitable. Especially if she’s truly in love with you, in her dark and twisted way.
-Possessive asf.
-Did I already say possessive?
-Miranda is definitely stingy and will isolate you from your friends/family. Why do you need them when you have her? She’s your Goddess, she’s all you need. Never mind everyone else.
-Definitely the type to tell you to take a nap if you ever say you’re tired of her shit.
-You’re not going anywhere. Nice try, but no.
-I know this is obvious, but her God complex is really top tier. I mean seriously.
-Absolutely loves being worshipped, and not just in the bedroom, if you know what I mean. She wants to be put first, she wants to be your number one priority, your Goddess, your everything.
-She will find a way to incorporate her status & power in everything she does.
-She loves you, but you must always remember your place, under her. Figuratively and literally.
-Despite her cut off personality, she’s definitely a cuddlier. Especially after a long day of failed experiments and aggravating meetings.
-Like Donna, Miranda has been alone for almost a century. She’s so damn touch starved yet also incredibly touch repulsed at the same time. Have fun coping.
-Of course she threatened you if you ever told anyone thou. I mean can you imagine THE Mother Miranda being spooned? Imagine what the public would say.
-Fucking tax evader.
-After she gets Eva back, successfully, she lessens up, but only a bit. Like Alcina, she is the way she is and she doesn’t really see the problem with it.
I want all three of them so badly.

SLEAZE ✶⋆.˚ MIYA OSAMU
CHAPTER THREE: dinner
SOUNDTRACK: freak by feeble little horse
warning: implied/mentioned ed
She leans out of her bathroom window. In one hand, she balances a lit cigarette and a half-eaten granola bar. She takes a drag from her cigarette, then a bite from the granola bar, smoke and chunks of chewy strawberry and oats mixing on her tongue. It’s early in the morning, blue and cold, and it’s drizzling. Tiny drops of rainwater gather on the tips of her fur jacket. If she shook around like a dog, it’d all splatter all over her bathroom, which can’t be good for the fur, if it’s real. If it’s not, it won’t make a difference.
She decides to risk it for the view.
Osamu’s across the street, transporting cardboard boxes from the back of a small car in through the front door of Onigiri Miya. She’s been watching him for a couple minutes now, enjoying him and her breakfast at the same time. He hasn’t noticed her, which makes her feel kind of creepy, but not enough to stop.
Despite the cold and the rain, he makes the journey from the back of his car to the front door of his shop in just a tight, black long sleeved shirt that outlines perfectly which muscles of his are straining as he lifts and carries each box. She gnaws on her food, and exhales the smoke through her nostrils. She’s always had a thing about his arms.
Osamu is perfect, she thinks. It’s hard to imagine his flaws. Whenever she thinks of him, she always tries. Late at night, lying restless in her bed, she imagines him as a habitual liar, as ill-tempered, as wickedly manipulative. She tries to picture him talking over her or letting a door slam in her face. Even small things: an obnoxious laugh, weird toes, bad breath. And it’s all sort of unfathomable. Her brain won’t let her imagine Osamu as anything other than flawless.
He’s returning back to the car once more when she calls attention to herself. She swallows, and leans further out the window. “Hey, Miya!” she calls out.
He stops, head swiveling around for a moment before his eyes land on her. For a second, they widen in surprise, but then his expression eases, and a soft smile tugs and his lips. “Hey,” he calls back, looking up at her second-story window. “What are you doing up so early?”
She’s always up this early. She had fallen into the habit of late nights and early mornings when she was younger, and never bothered to break the routine. Which, she figures, is kind of unfortunate. It would be a lot easier to let life pass her by if she slept until noon every day. Instead, she has to be awake and bright-eyed for as much of it as possible.
“Enjoying my breakfast and the view,” she tells him, winking as she does so, and she doesn’t miss the slight, pink blush that blooms across his cheeks. “Are you restocking or something?”
He nods, looking back over his shoulder towards his car parked on the curb. “Yeah, there was a sale on disposables at the restaurant wholesale, so I figured I’d get there early before they sold out and restock while I could. Though I did have to take an elbow to the gut to get some takeout containers.”
She leans further out the window, now standing on the tips of her toes. “I’m sure your customers appreciate your bravery,” she tells him with a smile, “I know I do.”
Osamu blushes again, and it makes her feel smug. He crosses his arms over his chest. She chews on the inside of her cheek. “Well, at least that makes it worth it.”
The front of her thighs press against the wall just below the window. She kicks one leg up behind her. “Want me to get you a coffee?” she asks.
He raises an eyebrow at her. “So you can get me a coffee, but I can’t take you out to dinner?” he questions. “That hardly seems fair.”
“Aww, c‘mon, let me just get you a coffee. Just one coffee,” she insists. “You deserve it.”
Osamu sighs, and looks down at the ground for a moment, as if he is considering some great dilemma. When he looks back up at her, he gives her a soft smile. “Fine,” he relents, “I’ll take whatever you get.”
She returns his smile, and leans back into her bathroom. She puts the cigarette out on the window sill, and abandons her half-eaten granola bar next to it. Without saying another word, she closes the window.
✶⋆.˚
Osamu makes a twisted face as the coffee hits his tongue. “Black?” he questions as he holds up the cup away from his face, examining it.
She shrugs, leaning against the counter of Ongiri Miya. Osamu stands on the other side, leaning over on his forearm. It’s oddly intimate, being in the restaurant before it opens, with the door locked and all the lights off. If she sat up on the edge of her seat and leaned in closer, her forehead would bump his. “You said you wanted whatever I got,” she reminds him.
“This wasn’t what I was expecting,” he confesses to her, taking another apprehensive sip. “I thought it’d be a lot sweeter. At least cream.”
At her lowest and most obsessive points, the thought of putting anything in her coffee, cream, syrups, sugar, would’ve been enough to make her break into stress hives. She would force cups of hot, black coffee down her throat no matter how bitter it tasted. It’s not really as if she ever started enjoying the taste of black coffee, since she doesn’t ever really enjoy the taste of anything, it’s more that she had just gotten used to it. Now sugary lattes and shots of flavor seem so sweet they make her feel nauseous.
So, black coffee it is.
“Black’s the best way to drink it, y’know” she tells Osamu, not really believing it. “You just gotta develop a taste for it.”
As if trying to prove a point, Osamu tilts his head back and takes a large gulp of coffee. And she takes this opportunity to let her eyes linger over his exposed throat, and imagines, briefly, what it would look like stained in dark purple bruises and the deep shade of her lipstick. When he drops his head, she lets his gaze linger for a moment before she lifts her eyes to his, and she hopes he knows what she was thinking of.
“It’s bitter,” he says, “but I could get used to it.”
She grins at him. Teeth bared, and all. “I’ll get you addicted to it,” she teases lightly.
Osamu’s eyes shine. “What do I owe you for the coffee?” he asks.
“Nothing,” she replies. “For now, though. I reserve the right to change my mind. I kind of like the idea of you owing me something.”
He snickers, and lets his head drop for a second, and he looks back up at her. “Make up your mind about dinner yet?”
“Hmm,” she hums, and then pushes away from the counter, standing. “No word yet. And y’know what, you should probably get back to work. I think your coffee distracted you from your restocking.”
“It certainly did,” Osamu says, watching her as she turns on her heel and heads for the door. “I’ll see you at lunch.”
Once she reaches the door, she turns her head and gives him a bright smile. “See ya then, Miya.”
✶⋆.˚
She only has two friends, and has only ever had two friends, which doesn’t leave her with a lot to spare. So she can’t ever really get mad at either one of them without running the risk of being even more alone than she already is.
Which sucks, because she’s really mad at Kuroo right now.
Several pink, plump shrimp swim in the broth before her. And she just sits there, staring down at it, repulsed. She hates shrimp. She can’t stand them. The thought of them touching her food makes her stomach turn, and here they are, contaminating her meal. She shudders.
“I’m sorry,” Kuroos says, now repeating himself several times over, but it falls on deaf ears. “I could’ve sworn you said shrimp!”
“No,” Kenma says through a mouthful of noodles, “she’s always hated shrimp. You just never listen.”
The three of them are seated around her coffee table in her living room, some foreign volleyball game playing on her television. Kuroo does this sometimes. He brings Kenma and takeout to her door and insists on spending the night splayed out on her couch, watching her television. And she usually allows it, because she likes Kuroo, and is willing to tolerate the uncertainty of whatever restaurant he orders from in exchange for his company.
But this error might be too much to forgive.
Kuroo grabs at her takeout container, and slides it away from her, swapping it with his own bowl. “Here, you can have mine. It’s pork.”
She looks up at Kuroo with a disapproving expression. “We can’t just switch. You already started eating it,” she tells him, picturing in her mind just how much of Kuroo’s saliva has already seeped into the dish. She has to suppress a shudder, and pushes the bowl away from her. “That’s disgusting.”
Kuroo sighs, and drops his head back. “I cannot keep up with your rules.”
She groans, and slumps against the couch behind her, her legs sliding under the coffee table, while Kuroo watches on with wide, stressed eyes. Kenma slurps at his own dish, staring flatly at the both of them. “You have to eat something,” Kenma tells her, and there is no room for argument in his words.
Part of her knows that she’s being ridiculous, and that there’s really nothing stopping her from rifling through her fridge and finding something edible. It would be easy enough, and wouldn’t take long, but lying there with her head flat against the couch cushion, it seems like an impossible task. She can feel them both staring at her, waiting for her to take some action, but she just groans again, the only thing she can think to do to express her dissatisfaction.
Kuroo leans towards her, and pokes at her arm. “Do you want me to order you something else?” he asks like he’s afraid of upsetting her further.
“She can find food in her kitchen,” Kenma interjects. He does not have the same fear.
She groans again, and forces herself to stand. There’s a limit to how much she can sit and groan and whine with Kenma around. The one downside to her forcing Kenma to spend so much time with her is that he’s gotten entirely used to her. Her rules and her habits and her frequent mental breakdowns don’t make him uncomfortable anymore. She can’t weaponize his uneasiness against him the same way she can with Kuroo.
Her feet drag the whole way to her kitchen, and Kuroo calls out another desperate, “Sorry!” which she entirely ignores. Instead, she throws open her cabinet doors, looking in them for only a second before she moves onto the next one, leaving the cabinet doors wide open. There’s really no point in looking; she knows her kitchen inventory like she’s paid to. Eventually, she’ll settle on the leftover hamburger that’s in her fridge, but she wants to keep throwing her little fit first.
She’s staring into the mostly empty pantry, containing only a bag of white rice and canned diced tomatoes, when there’s a knock on the door. At once, Kuroo shouts into the kitchen, “There’s someone at your door!"
A terrible thought crosses through her mind that it’s her mother at the door, and she tenses up at once. “Will you answer it?” she calls back to him, voice wavering, and then calls again, “Wait, no, make Kenma get it,” just in case it is her mother.
She’s closing her cabinet doors, hands slightly shaking at the image of her mother standing at her doorway, holding some kind of script in her hands. Her limbs move strangely, and her heart thumbs erratically. Kenma pops his head into the kitchen. “It’s for you.”
She stares at him. “Is it my mom?” she questions.
“Nope,” Kenma replies easily, and then slides back into her living room.
Relief floods over her, and she follows Kenma, taking long strides towards her front door. And she doesn’t really question who else could be standing at her doorstep after dark once she accepts that it’s not her mother. Still, she’s surprised when she throws open her front door to see Osamu standing on the other side.
He’s standing there in his tight black shirt and his Onigiri Miya hat with a small takeout container held delicately in his hands. He looks nervous, shifting his weight from one foot to another, his eyes not staying in one spot for more than a second. He smiles slightly at the sight of her. “Hey,” he greets. “I’m not interrupting anything am I?”
She tilts her head to the side, and examines him. Her body still feels out of sync, and there’s still a lingering frustration in her muscles. Seeing Osamu adds in this shot of adrenaline, on top of it all, and she just doesn’t know the right way to act. “Nah,” she answers, and then straightens out. “Nothing important. What’s up? Did you miss me?”
Osamu lets out a short laugh.. “I, erm, had a takeout order cancel. It’s salmon, your favorite. I figured it’s better you take it than it going to waste.” He holds up the takeout box to her. She wonders if it’s one of the new ones he got this morning. “It’s still fresh.”
She doesn’t have great control over her emotions. Little things feel big to her. The thought of her mother appearing unannounced sends her body into a panic and she reacts to shrimp in her food as if it were poison. So when Osamu appears at her door, comfort food in his hand, his adorable hat pulled over his dark hair and his goddamn arms, she can’t stop herself from launching herself at him.
Osamu takes a step back to steady himself, and his arms apprehensively circle loosely around her waist. She practically hangs off of him, standing on her toes and tightening her arms around his neck. She can’t help herself. She leans back, and places a kiss on his cheek. “Miya Osamu,” she says, still clinging onto him, “you’re my hero.”
She knows it’s absurd, and slightly obsessive, but she swears, in that moment, she feels that she could be in love with him.

