Every time I think about how much I adore Mankai Stage Act 2 Winter 2023, I inevitably think of this one CM that is so balls to the walls hilarious, especially if you have absolutely no context about a3! at all and know absolutely 0 Japanese
youtube
Like it starts off so normal with It Happened one Quiet Night but the camera slow pans to Teruma's (Guy) deadpan face during the number and????? Like what???? But then you also realize that no, it didn't start off normal at all because Maekawa (Tsuzuru) slid across the stage to get to his position?????? Kitazono (Tasuku) whose in the same position just walks there like normal but noooooooo Maekawa has to slide there bc he's extra like that. Also the spin that Maki (Tsumugi) does is cute. Very cute. I miss Maki
The tonal whiplash between Chikage announcing what Citron requested of him and True Feelings is also just??? What????? And the hilarity of having no idea why there's sad somber music while some dude is sitting on the floor hugging a bag of super marshmallows like it's his lifeline while the other guy is giving him absolutely no personal space at all is peak
The rest is pretty normal but the editors choosing to cut off the Mika introduction scene with Ryosei (Homare) laughing so awkwardly is such a choice that is so silly, it transcends language barriers. The decision to also specifically play the small song number where Chikage disses Itaru (Tateishi isn't even in this production he can't even defend himself poor dude) for coming along is just. Skkfgk I can't.
The editing decisions that had to happen for such a masterpiece to come out is just beautiful. I love Winter 2023 and this CM is my favourite of them all
#a3! act addict actors#mankai stage#no but Teruma's acting is really good loved the raw emotion in the hope he smiles a lot clip#its just that the editing choices in this cm specifically cracks us up so bad#maekawa is actually super funny and plays a fantastic tsuzuru i just sometimes question his actions which is peak tsuzuru tbh#and its jot like i dont like sadamoto's portrayal of tsumugi he does a great job at pulling out a more mature dependable vibe from tsumugi#i just think aramaki's version does a better job at remknding viwers that tsumugi is absolutely a little shit who will do things for the bi#anyways i love winter 2023 its probably one of my favourite mankai stage production#Youtube

A3! Outing Event Translation - Hortensia Dedicated to You (7/11)
*Please read disclaimer on blog; default name set as Izumi
---
Hirato: Thank you very much for coming all the way here. Are these fellows all here for…
Izumi: Yes, these 6 members will be performing in the stage for the commemorative event. We look forward to working together!
Troupe members: We look forward to working together.
Hirato: I'm Hirato. I’m in charge of the upcoming event. Likewise, I’m sure it'll turn out great together.
Itaru: I’m glad we could assemble the number we needed since Tasuku ended up caving and joining in the end.
Tasuku: Geez… not that I mind participating, but your methods were too pushy.
Izumi: Ahaha… But you’re really reliable, Tasuku-san. I’m glad you joined the team.
Hirato: Banri-san and Tsumugi-san, you two were a tremendous help during the previous France Fair. I’m delighted to have you two appearing again…!
Tsumugi: You took a lot of care of us as well.
Banri: Lookin’ forward to this time, too.
-pause-
Hirato: …And that’s all for the explanation for the collab stage with MANKAI Company. Do you have any further questions?
Izumi: Nope. We received a detailed proposal in advance, so I think we've got the gist for now.
Masumi: The PR regulations are simple too, so I don’t think there won't be any problems.
Banri: We’d also like you to show us the actual location we’re gonna be holdin’ the stage at…
Hirato: Of course. I shall guide you there after this.
Tsumugi: Please do.
Hirato: Alright. If that’s all, then let us head to the venue.
Itaru: …Masumi.
Masumi: Right. …Could I have another minute of your time? There is something I would like you to take a look at.
Hirato: Something you’d like me to look at?
Masumi: This proposal.
Hirato: “Special Silver/Golden Wedding Anniversary Demonstrations and How to use Them as PR”—. And this is…?
Masumi: Sorry. I know you didn’t ask for this. But—. The thing is, I happened to meet the husband of a couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary the other day. I asked him about his wedding memories and the promise he made with his wife for their golden anniversary. Because of that, I couldn’t stop thinking about the golden wedding anniversary project that was in the materials we received the other day… And I really wanted to see it come to life, so I created my own proposal. I apologize as I know these are my personal feelings. I fully understand the reason you explained to us before on why it was scrapped. Moreover—. I know the details are lacking, but could you please give me a moment of your time to explain this project?
Hirato: …I see you have prepared such a fine plan. Please, go ahead.
Masumi: Thank you very much.
Itaru: You got this, Masumi.
Izumi: You can do it.
Masumi: …Thanks.
-pause-
Masumi: —As you’ll see, the number of online searches suggest there’s a certain demand for this. Also, seeing as it’s rare for a bridal event to offer this sort of service, it’ll attract a lot of attention—. 25 or 50 long years of history and memories should be displayed dramatically for lots of people to see. Of course it will be important for married couples who are celebrating their silver and golden wedding anniversaries. But I think it will also be valuable to make couples who are yet to or will soon be married think—. "I want us to become a couple like this. I want to be able to hold a ceremony like this.”
Hirato: …I see. This is a very intriguing idea. Hmm, let me think about it…
Masumi: …
Hirato: While there are still some kinks to work out, I recognize that silver and golden wedding anniversaries have more value than I originally thought. The plan might have lacked refinement due to time constraints, but I'll employ more effort so it can be implemented.
Masumi: …I appreciate it.
Itaru: That’s great, Masumi.
Izumi: (I’m glad it looks like Masumi-kun’s presentation resonated with Hirato-san’s heart…!) (Itaru-san also provided his support. As expected from an employee of a top-class trading company!) (…Although, I was surprised at the huge number of games that were prepared as reference materials. But I suppose that’s also Itaru-san for you.)
-pause-
Hirato: The venue’s chapel is just past this courtyard.
Muku: Wow, there’s so many hydrangeas…! It’s even more romantic than what you see in the drama!
Tasuku: Lights are strung up. Does that mean this place will be lit up at night?
Tsumugi: I’m sure it will look even prettier in the nighttime.
Banri: Ah, right. Kazunari kept tellin’ me to take pics. I guess I’ll take some on our way back.
Masumi: —. (That person over there…) (He’s peering through the hydrangeas. Is he looking for something?) … …Ah.
-pause-
Koshikawa: Oh my? You’re that boy from the other day… What a coincidence.
Masumi: I have some business here. …Are you looking for something?
Koshikawa: Ah, no… there was a frog here in the past. I remember my wife was so shocked that she almost fell over.
Masumi: Hold on… is this the spot in your wedding photo?
Koshikawa: Indeed, it is. I felt like coming here after our conversation the other day. I heard the wedding hall had closed, but when I looked into it, I was surprised to find out it had renovated and reopened. …The garden has become quite stylish, but these hydrangeas haven’t changed at all.
Masumi: You should have brought your wife with you if you came all the way here. Is even doing that embarrassing?
Koshikawaa: Ahaha…
Masumi: …They’re actually going to hold a bridal event to celebrate this hotel’s first anniversary. I’m going to be performing as an actor in the stage for that event.
Koshikawa: Oh, you were an actor? No wonder you have such a beautiful face.
Masumi: If you can, I’d like you and your wife to come watch. It’ll be easy to invite her with that kind of reason, right?
Koshikawa: Well, I—.
Masumi: Even if you can't hold the ceremony as you promised, I'm sure your wife will be happy if she sees these hydrangeas. Isn’t that right?
Koshikawa: …Thank you. We will definitely come then.
Masumi: Great.
Itaru: Masumi, we’re gonna leave you behind.
Masumi: I’m coming. See you then. Ah. There are flyers about the event in the lobby, so feel free to take some.
Koshikawa: I will. Good luck.
*Masumi walks away*
Koshikawa: …*Sigh*. Now I’ve done it.

