[ENG SUB] Joker Out's album premiere reportage on Val 202 (14.11.2024)

On the 14th of November 2024 Joker Out presented their third studio album 'Souvenir Pop' for an early-listening party with Val 202's host Andrej Karoli and 50 chosen fans. In this reportage, fans share their favourite lines and first impressions about the new songs, while Joker Out say what touched them the most.

Fan: I think the first song I heard was 'Gola' on a random Spotify playlist. And I was like "Okay, it's some Slovenian band, I guess, okay" and then there was more Joker Out in the playlist, and more and more, and now we're here.

Fan: My favourite line is from 'Metulji' "Za roko te držim, a se ne dotikava".

Fan: I have a tattoo, so it's "kupim karto do vesolja, če zemlja pregori".

Fan:  Mine is maybe "Igra sovraštva je za vas, hvala lepa, ne računajte na nas" because it's, I feel like, a deep message in a pop song.

Fan:  I'm also very excited and... yeah, I'm looking forward to the new songs. The first experience of this sort, to be able to hang out with musicians, who are also known around the globe. So I'm very happy about this. I really like that we can have experiences like this within Slovenia, or opportunities, where it can happen. And yeah, I'm very excited.

From the release of their previous album, 'Demoni', 806 days have passed. After several months away touring abroad, they've now returned to their local audience with a new album 'Souvenir Pop'. Last night, approximately 50 of Joker Out's biggest fans heard the premiere of five songs from their album, with the most dedicated already knew the lyrics. Bojan Cvjetićanin:

Bojan: I really enjoyed watching how, with the songs that have a very unexpected plot twist, the plot twist looks on someone's face. That was actually my favourite part. I also saw a few tears, which was beautiful.

Jure: It was especially nice to see that people already knew the lyrics, and were already singing along to them.

Bojan: A few of them, A few of them, we have to tell you why, used a VPN and went to countries in a timezone...

Jure: That's it.

Bojan: where the album was already out, so we saw, a couple were singing all the lyrics and we were like "how come?"

Jure: "Where did they get them from?", “Were we hacked?”

Bojan: “Did we leak them?”

Reporter: Truly truly dedicated and resourceful fans.

Bojan: Yes, very. very, very, very, very. Always have been.

The album is a mixture of both languages and genres, and the first song was, despite the more serious theme, a favourite for some.

Andrej Karoli: I had the honour, and took the right to pick the order in which the new songs will be played. And before the first, I just want to say that all the band members said "Why?" The title is 'Sonce'.

Bojan: Yeah, 'Sonce' is a story where a son after his passing speaks to his mother back in the land of the living. It was directly inspired by the current situation in Palestine.

Fan: Yes, 'Sonce' is definitely a tear jerker, I know it was created because of the war in Palestine, I myself work with orphans from Ukraine, who came to us because of the war, and I really feel, like it embodies all these children's feelings, who are maybe two to three years old, and they've already lost their parents and had to move to a completely different country, and there's still a war raging in their home country.

Fan: I was really touched, maybe also because of the fact it was the first song played. And I was really like "Wow, this is really music!"

Reporter: In what way did it speak to you, what did you think of when you listened to it?

Fan: Maybe really about the situation that's going on, how it's unfair and nonsensical, in a way, and I'm very happy that Joker Out decided to speak out about it, put it into music and yeah...

Fan: Difficult, yeah, you can't, sorry...

Bojan: I think that our fans, people who listen to us, generally think in a very similar if not the same direction as we do, so I think it's not the target audience that wouldn't be emphathetic enough or that wouldn't be able to hear these messages in the way they were meant to. There's been plenty of sociocritical, plenty of calls for help written, from much more famous names than we are, with a lot more listeners, and we see where we are today. So... while I think that you should never give up, it's hard to get to those who aren't even willing to hear the message.

An evergrowing fanbase is a source of inspiration and motivation to the band for future creating, especially when the most honest, but unfortunately not always the brightest moments happen. Kris Guštin:

Kris: Right now I can think of maybe not one moment, but a few of these moments, where some listeners have come to say that we've helped them a lot during a very difficult time. I know that it was even said once or twice that they thought they wouldn't be here anymore if they hadn't found our music. So that stays with a person, I think. And... I find it nice everytime, it's really beautiful to hear that each time.

The language of love isn't just French, it's also Slovenian, English and Croatian, said Bojan Cvjetićanin at the presentation. The song that was most musically and lyrically exciting to the listeners is nostalgic, titled 'Muzika za decu'.

