And They Were Roommates 12
I am finally throwing y'all a bone lol
summary:Sirius invites you out to a party
CW: drinking, a kiss, not proofread
word count: 1.8k
You giggled as you bumped into Sirius, making your way into your home. He wobbled for a moment then regained his stability and giggled along with you.
Sirius had invited you and the boys out to a house party tonight. Sirius’s brother and his roommates, Barty and Evan, were throwing a small party to celebrate Barty’s birthday. Lily, Mary, and Marlene were all in attendance which made you feel loads better about the whole thing.
You were nervous to attend, not only did you not know a lot of the people there, but the last time you encountered Barty, he got some information out of you that you would rather have kept secret. You were worried that if you encountered him tonight, he may bring it up again.
You kept close to the girls, laughing and dancing mostly, and when you weren’t with them, you were having fun with the boys. You also had Pandora and Dorcas to talk to, you three caught up and enjoyed some time together for a while before you made your way back to where Sirius had started a drinking game in the living room.
The events were hazy after that, you lost a few rounds of the game and drank pretty heavily, mostly to try and avoid conversation with Barty. There was however one moment he caught your eye from across the room and just smirked at you. You quickly looked away, hoping that he wouldn’t come over. If you had a loose tongue at the Thanksgiving party, then you were basically an open book now. You spent the whole night in close range to James, Remus, and Sirius, just in case.
At one point you could remember Remus cutting you off, but you just went to James and asked him for another drink sweetly. He instantly obeyed, shoving his way quickly into the kitchen to grab you a drink.
The rest of the night was hazy again after that, you remember something about Remus and James dragging you to the front door and putting your coat on for you. You remember bits and pieces of the walk back to your house, stumbling and laughing, eventually asking James to carry you the rest of the way.
Remus and James seemed to have held their liquor better than you and Sirius, all of them better than you for sure. You two became drunk partners in crime, laughing at every little thing that happened and joked about nonsensical things.
It was one of those exact nonsensical things that you two were giggling about while Remus opened the door to your house and allowed you two drunk fools in.
You flopped yourself onto the couch, legs hanging over the armrest. Sirius plopped down next to you, moving your head into his lap. You were vaguely aware of James stating he needed something to eat and Remus following him into the kitchen.
You looked up at Sirius, he was gorgeous in this light. Actually, he was always gorgeous, you thought so from the very first time you met him. You remember him standing there with his hair messy and half tied back, his nails painted, tattoos on display.
That’s one thing you loved about him, he looks so hard, so dangerous, but he couldn't be farther than it. He was sweet, kind, charming. He made you laugh. He was incredibly witty and intelligent, even if he didn’t show it, and he was personable. He knew your favorite snacks without you having to tell him, he kept the temperature slightly warmer for you because he knew your feet would freeze, always sided with your movie choices even if he didn’t really want to watch it, he just wanted you happy. He would never admit to any of it of course, he had his appearance to keep up.
“Whaddya starin’ at sweetheart?” He asked. You caught yourself staring up at him, zoned out in your drunken state.
“Nothin.” you giggled.
“Do I have somethin’ on m’face?” He asked you, words slightly slurred together.
“Only pretty.” you replied.
Sirius smiled. He never blushed, but that smile was the closest thing you had ever seen come from him. “You think I'm pretty?”
You giggled again and nodded your head, the room spinning slightly with the movement. Sirius smiled down at you and traced a line down the side of your face, so gentle and his hand so warm.
“You’re the pretty one here, sweetheart.” He said softly, still smiling down at you.
You laughed and shook your head. He was absolutely pretty, his stunning eyes, his curly hair, his perfect lips. Lips that were indeed so close. Close enough that you could just…
You leaned up and locked your lips onto his. He didn’t pull away from you, he faltered for only a moment before kissing you back. His lips were just as warm as his hands and he tasted like cherries and liquor.
You pulled back and saw a light in his eyes, a smile on those perfect lips. “I think you’re really pretty Siri,” You whispered.
Sirius leaned in to connect your lips again, but you heard Remus enter the room and that captured your attention.
He sauntered over to where you were sprawled out on the couch and offered you a glass of water. You looked up at him with your most convincing puppy eyes, trying to convince him not to make you drink it.
He wasn’t convinced, only extending the glass further in your direction. You reluctantly took the glass from him and sat up to take a sip, sitting upright.
“You’ve gotta drink some water, don’t wanna be hungover in the morning do you?” Remus asked.
You rolled your eyes and looked up at him. “I don’t get hungover.” you argued. James entered the living room, half eaten slice of toast in hand.
Remus’s brows shot straight up at your comment. “Sure you don’t,” he mused, “Only last time you were in bed all day and yelled at us if we made the slightest noise.”
“You all deserved it,” You countered, “And I'm not even drunk!” you made to stand up and challenge him, but you forgot the glass in your hand and tilted it too far forward. You felt the water hit the floor before you could react. This wasn’t helping your case.
You looked up at Remus who had a look that you were proving his point written on his features. You started laughing and could hear James chuckling from across the room as well.
“And with that, I think it's time for bed.” Remus said, taking your now mostly empty glass and setting it on the coffee table. He held out his hand, offering it to you. You groaned, too comfy to leave the couch, you’d rather just curl up right here on the couch, and on Sirius’s lap. You definitely didn’t want to walk up stairs.
You couldn’t protest much as Remus grabbed ahold of your hand and hoisted you up onto your feet. You stumbled a little but Remus steadied you, making sure you were fully upright. You laughed which in turn made him laugh as you made your way towards the stairs.
You stopped right in front of them and looked up. It seemed like such a daunting task now. You groaned again. James chuckled from behind you.
“Here get on.” He said, his back to you. You giggled and clumsily climbed onto his back. He gripped the backs of your thighs and piggy backed you up the stairs with ease.
You giggled the whole way up, feeling like you were flying.
He opened your door and walked you to your bed. He dropped you off, and though it wasn’t a far fall, you felt your stomach drop the whole way down. You bounced as you landed on the fluffy mattress, giggly as ever.
“Wait wait don’t go!” you said, grabbing his wrist.
It was James's turn to giggle now as he sat down next to you on the bed. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Remus was leaning against the frame of your door Sirius next to him, leaning back on him for support. They looked so… cute. Like a couple casually showing affection. It was nice to see. You smiled lazily at them and Remus laughed, probably looking goofy.
“Want help taking off your makeup?” Remus asked, walking over to your vanity where you kept some makeup removing wipes.
“No!” you protested, rolling onto your side. “Too eepy. Don’t wanna move.”
Remus again laughed as he walked over to you, wipe in hand. “Well, eepy girls still gotta take their makeup off.” he said. James turned you over so the Remus could wipe away your makeup.
“It’s cold!” you squealed, trying to squirm away from them. It was no use, they were much stronger than you, especially when you were inebriated.
“There you go, love.” Remus said with one final swipe of the wipe.
You brought your hands up to your face, feeling clean and fresh. Remus patted your head and returned to where Sirius was waiting for him at the doorway.
“Wait!” you called after him. “You can stay.”
Remus and Sirius both chuckled and looked at you confused but amused. “What do you mean love? We’re going to our rooms, it’s time for bed.”
“But,” you started pulling James back down onto the bed again once he tried to stand, “You could stay. Here, with me.” You tried your luck with the best puppy eyes you could muster on James. He just looked panicked and looked to Remus for help.
“I’m down for a sleepover.” Sirius laughed, making his way to your bed.
He didn’t make if far before Remus was pulling him back. “Oh, love,” Remus laughed, “How about we have a sleepover a different night, huh?” Sirius shot him a dirty look and opened his mouth to protest.
“But, it’ll be fun!” you tried again. “My bed is big enough for everyone, look!” you sprawled out on your bed, attempting to show off it’s size to them. They could easily all fit, and you could fit right in, feel all of their warmth. “Please.”
It looked as if it genuinely broke Remus’s heart as he said “Love, listen, maybe we can all have a sleepover when we’re all…”
“Sober?” Sirius finished for him.
“I’m not drunk!” you fought. You wanted them to stay, you wanted for them to be close to you tonight. But sadly, James stood and fell into place with Remus and Sirius by the door.
“How about tomorrow, love?” James said, he too looking torn.
You pouted, hoping that a pitiful look to match how you felt on the inside would be enough for them to change their minds.
“Goodnight, Y/N.” Remus said, turning down the hallway, followed by a sad “Goodnight,” from James.
Sirius was the last one left standing at your door. “Goodnight, love,” He said, flipping your light switch off and shutting your door behind him. You saw the shadow of his footsteps retread down the hall as well.
You whined and stripped off your clothes, finding a tshirt off of the floor to sleep in. you tucked yourself into bed, another night of feeling your bed so empty.
sorry if you voted for James or Remus but believe me they will have their time. I wrote this so fast so if there's issues sorry lol, I just wanted to get the idea down.

Friend Groups Meet

rosekiller, jegulus, wolfstar, dorlene, marylily.
summary: Jegulus starts dating and their friend groups finally meet
warnings: smoking, very mild swearing, alcohol
wc: 1.5k+
a/n: Tbh I think this fic focused more on the relationships in the friend groups and not much of them interacting that’s my bad but I wasn’t thinking much when I wrote this lmao, I hope you enjoy anyways because I do still think it’s cute.
When Regulus and James first started dating it was an adjustment to not just them, but each of their friend groups as well. James was a people person, the second they started dating he was begging Regulus to officially introduce his friend group and invite them to hang out with his own.
Despite Regulus’s hesitance towards the situation, with him still having a bit of a rocky relationship with Sirius, and his friends being chaotic in a completely different way compared to the people James surrounded himself with, he eventually agreed.
Only doing so because James was hard to say no to.
It was Saturday night when Regulus told James that he had finally got his friends to agree to a meeting of the friend groups as James called it.
Practically buzzing with joy he had told all of his own friends as he forced them to set up the common room so everything would be perfect. Snacks, blankets, pillows, anything he could think of.
“James, do we really need this much?” Mary groaned as if she hadn’t just been laying in a pile of pillows the whole time.
“I think it’s sweet. James just wants to make a good impression.” Lily pulled her up from the pile and kissed her cheek, instantly making Mary on board with whatever Lily asked.
The rest of them snickered at the altercation before a frazzled Sirius came in.
“My brothers coming here?”
James’ smile dropped a bit, not out of sadness but a bit of concern for Sirius. He knew things had been rough and that he and Reg had talked about trying to improve their brotherly relationship, but that kind of thing took time and the progress wasn’t going to be linear.
“Yeah, not just him though. He’s bringing his friends and we’re all going to hang out tonight. So you don’t have to be alone with him, Pads, don’t worry.”
Sirius seemed to feel a bit better hearing that. Knowing that he didn't have to be alone with Regulus meant that it was less likely for personal matters between the brothers to come up and Sirius could just relax for the night.
He still wasted no time in going over to where Remus had been setting up snacks with Peter and wrapping around him like a koala. Remus softened immediately.
“Hi Pads, how are you feeling?”
“Better.”
Sneaking his hands into Remus’ sweater pocket, he stole the box of cigarettes and slid back before Remus could protest.
“Lils you said you brought games right?” James asked.
“Yep! I’ve got a mix of muggle and wizarding ones.”
James sighed in relief. If you wanted something done Lily was one of the best people to go to. Not because she was a push over but because she took small requests like those like full on missions. She enjoyed seeing people happy because of something she’s done or created.
James walked around the common room once more, checking that everything would be up to standard. Regulus told him not to worry about setting up some big thing but he knew James was going to do it anyway because like Lily, James loved seeing people happy.
“What time did they say they were coming?” Peter asked curiously after setting up the last bit of food he had made.
“Reg said 8 o’clock tonight.”
Marlene came running into the common room ten minutes before 8 o’clock and James was quick to question her.
“Marls! Where have you been?”
Marlene took a moment to catch her breath before speaking.
“I may or may not have completely forgotten we were doing this and I fell asleep right after quidditch practice. Ooo Sirius had cigs, gimme one.”
“Don’t you have manors McKinnon?”
He was met with a grin as she plucked one from the box and stole the lighter from beside him, lighting it up.
“Pish posh.” She mocked, spreading out on one of the couches next to the open window. “You alright there Jamie boy? Looking a little freaked out.”
James had definitely been a little freaked out now. Looking back at the clock more than once every minute. His leg was starting to bounce as well.
“Maybe just a little nervous, yeah.”
“James, you've got nothing to worry about. From what we’ve seen Regulus really likes you so I highly doubt meeting each others friends is going to fuck everything up.” Mary spoke.
The rest of them weren’t hesitant to agree.
Before getting the chance to thank them for the reassurance there were two quick knocks on the common room door. That was how Regulus always knocked and James almost tripped over one of the coffee tables to let them in, much to the others amusement.
“Don’t touch that Barty.” Regulus scolded slightly as they arrived just in front of the Gryffindor common room.
“Damn we’re getting uptight Reg tonight, was really hoping for a different attitude.”
Ignoring him, Regulus knocked on the door and was met with a flustered James. Darkened cheeks that contrasted against his beautiful skin. His glasses were a bit askew but cute nonetheless.
James was in just as much awe staring at Regulus. His curls seemed softer, not styled and perfected with gel like they usually were. James loved it. Though that it felt like he was getting to know Regulus’ softer side even more.
Evan cleared his throat. “You gonna let us in or are we just going to keep standing here while you two gawk at each other?”
Barty laughed and watched as James stumbled over his words before opening the door further and stepping aside, allowing the five of them to enter.
The first bit of the night was no doubt a little awkward for most of them. But when the alcohol that Barty brought kicked in and the cigarettes that were being passed around the room created a small buzz that made everything feel just a bit lighter, people began to enjoy themselves.
Regulus tucked himself comfortably against James’ side, the other boys armed wrapped around him. It felt nice to feel safe and warm. Warm both emotionally and physically, I mean James is his own heater and Regulus had never been more grateful.
Barty and Evan were quite drunk at the moment, they had spent most of the time being absolutely insane, running around like two kids in a grocery store. Though to their credit there were a few times where they settled lovingly on top of one another and also admired the fact that Regulus had relaxed almost instantly in James’s arms.
Dorcas had taken on the reprimanding of them in the beginning but was soon distracted by her own little Gryffindor, Marlene. She had noticed the girl multiple times during quidditch when they played against each other. Dorcas always admired the competitive nature of Marlene and wasn’t afraid to push back with her own.
To her it kept things interesting, both on the quidditch field and maybe some place more intimate now.
Marlene clearly felt the same with how much she had been touching Dorcas. Nudging her, hugging her, grabbing her here and there to distract her from whatever game they were challenging each other at.
Marlene was unable to keep the grin off her face as the night went on, and Dorcas couldn’t help but let a few more soft smiles and smirks grace their way on her face.
She knew if she tried to hide them Marlene would only tease her more.
On the other side of the room Peter and Pandora had been trying each bit of food and playing their own game of shoots and ladders.
Peter had to go through the rules and how to play with her since she had never played muggle games like this one before. She was a quick learner and both of them had engaged in conversation quite quickly. They both seemed to have an interest in magical creatures and had gone on and on about their favourites and which ones were underrated.
Evan and Barty had joined in a bit later. Evan grew a bit overprotective of his sister before Peter had reassured that he was happily dating Sybil and had no intentions of making a move on Pandora, which perked her up quickly, having always liked Sybil before. Peter had no problem in ranting about her and what he loved about her.
On the biggest couch tucked on the side of the wall were Lily, Remus, Mary and Sirius. They had opted for a quieter night, Sirius still getting used to being around his brother but not wanting to let it consume him. He settled for smoking and talking about whatever came to his mind.
Remus and Lily sat listening to him in interest and it quickly turned to both Mary and Sirius setting plans to own a really rich company together. Neither of them knew what the company would sell but they knew they would make millions of dollars off of it.
Maybe it would be a fashion thing, they both were obsessed with fashion and awarded themselves best dressed every single year without fail.
In conclusion everyone had ended up enjoying themselves more than they thought they would. They learned some interesting things about one another through embarrassing stories and truth or dare. The night involved more serious talks and other ones that made you laugh until your stomach hurt. Maybe Slytherin and Gyffindor wouldn’t always be at war anymore. At least not these Slytherins and Gryffindors.