The Spring Troupe's love languages
Okay, so while he’s not a part of the current Spring Troupe, I couldn’t resist including Yuzo in this list. Part of it is, of course, that he’s the former Spring Troupe member that we see the most of and the other is just that I enjoy loving up this old man as much as I can. I find him adorable in a way. So, I spent a great amount of time thinking about it and I really do think that, in giving love, Yuzo’s major love language is acts of service. I’m basing this off what we see in Yuzo’s canon personality – he’s always there for Mankai, doing the things he can do to help and support them. I’m quite sure that, in some ways, it does make his life much busier and interferes with his schedule and takes up his free time but, because he still holds a lot of love for Mankai, he happily does it. I think the same is going to work in any romantic relationship that Yuzo gets in or already has in canon. He’s very much an action over words type of guy when it comes to his personal life and his relationships with other people. To him, what people do matters more than what they say; words are cheap and easy, but actions don’t lie. So, it makes sense that, when he’s showing his care for other people, his love for them, he does so with his actions. They’re often subtle actions…Yuzo is the type of lover who always shows up for his partner. He takes on half the workload in the house, even when he’s insanely busy with his own theatre troupe and with helping Mankai. He remembers to text on his way home to see if they need him to stop and pick up anything before he gets home. He makes them coffee and keeps them company on nights when they have a big project due for work or a big meeting coming up. He listens to them practice their speeches for meetings and such, gives them tips and techniques to help improve. He schedules date nights for him and his partner, remembers to water the plants or put on the coffee pot for them first thing in the morning, since he’s almost always up before his partner. It’s all small things, but those small things add up quickly in making his partner feel taken care of and loved. However, when it comes to how Yuzo prefers to have his partner express their love for him, he doesn’t really feel like he has too many solid preferences. He ends up falling in love with his partner for who they are, after all, and however his partner feels most comfortable expressing their love for him will be plenty okay for him.
When it comes to love affairs, the question of how Masumi will show his love is pretty easy to answer. It’s going to be however he needs to. It sounds like a cheap answer, a cheating answer but it’s the answer I believe in the most. Masumi isn’t well-versed in romance and because of this, and because he falls so incredibly hard so incredibly quickly, he’s really willing to keep trying any and everything he can think of to show how much he cares for the other person. He’s studying each and every one of their reactions to everything he does. Anything that draws a smile out of them, even just the tiniest one, is something Masumi will keep repeating. His love interest seems to blush or smile when he compliments them or says loving words? There won’t be a day that goes by that Masumi won’t shower them with compliments. His love interest gushes over a small gift he’s gotten them? He’s going to continue to surprise them with more gifts whenever possible. His love interest says how comforting it is to spend time with him and how much they look forward to it? Masumi is skipping school or leaving himself short on sleep or spare time to make sure he’s spending every available second he can with his love interest. His love interest expresses their appreciation of him taking care of the little things for them? Masumi is doing anything and everything, insisting his love interest just put their feet up and relax. It can actually get a little overwhelming for his love interest. When it comes to how Masumi best feels loved though, I do think it comes down to quality time and words of affirmation. Masumi thrives off genuine praise and acknowledgment and, when he loves someone, he wants to spend all his time with them and he wants to feel like they genuinely want to be around him all the time too.
For Tsuzuru, words come incredibly easy. It’s part of why I do think that words of affirmation is one of his primary love languages. He gives compliments to those he loves, genuine ones that are specific to them and make the recipient feel like Tsuzuru is paying attention and really noticing them. He tells his romantic partners that he loves them at least once a day. He leaves sweet good-morning texts and calls them every night before he goes to sleep, unless he's writing a script or doing a show, when he’ll resort to ‘sweet dream’ texts at night too. However, because of how he was raised and his role inside his family, I do think Tsuzuru also shows quite a bit of his love through acts of service. He knows how much doing the simple things for others can really make their lives better and, when it comes to those he cares about, he really does just want to ensure they’re living their lives the best they can, the happiest they can.
When it comes to Itaru, he quite clearly has a preferred love language when it comes to how others express their love for him. He’s going to feel the most loved and appreciated with a partner who shows their affection through gift-giving. They don’t have to even be expensive gifts…a partner who buys him lunch or takes him out to eat, who grabs him a cheap keychain of his favourite video game character, who picks him up even just a $20 card to use in his favourite video game? That’s going to hit so damn good for Itaru, who will be just as appreciative and ecstatic about those small gifts as he would be if his partner went out and bought him a new gaming console or a new and expensive game he’s been waiting to come out. When it comes to expressing his affection and love for those around him though, Itaru is awkward and unsure as to how to do that. He hasn’t had a lot of close relationships, especially of the romantic variety, and has some trust issues towards people that have kept him from really expressing how much others mean towards him. He’s not sure the best way to show he cares and fumbles through variations of all of the love languages, trying to figure out how best to show that he likes this person. I think that, though he doesn’t really know how to properly show it, he does show his love and care the most through quality time. Letting people close, seeking out their company, trying to form some sort of friendship or relationship with them? That’s big ways of recognizing that Itaru truly cares about someone else.
Citron expresses his love for others through a mixture of two of the main love languages, both words of affirmation and physical affection. This can, unfortunately, not translate well at times, especially when it comes to the words of affirmation. While Citron is a charmer, he functions much better in his native tongue. In his native tongue, he always knows the right thing to say. His words flow honeyed off his tongue, flattering his partner, expressing how much he loves them, wants them, worships them. But in Japanese or another foreign language? Those words of affirmation and affection don’t always come out the best. Citron will say something, meaning only the best, meaning to show his love for his partner, and will accidentally insult them because he’s remembered a word wrong or said a similar sounding word that means something completely different. Thankfully, anyone who has dated Citron for long enough to actually get into a relationship with him will quickly learn that he doesn’t mean anything bad and that he’s just not that talented in this foreign tongue yet. I do think that, as a person, Citron is someone who is quite physically affectionate. He doesn’t really have a well-developed concept of personal space, either for his own use or especially of other people’s personal space. Because he feels loved through acts of physical affection, it only makes sense in his mind that others would love having those shown to them as well. He’ll get into his partner’s personal space, will hug them often (from behind, picking them up and spinning them around in big bear hugs, pulling them into side hugs as they pass each other), will ruffle their hair playfully. He’s quite the gentleman too, so he does the grand romantic physical gestures – kisses on the hand while courting, brushing hair back from his partner’s face, cupping their face while he just looks at them because he’s just so happy and they’re just so beautiful. He’ll, after he and his partner have come back from a long date night, get down on his knees and remove his partner’s shoes for them, placing kisses on the tops of their feet or along exposed shins. He loves getting and giving massages – to him, it’s something very intimate and something shared only between people who are quite close to each other, who trust each other enough to be vulnerable with each other. Bathing together, just soaking together in the warm water, feeling the skin-to-skin contact in the bath, not wanting anything more than that, is another form of showing love and getting love when it comes to Citron.
I think that Sakuya’s love language doesn’t really fit neatly into one of the five major love languages. It’s rather a mix of them in some ways. Mainly, I do think that the way that Sakuya shows his love is through admiration, adoration, and forgiveness. I know that sounds weird but please hear me out as I try to explain. When it comes to the few romantic partners Sakuya will take over his life, he really falls hard for them. To him, his partner is the most amazing person in the world. He admires them, almost puts them up on a pedestal. It’s very hard for him to see anything but the best in them. He makes it clear, both to them and to everyone around them, that Sakuya thinks the world all but revolves around this amazing, intelligent, super-cool person he’s involved with. Don’t get me wrong – Sakuya continues to have his own life and to pursue his passion for acting while in the relationship. He doesn’t fall into full on dependency on his partner. But his adoration for them is also incredibly obvious. Even when his partner gets into arguments with Sakuya, even when they make him upset or hurt his feelings, Sakuya doesn’t really see it as his partner being ‘bad’ or failing him in any way. He’s very quick to forgive all but the most serious of his partner’s sins. Even after breaking up with a romantic partner, Sakuya will still continue to be on a really good terms with them and even years later will consider his ex to be, fundamentally and always, a good person who is an amazing addition to anyone’s lives. When it comes to feeling the most loved, Sakuya does tend to fare best with partners who show their love through lots of quality time together.

