After a long day at work, you stepped out of your office building, tired but relieved that the workweek was coming to an end. As you walked towards the sidewalk, you noticed Karma sitting on the hood of his unmistakable red car, a sly grin on his face.

He waved his hand cheerfully as he greeted you, making you squint your eyes. Your instincts are telling you something, or more like warning you.

"Hey there, Y/N," he greeted, his golden eyes gleaming mischievously. "Long day at the office?" You chuckled, appreciating the familiar banter.

"As always. And what brings you here? As far as I recall, I didn't call you to fetch me, so what's the deal?" you inquired, raising an eyebrow. As he approached you, he laughed, attempting to guide you inside his red car.

Karma slid off the hood, revealing a mischievous glint in his eyes. "I'm just waiting for you, my dear colleague. I figured you're going to Kayano-chan's place as well, so I thought of passing by." He winked at you before opening his car door for you.

"Welcome aboard." Still wary of his actions, you inspect him from head-to-toe.

'Not bad,' you thought. Cutting your train of thoughts, you shrugged off and went inside.

Little did you know, Karma had a prank up his sleeve. As soon as you sat down, you were jolted out of your seat. Behold, a fart cushion has been revealed. Karma burst out laughing. You fell for his prank once more.

"You did it on purpose, didn't yo-?" Karma shut the door on purpose to cut you off. You smacked Karma in the square face with the fart cushion as soon as he got in the car, earning a surprised yet amused expression from him. He laughed but had a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.

"Alright, alright, you got me," he admitted, wiping away the imaginary stench.

"You came to get your daily dose of prank; you never change," you said as you tossed the cushion in the back.

"And you never did learn."

Your eyes unintentionally met, and the butterflies began to swarm inside your stomach, just as they had in previous scenarios. You've admitted to yourself that, for months, you developed feelings for Karma. You're not sure why, but you've recently realized that he's just right for you. Your gaze would unconsciously travel only to his figure. His antics never ceased to irritate you, but you somehow enjoyed them. You thought it was insanely stupid at first. Like, how could you fall for him based solely on his endless pranks? But then you noticed the way his mercury orbs looked at you. You don't want to assume, but whenever he looks at you, you get the impression that his gaze is genuine. When you're around, he's like an open book, so vulnerable and fragile. When you realized you had been staring out the window for too long, you quickly averted your gaze. You can't stand the embarrassment if he happens to realize it.

"Y'know, you do have a thing for red, don't you?" you wondered. From his necktie all the way to his car. You also recall that the majority of his clothing in high school was red. "I wouldn't be surprised if your toothbrush is also red," you joked.

"Haha, funny, but how did you know my toothbrush is red?" he admitted.

"You've got to be kidding me!" you exclaimed, perplexed.

"That's my color, I guess,'" he said jokingly. You could only hum to end the conversation while fiddling with your hands.

You became aware that you had fallen into a light slumber when you felt light taps on your shoulders and cheeks. You must have fallen asleep due to exhaustion.

"We're here?" you asked as you peered out the window. Finally, the sun had gone down. Karma unbuckled his seat belt, and you did the same.

"Look who fashionably came late," Kayano said as she opened her door and welcomed you. "Hmm, definitely not us, right, Karma?" Karma chuckled.

"Oh Kayano, I see, you've grown a little, huh?" you teased her jokingly as you hovered your hand a few centimeters above her head, earning a playful smack.

"Yo! It's been a while, guys," you said, noticing the others sitting at the living room table with cans of beer on top.

Upon arrival, you found that most of your friends were already in high spirits, enjoying the night with laughter and drinks. The gang settled in for a night of shared stories and camaraderie. You spent the night catching up on everyone's current life events, especially Kayano and Sugino, the group's superstars.

As the night progressed, the others gradually succumbed to the effects of alcohol. Your head begins to spin for the nth time. Nagisa had just passed out, and Okuda and Kanzaki had gone to one of Kayano's rooms. You only have an average tolerance for alcohol, so catching up to this point astounded you. Your sobriety has left you, which has caused you to say incoherent things. When you announced that you would be heading to bed, Karma offered to escort you.