Andrej Karoli: And now, my almost favourite, all of us are someone's children. Joker Out, 'Souvenir Pop'. 'Muzika za decu'.

Fan: I literally only thought about Cvetka¹ and how I'll just be jumping and screaming there and yeah, I can't wait to finally be at their concert again, like I've already told them, Slovenia loves you loads and misses you.

Fan:  I feel like it's going to be a fan favourite.

Fan: I was listening to the lyrics, I tried to focus on every word, I feel like it's because they make fun of Joker Out as a boyband for children, with their nine year old fans and their mothers behind them, and they made the most rock'n'roll, hyped up, hardcore sounding song possible about how this is supposedly music for children. What a move. Genius.

The updated Aeryn (my Dark Urge) intro post! This freak 👇

Backstory/Key Points: Bhaal created Aeryn with the idea of a whole new race of pure waterbreathing bhaalspawn (pure because of githyanki asexual reproduction/egg laying) he used githyanki as a sort of “base” for their psionic abilities and rapid aging in their hatchling years. Aeryn is a slightly canon-divergent durge, he was supposed to mother this race who would take over the world, not take it over himself. He was found as an egg in a swamp by a drow scientist/scholar and his human wife, they raised him less out of the goodness of their hearts and more to see if a Githyanki could be normal (on that Society Of Brilliance grind) despite this they were very loving and made sure to drill empathy, humility and morals into him from a young age, to ensure he doesn’t follow in the footsteps of his brutal kin. (they had no idea how right they were, the sorry bastards) He blacked out, killed them and left home at age 10 because they tried to have the piano teacher who groomed him arrested.😬 he was taken in by a Warlock who introduced him to the world of crime, dark magic and hellian shit as he came into his Bhaalspawn self. eventually he became too much for the warlock to handle and he sold him to an entity that would eventually become his own patron. a few years later he was spat back out into Baldurs Gate and that’s when he met Sceleritas and joined the cult, at 21.

He works as a nurse and mercy killer, and clings on to his sanity for dear life by convincing himself he’s an angel who was sent to ease the world’s suffering by ending it, The Mercy Dagger. enter The Iron Fist, who comes along and uhhh basically just fucking breaks that boys brain over the span of 12-13 years. soulmates but make it platonic and a horror story, that’s the aeryn & gortash vibe. They’re two highly delusional people t fanning the flames of each others bullshit, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. One of Gortash’s main weird Things is a very sincere, very dangerous belief that Aeryn, born within a month of him being sold to Raphael, stole his heart that day. Somehow it’s the only way his insane brain can rationalise the fondness he feels for him. He is uhh. very weird about Aeryn’s heart. likes to press down on his pulse at random moments even in public just to make sure His Heart is healthy, and feel it speed up in anticipation. kinda turns him on. they’re really normal about each other i promise.

Extra info: uhh hes hypersexual and deeply genderweird and those things are kind of intertwined in a very fucked up way. he wears masks day to day pre tadpole to hide his githyanki (ish) features because they make him very conspicuous and some people straight up physically recoil at the sight of his face.

Nickname(s): Probably Crumb. 😭

Age: I think 22-25 maybe. She's childhood friends with Quina and Valmiro, and personally I can't see them being any older than 25-ish.

Race: Human.

Gender: I wanna say she identifies as a woman but tbh gender doesn't really matter much to her. Like she doesn't think about it. She'd have no problems if someone referred to her as anything other than a woman or used pronouns other than she/her.

Orientation: Asexual/Aromantic (like me😋). I can't imagine her (or really any of my OCs lol) in a romantic relationship or having sex or anything.

Moral Alignment: I think Neutral Good.

Class: She started as a Fighter and later became a Warrior. She just wants to swing a big sword around.

Background: Literally just the intro in DD1 💀 She's childhood friends with Quina and Valmiro, though her and Quina are practically sisters as Crom was raised by Adaro most of her life after her parents died in a brine-related accident. She doesn't remember them much. She took becoming the Arisen pretty well actually, if you ignore the fact that some of her neighbors died 💀 She was stoked to see a real life dragon until it sunk in (idk how she can see when her eyes are closed 24/7 but y'know... it's a fantasy game, pretend 😭).