Tsuzuru Minagi | [SSR] MANKAI Feature | Today’s Star: Merlin - Part 1

Tsuzuru: Haah…
Tsuzuru: (Just what am I gonna do…)
Tsuzuru: (My spin-off project…!)
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
*Flashback*
Tsuzuru: Huh!? What do you mean Merlin won for the spin-off project…!?
Izumi: Actually, we didn’t even put Merlin as an option on the survey, but he was still the most requested.
Izumi: I’m inclined to go ahead with doing Merlin if we can, but because of copyrights, we can’t do it just based on our own decision…
Tsuzuru: Well, it’s just not even realistic…
Citron: Even so, I think Merlin would be good! We must respect everyone’s feelings.
Izumi: Right… I’ll see what we can do about it.
*Flashback end*
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Tsuzuru: (--Tch, I spent so long just thinking about it that I’m already here.)
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Tsuzuru: (Guess I ended up leaving too early for my part-time job today because it’s my first time going there.)
Tsuzuru: (I’ll just go to a nearby café to kill some time.)
Tsuzuru: (Hm…? Over there, is that…)
Tsuzuru: Hey, Mizuno.
Mizuno: T-Tsuzuru-kun!?
Tsuzuru: Same as usual, huh. Are you in the middle of work right now, Mizuno?
Mizuno: Y-Yes, I am. I have a meeting with someone I’ve never met before, so I thought I’d give myself plenty of time to get there, but I ended up arriving too early.
Tsuzuru: Haha, same here.
Tsuzuru: Why don’t we kill some time at that café over there? If you want to, of--.
Mizuno: I’d love to!
Tonooka: …
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Tsuzuru: Anyway, what a coincidence for us to run into each other like this.
Mizuno: …
Tsuzuru: Mizuno? You good?
Mizuno: I may be… slightly not okay.
Tsuzuru: Jeez.
*Shop bell rings*
Tonooka: Mind if I sit next to you?
Tsuzuru: Ah, sure… wait, what!?
Mizuno: Is this an acquaintance of yours, Tsuzuru-kun?
Tsuzuru: No, well, I mean, we are acquainted, but…
Tonooka: My apologies. Here’s my business card.
Mizuno: Thank you so much. Tonooka-san, correct?
Mizuno: As for me… I’m Kaya Mizuno of MIZUNO Enterprises.
Tonooka: Pleased to meet you.
Tonooka: MIZUNO Enterprises… huh.
Tonooka: What kind of relationship do you two have?
Tsuzuru: I guess you could call us… childhood friends.
Mizuno: I-I’m just a fan of his…
Tsuzuru: You’re still saying that?
Tonooka: I see…
Tsuzuru: (I mean, I guess while he’s here… it couldn’t hurt to try asking him about it.)
Tsuzuru: Um… I actually have a quick question for you, Tonooka-san.
Tonooka: Oh, what kind of question?
Tsuzuru: Actually, right now, we’re talking about staging a spin-off story about Merlin for our fan-voted spin-off project.
Tsuzuru: But, we obviously can’t just do that by ourselves.
Tsuzuru: But if we got an okay from Hoshii-san, then…
Tonooka: …
Tonooka: I see… Hoshii seems to have been much more open to media mixes after the KniRoun stageplay.
Tonooka: If I talk with him, I might be able to work things out for you.
Tsuzuru: Huh, you mean…
Tonooka: However, if you’re going to do it, you have to take it seriously. And I’d be interested in seeing the spin-off as well.
Tsuzuru: Thank you…!
Tonooka: However, there is one other condition you must accept. If you have no problems with that, then I’ll begin the discussions.
Tsuzuru: That is…?
Tonooka: I’d like for the spin-off to be distributed through the cooperation of MIZUNO Enterprises. Do we have a deal?