🏳️🌈Marauders at Pride🏳️🌈
(Reader is implied to be queer in some way)
James Potter
- Jamie definitely puts pride flag temporary tattoos on both of his cheeks
- He carries you on his shoulders when your feet get too tired to walk
- He’s buying goodies from so many local queer businesses while he’s there because he wants to give back, treat you, and also get stuff for himself
- I hc that james is queer but this would probably be his first pride parade and he’s so happy he gets to go with you
- imo he’s built for the heat and the long day so trust he has the drinks, snacks, etc. to support the both of you throughout the entirety of your time there
- makes the cutest, darlingest post of the two of you, and the cover photo is one of you on his shoulders
Sirius Black
- two words: body glitter. So much of it. He has enough to go around
- 100% wears the flag of his identity like a cape
- makes the two of you wear those obnoxious couple shirts that have arrows pointing to each other saying “that’s my ____” but it would be like, “that’s my bi/pan/ace boyfriend/girlfriend”… whatever you identify with, and your shirt would have the same for him
- this bitch KNOWS how to use a paper fan and he fucking flaunts it. Will keep both of you cool and also teach you how to use one
- he complains about pride being too early and calls it “homophobic” so you appease him with an energy drink
- only gay music all day
Remus Lupin
- I really don’t think pride is Remus’ thing. It’s loud and hot and physically demanding. But, he will go with you for a few hours!
- The two of you find a nice spot to sit in the shade and watch the parade
- he wears a ton of colorful string bracelets based on your and his identities!
- knows like all the music at the parade and hums along under his breath
- he doesn’t want that many pictures for himself but he’s insistent upon snapping a trillion photos of you for your Instagram (so that he can comment so many lovely words later)
- Remus is a happy camper when you leave pride early and take him to a queer book shops instead where it’s quiet and cool (and you are very happy to oblige him)
Peter Pettigrew
- oh my god he cannot stand the heat, so he buys an electric fan beforehand and also a baseball cap to protect himself from the sun (he will burn)
- is happy to be there because you’re happy to be there!
- he’s all in on the various carnival games set up and the live music
- you buy the two of you ice cream to help cool off from the heat
- takes allllll the free stuff. I mean he has a loaded bag by the end. I especially think he goes crazy for the stickers
- you guys end your night cuddling and watching a queer film
Lily Evans
- she is prepped and ready to go. I mean she’s got sunscreen (our poor girl will burn if she doesn’t), fans, water, portable chargers, snacks, hair ties… all in a fanny pack
- I can’t help but imagine her outfit… the sweetest sundress, sunglasses, and her hair in intricate braids to keep her thick hair out of her face. And she definitely has ribbons tied into her hair that match her pride flag colors
- digi cam queen!!! She’s taking so many pictures of you, her and the two of you together. She’s also so quick to send them to you
- our queen is responsible, so she’s 100% well-fed and rested to do pride all day long
- she wants to see and do everything with you!! You’re stopping at every booth, game, live music performance
- uhm yall have phenomenal post-pride sex
Mary MacDonald
- she’s got the prettiest makeup. Her eyeshadow matches the colors of her pride flag!!!
- she’s bringing her emotional support water bottle to pride and it’s covered in stickers and charms
- Mary somehow makes friends with everyone the two of you meet at pride
- she dances with you along to the music in the middle of the street, grass, etc.
- she insists on doing your makeup/face paint/tattoos/stickers (whatever you choose) for pride
- Mary thrives at pride
Marlene McKinnon
- jorts
- sleeveless tank
- needs to show off all of her tattoos and piercings
- I suspect she’ll get inspiration from other people at pride and go out shortly after to get more
- you are her cover photo on her pride Instagram post
- she’s going to pride with the intention to get a little high or tipsy
- I think she’s always handsy with you but she especially wants to show you off at pride
- her phone dies at pride and she gets a little burnt because she’s underprepared
Dorcas Meadowes
- you better be jealous cuz everyone is staring at Dorcas at pride. She looks like a literal angel
- also wearing a shit ton of body glitter
- she has a million little pride flags to pass out to people
- you are her photographer (ofc she is obsessed with you and will take photos of you too, but let’s be honest she’s stealing the show)
- somehow ends up being invited to walk in the parade and drags you along with her
- has acrylics matching her pride flag
Regulus Black
- you’re not getting him there
- im sorry he loves you, he loves being queer but he’d die.
- it’s loud, busy, he’d burn so bad, and people generally annoy him
- but I promise you he’s doing something super sweet all of June to celebrate you
- ofc gets a pride flag up in your home- one of the big ones
- gets you a sweet gift and flowers
- takes all your queer book recs
- and you do the same for him even though he’s shy about it

we're just making it worse | r.j.l.

