Question: In season 5, Dark Side of the Moon, when they’re in heaven, it’s implied that Sam and Dean are soulmates, that Ash tells them that there are special cases that share a heaven. Was that talked about in the filming of the episode and your reactions, and do you think that Sam and Dean are soulmates?

Jared: That was only 15 years ago—[to Jensen, who looked confused] …When we shot the heaven sequence— Jensen: [to Jared] No, I remember that. I just don’t remember that soulmate thing. Jared: Yeah, I think it makes sense. [after clarification about the scene] Ah, OK. Jensen: So it’s implied. There are a lot of things implied in the show. Jared: I’d guess if you asked every person here what the definition of what a soulmate is, you’d probably get 30 different answers, so I think it’s pretty obvious that what Sam and Dean did together, they couldn’t have done solo. And they were better together, working together as a team, and we saw them often at odds with each other, and then when they were on the same page, they were essentially unstoppable other than that damn rebar that one time, that one time. Jensen: Their souls were bound. Their souls were bound together. Jared: I guess the real answer to the question is the final scene of the series. Like yeah, they’re in heaven together; maybe that’s Dean’s, maybe Sam has his own and Dean is there as well, but something to explore next season. Jensen: It also brings up the question of is there only one soulmate? Or do you find multiple soulmates? Jared: Yeah, Sure. Jensen: You know? Does your soul reach out to—you find a connection with that kind of gravity in multiple people, and I think that maybe you do, maybe those are the people you spend the afterlife with, those mates that you found. Jared: I like that. Jensen: I don’t know, I just came up with that. Write that down.

Another thing I noticed while watching the grand complication job: when Sophie originally goes on her "you've no idea what fuse you just lit" rant, talking about how Parker and Astrid hate each other and how Parker might kill Astrid and all that.... her tone of voice is exactly the same as when she yells about the bad guy having taken "the safety off the gun" and how "it takes all his control not to kill someone" when they pretend that Eliot got drugged during the boxing match in the Tap Out Job.

Like. It's so similar, it made me pause the episode and go hmmm Sophie do be exaggerating the truth for the grift, methinks.

And, yes. Of course she was. She's using the truth (they hate each other, Parker is legitimately dangerous and willing to kill ppl, Sophie is upset about Bligh setting them against each other like that) to disguise the bigger truth (they love Sophie more than they hate each other, Parker hasn't been the person who runs off to solve problems on her own for a long time, she hasn't even stabbed anyone with a fork recently)

And that performance by Sophie is really important in both scenes! She scares the mark enough so the guy in the Tap Out Job doesn't take time to check for a pulse himself before running off and Bligh believes her plan is working, doesn't question the "you need to back off" "no you" confrontation between Astrid and Parker, believes (at least for a moment) the possibility that Astrid killed Parker and gets generally unbalanced enough to make the mistakes that let them save Sophie in the end.

(and I believe that "you need to back off" argument was absolutely a performance at least on Parker's side as well. Bc it makes absolutely no sense as a conclusion. Clearly if the bad guy threatens to kill Sophie either way, you need to team up. But she knows they're being watched and she also knows Tara is on route so she performs and stalls for time)

Day two of watching Arcane. I'm not sure how many episodes I'll be watching, maybe the whole rest of the first season. We'll see.

Episode four, season one, Happy Progress Day! Oh, my lord. Bro, I feel so bad for Viktor. Like, I know he wasn't trying to take the credit since it was Jayce who discovered it, but imagine being one of the founding fathers of an innovative piece of technology, and nobody ever knew. All they knew about was your partner. DID HEIMERDINGER NOT SAY ANYTHING?? WHAT THE FUCK, THAT WAS YOUR ASSISTANT, DUDE. And, Jinx... Girl, what in the hell? Girl, you're better than this. C'mon.

Update pt. 2; Episode five, season one, Everybody Wants to Be My Enemy. VIKTOR, MY LOVE, MY LITTLE GENIUS. YOU MUST LIVE. DON'T YOU DARE DIE SO EARLY ON. Was very disappointed by the pseudo sex scene that went on between Jayce and Mel. JAYVIK SUPREMACY!! ✊✊ Kinda funny, though, how that scene was going on and constantly shifted to Viktor being angry. Again, I know this was probably done to show a difference in energy between but, like... How do you not see the gay annotations behind that?? Also, Vi and Caitlyn.. Very, very cute. Love to see it. AND IMAGINE DRAGONS LITERALLY GETTING THEIR OWN Arcane OCS IN THE SHOW?? They're my favorite band, and I love that for them.

Update pt. 3; Episode six, season one, When These Walls Come Tumbling Down. "He's like my brother," JAYCE, YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP. THAT IS YOUR LOVER, NOT YOUR BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER (/hj). Only a few episodes in and they're trying to kill off my OTP. I know they're doing it on purpose because of the one person who hates the ship, but COME ON. LET THEM BREATHE AND BE GAY. Okay, but, real talk? BABY VIKTOR IS SO FUCKING CUTE. HE'S JUST A LITTLE GUY, OH, MY GOD. I normally don't feel (platonic) affection towards child versions of my favorite characters, BUT VIKTOR IS THE EXCEPTION. Jinx got some reflecting to do methinks. AND THEY TOOK VI?? WHAT ABOUT CAITLYN?? HELL NO, BRO.

