It is only well after I left college that I figured out the fun of finding reasons to 'research' things. The treasure hunt of digging for something not easily found online. I'm not creative (or curious) enough for this to come up often but am delighted when I get the chance to explore the depths of a library's offerings.

It's also rewarding to chase down a tight run of connections. This week's has been Dicken's Fair -> a musical about "The Naming of Uranus" -> reading about historical lady mathematicians -> visiting the Suzzallo library -> getting to use the Micro Print machine!
I'm perhaps known amongst some friends for my love of pushing the printing limits in making mini books. Imagine my awe and delight at getting to hold a micro print page! Now THIS would make a tiny book!

100 pages per sheet and absolutely not legible with the naked eye! Pages were brought into focus (on the digital screen) by panning the tray about. Not only easy to use, it made reading more fun! The book I wanted was actually missing the first sheet- thankfully there was a scanned copy I could read on a library machine -- interesting to see the aged pages in the 'digital' version, but I much preferred reading the micro print (even though it too was delivered to me 'digitally' at the end)

If I'd brought my Moment macro lens I could have taken some sweet photos (and read on my phone!) -- my new Pixel 8's macro mode just barely makes the text legible.
The initial bio on Mary Somerville I read mentioned that her writing was accessible and after reading a chunk of it for 20 minutes I heartily agree. Initially published in 1834, I'm sure there's a couple copies floating around out there (the library does have a physical copy, but it's at the off-site auxiliary and requires planning/advanced notice to get ahold of) -- makes me happy to now have a title to keep an eye out for in those rare bookshops/the collectables field.

Since direct emotional expression isn’t his forte, you’ll become an expert at reading his micro-expressions, the specific type of sarcastic comment he uses when he’s secretly pleased, or the way he fidgets with his goggles when nervous.

He secretly loves being taken care of. When he’s truly exhausted or sick (which he’ll deny until he collapses), having you bring him soup, enforce rest, or just quietly sit with him means more than he’ll admit.
It takes immense trust for him to let you see his experiments blow up (literally or figuratively) without him getting overly defensive or dramatic. If he can sigh, complain about the variables, and start cleaning up with you there, you’re truly integrated into his process.

Trust - the act of feeling comfortable, safe, and cared for in a relationship.
It is a vital bedrock of a successful relationship because it allows each person to be vulnerable with the other and continue to feel supported and sustained.
It encourages teamwork, collaboration, and healthy interdependence and is a sign of emotional intelligence (or, as Esther calls it, “relational intelligence”), effective communication, mutual respect, emotional intimacy, and overall well-being.
In a romantic relationship without a foundation of trust, partners may feel uncomfortable, insecure, or anxious. Sustained trust issues or a complete lack of trust in a long-term relationship can lead to overwhelming emotional strain, burnout, breakup, and even physical and mental health problems.
How to Build Trust With a Romantic Partner
Trust is one of the building block of a healthy relationship. Here are a few different ways to build trust according to Esther:
Determine your relationship to trust and risk. In Esther’s experience, building trust starts with understanding your own needs. “Do you see yourself as someone who needs to trust first? Embrace taking micro-risks with your partner. Esther recommends taking very small risks as a way to practice trust-building in a relationship, creating a little trust at a time as you work toward deep emotional intimacy. “A micro risk … is not a specific thing,” she explains. “It’s the thing that I don’t usually do.” Examples of micro risks may be sharing information about your personal life, making an observation of the other person, challenging yourself to say “no” to something, or challenging yourself to ask for something—as long as it’s something you don’t normally do. Once you take the risk, you can see how the other person responds to it and continue building levels of trust (or identify that something isn’t working). “It's an experience that is built through mutuality and reciprocity,” Esther explains.
Learn to navigate breaches in trust. “When [trust] breaks, it feels shattered and unable to ever be put back together,” Esther says. That response is completely normal—breaches in trust hurt, especially in lasting relationships. “But, in fact, [trust] is quite malleable,” she says. “Life and new experiences, like grafting new cells on top, slowly allow us to experience the trust again.” Avoid jumping to conclusions or making hasty judgments—instead, give the other person the benefit of the doubt, allow yourself time to recover from breaches in trust, and then check in with yourself using your new life experiences to decide how to move forward and whether you can repair things. Even when trust decreases, it is possible to slowly rebuild trust through careful, hard work.

