Mavis: Okay. Let me reiterate. The four other hosts came all the way to the office to surprise you; all of you were inexplicably turned into content by Binjpipe; Nate found a meteor with psychic abilities hidden behind some sort of lab while investigating Binjpipe; once freed, Guy pressed a button that created AI clones of yourselves despite Nate’s vision... and you saved my life from them.
Cookie: Yes.
Mavis: (after a pause) That's so stupid I have no choice but to believe you.

#( ooc )#(i know josh isn't a redhead but there's so very few redheaded male fcs out there & i felt weird using cameron monaghan when he's 30#compared to using 21 year old olivia for mavis & yeah my mavis & johnny aren't directly connected to each other but STILL)#(plus josh has the johnny vibes way more than cam ever did -)#(content of ricky bowen can kinda give the goofy johnny vibes content of ian gallagher ... not so much)

"Tot Trouble"
SEPTEMBER 12th, 2031
You don’t need to be a mathematician to know that a week after September 4th is 9/11. So while the whole office was walking on eggshells for an entire Thursday; the next day, a Friday, was more talkative-
-much more talkative.
“I was so sure we’d make a bad 'here comes the airplane' joke, if Periwinkle did this yesterday.” Cookie said.
“Yeah. But now there’s a new problem.” Schmitty held a tot-Booloo. “This is like that shitty Mario cartoon where Bowser dressed as a baby and turned Peach- Toadstool into one.”
“Periwinkle being lonely and wanting friends. Noted.” laughed Mavis, wearing a new perfume.
“Ooooooh, vanilla?” Guy noticed.
“M-hmm.” Mavis nodded.
Nate toddled in. “Hi…”
“Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!” Mavis gushed a little, scooping him up. “Looks like you’re older, Buzz.”
Periwinkle and Booloo were giggling together.
“I don’t like it, change it back.” Buzz shivered.
“I was making a joke.” Mavis deadpanned.
“Humor, not everyone gets it.” Guy mused. “Okay. This should be easy. There’s two of them and…five other fucks plus Avery.”
“Assuming that Periwinkle doesn’t get bored with his new friends.” Schmitty corrected.
“He’s a baby, Schmitty. Babies get distracted easily. Just roll him a ball and he’ll forget all about the jinx he has.” Cookie snarked.
“I’ll try to find some snacks.” Avery chuckled. “Let’s see…watermelon, nah. Bananas…maybe. Eff it, I’ll grab as much fruit as we got in the fridge.”
“Okay.” Mavis shrugged. “Nobody eats them, anyways.”
“Should one of us go with them?” Bob asked.
“Avery’s independent.” reminded Guy.
*SLAM*
“SORRY I’M LATE, I OVERSLEPT!” Blaze panicked before stopping. “Oh my goodness!” she waved at Booloo while Mavis placed Nate on a counter before she grabbed a…glass of adult juice.
“So, we’re all toast.” Schmitty said.