.。*♡ A/N: I'm very normal about Idia, guys. Being his friend would be great, I just know. Yet he is an interesting character to me so at the same time he'd want you to spend all the time by his side, he also idolizes a version of you, smth smth I love him, enjoy this <3
.。*♡ Warning: Yandere content, control and manipulation tendencies, guilt tripping, gn!reader

.。*♡ Idia becomes intensely possessive when he first make friends with you, something he’s not used to. His loyalty runs deep and he expects the same in return, often feeling jealous and anxious if you spends time with "the normies", as he likes to call them. He tries to monopolize your attention by filling your days with online games, late-night chats and gossip sessions and anime marathons, making it difficult for you to spend time with anyone else. He even try your blogs if it is something he can do inside his or your room.
.。*♡ Sometimes he beg you to spend the day in his room, studying online as he does, when he is dealing with a particularly bad day - which are slowly turning into a daily thing.
.。*♡ While Idia doesn’t confront people directly, he’s skilled at subtly manipulating you. If you mention hanging out with someone else, he’ll sulk or act overly dramatic, making you feel guilty for not spending time with him. He wants youto believe you’re the only one, besides Ortho and his family, who truly understands him, ensuring that you stay close. His tech expertise also gives him an advantage over you as he keeps tabs on your online activity, always aware of who you’re talking to or what you’re doing when you are away from him. And if you tell about how suffocating is to be with someone like him or something like that, Idia will make little changes in himself so you won't be bothered by how he acts.
.。*♡ To further isolate you, Idia draws you deeper into his world, introducing rare games and niche interests that only he can share with you. If you try to make plans outside your usual routine, he’ll always have something special, a one time offer that you simply can't resist. Deep down, his tendencies come from a deep fear of rejection. He’s terrified of being abandoned and he believes the only way to secure your friendship is to make you depend on him as much as he depends on you. He wants to be your hero, strong, fierce, yet he turns into your villain, your tormentor.
.。*♡ As the friendship deepens, Idia’s clinginess becomes more apparent, though he tries to hide it behind his usual awkwardness. He starts to get anxious whenever you doesn’t respond immediately to messages, bombarding you with worried texts or even calling, something he normally hates doing. When you finally reply, he plays it off but the relief he feels is palpable. He needs that constant reassurance that you’re still there, still close to him, that you still like him.
.。*♡ Idia’s jealousy, though subtle, can become intense. If he notices you are growing closer to someone else, he starts planting doubts in your mind, making snide comments or pointing out flaws in the new person’s behavior. His aim is always to make sure you realizes that no one will ever be as loyal or understanding as he is. He never wants to be obvious about it but his bitterness leaks out in small doses, enough to make his friend second-guess their other relationships.
.。*♡ When things don’t go as planned, Idia retreats into self-pity, making you feel responsible for his mood. He might withdraw entirely, going quiet for days at a time, only to return with cryptic messages about feeling “left behind” or how much he hates being alone. This emotional tug-of-war keeps you constantly on edge, never wanting to hurt him or push him away, which only feeds into Idia’s control over you. Kind of adjacent to a post I saw earlier and I think this is similar to a point the OP was trying to make but moreso I want to make.
I hate how much people can at times act like Azriel's romantic potential starts and ends with Elain. I get having a bad taste in your mouth after the BC since he was using unhealthy coping mechanisms. But Elain is also avoiding the reality of her mating bond, and I've personally always interpreted Azriel and Elain to have the same depth of feelings.
I believe they're both using each other.
I don't really think Azriel hurting Elain in that moment or using his attraction to her as an unhealthy coping mechanism is really that much of an indictment on his character. I also don't believe that Azriel would become a "player" or "scummy" for projecting whatever lingering feelings he has towards Mor and the idea that they would be mates onto Elain now only to end up with Gwyn in the end. Especially if we don't know if Elain is doing the exact same thing he is, consciously or unconsciously. And even if it was that deep or if Elain harbors hurt or resentment, characters hurt their love interests all the time, even when they don't end up together. (Chaol, Nesryn, & Aelin being immediate examples that come to mind).
So I don't really feel like it's fair to center Elain and their BC interaction in how Azriel is characterized around romance as a whole when we have books worth of him pining over Mor from a distance.
We have him volunteering to go dancing with Mor (something we learn he later does enjoy all on his own in the HOFAS BC). We have him acting on the desire to protect her despite laying on the floor bleeding out before Hybern, for example.
And even his platonic interactions show his kindness and overall thoughtfulness, particularly with Feyre, Nesta, and Gwyn. But I want to showcase the moment that, in hindsight, made me love Azriel as much as I do:
“I don’t really know where I fit in anymore,” I admitted, perhaps only because the wind was screeching around us and Rhys had already winnowed ahead to where Cassian’s dark form flew—beyond the wall. “I’ve been alive almost five and a half centuries, and I’m not sure of that, either,” Azriel said.
This line didn't initially stand out to me at first until we get into ACOFAS, where Rhys says this about Azriel:
Azriel studied the map for a long minute. I gave him the silence, knowing that he’d speak only when he was damn well ready. As boys, Cassian and I had devoted hours to pummeling Az, trying to get him to speak. He’d never once yielded.
To me, this categorizes Azriel as a character that is never kind out of obligation or expectation, but simply kind and thoughtful out of the conscious choice to be this way. He chooses when to speak, when to take action.
Does that mean he's without flaw or that people are always going to like him? No, absolutely not. No character is going to be universally loved. And I understand that favoring characters has so much to do with personal preference on top of it, which is never truly going to be "right" or "wrong".
My post isn't really to try and convince people to like Azriel, it's more to acknolwedge that Elain is but one brief aspect to his overall character's romantic (and subsequently healing) arc and shouldn't be the only lense through which we view him. Azriel has been alive for over 500 years, and Elain has only been in his presence for two of those years. Mor has been around for all of them.
I think it's more prescient to view Azriel's romantic potential through more than just the lense of how he interacted with Elain.