A3! Spotlight Event Translation - Elite Trading Company Employees & Alumni & Seamstress Boys Edition (1/19)
━━━━━━━━━
PR
Kasumi: It's becoming like a tradition now.... Let's begin discussing the special feature for "Spotlight".
Kasumi: It might be work, but I always enjoy talking to the director like this.
Izumi: Ahaha, me too.
Izumi: Ah, please try these sweets if you'd like. They were given to me by Itaru-san and Chikage-san.

Kasumi: Woah, what cute packaging! Those two are stylish aren't they.
Izumi: It seems to have been given to them by their company. They wanted everyone to try some....
Kasumi: Well then, I'll bring some with me to the meeting. Thank you.
Izumi: Well then, what should we do for the next feature?
Kasumi: Well, that's what I'm thinking of, but I just can't seem to come up with any goof combinations.... hmmm....

Kasumi: So-sorry, I can hear my own stomach making noises.....
Kasumi: .....Since they're here, I'll have some sweets.
Izumi: Ahaha, go ahead, go ahead.

Kasumi: Thank you~. Mmmm~ they're delicious.....!
Izumi: (Fufu, Kasumi-san, your cheeks look like they're about to fall off.)
Kasumi: Come to think of it, Itaru-kun and Chikage-kun work at the same company.
Izumi: Yup. They're hard-working trading company employees.
Kasumi: I see. It's amazing to be able to be a businessman and actor at the same time.
Izumi: (He has a point, it's become normal now, but when you think about it, it really is amazing....)
Izumi: .....Ah
Izumi: In that case, how about making the theme "Dual Employment" this time?
Izumi: Mankai Company doesn't only have actors, but also many people who work other jobs, like Tsuzuru-kun who is a script writer and Yuki-kun who is a costume designer.
Kasumi: That's good, I like it! NICE IDEA!
Kasumi: With that, it just leaves the question of who to feature....
Izumi: (Come to think of it, amongst the part-timers, Itaru-san and Chikage-san, Tsuzuru-kun and Kazunari-kun had connections with each other before they even joined the troupe)
Izumi: (Yuki-kun, our costume designer, and Taichi-kun, his assistant, don't actually seem to notice it themselves, but they're actually childhood friends....)
Izumi: (....That should be right)
Izumi: .....So then, how about this combination?

Mankai March 2025 question 1!
Welcome to Mankai March’s second year running, and the official first anniversary of the event! We have an (almost)entirely new set of 31 questions to ask y’all every day, so let’s kick things off! We’ll start with something pretty simple, since it’s been a whole year and all: Do you do anything to celebrate your own A3!versary(or oshiversary)? When is it, and how many have you celebrated? And if you’re pretty new to the game and fanbase, how long have you been a fan?

The conflict between Bandai Myu and New Myu

I know that the Sera Myu fandom is small and very few people even know Sailor Moon in this part. Maybe it's because a lot of the musicals are quite old, some over 30 years old. But also because they have rarely been performed outside of Japan. Yes, there are exceptions like Petite Éstrangère, Nogi Myu 2019, Le Mouvement Final and of course The Super Live, which is not only performed in London but is also back in the USA and even got a whole tour. But if you know that Sera Myu exist and you have looked into them more closely, you will notice that there are several factions.
The largest faction is the one that stands behind the Bandai Myus. Then there is the faction that only likes the new ones, even though I haven't found anyone who is part of this faction yet. And then there is the faction that I belong to, namely those that like both.
It's questionable whether you should even compare the two, after all they are completely different things. And they have nothing to do with each other directly. We have whole people behind us, a different production company and a different style.
I say everything has its pros and cons. I mean, let's talk briefly about Bandai myu. The musicals are old and especially the first ones were not of particularly good production quality. The costumes and wigs were ugly. They also ran when the manga and anime were still running. Because of this, many characters are missing and sometimes the story is not fully thought through. The technical possibilities were also very limited but they tried to make the best of it. Sound and light effects, flying around on ropes, sparks or small fires for Mars or Mercury had soap bubbles.Another negative point, although nobody can really do anything about it, is that some of the musicals were not recorded at the time and are therefore now considered lost. But there's nothing we can do about that. Those who saw it back then are lucky because they saw something that is now lost media.
That all sounds very negative, but when it comes to creativity, Bandai Myu was not lacking. Coming up with an alternative ending is not easy, or inventing new characters or even mixing several seasons. But the pinnacle of creativity is without a doubt the musicals that not only have a few characters, but tell a completely original story. There are a few of them. I mean, between 1999 and 2001, only musicals were released that told their own story. In addition, the costumes improved and the missing characters were added. I also have to say that I like the music in the Bandai Myu better.
Now let's move on to New Myu. Why don't many people like it? I think it's because it's so different. A big difference is that Naoko Takeuchi has a say in New Myu but not in Bandai Myu.She has seen every Bandai Myu at least once, but she had no influence. That's why the newer musicals are more closely based on the manga. That has to do with the agreement that Naoko negotiated. Everything has to be done with her consent. I don't want to go into why here. But in short, a lot of things were done without her consent back then, and that ultimately made her so angry that she imposed a license ban in 2005/2006. The bans were only gradually lifted in 2010/2011. That's why you couldn't buy Sailor Moon during that time.
The production company is now Nelke Planning, which has been producing musicals and plays for 30 years, such as Prince of Tennis, Mankai, Black Butler and Attack on Titan. The costumes and wigs are much higher quality and, as already mentioned, the plot is based much more on the manga. What is a very big difference is that the cast consists only of women. The reason is that Naoko Takeuchi is a huge fan of the Takazuka Revue Theater, where all roles are played by women. She wanted that for the new Sailor Moon musical too. In that sense, the new musicals are Takazuka musicals. Some of the actresses are also former Takazuka. I won't list them all here, but the most famous are definitely Yuga Yamato. She played Tuxedo Mask from 2013 to 2017. And Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune Shun Shiotsuki and Sayaka Fujioka (2015 - 2017).
As I said, due to the stronger connection to the manga, there are almost no fictional characters anymore, with one exception: Baba from La Reconquista. There isn't really a new story either, apart from the musical to celebrate the 30th anniversary, which tells a little story of its own. But unfortunately not much was made of it. (I've already said something about my ranking). In the Nogizaka musical, some of the dialogue was taken directly from the manga.
Yes, there are exceptions like La Reconquista which does its own thing. Or the plot twist with Demand and Saphire in Petite Éstrangère. The backstory of Professor Tomoe. Amour Eternal is a mixture of all versions and Le Mouvement Final is a slightly reduced version of the stars arc as a musical. The Nogizaka musical is an short version of the manga as a musical. Kaguya-hime no Koibito is a musical adaptation of the film or rather the short story.
As far as the music goes, which is very important in a musical, it's difficult to say. Because music is something very personal. Even if you notice that most people prefer the music from the Bandai musicals. I do too, but that doesn't mean I want to say that the music in the New Myu isn't good. I think the songs are good, but there are also songs that I don't like so much. As I said, music is something personal. It's like with actors; many people like one but you don't, or the other way around.
Many people feel that the new actresses are cast based more on their looks than on their singing and acting skills. (I must say, though, that in the old musicals, especially in the First Stage, a lot of playback was used. Example Hiroko-Neptune was plagbacked in a fankasha on Kahoru-Neptune.)
I don't know where the hate against the newer musicals comes from. It's like with Sailor Moon Crystal. Many people don't understand what Crystal actually is. It's not a remake of the 90s anime. It's the remake of the MANGA as an anime. They wanted to adapt the manga as an anime the way Naoko wrote in her manga. Naoko didn't like a lot of things about the 90s anime. They wanted to make musicals that were more closely based on the manga. Well, the later Bandai Myu also stuck more closely to the manga but still did their own thing.
You could say it's a compromise. For each story arc there are at least two musicals (some story arcs don't have more than that...), one that does its own thing and has its own characters and story changes. And one that sticks very closely to the manga.
I think that New Myu is even trying to accommodate the old fans. Old traditions have been kept. Uranus & Neptune still don't have solo image songs, just a duet. Princess Kakyuu is played by an opera singer. The Setsuna is old joke has been taken to the extreme. I don't know if you can say this, but the massive Japanese humor has been toned down a bit. Yes, it's still there, but not as extreme; perhaps they wanted to accommodate foreign fans. The Nogizaka musical was the first to use songs from the Bandai musicals, albeit only in the live show, but still. Solar Miracle Up even made it into the 30th anniversary musical during the plot. Another one made it into the live show at the end.
Nelke Planning even invited actresses from the Bandai Myus and Akiko Kosaka to the 30th anniversary musical. Which they didn't have to do. Unfortunately, the guests didn't have a talk show like the others. But maybe they thought many viewers wouldn't know them. I don't know if it was known in advance which guests were invited, but many Bandai Myu fans may have gone to one of the two performances where the Bandai Myu guests were present.
You can tell that I like both and that I see advantages and disadvantages in both. You could also say that the newer musicals are better suited to beginners because they are more based on the manga if you have read the manga. Lots of people criticize Crystal because it is so different to the 90s anime but have never read the manga... and then they don't like it even though the manga is the template and without it the anime wouldn't exist at all. The 90s anime doesn't have much to do with the manga, that's a fact and a lot of things aren't implemented as well, but Crystal also has its weaknesses. Every Sailor Moon version has its advantages and disadvantages, whether it's the manga, the two anime adaptations, the live action series, or the over 30 musicals. You should form your own opinion and then decide, regardless of whether your opinion is perhaps unpopular. I mean, I have the unpopular opinion that Team Moon 2018 by Nogizaka is the best version. On recommendation, I first looked at Team Star because many people think it is the best version, and then Team Moon. Then also Team 2019, which is not as popular. I decided that I like Team Moon the best.

