Anyway-

Honeymoon Malec HCs (don't come for me I haven't read all the books)

Magnus spends countless sleepless nights planning the perfect wedding

Despite his insistence that this stuff "doesn't matter that much" to him, Alec cannot help but participate. Frequently.

As per the many long, sometimes exhaustive conversations they have throughout the process, they wind up with some conglomeration of mixed cultural wedding between Warlock and Shadowhunter, with a few dashes of common Mundane aspects just because Magnus loves them

When they deed is done, they spend an hour fighting over who will get carried over the threshold

More specifically, they fight over who will do the carrying

Magnus wins and carries Alec under the logic that he's taller and therefore more equipped

Neither of them realize or mention that part being for after the honeymoon

I wish could say there's not a lot to be said about the actual honeymoon because they spent the whole time fucking about it, but Magnus was extremely insistent that they make it to every single attraction and tourist location he booked them for. It's a little bit infuriating for Alec, who had literally never been in a relationship before meeting Magnus, but it's too endearing to be seriously mad about it.

They definitely sent postcards home because Alec definitely gets homesick and Magnus definitely signs every one with some variation of "but everything is fine and we're literally thrilled none of you are here, kay byeeeee :)"

The blimp is actually very fun except for the part where Magus almost crashes and the conductor they hired to help them has to manually take over

Magnus finds a little Downworlder club everywhere they go and this place is certainly no exception, so they spend at least a couple of nights drunk and a little over the top surrounded by people Alec has definitely never met before, but Magnus seems unexpectedly familiar with

Alec learns a lot about how much culture and social rules change in the Downworld depending on where you are in the physical world

He learns a lot about Magnus in general

They learn a lot about each other together

There's a very real possibility Alec gets too drunk and tries to "renew their vows" and Magnus has to remind him that they're literally on their honeymoon

When things do eventually conclude and they return to the real world, they create a little homage display of photos and memorabilia in the loft to always remember the amazing experiences they had

You’re probably sick of comments and questions from me today. But I had to say again how much I adore and keep returning to “Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming.” As I’m navigating and plotting my own way through the parabatai relationship and broken bonds and what it did/does/and could mean for Alec and Jace I just adore how you wrote it. How they had to face the grief, betrayal, and regret of it all but still somehow had love and the end of it.

And then the dichotomy of the toxic bond of Alec&Jace and the healthy bond between Malec.

And ultimately how Alec choosing himself always leads to Magnus.

I just woke up and your comments all gave me life.I adored every single one of them and will give each one a more in depth response when I’m slightly more awake, but I loved loved loved them - especially the notes and thoughts you left after each passage you quoted because yes! That was pretty much my train of thinking when I was writing them!

Showing their was love despite all of the betrayal and grief was exactly what I wanted to show with Swallowed up. Despite how toxic their dynamic can be, there is love and genuine care there. Neither knows how to show it, though, and with how parentified Alec is in the series and how much Jace is lauded as everything Alec should be (+ their less than stellar childhoods) - it’s not surprising their dynamic is the way it is.

Alec choosing himself always leads to Magnus, yes! For me, Alec didn’t struggle with him being gay - he struggled with how he wouldn’t be allowed to be while keeping without losing his position and putting his family at risk. He wasn’t allowed to be gay, not too scared to accept he was. Or that’s my personal HC of it.

Also, with the parabatai bond being lauded as being so powerful and important (and you know being some kind of soul bond), I have trouble believing that it breaking wouldn’t be painful and have consequences. (I also have trouble believing that what we saw in the show was the extent of what advantages such a bond hold but that’s another discussion).

Also ooooh I can’t wait to see what you come up with story-wise. If it’s even half as good as Contigencies it’s going to be great, so I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it!😁💜

ok so h/c headcanons... lemme see

whenever one of them feels low, its ‘relax in the bath’ time. they sit in the bath together and relax and maybe whatever is disturbing them is also discussed if they’re not just tired bc of all the nonsense

also, massages. this is basically canon. if one of them is tired, the other massages them. magnus depleted his magic? massages. alec’s tired from a day of paperwork? massages.

making sure the other eats? yes. also canon. these two are just in need of some fucking comfort tbh. they’re both always overworking and not taking care of themselves and the other knows so they make sure they’re eating and taking care of themselves. magnus staying in the apothecary working on some potion for hours? alec makes him eat something and take a break. alec staying late in the office doing sh stuff? magnus takes him outside to some restaurant so they can relax and eat.