What are friends for?
Note:
This is my first ever post, so please be kind! I've been working on this piece for a few days, and there will be more parts to come, but it may take some time to complete. The story will also include text messages between you and your friends (SMAU). I'll do my best to maintain a good length for the story, but there may be some shorter parts. Also, I'm new to this, so there may be a few errors, but I hope you enjoy the story! :)
Status: ongoing!!
Updates: Whenever I can, no set date.
WC: 2756
Description: Characters are aged up. Y/N's stuck in a toxic relationship with her controlling boyfriend, feeling lost and doubting herself. Now, she's facing a crucial choice: stay put or find the courage to break free and reclaim her independence. Pairing: megumi fushiguro x FEM!reader
Genre/Warnings: [18+] This story contains toxic boyfriend, cursing, name calling, self-doubt/hate, angst, breaking up, post-breakup, alcohol, drunk moments, new friends, dating!au, college!au, no curses!au, dark humour, dark jokes. SMAU.
Your friends have been telling you to leave your boyfriend for months now. They warned you about him, about his manipulative, controlling, and narcissistic nature, which contributes to his toxicity. They keep pointing out his flaws – how he always wants. No. NEEDS to tag along wherever you go, how he tries to control what you wear and who you hang out with. And don't even get started on the name-calling and arguments that seem to happen like every single day. But despite all their warnings, you find yourself wondering if maybe it's just his way of showing he cares… it was all out of love wasn’t it? If he didn’t care about you he wouldn’t act the way he does…
Right…?
You're constantly caught in a loophole of conflicting feelings. On one hand, you can't help but notice the red flags they've been waving in your face. But on the other hand, there's a part of you that wants to believe there's genuine love behind his actions. He loves you?
Right…?
Still, you can't help but question: does all this make him a "bad boyfriend"? Sure, he's not physically abusive, but his mood swings leave you feeling like you're walking on eggshells. As you grapple with these thoughts, you can't help but wonder where to draw the line between love and toxicity.
"Y/N!"
You snapped back to reality as Maki's voice cut through your thoughts, finding yourself now parked in front of Yuta's house, a 15-minute drive from your own.
"Are you okay? You've been lost in thought the entire car ride here," Maki asked, a mix of concern and confusion evident in her tone.
"Yeah, sorry about that. I was just thinking about the exams coming up," you replied with a forced smile, though it didn't seem to convince her entirely. Luckily for you, she didn't question further.
You made sure to silence your phone before heading out, knowing the argument that would likely occur with your boyfriend over your plans with friends. It wasn't news to you that he disapproved of your friendship with Yuta and Inukami, despite having plenty of female friends himself. Hypocritical isn't it. But today, you decided to take a stand. You were tired of the never-ending arguments and his controlling behaviour. It felt like you couldn't say or do anything without setting him off, and honestly, you were fed up with it.
You felt it was the right decision, even if it meant facing another argument later. You were determined to spend the day enjoying yourself with your friends, and if that meant upsetting him, then you were willing to deal with the consequences. After all, arguments had become a daily occurrence between you two, so what harm would one more do?
You didn’t quite know where this newfound confidence had come from. Normally, the thought of upsetting him would send shivers down your spine, making you hesitant to go against his wishes. But today was different. You were reaching a breaking point, tired of his behaviour and the constant strain it put on you. Mentally, you were drained. Ever since getting together with him, you'd been affected with a sense of unhappiness, a feeling that even your friends had picked up on. All they wanted was to see you happy again, but it felt like an impossible challenge to break free from his control and spend time with them. He dictated every aspect of your life, and you were beginning to realize just how suffocating it had become.
He felt like a never-ending storm cloud, hovering over you wherever you went, casting a shadow of negativity that left you feeling drained and miserable. It was as if his presence drained your strength, both physically and mentally, until you were left feeling defeated. You knew deep down that the only way to find a “cure” was to get rid of him, but it was far from simple. If it were that easy, you would've done it long ago, at the first signs of trouble.
Believe it or not, he wasn't always like this. That's why you were drawn to him in the first place. But as time passed, things only seemed to deteriorate. A part of you held onto hope that he would revert to the person he once was—caring, supportive, and loving. Yet, as months turned into nearly a year, nothing changed. If anything, it only seemed to worsen.
Why? Why did he change? Was it something you did? Was it your fault? Did you somehow fall short? He always made you question your self worth. He made you believe that this was what you deserved—that you deserved to be hurt, to be broken. He convinced you that you weren't worthy of more.
You and Maki entered Yuta's house, using the spare key you both had. It was a common practice among your close group of friends; you all had keys to each other's homes. After all, you practically grew up together, so there was nothing unusual about dropping by unannounced.
Inumaki and Yuta greeted you warmly as you entered the living room, where they were too focused on a video game. As the hours passed, laughter filled the room, followed by playful teasing and occasional cussing at each other due to the intense gaming moments. You all talked about life, ate your favourite meals, and for the first time in a while, you felt a sense of happiness return. It was as if you were reconnecting with the positive, joyful version of yourself that had been buried beneath the weight of recent struggles.
"I'll be right back! Just need to use the bathroom," you announce before grabbing your phone and heading off.
"Do you want us to pause the movie?" Yuta offers, showing his consideration for your absence.
"No, it's okay! Keep watching, I'll be quick," you assure them with a laugh as you slip away.
Time flew by, and before you knew it, it was almost 9pm. Your peaceful day took an abrupt turn when you saw multiple missed phone calls from no other, your loser of a boyfriend.
**5 MISSED PHONE CALLS AND MESSAGES BETWEEN Y/N & BF**
Luckily, Maki, Inukami, and Yuta were too engaged in the movie to notice your lengthened absence. However, tears welled up in your eyes as you read the messages, feeling the weight of self-doubt creeping in once again.
"I’m just a bitch. That’s all I am. I'm nobody," you muttered to yourself, your eyes red as you struggled to contain your emotions. You couldn't afford to show weakness in front of your friends. This shouldn't affect you, you reminded yourself. You knew this was coming, so why did it hurt so much?
Knock Knock
A knock on the bathroom door interrupted your thoughts. "Hey, Y/N. You okay in there?" Maki's concerned voice broke through your internal chaos.
Fuck.
Of course, Maki sensed something was wrong. She had picked up on it the moment she picked you up. She wasn't one to pry, though. She respected your privacy, and if you didn't bring up the issues first, she wouldn't force them out of you. That's why you cherished her friendship so much—she was the best friend anyone could ask for.
You wanted to tell her, you really did, but you knew all too well what her response would be, and frankly, you didn't want to hear it—not today. All you wanted was to be with your friends, to immerse yourself in their company and forget about your troubles, if only for a little while. You didn't want them worrying about you or your mental state. So you took a deep breath and plastered on a smile, hiding all the negativity like you always did.