leonie is born with the name thalia lin, and that name belongs to her for all of three days. shortly after giving birth to her at home, her birth mother drops her off at a fire station — thalia lin is taken in by the state and three days later, is being adopted by jennifer and josh mavis, a couple unable to conceive their own children that are making their dreams of a big family come true, come hell or high water. they change her name to leonie powell, after jennifer's grandmother and josh's grandfather. they take her home, where they already have two other children, and a life
leonie is a tornado that careens around the house despite reticence in social situations. she's a little shy and prefers mostly to play with herself, but when she does, she chatters away with the biggest, most elaborate imagination. her parents think maybe dance, swim or gymnastics to get the energy out and channel all of that personality that's beneath the surface, but when they sign all the kids up for ymca spring soccer, they're not expecting what they get out of her. they expect leonie to be making daisy chains on the opposite end of the field. instead, she's in the middle of the gaggle of four year olds, scrappy as hell fighting for the ball. she doesn't care when they call her a ball hog. she beams ear to ear on the way to practice, after every game, and sleeps with her soccer ball instead of a stuffed animal.
as a middle child, leonie should've been clawing for attention from her parents or even from the cacophony of siblings running around the house, too. instead, leonie is content with her own company, so long as she has a soccer ball at her feet. she'd dribble for hours, practice until the street lights came on and then her parents had to drag her into the house to go to bed. she was their maverick, their independent child who loved to snuggle up for a bedtime story but was alright on her own. preferred it that way, even.
when the '99 women's world cup comes to jersey, leonie's parents surprise her with an early birthday present of tickets to go see the us play denmark. it is easily the greatest day of baby leonie's life — the stars in her eyes go unparalleled as she watches the uswnt crush denmark and move up in the ranks. the mavis family is then forced to watch every remaining game on television in the living room all the way up to the final, when the us wins. leonie tries to rip her shirt like brandi chastain but can't get the fabric to tear. her parents think it's charming but leonie tells them with a steel-eyed gaze that one day that'll be her.
the older she gets, the more leonie comes into her own. she's not so much shy as she is focused — in middle school, girls are chasing after boys, while leonie's chasing after u-14 camp roster slots, maximum minutes on the field, and maybe a new set of cleats for her birthday. the girls on her team see a bubblier, open version of leonie, almost amazed when she zones back in for the game. her family is bursting at the seams but they make it by, they always do, and leonie's territory is the backyard, where she practices and plays until she nearly passes out in the grass. it engrains a discipline in her, a hustle that her parents quietly wish she'd apply towards her academics. leonie doesn't care much for school, the horizons of college — she's only going to go so she can play ball. high school comes and she starts to emerge a little more out of her shell, making friends beyond the pitch. she's goofy and sarcastic and so relaxed, so sure of herself that even the most insecure teenagers try to fall in her orbit to emulate some of that assuredness.
leonie's pretty sure the only reason she survives high school is because her coach threatens her with suicides if she doesn't keep her grades at the minimum of a b. she gets recruited by UNC her senior year and when she gets to college, the world is her oyster. she thrives in college, even though she sleeps through the majority of her communications classes (she picks her major based off of which will have the minimal amount of work) — college is where she kisses a girl for the first time, where she goes to parties and makes friends and, eventually, is scouted by the us women's national soccer team.
leonie is invited to train with the national team and nearly comes out of her skin, she's so excited. she becomes something like a little puppy, overexcited and ready to kick ass on the field without making a fool of herself in front of absolute legends. that's what they are, after all. legends. her childhood heroes. between the foot forward she puts, the amount of grinding she puts in to prove her place, and a few good words from her coach, she is the youngest player ever on the national team to go to the olympics in beijing when she's just 20. she wins a gold medal with the team and feels like she's flying.
she hears people say, "that mavis, she's the future of women's soccer. she's the one to watch." and she doesn't take it lightly. she plays for the pali blues in the summers to stay sharp and wins the hermann trophy her senior year. when she graduates college, she puts her name forward in the draft for the wps and is the first draft pick that year for sky blue fc. she'd never say it, but her nomadic heart missed home. she missed being near her siblings and despite the great, grand adventure she was heading towards, she wanted to be near home. whatever her urge to be a short drive from her parents and siblings turned out to be intuition, after she gets injured in a game and is out for the rest of the season to rehab her back. it's the first time she's ever been in excruciating pain like this, her own body holding her prisoner. she doesn't like it. she hates it, even, and is ready to claw off her own skin. all she wants is to be back, because all she knows is soccer. it's all she cares about — she is nothing without it. this much she knows.
she's only given a short moment of triumph with her 2012 olympic gold win. the wps folds, and then the wpsl, and while everyone around leonie wonders if she'll wake up and realize soccer as a career maybe isn't in the cards, she still lines herself up for the nwsl draft. she cannot imagine a future without soccer in it, so she'll do whatever it takes, even if it means a third time's a charm league that's just as suspect to fail. she gets allocated to the chicago red stars, and thus begins the rest of her career as a professional athlete. she plays for the red stars from 2013 on, with a devastating 2016 olympic loss and a 2019 world cup win on the national team. she flourishes in chicago and puts down roots. leonie buys a house. she does endorsement after endorsement, bold and bright and beautiful, adored by teammates from her leadership on and off the pitch and the sense of humor that picks them all up whenever they need a small reprieve. leonie is in her element, glowing and burning like the sun.
at the tokyo olympics, leonie and the team win bronze. it's a comeback consolation from 2016, even if it's not the same high as the 2019 win — it comes with devastating news, though, that a small irritant in her knee is a cartilage tear that most doctors consider a career-ending injury. leonie hears white noise. she refuses to accept it, despite her parents and her siblings and her coaches and teammates and partner all try to find a new way to tell her that this is it for her. but stubborn leonie, never one to listen, fights it. she manages to find a doctor who can help her manage and squeezes in a few more seasons and the most disheartening world cup of her entire life before she is put on sei for the last time. she doesn't know how to say to the public that she's done, because then it feels final. finite. that soccer, the dream she has so dearly loved, is over.
after the 2023 world cup and the 2023 nwsl season wraps, leonie disappears. she heads overseas for a little while to clear her head, visit her french girlfriend, but she is not handling this new normal. she undergoes a surgery that turns out to be far more invasive and massive than she's led to believe, and when she wakes up, she feels like someone cut out her soul while under the knife. the cartilage transplant they'd given her all but assures her that if there is ever a return to soccer, it will never be in the capacity she imagined. there's possibly no return at all. rehab is brutal and she's in more pain than she ever could've imagined, and it creates a storm cloud over her head. instead of proposing to her french girlfriend, she's packing her bags and heading back to chicago with a gigantic question mark over her head. former teammates who have had to retire tell her there's a spot for her in sports broadcasting/media, or that she could coach, but leonie doesn't like the idea that she's done. she doesn't want the glory days to be over.
something forces her head out of her ass, like it usually does — leonie's brother calls from oregon, explaining in a strained voice that he needs her. from what she understands, his wife's left without a second word, leaving him and their daughter behind like ghosts in the wind, and being in a new town has left him in a sticky spot. he can't leave, but leonie can come. she doesn't have anything else to do, so she acquiesces. it's how she gets to windsor bay, in the name of putting one foot in front of the other, figuring that maybe her next step will reveal itself to her while she helps take care of her brother and niece. at the very least, it's nice to be floating in limbo with someone else.
╰ 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗢𝗡𝗦.
adhd diagnosis when she was 13
perhaps the only known person alive who loved communal living at unc, lived in the dorms until her senior year
she's dated like, 3 of her former teammates, so she is not immune to the charm of a beautiful woman in close proximity to her lmao
to the last point, miss girl is an out and proud lesbian. she didn't come out publicly until the 2019 world cup but has been in her fair share of relationships — was definitely a lil bit of a player in her early 20s
curates impeccable spotify playlists. for any occasion or person, she’s got the go to track list for you.
despite being a former athlete all clean and straitlaced, she's big into weed. it helps with the knee pain to some extent, so she's got a medicinal prescription for it, but whether she's smoking it or baking a banger edible brownie, it's not unheard of for her to smell like marijuana.
honestly, a miracle she graduated high school and college, because school is not her jam. thanks god for spell check and calculator apps
she will never ever ever say the R word (retired) even though that's absolutely what she is, there's still this tiny little candle flame that holds out hope she'll be able to play in at least one more game
joined marching band in middle school mostly as a joke. played the triangle.
she's in more physical pain than she'll ever say, and basic quality of life things are a lil hard for her with her knee, so she's actively at physical therapy trying to help out that baby cartilage grow into something strong. lately she's been on a big swimming kick
leonie, my relaxed girl... is a terror when she's angry. like she's actually kinda scary. jokes that when she's mad her alter ego comes out
allergic to carrots
she understood instagram and twitter far more in like, 2012, than she does now. she constantly forgets that it's a thing and that she has accounts and will always be like "man i wish there was somewhere i could share this picture i took"
i like to think she's the love child of tobin heath and kelley o'hara but no one asked me