Update pt. 4; Episode seven, season one, The Boy Savior. VIKTOR, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING, MAN?? DON'T END UP LIKE RIO. Man, oh, man, oh, man. Please, save my mans. Jayce, save your mans. GODDAMN. Ekko looks sick as hell. Love the design choice. And the whole fight he had with Jinx was great.

Update pt. 5; Episode eight, season one, Oil and Water. Caitlyn and Vi had their break-up scene already?? They'll make up, I'm sure of it (let me believe, guys—). VIKTOR, I SWEAR TO GOD, WHAT DID I JUST SAY?? DO 👏 NOT 👏 END 👏 UP 👏 LIKE 👏 RIO. Yes, you can walk and run again, and it's very beautiful, BUT YOU JUST BLEW UP SKY BY ACCIDENT. MAN, WHAT THE FUCK?? Also, Jayce is so hot when he's angry and swinging that hammer around. 🤭🤭 And you gotta cut that creepy shit out, Jinx. People will think you're a pervert. She got the iconic purple eyes now, though!

Update pt. 6; Episode nine, season one, The Monster You Created. This will be the final update for the day. Y'ALL, MY HEART IS FUCKING POUNDING. JINX, DON'T YOU DARE KILL MY VIKTOR AND JAYCE. MY JAYVIK. LET THEM LIVE. I did not expect to cry when Silco died, honestly, but I suppose he grew on me just a little. He was an enjoyable character. The whole "glow in the dark" fight sequence was really cool. I always love when that's done in animations. GUESS I GOTTA WAIT TO START SEASON TWO, THOUGH. FUCK.

Welp guess who's back again. Simultaneously took longer, and shorter than intended, but I've got something in the works, but have something to show for it now at least!

It's an AU that is.. yet to have a name, but the basis is that all cookies have animal features! :]

With that in mind, here's the two designs I've got so far!

(Putting them under a cut so the post isn't too long, lol)

Pure Vanilla, a sheep with warm wool, and an equally warm smile. The king of the Vanilla kingdom, he's a gentle and calm healer, and though he has incredible expertise in magic of all kinds, retains healing and protection as his specialties. He really likes his space and his privacy, despite how friendly he is.

I'm not sure about the staff I gave him, but we'll see... It still has the same functionality as his usual orchid staff, just.. a couple more flowers that are much, much smaller. His usual outfit is the one on the right, which is basically his canon outfit, but with the addition of lotsa fluff, hehe! The left is an alternative outfit inspired somewhat by the Pastel Blue costume, because I love it a lot hehehe!

Shadow Milk Blueberry Milk, an eccentric and theatrical rabbit who lives in Pure Vanilla's dreams, quite literally. His situation is somewhat of a mystery to Pure Vanilla, but he knows the rabbit is rather lonely without him. Blueberry Milk is full of jokes, excitement and energy, making every night entertaining through a handmade stageplay, or an intriguing conversation. He's incredibly intelligent despite his chipper and lax attitude, which shows clearest in deeper conversations.

His design is very inspired by the statue seen in Episode 7, though also with definite use of Shadow Milk's current design, and referencing his sprites a little, especially for colors. He might get some design changes over time, mostly adding some details perhaps? His outfit feels a little too plain for him methinks... haveta think about it I suppose :3

In Pure Vanilla's dreams, he'd made a friend unlike any other, and they ended up becoming closer and closer to each other after years and years of talking each and every night. After all, Blueberry already knew Vanilla's deepest secret, so for once, there was nothing for him to hide... which I'll get into later. ;]

I will note, some other characters and their animals have been figured out but not too many. I have most of the other ancients, and some of the other beasts though!

(EDIT: SOME DETAILS LISTED BELOW HAVE BEEN RETCONNED ALREADY... SORRY ABOUT THAT.(When I have a masterpost, I'll be so powerful...))

Dark Cacao: Moose Golden Cheese: Bird(Wow, shocker.. still haven't figured out what kind yet though, because it will be more specific than 'bird') White Lily: Mantis(Possibly Orchid Mantis) Hollyberry: I'm trying to decide between Draconic or a Bear.. hmm...

Mystic Flour: Spider Burning Spice: Lion Honestly don't know enough about the other two beasts to decide for them quite yet methinks..

Here's some more loose ideas I have for other characters:

Werewolf is going to be a wolf, obviously. Cream Ferret, Fig, Kumiho and Cream Unicorn are along the same lines for obvious reasons. Crunchy Chip will also be a wolf most likely(unless I get a better idea(unlikely)) I think Rye should be either a cow or horse I would like the faeries to be bugs, specifically along the lines of butterflies and moths The mer cookies like Crimson Coral, Sorbet Shark, Frilled Jellyfish, Squid Ink, etc. probably will mostly remain how they are, and same with the dragons. Chili Pepper might be a raccoon, or a weasel because I think it'd be funny Strawberry I think is gonna be some kind of cat. Not sure about Wizard and Gingerbrave right now though

Bora's Master Adventures, aka I played AkuNeko doodle compilation

Working Title: Lato enamored me with his penchant for violence and extremely polite speech but the designs were so banging that I had to illustrate my silly experience playing this weird but very loveable game. Fennesz is here for moral support.