"Yeah, sorry about that. I was just on the phone with my mom," you said, forcing a smile as you opened the bathroom door, only to be met with Maki's skeptical expression. Her raised eyebrow spoke volumes, questioning your excuse without saying a word. But she didn't press further. Instead, she offered a soft smile and placed a comforting hand on your back.
"You're missing the movie. We decided to pause it when you didn't return after five minutes. Come on, let's go," she said gently, leading you back to the living room.
You both made your way downstairs and settled back onto the couch, resuming the movie with the others. After a few minutes, Yuta stood up from his spot and took a seat beside you, leaning in closer to whisper in your ear so only you could hear him.
"Hey, I know you haven't been feeling your best lately, and I understand why... But I want you to know that you can always talk to me. To us. We're here for you, no matter what." he whispered, his words causing your heart to stop for a moment. A soft smile spread across your lips as he leaned back, his eyes meeting yours with warmth.
"Thank you," you replied softly, leaning your head against his shoulder as the movie continued. Resting on each other like this was a familiar gesture among your group—it was something you all did since childhood, a sign of trust and comfort. So when you leaned on Yuta's shoulder, it wasn't a romantic gesture—it was more like seeking comfort from an older brother figure. Your friends have always been there for you, caring and supportive, much like older siblings would be.
Finally the movie finished, with the time now showing 11:16pm—it’s very late, thank god you guys had no classes scheduled for the next two days.
"It's getting late, Y/N. Are you ready to head back?" Maki asked, her expression soft with concern.
Before you could answer, Inukami jumped in with a hopeful tone, asking if you guys could stay a bit longer. You could tell he was really loving the reunion, bringing back memories of all the fun times your group had shared in the past… just like before you got into a relationship.
"Yeah, come on, Maki and Y/N! We haven't had this much fun in a while. It feels good for the group to get back together again," Yuta chimed in, his gaze shifting between Maki and you. The collective attention turned to you, though you knew it wasn't intentional—they subconsciously understood that the decision rested with you, or rather, with your boyfriend's expectations.
Even though it was late, the idea of going home to an empty house, knowing your boyfriend would be out, doing who knows what, filled you with dread. You knew it would only trigger more overthinking and anxiety so with a reassuring smile, you decided against it. Tonight, you didn't feel like going home, and that was perfectly okay.
"Fuck it," you thought, smiling back at them.
"Why don't we have a sleepover?" You ask, breaking the silence. Their eyes widen in shock, the suggestion catches everyone off guard. It's been a while since the last sleepover, back before you started dating your controlling boyfriend. They've tried to organize some since then, but you always declined, due to your boyfriend's disapproval.
Of course. Typical.
Their initial shock quickly turns into smiles and nods as they exchange glances before turning back to you.
"Let's do it!" Maki says with excitement.
All of them cheered in excitement, and the lively conversation continued throughout the night until exhaustion finally led to all of you drifting off to sleep on Yuta's spacious and comfortable couch. Despite the cozy setup, you found it hard to sleep as your mind continued to race, clouded by thoughts of him once again. Unable to find peace, you quietly slipped outside to the backyard, just to get some air.
Yuta awoke shortly afterward, noticing your absence. He got up from the couch, careful not to disturb Maki and Inumaki and began searching the house, half expecting to find you sleeping in his room. But you weren't there. He started to slightly panic as he considered the possibility of you leaving without informing anyone. How did you get home? Was something wrong? Why would you leave without saying anything?
As his mind rushed with worry, Yuta made his way to the backyard door and spotted you sitting on the stairs. Leaning against the door frame for a moment, he gathered his thoughts before joining you outside, silently taking a seat beside you.
"Hey," Yuta says as he settles beside you.
You jump at the sudden sound, caught off guard by his unexpected presence. "Omg, Yuta," you playfully shove his shoulder, "don't sneak up on me like that."
"Sorry," he chuckles softly, "didn't mean to scare you."
"What are you doing out here this late?" he questions.
"Couldn't fall asleep so I decided to get some air."
"Something on your mind?" He asks with concern.
I smile at him. "No."
"Come on, Y/N. I've known you for years; you think I can't tell when something's on your mind..."
You both sit there in silence for a moment before he speaks up again.
"Is it—"
"Mhm. But I don't want to talk about him. I'm here with you guys today, and that's what's important. Not him," you state, trying to change the conversation away from your boyfriend.
Yuta gives you a reassuring smile and nods, but then an awkward silence settles between you. It's unusual; conversations with your friends usually flow effortlessly, so why does it feel so difficult now?
After a moment, you decide to break the silence.
"Yuta..." you begin hesitantly.
He meets your gaze with a soft look. "Yeah?"
"I'm thinking about breaking up with him, you know," you confess.
Yuta's eyes widened in shock, a spark of excitement shining in him. As your best friend, he genuinely cares about your well-being and wants what's best for you. They all do, and they know that leaving your boyfriend will bring out the best in you, bring back the real you.
"Really?! How come... I mean, I already know why, but I'm just curious after all the times we've mentioned it to you, you never really pa—"
"Yuta," you interject, giggling at his enthusiasm.
"I've been doing a lot of thinking, and being here with you guys today reminded me of the times we used to have together before him and I got together. And honestly... I haven't felt happier and more relaxed in a long time until now. It's like when I'm with you guys, I'm constantly smiling, laughing, talking, and I never feel judged. But with him, I feel so... miserable. I don't even remember the last time he and I actually talked and had a laugh together. It's always arguments, and he's the one who always starts them over nothing."
Yuta places a comforting hand on your shoulder and gently wipes away the tears on your face. You hadn't realized you were crying. You tried your hardest not to cry for months, but while telling Yuta how you felt, you couldn't hold it in anymore.
"Shhh... it's okay, Y/N. I'm glad you feel like yourself when you're with us. You deserve so much better than that jerk," he reassures you, his words bringing a sense of comfort.
He never fails to make you laugh.
"Thanks, Yuta," you say gratefully.
"Hey, what are you guys doing outside?" Maki and Inumaki mumble sleepily as they stand at the door.
Yuta grins mischievously and glances over at them. "What's with that ugly grin?" Maki jokes, prompting laughter from everyone.
"MAKI!" you all shout in unison, teasing her.
Yuta can't contain his excitement any longer. "Y/N is planning on breaking up with her boyfriend!" he blurts out.
If Maki and Inumaki thought they were awake before, they're definitely wide awake now. They exchange shocked glances between you and Yuta, repeating the gesture several times. You can't help but smile; despite the gravity of the situation, you feel a sense of pride. Proud that you've finally gained the courage to do something you've been wanting to do for months.
"You're not messing with us, right? Because I swear to god Y/N, if I find out yo—" Maki begins, her voice tinged with concern.
You cut her off before she can finish her sentence. "I swear I'm not messing with you guys. I'm going to do it tomorrow night."
Yipeee!! Go Y/N!!! finally we've all been waiting for this moment.
im currently working on the next part so please be patient!
Also, thank you so much for reading!