sometimes they just need to be close to the other. for comfort. as a reminder that they’re here and not going anywhere. so they basically make the other lie on them like a human blanket. that solid weight on them is comforting ykwim? <3 

when magnus has a nightmare alec makes him lie on top of him and runs his hand through magnus' hair and magnus falls asleep like that. magnus deserves to have his hair played with <3

i dont have anymore hurt/comfort hcs so have some random soft ones

they can’t sleep well without each other. alec is a heavy sleeper but he will get up if he notices magnus isnt there. and magnus is a light sleeper so he wakes up the second alec gets up from bed anyway. 

they usually don’t get to sleep in but when they have a day off (they make sure they have days off together) they spend half the day in bed and then perhaps go to nyc to see all their fam or just relax together and have a date ofc <3

oh this hc is gonna be controversial, malec don’t have kids until a few decades of marriage. where the finale ends, they’re definitely not at the point in their life to have kids like its not going to happen. they’re so busy and they’ve recently gotten big positions of power, they have some world changing to do. plus they have all the time in the world, so why rush (no kids is also good but lbr they definitely want kids)

Okay look. There will never not be a day I am not thrilled about the fact that Magnus and Alec are married. I am so happy. And I love the Lightwood-Bane name as much as anyone...

But there's still something about the thought of them both with the last name Bane that draws me in.

Alec, who has built his entire life looking after his family, putting their needs above his own time and time again, giving up everything for them, choosing to take something for himself. Choosing to take a name to show he’s letting him be himself, his own person and letting himself be free. Taking the name of the man he loves when he never thought he'd be allowed that.

Magnus broaching that he doesn’t want to be a Lightwood. Magnus, who after centuries of prejudice and trauma, doesn't want to take the name of a long-living family of the race of his oppressors. That he can’t and without hesitation, Alec softly confessing that he wouldn’t mind being Alec Bane. That he'd want that.

Consider Magnus in tears because he, who no one has ever wanted, has his fiancé sitting across from him saying he wants to take Magnus' name. His mother and step father never wanted him. Because yes, he's had family, friends who have made themselves his but they were all downworlders and none of whom had ever wanted to take on his name. No one has ever chosen him like that. And here Alec is, eyes soft and adoring and fidgeting nervously. A Shadowhunter willing choosing to take the name of one of the most renowned warlocks in history.

Also Alec Bane and Magnus Bane just sound freaking badass if I'm being honest. I just. love how it sounds and they deserve every happiness and there's just something that makes my heart sing about Alec willingly choosing to take on Magnus' name over the Shadowhunter one and sassily correcting anyone who tries to address him as Lightwood because he is a Bane thank you very much

The thought of Alec choosing that, choosing Magnus, just makes my heart happier than I can express and I have many more feelings on this I will probably yell about in the future

Sorry but I have to dump my thoughts here to get on with my life, I can't stop thinking about Alec asking Magnus to hold him down with his magic in bed and Magnus being hesitant because the last - and only - time his magic went wild-ish in bed, the person started to fear him and Alec says he will never be scared of his magic and it turns sappy because that's all I ever want apparently. Feel free to interpret this as a prompt or just ramble about it or ignore it tbh, do whatever

I was gonna write this for the longest time but tbh I’m pretty out of the shadowhunters fandom so I’m just gonna post this like you offered and let everyone bask in this truly amazing concept. I highkey agree with you op. alec definitely has a magic kink and I actually think it’s pretty canon lol!! It would be super interesting to see the emotional shift in both alec and magnus– alec wide-eyed and guiless asking for what he wants and not thinking about magnus’s baggage, realizing he may have misstepped and explaining himself and why he wants it– because he trusts magnus and wants to feel surrounded by him and just, loves magnus’s magic in particular.

Magnus, freezing at the request as he remembers the last time someone asked that of him and how their reaction was anything but what he was hoping for or expecting, his mind blanking as such negative thoughts intrude on his private time with alec that’s always supposed to be happy and safe, blankly listening to alec’s explanations until his words pierce the fog of self disgust and bitterness and the gradual warming of magnus back to alec and his request.

the tentative way he might start slow with the magic, gauging alec’s reaction and finding himself both charmed and even more enamoured as his love is clearly in awe of magnus’s magic manifesting itself– his heart triple beating for a moment as he hears alec whisper, “it’s beautiful. you’re so beautiful” and while he’ll deny it always, he gets a little choked up at the implicit trust alec shows in him.

and then they have sex and really explore alec’s little magic kink and are very happy the rest of the night!!!

✿ - Sex headcanon

Here's the thing about parenthood: alone-time is often a luxury. Add to that the tiring responsibilities of Alec's consul-hood, and you don't have much room for sex. Every now and then, though, as often as it can be managed, Magnus recruits Izzy's help watching the kids for an afternoon/evening/night (the boys love their sleepovers with Aunt Izzy), and encourages Alec to take a break, to breathe, and to enjoy the night (which he does, unlike another Alexander I know lol yes this is a hamilton reference). They love their children more than anything, but those nights when they can have free reign of the apartment again, when they can have eachother on the couch, not worry about putting on clothes to make dinner, and then claim the kitchen as well, are some of the best nights.