Note: I only really have read up till the end of the Ball arc. Though I do know some spoilers from watching the stageplay clips and listening to the stageplay album, all the following doodles are my first impressions from the game up until Episode 1, Part 2, Chapter 32 (´･ω･`)b

Obsession at First Mention

"There is a butler who lives in the basement floor called Lato, please be careful around him." "Oh no." "He (Lato) might become my fave" *He indeed became my fave lol

I looked at the red flag Berrian gave us and went "Oh okay. So I'm a bull now ig" It did not help that his design is so memorable but all the butlers have super distinct designs that have so much character packed into them. TBH I think my favourite design goes to Fennesz, the butterfly motif is enchanting and the way his outfit both matches and clashes against Haures is so fascinating.

(We will not talk about how I struggled so hard drawing Berrian. Bro should not be that difficult to draw)

AkuNeko having the choice to play either as a female or male Master is peak actually?? Like it changes nothing lol but just having that option is so good. I use Boku and Watashi as my Japanese personal pronouns of choice so reading the Master option as Ore was jarring www I'm just a polite liddol guy, pwease

I did like the village scene tho. Ammon is probably the character I've changed my opinion fastest about, he's just doing his best and a little bit of an idiot about it. I will hear no slander about him.

I like to cycle between Fennesz and Lato on my homescreen but whoever is on there is wearing a dress either way. I did indeed use screenshots to build the base of the last photo but one day I really do want to sit down and just try and learn the AkuNeko art style bc its so distinct and the colours pop so well while staying with the gothic aesthetic.

Fennesz is unexpectedly very cute when he blushes....

Animal Ears Gang

Muu is cute methinks. Not as annoying as other mascot characters but theres a lot of potential for him to grow in the story! I hope we get to see him grow up to be a wonderful butler ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

I honestly wasn't expecting to like AkuNeko all that much. I only really got into it because of the stageplay so to realize that the game is just as fun and the art is something I could definitely see myself trying to learn is really nice. The features like the study and stretches is also weirdly helpful? I've been using it every so often and setting up my own 15 min writing sprints with Lato breathing down my neck the whole time is actually kind of funny.

Will I continue playing? Who knows. The fact that my reading comprehension has improved by leaps and bounds since I downloaded the game is irreverent

Hmm, I think they aren’t super close, but those who are closer in age are more likely to be friendly with each other + those who have the same mom (let’s be honest, there is no way all of the Asim kids were born by one lady). And the younger ones probably love Kalim much more than the older ones, both because he is better at connecting with kids + because the older ones technically still have a chance to take Kalim’s place if they’re lucky. But they’re never openly antagonistic; the “default” state for all of them is that Kalim is their beloved older brother that is always playful, fun and kind.

There absolutely are some of the Asim siblings that are obsessed with Kalim and THERE ABSOLUTELY ARE some of the Asim siblings that are obsessed with Jamil!! Imagine looking at Jamil your whole life and not getting obsessed?? lol Jamil would probably think that his own little Asim fanclub is the worst thing to ever exist (having Kalim only is troublesome enough…), but wait until he learns about the KaliJami fanclub… Kalim’s little sisters watching these two always being together and being closer to each other than Kalim is to his actual real brothers? They absolutely ship them lol

Kalim really is such a toddler though… And while I don’t think his wish to see Jamil and himself “as brothers” is in any way related to anything brocon-like, I do think that he really wants to express that his bond with Jamil is special.

Alright, now we’re entering the people-are-annoying territory.

Yeah, Anon, this is one of the most annoying things. When they cancel a piece of media + an author + everyone who enjoys the same piece of media, at least it’s somewhat consistent. Still quite stupid, but it’s not trying to sit on two chairs at once. But when they harass artists and writers that are doing fan-content for a piece of media, but then completely ignore when the said piece of media does it… I always remember that twitter argument about how Ortho isn’t shota-bait and therefore the antis have all the rights to enjoy twst since they aren’t weirdos, plus all the endless talks about how Ciel isn’t at all sexualized in the manga and how there is nothing at all sensual in the way the official manga art for Kuroshitsuji is drawn… at times things that they say sound honestly quite concerning (i.e. things that they consider platonic or fatherly), and if I didn’t know for a fact that these people are just bluffing, I would’ve become worried about their own life experiences. But yeah, thankfully, this is just them trying to punish people for thirsting for twst characters and then somehow do it themselves without being called out for it. They enjoy that piece of media critically, which means they’re off the hook! Not like the “weirdos”!

Also yep, you’re completely right: the developers/the authors tend to distance themselves from the type of fans that ultimately negatively impact the enjoyment people get from their product, and it’s never the type of people who ship characters and draw smut with them. Really makes you think.

A while ago I found a good deal on some That '70s Show scripts, and I impulsively bought them! See below for a detailed breakdown of what is different between the table read script and what actually aired.

Next up: S2xE22 "Jackie Moves On" (note that it is episode 221 on the script 👀... production order vs airing order). There were a lot of changes/re-writes in this episode! See below for details.

The Production Schedule for the week:

First difference: the entire cold open! I wonder why it was re-written. 🧐

In the episode that aired, the cold open starts with Eric and Donna entering the basement together, and the rest of the gang (except Jackie) is already there. They jump into the same conversation about how Jackie isn't doing well, but with different dialogue.

The scenes are extremely similar and end up in the same place - with Fez's ninja warrior fantasy. The Eric/Donna fan in me loves the little moment between them that's written here & wishes it stayed, though! Eric loves the way Donna smells after a bath, *lol*. (This is a continued characterization! He made similar comments to her in That Disco Episode in season 1...)