back to series masterlist | back to main masterlist
part six: the wedding
contains: remus lupin x fem!reader, modern! no magic! au, poorly-written dialogue, alcohol consumption, awkward/tense interactions, a happy ending, unedited, I think that's it- if I missed anything let me know !
word count: 2.8k
day of the wedding…
You’re up earlier than you would be on a Saturday morning. You peel your eyes open not to the sound of the alarm you had set on your phone, but by the music your roommate was playing in the kitchen. You wander out of bed, throwing on a comfy set of clothes and finally check your phone. The girls were due to be over in an hour for a pre-wedding breakfast. Pandora is cooking pancakes over the stove when you get into the kitchen, the coffee pot full and the tea kettle resting on the counter.
You pour yourself a mug of your choice and lean back against the other counter.
“Sleep well?”
You hadn’t. Pandora’s words from the night before haunted your mind, playing over and over again.
“Maybe it’s time you stop bullshitting yourself and wake up.”
“Yeah, fine. You?”
Pandora flipped the pancakes and turned around.
“I hardly slept, I was so excited!” You smile at the blonde girl. You loved Pandora’s outward enthusiasm for things. You set your mug down after another sip and rolled your sleeves up.
“Alright, what can I help with?”
An hour later the fruit has been cut, the pancakes have been made, and a few other snacks and beverages have been set out. A knock pulls you and Pandora out of your zone and you grin.
Dorcas and Marlene enter, excitedly hugging the two of you then taking off their shoes and plopping down on the couch. Mary soon after, practically shaking with joy as you put a cup of coffee into her hands.
Lily is the last to arrive, walking through the door and immediately apologizing that Petunia wouldn’t be joining you all that morning.
“Lily!” Pandora shouts, taking her friend’s hands in hers. Lily stops rambling, taking deep breaths with Pandora for a moment.
“Today is going to be magical.” Pandora says softly guiding the redhead into the apartment. Each of you make a plate of food, enjoying a nice breakfast, chatting about the events of the day, and reminiscing about James and Lily’s love story.
“I still can’t believe you two used to hate each other.”
“I know- he was such a prick in school-”
“I think Lily always secretly fancied him.” Pandora hums as she begins to clean up.
You continue to chat and clean up until its time for you all to split ways to bring your things to the venue.
You’re washing the last of the dishes when Pandora comes into the kitchen.
“I can’t believe she’s really getting married.”
You nod, feeling a familiar sting in your eyes as you hold back tears for one of your best friends. Pandora seems to sense the change in your demeanor and rubs your back a couple of times before heading off to her room.
You follow suite soon, gathering your dress in its dust bag and the pre-packed accessories you needed for the day.
“Dora, are you ready to go?” You shout out across the hall. You hear some shuffling and clanging around before Pandora opens her door in a frenzy.
“Yes! On time, might I add.” Pandora shimmies out of her room and towards the door.
It takes you about an hour to get to the venue, but once the two of you are there it seems you both get chills. The townhouse is small, but the meadow behind it stretches on for miles, decorated in wildflowers. You and Pandora link arms and carry your bags into the house, directed by the wedding planner upstairs to the dressing rooms. Mary, Marlene and Dorcas are already there, hanging out with Lily in the common area, flutes of champagne in hand.
“Hello ladies!” Pandora cheers, hanging her dress on a rack and plopping down on the couch next to Dorcas.
“Hiya! How was the ride over?” Mary asked, taking a strawberry from the platter on the side table. Before you can utter any kind of word the wedding planner bursts into the room.
“Alright ladies, Lily congratulations on the big day, but it’s time to get things moving. Pandora, Mary, Marlene, Petunia-” You notice Petunia coming out of the bathroom, you hadn’t even noticed she was there but her usual stick-up-the-ass demeanor seemed to have relaxed, “You ladies are due to start getting into your bridesmaid attire.”
The aforementioned group rises from their respective seats, and takes their dresses, moving into another room. You and Dorcas remain sat on the couch, Lily sitting in the makeup-artist’s chair.
“Lily you are so beautiful” You think out loud, the ginger woman’s face turns a pale pink. The next couple hours pass by in a blur, everyone cheers as the bridesmaids come out in their gowns, then you and Dorcas take your turns getting ready, and finally Lily is completing her ensemble in the separate room.
When she comes into the common area, you feel your breath leave you. Lily, her ever radiant self, looked as though she had come straight from the gates of heaven. Her hair curled and framing her face perfectly, her makeup subtle but enhancing. Her dress suited her perfectly, a warm, bright cream color.
“James is going to cry. I’m calling it now.” Marlene raises her hand in announcement. The seven of you laugh. You wish you could stay like this forever, with your friends, feeling all of the emotions of one of the happiest days of their lives.
Your phone buzzes with a message from Stephan saying he was outside of the venue. You send a quick message back that you’re on your way and say your goodbyes, taking Dorcas with you as you head downstairs.
You find Stephan in a suit with a boutonniere matching your own dress. You smile.
“Hey- glad you could make it.” You greet with a casual hug. Stephan smiles back to you.
“Wow- you look-” His words trail off and you fear it will be awkward again but he continues. “You look amazing. Seriously. Give us a twirl.” You raise a brow to him but he takes your hand and twirls you around. You laugh naturally.
“Thank you, you look great as well. Should we go find our seats?”
You and Stephan sit, the second row from the front. You smile and greet the people you recognize, waving politely at people you don’t.
“You know a lot of people.” Stephen mutters next to you. You turn to him.
“Lily and James know a lot of people, and I know Lily and James.”
Eventually the ceremony begins, and you swear as James turns to face the crowd at the end of the aisle, you can see tears in his eyes already. You grin at the thought of Marlene’s announcement.
The ceremony is beautiful, the music enchanting, and Lily even more so. It seems to go by in the blink of an eye and before you know it, one of your best friends is being called ‘Mrs.Potter’ as she kisses her now-husband.
You applaud, taking the flower petals provided under each chair and tossing them over the couple as they pass.
The wedding planner takes the stage.
“We will move to the side of the house for a reception. We would greatly appreciate it if you joined us.”
With that the crowd begins to pour out through the house and out the side door to where a beautiful large canopy tent had been set up, its interior decorated with a dancefloor, tables, a bar, and a buffet of finger foods. You were grateful that rather than a formal dinner, the couple opted for a ‘fend for yourself’ party. The music was already playing, upbeat and celebratory.
You take Stephan and find Dorcas waiting in line at the bar.
“What a beautiful ceremony.” You comment, grinning at your friends. Stephan nods beside you.
“I didn’t expect anything less to be completely honest.” Stephan rolls the sleeves of his dress shirt up. The line moves forward and eventually you find yourself sitting at a table with your friends, drinking and laughing and crying over the love you held for your dear friends.
Lily and James enter the tent and the crowd erupts into applause and cheers. Lily’s dress is shorter now, but just as exquisite and James had lost his coat and tie, his sleeves rolled up and the top two buttons of his shirt undone in perfect dishevelment for the rest of the night.
People find their way back to their tables, nursing their drinks as Sirius and Petunia make their way up to the DJ’s booth.
Sirius recounts stories of James and Lily’s origin, humiliating James only slightly and praising the couple for their journey. Petunia’s speech centers more around Lily and her upbringing, but still manages to bring a tear to your eye. James and Lily toast to one another, then to their guests, and the music finally resumes.
Soon enough everyone else at the reception begins to get up and dance, leaving their empty glasses and cleared plates abandoned on the table in favor of the playlist that had been put together for the party.
Dorcas and Barty drag you, Evan, Regulus, and Stephan up to the dance floor. You reunite with Pandora, Xeno, Marlene and Mary eventually and spend a good while swaying along to the upbeat music. Time flies and you nearly forget about the looming presence you’ve been trying to ignore the entire day.
The music begins to slow and people cling to their significant others. You turn to Stephan and hesitantly wrap your arms around his neck, his around your waist. Over his shoulder you can see the back of Remus’s head, Emmeline’s arms wrapped around his neck. You felt sick. You pushed the feeling down just as soon as it arrived and looked away from the couple and back to your own date.
“Thanks for coming with me through all of this wedding stuff.” You smile up at the man. He nods. The two of you continue to sway.
“Hey, anything for an old friend.” His voice is low and something in your chest tells you to get away. You push it down, you trusted Stephan, he knew you were both there as friends, he wouldn’t-
You’re broken away from your thoughts as Stephan presses his lips to yours and within half a second, not even, you push him away.
“Oh no- I-” You start, taking a step back.
“I’m so sorry I-”
“No- it’s just-”
“Yeah I-” You hold up a hand, stopping him in his tracks.
“I don’t want you to get the wrong idea, Stephan, it’s just I’m-”
“Not over him. I get it. It’s fine. I’m sorry.” Despite the change in mood, you know that Stephan does understand. You can tell that there aren't any hard feelings between the two of you and return to one another to finish dancing. This time when you look over Stephan’s shoulder you don’t see the back of Remus’s head, but instead you meet his eyes. Emmeline is leaning her head against his chest and his hands are still resting on her waist.
You want to vomit. You want to run to him. You want to leave the venue altogether. There’s a storm brewing in your head of thoughts and regret. But it was too late for you now. How could you get in the way of what clearly is a happy couple?
The song ends and you and Remus are still holding eye contact. The break is sudden and he removes his hands from Emmeline’s waist, muttering something to her and then rushing out of the tent and into the house.
You look to Stephan, apologizing quickly then following.
You find Remus marching down a hallway.
“Remus.” He stops, then turns to you.
“Hey.” You say again, softer this time.
The two of you stand there, looking at each other in silence for a moment. Remus is the first to break the ice.
“Did you need something?” He asks, his voice distant.
“Yeah- I need to know why you’re being so weird.” You cross your arms, tired of the cat and mouse games you’ve been playing since these wedding festivities began.
“I’m not being weird-”
“You are though-”
“Just stop-”
“No, not until you tell me what’s going on!” You’re shouting now, exhausted.
“Well how do you expect me to act seeing you with him?”
Your heart nearly stops. You wait for him to continue but he doesn’t. Instead he runs a hand through his air then unbuttons his cufflinks in a huff.
“Are you kidding me?” You start, Remus looks up. “You’re kidding right? You’re acting like a child, Remus. And you have no right to be all weird and finicky, about something that doesn’t even exist, might I add, when you’ve been with Emmeline this entire time!”
You were beyond frustrated with the man at this point. But you don’t wait for him to speak this time.
“You’re the one that wanted to break up, Remus. You.” You march towards him, pointing an accusatory finger at his chest. “You moved on, and that’s fine! But you don’t get to be upset with me about-”
“You think I moved on?” You stop, your breath hitched. Remus had taken a step forward, the two of you standing a mere yard from one another now.
“What?”
“You think I moved on?”
“Well didn’t you? With Emmeline? That’s why you brought her, right? Some kind of sick hard launch to make me feel like I lost the break up?” Your words were flying out of you. You didn’t mean most of them, your innermost thoughts being revealed without you meaning to.
“Emmeline and I aren’t together.”
Your heart stops.
“Oh.” is all you can say. Remus takes another step forward.
“You and him aren’t together?” You look up at Remus, meeting his eye. You hated how tall he was, how it made him all the more attractive. His eyes were warm, not cold like the last time the two of you looked at each other like this.
“You and him aren’t together?” You look up at Remus, meeting his eye. You hated how tall he was, how it made him all the more attractive. His eyes were warm, not cold like the last time the two of you looked at each other like this.
“No,” you find yourself whispering now.
Remus nods.
“I haven’t moved on.” His voice is low, emotion swimming in his dark eyes.
“Right,” You’re breathless. “Is there..” You trail.
“What?” Remus asks. His voice is kind, the tone he’d use when you were laying in bed together after a long day.
“Is there something still here?” Your heart is racing, you are pleading with the universe that you’re not embarrassing yourself. Remus takes your hand by your side.
“I think so..” He’s leaning down now, your breaths mixing, hot against your face. You search his eyes for any sign of mockery, in case this is all a big joke. You find none and move your other hand up to his face.
“I think we’ve just been making this all worse.” You think out loud, your eyes flicking down to his lips then back up to his eyes. Remus nods silently, parting his lips then surging forward.
When your lips meet it’s like a sigh. Like you had just come up for air after swimming for months. You move in sync, your bodies remembering each other as though no time had passed. Remus’s hands move up to hold your face, pressing firmer against your mouth. Your hands grip the front of his shirt, almost desperate.
Remus hums, then pulls away for a moment.
“I think we need to talk.” You nod, moving forward to kiss him once again.
Between kisses you mutter, “Later,” and “Our friends are never going to let us hear the end of this.” Remus smiles softly, almost laughing.
The two of you stay like that for what feels like hours- days, even.
When you finally draw back for air you bring your hands up to Remus’s face once more, looking him in the eye.
“Are you sure?”
Remus nods, “I don’t think I’ve been more sure about anything.”
You smile and Remus lets out a breath.
Eventually the two of you make your way back out to the tent, simply walking side by side, but when your eyes meet Pandora’s you know that there is no secret that can be kept, and you would indeed never hear the end of it.
The rest of the night is a blur of drunken dancing and congratulations to the happy couple. You don’t return home until early in the morning, your shoes in hand and your hair a mess of what it had been before the party.
You and Pandora collapse onto the couch for a moment of peace.
“That was so fun.”
“Yeah it seems like we both had a nice night, I’d say.” Pandora’s head lolls against the back of the couch in your direction. Your face warms and you bring your hands up to cover it.
“Is it that obvious?”
“I fear it is, my dear friend. But don’t worry. We’re all happy for you.”
“Thanks, Dora.”
“Of course, lovely! Plus! Now Barty and Evan owe me 50 quid.” With that the blonde gets up from the couch. “Dibs on the first shower!” You shake your head, looking out the window at the rising sun.
Yeah, you did have a nice night, you’d suppose.

How far I can see
Sirius learned from a young age to always be aware of his surroundings. Let's see where it brought him.
Sirius knew when Mother was in a bad — or “worse”, in better wording — mood just as he heard her stepping into the room and when it was better to just skip dinner altogether and avoid one of Father’s rage outbursts — not that he was starving himself; Kreacher would bring his plate later. He also knew was what upsetting Regulus before he could open his mouth. No one noticed that about him — not that anyone paid any attention to his needs anyway, but that is off the matter. That only convinced Sirius he had an ability beyond his magic.
When he met James, Remus and Peter, he had chances to see if his power was really that secret. First, Peter. He was afraid of getting scolded at classes for being clumsy. Then, Remus (to be honest, there was no way he could just sit and watch the boy for a whole night on a monthly basis, come back with the lamest excuses — what dying, estranged great-great uncle would require whole family gatherings every full moon for months and not just die? Not to mention the scars and bruises. The Blacks could be wicked and twisted all they wanted, but at least they had the decency of fully healing their offspring before allowing them into the public eye again). After that, there was James. Who would say that the sunshine prankster had his eclipsed evenings? Sirius. Sirius would say that. And finally, the most heartbreaking of them all: Lily. He saw the Snivellus disaster coming two days into fourth year.
Still, no one seemed to perceive Sirius the way he perceived others. That was until his 17th birthday. James, Peter and Remus decided to throw him a surprise party. A whole ass Halloween-themed party. And Peter even decided to go a few steps further to get Regulus to attend —to a genuinely unexpected success.
“I think he is hiding a third eye under all that hair”, James announced as he entered the Gryffindor Common Room with a box of records in his arms. “I could swear he looked at me as if he knew what I was thinking during breakfast.”
“I mean, Sirius is a dog and dogs can smell fear, so… you do the math”, Remus shrugged. “That probably just means you have to be more discreet.”
“Which is true, by the way”, Regulus pointed out as the set up the snack table with Emmeline.
“Oh, shut up, Arcturus.”
A few hours — and a lot of arguing — later, Remus grinned and declared:
“Showtime.”
People started to relax and mingle while he went on his quest: meet Sirius after his detention with Filch.
“What’s up with everybody?”, Sirius asked, tangling his own arm on the arm that Remus offered him (you can call them cheesy all you want, they just want to be in each other’s arms all they can).
“Nothing. Why do you ask?”
“No reason in particular. It’s just… everybody seems to be avoiding me lately and I can’t get why. And I am usually good at reading people.”
That was the only thing Remus feared in the whole process. At first, he seemed like the perfect candidate — better than Frank or Mary showing up, at least —, but it also meant the had to lie and improvise — and he was out of his cover-ups stock since the third year; all he had to offer were technical loopholes reserved for when they were caught by professors.
I can do this, he thought. It’s not that long of a walk.
“You are very special, Sirius. Did you know that?”
“Aww, thanks, babe”, Sirius got on the tip of his toes to kiss the other boy’s cheek. “As a matter of fact, yes. Mother used to say that a lot. She used less kind synonyms, though. Damaged, cursed, shame, embarrassment and disappointment, to mention some examples.”
“Well, if you take them as your standard, then something is clearly wrong with you, but if it wasn’t… would you be happy with your life?”
“Of course not. You wouldn’t be in it.”
“Sap”, Remus grinned. “But seriously, try to relax and stop thinking about what the others are thinking. You can’t do anything about it.”
You don’t know what you are talking about, Sirius whispered underneath his breath.
“Home, sweet home”, Remus sighed after giving the password to the Fat Lady portrait.
“Surprise!”, shouted a choir composed by every Gryffindor who had ever interacted with Sirius —special guest: Regulus.
“Happy birthday, mate”, said James, with a giant smile and ready to wrap him in a hug.
While people drank, ate, chatted and danced, Sirius walked around, contemplating their effort. Pictures of and with him adorned the walls, creating a museum-worthy collection of joyful moments, unlike the thousands of portraits in the Black manor, whose sole purpose was to keep a registry of those who had started there a both miserable and opulent existence.
They were playing the songs he had heard for the first time on that very same room and that now the cherished dearly. They had gathered all the snacks he wasn’t allowed to gave growing up. They had Marlene prepare drinks just like Slughorn would do to a batch of potions —an especially colorful one. They had reunited all the people who managed to walk their way into his heart —one more than all the others, but that is a whole different story. They had even brought his baby brother, which likely called for a truce. They had assembled everything he most loved. And he hadn’t even mentioned enough how much he loved each one of them. Because he didn’t have to. They saw him. Just like he saw them.