he's a military man, of course he knows how to communicate without words
though military hand signals are a bit different than sign language, he easily adapts and learns it
He's actually very respectful, and doesn't even blink at the fact that you don't speak
Lilia's met all kinds of people, so he knows about some people being mute for a variety of different reasons
I mentioned this in my deaf reader post with Malleus, but fae in Brair Valley use magic for almost everything, so they probably use it to communicate without words too
if you're capable of magic, he'd help you learn how the fae communicate silently so you can have an easier time communicating with others without speaking
that being said, if you don't want to, he's got absolutely no problem communicating with you however you want to
heck, he'd play charades if that's what you wanted to do, and he'd have a blast with it
He has no problem helping you communicate and speak with others when they struggle to understand or try talking to you and expecting you to speak
He's one that can easily fill any awkward silence and make it fun and quickly drop any tension

He's full of anxiety about doing something wrong or offensive, so he's researching mute people on the internet once he's alone
Later, he comes to you with a custom tablet to help you communicate with other quickly without the full effort of typing each time
honestly, most of the student body knows he communicates using his tablet to speak, so they're pretty used to it if that's how you do too
but if you use sign language, he develops an app to translate it automatically in real time for him and others to understand
Idia can't even pressure himself into doing things, so there's no chance he's gonna pressure you to try and speak or anything. The idea of even suggesting makes him want to disappear into the earth
the same goes for asking questions, like he thinks it'll be so embarrassing or he'll upset you by asking how/why, so he avoids asking and just accepts it

Who is Luna the Lemurian and what happened to her? - Theory and Analysis
We hear about a Lemurian called Luna in Rafayel's Abyssal Chaos commission Find Tobias. Who is she, and what happened to her? And why she might be more relevant to Rafayel's story than most realise?

Who is Luna?
In Abyssal Chaos during ‘Find Tobias’ mission we learn from Rafayel that he tried to look for a Lemurian in Vagrant’s land. He never met this Lemurian there, but supposedly she saw him, and left a Whalespeak Conch behind her.

The old lady who beat Rafayel knew Luna and gave shelter to her. After gaining her trust, the old lady gives Luna’s belongings she left behind to Rafayel since they “are like family”. Among the stuff there is a Whalespeak conch, which MC describes leaving a sound which is like a distant cry or farewell.

We learn a little bit more about Rafayel relation to Luna when they catch Elu and talk to Tobias. According to Rafayel, Luna meant a lot to him and the old lady had said they were family.

In the special ending with Rafayel, we learn Luna left behind several notes with different wishes in them.

This is most of the things we know about Luna based on the mission during Abyssal Chaos. Most likely she was Rafayel's friend, and possibly even a relative.
Luna's whereabouts and what happened to her aren't explained fully - it could be that she was kidnapped by the "Recommenders" that are mentioned during the story, who kidnap the weak who come alone and make them disappear without a trace.
What happened to Luna?
Luna’s story has a lot of similarities to Rafayel - it sounds like she fell in love with a human man, and formed the Lemurian bond with him. She most likely had to part ways with him to return back to Lemuria, hence “I wish the moon never sets” and “the tides never come”. This sounds similar how Rafayel's voice assistant describes one of his painting in Under Deepspace Chapter 2 - the tides take them back home when the night ends.

At some point, Luna left to search for her human lover and went to Vagrant’s Land, met the old lady and took shelter at her place. It could be that she fled Vagrant’s land because of Rafayel - maybe she was worried he would take her back home, and didn't want to be found by anyone. Rafayel didn’t specify why he was looking for her, but in his Siren’s Song anecdote he mentions to another Lemurian “K” that he will bring everyone home.

Luna not wanting to be found even by her own people could mean that she was truly was intending to find her lover like Rafayel suspects.
In the end the old woman says that Luna doesn't seem to be coming back. This means she was expecting her to return, but based off on the belongings (a shell, conch and notes) she left behind, they sound more like a farewell rather than essentials. It could be that she predicted that she might not return from trying to find her lover.
Who was her lover?
I have speculated quite a bit in this theory already, but now it's getting even wilder. I think it might have been Raymond. And his Lemurian skeleton in his home is Luna. MC describes the skeleton as a girl who is sitting cross-legged. For me, if I look more closely the posture, it looks like the skeleton has it's gaze towards sky, like watching the moon.