Is it just me or do people just overestimate Peri in some aspects?
Especially people on reddit. I haven't watched the entire cartoon yet, but damn. Some people SERIOUSLY think Peri is a super caring perfect godparent and a really kind character. Like, the best version of Cosmo. Are you serious?? It feels like some people who think that haven't watched the original series. Because people there clearly overestimate Peri and underestimate Cosmo. Yes, Cosmo is far from a genius, but he's definitely not a complete idiot either. And he definitely has a lot more experience than his son. He's already thousands of years old, while his son is only in his 20s…

I feel sorry for Cosmo and Dev 😭
Well, yes, Dev is a spoiled kid. Yes, he used magic for bad purposes. However, he is still just a child who, despite everything, tries to become better. Even if he does such thoughtless and bad things. Well, what else can you expect if no one in particular was involved in his upbringing, and his father himself does not pay enough attention to him.
I am also sure that when Peri first met Dev, he was more worried about his job at first. Which is understandable. After all, it was his first time and he was afraid of making even the slightest mistake. Because of all these rules and his peculiarity of magic, he developed severe anxiety.
I think the idea of creating Poof as an adult is to show through his character the real difficulties that people go through at this age and the pressure of society. And you know, it suits him so well. In the original series, he was always in the spotlight and everyone always had high expectations for him. It is clear that at an older age, this will not affect him in the best way.
Still, sometimes Peri didn't behave in the best way. He had just gotten his job at the first time. Even with all the education he had gone through, it wouldn't make him a good godparent right away, that's for sure. After all, what's important in this job is not the training but the experience itself, which he clearly doesn't have yet. People also forget that Peri initially wanted to be a tooth fairy not a fairy godparent. So I wonder: wasn't it primarily the influence of his parents and the fact that THEY wanted to see him in this job and not Peri himself? In real life, unfortunately, this often happens and all this later ends in a not very good way.
So even if Peri had Hazel as his godchild, it still wouldn't have solved the problem. And not because he's bad as a godparent, but because this job is simply not right for him. In some moments, he acted pretty disinterested even when Dev wasn't acting like an egoist. Yes, now people will throw various excuses at me about this, but still. However, it's even clear that Peri clearly doesn't enjoy this job. Seriously, if you remember Cosmo and Wanda from the original cartoon, they mostly enjoyed what they do (although they've been doing this for thousands of years). The thing is that they just get along well with children and find a common language with them. Perhaps I think the creators wanted to show the problem in choosing your profession and what you really like to do in life. And what difficulties you have to go through to find what you really like to do.
But some people just don't care about it, considering Peri the best in literally everything. In fact, they consider him as tumblr "star"man and Dev as a simple spoiled child. Crazy fans forget that almost every character has their own shortcomings and bad sides. Well, and also the opposite of all this. I consider Peri more as a neutral character with his good qualities and flaws. Still, it is impossible to deny that in some moments he really did not act in the best way.

Peri’s simps detected 📸(don’t take it seriously lol)
And this is a very common situation in fandoms…

DAV is maximized (made for?) Tank/Warrior players
Curiosity is absolutely one of my fatal flaws. I was sorta feeling shitty about the whole 'you probably just suck at the fighting system in DAV' thing.
Let me preface this with saying that I'm good with rogues. It's my usual playstyle and I almost always do a first run of any RPG as a rogue.
What I'm really not all that good at? Tanks. Pretty much any other class I'm at least suitably competent with. I mean, I can tank, but it's just not something I'm more than acceptably good at. I also have very little experience with them. I think I've tanked in 3 games? Out of the, it must be hundreds, of games I've played? I just don't prefer to tank. I'm a rogue/mage/healer style player. The one who backs up the tank or keeps them on their feet, y'know?
So, because curiosity will likely be the death of me at some point, and despite never wanting to touch it again, I made a warrior character in DAV. I just... had to know if it was me or the game. I suppose I enjoy actually being a good gamer more than I suspected. DAV offended my pride, perhaps. Self-awareness isn't comfortable.
That fighting system, that I had so much trouble with as a rogue (with other rogues and a mage as backup since we don't get our tank companions til later in act one) has, so far, been so fucking easy as a warrior I'm actually thinking of increasing the difficulty level.
DAV is just maximized for warrior players and people who like to bash barrels in, not any other class. Which is just shitty game design.
I suppose I should have seen it before. The rest of the companions you start with are all support characters. Two rogues and a mage. Your first companion you aquire is Bellara, also a rogue. Oops. Mage. Bellara is a mage. I forgor.
I dunno, I'm going to run this character until I get to the spot (when Harding receives her special ability) where I first wanted to rage quit as a rogue. But so far? I haven't died once. I'd gotten creamed numerous times as a rogue character by this spot in the game. I can go toe to fucking toe with a fucking ogre! And only have to heal once!
It's truly ridiculous. I'll test out mage after, if I can find the patience. It's reasonably unlikely that I'll actually decide to finish this run. Unless I do it for writing my fix it fic reasons . But I can kinda see more clearly why some people actually liked it. It's actually almost fun as a tank.
I did also say I'd never touch DAV again too, though, soooooo.
If you turn your brain completely off, don't give a shit about the Lore, and if the story is a back seat sort of thing for you as a gamer, this might actually be somewhat fun. It's not Dragon Age regardless, they screwed the pooch to sell the pups on that one. (I'm a Lore fiend, story and character first player. I legitimately don't give a shit about the fighting in RPGs. It's a back seat thing for me. As long as I can make it work, I'm good.)
SMDH
I said DAV was wickedly unbalanced in my review series, but I didn’t think it was so bad that they... just didn't bother to make it a fun game for rogue players. Despite them getting rid of half of what makes playing a rogue fun (sneaking, hiding in shadows, picking fucking locks, y'know, rogue stuff.) Not sure about mages yet. I do want to try one just out of pissed off, irritated curiosity, though.
Snorts. They made this game for warrior players. And I can't honestly find words to describe how shitty that is. It lacks most of the stuff that makes any RPG an actual RPG. It's maximized for warriors and people who like to destroy barrels. (Why. Why the fucking barrels?) Rogues are nothing but light skirmishers. I'll have to actually play a mage and see, but I've talked to people who said it's easy as a mage, too.
WTAF does BioWare have against rogue players to nerf the class so badly?
I'm honestly floored by how easy this game is as a warrior. I'll even test it out on max difficulty, (which is usually what I play at, max or one down).
But the shittiness of designing a game mostly for tank players can't be ignored. I changed nothing but the class. And I'm not far enough into the game yet for build to matter that much. I think I've gotten roughly 5 skill points to put into my character.
No wonder they denied game keys to honest reviewers.
#bioware critical#DATV critical#DAV critical#Dragon Age Veilguard Critical#Veilguard Critical#Game design#Bad Game Design#who the fuck thinks it a good idea to make an action RPG where it's only fun for warriors?#RPGs are supposed to be fun for every type of class player#I wasn't happy with DAV to start with and I'm even more pissed now#Not every gamer likes playing hack and slash especially in RPGs#Ugghhhhh this game is so badly designed it tempts me to use ableist language