Marylily short fic - 873 words - Based on 'strawberry mentos' - @lienspien
When Lily realized that she had fallen in love with Mary, it was when they were running errands together, and were buying groceries. While they were in the supermarket, Lily bought all the stuff they needed while walking through the aisles slowly and carefully, making sure not to miss a single thing off the list, while Mary went straight to the candy aisle.
Lily just assumed she would be buying them some snacks and candy they can eat while hanging out with friends or watching something together. When they met up again to pay for everything, Lily looked at what Mary had gotten, and she had seen two packs of her favourite candy, strawberry mentos, and she felt so happy. Mary had remembered her favourite candy, and had decided to buy her some too.
That was the day Lily realised her feelings for Mary, and from that day, Lily kept her eye out to see what Mary's favourite candy was. After around two weeks of looking at what Mary always ate for her sweets, and looking at what she bought regularly at the grocery shop, she figured out that Mary's favourite candy was black licorice, the universally hated candy. Lily hated it too, but she didn't care.
Whenever she went to the store, or found herself near a candy shop, she would go in and buy some black licorice for Mary, and some strawberry mentos for herself.
And life went on, but the strawberry mentos were still there, and so was the black licorice. Life went on, and they became closer, they talked more, they became best friends, they went to each other for everything they could, except for who they liked.
And still the strawberry mentos were there, on Mary's bedside table, waiting to be finished and replaced with more. And still the black licorice was there, scattered all over Lily's room, waiting to be eaten and replaced.
Their candy was all over the house now, infesting the corners of their living room, scattered all over the kitchen, like their love for each other, hidden and unspoken, but there nonetheless.
After a month and two, Lily realised how kind and sweet Mary truly was. They had always made time for each other when they were friends, but now Mary wanted to spend most of her time with Lily, and Lily wanted to spend most of her time with Mary, so they figured out ways to make it work.
They were the closest they had ever been.
After a while, she realised that she was really in love with Mary so Lily decided to get Mary a gift and some black licorice, and asked her out on a 'friend date' at Mary's favourite restaurant. Of course Mary couldn't say no to that, so they went out together on a Friday, Lily had gotten all dressed up, and made sure she had the gift and the black licorice with her before taking her and Mary there.
While they were at the restaurant, they talked and talked, and when they ordered the food, Lily realised she was just staring into Mary's eyes, so she decided to bring up the fact that both of them haven't had boyfriends or girlfriends for around a year. Mary knew that Lily was bisexual, but she never brought it up, so Lily decided to with the girlfriend comment.
After that they talked a little about love life, and their own love lives before they had met each other, and then they ate.
After eating all their food and paying the bill, they had just gone outside of the restaurant and then Lily gave Mary her gift –the black licorice included– and asked her to be her girlfriend since she really liked her. Surprisingly Mary said yes, confessing her love as well, and then they had their first kiss, so sweet and innocent. Mary's breath had tasted like strawberry mentos, while Lily's tasted like black licorice, it was the perfect mix.
A date turned into, two turned into three, and then they were so obviously in love with each other, and were finally dating.
After that day, they always acted in love with each other, not bothering to even hide it in front of their friends before they told them. Throughout those times the black licorice and strawberry mentos stayed on their bedsides, and when they moved into the same room, Lily's black licorice and Mary's strawberry mentos were on the same bedside table, almost as if to mirror the movements of their shared lives.
When they argued (and trust me they argued sometimes), Lily made sure to calm herself down, and Mary made sure to talk everything out. They had balanced each other in a way that truly made them more in love, which had barely even felt possible.
After almost a year of dating, Lily realised that Mary still regularly had breath that smells like strawberry mentos, and every time they kissed, it was a mix of strawberry and black licorice.
And everytime Lily remembered that, she knew Mary was the one she was going to be with for the rest of her life. She was amazing, and even if she wasn't perfect, they were perfect for each other.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
April 18th, 1975
Lily Evans was a saint. And not just because she was sweet, and pretty, and unbelievably kind, but because after four years she had yet to punch James Potter in the face. Four years of pining, of unsolicited compliments and across-the-room drooling, and the most she had returned was an eye roll.
After becoming closer with Mary through Marlene, it was only natural that Lily snuck her way into the fold as well, and by the end of the year, the four were inseparable. This new circle came at the perfect time, because Remus had distanced himself far from the rest of them, and she’d never felt more lost.
After the death of his mother, Remus retreated into himself. The majority of his time was now spent tucked away in solitude in the library, or holed up in the dorm with his bed curtains closed. He didn’t ignore them, conversations were still answered if prompted, but Remus seemed to make sure to keep them all at arms length. She had tried to weasel her way into his secluded bubble a few times by sneaking to the library and posting up at his favorite table near the back. The moment he caught sight of her, he offered an apologetic half-smile and mumbled some clearly invented excuse about “just checking out a book for later”. Arms full of heavy textbooks, he’d then scurry off back towards Gryffindor Tower. James, ever the optimist, was adamant that he would come around, but as the castle warmed, she wasn’t so sure.
“—so it’s settled!” Lily clapped her hands together across the table in the Great Hall, “Girls night, tonight!”
She sat between Peter and Marlene, moping into her breakfast while the chipper redhead gave a rundown of activities for the night. Remus had rushed down earlier, grabbing a plateful of food and ran out of the hall with a brief explanation of “an important essay due”. The look on Sirius’ face let her know that he was calling bullshit as well, shaking his head and refusing to even look at his friend as he grabbed three pieces of toast from the center of the table.
“—and you!” Lily pointed a fork at her, “can you steal some snacks from the kitchens?”
Looking up from the plate, she met her friend’s emerald green eyes. The sincere excitement sparkling back made her smile.
“Of course Lils,” she laughed, watching the grin on her friends’ face widen.
“If you manage to grab some treacle tart, I will forever be in your debt!” Lily fluttered her eyelashes, pouting dramatically.
Two seats down, James leaned forward over his plate.
“I’ll bring you treacle tarts every day if you give me a shot Evans—“
The entire table groaned.
Lily’s fake pleading vanished as she rose from the table, completely ignoring James once again, “I’ll see you lot tonight!” She flashed the girls a smile, and before turning to leave, she could’ve sworn the ghost of a blush was on Lily’s cheeks.
Glancing over at Mary, she could tell that it wasn’t missed by her either. This would undoubtedly be brought up later, the smirk she was hiding was confirmation of this.
As the other two girls began a detailed discussion on Mary’s new Ravenclaw fling, she turned her attention across the table.
“Have any of you tried talking to Remus?”
Sirius shook his head, James just looked defeated.
“I don’t understand what his problem is,” Sirius said a little too forcefully, “I understand his mum died, but it’s been months!”
“Just because you have a bad relationship with your mother, doesn’t mean the rest of us do,” she shot, completely not caring about his feelings at the present moment.
His eyes narrowed, and sensing another spat, James jumped in to divert.
“We have something that might chip away at him though!” He motioned across the table at Pete, who promptly leaned closer to her.
“We finished the map,” Peter whispered in her ear.
Her eyes widened, “Are you serious?”
“No, just me—ow!”
Her foot made contact with Sirius’ shin.
“We started taking turns cataloging all of the students and faculty,” James looked at her from beside his wincing friend, “but after Christmas…well, y’know what happened.”
“So we took over his part of it, and finished it last night!” Peter added cheerily.
“We’re going to show him tonight,” James smiled.
She was out of ideas when it came to bringing Remus back from the dead, so she hoped beyond anything that this would work.
———
“—you chose truth, Marls! You have to tell us!” Mary yelled over the blaring sound of Abba playing in the corner of the Gryffindor girls dormitory. The four of them were spread out across the floor in a circle, snacks and nail polish littered between the cushions and blankets they had dragged off the beds. Lily sat in front of her as she carefully braided the long red locks down her friends back, while Mary and Marlene tossed crisps at each other across the circle.
“Okay, okay, fine!” Marlene huffed loudly, shooting her friend an annoyed glare, “You know that really pretty Slytherin third year…”
“Ooooo, are you talking about Regulus?” Mary purred, eliciting a low groan from across the room.
Reggie’s face popped into her head, and she scowled aggressively at the thought of any of her friends having a crush on Sirius’ bigoted little brother.
Marlene rolled her eyes, “No! The uh…their house Chaser…”
Her eyes widened, “Marls, are you talking about Dorcas Meadowes?”
The blonde girl across from her nodded sheepishly, eyes averting towards the floor. Marlene wasn’t exaggerating, Dorcas was really pretty, on top of being an excellent quidditch player.
“Have you asked her out?” She grinned devilishly at Marlene, who in turn blushed deeply.
“No…” a devious smile began to creep onto Marlene’s face, “Not yet, anyway.”
Lily squealed excitedly, “Are you going to ask her to the next Hogsmeade weekend?!”
Marlene nodded, “Yeah, I think I will.”
Mary threw a supportive arm around her friend’s shoulder, “If you need a wingwoman, you know I’m always available.”
The two began to giggle, joined in by the others quickly afterwards. For a moment, she felt light, like nothing was amiss. At that point in time, the war ceased to exist, Remus wasn’t m.i.a., the world was right. It was as short lived as a passing breeze, the reality of everything crashing back down, heavier than ever.
“Did you hear about McGonagall’s brother?” Mary whispered solemnly, beginning to brush bright blue polish onto her outstretched toes.
Lily made a soft noise of refusal, reaching over to steal some crisps from the bag in Marlenes hand.
“…murdered—“
Lily gasped audibly, the other girls gaping at Mary’s admission.
“—the Prophet’s practically confirmed that it was you-know-who’s doing…without actually saying it outright of course,” she rolled her big brown eyes.
“My dad says the Prophet is rubbish nowadays,” Marlene shook her head, “He says it’s run by a bunch of cowards.”
Her body no longer felt like her own, suspended somewhere between realities, “James’ parents said something similar last year…”
“They work for the ministry, right?” Mary looked up at her, face pale and eyes filled with poorly veiled fear.
She nodded a response, “Yeah, they’ve been updating James as much as they can, but I think it’s worse than they’re letting on.”
“Why do you think that?” Lily’s voice was meek as she pulled her knees toward her chest.
The inhale she took was shaky, trying to quell the uneasy feeling of dread she had pushed down the past few months, “His parents look…exhausted. When I saw them over the winter holiday, they barely looked like themselves…they were shells.”
No one spoke for a few minutes. Lily stared into space, green eyes miles away from here. The four of them didn’t know what to say, maybe there was nothing that could be said. At the end of the day, they were kids. They weren’t soldiers, they weren’t spies; the biggest problem in their lives should be finding a date to Hogsmeade, not maneuvering through a war.
A knock on the dormitory door broke them out of the fog.
The four of them looked between each other in silent questioning.
“Who is it?” Mary called skeptically.
“It’s Remus.”
She stared across the circle at Mary, “I thought boys couldn’t get up here?”
Her friend shrugged, “Yes, but technically you can get around it if you make a verbal invitation.” “We gave Remus a permanent one,” Lily interjected.
She stared at the red head, then back to Mary.
Mary shrugged again, “He’s the only one we trust to not be a major creep, and besides, he’s part of our study group.”
Valid point.
She got up, offering quietly to answer the door, knowing full-well he was probably there for her anyway.
The heavy wooden door creaked slightly as she opened it. Remus’ hazel eyes slid to hers.
God, she had missed him.
“What do you want?” She said cooly, trying to contain the excitement of him actually seeking her out for the first time in weeks.
Remus held up the map, eyes sparkling in the low light of the corridor, “Wanted to show you the final product.”
The corner of her mouth turned upward as she turned around to let the girls know she’d be right back.
The coolness of the corridor was grounding as she closed the dormitory door and looked up at her best friend.
“Walk with me?” He dared a small smile, one only for her.
“To where?”
He held up the map again, turning to walk back down the stairs, “Anywhere we want to now.”
———
They meandered through the deserted halls of the castle, Remus holding the map to keep watch for anyone in their path. By the time they climbed the Astronomy Tower, the tension between the two of them had dissipated almost entirely.
She walked over to the open archway overlooking the grounds and stared off over the lake. The Forbidden Forest chittered and growled in the distance, a few birds scattering over the darkened tree tops.
Remus came to her side, leaning against the opposite pillar, “Not sure about you, but I’d say the map is a success. For once, those three put their heads toward something more productive—“
“It’s getting worse, isn’t it?” She whispered, never breaking sight away from the lake.
“What is?” Remus’ voice grew concerned.
“The war…all of this…” her voice was strained.
He sighed, not in annoyance or reluctance, but grief.
“Yeah. James has told me some things privately, and it’s…not good. I take it you’ve probably heard about McGonagall’s brother?”
She nodded distantly.
Remus continued, “There’s been more attacks like that. Ones the ministry is keeping quiet about. The Death Eaters are wiping out entire families—“
“—why didn’t you tell me?”
A tiny kernel of hurt began to burrow into her chest. She told him everything, he was her best friend.
Remus stared down at his shoes nervously, “I didn’t want you to worry, I’m sorry.”
She turned to him, eyes rimmed silver, “I’m scared, Remus.”
He closed the space between them, pulling her into his arms and hugged her against his body.
“I am too. We all are,” he rested his chin on the top of her head, “I can’t reassure that everything will be okay, but I can promise that I will do whatever is in my power to keep you safe.”
“No—“ she shook her head slowly, backing up to stare at the concerned lines of his face, “I don’t need you to protect me, I want to do something to help.”
Remus sighed, “You heard what the Potters’ said, there’s nothing we can do right now, we should just focus on school.”
“If there was a way though, would you do it?”
He narrows his eyes in confusion, “Do what?”
“Help. Get involved. Fight. Do something, I don’t know…”
He was silent for a moment, eyes cast across the grounds towards the forest in thought. When he finally speaks, it’s quieter, but behind it lies an unusual ferocity she hadn’t heard before.
“Of course I would. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about it.”
Embracing him again, she rested her head on his chest, “Promise me that if we ever get the opportunity, you’ll fight with me.”
Remus’ arms tightened around her, “I promise.”
She inhaled him deeply, the warmth of his body seeping into her bones. Nothing was certain anymore, not within the circumstances they were living through, but she was unwaveringly sure that Remus’ promise was anything but empty.

