Anyway-

Honeymoon Malec HCs (don't come for me I haven't read all the books)

Magnus spends countless sleepless nights planning the perfect wedding

Despite his insistence that this stuff "doesn't matter that much" to him, Alec cannot help but participate. Frequently.

As per the many long, sometimes exhaustive conversations they have throughout the process, they wind up with some conglomeration of mixed cultural wedding between Warlock and Shadowhunter, with a few dashes of common Mundane aspects just because Magnus loves them

When they deed is done, they spend an hour fighting over who will get carried over the threshold

More specifically, they fight over who will do the carrying

Magnus wins and carries Alec under the logic that he's taller and therefore more equipped

Neither of them realize or mention that part being for after the honeymoon

I wish could say there's not a lot to be said about the actual honeymoon because they spent the whole time fucking about it, but Magnus was extremely insistent that they make it to every single attraction and tourist location he booked them for. It's a little bit infuriating for Alec, who had literally never been in a relationship before meeting Magnus, but it's too endearing to be seriously mad about it.

They definitely sent postcards home because Alec definitely gets homesick and Magnus definitely signs every one with some variation of "but everything is fine and we're literally thrilled none of you are here, kay byeeeee :)"

Magnus finds a little Downworlder club everywhere they go and this place is certainly no exception, so they spend at least a couple of nights drunk and a little over the top surrounded by people Alec has definitely never met before, but Magnus seems unexpectedly familiar with

Alec learns a lot about how much culture and social rules change in the Downworld depending on where you are in the physical world

He learns a lot about Magnus in general

They learn a lot about each other together

There's a very real possibility Alec gets too drunk and tries to "renew their vows" and Magnus has to remind him that they're literally on their honeymoon

When things do eventually conclude and they return to the real world, they create a little homage display of photos and memorabilia in the loft to always remember the amazing experiences they had

You’re probably sick of comments and questions from me today. But I had to say again how much I adore and keep returning to “Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming.” As I’m navigating and plotting my own way through the parabatai relationship and broken bonds and what it did/does/and could mean for Alec and Jace I just adore how you wrote it. How they had to face the grief, betrayal, and regret of it all but still somehow had love and the end of it.

And then the dichotomy of the toxic bond of Alec&Jace and the healthy bond between Malec.

And ultimately how Alec choosing himself always leads to Magnus.

I just woke up and your comments all gave me life.I adored every single one of them and will give each one a more in depth response when I’m slightly more awake, but I loved loved loved them - especially the notes and thoughts you left after each passage you quoted because yes! That was pretty much my train of thinking when I was writing them!

Showing their was love despite all of the betrayal and grief was exactly what I wanted to show with Swallowed up. Despite how toxic their dynamic can be, there is love and genuine care there. Neither knows how to show it, though, and with how parentified Alec is in the series and how much Jace is lauded as everything Alec should be (+ their less than stellar childhoods) - it’s not surprising their dynamic is the way it is.

Alec choosing himself always leads to Magnus, yes! For me, Alec didn’t struggle with him being gay - he struggled with how he wouldn’t be allowed to be while keeping without losing his position and putting his family at risk. He wasn’t allowed to be gay, not too scared to accept he was. Or that’s my personal HC of it.

Also, with the parabatai bond being lauded as being so powerful and important (and you know being some kind of soul bond), I have trouble believing that it breaking wouldn’t be painful and have consequences. (I also have trouble believing that what we saw in the show was the extent of what advantages such a bond hold but that’s another discussion).

Also ooooh I can’t wait to see what you come up with story-wise. If it’s even half as good as Contigencies it’s going to be great, so I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it!😁💜

This one gets an 8/10 for enjoyment – I’m having fun! – and actually a 7/10 for quality. Not NEARLY as many script issues and cringe factors as in the first ep lol. Thanks for reading. ^^

other deeply unexplored greek mythology au idea is hades and persephone, like.... hello? when magnus was stuck in edom and alec said he'd go and be there with him? that's the first thought that came to mind. like the angels intervene or something and they end up with the six months at a time deal or something. and it fucking sucks because Magnus doesnt fucking want to be in edom. its slightly more bearable when Alec is there, but still, he misses the people, the food, the world, his family. and edom is filled with terrible memories, he told asmodeus that being there again was his worst nightmare, so like. good amgst