A3! Main Story: Part 4 - Act 14: DREAM CATCHER - Episode 13: Because We're With Our Friends

Ibuki: << The hamburg steak, pancakes and fries are for over here. Thank youuu. >>
Ibuki: Woah~ I’m seriously grateful you’re getting me dinner just ‘cause I fought off that pickpocket.
Izumi: (They’re wolfing the food down at an amazingly fast pace…)
Ibuki: << Oh, I’d like another 5 servings of fries. >>
Ibuki: You guys want any?
Kumon: Oh, sure~
Misumi: I’ll eat the triangle fries~!
Ibuki: << Make that 7. >>
Izumi: 5 of those are for themself…
Yuki: They ordered the same amount a while ago and ate it all.
Kazunari: You really do eat well, Ibukichi~
Muku: “Really”?
Kumon: Ibukichi’s known for their big appetite. They also upload food challenge videos, and they all blow up.
Ibuki: Potatoes are seriously so good! Potatoes FTW!
Tenma: So, what are you doing in the US?
Ibuki: I came to see my Nee-chan who’s studying here. I learned English while at it, too.
Muku: So that’s why you can speak English so well.
Ibuki: If you wanna be world-famous, you gotta have a global reach, and knowing English is a must!
Yuki: Heeh… You thought this through.
Ibuki: Duh! Can’t go around wasting even a second of my life.
Ibuki: You only live once, and you’re the protag of your own life. That’s why I focus on making myself shine most.
Ibuki: I gotta go all out if I wanna make my dreams come true.
Kumon: How nice~ I’d be able to enjoy musicals even more if I knew English.
Kazunari: Have you seen any musicals or plays while staying here, Ibukichi?
Ibuki: Liike I saaiid, I’ve got no interest in acting.
Ibuki: Time is money nowadays, and you want me to pay real money just to sit there? No thanks.
Ibuki: You can 2x a movie or a drama, but you can’t do that with live theater~
Izumi: (I see, so that’s how the youth nowadays thinks.)
Tenma: Then how come you know MANKAI Company?
Ibuki: I know someone who’s obsessed with you.
Ibuki: I watched a performance that was being streamed for free a while back cause he rec'd it like crazy, but all the actors were unknown hags.
Ibuki: And I’m not really into historical stuff.
Yuki: Could’ve been the performance with first gen.
Izumi: I guess those performances were a bit more adult oriented.
Muku: But there are all sorts of plays, so you might eventually find something to your liking.
Kumon: You might also change your mind completely if you watch it in the theater instead of streaming it!
Ibuki: Hm~ Then, let’s turn the question around, what’s so good about theater?
Muku: Eh?
Kumon: When you ask it like that, it’s hard to sum it up in a few words…
Ibuki: When you work independently, you get to decide what to do and when you want to do it, and you can change your mind on the fly.
Ibuki: But you’ve got a script when acting, so you can’t change anything up, right? Ain’t that boring?
Ibuki: And having to get along with the others in the company sounds like a real hassle.
Tenma: It’s exactly because you’re not alone that you can create things you wouldn’t be able to create by yourself.
Kumon: Right, right! It’s like it takes you to places you’d never imagine!
Kazunari: It's super hype when you get into it~! I think that's a feeling you can't experience when you're by yourself.
Yuki: When I look back to when I was the only one who wore my self-designed outfits, I think my world was much smaller than it is now.
Misumi: Acting with everyone is the most fun!
Muku: Anything we can’t overcome by ourselves, we can overcome together, and then we can move on to the next challenges.
Tenma: Most importantly, I love the plays I put on together with these guys.
Kazunari: TenTen…!
Misumi: Me too~!
Kumon: I feel that way too!
Ibuki: Huuuh…?
Tenma: You’ll probably get what I mean when you make friends like this, too.
Ibuki: …