Interests/Hobbies: Fishing (ofc, she's Cassardi), she's always liked sword fighting (I can imagine her and Valmiro as kids enthusiastically whacking eachother with wooden swords until they both were all bruised up and Quina had to heal them while lovingly chewing them out), and crafting things. Like whittling or making necklaces and crowns out of flowers that Quina found (to her annoyance, she collected those for a tonic).

Language(s): Common. Is that what it's called in Gransys? Grasian? Granslish?

Height: Probably around 5'10. The tallest in the village. 😭

Colors: Blue, Red, and Brown. Those would be her fave if you pretend that she can see...

Fruits: Idk.. I don't think she can choose either. She probably has a new favorite every other day.

Alchoholic Beverages: I don't think she drinks very often. She's definitely gotten wasted on Cloudwine with Mercedes once or twice though. (Also just a little headcanon, I like to think that Madeleine and Mountebank are friends, considering their shops are so close by, and now I'm imagining the three of them having a night on the town while Affie follows closely behind them to make sure they don't get into too much trouble. Fournival's probably there too but he'll deny it.)

Smokes: Again, not very often, but she has smoked greenwarish with Quina and Valmiro a couple times (you can't convince me they haven't smoke before, have you seen Quina's room? I get that she's a healer but...)

Drugs: I mean, if greenwarish counts.. But no, she doesn't do drugs. She needs to have a clear head for all that sword swinging. 🤣

Driver's (Oxcart) License: Definitely not. She falls asleep on the oxcarts way too fast.

Ever Been Arrested: Besides the Aelinore quest, no. She can be kinda reckless but she's not a troublemaker.

Nicknames: Affie is her nickname 😭 Her name is actually Afaenia but no one calls her that. (Affie and Crom's names are literally in-game monikers. For some reason I'm incapable of not using monikers as my characters actual names in DD.)

Age: About the same as Crom, 22-25. Physically. I guess if she was made by Crom she'd probably only be a couple months old. 👶

Race: Pawn. Lol. Crom has loved fantasy stories since she was a kid and has always wanted to see a real life elf, so she created Affie in the image of one (but now I'm wondering, do fantasy stories exist in fantasy worlds? What could possibly be fantasy to them? Modern day Earth? 😭)

Gender: Pawn. I'm kidding. I think like Crom she probably doesn't care much about gender. She's very fem presenting but if you referred to her in any other way she wouldn't really care.

Orientation: Asexual/Aromantic. I just can't see her in a romantic or sexual way lol. It makes me a bit uncomfortable personally.

Moral Alignment: Lawful Neutral? It was hard to pick. She really only answers to Crom. She doesn't think much for herself so you can be sure that she's not going be getting into any trouble (of her own free will lmao.) She is full of complaints though. 😭 I also kinda see her as a big sister figure to Crom despite being younger than her. Always looking out for her and having no problem chewing her out.

Class: She started as a Mage but later became a Sorcerer. Though I can see her switching back and forth depending on Crom's behavior. Like if Crom's been recently injured I can see Affie switching to Mage again to make sure she's ok in fights until she's got her full strength again.

Background: She doesn't really have one... She was made by Crom. If she had a life before Crom, she doesn't remember it.

Interests/Hobbies: I'm not quite sure honestly, but she's probably a throwblast dealer on the side. Something about explosives...

Language(s): Granslish (Common). If she were in DD2 I don't think she'd be able to speak elven. She's a fake. 😔

Height: I think about 5'7-ish. She's a bit shorter than Crom but not too short.

Colors: Purple and Orange.

Fruits: Grapes. I can't really see her enjoying a whole lot of fruits. Maybe? She likes bitter flavors.

Notes: i had created many different tavs prior to ardin but none stuck and never made it past the underdark. the first game i ever started was glitched as all hell and i didn’t get so many cutscenes, so i ditched it once i got to the underdark. i tried creating a few others but didn’t make it past recruiting everyone. i wound up deleting all those previous campaigns and starting new with ardin in hopes that it would work out. i wanted to do both the underdark and mountain pass bc i couldn’t decide which one to do and since then i’ve done both in every run following ardin’s that makes it that far. i wanted to do the mountain pass bc of that one astarion dialogue you can get with the lance and it was so worth it. i now trust that every run that at least makes it to the entrance to the shadowcursed lands will be completed.

ardin’s run was also the first time i used mods in the game. i wanted to try out the party limit begone mod bc i liked the idea of traveling with everyone. i downloaded it when i got to the underdark. i did my best to just stick with ardin plus four others but it didn’t last long. i got to the fight with Nere and got my ass kicked (on explorer mode, mind you) with 5 total party members so i added everyone to the party and was able to do a lot better. i believe it was from then on that i traveled with everyone.