and he hates that he's there, hates every second, has terrible nightmares with the worst memories from his abuse and childhood that wake him up in a fit of sweating and thrashing, hoarse from screaming, and when he wakes up and sees where he is? he wishes he was still in that dream

and Alec knows it, and hates it, because Magnus is there dealing with this alone for over half of the year, and he can't see the things that he loves anymore. Magnus was always so lively and intelligent and curious, he liked to travel the world, meet people, learn new languages, read about new cultures, invent things, study. the world was always Magnus' canvas, to be created as well as explored, possibilities and knowledge and he just loved it so much?? and now he's kept away from it all. and no one but Alec can even visit because it could disrupt the rift. he only gets to hear from Raphael, or Cat, or Madzie, through Alec. it's hell. i mean obviously but. it's even worse

meanwhile as soon as Alec sees himself back in the real world hes just. so angry. he's tried everything, even bargaining to take magnus' place, because magnus doesn't deserve to keep losing everything for Alec, he should be able to make a sacrifice too, Magnus shouldn't be forced to live in a nightmare like this...... and he doesn't sleep, doesn't eat, just throws himself into research on how the fuck to get Magnus out of there, to bring him back where he belongs, god damn it, because Magnus deserves the entire world at his fingertips, and the world deserves Magnus back, because without him it's like there's nothing

and when the day comes that Alec finally gets to go back to edom, when he can finally rest even if for a little bit, because even if he's getting nowhere there'll be something he can do for Magnus, keep him company, give him love, tell him everything he's missed and bring him presents and news from his friends and family, hold him, make his life a little better, protect him... he's so fucking relieved, and so is Magnus, and Magnus hates that he's relieved because he's just dragging Alec with him to his nightmare, what is wrong with him, is he so rotten that he thrives in bringing people down with him to this nightmare, does he want to take it from Alexander, who has his family and friends too, dull his light and hurt him, is he becoming like his fucking father-

except as soon as Alec gets there he runs to Magnus, desperately, barely able to breathe, and all but leaps on him, holding him so tight and smiling once he feels him in his arms, acting like its the first time he's breathed in months. and it feels so good, Magnus can barely handle it, because even if he's still in hell, at least he feels loved

besides, there's always that doubt at the back of his mind, telling him that maybe this time alexander won't come. maybe he's finally done with this, tired of wasting his life with Magnus, who has nothing to offer him but more and more broken pieces of himself. but he does come, and when he does, he looks like he's in heaven, not hell, simply because Magnus is there and he can finally be with him, take care of him. and it's not- it's not what Magnus wants, and it's not enough, because he's still trapped and hurt and bleeding inside, but when Alec hugs him for the first time, it feels like it

and the last day of Alec's in edom is always so. franctic and desperate, Alec not wanting to let him leave his side for a single second, holding him tight, handling him so gently Magnus feels like he'll break from the carefulness of his touch, and he says goodbye between kisses, holding magnus' face, promising him that he's gonna keep looking, that he's not going to give up, he's not, he's not, he promises, Magnus won't be there long, Alec will get him out, no matter what it takes, he promises- and then he's suddenly gone and everything is empty and Magnus chokes up and cries. and Alec, back on earth, screams and punches his punching bag until his knuckles are bleeding, in deep frustration and hurt and that feeling of being so useless, too useless to help Magnus, too useless to even be there with him, even though he promised, he promised his forever, and he promised he wouldn't let Magnus be hurt again

and Magnus stays in edom and cries and wakes up from the new nightmares instinctively reaching for his side, like he's gotten used to in the last few months, and then chokes up as he realizes that he's alone again, that he can't even have that semblance of comfort he used to for these few months, and this time it might be for real, because Alexander has to give up eventually, doesn't he?

so he moves on and tries to busy himself and keep the world safe, and, if possible, try to make edom at least a little better. he keeps his presents and hopes against hope that he'll see his family and friends again

until one day, he wakes up thrashing, not from nightmares, but from this weird dizziness and pain, like he's going to throw up, like he's been poisoned, and when he sits up, he feels himself be yanked back, and he blinks, and he's on his loft. and Alec is laughing and looking so relieved, izzy by his side holding his shoulders, and Madzie and Raphael both leap on him, smiling and crying at the same time, because they'd missed him so bad and god it's worked, Magnus is back, he's back and saved and edom is sealed and no one will ever have to be there again. and Cat also hugs him, and then izzy and finally Alec, laughing as he holds Magnus' face and kisses him so gently, and Magnus smiles through tears, and thanks them, for not giving up on him, for being there. and its so emotional and ddmdodm for the first few days raph and cat and madzie are all glued to magnus' side, catching up, telling and retelling the same stories Alec had told him a thousand times, but they all relish in it, telling them again and again until it starts to feel like Magnus was there. and the family is back together, and they're all okay, and that's all that matters