The next scene, in the Forman kitchen, is slightly different too. Eric and Laurie's banter is different:

And the kids discuss what they will do for dinner that night while Red and Kitty are at Frenchie's. Red's mom's necklace isn't brought up at all in this scene (unlike in the actual episode)! He just mentions breaking out the nice jewelry.

Red & Kitty's next scene, when they head out to dinner, is different. I like Red's little fantasy at the beginning, where he seems to be talking to himself in the mirror and imagining how their evening out will go. 🤣

Hyde and Laurie's next scene is slightly different, too. It's not pictured here, I'm just going to summarize it. Hyde remarks that his dinner of frank and beans was good and hearty, but that Laurie only ate a few bites of toast and some water. They exchange slightly different burns, but it leads to the same moment: Eric coming in and Hyde and Laurie teaming up to burn him.

Next up is Fez's scene in the restaurant with Jackie (also different!). Here are the changed parts:

The next scene (not pictured), with the 4 guys in the basement, is slightly different as well but wasn't noteworthy enough to screenshot. The scene ended up in the same place - Eric inadvertently reveals his childhood summer camp nickname (Dr. Pee Pee) and when Kelso burns him, he reveals Kelso's (Big Chief Brown Bottom). 😆

Red and Kitty's next scene (not pictured) is pretty similar: they're back from dinner but Kitty is upset Red keeps bringing up his mother's necklace (they call it a turtle pendant in this draft of the script). She eventually reveals she pawned it, and she doesn't feel bad because she used it for groceries. Red exits and she immediately tells Eric she actually feels very bad. Eric asks if she had a lot of wine at dinner and she says more than she should've, *lol*.

Jackie and Donna's scene on the front porch is almost identical - including Jackie's fantasy about turning into the blueberry girl from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory - until this part:

The next scene is with the guys & Laurie in the basement - again, very similar, but some slight changes. I laughed out loud at a few of these cut lines!

Red & Kitty's last scene (not pictured) is very similar to the final version. Kitty apologizes to him, Red forgives her, and they both discuss how they did what they had to do to make ends meet as a family but that thankfully things are much better now. The scene ends with them deciding to go back to the pawn shop and reclaim their stuff *lol*

The final scene with the gang on the driveway is again different! Jackie shows up and she's back to her normal self, but she doesn't pull Fez aside for their little chat. There's also another cut Eric/Donna moment 😭 And a little Jackie/Hyde/(Kelso) one, methinks 👀

The credits are the same - Eric is napping on the couch and Laurie puts his hand in warm water and says "Sweet dreams, Dr. Pee Pee."

So, in conclusion - almost every scene in this table read draft script was different from what actually aired in the episode. The general spirit of the scene was always the same, but a lot of lines were changed from this script to what ultimately aired. I wonder why that was! And I wonder how that worked, logistically. It appears they did the Table Read on Monday and shot the episode on Friday (some scenes earlier, actually, because of pre-shoots). That's not a lot of time for the cast to re-learn all of their lines! Show biz, baby.

also just caught up on the latest dunmeshi episodes today and im so happy to see more of kabru that guy is So Intriguing to me. keep in mind that i havent read the manga so i dont really know what his whole deal is yet but i Need to dissect him like a lab specimen under a microscope. which seems to be a very kabruesque thing to say in the first place. his impulse to Figure People Out is SO understandable to me literally girl same i dont think ive ever had a conversation without doing that in the background at all times. except that i really dislike when thats shown as proof that a connection isnt genuine? in kabrus case it *seems* to be portrayed as if him analyzing others puts him at a distance from them. reading between the lines like that is a lot like stepping outside of a game to watch it from a meta perspective and therefore close to looking at others as being "below" you, which is again really easy to push into cynicism territory but at the same time it just depends on how you frame it methinks. what is 'playing a persona' and 'calculating' to one can be 'curious' and 'observant' to another & it matters a LOT how the character themself sees it because it's up to them whether they make it genuine or machiavellian, without the action itself actually changing on the outside. this is Not a dunk on how kabru is written ofc just my thoughts about how acting friendly n laid back to get to see more of a person in an interaction can be both seen as manipulative OR considerate of their comfort in a conversation while still getting to know them. i think the line lies in the degree of how willing to sympathize the one doing the Figuring Out is. as in you probably wouldnt want to talk to someone knowing that theyre only doing it to pick your brain apart while staying completely emotionally uninvolved/judging you but if they simply were very dedicated to understanding you because they want to get to know you better it's SIGNIFICANTLY less creepy. then theres still the issue of distance and control because in both these cases the analyzing one puts themselves in a much less vulnerable position, but while maybe not The Healthiest Mindset for the person doing it i still believe it can make for a perfectly functional positive dynamic. from what ive seen so far kabru is fluid at reading between the lines, level-headed and generally friendly & open, but it's the kind of openness that puts you in control of an interaction just enough to avoid situations where you might become vulnerable, which goes very well with the level-headed thing. still im too early into the series to tell whether that's an actual thing or just my projections so take that as a bunch of my loose notes abt being a well adjusted human person that ive decided to share just for fun👍

For Oz, I've been ranting in @/pilot-nobody's dms for weeks now that we deserved a bare-knuckle brawl between Kareem and Arif in the middle of the night. Like no build-up, no explanation. That's what would start the fight. Kareem being a total lil bitch and just dragging Arif for filth. Poking him in the chest and calling him a pitiful leader, etc. And Arif takes it until he doesn't.

Three broken CO jaws later, they're finally pulled apart and hospital bound because they're both pretty vicious fighters and strong. No clear winner.