stannarrator is an odd and confusing ship to me because i can enjoy it but only when it’s not framed as canon. that’s not to say i’m completely against the ship or that i haven’t consumed/made content of their canon selves in the past, but i’ve been doing some thinking and i feel like there’s a lot of pretty concerning aspects to their canon dynamic that are either downplayed or flat-out ignored by the fandom. (fandom mischaracterises characters for the sake of shipping, fork found in kitchen, i know, i know.)
i feel like people tend to reduce them to “toxic yaoi”, which… i mean, “toxic” is accurate, but i feel like the label is generally used to mean an enemies-to-lovers couple who fights often and usually has some kind of sadomasochism involved. this is what i generally see with fanon depictions of them - stanley is a cheeky little brat and the narrator is a cool sexy dom who like ties him up with the adventure line or something. i admit i was very much one of these people for a while. the thing is that they aren’t toxic in the sexy internet sense, their dynamic is genuinely unhealthy and harmful. there’s a massive power imbalance between them - which is very much exploited by the narrator - and while a power imbalance isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the key issue is that stanley is never seen to take the same enjoyment from it as the narrator does. if we take the narrator’s description of his emotions to be true, stanley is often pretty damn terrified by the things that happen to him, and if we take the description to be false, then the narrator still wants to cause suffering. he wants stanley to be afraid, to cower and beg for mercy, to do exactly what he asks of him, no matter what. in the ultra deluxe announcement, stanley runs from the narrator. he tries to be free of him, but there is no freedom to be found. he is trapped.
despite all this, we (the fandom) still like to have stanley be the silly, disobedient, sort-of-masochistic little critter, and i think the main issue is that we project ourselves so much onto him. we disobey the narrator, so naturally stanley must do the same. we play the countdown ending, think “goddamn he sounds hot” (which, i mean, i’m not going to argue with that) and decide that stanley must obviously feel the same way. there isn’t much to his personality in canon, so we decide that that makes him a blank-slate self-insert character, but that means that most stannarrator content ends up feeling more like player x narrator instead, with stanley being merely a vessel through which to enact our own desires.
there’s nothing necessarily wrong with characterising stanley this way, obviously. you can do what you want with him, and that’s the fun of it. it just annoys me when stanley acts as the player generally does, and it’s framed as if this is him, this is absolutely the canon version of his character, because the narrator says stanley makes those choices so obviously this is who he is! what this interpretation completely fails to consider is that, unlike with most video games, stanley and the player are two entirely separate entities. isn’t it so much more interesting to consider the implications of that, or to explore who stanley could be without the player’s influence?
this is why i really like AUs, because you’re awarded a degree of creative freedom that you don’t have when you’re working entirely off canon. want stanley to be a real person, with no one puppeteering him? go for it! make him a mischevious little fellow, because now it is actually him thinking and feeling for himself! you can even find workarounds or solutions for the more problematic elements of their dynamic, by putting them in scenarios where there is no power imbalance (coworker AUs for instance) or getting the narrator to actually acknowledge and rectify his own flaws and cruelty to stanley. the latter i particularly like (and it’s what i’m trying to achieve in my own fic), because it doesn’t deviate too far from canon but still allows for their relationship to get a little healthier. the thing with that though is that it takes Time, and i mean a Lot of time. and even when the narrator has improved as a person, it doesn’t really feel right for them to suddenly jump into a relationship. or even have a relationship. there’s a lot that goes into rebuilding a bond after that sort of treatment, and stanley has every right to not want anything to do with the narrator, whether romantically or at all. i do like the thought of them at least being friends after all that recovery (i’m a sucker for happy endings), but realistically there’s no reason stanley has to fall in love with the narrator.
anyway. yeah. once again, i don’t hate them as a pair, and i completely understand why people portray them the way they do, but it just… bugs me. dunno if this makes sense or if anyone feels the same way about this as i do, but here it is.
#there’s also the issue of the narrator being WAY too dependent on stanley for his own happiness#which i didn’t really cover here but i think that’s glorified way too much#tsp#they call me the yapper

what are your top 3 Ais traits
omg idk even know where to start -
There are so many things that I genuinely enjoy about his character it’s hard to narrow it down to just three traits but these are the ones that strongly resonate with me personally about him!
(in no particular order)
i. protective
I love how protective he is. Even from your first meeting with him, he seems concerned for your safety, by making sure you have a literal guide(Princess ilysm <3) take you back to the city so you’re not in danger + he escorts back to the Wet Wick himself after annihilating that roughneck that tried to hurt you.
Also I just love how he nearly killed that guy that tired to hurt us and in such a brutal way too. He really does wear a bleeding heart on his sleeve and wants to protect the people he sees as vulnerable and that trait makes me ❤️ him even more that I already do.
Hence why I see him getting overly attached to us because he sees us as someone without protection in a strange, treacherous city and wants to be the one to fill that role!
ii. whimsical lil’ fella
Ais is actually hilarious. I had such a fun time bantering with him cuz he has this deadpan type of humor that charmingly disarms you while he is also simultaneously sincere with you.
I replayed his mini-route so many times just kicking my feet and giggling cuz he’s so much fun to talk to and it makes me feel nice - like he’ll tease you but in a way where he wants to laugh WITH you, not at you.
Like his whole sparrow and dove nicknames for MC and Mhin respectively are lowkey funny cuz they’re so random and he just gives them to you and doesn’t explain why and so you now you have this confusing bird themed moniker that Ais gave you just because he could + his “I didn’t know sparrows could bite” comment is SO silly and nonsensical and he just doesn’t care lol
iii. sensitive
I also love Ais’s secret sensitivity. He hides behind a nonchalant, intimidating demeanor but he’s a genuine softie under his scary exterior. His fatal flaw is his poor control on his emotions, after all.
He knows he’s terrifying to most people, so the fact he appears self-conscious about how he comes off to you touches my heart. He literally keeps count of how many “bad impressions” he makes on you so he doesn’t scare you off + his “I was lonely” comment said so simply and honestly, shows how much he desires companionship despite this perception of him being this violent tough guy most people(that isn’t the main cast) runs away from
And this is maybe me overthinking but when he catches you staring at him and asks if you like what you see or if he needs more work, this could interpreted as him being playful, and it is, but with Ais, the things he says can have these double meanings. So what if he was asking you that because he felt self-conscious and genuinely wondered if you didn’t like how he looked and was hiding it behind a joke?
HE HAUNTS ME.

