We are incredibly excited and PROUD to announce that our VERY special manx kitten, Hemmed, has been adopted! This morning our dedicated and wonderful volunteer, Lisa A, set off with her daughter, Valerie, to Tennessee. Hemmed's adopter knows all about Manx Syndrome kitties since she recently lost hers. When she saw Hemmed online, she knew she just had to have her. We set up a Zoom video call so the adopter could see Hemmed and have a face to face conversation with her foster. She quickly confirmed her love for this little girl and asked "when can I get her?!". We're so lucky to have volunteers dedicated to our mission and ready to make these outcomes happen. Our family just got a little bigger, stronger, and even more loving thanks to Lisa, Valerie, and Hemmed's new mommy. Special shout out to Hemmed's foster for caring for her this past month. Putting diapers on kittens isn't the easiest task. Her dedication to making sure Hemmed had a comfy life outside the shelter while being treated for her urinary tract infection and cleaning up the mess created by life as an incontinent kitty, made all the difference. Kirby and Tails are Manx kitten siblings - two of five, two of the remaining three (two were euthanized due to severe #Manx defects that severely affected their quality of life). Kirby is a Rumpy Riser Manx (nub of a tail) and Tails is a Taily Manx (full tail - in fact, his tail is 13" long, whereas the average adult cat tail is 11" - talk about throwing shade in the face of Manx genetics!). Kirby's perma-expression is sleepy. 😻 Tail's perma-expression is I'M TRIPPING SO HARD AND BY THE WAY DID YOU SEE THE DRAGON IN THE KITCHEN?! 😹 But they're both super-sweet, healthy, and free of Manx defects (though Kirby has a hopping gait due to very long back legs - and this may cause arthritis down the line). Yesterday I posted about Blackie, a 6ish week old Manx kitten suffering from what is termed Manx Syndrome, and the kind decision to euthanize him (https://www.instagram.com/p/CdezNOdMyfP/). Today we had to do the same with his sister, Froakie (so-named because Manx Syndrome had hit her a little harder, making it so that with much-longer back legs, she literally had to hop like a frog in order to be mobile). Her genitals were difficult to differentiate from her anus, and during the exam the veterinarian discovered that she, too, had deformities much like her brother: no formed rectum or anus, simply a hole at the end of the large intestine, with the end of the vertebrae exposed inside of it. Froakie was completely incontinent in both bladder and bowel, which necessitated the use of a diaper and frequent cleanings; and also had an exposed spinal cord - a deadly and horribly painful death just waiting to happen, probably weeks if not days away. She was put to sleep around 6:30pm this evening. Rest in purrs, Froakie. You were loved, you were important, you will be missed, and we are happy knowing you're free of pain. Purr freely, little hoppy girl. * * * Kindly spay and neuter, adopt and don't shop, support rescues and rescuers, participate in TNR if you can, don't ever support breeders, and 🖤🖤🖤 LOVE YOUR PETS EXTRA HARD TONIGHT 🖤🖤🖤.