this song always makes me think of fallout through the perspective of the protagonists as they fully realise the evils of capitalism and the importance of communities moving to action against these powers

Dancefest, Chapter 9: There’s a Raging Fire and It Burns So Near
After a little hiatus (induced through a lack of finished chapter art, because that too hasn't changed since the old days), we approach the unimaginable climax of the second half of Dancefest.
As the sun sets in California, a new threat rises. Josh is more uncertain in himself than ever. Is he willing to take on the new foe taking flight? Will all his careful planning to keep his super-secret hidden unravel under the lights?
This is sort of the first half of a two-chapter arc; it just seemed fitting to end this piece of the story where it did when I got to it, because it was getting clear the whole thing would be too big for a single chapter. And so, you'll be left in suspense! At least for a week or two.
Featuring a further little cameo from @whynotzoidbergdotorg's old Supernoobs OC Yolanda Garcia. She's probably been seen more in the Josh Carter universe than her home Mavis Zero stories at this point.

Norah Jones with Mavis Staples at Rose Music Center at the Heights, Huber Heights, Ohio, July 10, 2024
A nearly full house - 4,000 voices strong - sung “Happy Birthday” to Mavis Staples as she spent her 85th singing to them.
It was July 10 at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights, Ohio, and Staples was both celebrating and working.
That’s what Staples does - always giving; always keeping spiritual faith and faith in humanity.
“We come this evening to bring you some happiness. Some joy,” Staples, bathed in sunlight, said from the stage after joking it was past her bedtime.
“We want you to feel good. I come out here to have myself a good time. We want you to leave here feeling better than you did when you first come up in here.”
Sound Bites did.
For 45 minutes, Staples, diminutive in teal, and her all-in-black band - guitar, rhythm section and two female vocalists - administered aural elixir via Staple Singers songs like “If You’re Ready (Come Go with Me)” “I’m Just Another Soldier” and “Handwriting on the Wall;” her father, Pops’, “Friendship;” and Buffalo Springfield’s “For What it’s Worth.” Staples emoted, slapped her guitarist on the shoulder and waved to the audience as headliner Norah Jones took photos from just off stage.
It was Staples’ birthday. But it was the audience that received the gift.
It was nearly dark when Jones and her band took the stage for a 95-minute, 18-song set that spanned her career from the piano jazz of “Come Away with Me” to twangy alt-country of “Little Broken Hearts” to the pop-soul of “I Just Wanna Dance” from 2024’s Visions.
Alternately seated at a white piano and standing center stage to play electric piano or guitar, Jones, in a striped floor-length dress that matched streaming ribbons on stage, was in good humor and pure voice. With supple backing from her Puss N Boots bandmate Sasha Dobson on vocals and guitars, Sami Stevens on organ and vocals and the rhythm section of drummer Brian Blades and electric and acoustic bassist Josh Lattanzi, Jones personified the concept of low-temperature heat.
This was clearest on her arrangement of Minnie Riperton’s “Les Fleurs,” which scored with the sublime tension of the melody trying to break free from Blades and Lattanzi’s designed restraint.
And when Jones and company smoldered through Tom Waits’ “Long Way Home” before the inevitable “Don’t Know Why” finale, Jones again proved herself the rare artist with the ability to grow new musical branches while never losing touch with her roots.