We know from Micro Universe World Underneath story that Lemurians have been experimented on for their blood in Gaia Research Center and in Abysswalker myth it's mentioned Lemurian's blood can extend someone's life expectancy or even resurrect from the dead.

It's highly likely that Raymond used Lemurian blood himself since even Zayne mentions his vital signs improving and the equipment determining his age far younger than he actually is. I have a whole theory more on Raymond's details using Lemurian blood and if Rafayel killed him, but I'll just focus on the main points relating to Luna for now.

The World Underneath story Bouquets and Dirges go more in detail with Raymond's funeral, but there are some interesting details about what Rafayel says in there. He says he is bringing the flowers to a relative's daughter, whose father can no longer give flowers.

As a side note - I think the father mentioned in this story could be K. It could be that Luna is one of those people Rafayel promised to K to return home. Maybe one reason K gave up was because of Luna not returning home, maybe even understanding what happened to her.
I feel since Death and Resurrection we might learn more about the ugly truth about the experiments that Lemurians had to endure quite soon. If my theory is even close to the truth, Luna's story is a tragic tale of when the Lemurian bond goes wrong. When they would bound with another Lemurian, their bond would be equal - neither of them have truly power over each other. But when a human , who doesn't need to adhere to the rules is bound to a Lemurian, they can exploit that bond and to descipable things to them. They have true power over Lemurians if they get to this close to them.

What a way to start your first day, with the firefighters emptying the school and finding out that the woman you had kissed the night before worked there.
On the other hand, the kids were perfect, ready as a sponge to absorb everything you had to teach. They were well-educated and learned children, you could tell that their previous teacher was really interested in them. The school also had some glitches and problems, but you didn't plan to complain now that you finally had a job.
At lunchtime, the children went out to eat and you stayed in your classroom drawing on the board to encourage them when they returned. Also, you hadn't brought food and you didn't know if going to the staff room for coffee would be the right thing to do since Melissa would be there.
-"Hey sweetheart..."-one of the oldest teachers got in your classroom with a big smile on her face-"I'm Barbara, nice to meet you. I'm the fist grade teacher..."-She stretched out her hand to greet you and you took it smiling too

As soon as you entered, you could hear how everyone was talking about the student who had smoked and what to do about it. But the subject quickly turned when everyone began to accuse each other because some of them vaped or ingested an edible from time to time, Barbara quickly intervened to add her comment