The Blatant Sexism and VA Harassment in The SAMS Fandom.
Not the first Ramble I fully wanted to make on this account, and I'm a little late to the party, but I feel this can no longer be held back as something to keep inside. I have been in the SAMS fandom now since Nexus was first born as New Moon, and in that year and a half since Moon first died I've seen this fandom take some of the lowest falls ever.
I would like to start this simply by saying to Kat (Earth's VA); that I am so sorry the fandom is treating you the way they are, and allow this message from me to at least somewhat help you know there are people in this fandom who respect you and the work you do for us. As an aspiring writer and voice actor myself, you and the rest of the crew are inspiring, and I'm sorry the fandom has thrown so much hate at you for no reason.
To everyone who has been harassing Kat or any other VA; You suck. Plain and simple. These VAs create, write, portray and produce free daily content for you, and you feel entitled to 'good' writing when none of them are professional writers who HAVE to give it to you. These are people with their own lives, and creators do not owe their audience anything, and they are in every right to take it away from us if they feel necessary.
I do have my own issues with the writing at times, but I can look at TSBS for what it is, a simple online show that will have its flaws, plotholes, mistakes, and 'bad' episodes. But it's a show I still love regardless, for the characters and their stories, not the overarching plot. No writing is perfect and the VAs are not professional writers, those who expect movie-quality writing in these shows are not seeing it for what it is
And finally, the blatant hatred towards the female characters in TSBS. Earth, Roxy, Nebula, Pollux, Puppet, Ballora, I've seen so much despisal for these characters for seemingly no reason, and I myself admit I enjoy most villains over them, but that is my own personal love for Villains and NOT a dislike for these characters. They are just as well written as others, flaws and all, as it makes them more human. I will mostly be touching on Earth as she is my biggest point of anger here.
Earth is ALLOWED to be selfish for once in her life, it is not something to demonize her for while you woobify Lunar, someone who has outright admitted he is selfish and by that logic should face the same hatred. Earth is a sweetheart who wants to see the good in people, even those others demonize, like Eclipse, but for some reason, she is despised when she finally wants to do something for herself.
Earth currently is living with chronic pain due to Lunar's rage and selfish (though justifiable) hatred towards Eclipse, and she currently is confused about whether she should forgive him or not, that's good writing, not something to hate her for. The female characters of TSBS are written to be realistic and more human, they are not your punching bags just because you don't like them for some reason.
If you demonize the female characters, yet woobify the villains and claim they can do not wrong, you suck. I admit once again, some of my favorite characters are the deplorable villains (Nexus, Ruin, BloodMoon, etc), but that does not mean I will say they did nothing, they are horrible people but I love them for it. And I love Earth, and the other female characters, for their flaws and the mistakes they make.
In short: Leave the VAs alone, creators owe you nothing, the female characters are flawed and that's okay, you are allowed to like villains despite their deplorable actions, and I hope for the sake of everyone working on these shows our fandom gets better. All of this coming from the perspective of an aspiring VA, Writer, and a woman. Do, Better.

Hard to Find was a teen dream come true for me though not in the usual way.

Though I very much enjoyed this I'm not sure if I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It's not going to be for some people. But for the ones who get it it will be perfect. For me this was the cdrama of my teen goth dreams (if I'd known what cdramas were way back then). And it did everything I needed it to do in that regard. But objectively I had issues with big chunks of the story, with great setups that were never used, and pieces that never quite came together in the end.

Right upfront I'll say story-wise and casting-wise this was really uneven. I don't think the female lead was quite on par with the male lead. He really carries most of this on the strength of his impeccable jawline. And I've seen him do scorching love scenes in other shows, but the female lead here can't quite meet the heat he brings. And initially I was a little concerned about every other cast member looking like they were 14 years old. But the core cast ended up doing a good job with what they were given and some of the characters turned out to be truly quite excellent.

The villain could have been stronger in the beginning (though his over the top scenery chewing really worked in the end). The romance was really quite sweet and decently done. There was a run of misunderstandings as the basis for plot conflict which isn't my fave but ultimately I think it was handled well here. And a love triangle that I actually truly enjoyed how it ended up being handled.

I generally prefer cohesive plots and well developed characters with true arcs in my stories. I'm not much for just vibes being enough, but in this case, the vibes alone are worth it. I was a goth teen way back in youth and if this had existed then I would have been insufferable about it. People would have shunned me because I wouldn't have talked about anything else. I'd have gone to dance clubs in Helian Xi cosplay, swanning around in goth robes and playing at brooding in the snow. The first part of this really has the vibes of The Crow (1994). Zhao Yiqin is absolutely perfect as the gloomy goth prince, Helian Xi. He broods like a champ and his jawline is sharp enough to cut through any plot issues. The first part of this really has the vibes of The Crow mostly because Helian Xi really being his best ancient Chinese Eric Draven. A lot of gloomy fairy prince vibes here too. And the choices for the sets make this atmospheric in a very fairy tale way.

As I said, this is not without flaws and not as good as other stuff I've seen from this team. But it's so beautifully shot, it's worth watching for the visuals alone. It is decently acted despite all the teens. The sound track is excellent. The costumes are just gorgeous. Though I do not love the hairstyling on the female lead. It's truly distracting in an otherwise dazzling show. And the eps are all like 18 minutes long, so it's nearly impossible not to just race through it, entranced by how beautiful it is. It goes so fast you might not even notice the shaky story issues. Alas the ending does go in for choosing to further the plot at the expense of being true to the characters they developed, which is too bad, but it does not ruin the overall dreamy brooding goth mood of the show. So yeah, I recommend it only if you want the full on melodramatic teen goth feeling of overwhelming love in a fantasy kingdom of brooding princes and can look past the plot hitches. Really it's so visually stunning I would watch it again just for that.

unhinged regulus (my fave)
hey hello i thought i'd quickly talk about regulus in my lotss fic... i feel like people are gonna have problems with him—so here's some musings/ramblings etc!
so i really enjoy the idea of exploring human nature, and to me this means a flawed character. in lotss regulus is not a good person. there's good in him, sure, but on the whole he's morally corrupt and has a detrimental fuck-it-we-ball attitude. he relishes in destruction and indulges in his volatility. like he persuaded sirius to literally bind them together with a potentially fatal and 100% illegal spell at ten fucking years old, because he was like whelp. i'm gonna miss you when you go to highschool. and he's manipulative as shit, because sirius was like oh yeah, horcruxes, solid plan, and then does it.
regulus joins the army, yes to protect sirius, yes so sirius doesn't have to, but he would've joined anyway. he LOVES the power it gives him. he finds murdering fun. genuinely fun. he likes to tease his victims, he likes to draw their death out, he thinks it's hilarious when they cry and beg. and sure, okay, these are unambiuously bad people, veela traffickers etc, reg doesn't feel this way when he's on the battlefield and it's basically soldiers just like him. but still, it does take a certain character to not only carry out, but relish in murder.
i took a lot of inspiration for his and General Riddle's relationship from Silko and Jinx (from Arcane). i thought that dynamic was the best ever, like here are two hurt, damaged, chaotic and morally deranged people. they enable each other, they care for each other (genuinely). i'm obsessed with Arcane so think about it way too much, but Silko's last words to Jinx "you're perfect" make me wanna scream. because to him she is. that's what a daughter is to a father—a true father. flawed and tainted and morally ugly, blood all over her hands—but she is still his daughter, he forgives her, he loves her. despite, because of, regardless.
anyway my whole point with this ramble—i feel like lots of marauders fics ive read ultimately try and either validate, justify or redeem a character's unjust actions or corrupt nature. that's totally valid obviously, but that's not what i've done in lotss. regulus never regrets his behaviour, even when it ends up costing him someone he really, really loves. even then he continues to do it, he continues to enjoy it. he never has any big revelation and goes fuck. i messed up.
and general riddle—we've seen him manipulate, coerce and trap nagini. so we're against him. but then we see him from regulus' pov—who admires and trusts him—and he seems like a nice guy. so then we're like okay, is he a dick or is he nice? but isn't everyone both sides of that coin?
i really tried to show that while, on the whole, he's an upstanding leader, fighting for good causes (and is non-discriminative: there's a vast and inclusive representation of genders and races in the death eater army, something which is notably absent from the ministry-affiliated order and bmaf) even then riddle's hungry for more power. he wants to experiment and test the limits of his magic. my whole moral of the story thing with lotss is that power corrupts. there is NO GOOD SIDE. i'll say it again: no one wins in war.
like that line in hotd, where alicent says wtf are we even fighting for anymore? and rhaenyra is like lol idk. i was reading about the vietnam war recently: america and australia sent all those men in, then realised they were being fucking decimated and were like, oh fuck, and pulled them out again. thousands dead. literally for fucking what. anyway, all that to say: i'm not trying to use a character (regulus) who is generally well-liked by the fandom in order to try and justify or advocate for violence. his behaviour is just me experimenting with another way trauma can play out, like don't forget the circumstances of his birth, or the fact that he had to watch sirius being abused. sirius' magic was tested by orion to the point where he almost died multiple times. it effected sirius one way, it effected regulus another.
anyway! it's a story loves, not meant to be serious xo as i said before, take it all with a pinch of salt. and if you happen to watch arcane, tell me so we can try about it together!
#okay so this is long but i feel it's sorta necessary#like regulus is problematic as shit#that guy is messed the fuck up#defs should NOT be allowed to carry about knives lol#anyway anyway#i'm happy to chat about it if you're iffy with him#marauders fic#lotss#marauders#fic update#marauders era#last of the summer sun#sirius black#james potter#lily evans#remus lupin#regulus black#lotss 🌞

