Love the tried and true "byleth takes care of dimitri" premise because byleth has a giant unbeating heart with room in it for every single one of his (former) students no matter how self sacrificial they are determined to be, but I also like to see the tables turned because he is #1 best in class for not taking his own advice and I want to see dimitri lovingly attempt to bully him into taking a break

Dimitri: you know, my professor always used to remind us not to overwork ourselves, and I tried to take that to heart because he was correct and I can't protect my people if I'm dead

Byleth: your professor sounds like a smart man

Dimitri: he was. He is. And yet here he sits, working at his desk in the small hours of the morning after he promised he would come to bed with me right after his bath

Summary: The war is long over, but the shadows of the past do not disappear so quickly. They are everywhere when Dimitri visits Garreg Mach. So how can it be that he still can almost only remember the good memories at first? And can this, as Byleth suggests, also be an opportunity?

When Dimitri walked the familiar halls of Garreg Mach, an unexpected number of feelings and memories flooded his mind. He had never been a nostalgic person. It was a luxury someone in his position could not afford to have.

At least that was how it had been like for the longest time of his life. When other children - both nobles and commoners -  started to grow up, there seemed to be a point when they understood what leaving the carefree childhood days behind meant. Dimitri, however, sometimes thought that those days had never existed for him. If they ever did, they vanished the moment his family was killed. He had been a kid back then, naive and young and unprepared for a lot of things to come. The responsibilities waiting for him had been tough, but he had been determined to grow up into a man strong enough to shoulder them all as quickly as possible.

Garreg Mach had become the central place for this development, and everything here seemed to breathe memories, both good and bad.

The classroom of the Blue Lions where he had been reunited with his childhood friends and also met a lot of new friends.

Shared meals with everyone in the dining hall, with Dedue anxiously watching over his meals because he had been terrified that his inability to taste something would cause Dimitri to eat something bad. Funny enough, it was something that had never really bothered himself very much. Sometimes, it even came in handy, since it allowed him to even enjoy meals cooked by less skilled but very passionate cooks, like Flayn for example. And even later on, in times of war and crisis, an iron stomach turned out to be a practical thing to have.

The training ground, where he had often practiced with his lance until he was totally exhausted. For a long time, this had also been the only place where Felix had not refused to talk to him. It may have only been harsh words between determined sword blows, but it had been better than the cold disdain his younger childhood friend had shown him otherwise.

All those memories came back to Dimitri while he walked the familiar buildings and paths. Only when reaching the bridge to the cathedral did he notice that by recalling those happy memories, his mind had clearly filtered out a lot of others. Darker ones he would have liked to forget, fully aware that he would never be allowed or even able to.

Of course there were fond memories connected to this place, too. Like the choir practices he attended with Annette and Mercedes, how the two girls had encouraged him even if it must have been obvious that his voice, still not quite done with changing from a boy’s to a man’s one, could never sound in harmony with their beautiful clear female voices. However, those memories were soon overshadowed by completely different ones. The rooftop of the grand cathedral, destroyed, and not enough manpower to repair it or even take out the debris. He, in his darkest days, roaming the holy grounds like a monster with nothing left but his killing intent. His former classmates' words, unable to reach him for a very long time. Had they not been that persistent, Dimitri most likely would have never gotten back to his senses.

I get a few notes on this post once in a while

And I'm a nosy person who likes to look at everyone's book/comics/doujinshi collections so here's what my souyo shelf looks like now

With some ShuAke thrown in at the end there . (All the figma I have are given to me by friends; all my budget goes to thin books.) I do have them in opp covers because I have constantly sweaty dirty hands.

Some more Persona stuff (mostly non-ship). With smt books (also non-ship). The rest is DGS with AsoRyuu.

if u mean like their in game sexualities then bisexuality rules but if u mean what i personally hc of them they are also both bi

Need to get back to my dimileth roots because I've become obsessed with a many years post canon scenario where byleth has not aged one single second since the Everything, so the only different thing about his appearance is that he's grown his hair out to hide his ears (you can pry dragon features! byleth from my cold dead hands), meanwhile dimitri has notable white streaks in his hair...

I just kind of want to explore their different reactions to aging....because you know dimitri definitely feels some type of way about it (when you never expected to live this long but here you are...it's complicated)

Also I am a simple man, and I think byleth should get to be appreciative of his middle aged husband