Magnus hates leaving his makeup on when he goes to sleep, he leaves it on cause he knows Alec secretly loves talking it off for Magnus after he falls asleep. He learned this cause one day Magnus had a long day of meetings. When he cake home it was late and he just fell asleep. When he woke up all his makeup was taken off. This happened a few times and every time his makeup was gone. One time he caught Alec in the act. Magnus pretended to be asleep while Alec being very gentle as to not wake him

It’s cool, anon. I didn’t need my heart. This is the softest, most canon thing ever. I mean, think of how Alec cleaned Magnus’ loft after it was covered in blood and filth. Alec knows from the start how much Magnus cares about how things look so his makeup would be no different.

He’s never had a boyfriend before. He’s had affairs and trysts and relationships that made him feel like something could be here. He’s had lovers and a very good friend in the nineteenth century with whom he shared an apartment with in a London hotel for four wonderful months.

After Camille had walked away that last time and Magnus had gathered the shattered, crumpled up pieces of his heart, he’d had a long string of people he’d tried to lose himself in. He’d drowned his heartache in whiskey and willing bodies and the twentieth century had seen him evolve into the High Warlock of Brooklyn, reigning over his city with both benevolence and an ironclad grip. 

There’d been dalliances and liaisons as he climbed to the top, though nothing serious enough to even contemplate the next stage, and Magnus had watched the mundane world grow more tolerant--though he has his doubts on accepting-- as men start holding hands in public and women share a kiss on the sidewalk. 

It wasn’t until Alec, though, that Magnus had found himself playing the role of boyfriend. It’s a delightfully young word. It makes Magnus miss the high school he never went to and the college he attended as a warlock two centuries into his eternity. Magnus has never had an aversion to pet names, to terms of endearment, and his partners had called him everything from sweetheart to their little petunia.

No one’s ever called him their boyfriend, though. It makes the blood rush through Magnus’s ears the first time someone calls Alec his boyfriend-- Catarina, rolling her eyes, while lamenting over how much Magnus was talking about Alec during their weekly lunch date.

When Alec tells Magnus that he wants him to attend the cabinet meeting-- but just as his boyfriend-- Magnus is barely breathing a sigh of relief before his lungs stop working for a split second.

It’s just a word and a new word at that-- until Alec, Magnus had no desire to be anyone’s boyfriend. It was juvenile, the word too wishy-washy for Magnus’s taste, for the way he tended to throw himself and his heart headlong into attachment. It conjured thoughts of quarterbacks giving their best girl their Letterman jacket and Magnus’s life seemed so far removed from that mundane picture that it was laughable.

But it’s different when Alec’s the one calling him his boyfriend or when it’s Alec that Magnus is referring to with that silly little moniker. Having a boyfriend is grounding, having everyone know that he’s with Alec using such a word is wonderful, freeing. There’s no subterfuge, no peering looks from someone wondering just how deep the attachment is between two men. 

Whenever Alec calls Magnus his boyfriend, in that delightfully low voice dripping with affection, Magnus shivers and barely manages to restrain himself from hauling Alec close and kissing him breathless. It makes something settle in Magnus, the knowledge that he’s linked with Alec in so explicitly.

It’s fitting, too. While Alec can make him feel every second of his half a millennia age, he also makes Magnus feel young and new and like the world might just have some surprises left in store for him, after all.

He loves Alec and while explaining their relationship as boyfriends can never capture the full depth of that feeling, of that commitment, Magnus finds that he doesn’t mind.

Because Alec is his first boyfriend and Magnus has started wondering-- idly, in the deepest pockets of his heart-- if maybe Alec won’t be his first husband too.

Okay but can we get a scene where Clary and Jace burst into the loft because they need Magnus’ help only to find him asleep with his head in Alec’s lap. And Alec is softly running his hands through Magnus’ hair and it’s fucking adorable. And Alec just glares at Clace and says “go away, he’s sleeping, find another way to fix your problem for once” because I want this with my entire soul