And when they're healed up and dragged into McManus' office so he can know what the hell that was about?

"We had a difference of opinion. The matter is solved. It won't happen again."

They refuse to answer beyond that and it becomes a legend of sorts.

It basically follows a similar au to another fic with the same pairing where Tej is leading a secret double life on top his other secret double life while also cheating on his girlfriend with his best friend, who is contemplating leaving him due to the stress of worrying.

I had an idea for a community episode the other day that would give Shirley an actual plot line that takes her religion seriously (which she deserves methinks) that could fit into community as it currently is. it would be an episode where her plot line would follow her going on this journey with her religion, researching the beliefs of gay Christians and lgbtq friendly churches and all that because she wants to be a good friend to Troy and Abed and knows her religion at its core is about love, not hate. probably Britta is also with her in this plot line, being genuinely helpful in between “Britta is the worst” moments where she makes bold and obviously incorrect statements about both Christianity and the lgbtq community.

the plot line would end with Shirley giving a very sweet and sincere speech to Troy and Abed about how her opinions have changed and she doesn’t want them to think that her being a Christian prevents her from accepting them for who they are and at the end they’re like “ah that was really sweet shirley but we’re not dating” and Shirley can have a joke where she’s like “oh yes my mistake, not dating… boy-dating? gay-dating? what do you call it when two gay men are going out?” and they’re like “we’re not going out we’re just best friends.”

and if it wanted to end on a joke Shirley could be like “I spent all this time researching for nothing?” and Pierce could say something like “not for nothing, Jeff and Britta will feel more comfortable talking about their gay and lesbian lifestyles now” but if it wanted to end on a positive and more sincere note, Shirley being openly accepting of gay people could have been something her kids saw her doing and maybe one of them comes out to her and she thanks Troy and Abed for their whole thing and then the joke could be her saying something like “even if you aren’t dating, you’re gay to me ❤️” and they make faces like ‘aw that’s sweet’ before making faces like ‘okay actually that’s a little weird to say’

- haven’t seen this come up on my dash yet but there’s something there about fraud dude, the idea of someone who was in a position of trust, who *appeared* to be an altruistic person actually using people for their own selfish ends, and then stopping his own heart to try to escape the consequences only to end up dying when the damage he’d done to himself caught up with him. I mean it’s the kind of karmic retribution shit that 911 loves to dole out, but it being directly connected to the ongoing heart theme and happening in an episode with the Buck-Eddie of it all being so fraught is important methinks

- that whole flavour of the scene at Marie’s grave was different to anything I’ve seen between the two of them, at least since the shooting - the way Eddie was clearly frustrated with Buck, letting everything show (for him) and talking over him. I’m not saying we’re headed for another Supermarket Divorce Scene(tm), but I think Eddie is going to break before the season is over like a messy piñata spilling all over Buck, or at least I hope.

Thoughts on Uprising ep17 “Rendezvous”

- cold open: so Beck’s got a CRUSH crush, huh? like, kiddo’s got it BAD, methinks. at least he isn’t lying to Tron about it (also hello Tron, it’s nice to see you after you went on that two episode vacation with Able, or whatever)! I will take only so much secret-keeping between friends, and I guess Beck decided since he’s still being bitter about Cyrus, he’ll at least admit what he’s doing with the fucking enemy. tho Beck is right, Paige IS different from the rest of Clu’s army and the occupation; she actually has a heart. and like. empathy. she also apparently likes a little thrill ride, as we see from her idea of a date! okay then!!!

- atop the bridge tower, Beck and Paige have a bit of a heart to heart. Beck is obviously (to the viewer, anyway) trying to cultivate Paige to be turned, but I can’t say it’s going to be very effective. Beck doesn’t actually know her backstory; nor does he know the truth the audience knows. Paige thinks she owes her life to General Tesler; she sees him as the person who saved her when she’d lost everything to the perfidious Isos. and as long as she thinks that, believes that? she’s gonna stay with Tesler.

- related note: it makes me SO MAD that there weren’t six seasons and a movie of this show, like FOR REAL. everything about Paige’s character SCREAMS “I am going to switch sides before this story is done”—she’s empathetic as hell, not willing to risk innocent programs even though she works for a regime that sees them as basically cannon fodder. she has a neatly tragic backstory, which has been taken advantage of by the primary villain of the show. she’s never shown doing anything REALLY VERY BAD. she has an enemy of her own in Pavel. it is like a CLASSIC Zuko setup! AND WE WILL NEVER KNOW HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO END, because I very highly DOUBT that this plot thread is gonna be resolved in the next two episodes!! FUCK ME.

- anyway, let’s talk about Pavel being the World’s Biggest Douchebag. the weapon from “Price of Power” has apparently finally repaired itself, and he just. decides to test it out on some imprisoned programs! because he’s a douche and an asshole and that’s just how he does! and Paige has decided to—I mean, she basically puts a target on her back by giving Pavel an ultimatum. which. I feel like she should KNOW BETTER by now??? I don’t know. Pavel’s dedication to being The Worst and also for grabbing at whatever bit of power he can muster and like. you don’t give assholes like that the chance to strike back at you!!!!!! girl!!!! this is where her empathy gets her into trouble, because like…….. she’s willing to give Pavel the chance to come clean, whereas Pavel immediately sees an opportunity to get her out of his way, because he is Exactly That Kind of Asshole. UGHHHHHHHH. I HATE THIS SHOW.