i still missed a lot in that run (and two of the runs that i started while ardin’s was still going) but i will forever hold ardin close to me as she was the first run i ever completed and made a backstory for. once i got to act 3 with ardin, i think i created my second tav and then the same happened with my third tav. before creating anymore tavs, i wanted to try and finish the game so i went back to ardin’s and finished her game. i finished it at like 1am and damn near cried when it was over. i consider ardin as my first tav since she was the first one i saw through to the end.

sorry if this is odd to ask but what is your workout routine? I’m trying to motivate myself into exercise again and seeing how other people do it helps. Have a good one!

meant to reply to this sooner but I forgor… getting round 2 it now tho! disclaimer I dunno as much abt exercise science as I’d like to + don’t rly have any 'training' so my approach just comes from personal experience - take this w a pinch of salt lol. I’ll split it in 2 parts: my routine first + then a list of things that personally motivate me in a reblog in case u find any of that useful >:-) (under the readmore cuz this ended up being kind of long 👇)

ok so: I try to ‘actively’ work out 5 days a week. this tends to be broken into 1-2 longer full-body sessions (around 60-120 mins long, at the mo usually bouldering/parkour or a full-body home workout) with a rest day before/after + then 3-4 shorter home workouts (30-60 mins long, usually some form of weight/resistance training, targeting specific muscle groups). e.g. a fortnightly workout timetable might look smth like this for me:

I don’t tend to plan specific workouts more than a few days in advance so I don’t actually follow an explicit timetable like this. instead I set aside an ‘exercise timeslot’ every day (usually 4-6pm) and I’ll intuitively decide how to work out on the day – i.e., what part of my body feels ready to go? what part feels tired + needs a break? do I have the energy/focus to do 45 mins or do I need to shorten it to 30? do i need a rest day? working out regularly means I have a good sense of how long I need for certain muscles to recover so if there’s an activity I want to do on a specific day (like a sports club I wanna attend) I’ll keep it in mind and plan accordingly so I’m fresh for that. as a rule of thumb, I avoid working the same muscle group on consecutive days + give myself a full rest day before & after any intensive full-body workout. I also try to never take more than 3 back-to-back rest days unless I’m sick/on my period/life gets in the way – otherwise its very easy for me to fall out of routine even if I’ve maintained it for months beforehand (<- adhd ass)

(also worth noting – my ‘rest days’ aren’t completely ‘inactive’ – I’ll go for a walk or do some stretches/yoga or another gentle activity instead. I need a lot of physical movement in my life or I go stir crazy <- adhd ass strikes again)

my ‘home workouts’ are the sort of movements u can do at a gym with the equipment there, but I replicate them with a yoga mat + my own weights + a sturdy chair. I have 6kg & 10kg pairs of dumbbells, plus yoga blocks + resistance bands for extra challenge. most of my workouts are based on resistance/interval training, which is focused on increasing strength by repeating sets of movements/holds at a consistent intensity/pace for specific lengths of time, with short timed rest periods in-between (e.g., a typical workout might look like 45 mins of 45 movements targeting 1-2 muscle groups, each done for 40 seconds followed by a 20 second break before immediately moving onto the next).  I like it bc I can rly feel the progress I make + find it satisfyingly challenging (<-masochist) but also bc its easy to tailor to my own ability/how much energy I have that day etc by changing weights/pace. it also works with my adhd brain bc I only have to do each movement for 40-50 seconds at a time before moving on to smth else so I don’t get as easily distracted (as opposed to doing like xyz number of reps for xyz sets). if you’re interested, I swear by caroline girvan – I’ve done her EPIC programmes a few times now + often cherrypick from her videos when I want to work certain muscle groups without sitting down + compiling a list of individual exercises + setting a timer myself. the ‘EPIC beginner’ series is a great intro to her longer ones, I sometimes use that to ease myself back into working out if I haven’t for a while, but be warned it isn’t aimed at ppl who are completely new to that style of exercise. I think she has an app now that comes with an ‘absolute beginner’ version + a 14 day free trial(?) so might be worth checking that out. I will admit some of her stuff is TOUGH - I still can't do all of them w the same weights/pace she does... I particularly struggled with wrist strength when I started out too and had to do some separate conditioning/strengthening exercises before I could even work up to doing like. a single push up on my knees... so if u do check her out try not to get put off by how crazy strong she is bc thats literally her career skfjkj the important thing is just doing it to the best of ur own ability/to ur point of hypertension + keeping good form throughout!!