Kayano led you both to a guest room in her condo, and as she left, you found yourself alone with Karma.He voluntarily stayed with you to look after you. With many shifts and turns, you finally lay on your back. There, in the quietude of the room, you couldn't help but stare into Karma's mesmerizing golden eyes.

In your slightly intoxicated state, you blurted out, "You know, Karma, I really like your eyes. They're like pools of gold. It makes me feel like I am enchanted by you."

He chuckled, his gaze softening. "Well, thank you, Y/N. I've always thought your eyes were pretty amazing too."

You get to see this side of Karma when you two are alone. Maybe because you find solace in each other's comfort. Or even deeper than it is.

The atmosphere in the room shifted, and you felt a surge of courage. "No, Karma, I mean... I really like you."

His eyes widened in surprise, and a moment of silence lingered between you. Karma has said something incoherent to himself, something you can't comprehend. The atmosphere made you a little self-conscious. You wondered about the implications of your drunken confession. Turning around, you settled in, laying on your stomach.

"Hey! Say something!" You grunted as you continued to feel his gaze bore into your figure. Feeling the annoyed emotions, you swatted his face away, making him chuckle and stare at you more.

"Stop staring at me," you declared, dipping your face into the pillow. You stayed in that position for a while, finally passing out some time. Karma nudged you 'until he was finally convinced that you had finally passed out. He tucks your hair behind your ear and runs his fingers through your cheeks.

Little did you know that this moment would lead to a series of events that would unfold in the days to come.

Scaramouche, scaramouche, will you do the fandango?- completely manic. At the peak of drunkeness. At some point he has got up on the table and is now pointing at Nina like he's expecting her to actually DO the fucking Fandango (tbh he probably is)

BONUS LINE FROM THE SAME VERSE: Thunderbolts and lightening, very very frightening me- again, peak drunkeness. Slurring his words so hard you can barely tell what he's saying. Stumbling off of the table but still stupidly manic.

Nothing really matters // nothing really matters to me- there's no more energy. He's on the floor and too drunk to get back up. Probably just slumps over clutching a wine bottle (did I mention he's been using it as a mic?) and goes to sleep. Maggie, Nina, and Aziraphale (IF he's watching) and deeply concerned. He wakes up with a banging headache and an intense feeling of embarrassment.

Touhou Project theory: the Scarlet Devil Mansion's heavy metal poisoning

Potential sources of heavy metal toxins

If we look inside the mansion there's a lot of red carpet. One pigment for red is vermilion, which which is derived from the mercury mineral cinnabar which is highly toxic. Vermilion was a highly valued and prestigious dye historically, befitting of an aristocrat's mansion. Another detail is in one of these screenshots the carpet is a rather dark red, and while many red pigments slowly turn pink as they fade vermilion actually darkens and turns brown (similar to blood), which you can see in the painting below. This could be a lighting effect, though.

Another possible pigment is minium, which is derived from lead and is also toxic.

We also see a fair amount of white in the mansion, on the table cloth in the above image and many of the residents' clothing such as Sakuya's apron and Flandre's mob cap. One historical pigment for white is lead white, which is also derived from lead. Lead white was also used in cosmetics to whiten skin, for another potential source of poisoning.

Another potential source is lead from pewter. Given Remilia's weakness to silver she is not likely to use sterling silver for metal objects such as tableware and tea sets. Pewter, a broad term for various tin alloys, is a popular alternative she might use. However, many older pewter alloys contained large amounts of lead as its toxicity was not understood. For a long time lead was actually used in toys since it was cheap and not understood.

There's also a possibility of toxins leaching into food or drink through glass or the enamel of pottery. Lead-crystal glass slowing leaches lead into drink and if Remilia happened to buy any Uranium glass, which became popular during the mid 19th century, and peaked between 1880 to 1920, that would leach uranium. If any pottery uses toxic materials in the enamel that is another source of poisoning.

Potential victims

Sakuya Izayoi and Patchouli Knowledge are the two most human residents of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Both display symptoms of heavy metal poisoning.