Episode 3: Reassuring Companions
Working w/ Maybelle Lace
Note: As you read, you will see that some sentences highlighted in a different color, this is what they indicate.
Pink: Flashback
Blue: Characters are acting
𑁍𑁍𑁍𑁍𑁍𑁍𑁍𑁍𑁍
Syu: You’re being quite thorough, making us come to a restaurant during afterhours. We could’ve just met in your office you know?
Reni: The office has been busy lately with discussions about plays and other things. Troupe members and writers often come in as well, so it’s not secure.
Syu: That’s pretty impressive.
Reni: Anyway, let’s organize all the information we’ve gathered.
Zen: Before that, you should fill your stomachs first.
Syu: Isn’t it past the orders cut-off time?
Zen: Today’s an exception.
….
Syu: Phew… Thanks for the food.
Reni: Sorry to make you do this so late.
Zen: I’ll just add it to the service charge.
Yuzo: Yo
Kasumi: Good work today.
Hiro: The heck? Only they get to eat?
Reni: Why are you all…
Syu: I called them.
Reni: What?
Kasumi: I was recording my show earlier today and Hiro came on as a guest.
Hiro: And as if the timing couldn’t be more perfect, I got a call from Yuzo.
Yuzo: Since you guys were going out to drink anyway, I thought I’d join in.
Syu: And I guess that’s when I had called. Anyway, it’s good that we all gathered here so quickly.
Yuzo: You guys were already here. Are we just extras or somethin’?
Reni: It’s a bit of an important discussion. I was going to tell you all when I got everything together.
Syu: Might as well talk about it to all of us at once, that way it’s less complicated, right?
Reni: Haa… I guess there’s no way around it.
Hiro: Is this important conversation about bringing Yukio back to Japan?
Reni: Yes. Given the nature of the other party, I had no choice but to move with caution.
Reni: During the second act-off between the God Troupe and Mankai Company, someone sent a copy of Tsuzuru Minagi’s script to Kusumi Ikaruga and encouraged him to plagiarize it.
Reni: Furthermore, that person had sent people to attack the members of Mankai Company as they headed to the God Theater the day of the act-off.
Zen: Those must’ve been the guys Banri and I fought against.
Reni: When I questioned Kusumi, he denied involvement with the latter incident, but confessed the name of the former’s perpetrator.
Reni: Moreover, it’s not the first time this person’s done something like this, as they’ve also had someone plagiarized Hakkaku Ikaruga, once before.
Hiro: No way, THAT plagiarism…?
Reni: Kashima knows about this.
Yuzo: It was his son, Kusumi, who plagiarized Hakkaku’s script.
Yuzo: Yukio decided to protect the theater company on the condition that he’d take full responsibility for the plagiarism and leave the theater world.
Yuzo: Its thanks to him that Mankai Company still exists and is eligible for the Fleur Award.
Hiro: I see… So, he did it to protect the company…
Yuzo: Yukio must have thought about Hakkaku's feelings of wanting to protect his son, Kusumi, so the truth of the plagiarism was never made public.
Zen: So who was the person who urged Kusumi to plagiarize on both occasions?
Yuzo: I’m not sure. Yukio didn’t elaborate on it.
Reni: … Keiju Amadate. He’s the head of the Hyakka Troupe, to which Kusumi was once a scriptwriter for.
Kasumi: The Hyakka Troupe?!
Yuzo: Isn’t he also a member of the Board of Directors?
Zen: So he would have the money and power to do something so bold…
Reni: At the time of the first plagiarism scandal, apparently it was Amadate who suggest Yukio to leave the theater world for the sake of Hakkaku and the theater company.
Reni: He promised that if Yukio did so, the truth about the plagiarism would never be exposed.
Hiro: It was more of a threat to stay silent and withdraw from the theater world than a promise.
Zen: Even though he’s the one who tempted Kusumi into doing this.
Kasumi: Kusumi was working for the Hyakka troupe, so why put the blame on Mankai Company…?
Reni: It was Amadate’s plan.
Reni: Mankai Company would’ve been put at a disadvantage had it been brought to light.
Yuzo: If we made one wrong move, it would’ve been Hakkaku being blamed for plagiarism instead of Kusumi.
Syu: Even if they were to go to court, it’d just cause tension between the parent and child, and Hakkaku would’ve had a rough time with that.
Zen: Did Hakkaku know about this?
Reni: Yes, but he didn’t know the details. The only thing he was aware of was that Kusumi had plagiarized.
Reni: Though, there’s a chance he vaguely knew that Tachibana took the blame for all of it.
Reni: Anyway, for some reason Amadate harbors strong animosity and hatred towards Yukio and the Mankai Company.
Hiro: So, they tried setting up this new scandal after the success of the first one.
Zen: However, this attempt is different than the first's.
Zen: If we weren’t careful, there's a chance that both Kusumi and the God Troupe would have been denounced.
Reni: I thought so too. If the God Theater was targeted, it would have been a hindrance as a Fleur Award nominated theater company.
Kasumi: But, the Hyakka Troupe doesn't have to resort to such tricks, they're good enough to win the Fleur Award on their own merit.
Hiro: Even so, at the end of the day, it's all up to the consensus of the Board of Directors that decides. It isn’t surprising that they’d try to nip any sort of competition in the bud.
Zen: Even if they’re only able to take down Mankai Company instead of the God Troupe, it’d still be more than enough for them.
Yuzo: Are the other members of the Board are unaware of this?
Reni: It’s no exaggeration to say that Amadate has almost complete control over the Board of Directors, even though he holds a mid-level position.
Syu: All the members of the Board of Directors have become watered down.
Yuzo: They ain't bad people, though.
Reni: That's how good Keiju Amadate is at gaining control over people's hearts. And there’s no doubt that he’s a man who will go through any means to an end.
Reni: Because of such a situation, I decided it was necessary to get inside the Board of Directors that Amadate was in control of.
Yuzo: Hey, it's not that easy to get inside...
Reni: Of course not.
Reni: But when I talked with the Chairman through a personal connection, it seems that he had been feeling uneasy about Amadate's movements for a long time.
Reni: After promising to side with the Chairman, I was added to the Board of Directors as a candidate on the Chairman's recommendation.
Reni: I need to grab Amadate by the tail and expose everything he's done up until now before he completely rots the Board of Directors council.
Kasumi: But if you become a board member, wouldn’t it be difficult for the God Troupe to be nominated?
Kasumi: The Hyakka Troupe is top class in Japan both in name and recognition, so if they don't get nominated, it'd be suspicious...
Hiro: Board members would be suspected of collusion if the nominated theater companies were related to them.
Syu: It's funny how the president of the Hyakka Theater is so sincere in this aspect, even though he’s so sinister.
Yuzo: You gonna be alright Reni?
Reni: What a foolish question. Just like Hyakka, my theater is recognized well enough that the public would think it strange if it wasn’t nominated.
Kasumi: So true~ .
Hiro: If you're prepared to do all of this, then I'll do my best to help.
Kasumi: I also have to pay back Yukio.
Zen: And we should also send Amadate our regards for all that he did to us.
Yuzo: So, what's your next move?
Syu: I'm trying to contact people within Hyakka Theater Company without being noticed by Amadate.
Syu: I’ll just be giving a progress report today.
Kasumi: How are things going Syu?!
Syu: Well… The more I investigated, the more I realized how tightly Amadate controls all the members in the theater.
Syu: But just when I thought I was out of luck, I received an anonymous email. –Look.
Syu: “Man was born for love and revolution. – K”
Kasumi: K reminds of Natsume Soseki’s novel, Kokoro.
Zen: The quote’s by Dazai Osamu though.
Syu: Based on the address, it looks like they from the Hyakka Troupe.
Syu: However, it’s possible that this is a trap set up by Amadate, so I’ve held off on replying.
Syu: But, sitting around doing nothing won’t help us. I can try reaching out to them if you want, Reiji.
Reni: Do as you’d like.
Yuzo: Syu, you called us over today to tell us something. Is there something else going on?
Syu: Right. I'm running out of information I can gather on my own through my contacts, so I’d like to ask you all for your help.
Hiro: In that case, I'll try to find for information in the entertainment industry from people that seem to have a close connection to Keiju Amadate.
Kasumi: Once we get enough material to corner Amadate, I can collaborate with Nadeshiko Publishing to get it published in their weekly magazine.
Zen: There’s a performer here at Gentiana who came from Hyakka, although he goes by a different stage now.
Zen: He doesn't talk about his past much, but I'll try to ask him about his time at Hyakka and get as much information as I can.
Yuzo: What should I do then?
Kasumi: You can come babysit my daughters. They like you because you play a good monster.
Yuzo: That has nothing to do with Yukio's case!
Syu: Then I’ll get props for Yuzo’s wonderful performance
Hiro: You could be my bodyguard with that face—
Yuzo: Again, that has nothing to do with Yukio!
Reni: (How reassuring it is, to have companions like this...)
Reni: (We need to get Yukio back as soon as possible. Everyone’s waiting for him.)