full body home workouts are pretty much more of the same just longer since I'm hitting more muscles (i.e. 60-90 mins) + sometimes with cardio elements (altho I can’t do HIIT workouts involving jumping at home bc I’m a respectful upstairs neighbour 😔). If I go to the bouldering gym (I try to go fortnightly atm) I’ll usually spend ~2 hours, focusing on trying to send one route at a time until my arms give out. im currently getting confident with V2 grades and tentatively working on V3s. its probs my fave sport, there's a level of problem solving to it that I find rly mentally stimulating... even tho I boulder solo, trips to the gym are social for me bc I often end up chatting to ppl working on nearby problems + picking up technique/advice from them, its a v welcoming space (I'm also planning on joining my new city's queer climbing group!). the parkour sessions I go to are also social, they're run locally for free around the city + structured by more experienced members in the community. they usually involve a warmup, conditioning, drills focusing on certain movements/jumps etc, and then free 'play' trying to put those moves into context. again ~2 hours long. im def not a pro at climbing or parkour but theyre super fun + would 100% rec if ur interested + can find a friendly local group for either, u can teach urself using online resources too :-)

goes without saying but I also warm up for at least 5 mins before doing ANYTHING!!! I try to cater it to the muscle group im planning on working with but still cover the whole body cuz its important to get ur heart rate up + even when u focus on one muscle group there will be others that get dragged in. I don't rly have a 'set' warmup but again caroline girvan has some good ones on her channel 👍 likewise always good to cool down after with stretches cuz future me will be grateful for it.. altho sometimes I'm a bit lazy abt it 🤭

🌎This world: I love the continued spacey theme with this! I wish they would make a full spacey album! This also has Dreamcatcher vibes! I could totally see Siyeon and Dami singing and rapping this! I think it's the slight musical and grand vibes!

"I'm ready for the dark, I'm ready for this worlololold!" It's so catchy! So epic but not exhaustingly epic!

And "Lies, control, rules

Numb, hatred, emptiness." Is so cool said in that robotic like, stiff, semi whisper!

🤠DJANGO: I love how the beat and rhythm when they sing Django! This could count as the album's ballad lol. But it really keeps the energy whilst preserving energy, and I'm speaking of this imagining a live show. Let's not get ~bratatata!

🏰BOUNCY: The rhythm doesn't change to drastically which perfectly matches "Slow it down, make it BOUNCY." And what can I say all ATEEZ title tracks are boops!

⏰Wake Up: Hongjoong fast rap is top tier! Ah he's so great! The end part with the chanting and Jongho's high note is so exciting!!!

"Hey, you can hear my voice I know it."

💰Outlaw: So mischievous! High note to change the beat is so cool! I can see a mini MV of the members doing their heist planning schemes and such! And I love the chorus!

This is one of the best ATEEZ albums and one of the best Kpop albums! The energy and theme is kept throughout without the usual breaks of either good or okay songs and one a basic ballad, which makes you want to listen to all songs! I love the anthem, chanting and epic musical theme throughout and the previous nods to their songs!

It's always cool when a group has such a strong music identity that you can recognise them in all their songs! It really shows the care and direction! This is common with producer idol groups such as ATEEZ, (G)I-DLE, SKZ etc.

And I love their vocals! They've always been good, but I feel their experience now has really allowed all members creativity to relax and shine brighter!

However I will say it doesn't completely flow between each track but usually albums have to completely add that smoothing process but it's close enough! I also do miss the intros little story but that's only minor as of course it needs to suit the theme too. Plus it not being there doesn't take away from it, and it's new era style.

Lastly for this album I focused the ranking more on replayability because they're all great.

🗒Notes: As usual I might add more later and there is probably some spelling and grammar mistakes.

🗒️Notes 2: The '/' do mildly set the rankings of each track higher than the next but they're all the same level. So all rank 1 songs are all rank 1 but the first one is slightly higher than the next in line if there is one. On that note a lower number song doesn't mean it's bad, after all I give an overall ranking at the end. It's a lot to do with how much I'll relisten to a song as well. So for example a lot of ballads are good but I rarely listen to them unless they are exceptional for my tastes.