Patchouli is stated to have anemia and weak muscles. Both of these can occur from lead poisoning, though anemia typically takes a very large dose.

Sakuya Izayoi is described as "spacey", which is defined by the Merriam-webster dictionary as a synonym of spaced-out which means "dazed or stupefied by or as if by a narcotic substance,". Given how both mercury and lead mostly affect the nervous system, and both can cause memory impairment, tremors and incoordination, it makes sense that someone suffering from heavy metal poisoning might be compared to someone who is drunk or high.

For more definitive proof that Sakuya has mental difficulties, we should look at the fact that Sakuya does not know what oxygen is. While one might assume that this is just because she lives isolated from the modern world, Oxygen was first isolated before 1604 by Michael Sendivogius, and given a name and recognized as an element in 1777. Oxygen could be an important discovery for her position considering its role in food preservation. Sakuya has had over two centuries to learn that oxygen exists. Keep in mind that she lives with Patchouli Knowledge, a professional scholar, who may have been residing in the mansion for nearly a century. This could suggest serious memory and learning issues, symptoms of both lead and mercury poisoning.

While Sakuya does not display the the delayed reactions or loss of coordination associated with lead and mercury poisoning, her powers over time may prevent this. If she trips and drops something, which might normally cause someone to notice her decreasing coordination, she can just stop time and undo it.

Another interesting, though flawed, possibility is that the fairy maids have heavy metal poisoning as well. The fairy maids are stated numerous times to be bad at their jobs, spending most of their work hours only able to maintain themselves, but were still hired by Sakuya and continue to be employed by Remilia. With symptoms of anemia, weakness, memory loss, pain, lack of coordination and more it's easy to see how lead and/or mercury poisoning could make a maid bad at their job. Fairies in Touhou Project are often compared to children who are especially susceptible to lead poisoning. The fairy maids would probably slowly improve at their jobs since first being hired, and plateau and slowly decrease as increasing heavy metal levels in their blood poison them and affect their work. Perhaps Remilia and Sakuya see this happen with all the maids and assume it's just how maids or fairies work.

While one might object and that youkai would not be affected by human medical conditions like lead or mercury poisoning, there is a tiny bit of precedent for this. There's an exchange in Touhou 19 where Sanae recommends that Mamizou stop smoking so much: "I don't suppose that smoking too much is good for you. Nor is drinking." This, if admittedly stretched, suggests that certain things that are unhealthy for humans may be unhealthy for certain youkai and similar beings as well. Youkai are also affected by alcohol as well and get drunk. While this might be because of the idea that drinking makes you drunk, is it possible that if knowledge of lead and mercury poisoning spread to the humans of Gensokyo, and they started believing that lead makes you sick, that belief might cause certain youkai and related beings to get sick as well?

Problems with this theory

Neither Patchouli nor Sakuya show certain physical symptoms of mercury poisoning: Skin discolouration (usually reddening), hair loss, or peeling of the skin. Let's compare some artwork from Touhou 6:

As we can see, Reimu has the reddest cheeks which is inconsistent with Sakuya and Patchouli having mercury poisoning. However, an interesting connection is that Reimu wears mostly red, and considering it is traditional to paint the Torii gates of shrines vermilion to ward off evil, it is actually more possible than I initially thought that she could have mercury poisoning as well.

Some might object that Patchouli Knowledge, being a youkai mage, might be immune to toxins. Considering how wizards are stated to often have weak bodies due to interaction with dangerous substances, I find this unlikely. One might argue something similar for Sakuya because of her time manipulation, but we only see her use time manipulation consciously, so we aren't sure. The main question would be whether the process that slows her aging also negates most of her bodily functions, so I guess this would depend on whether we see her eat and breath, and since she gets tired from hypoxia in Touhou 18 she must be breathing and is probably susceptible to poison as well.