hiii icha. after like over a year, i've gone through another a3 event! various vows of love. honestly it was very nice to watch bc i'd just found a knot in my hair and was detangling it while watching the whole thing (im free now. cursing my hair for tangling so easily tho)
on to discussing the event! when it started by talking abt tenma starring in a romantic time travel drama i was like !!!! bc. wow. i spend a year away and get greeted with tenma <3 its like they knew just how to pull me back in lol. anyways tbh this kind of tv show sounds right up my alley bc i love a good time travel but i am unsure how this concept would play for me irl. like it would definitely be popular and tenma would definitely be good at it but i was sitting there like soo.... so... whats the female character doing here. is she a sexy lamp. yknow. but that's pitfalls of the industry.
anyways the setup was fun. tux modeling. this type of wedding stuff is. i'm sure people really loved the cards but its not like. entirely my thing which is fine! i did really love taichi telling tenma “we stan a hero!” when he said igawa could drive them. I love you a3 localization team....
okay teaming up with six other grooms with kidnapped wives for the finale is crazy though. suddenly i was like. oh okay i would watch this show. not for the moving drama but for the hilarity of this six groom situation. actually considering the later events with homare saving the day he must be tonally perfect for this kind of thing. when they mentioned six grooms i immediately went... "hm... tenma, banri, misumi, tsuzuru, homare, guy, omi… 1 + 6… I CAN COUNT."
as expected they ended up playing the six grooms! what i really liked during this part was just... the way everyone just takes charge. like homare offers to help and is somehow Around even though he was meant to be wandering, which just makes me feel so... everytime tenma calls him arisu i remember the valentine's magic event and it just makes my heart warm. homare really supports him here which is just nice. circling back. i really love that the moment he hears something is wrong, tenma starts discussing things with the assistant director, and that the moment homare offers, banri calls to check if they can push back the modeling time by a bit. my summer and autumn leaders... and then banri even follow up to meet with the staff in person during a filming break! seeing him have that sense of responsibility is just so great to see.
the homare improv when the glass shattered was so clutch, i'm glad they were able to save it... and its nice. I think like, if it was just tenma filming, i'm not sure he could've improv-ed his way through, but when its mankai... its possible because they support him. anyways homare's poem is totally getting cross stitched somewhere. i love that even though no one in mankai really gets them, its clear that homare's poems have a good amount of fans! and also like even if tsuzuru doesn't get it, its so clear they're both Writers, by the way homare rushes off to write poetry late and night and tsuzuru's like. Well. glass houses. it really is like that when the writing bug gets u.
as for the tux modeling... as said earlier its not very much my thing, but I did like all the proposals bc it felt very much a question of like. how do these men express love? which I think is a lovely thing to consider. and the cg of banri and homare was a total surprise! it’s sooo adorable and a side of banri we don't often get to see. homare MVP indeed!
!! WELCOME BACK WITH THE A3 READ!!!! Glad it helped you to detangle your knot though!
Tenma welcoming you back from time and space like hell yeah. he'd go back in time. For you. But yeah i doubt they thought about the writing of the female lead too much for this.
But yeah felt i know June is Wedding month so they do something about it every year but it's. Well. what it is. TAICHI'S LINE…. HE'S sO GOOD WE LOVE THE LOCALIZATION HERE.
DFKJDKLJDFKLDFJ YOU CAN COUNT INDEED. god you're reminding me of just how weird the event was, how lovely.
God yeah. Again also remembering that Tenma's whole fear was because he didn't have the support to get help during unexpected situation, and then now he has a whole support network, with his fellow leader (also a self reliant guy who learnt the magic of being there for others through theater) and Arisu (with whom Tenma had recently been bonding with) it's just so….. It's so nice to see how easy it is for them to get into this dynamic.
YEAH… YEAH… MANKAI IS LOVE MANKAI IS IMPROV. and you're so right abou Homare's poems. It's established many times that his poems have a lot of fans, even oversea, and i remember so vididly my english poem teacher saying he loved to read poems in languages he didn't understand because then the beauty of the language jumps out with its melody, not its meaning, and you find meaning in the melody, and i remember so vividly thinking "woah…… he'd be fan of Homare's poems…" so i believe in his popularity and in the way he weaves melody into its own meaning. Anyway it's neat to see him in full writer mode.
AND YEAAAH THE CG IS SO CUTE
THE LITTLE BLUSHES. JUST HOW MUCH FUN THEY'RE HAVING. just for that it's worth everything.
A bit of a fluff event before a serious event but it's still a blast to have those characters back.
Thank you as always for your thoughts about them <333 they're a delight