- OH HEY IT’S GORN AGAIN. I was wondering if she was gonna show up again and she does!!! also those little centipede guys both Look and Sound like the Worst News. also I don’t like her assistant AT ALL, he’s just very creepy. but Pavel has been given an opportunity with Paige’s ultimatum and he’s not about to let that pass and see himself get into trouble with Tesler.

- on their Second Date, Beck once again tries to broaden Paige’s perspective a little. though her comment about masks almost makes him give something Vital away, and EEK. and then Pavel shows up and is The Worst and so on and Beck gets himself arrested, too, and it’s just bad? this is all very BAD???? I DO NOT LIKE.

- you know what else I DO NOT LIKE??? THE MEMORY IMPLANT SCENE. holy SHIT on a list of the horrifying things this show has done, this is going PRETTY DAMN CLOSE TO THE TOP. also I’m fascinated that the centipede thing (I didn’t catch their names because I turned captions off to watch Game Changer last night and forgot to turn them back on) goes into Paige’s disc portrait and SHE FEELS IT????? which feeds more into my theory from “Identity” that programs are not their bodies; they’re their code, and that code is stored on the disc. anyway, the memory implant scene is HORRIFYING and ICKKKKKK and also Paige’s screams are terrible and UGHHHHHH GIRLLLLLL………

- and since Pavel has made Paige into a guilty program, she decides to act like it and gets her and Beck broken out of the prison. the breakout scene is way cool, and thankfully Beck doesn’t have to do any fighting and possibly give away his Biggest Secret. and then Paige thinks he’s innocent and wants to spare him and stuff, which—empathy, again, I love that in her. UGH. Beck of course was trying to get her out to Tron, methinks, but…… like, she’s still in too deep! she still thinks Tesler gives a shit about her (which he does not) and that Pavel has been mixed up by someone else!!! UGH.

- Paige does what is perhaps not the Smartest Thing and immediately goes to Gorn in Pergos and……….. gets herself caught by Tesler and her false memory paraded in front of him and DAMN did Pavel play her good!!!! he may have been right, last episode, about her being “predictable.” and Tesler’s playing Disappointed Dad kind of with all this “I saved your life” bullshit and just. SAVE IT ASSHOLE, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID. FUCK YOU. FUCK EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS.

- after the commercial break, we see Paige in the Games where she is gladiatoring the SHIT out of her opponents!! Tesler’s getting antsy about it, and Pavel volunteers to face her—with a little help from the weapon. she gets into a spot of trouble, Pavel knocks her down to her death—but Beck-as-Renegade is there to save the day!!!! KIND OF. once again: Paige has no compunctions about killing the guy who’s saving her life, which I find utterly hilarious (at least a little removed from it, because I was cussing a LOT while it was happening).

- they have a conversation on the bridge tower, and Beck tries SO HARD to get her to switch sides, but the fact of the matter is, she still thinks she has a life worth living in Clu’s army under Tesler. she still thinks she can get the truth out and proclaim her innocence and get everything she’s worked so hard for to stay in her life. she’s not ready yet. and it kind of breaks my heart for them both, not only because I know the truth about Tesler’s taking her under his wing, but also because Beck!!!! poor kiddo!!!!!!!!! UGH. (I think this ship is gonna kill me more than Zed/Mara. at least Zed and Mara are already friends!!!!)

- and then, as Paige is trying to escape the city, Tesler catches her and oh—! it’s all been a big misunderstanding!!! Pavel cleared it all up, don’t you see!!!!!! THE RENEGADE DID THIS TO YOU. IT’S ALL OKAY, COME BACK!!!!! and meanwhile I am SCREAMING at my TV because FUCK BOTH OF THEM. FUCK THEM BOTH. I HATE THEM BOTH. maybe not EQUALLY (Pavel is a garden-variety asshole; Tesler is actively Cruel), but GOD I HATE THEM BOTH. FUCK. FUCK THEM BOTH.

- coda: Beck’s waiting for their third date, and then Paige has to break it off because she thinks he made her act weak/soft/whatever and UGH. better luck next time, kiddo, except there won’t BE a next time because there are only two episodes left in the entire show and at least one of them is about Cyrus, SO!!!!!!! FUCK. someone needs to invent an alternate universe machine so I can go to the universe where Uprising got six seasons and a movie.

- I’ve gotta say, the show has REALLY hit its stride, which makes me mad (again) that it only got one season!!!!!! it’s so GOOD!!!!!!! like, the episodes following “Scars” have not been as devastatingly Good as “Scars”, but damn if they haven’t been uniformly entertaining and watchable and decent!!!!!! FUCK ME. I love this show too much!!!!!!!! FUCK.

Okay, some random costume rambling ahead, please buckle your seatbelts.

Because I'm just SO not over this. Also, I apologize in advance for only pointing out the obvious or just getting lost in the hype, but, ugh, what's there these days if not the HYPE huh?

So yeah, the costuming, as many have pointed out in way more elaborate ways already, is just so on-point for the two. And I just can't keep myself from obsessing about it.

So, let's suffer through it together, shall we?

Let's talk contrast first.

Something that really struck me in the last couple of episodes was the contrasts in color when it came to the costumes we saw for Buck and Eddie.

We started the second half the season with those two dorks in the kitchen with almost black and white. Sure, Buck's is dark blue (which is also a nice nod to him being in the firefighter position, thus closely resembling the uniform color vs. Eddie being in civvies and a high contrast white), but they wear highly contrasting colors. The difference in brightness is almost jarring, though it perfectly underlines the drift we see between them at that point.