TRIGGER WARNING: somewhat detailed descriptions of various forms of self-harm and referenced abuse
The Black and Rosier cousins’ loved ones are no strangers to their weird family dynamic and its consequences.
Rita and Evelyn sometimes see Bella kneeling face to a wall, muttering how she isn’t enough and needs to be better after receiving a bad grade on an assignment.
Ted and Amelia have both faced Andy’s wrath when something isn’t going her way, seeing her lose control and lash out only to cry herself to sleep later that night in regret.
Alice has had to wrestle Cissa out of the shower after she had scrubbed herself raw following a letter from her mother had sent critiquing her body and saying she was wasting herself not dating a man.
James has scooped Sirius off the floor and detangled and regrew his hair after an episode where he had chopped of his hair with his potion knives because he looked in the mirror that morning and saw his mother staring back at him.
Remus has healed Sirius’ hands, full of shards of glass, and repaired their whole dorm after Sirius had sent rogue spells flying when they received a letter from their parents.
Dorcas has made sure to escort Reg to meals and monitor his eating because he had fainted on the quidditch pitch at practice again.
James has sat Regulus down in the prefect’s bath and washed his hair for him when he hadn’t slept in days leading up to exams.
Barty has wiped away Ev’s tears and made sure all the bed curtains were opened and that there was a candle burning near Ev’s bed when he was extra jumpy coming back from breaks.
Lily has floated Pandora down from the astronomy tower roof where she was looking at the stars after climbing there to escape the great hall where there had been a fight at meal time.
All of their friends and partners had witnessed and experienced the negative repercussions of growing up in that environment, but had all also seen how, despite all the trauma, they had such kind souls.
How Bella would braid the first years’ hair and tell them wonderful stories about queens and fairies and how strong those women had been just to see the little girls smile a little bit brighter.
How Andy’s hugs felt like they could heal anything, as if her arms around you meant you were safe, and when she let go and gave you a kiss on the forehead you knew, no matter what had happened or was going to happen, that you would be okay.
How Cissa would sneak into the kitchens and bake with the house elves and bring back her friends’ favourite snacks, often somehow managing to get ahold of an old family recipe that just tasted like childhood.
How Sirius laughed so loud and their eyes twinkled in the sun, how he walked the halls with an arm around one friend and a hand in another’s, pulling them in as close as he could.
How Reg would leave little notes to those he cared about, sometimes to remind them of something he thought they might forget, other times simply because he had thought of them and wanted to let them know.
How Ev’s smile felt like a crackling fire, how he made a conscious effort every year to learn everyone’s name and stop and chat with people randomly in between lessons and in the common room.
How Dora would take an interest in her friend’s hobbies and learnt to crochet, paint, cook, fly, write, play guitar and so much more in order to make those she loved feel valued and important.
Their friends and partners grew to love every aspect of them, but sometimes they would forget that things aren’t always black and white, and some things are just inexplicably bizarre.
Sitting around the Potter’s yard after Reg’s graduation celebration, all the Black-Rosier cousins and their loved ones gathered around a fire pit and reminisced about their childhood. Everything was going smoothly; Lily had shared how she loved going to the record store with her dad on Sundays to pick out a new vinyl, Mary had shared stories about camping trips with her parents and brothers near the coast, Rita had shared how she would spend hours journalling everyday and how she still has all of her old journals from her childhood, Ted recounted how he loved trips to Ireland to visit his grandparents and how his parents always used to put on Frank Sinatra on long car trips, Barty shared how him and his mother used to spend hours doing puzzles and listening to old muggle movies because that was the only time Barty would be quiet for more than 2 minutes at a time, Dorcas shared stories of visiting their mother’s family in Jamaica and how delicious the food was, Alice told stories about James, Marlene, and Peter’s escapades in this very garden and how after an unfortunate incident with water guns that were somehow filled with Monty’s experimental potions she had refused to babysit ever again, James shared how they actually managed to get a hold of those potions, Peter shared stories of young James jumping onto his back as Marlene chased him with a chicken in her hands as Marlene rolled in the grass adding odd tidbits and remarking just how much of troublesome children they were, Remus explained that he wasn’t surrounded by chaos like James, Marls, and Pete were, but he did run away from his parents in London once to go read in a big fancy library.
Everything was going smoothly, that is until the discussion got to Pandora who looked over at Evan and asked him if he remembered the time she pushed him off the swings and he had landed chin-first onto a stray garden rake, to which Evan laughed and added how, with a bleeding chin, he had decided to take his revenge on Dora and thrown rocks at her head. Cissa laughed and said it reminded her of the time she had stolen Bella’s makeup and had run away and climbed a tree to escape Bella’s wrath only for Bella to cut down the tree with Cissa still in it. To that, Andy added that when she used to babysit Reg and Sirius, they used to throw each other over the third floor railing and fall onto a couch on the first floor, climbing back up and doing that for hours. Laughing so hard he had to clutch his stomach, Sirius said that at least then they had been getting along and asked Reg if he remembered the time they snuck out of their summer home in France his last summer before Hogwarts and tried to hot-wire and steal a muggle car, only for Sirius to somewhat succeed, press the gas and roll straight over Reg’s feet then stall the vehicle on his toes. At that Reg grumbled an acknowledgment and was about to sulk when he was cut off by Bella’s roaring laughter saying that she had once gotten run over by Andy who was trying to drive their parents’ boat and nearly drowned because of it around the same time.
As the Black-Rosier cousins reminisced about their strangely endearing childhood stories, their loved ones exchanged befuddled, slack-jawed looks that fell somewhere between disbelief and fear. And it was at that very moment that they simply accepted the fact that their friends and partners had somehow even worse, more confusing childhoods than they had previously thought, but that it wasn’t any use commenting on it when they were rolling on the ground laughing at how they had nearly all mutually murdered each other before even attending Hogwarts.
(Context: I hc Pandora as Evan’s cousin, and since Druella is canonically a Rosier by blood, this makes the Black sisters big cousins to both Sirius and Regulus as well as Evan and Pandora. And with the intertwined nature of the sacred 28, I hc that they all grew up quite close to one another, whether blood-related or not)

school supplies I think the marauders would have:
James: he has a notebook for each subject and tries to stay organized but never does it. he also only buys one folder so everything ends up getting lost.
Remus: chronically unprepared. he brings a notebook, maybe and a pen. He still gets the information.
Sirius: also always unprepared. brings a sketchbook and a pencil. no one knows if he's writing down what he's supposed to or just drawing, or both.
Peter: has a big bag with everything you could ever need it in. he always has snacks and medication in their for his friends and a deck of cards for if he gets bored. he stays decently organized but should really invest in a planner
Regulus: buys the most unnecessarily expensive stuff, doesn't let any of it go to waste though. always has spares for his friends. Brings a coffee to school every day
Marlene: buys the cheapest school supplies she can find. it's usually falling apart by the end of the year. she doesn't care at all. she would rather invest her money in other stuff. brings an energy drink every day
Mary: spends the extra money for the cute designs on notebooks, buys planners and binders that she won't need because she gets excited. everything is aestheticly pleasing
Lily: super overprepared. the only person smart enough to use a planner. everything is super neat and everything has a place, super overprepared but doesn't have anything she wouldn't use.
Dorcas: tote bag girly, they have the bare minimum of what they would need for class. they also carry Marlene stuff in her tote bag because she doesn't carry a bag
Evan: has plenty of notebooks and whatever else he needs. He has so much unnecessary stuff that he thinks is funny. Always distracted by his stuff.
Barty: hates notebooks. buys a binder with dividers and writes on sheets of paper instead. always taking notes whether or required or not. him and Evan go over what he wrote later to make sense of it.

how the lily’s react to you having a nightmare
warnings: none <3
nora montgomery
nora woke up to the sound of quiet sobs coming from the other side of the bed. she put her hand on your back, making you cry harder. "oh darling, what's the matter?" she turns you over on your back to see you teary red face. she sadly smiled at you and wiped your eyes, pressing a kiss to your cheek. "you left me. please don't ever leave me." you got a tight hold on her shirt. "oh honey, i'm not leaving anytime soon. i love you so much. you're okay." she reassured you, making you start to cry again, but nora calmed you down before you started sobbing. "don't you worry about me leaving sweetheart, i'm right here."
sister mary eunice
mary felt jolt out of your sleep, instantly going to your need. "hey, hey, hey, shhh, calm down baby." she touched foreheads with you, this was a thing that mary did to help you calm down. "it's not real baby, remember? it's just a nightmare. i won't leave you okay?" you nodded and laid back on the pillows, sniffling a bit. she laid back as well, lifting you up and onto her, you putting your head in the crook of her neck. "i love you, okay. now get some rest. she kissed you on the forehead.
misty day
misty heard you whimpering in your sleep, so she tried waking you up gently, trying not to startle you even more. "baby, baby wake up." you woke up sweaty and hyperventailating. "hey sugar, it's just me baby. it's okay." she brushed your eyebrows back with her thumbs, trying to bring you back to reality. "can you feel me baby?" you nod, stuffing your face in your girlfriend's soft hair. "i'm right here." "m-mistyy." you whined as the scary images flashed in your head. that was one hell of a nightmare. "shhh, i know honey." she whispered into your hair, before kissing your temple. she spooned from behind and whispered sweet "i love you's" before you drifted off to sleep.
shelby miller
"y/n? baby, baby wake up." shelby jumped out of her slumber to you unconsiously crying. "y/n, wake up please." she coaxes you out of sleep gently, trying not to scare you more than you already were. "hey, it's all over now. it was just a dream, honey." she moved a strand of hair from your eyes and wiped your tears. "y-y-you died. at roanoke." you sobbed. "you died in the house." shelby teared up, but instantly recovered. she had to be strong for you right now. "but sweetheart, i'm right here, with you in bed. see, you're touching me." your hold around her arm got stronger. "i'm here with you, baby." she pressed a soft kiss to your lips.
rachel stevens
rachel wouldn't even realize you had startled awake and left the room to get some water until she heard a knock on her office door. when she saw your red and puffy eyes, she’d pull you into the room and sit you down in her chair. "honey, you know i wouldn't let anything hurt you." you nodded and smiled. “now get up outta my chair, i need to finish grading these. but you can sit on my lap.” she offered, and you took it. the sound of her typing and her pen scribbling sent you fast asleep.
sylvia steineitz
sylvia shakes you awake and makes you some hot chocolate immediately, it always calms her down so she's doing everything she can think of to help you. she thinks about calling grace to see what she would do but decides that she could do this all by herself. no one knew you as well as she did. she gives you your favorite snacks and candy as you try to recall what happened. "don't ever be afraid to tell me what happens in your dreams sweetheart. i'll always listen. i love you, okay?" you nod and she smiles, kissing your forehead.
emma hall
“emma. please.” you cried, shaking your girlfriend awake. emma isn't a stranger to nightmares. when you wake up and you're panting for breath she doesn't say anything, she just holds you and kisses your neck as you start to relax, smelling the vanilla yet piney scene that you've come to love. “it’s alright little one, i’ve got you.” she takes of her hoodie and puts it on your shivering body. “you’re so pretty.” she whispers before kissing your nose. you blushed at the compliment. she had her arms wrapped around you and she doesn't let go the whole night.

Marauders Dietary/Food Headcanons:
CW/TW: food/relationships with food
(Because I had a random idea and now I’m running with it)
Lily Evans:
- Has been vegetarian basically her whole life
- She did go Vegan for a few years but didn’t keep it up (partially because she missed honey so much)
- Lily loves to cook and create her own recipes
Dorcas Meadowes:
- Suffers from Celiac so they eat gluten free
- They love to bake, they never buy bread from a store
- Dorcas also always brings a plate of food or a treat to share when they visit someone else’s home, always keeping people’s dietary requirements in mind
Sirius Black:
- Surprisingly to some, Sirius is actually not to shabby in the kitchen, he prefers to just help but can make a few dishes quite easily
- Prefers sweets to chocolate, and is a sweet tooth
- Loves seafood, particularly mussel (oysters)
Remus Lupin:
- He was anaemic when he was younger so now he eats red meat at least once a week
- Can follow a recipe… most of the time, but would much rather get takeout than cook for himself
- Remus is also a big comfort eater
Marlene McKinnon:
- Vegan and a big lover of oat milk
- Cannot cook for the life of her, except pancakes, they are her one specialty
- They’re allergic to nuts
Mary Macdonald:
- Is intolerant to a fair amount of foods as she suffers from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
- Gets moody when she’s hungry and even more moody when she gets bloated (as a result of IBS)
- Her random talent is making the best sandwiches, all of her friends often beg her to make them sandwiches
Peter Pettigrew:
- Is lactose intolerant (I know, ironic) not severely so he sometimes has dairy products anyways
- Has always hated vegetables, loves fruit but can barely stand most vegetables
- Has an amazing sense of smell when it comes to food and is a pretty good cook (totally not ratatouille vibes shh)
James Potter:
- Okay hear me out, he hates red meat. Cannot stand it but he does like chicken and other white meats
- Enjoys cooking and can make some pretty good stuff, every now and then he may go overboard with experimentations, especially different herbs and spices
- Has always wanted to try seafood like crab and shrimp but unfortunately he has a shellfish allergy
Alice Fortescue:
- Is obsessed with breakfast foods, it’s her favourite mealtime ever
- Is good at cake decorating, often teams up with Dorcas
- Alice is also one of those people who often fills their days so much that she forgets to eat sometimes which is part of the reason she never leaves without having had a good breakfast
Andromeda Black:
- AMAZING cook, can bake as well. Honestly just a wiz in the kitchen but never accepts help from anyone because she likes to be in control without distraction when she’s cooking
- She’s not a fan of pastries, she’ll have cake and brownies on occasion but she’s never loved pastries
- She definitely gave cooking lessons at one point in her life
Regulus Black:
- His secret food pleasure is olives, they don’t even need to be with anything he’ll eat them straight out of the jar sometimes
- Has a few different allergies including egg, soy and peanuts
- Never really tried cooking before until he turned 17
Frank Longbottom:
- Great at cooking and loves to do it, flipping pancakes and spinning pizza dough are his favourite thing to do
- His favourite food is Fish and Chips, it’s so plain but he adores it
- Frank loves diversity and when he and Alice would travel he would always explore new cuisines, he loves almost everything he tries
Ted Tonks:
- Always carries toffee with him, Andy always teases him that he’s like an old grandpa, he doesn’t mind
- Is probably one of the least picky eaters you’ll ever meet. Seriously he’ll eat anything
- His all time favourite food is Dino nuggets because it brings out his inner child, that and they’re easy enough for him to make when Andromeda is too tired to cook
Narcissa Black:
- Another vegetarian, stopped eating meat around the age of 9 by herself (meaning her family were not vegetarian)
- Had an unhealthy relationship with food for most of her teenage years but she slowly learned to love it and herself again
- She’s always had a soft spot for eclairs
Kingsley Shacklebolt:
- Very tolerant to spicy food, he would always have competitions with people, James was the only person who ever came close to beating him
- Not technically food but he was an avid tea drinker, he and Remus would always drink tea together
- Kingsley was also that person who would rarely have snacks or packaged food, he would always have proper meals that he cooked
Side note: these are just some of my personal opinions and headcanons! Everyone has their own, please be respectful <3