A3! Miyoshi Kazunari - Translation [SR] Bright Star of Blooming (1/2)
*Please read disclaimer on blog; default name set as Izumi
---
Izumi: …Hm? (It sounds pretty rowdy in the lounge…)
-pause-
Kazunari: Ah, Director-chan!
Izumi: What are all you guys doing?
Kumon: Summer troupe’s playing pictionary relay!*
Kazunari: We were just about to match the pictures with the answers, so come join us!
Izumi: What the hell, sure...
Kazunari: The whole chain started off with “ri”… And Mukkun was the one who drew it, right?
Muku: Yes! This is… a squirrel!
Misumi: That’s a good one, Muku~!
Tenma: You can tell at a glance.
Yuki: There’s no doubt about it.
Kumon: That’s Muku for you!
Kazunari: And next was Yukki.
Yuki: I drew… a watermelon.
Misumi: Wow~. It’s a watermelon~!
Izumi: You can totally tell.
Kumon: Yep! He nailed it!
Kazunari: Then next up was yours truly. I drew… a crab!
Muku: You can see Kazu-kun’s drawing skills at work!
Misumi: You’re amazing~!
Tenma: There’s no need to worry there.
Yuki: He’s on another level. That’s his day job though, so I guess that’s to be expected.
Kazunari: And so… Tenten, what do we have here?
Tenma: …A pacific herring.
Yuki: A what?
Kumon: Uh, I can vaguely tell it’s a fish from the outline, but…
Yuki: There’s no way anyone can tell exactly what type it is.
Izumi: Wait, hold on. The word chain will come to an end if you use that word…
Tenma: AH…!
Misumi: Stay strong, Tenma~!
Kazunari: Ahaha! There’s never a dull moment with Tenten~. This was a fun break from work~!
Muku: Come to think of it, the screening party for “Sky Gallery” is just around the corner.
Kazunari: Yep! This would make a great topic to chat about, wouldn't it?
Tenma: We don’t have to talk about this!
-pause-
Kazunari: It’s been a hot minute since we’ve worn these costumes. I am SO locked in~!
Muku: Fufu. It brings back memories already.
Izumi: All of you look great.
Kazunari: You know, you could wear these costumes out as regular outfits. Don’tcha think?
Yuki: They’ll get dirty, so you better not.
Kazunari: You’re not wrong. But I totes feel Aomi’s energy when I put this costume on!
Yuki: We may be wearing the costumes, but we’re not acting as the characters today.
Kazunari: I know, I know~. I, Kazunari Miyoshi, will do my very best to entertain the audience today!
Tenma: He’s not supposed to be in character, but it’s confusing when he acts so excited with his Aomi outfit on…
Izumi: Ahaha…
-pause-
Kazunari: Heya~! We’re the members who were selected from MANKAI Company’s Summer troupe ✰
Tenma: He sure went from 0 to 100 from the very start.
Yuki: Agreed.
Muku: I love it. That's just like Kazu-kun.
Kazunari: Exactamundo! I bet everyone’s still basking in the afterglow of the screening, but we’re gonna keep it moving forward with our same energy as usual!
Muku: Let’s go ahead with the talk show! Alright, shall we jump into answering the questions we’ve received from the audience members?
Tenma: Sounds good to me.
-pause-
Kazunari: …’Kay, onto the next question!
Muku: Let me see… it says, “please tell us a memorable story you have from the performance.”
Kazunari: Ooh boy, I’ve got tons~!
Tenma: Since we're here, I think you should talk about your memories from being the lead.
Kazunari: Mm~, it’s hard to choose from so many… But I guess I’d say the time all of us drew pictures of the sky left a big impression on me.
Muku: All of us in Summer troupe were on a digital detox, so we weren’t allowed to use our phones. That’s when we decided to hold a sketching contest.
Kazunari: Yep, exactly! Even though they were drawings of the same sky, everyone’s individuality popped out. It was super duper fun to look at~.
Yuki: By the way, are you still storing those drawings?
Kazunari: Of course I am! Okay, hear me out. At times like this, like a screening party—we should place them all out on display, one-by-one, at the MANKAI Theatre. Wouldn’t it be hella fun making it like an exhibition where everyone can come take a peek at them?
Yuki: That doesn’t sound half bad.
Muku: I agree!
Tenma: …
Muku: What’s the matter, Tenma-kun?
Tenma: No, it’s just… I drew that picture not thinking anyone else would see it.
Kazunari: Huh! Your sky drawing was a real work of art though!
Yuki: Well, that one was good… our pictionary relay? Not so much.
Tenma: Hey, Yuki—!
Kazunari: Ah, should we talk about that after all? Tenten’s sense when it comes to pictionary relay sure is interesting!
Muku: I’d love to play pictionary relay in front of the audience next time.
Yuki: It'd descend into chaos for sure.
Guest A: Summer troupe’s pictionary relay…!
Guest B: I wanna see it so bad!
Kazunari: Aw, look. The audience members are totes dying to see it!
Tenma: —I swear I’m not doing it!
---
*They’re playing “絵しりとり” (e shiritori). It's basically shiritori (word chain game), but with drawings. The game starts off with a Japanese syllable, i.e. “ri” in this case. The first person has to draw a picture of something that starts with “ri”. The next person has to draw something that starts with the last syllable of the item in the previous picture. And it goes on from there.
The chain here was: リス (risu: squirrel) > スイカ (suika: watermelon) > カニ (kani: crab) > ニシン (nishin: pacific herring).
In Japanese, no word starts with the syllable ん (“n”), so if anyone says or uses a word that ends in “n”, the game is over.