So fsm really likes Kai, how does he feel about the other ninja, especially since Cole and Zane are a like Wu(especially Zane), also I’m curious does fsm have a favorite of the ninja(besides Lloyd of course)
The FSM: Of course I don't have a favourite, I love all Lloyds and non-Lloyds equally
Context: FSM only really starts to observe the Ninja when they show up to the Monastery, prior to that he just checks in every few years to make sure they're all still healthy. They meet properly in between seasons 5-6
He/they/she pronouns for FSM
Nyad has her memories
First of all it goes without saying that the FSM likes all the Ninja, he hand-picked them all for a reason. But I'll go into the specifics.
Jay: When Jay first showed up to the Monastery, he didn't have a lot of self confidence, and would try to hide it through jokes and just generally being loud. This wasn't a bad thing, FSM had had many times over the years where their self-confidence was pretty low, their main concern was that it would affect his training (and it did for a time) so they made sure to mention it to Wu so he could start working on it.
FSM really enjoys Jay's varying interests and liked that despite his lack of self esteem, he still tried everything he could. When Jay and FSM finally met in person they started having long (and I mean long) conversations about almost everything under the sun.
Overall all she finds Jay a very interesting person, and is proud to see how far he's come both as a ninja and a person in general.
Cole: He was the first person to arrive at the Monastery, and quite frankly, FSM was glad it was him. He was calm but lively and it was great to have him to be the one to introduce ninja training to the other's rather than just Morro (who was temporarily kicked out by FSM when Cole arrived).
It wasn't until Cole and Wu got closer that FSM started to see similarities. Both were generally disapproving impulsiveness but still impulsive themselves, caring and mostly calm people. Cole, at times, acts like a mini Wu, and she finds that very adorable.
Nya: The FSM wasn't entirely sure about Nya when she first arrived at the Monastery, mostly because he hadn't chosen her like he did the others. Don't get me wrong she still plays a vital role but it was less a part of the prophecy and more that Nyad saw that Kai was going to have a sister and took the opportunity to get a water elemental in the game as well. This meant that while FSM was mostly sure Nya was going to be a good match he didn't know a lot about her.
But he was pleasantly surprised by her. She was caring, confident, and determined, and reminded FSM of her namesake. When she became a ninja she fit well into the team. Of course he's aware that she has her flaws, they all do. But she learns to overcome them (eventually)
Lloyd: The favourite, the precious grandson. FSM absolutely adores Lloyd and would defend him at all costs. Lloyd, particularly when he was younger, reminded FSM a lot of herself, you know, causing problems and chaos while really just wanting a family.
FSM is very proud of how Lloyd stepped into his position as green ninja despite how difficult it was. Later when they actually met, FSM realises just how little Lloyd thinks of himself, and sets about to change that.
Kai: Unlike with Cole, it was immediately after seeing Kai and Garmadon next to each other that FSM realises how similar they are, and it amuses them to no end. Both are brash and argumentative, but when it comes down to it, they will always stick to their morals and do what is best for Ninjago. So yeah, FSM quite likes Kai, even if they think he needs some more character development when he first starts to train as a ninja.
Zane: Now this is very interesting, because when he was first writing the prophecy and foresaw Zane, he was very confused. Zane was the first of his kind after all, and while FSM had seen some stuff, he hadn't seen this. Nevertheless he still picked him as the EM of ice.
FSM actually relates to Zane a lot, not fitting in or understanding how other people work (autistic spinjitzu fam for the W) only to discover just how different you are (well, it's pretty obvious from the get go for FSM but same thing) and then learning to accept that.
And, as you mentioned he is also quite similar to Wu, both eccentric, calm and with a strong moral compass. So, if FSM had to pick one
Pixal: She was completely unexpected. FSM hadn't seen into the future past the Final Battle which meant they were completely blindsided when they first actually met by Zane having two souls in his body. After learning about Pixal they offer to create a new body for her but she declines, saying she would rather do it herself, which gained her the instant respect of FSM.
They only really start talking once she gains a new body but they hit it off immediately. FSM loves her attitude and ability to learn and accept new things.
Thank you so much for the ask! This one made me think a lot and was an opportunity to work out some more in-depth stuff for this au! If you have anymore questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Tsuki
tsuki bible under cut
Profile
First Name: Tsuki (月) Surname: Kotohi (縡烺) Gender: F Age: 17 Height: 182 cm (~6 ft) Birthday: November 1st Blood Type: B- Color: Persian Indigo (#32127a) A quiet but intense prisoner. Despite claiming indifference to the situation, she seems to be seeking your approval.
Voicelines
01: “Kotohi Tsuki... I'm seventeen, and I'm in high school... That's all.” 02: “A murderer... That's right. Some people must get their hands dirty for the betterment of the world...” 03: “I don't care about what you or anyone else thinks of what I did... I know that I'm in the right.” 04: “The right reasons, the right circumstances... Yes, such things are what we use to distinguish the forgivable from the filth. I don't dislike this place.” 05: “You're the warden here, so... You agree with me, don't you? Don't you?” ■■: “The world is better off... Without people like you...”
Personality
tsuki acts tough and like she doesn't care about anyone and anything, while constantly trying her hardest and caring deeply about everything. she wants approval from others more than anything, but believes she won't get it no matter what, so she acts indifferent and braces herself for rejection before it even happens. this leads to her coming off as an asshole (because she is one). she struggles a lot with social cues, and a lot of the time just doesn't know what to say so she doesn't say anything. her love language is being weird and saying nothing. she is, however, a great listener. and because of her aforementioned hunger for approval, the moment someone is nice to her she does a 180° into people pleaser so that she doesn't lose them. she's the world's biggest enabler if you're her friend. she will deem all those who upset you bad people, and we all know what she thinks of bad people (they should all die).
Ideology
tsuki has a very black-and-white view of morality; she believes that those who enjoy causing suffering are absolute evil, but at the same time believes that it's righteous to cause suffering to those people. she claims that she herself doesn't derive pleasure from it, and only does it because it's the right thing to do, because someone has to do it. in that sense, she deems herself selfless. all of that, though, is just how she justifies her own actions to herself. the truth is, she's an angry teenager who desperately wants to lash out at the world, but she thinks she should be better than that. she's created a lady justice persona to not have to admit that, just like the bullies she hates so much, she's arbitrarily choosing a group of people that is acceptable to oppress. tsuki dislikes herself; she doesn't think she has anything going for her. she can't act properly, she can't make friends, nobody seems to like her no matter what she does. that's why she wants to feel superior, to put herself on a moral high ground. if you were to take out her righteousness, all that would be left is an angry, pathetic girl. that's why she won't admit that she's deeply flawed. that's why she can't.
Story (+ Crime)
her family is composed of herself, her parents and her twin sister, asahi. they're middle class, but the parents are very emotionally neglectful due to focusing solely on their jobs, and so asahi turned to school peers to get affection/admiration. tsuki has undiagnosed autism which lead to her getting bullied and asahi used that to get in with the popular girls, telling them things about tsuki, some false some true, and making fun of her relentlessly. the bullying only got worse as they got older. even at home, the two of them barely talked, and when they did it was for the sake of their parents; truthfully, asahi never hated tsuki, and felt incredibly guilty for the way she treated her, but her desire for popularity was stronger. tsuki, though, absolutely despised asahi and everyone she associated with. on one night where their parents were out, asahi invited two of her closest friends and classmates over for a sleepover. tsuki spent most of the time hiding from them locked in her room, and late at night after it had gone quiet she ventured out and found them asleep in the living room. at this point she had been stewing for a while hearing them laugh and have fun while she was miserable so she was out of her mind angry and killed all three of them.