Chapter 16: Everything Goes According to Plan
❉───────•~❉•᯽•❉~•───────❉
January 30th, 1976
“Where’s my camera?”
“Be careful — Oi! Don’t step on me!”
“Ouch!”
“Shush!”
The squeaking of floorboards creaked throughout the small room as everyone kept on stumbling into each other, all fidgeting from excitement. That morning, they’d all woken up earlier than usual, decorating the room with streamers, leftover Christmas decor and a large banner that hung above the entrance of the doorway that read, Happy Birthday, Petals! (which was Y/N’s idea — she was very proud of the nickname). Even Mary snuck into their dorm, making everyone wear small pointy party hats as they huddled around Lily’s bed, circling her like vultures and raised their hands high. With a quiet count of three from Marlene, their hands lowered, hovering over Lily’s arms and legs, then shook.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” They bellowed.
Lily woke with a jolt; her eyes flew open as she let out a scream. Her back slammed against the bed frame while Toulouse swiped at them, specifically at Marlene and hissed.
Lily’s heart hammered against her chest and she felt the small prickles of needles subside all over her body. Her hand clutched her nightgown, attempting to even out her breathing. “You could’ve given me a heart attack!”
“Happy birthday, Lils!” Mary repeated before climbing into her bed, hugging her.
She grunted at the impact as a smile replaced her features. Her eyes hopped from person to person before landing on Y/N who gave a sweet smile which had Lily blushing as she averted her eyes back to Mary.
When the group realized that Lily’s birthday fell on a weekend, it left them giddy and beyond excited for the endless opportunities that lay ahead of them. Not only did it leave the entire group to have a small break from their ruthless studying, but they could thoroughly celebrate the day and have enough time to spare for any last-minute plans for the surprise birthday party that night.
“Get your arse up and get ready to start the day!” Marlene declared, already trying to tug her crimson blanket away.
Lily yawned, rubbing her eyes, “Do we have to? I’m tired…”
“Come on! Life is short! It’s time we make memories,” she cried, “You never know when you’re going to die! Would you rather celebrate your birthday as a ghost or six feet under?! I, for one, will not visit your grave.”
Lily rolled her eyes, getting up with a stretch. Dorcas moved to turn on Marlene’s record player, settling a record by Nancy Sinatra as everyone continued with their usual morning routines. Lily got dressed in her favourite long sleeve lilac dress, pulling on tights to prevent herself from freezing. Mary wore her usual gold eyeshadow and wore a red jumpsuit while Marlene dressed coolly in all black. Although, Dorcas decided to stay in bed, still recovering from her nasty flu.
“You look very pretty today,” Y/N told Lily while detangling her hair from the loose braid she had it in. She took a brush and hair styler, primping her hair to Lily’s usual style and placed a headband in her hair.
“I — I, er — thanks!” She replied somewhat flustered.
“No… problem — there! Finished!” She handed Lily a handheld mirror, letting her go over her appearance. Pleased, she turned around to the group.
“So, first order of business, what did you want to do today?” Dorcas asked before going into a fit of coughs. Marlene rushed up to her side and popped off a cork from a nearby potion for her to drink.
Everyone had been slightly worried. It had been four days now and Dorcas still wasn’t recovering from the flu despite the ad of magic and potions. Thankfully today she seemed to perk up, even just a little, but they worried she was pushing herself.
“How about we just stay here, with you? We can all up a Healer and —”
“No,” Dorcas coughed again, she waved her hands in front of her, “I’ll be fine. Don't worry about me. What do you want to do?”
Lily remained quiet for a moment and Y/N assumed she was going to suggest staying in their dorm with Dorcas again, but her eyes gleamed with unusual mischief. Her eyes hopped from person to person before landing on Y/N. “I want to do a prank and I think you’ll love it.”
Everyone’s brows rose. Lily, the goodie-two-shoes prefect, Evans and pranks?! Those two do not belong in the same sentences.
“Okay…” said Mary, nodding her head despite being confused, “We’re listening.”
Lily sat down on her bed, crossing one leg over the other as she motioned everyone to sit. “Do you think it’s possible if we can dye someone’s hair? Obviously, safely,” she used her prefect voice, “But do you think we can?”
A beat went by — that was strangely out of character. What happened to the Lily they knew?
“Yeah,” Marlene begins, “What colour are you thinking?”
“Orange — bright orange with a bit of green.”
Then, Lily turned over to look at her again, a ghost of a smile appearing that told Y/N that whatever she was planning was going to be worth it — especially if Lily out of all people, was going to pull it off.
“Someone's going to be sorry for calling me Carrots.”
❉───────•~❉•᯽•❉~•───────❉
At breakfast, they arrived later than usual after they all planned out their prank. Marlene, who had been a part of too many pranks with Sirius and James, helped the most, while Y/N and Lily created a hair-changing potion using one of Dorcas’ old cauldrons — but unlike James, they stuck to a potions textbook with a reversal potion. Since it was Lily’s idea, she would be the one to slip the potion into Sirius’ drink. So, she tucked the vital into the sleeve of her dress, hidden from prying eyes.
They all huddled around her as they entered the Great Hall; their hands were pushed forward protectively, guarding Lily as if she were a celebrity being swarmed by adoring fans and they were her bodyguards. They paved her way from students while shouting:
“She’s declining photos at the moment!”
“Birthday girl coming through!”
“She’s a very busy lady! Out of the way!”
Lily kept on protesting for them to stop, hiding her face in her hands. As they reached their table, they sat beside the marauders while Lily made sure to take a seat next to Sirius. But, that wasn’t the end of Lily’s humiliation. Mary stood up, clapping to gain everyone’s attention. Once she realized what was about to happen she quickly got up, but Y/N and Sirius clapped a hand on Lily’s shoulder, shoving her back down on the bench.
They opened their mouths, singing,
“Haaaaapppppy birthday to you!” The six of them hollered before the rest of the hall caught on and started singing. “Haaaaapppppy birthday to you! Haaaaapppppy birthday dear Lily —” “CARROTS! Shouted Sirius at the top of his lungs.
Lily kept shaking her head, blushing incredibly hard — even the tips of her ears started to turn pink. She covered her ears, attempting to muffle out the singing.
Y/N snapped a few photos of her, shoving them into her pockets.
“Haaaaapppppy birthhhhdaaaay tooooo youuuuuuuu!”
The Gryffindors and any Ravenclaws or Hufflepuffs that knew Lily cheered loudly. A few teachers, like Slughorn or McGonagall, made their way over to her, congratulating her along with a few other of her friends from different houses. Well wishes could be heard, along with a few people even handing her cards too.
Even an owl came swooping by when she had her back turned, dropping off a small package addressed from her parents and her sister, Petunia.
Swarmed and distracted, this left the group to huddle together as they leant over the table, forming a small circle of sorts. James was excluded as he sat back and drank a cup of tea flicking through the Daily Prophet.
“Operation: Lily’s birthday party,” said Marlene, “Let’s go over what our positions are for tonight.”
Mary was assigned with Dorcas to decorate the common room while Remus distracted Lily tonight during their rounds. Marlene and Sirius were in charge of drinks and snacks, leaving Peter and Y/N to bake a cake and bring any additional food.
They all quickly pulled apart once the crowd around Lily subsided. She settled back down, nodding and faking a cough. This signalled to the girls as Marlene quickly roped Sirius into a conversation about a New-Maj band he liked; Y/N talked to James about the upcoming Ravenclaw and Slytherin Quidditch match which left Mary to distract both Peter and Remus.
When none of the marauders were looking, Lily popped the corkscrew from the vital and grabbed a bowl of muffins on Sirius’ left. While she lent over, the potion poured directly into Sirius’ cup and she sat back down, smirking to herself. Y/N gave a discreet small high-five to her as they waited.
After a few minutes, parched from his talk with Marlene, Sirius picked up his goblet and tipped back the drink. He took a large gulp, wincing at the taste as he pulled it away from his face, but returned to his conversation like normal.
For several minutes, nothing happened. The girls kept quickly glancing upwards to check out his hair, but nothing: still bleached blond. They sighed, dejected that their plan hadn’t worked and Y/N nudged Lily underneath the table and gave a small smile, trying to cheer her up.
Another ten minutes went by and only then did the root of Sirius’ hair begin to tint into a bright orange colour rather than his dyed hair. This caught the girl's attention, however, the rest of the marauders who were still engaged in their conversations, did not notice as their heads were turned away from him.
His hair rapidly turned into orange as the tips were tinted green. Sirius didn’t seem to notice until James laughed, quickly turning to him to tell him a joke until his eyes widened at his hair.
“Ugh — Padfoot?!”
Sirius looked at him bewildered at his worried tone and expression before catching his reflection in James’ glasses. By now, Peter and Remus looked at him, their eyes widened, leaving the girls to force down their laughter, showing false concern.
“What the fuck?!” Sirius exclaimed, running a hand through it. She’d never seen Sirius this panicked before. More than anything, he looked shocked and even a bit… happy? No — definitely not happy. He continued to chuckle nervously before fretting over his appearance. For once, his laughter did not bother her.
Students began to take notice, pointing over at the Gryffindor table while some even began gossiping with others about the prank. As soon as the bell rang, everyone got up from their seats while the marauders surrounded Sirius, trying to help him out. The girls, on the other hand, got up and ran out of the Great Hall, practically howling.
“Oh my god! I can’t believe I just did that! I did that! We did that!” Lily exclaimed in disbelief before taking a seat down at their usual hangout near the library. “Did you see his reaction?! Jeez! I see why they pull so many pranks now!”
Y/N was about to burst into tears. That was by far the funniest shit she’d ever seen before. Marlene was in a similar boat as she clutched her side. Her stomach hurt from how hard she laughed.
“Lily! You little minx!” Mary cried as flopped beside Lily, her head dropping into her lap.