The main problems I can think with this theory of are with the fairy maids having heavy metal poisoning as well, which was not the main subject. It's been explained that Remilia goes for quantity over quality for her staff, and Sakuya presumably hires anyone with the most basic of skills. However, it could be possible that Remilia goes for quantity over quality because they all end up low quality due to their poisoning. Given that fairies are used to playing and pulling pranks they are probably unsuited to hard work. The reasoning that they might still be affected by poison is rather weak since much of it relies on a single remark from Sanae, who might be wrong. I still found it interesting to consider.

Another question: can placements in chart tell you if someone is like an evil or a good person? Like I know you can caculate the compatibility with another person and if they clash or not but I'm curious if theres something that can just tell they whether they're good or bad

MMmhh.. very good question because I never thought about it haha! Mmmh well I personally feel happy with my natal chart, I believe I'm quite blessed when I see other people around me with more difficult placements! Mine is quite harmonious and I'm glad.

In this post, it will cover the whole summary for the Parasitic Mercury lore. This will be extremely long. TW // MENTION OF DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND DEATH.

The band began when Scal Holden invited Dave Silver to jam one afternoon on May 29, 1992. A few days later, Dave invited his girlfriend, Zoe Kerstin to do the drums. After creating a few songs and performing at small events, they decided to take this band seriously and eventually, on August 13, they named it Parasitic Mercury, after Zoe read a fact that parasites contained heavy metal in their system.

Throughout the year, they started performing in bigger venues—from just performing a couple of songs at a house party to eventually performing in bars and restaurants. Soon, they signed a record deal with GAC Records and they went to release an album in 1993, called Parasitic Mercury, also known as the Red Album.

In 1994, they released another album called Hydrargyrum Amalgamation, which sounded almost identical to their debut except their sounds are much more refined. At this point, Scal allowed Zoe to make contributions, not just lyrically but vocally as well. In 1996, she practically dominated the third album, which is Fuck the Unholy Angels. It is widely famous due to her death growls and because of this album, Parasitic Mercury entered mainstream and radio stations started playing their songs worldwide.

During the Unholy Angels World Tour, Scal fell sick several times and they had Vergie Vengeance's keyboardist, Apple Farscotch, temporarily take the bass, considering they knew a variety of instruments while Zoe did the vocals. Impressed, Zoe eventually asked Apple to join the band and they became their rhythm guitarist.

The band started to have problems in 1997, especially when Scal was arrested for drunk driving, causing him to be imprisoned for months, and Dave quitting the band several times due to his anxiety, preferring to work at various local jobs instead. This caused a huge delay to the production of their fourth album, Despite that, the band still managed to record it into completion, and eventually they released it in 1998, labeled Into the Depths of Silence.

The fourth album is also Apple's first recording with the band and they have approved the usage of synth music. At this point, there was a noticeable shift on genres, while they retained the overall style. Apple was praised for their musicianship and contributions, and it was well received like the previous album.

On November 23, 2001, their long time producer, Geoffrey Gunner passed away after an overdose one night. It didn't take long for the record label to replace him and on December 2, Steven Karsken took over the job as the producer.

To the band, working with Karsken was hell. Not only he didn't listen to the band's opinions and took the matter in his own hands, but allegedly the workplace was overall toxic. This caused Dave to quit the band for the second time.

Since Karsken made most of the decisions, their fifth album, Spinning, Stabbing, Sealing was a massive commercial failure by the time it was released in 2003. One of its criticisms was "too much of synth" and "the band doesn't know what they're doing". Dave later also expressed distaste towards the fifth because he felt like "he didn't contribute to anything because they have Apple do all the synth instruments".

The band eventually took a darker turn when Apple was murdered during a brawl at a bar on April 8, 2006. With them failing because of the fifth album and the fact they couldn't continue without Apple, they eventually broke up on May 27.

For years, the surviving three members decided to focus on their personal lives. Scal went to a rehab and therapy as he was determined to get better, while Zoe and Dave started a family, with Zoe's fraternal twin sister Kayla, volunteering as a surrogate mother.

Eventually, on April 15, 2022, the band reunited once again as a three-member band. They never returned to GAC Records and instead they're now under an independent label called Hydrargyrum Records. Scal also announced that they'll be returning to their original roots for the sixth album.