Neither Magnus nor Alec had the most exemplary fathers, not by a long shot, and they've made a point to remind Max and Rafe--in words and actions--how loved they are, how they can go to their parents with anything, how they will always be safe in their parents arms. The little routines go a long way, they found. And even if Magnus or Alec has to work late and doesn't make it to dinner, they will always both be home at the end of the night to tuck the boys in, to read a bedtime story, or as they get older, to play a boardgame or sip hot chocolate and talk about their days.

Magnus -

It's hard to remember that Magnus had a happy childhood before the tragedy, and I think it might be hard for him too. I think it's why he always lives in cities now, to avoid the negative feelings anything resembling a farm might bring.. but there were good days. On one of his early birthdays, before his warlock mark fully developed, his step-dad took him fishing for the first time after the morning chores were done. Magnus wasn't the best, and could hardly get the hook to fly straight, let alone land where the fish would bite, but there in the shade with his step-dad encouraging him, watching the bugs skipping on the water, giggling whenever a splash made a fish jet away.. well it wasn't really about the fishing. (I have more about him coming home to his mom making a yummy dinner for the three of them but this is already too long lol)

Alec -

Being the only two kids in such a massive institute without much outside contact might seem lonely, but it was perfect for the imaginary games Izzy insisted they play, and even more perfect for hide and seek. There were endless hiding spots, and over the years, they only got harder and more elaborate. Once, when Izzy found Alec without him noticing, she snuck up from the other direction and scared the daylights out of him. It then became Alec's mission to get her back, and then Izzy's to get him back, and then it just became part of the game. Alec was always better, both at the sneaking up, and at the seeing Izzy creeping, though, and it frustrated Isabelle to no end.

Malec hc's:

Magnus, as we know, is the more romantic one. However, there are times when he isn't exactly the most graceful. Observe.

Magnus once stepped on one of the kids' toys, getting up after a particularly long night. It was a car with moving wheels. He slipped and Alec tried to catch him. Alec was also holding a kid. In a matter of minutes, both were in fits of giggles on the floor, and Rafe was snorting quietly on top of Alec. Max was delighted to have them all at his level, close to the ground, and was quick to gurgle in the face of his dad.

Once, he was in his PJ's and Alec was going for some Clave meeting or something, and he was awfully early, there was still an hour and a half for it to start. "Magnus how do you tie this?" Magnus entered the room, water in his hand to ease the hangover he had from a rather...risqué night with his lover, and walked in on Alec with an untied tie hanging loose around his neck, his shirt buttons open, adorning a stunning suit. Magnus ended up snorting the water out his nose. Half an hour later, the bed was rumpled, the water was forgotten, Alec's shirt came off entirely, and he ended up late for his meeting.

Magnus once fell off the couch when Rafe sneezed very loudly on top of him. He landed on top of Rafael. Rafael never forgave him.

Magnus once accidentally magicked a cocktail into Max's sippy cup instead of Alec's waiting glass, and the pair had to deal with a very loud, hyper, baby that occassionally turned into a bat. Clary and Izzy were shocked the next morning when they found the couple sprawled on the couch, Max snoring on top of one of them, and Rafe trying to balance coffee mugs on Magnus's face.

Once, Rafe tried to see how many books he could balance on his head without making them fall. He got to seven. Magnus walked in on him. He screamed. Rafael screamed too, cursing in very colourful language (not in English) and Magnus got so mad he grounded him, but was secretly proud of the height of the pile his son had managed to keep steady.

Simon and Alec are a pair of dorks and you can't change my mind.

Like.

They spend evenings polishing their bows and reading books, and Simon explains comics to Alec and Alec reads Naruto because Clary told him Max liked it. Simon and Alec talk about Naruto a lotttt.

And they both suck at buying presents so they go together and come up with the weirdest things for each person. It's become a competition, seeing who got the weirdest present from them. Funny thing is, even if the presents are weird they're always accurate.

And when Izzy gets pregnant Simon goes to Alec telling him how he grew up without a dad and how he doesn't know what kind of father he'll be, and Alec sits with Simon and tells him about parenting and how he wont mess up because he loves Izzy so much.

And when Alec with Magnus and he doesn't want to ask Jace because Jace's relationship is... unique, he calls Simon and they talk about messing up in relationships and how getting back in their partners' good graces.

Just, Simon and Alec becoming great friends and having a lot in common and turning to each other while Izzy and Magnus looks at them proudly and happily from the background.