Their day was jammed packed. They went skating on the black lake, hit up the library, walked around school grounds which ended up in a huge snowball fight. After a bit, they decided to take a moment to separate themselves to give each other a bit of space while Lily went to find Snape.
This left the rest of the group two hours tops to themselves.
Y/N walked over to Honeydukes, buying a bunch of Jelly Slugs and a couple of other things before dashing back to the castle; she needed to wrap all of her presents and she promised to help Dorcas wrap hers too.
Before she entered Hogwarts again, Y/N took a moment to herself and enjoyed the small moment of peace around her. The soft crunching of snow, the cold breeze and the stillness — how quiet it was — there was hardly a moment since the break that Y/N had felt the comfortable peace Hogwarts had to offer.
Stepping inside the corridors, the atmosphere suddenly changed with the torches ablaze and a constant bubbling ambience that never seemed to settle.
In the distance, to her right, she could hear distant shouting and a rush of footsteps nearing. Out of nowhere, James seemed to come barreling towards her.
“Whiskers!” He yelled, sending her a fast wink as he continued to run down the corridor, making a sharp turn. Then, Marlee popped out, dashing after James.
“Marls?! What’s happening?”
“Running from Filch — get him off my trail!”
“What did you do?!”
“Told me to cover up, so I hexed him — Potter called him a rent boy!”
“Are you going to miss the party?” She yelled as Marlene’s body kept getting smaller and smaller as she ran. Y/N began to panic, without Marlene, surely things would take a lot longer than planned.
“Like hell I am! I won’t be late!”
Marlene disappeared, shortly being replaced by Filch who ran in a strange mixture of running and hopping.
“Where did they go?” He breathed, bending down and clutching his knees. “I heard them over here, where are they?”
And so Y/N decided to have some fun. “Who?”
“You know!”
“Um — you mean the one with blond hair?” “And the boy with black hair!”
“Oh! Yes, I know who… What’re their names again? Severus Snape and —” she paused, trying to think of another blond person, “Ugh — Sirius Black?”
Well, he used to be blond.
“No! The Potter boy and McKinnon! Where are they?!”
“Hmm… Oh! Oh! I think they went,” she pointed outside to the thick, cold snowy path, “That way!”
Filch didn’t even question her and ran off. Laughing, Y/N ran away from Filch; the last thing she wanted to do was face his wrath once he knew she lied.
Opening the door to her dorm, Dorcas was asleep. She walked up to grab a nearby folded blanket and placed it over her body to keep her warm before starting working.
She cleared off a table, unfolding her wrapping paper and wrapped the sides before creasing them, taping everything down with a pretty bow.
❉───────•~❉•᯽•❉~•───────❉
Nobody had seen Marlene or James for the past couple of hours — they’d even skipped dinner which caused everyone to go into a state of panic. Without Marlene, Sirius would be in a lot of trouble completing his task alone.
The common room was filled with fighting in hushed whispers as Lily and Remus were set to leave for their rounds in a couple of minutes.
“I’m going to kill her,” Mary fumed, “The one day they’re not supposed to go mucking around, they pull this!”
“How about we find them —” “And lose the little time we have now?”
Sirius, in particular, was on edge, aggravated, as he turned towards Y/N, “Why didn’t you think of saying anything sooner?”
“Because I didn’t think Marlene and James would be stupid enough to get caught! Not today!”
He closed his mouth, his lips pressed into a tight line. Even he hadn’t expected them to be that stupid either — not today.
“Everyone, shut up. All of you! Why don’t we take a moment to breathe?” Remus said calmly, effectively shutting the entire group up. In moments like these, Y/N understood why he was a prefect. He breathed in and looked to Sirius, “You can do this by yourself, can you?”
“Course not, Moony. Have a little faith in me!” Sirius gave a tenacious laugh, although forced.
Remus’ eyes then flicker to Y/N and Peter, “This shouldn’t affect you, will it?”
They shook their heads.
“Okay then, we’ll continue as planned. I’ll buy you as much time as —” He quickly cut himself off as everyone’s ears perked up. They all heard it, Lily’s footsteps. With that, Y/N, Sirius and Peter weaved their way out of the common room, walking quickly to avoid Lily and Remus from catching up to them. Unfortunately, Sirius took the invisibility cloak before she or Peter had the time to ask for it.
They sneakily made their way down a flight of moving stairs, passing several empty corridors and made their way down to the kitchens.
Once they began working on Lily’s cake, Y/N instantly knew why Peter was assigned to the kitchens.
He instructed her most of the time, telling her which ingredients or utensils to find. Currently, she grabbed a metal ladle and watched as Peter churn the ingredients, watching as they blend into a seamless, smooth mixture. She sat back most of the time, baking and cooking was never something she was great at.
Y/N rifled through the cabinets, searching for a cake tin. “Ah-hah! Found some!”
They were heart-shaped, rather than the usual circular ones. She placed them onto the counter before turning her attention to grease the pans and focus on making a couple of sandwiches.
“So,” she started, trying to make small talk, “Where’d you learn to bake so well?”
Peter went pink as he wordlessly flicked his wand; the cake tin and floated it into one of the pre-heated ovens and turned to make the frosting. “Erm — it was James’ mum, Euphemia, who taught me. She’s a great baker — honestly she’s good at everything.
“James and I grew up close to each other; we’re childhood friends. He never did fancy baking — liked cooking more and I felt bad he never wanted to help out Euphemia. So one day I offered to help and now whenever I’m at their house, I help around — like a tradition — and I do it in my spare time now. Helps clear my head.”
Just then, two house-elves popped in, each holding a cup of tea for each student. Y/N gave her thanks while Peter turned to talk to them, making them laugh and asking questions that seemingly were a follow-up from a previous conversation. A light dust of flour scattered the side of his cheek while he smiled with them. The more he spoke with the elves, the more Y/N grew fascinated.
Out of all the marauders, even beating out Sirius and James who were amongst the most popular students at Hogwarts, Peter was the most liked out of all of them, especially amongst her friend group.
He wasn’t James who at times was a bit too much and talked an awful lot. He wasn’t Sirius who was dramatic, nor was he Remus who was quiet and intimidating. Peter was just Peter — who was a bit skittish, insanely good at Wizard’s chess, bold enough to sneak into the Slytherin's common room all by himself and loved to bake, clearly was in the kitchens often enough to have full-blown conversations with the elves when most people would so much as spit on before walking away.
It spoke volumes of his character, especially since he was from a Pureblood family; bound to grow up entitled and look down to his inferiors.
She noticed Peter had quite a lot of friends, mostly women, always seeming willing to help someone in dire need whether it be listening, giving advice or comforting another person. It only made her recollect the time Peter had engaged in small conversations with her, seeking to make her feel more included. Like that one time he’d mentioned the Holy Harpies. Small, ostensibly insignificant, but contemplating it now; he'd been trying to make her comfortable — settled — welcoming her with open arms into his group; into the marauders and the girls.
Within moments, there was a newfound appreciation towards the boy.
The sandwiches they made, along with pork pies stolen, were stuffed into a bag, ready to be transported. Y/N boredly spun her wand between the length of her finger while Peter whirled around in his seat until the ring of the timer went off. The elves were already gone, zipped away into thin air as they grew tired with sleep.
Placing a cooling spell onto the cake to avoid the icing from melting off, Peter began layering on a thin layer of icing.
“What’s Lily’s favourite colour? Is it still purple?” He asked. Y/N gave a curt nod.
“Never been a fan of purple. One time I walked into my Grandmum’s room, she only wore purple knickers for my Grandad. Makes me shiver all the time — honestly, the woman traumatized me. S’pose it might be my Boggart.”
Peter also had a sense of humour.
While diligently working, she marvelled at his creation. A two-layer heart-shaped cake, decorated all in light purple icing covered the surface before Peter piped small designs and swirls onto it.
“Wow. I feel like I can barely hold my wand at times yet you —”
“My, my — what do we have here? Students out of bed?” A voice came from behind them. “Tut, tut, tut.”
The two craned their heads backwards where Peeves smiled and let out a squeal of delight.
“Peeves,” Peter began politely. He slowly set down his piping bag and put his hands up in a submissive, yet defensive manner, as if he’d encountered a feral animal. “Please — please, we’re doing something for a dear friend. Don’t get us thrown out.”
“What would happen if I told Filch about you,” the ghost responded in a saintly voice, but his eyes glimmered wickedly. He brought a finger to the side of his face, tapping his index finger to his cheek, thinking.
“What to do, what to do…”
“Psst, Pete, what’s happening?”
Nobody answered her. With Sirius gone with the cloak, it left her and Peter completely out in the open wishlist a ghost threatening them — not to mention the lie she told Filch earlier, there was no way she nor Peter were going to get out of this unscathed.
“Please,” he pleaded.
She looked at him, wide-eyed and started panicking. She repeated louder, “What’s happening? What do we do?”
Peeves then grinned largely and started doing large loops into the air. His cackling rang through the empty corridors, becoming progressively louder.
“Shit. Run.”
“STUDENTS OUT OF BED IN THE HALLWAY! I REPEAT, THERE ARE STUDENTS OUT OF BED IN THE HALLWAY BY THE KITCHENS!”
Peter grabbed the cake while Y/N swiped the bag filled with the rest of the food, piping bags and a small jar of edible decor. They ducked under Peeves, dashing out of the kitchens leaving a huge mess for the unfortunate elves to clean up the next morning.
Peeves floated behind them slowly as he watched them run. Peter ran slower, trying to make sure he didn’t face plant into the cake while Y/N urged him to run faster.
“He usually helps us,” Peter grits out, “But he’s a two-faced git! Never trust him unless you’re doing a prank! Never!”
Just then, Peter lost his footing and tripped over his feet, letting out a half-shriek, mixing in with Peeves’ evil laughter. They sucked in a sharp breath, watching as the cake flew through the air but Y/N, quick on her feet, grabbed her wand, casting a quick non-verbal charm and watched as the cake and plate froze mid-air before the plate clanked down first, the cake following and settling ontop. She ran up to it, cradling and wrapping a protective arm around it to prevent the cake from dropping again. She called out for Peter to get up before he took the cake again, this time with a shout from Y/N to not drop it, before leading her into a secret passway down the corridor.
Peeves could be heard laughing maniacally down the hall before they both could hear Filch’s footsteps running towards his shouts.
Peter maneuvered through the passage while Filch’s voice became more and more distant as they continued to hurriedly walk. Lily and Remus’ shift was going to end soon and it would be a lost cause if they didn’t make it up to the common room.
They both turned sharply, about to exit before Y/N crashed into a shadowy figure, tripping but being caught swiftly by the figure. They cradled her head to keep her from falling, but the sudden scare caused both students to open their mouths to scream, loudly.
“It’s me! It’s me!” Sirius’ familiar voice runs out, waving a hand to shush Peter while the other was still on her back. Y/N felt herself relax and erratic heartbeat to calm. She’d never been so happy to see Sirius before. Until she realized that they were still touching and they both ripped away.
Her heart spiked, and she felt oddly light headed. Soon enough, her eyes then immediately went to his hair and held back from chuckling — perhaps right now was not the time.
“I came once I heard people shouting and I figured it was you two. You okay?” His eyes darted to her at the last part.
Perhaps her eyes tricked her, that she was too tired or bumping into Sirius too hard, but it felt like he’d been making sure if she was alright. Since when did Sirius care? Although, Peter didn’t seem to notice or he’d ignored the interaction entirely.
“F-fine,” he wheezed out, “Peeves… Peeves caught us while we were decorating the cake. We’re not done yet.”
“What time is it?” She asked.
Sirius placed his wand in his mouth while pulling out a silver pocket watch from his trousers. “Ten to ten.”
“We have time then.”
Peter placed the cake down gently on a nearby ledge in the passage, causing Sirius to cast Lumos. Sirius kept a watch out, his head moving from side to side every so often as he listened for anyone or anything walking past them.
Pulling out the icing bags and sprinkles, Peter began to finish his work. He continued to create flowers as Y/N wrote on the cake (although with help from her wand), ‘Happy 16th Birthday, Lily!’ and then placed a couple of candles around.
As Peter continued to add his small touches, Y/N’s eyes drifted around, not landing on anything in particular but zoned in on the shining of Sirius’ rings. Her eyes slowly drifted upwards, studying him. The remainder of the full moon that recently passed spilled a muted milky light onto the stone floor and touched Sirius’ face. He wasn’t wearing his normal school robes but dressed in Muggle clothing. Black jeans, a nice sweater, notable messy hair and his body language was relaxed. This Sirius was tolerable, likeable even. She liked this Sirius — but perhaps it was because he finally wasn’t talking. This Sirius gave her an insight into what he was like aside from his annoying, bitchy self. Loose, wild, messy in an elegant way, confident — in his prime — looking for a thrill, sneaking around; mischief.
Suddenly, Sirius’ wand went out as he ducked down, huddling beside her and Peter.
“What —”
They met each other’s eyes, locking, as he brought a finger up to his lips which made her flicker down to look at them, quickly.
Their eye contact was brief, so brief, nonetheless, it contained a flurry of emotions too complicated for Y/N to process.
But being up close for those brief seconds, she was able to examine him — truly, for the first time. Her eyes traced over the singular scar on his face, hidden by his hair that made her wonder where he’d gotten it from. Soon the questions enclosed her mind like an overflowing river.
His small, unexpected gesture had been one of many which had been nicer and oddly thoughtful recently.
Sirius’ brain was written in cryptic code — so advanced and intertwined — too complicated for her to understand. She wanted to understand his actions.
Even if she didn’t like to admit it, Sirius had a depth that greatly attracted her. She had so many unanswered questions.
And since her brain ran a mile a minute, her emotions weren’t filled with that annoyance of ranger — no, for once she didn’t feel any kind of resentment towards him.
Maybe it was because they both had one goal in mind: Lily’s party and that working against each other during something as high stakes like this would fail a good friend of theirs. Or maybe it was that instead of her or him starting something — or maybe — maybe it was because the boy was so close to her, closer than they ever had been before. Or maybe it was the adrenaline that set every fibre of her being on fire — making her feel like honey-dipped in tea — or the odd thunderous throbbing of her heat spiking suddenly; Y/N grew warm all over.
It didn’t help that Sirius didn’t look angry either, but rather a sudden cognizance filled his gaze, looking both shocked and calm.
But quickly, she just chalked up her flurry of emotions to adrenaline or wanting to hex him — either worked.
For Sirius, he felt utter disdain as his gaze fixated on her. He was tempted to flicker down to her lips but her eyes, bright and filled with glittery stars, were enchanting. It scorned him — made his heart beat in an iambic pentameter, creating its own sonnet that would make even the most accomplished poets jealous.
He wanted to refuse her presence. Wanted to focus on anything but her.
But Sirius was a weak man. He failed. He always did.
Their eyes ripped away and they heard the familiar sound of footsteps and voices neared them as they spotted the familiar red hair and tall figure.
Their voices were slightly muffled.
“— times have changed! You aren’t a second year anymore.” Lily chimed while they walked.
Remus shook his head, instead of flicking his wand as a dozen torches lit up in mere seconds. “Whatever you say, Red.”
She swatted at his shoulder while Remus ruffled her hair, his smiling becoming genuine.
“Seriously, I support it.
“Merlin, Evans — it’s not going to happen. Look at me!”
“Not with that attitude and you look more than fine!”
Peter shifted his eight onto his other foot which made an audible scuffle. However, it was so quiet that neither she nor Sirius caught on but Remus, whose head swirled in their direction, did. He took a deep inhale, a look in his eyes, confusion melting into realization — there and gone — as if he knew they were there despite being hidden by the shadows of the night. He turned his head once more and started walking faster while Lily skipped down, trying to catch up to him.
Remus Lupin was an odd one alright.
Nobody moved until they were positive they were gone.
The entire night had been a shitshow.
“Okay,” Sirius exhaled, he felt his entire body tense up, “Let’s get out of here.”
“Do you think the cake is okay?” Y/N asked Peter as Sirius tossed the invisibility cloak over their bodies, hiding them from onlookers.
“Bloody well hope so,” he grunted, “We didn’t get caught almost three times, freeze our arse, almost get a month's detention, and probably destroyed the kitchen for it not to be great.”
Without another word, they made their way back to the common room where everyone made a fuss about how late they were. Quickly, Peter placed any last-minute designs, Mary handed everyone small party horns, Dorcas put up last-minute balloons while Y/N and Sirius helped each other layout all the snacks and drinks — this time, civilly.
“God… How’d you even get this much? Me and Peter were in the kitchens and we couldn’t even get half of what you got.”
At this, Sirius smirked before collapsing into the plush velvet couch behind him, an exhausted sigh as he sank further in. But as soon as the smirk was there, it was gone as everyone heard the clicking of the portrait open.
“Hide — HIDE!”
All the lights were blown out as they all hid behind the couches — they heard quiet footsteps — someone shuffling towards the middle — footsteps getting louder — louder — and —
Sirius lit the entire room as they all sprung up and Y/N quickly held her camera to her face and snapped a photo as everyone shouted,
“SUPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHD —” “Godric fucking Gryffindor!”
“... I’m going to KILL YOU MCKINNON! POTTER!”
Everyone groaned in disappointment at James and Marlene’s arrival before they heard the faint sounds of footsteps outside of the portrait again. Mary yanked Marlene down, shoving her behind the couch along with forcing a party hat on her head and confetti in her hands. Sirius grabbed James by his red sweater and rushed him up the stairs before getting back into place.
“Told you,” Marlene whispered into her ear, “Wasn’t going to be late.”
The real Lily could be heard as she spoke excitedly with Remus. The portrait swung open — everyone waited before she stepped inside — they put most of their weight onto their toes, waiting to jump — Sirius’ wand was about to light up the room — Y/N held her camera — Dorcas and Marlene were going to throw up the confetti —
“Why is it so dark —”
“SUPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LILY!”
Light rushed back into the room and Lily’s face lit up brighter than the sun. Mountains of sweets were piled into bowls while a small table was lined with drinks. Sirius outdid himself, seemingly raiding Honeydukes; there was taffy, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, Chocolate Frogs, sherbet lemon, caldron cakes — plus the food Y/N and Peter had hauled from the kitchen; sandwiches, fruit, crisp (she made the mistake of saying chips in front of James and Marlene only to then be hassled by them for it) and pork pies.
ABBA played in the background, much to Remus’ demise as her purple cake sat in the middle on a table, all the candles lit. They all ushered Lily to blow out the candles while they all held wrapped gifts, cards and small gift bags.
“You didn’t need to do this!” Lily said, although there was a thankful look in her eyes, “This is too much! Thank you!”
“Anything for you, Evans!”
“You’re lucky we didn’t bring fireworks!” Marlene and Sirius grinned.
“You would have all gotten detention —” “Stop being a goody goody, not today, Lils!” Sirius slung his arm around the redhead.
Gifts went around; Lily had gotten so many cards from other teachers and students, handmade jewellery from Dorcas, Remus knit her a sweater with hearts, Mary and Marlene gave a joint gift, Peter bought her a small yet overly fancy tea set Lily had mentioned offhandedly before, Sirius gave her a first edition books she loved while Y/N gave her the gifts she bought from that old book store. Alice had even dropped by and given her a small package before heading back up for the night.
They all smiled widely at her and were thrilled to see her so happy. Y/N lifted her camera and took an abundance of photos throughout the entire night, before shoving them into the back pocket of her pants.
By the time everyone reluctantly returned to their dormitories, it was three o’clock in the morning and everyone was beyond tired, deciding it was time for bed.
“Night,” Dorcas called out. Marlene yawned loudly before falling into her bed, muttering out another round of happy birthdays to Lily. They were out the fastest — soft snores filling the room.
White specks seemed to blur through her vision as Y/N rubbed her tired eyes. She was about to call over to Lily, say goodnight, roll over and sleep before the creaking of her bed altered her to Lily padding her way to the bed. Y/N looked up at her, confused before scouting over for Lily to slip in, under her blankets.
“Are you okay, Petals?”
“Beyond perfect,” she replied with a wistful voice, “I’m so thankful. Thank you.”
Y/N chuckled, although she was a tad perplexed, “Y’know, it wasn’t just me who helped.”
“I know, but still. This birthday feels different from all the other ones I’ve had and I can’t help but think it’s also because of you.”
Lily Evans never ceased to amaze her. “Well, I hope you mean that in a good way,” she teased.
“Obviously!”
Silence fell around them before Toulouse hopped onto Y/N’s bed and settled himself between the two friends.
Y/N’s eyes wondered to the banner: petals... “What’s your favourite flower? Surely it’s not lilies, are they?”
Lily gave a small huff of amusement and shook her head, “No. Peonies or irises. What about yours?”
“I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll just say lilies for now.” She said absentmindedly before her eyes shot open. “Shit! I forgot —” Y/N reached over Lily and opened her drawer with the pouch of Jelly slugs before placing them into Lily’s hands. “Forgot to give you these.”
There was a soft look in Lily’s eyes and something Y/N couldn’t quite place. Her friend was acting quite strange.
“It feels like I’ve known you forever,” Lily says softly, her face flushed a rosy colour.
She stayed silent for a while, at a complete loss for words. Even a slight look of confusion crossed Lily’s face.
“Yeah, you too.”