And guess what this called me back to? Oh yeah.

Buck and Eddie contrasting too hard a) tends to end in disaster and b) is beautifully turned on its head here. Last time, Buck in the dark colors showed him at one of the lowest points in his life and Eddie getting him out. In this scene, we saw both trapped on their side, not really finding a way to connect. And it will conclude later on with Buck getting Eddie out.

The trend of contrasting them continues throughout. In that same episode, we have the switch from white and black undershirt or hoodie, coupled with a contrasting piece:

I guess Eddie retreating to those "natural" colors (50 Shades of Army Green I guess, but we'll talk camouflage later) is already a big hint about his trauma from his time in military coming back up. He's going back to the color scheme of that time, it'd seem. But again, contrast is high, just like them standing at times in different light (Eddie in front of a red/orange background, and Buck having also blue (and red) backgrounds). Yet again, they both literally and figuratively stand on opposite sides of the room and the color scheme.

The communication fails (breaks off as Eddie leaves after Buck texted him to come, realizing that he feels out of place at that gathering because he's not with the firefighters right now), they can't occupy the same space. And shit just goes down thereafter.

We find another variant of that with Buck contrasting Taylor (and to a lesser degree Eddie, too).

Issues arising between the two moving in together for all the wrong reasons is also highlighted by the stark contrast of Buck's and Taylor's clothing. They don't match. They wear almost the exact same color scheme as Eddie and Buck did during Outside Looking In, just that this time, Buck's in the white and Taylor in the dark blue.

Hint much that we see the contrast/coupling between a romantic pairing and the Buddie buddies? Hmmmmmm. Methinks not.

Also interesting again to me is how both almost disappear into the background here. Eddie matches the interior of Frank's office. It's gray, cold colors that make him look ashen. Buck fades into the background of the white walls. Like he doesn't exist in his own apartment right now whereas Taylor is much more present (as well as all of those boxes, seriously, she and Ana would get along on that one, all those salads, all those cupcakes, all those boxes...).

And another, just coz I can:

I'll have to dig some more into the blue/red thing in a minute (read 10), but the contrast is also very interesting to me here. While Buck stepped in (inside looking out, I guess), we're still at the very beginning of Eddie's journey towards accepting his problems (and help) and choosing to keep up with therapy. So their clothes still very much contrast the other. Eddie's shirt is greenish, blueish (also still reminiscent of the dream sequence), which makes him almost merge with the couch visually. Buck is the stark contrast to that in the episode before, with red (opposite color). His undershirt's matching Eddie's colors more closely, though.

So throughout the beginning of the second half of season 5, we see Buck and Eddie visually at odds/on the opposite sides of the color scheme. It's a beautiful way to highlight the drift visually while also creating a connection. To figure out what we have in common, we often look at what's different between us. Or in that same vain, in order to come up with definitions, we rely on boundaries. Though setting those boundaries always connects the two.

Speaking of...

And now, from the contrast to harmonization.

While Buck and Eddie are still contrasting in terms of brightness in this scene, the colors are now leaning more towards the same color scheme. Buck's in grey, Eddie's in dark (don't say 50 Shades again, Wacky) green/brown. Both wear textured clothes, which is something we see both of them wearing (Eddie loves 'em slutty, slutty henleys in all the... *don*t say it again* of the rainbow).

But the picture looks a lot more harmonized to me than it did e.g. during the kitchen scene in Outside Looking In. They still stand out, they don't fade into the background, their presence is visible, but they don't feel like they don't belong. Interestingly enough, in the first shot, Buck's and Eddie'd dark pants coupled with the dark wood of the table make for a visual connection.

In fact, Buck seems even more *in tune* with the house right now than Eddie is, which highlights both Buck's presence at the Diaz house as definitely-not-a-guest and also shows Eddie being at odds with himself.

Though interestingly enough, Buck's shirt matches Eddie's clothes from the dream sequence very closely in terms of colors.

Foreshadowing? Dunno, just find it interesting.

And now let's take a moment to appreciate that view for all the wrong reasons:

For one, it's a wonderful callback to the elf and the you-two-have-an-adorable-son scene with Buck wearing the darker chequers like Eddie and Eddie wearing the earthly colors Buck sported in that scene.

But again, the three of them harmonize towards the end of Dumb Luck, which highlights the first steps towards healing *together*. All wear different shades of natural, earthly colors, Chris as the lightest, Eddie matching him with the undershirt, still in the military color coding otherwise, and Buck somewhat darker, but still connected with the brown to fit right in. They fit into the scene. Eddie and Chris even more so, almost having a perfect match in terms of brightness and color.

Although, I will say Buck's and Eddie's continuous switch from very dark to very light's been very interesting for me, too. Because it continues to give me the feeling that they are going back and forth, trying to balance between extremes, and it still takes time for them to balance it out. But it feels like they are already getting there in that scene. A step closer, one at a time.

Though my guessing is that if we see them on a similar color scheme towards the end of the season or early on in the next, that might be a good indicator as to whether they are really on the right track again. At least that's my guessing.

Camouflage is next!