Final Girl
Mary Macdonald’s favorite memories from Hogwarts were the weekly movie nights that her and her girls would do. She’d pick the movie (always a horror movie, always a slasher movie), Lily would set the projector up, and Dorcas and Marlene would bring the snacks. They used laugh and scream until the early hours of morning at these silly girls running from a killer. They’d scream at the screen for her to run or grab a weapon. Then when the killer was finally gone after pretending to be dead 2-3 times, they’d cheer for her. The main character. Always a girl, always pretty. The survivor out of all of her friends. The final girl. All of them would laugh at the fact that they’d never be stupid enough to be in a situation like that and that none of them would be final girls. They had magic and could handle themselves. It was partly true. Because years later, Dorcas was the first of them to fall. Not fall. The first of them to be murdered. Then Marlene came next. Not just Marlene but the McKinnons as well. And then Lily. Mary Macdonald heard about it over the news. She watched everyone around her celebrate while screamed and violently sobbed. Lily’s death protected Harry and killed Voldemort. Lily Evans death made Mary Macdonald a final girl.
She never watched a horror movie again. You watch a horror movie to escape real life but what do you do when real life is so much horrifying than a movie? The silly girls running from the masked killers on the screen were no match for the people in masks with tattoos on their arms that killed her friends and made her the final girl. 14 years later, Mary Macdonald dropped to the floor and sobbed until she couldn’t breathe anymore. She stared at the trembling newspaper in her hand that dictated Voldemort’s return. She should’ve known. She watched the slasher movies and she knew the rules. They never die the first time.

My gift to you, another prompt :) “I’m so madly and deeply in love with you, please call me back me so we can discuss this.”
read on AO3
It’s just another Saturday night when Lily finds herself at the pub with Dorcas. Marlene is off on a date with some bloke and Mary has found herself coupled up and spending her evening with her new beau.
“So, Lils, when are you gonna just admit it?” Dorcas asked before sucking down the last of her pint, glancing around at the bar to determine whether it was worth going to grab another one. Lily had the same thought as she took another drag from her own glass, knowing she was already three deep and heading down a dangerous road. Lily only gives her a raised eyebrow in response.
“Admit that you fancy the fuck out of James Potter,” Dorcas responds, properly interpreting Lily’s glance to mean what are you even talking about.
“Uh, let’s see... Probably about three weeks after hell freezes over, I think,” Lily retorts, gesturing to the bar in a way that indicates she expects her friend to buy the next round.
“So you’re saying it will happen?”
“Shut up and get me a beer, Dor.”
Dorcas walked away, leaving Lily to ponder over the question. Sure, James was fit and they had become good friends after two years of constant uni rivalry, but that didn’t change that she would never be accepting of a relationship with him.
Besides, he was out on a date tonight, she knew that for a fact. With that thought in mind, Lily gulped down the last of her drink, just in time for Dorcas to return with her next glass.
_________________________________________________
“Listen, Jamesy, listen. I don’t know what you’re doing. You’re probably with whatsherface, but I just... I don’t know. What am I even doing? What are we doing? Wait don’t answer that. I don’t want to know what you’re currently doing. Just... I’m so madly and deeply in love with you, please call me back so we can discuss this. Unless you don’t love me back, then delete this and forget that I ever called you. Mkay, well bye.”
James played the message three times before he tossed his phone beside him, grabbing the pillow and covering his face so he could scream into it.
He had a lovely evening with Fiona, but the night had ended with a hug and kiss on her cheek. He wasn’t even sure he wanted to ask her out on a second date. Sure it had been fun, but it wasn’t anything to write home about.
“Oi, mate, shut the fuck up, will ya?” Sirius burst into James’ room with his arms crossed, a murderous glare on his face. “It’s fuckin’ 7 in the morning.”
James said nothing, beckoning Sirius over with a wave of his hand, playing the voicemail for his best friend.
Sirius just looked confused by the end of it, smacking his friend by the back of the head.
“What’s the problem? The bird you’ve been in love with for the past three years finally admitted she feels the same way. If anything, you should be celebrating with confetti and champagne.”
“She was plastered! Bloody drunk out of her mind! She probably doesn’t even remember calling, but even if she did it was most definitely not a message she left on purpose!” James was up and pacing at this point, his hands continuously running through his hair.
“Oh fuck, just give her a call. Maybe in a few hours though. You’re right about one thing. Evans was drunk off her arse last night and is going to have a massive hangover.” Sirius laughed to himself as he left the room, letting the door shut behind him.
James sank down onto the bed and sent Lily a quick text before he laid back down. He needed at least another hour of sleep before he could handle this situation.
_________________________________________________
can i come over this afternoon? i’ll bring snacks. (i’m not really asking, see u later)
Lily laughed at James’ text before responding to him with a yes, then wincing at the dull throbbing in her head. She grabbed the aspirin that past-Lily had left out for her, gulping it down with half of the water bottle on her night stand and then moved to the bathroom so she could wash off the previous night’s grime.
The water rushed over her and she just thought over the previous night, until a line of thought about James Potter triggered her memories from the previous night.
“Fuck,” she muttered to herself, suddenly realizing that this afternoon held more weight than she originally thought.
_________________________________________________
“Hey, Evans, I’m here!” James walked into her flat as he normally did before realizing that he may not have that privilege anymore. Did last night change that?
“I’m in the kitchen, just heating the kettle. Just go set up on the couch and I’ll be in there in just a mo’.” Lily called to him through the doorway. She continued bustling about in the kitchen before she heard the door swing open and James was standing there, his hand in his hair and white t-shirt riding up slightly above his stomach.
Lily licked her lips before letting her gaze rise back to his face. She recognized something different in his eyes, but couldn’t say what exactly.
“Did you mean it?” he inquired, taking a few steps towards her until the door closed behind him.
“What are you talking about?”
“Don’t play daft, Evans. Did you mean it? What you said on the phone?” James looked anxious now, both hands pushing into his hair before they fell to his side. “I need to know if you meant it.”
“I’m sorry, James. I should’ve never said it. It was so wrong of me to just spring that on you in a voicemail,” Lily apologized, turning around again so that she could focus her attention on picking out what tea she wanted to drink.
“So you meant it?” James’ voice was suddenly much closer. Lily hadn’t heard him stepping up to her, but she knew if she turned around she’d be flush against him.
“Y-yes,” she stammered quietly, hoping he would just drop it.
“Thank god,” he breathed before tugging on her arm so that she spun into him. Both of his hands splayed against her lower back and before she could register what was happening, James’ lips were against hers and she felt herself melting into him.
“Ja- wha-?” Lily couldn’t form full words, but knew she needed to figure out what was happening.
“I’ve been in love with you since the day we bloody met. You’re fierce and you’re brilliant and beautiful and I can’t imagine not loving you.” James didn’t even give time for his admission to register, pressing her back against the counter so that he could properly kiss her.
“James!” Lily huffed, though a smile was spreading on her face as she pushed him back to garner some space.
“Lily!” James mocked, though his own answering grin was telling enough.
“I love you,” she whispered, running her fingers through that hair she had always longed to touch.
“I love you, I love you, I love you. Now can I kiss you?” His voice was impatient as he squeezed her hips.
Lily decided to forgo an answer, instead choosing to move in for another kiss.

SO SORRY ABOUT THE GUSHING! For picnic snacks, sometimes mari bakes her own cookies and natsuki makes awesome cupcakes and brownies! Also, at the end for beach days, we bring a whole lot of soda and swim sometimes! ooh and we camp at friday nights sometimes, telling ghost stories and eating smores! sometimes at our picnics, me and basil plant flowers like lilies, tulips, etc at out picnic spot! again, sorry for sending so many gushing posts!
PLEASE it's totally fine we love to listen and encourage :D!!! I've gone ahead and screenshotted your other Asks so you'll find them down below :3c
I bet if you asked / were interested, Mari and Natsuki both would be so thrilled to teach you how to make such tasty sounding treats! Please think of how excited they get when you compliment their work :')
I think that's so lovely that you and Basil like to plant flowers sometimes when y'all go picnicking - what a lovely way to brighten up a place with such good memories attached! I bet it's super neat to keep coming back to those spots regularly to watch their growth♡
Stars, that sounds SO FUN :D please think of stargazing and making up constellations together as you hang out around that campfire on the beach! Also please think of Mari and Aubrey laughing along with you as you all sit together in your comfy pj's playing y'all's favorite co-op video games!! Think of them wanting to sit on both sides of you as y'all pile into y'all's pillow forts and watch movies together- if you're the type, maybe y'all all swap quips as you watch or exchange thoughtful commentary :3c
Oh!!! I bet Mari always enjoys when you and Aubrey get back safely- for some reason I'm really picturing y'all three going to a local café to get sweet drinks before you and Aubrey launch into retelling the adventure for Mari :)!