As pointed out earlier... many years ago, it'd seem, as I look at the watch, wondering why I'm still typing... Eddie's back on the camouflage colors. And since Tumblr is being an ass with just 10 pics per post, you'll have to scroll up again to look at it. *sigh*

Either way. Eddie's been shown continuously featuring those colors, but now with the season coming full swing when it comes to his Afghanistan trauma, I just find it oh so telling that this is one of his favored color schemes. He's retreating to colors that closely resemble that time. And especially in the last couple of episodes, they looked even more like military-style clothing. Sometimes boxy, like they don't really fit, wrinkled and disheveled during his breakdown, etc.

I also think it's not without coincidence that he featured that same color scheme when he broke up with Ana. Eddie's been working his defenses up. He's been going to war against himself and his traumas instead of dealing with them through the proper channels. And now it's coming back to him all the way.

I think it's also a nice pointer about him hiding, coz, you know, camouflage. Those colors don't stick out. Compared to what Buck tends to wear at times, he seems definitely more toned down, to the point that he sometimes fades into the background. That trend has been particularly jarring for me when he went for gray in the session with Frank. He was almost one with the gray background.

Now, onto the red and blue!

Red and blue's always a great treat for all of my fandom obsessions (seriously, I will slap that on any fandom I participate in and I WILL DO IT AGAIN). So I'll gladly go down that rabbit hole of no return.

Sure, obvious things are obvious: Red and blue make up a huge part of a show focused on firefighters. We get it. But for Buck and Eddie, I find this particularly interesting for a great many reasons.

I mean, we've seen this in all kinds of variations, surely. The contrast of blue and red, how often it features in films. Think red vs. blue pill in The Matrix (funny enough, accepting the truth (red) vs. continuing self-deception (blue) is very much what Buck and Eddie are in for as well).

Or Red Oni and Blue Oni from Japanese folklore: red as headstrong, wild and blue as more level-headed and collected, though both can inherit traits from both… in Buck's and Eddie's case one of them being that they are certified dorks who can't do math for shit.

Or general color theory/psychology with blue standing for emotions like loyalty, depression, cold, calm, and introspection – and with red representing emotions like passion, speed, desire, strength, and love and back and forth and back again and yadda.

I guess you catch my drift here.

Let's begin with *not* Buck and Eddie but Eddie and *Bobby*.

We have the factor of contrast again (Eddie matching the couch, Bobby matching the armchair lol). Also, kudos to whoever it was who pointed out that Buck moved the armchair to watch Eddie. Because that just further adds to the point and all of my feelings.

The colors are more toned down in this scene, which makes it very easy on the eye. Bobby fits in seamlessly. It's an easy transition, even after Eddie had not at all a nice transition from sleep to waking up. Both are in a darker color scale in contrast to the light background, but considering that some heavy stuff went down between them, this actually fits quite well.

Again, I think it's striking that Bobby and Buck are matching on the red, whereas we see Eddie with blue/greenish clothes. Bobby and Buck both seem to represent the life and love that Eddie so desperately needs to find his strength to continue dealing with his traumas. They represent warmth in a place where Eddie must be feeling very cold right now.

And we see that in the contrast with Buck's brightly red shirt and Eddie's toned-down blueish shirt in the dream sequence as well.

Okay, first off, Eddie's shirt is grayish not entirely blue, I know, but it has some blueish undertone if you asked me (at least it's not a warm kind of gray). Buck's red as a firetruck, which is probably already half the point. :D

🚒🚒🚒

Buck rushing in during the previous episode, breaking through that door (inside looking out) with matching red clothing is *chef's kiss* from the costuming department for all the right reasons.

Buck represents life breaking through to Eddie when he's caught up in some of his worst nightmares and the cold realization that none of the people he saved in Afghanistan are alive anymore. When he's caught up in death, Buck comes in as life, breaks the door in and steps inside.

Even when he leaves to take care of the life Eddie has and doesn't really know what to do with (taking care of Christopher in his stead for a while), Buck leaves "traces" by having Bobby come over and make sure Eddie doesn't wake up alone. Visually, Buck and Bobby are that lifeline for Eddie.

Think red strings and people that love each other that are connected by it, and then LET'S SCREECH TOGETHER.

Buck's presence lingers in Bobby's presence, it's more toned down, calm, but it's also the perfect callback to the earlier times of their relationship: Buck clearing things with Bobby, so Christopher could come over to the station when Eddie's grandma was in hospital. Even though Buck's not in the room, he made sure not to leave Eddie in the cold. The moment he's awake, someone's there, someone who's warm and loving towards him, hands him hot beverages.

And it serves as the perfect contrast to life draining out of Eddie when he is bleeding in the dream sequence like he bled from being shot by the sniper and in Afghanistan. While red was a "threat" here (bleeding), it's actually turned on its head when he wakes up and red is actually the lifeline that gets him home, back to life.

Also, as someone pointed out (though I can't find the post right now!!!) oh so brilliantly: The callback to Buck and Christopher and the tsunami arc is just also SO ON POINT.

Also also, HOW DARE THEY??? UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!

Anyway. My point is: Buck to the rescue – just that this time, he comes for Eddie. And this is such a wonderful way to bring this full circle that I can't even begin to talk about it in all of its detail.

I guess more could be said about the outfits. And people will probably have already done so or will do it better than I can in my mad rambling. But HOLY FUCKIN' SHIT. That REALLY happened. It's ACTUALLY happening.

I'm VERY curious about the next costume choice we're going to see and if there's anything to my rambling, moving forward, but as of now... I'm very content with those wonderful colors and how they feed right into my Buddie needs.