-"The devil's lettuce" - Barbara said
-"That's why your feet are so big" - The janitor said and you looked at her feet curious, they were a little big for her high...
They started to acuse her, specially Ava, but the teacher you didn't knew his name yet, stood up for her
-"Ava you can't talk,okay? you are a hookah head" - He said and the principal nodded
-"Mhhh hhhm, facts. And micro dosing, I just eyeball it and said, yes that's enough" - Ava simply said
-"Now, I don't smoke, but I do enjoy a protein bar edible on the weekends. Research actually shows..."-The guy who defended Janine started talking again and Ava rolled her eyes
-"Wooow, this man just made drugs boring"-she nodded
-"I suggest that you all drop your vices, and take a hit of my drug of choice J-E-S-U-S, street name Christ! - Barbara said and everyone put a boring face on, Melissa scoffed this time lifting her finger
-"Uh, you've been known to demolish those little bottles of Chardonnay" - The redhead said pointing at her friend
-"And you snort that liquid Marijuana" - The friend quickly replied to her
-"You don't snort it, it's CBD oil, and I rub it on my joints" - You listened to her and couldn't avoid thinking about helping her rub that oil in her soft smooth skin, a small whimper escaped your lips, everyone kept talking but the redhead listened and looked at you, turning a little bit red.
The janitor was about to speak but Janine stoped him
-"Don't finish that sentence" - she quickly said pointing at you and it was your turn to blush thinking that someone else heard your little whimper, but everyone stood and walked right out, chasing a student that was hiding behind you and recording all the conversation. You quickly ran after him like everyone else, and you were the first to get him
-"Nice work speedy" - Ava said. Everyone began to interrogate the boy about the video, but before anything could be done he had already shared it and many people had seen it, so the school district immediately took the matter in their own hands, again.
A few hours later, everyone in the school already had seen the video and F.A.D.E came to the school to give a talk about substances and drugs, to make some damage control.
After taking your children to the gym, Barbara invited you to sit with her and Melissa since there was a free space next to the redhead, and you had no choice but to accept since there were no more free spaces around.
You spent the whole talk giving her not so discreet glances out of the corner of your eye, a little overwhelmed by not knowing how to talk to her without making her feel uncomfortable. After torturous hours of listening to meaningless rhymes and bad advice, the meeting ended and still neither you nor she had spoken a word to each other.
Before you knew it, the day of school was over and your new students had gone home. Without thinking much about things and concecuenses, you went to the teachers' room to ask the redhead if the plans of the night before were still standing. Thank heavens, the redhead was in the teachers' room packing some of her Tupperware and none of the other teachers were there.
-"Hola Mel" -You said and she looked at you with a little bit of annoyance in her face
-"Tell me the truth please, what are you doing here?" - she asked and you frowned
-"I was looking for you, to ask..."-you started talking but she interrupted you
-"No, I don't mean here in the teacher's room, I mean in the school" -she barked at you
-"I have a job here..."-you answer and you saw fear in her eyes-"Look, I applied for the job way before we find each other in that bar, I'm not stalking you or anything and I'm sorry if it makes you feel uncomfortable to see me here, but I really need this job and I'm not gonna let it go"-You answered confidently and she sighed
-"I'm really sorry, I've dated people who weren't very stable and I was scared when I first saw you... I thought maybe you were a little obsessive."-She whispered embarrassedly, avoiding looking at you and playing with the lid of one of her tupperware containers nervously
-"Don't take it the wrong way, you're beautiful Melisa, but it would take more than one kiss from you to drive me crazy for you" - You joked and she barely laughed, still embarrassed. You carefully approached her side, delicately taking one of her trembling hands, immediately she raised her head looking at you and you smiled- "Look, last night I had a very nice and fun night with you but I thought we would never see each other again since we didn't share our numbers and I was a little embarrassed to ask your brother for your contact, but this morning the universe gave me another opportunity to see you again and that makes me very happy. But if you don't feel comfortable with me being here, it's okay and I understand, I'll keep my distance. You don't need to feel scared or helpless, you can choose what you want to do"-You whispered looking at her trying to calm her down and she smiled at you with a little embarrassment
-"I want to... I want to go on with our previous plan and go out with you, if you think that's okay... Maybe go to dance to a good bar if you know a Latin one with good music?" - she said and you smiled more. You gave her a chance to walk away but she didn't and that made you happier than you wanted to admit.
-"Hey guys, you are still here!"-Jacob entered the teacher's room and you immediately let go of the redhead's hand-"Ready to go home Mel-Mel?" - He asked and she looked at you, you looked at her smiling a little bit-"Am I interrupting something?" - He asked and the redhead got nervous again
-"Not at all... I just invited her for a few drinks to make some friends since I'm new here" - You quickly said and he nodded
-"Can I join? I'm fun to be around. I know some pretty good bars" - Jacob offered
-"You can if Melissa wants to... But I already picked the bar, a gay latin bar" - You said and his smile grew a lot
-"You are gay?" - He asked and you nodded - "I'm gay too! Oh- my - god, are we best friends already?" - The young guy asked and Mel looked at him a little embarrassed for his behavior
-"Not yet, but we are off too a good start"-You said making the redhead laugh-"let's go, it's too late and my body needs a glass immediately after a day like today"
Melissa and her roomate followed you, but along the way the others found you and also joined in, including the school's cameramen, which you were not yet used to seeing.
When everyone entered the bar, the music was playing with a good beat, the food was delicious and there were many friendly people. Quickly everyone settled down and ordered drinks and food, you were about to sit next to the redhead but Ava beat you and sat next to you
-"Hi, I read your file, so you're latin... I know a little bit of spanish..."-she tried to remember and smiled looking at you in a flirtatious way-"Está muy caliente y deliciosa(It's very hot and delicious), they used to tell me that when I went to Cuba, they kept telling me I was hot and delicious every time I went to any restaurant or bar" - She said proudly and you smiled trying no to laugh, maybe they told her that because they were serving her food, not talking specifically about her but you will not burst her bubble
-"That's a very good accent Ava" - You said smiling and kept talking to her. Meanwhile, the redhead was looking at you with squinting eyes, she knew that you and she barely knew each other, but she also knew how Ava was and how much she liked to flirt and she wouldn't let that happen with you, your attention was better when it was directed at her, Ava could find herself another person to flirt with.
-"Hey honey, do you want to dance?" - The redhead asked standing next to you, her jacket was slightly open and as you were sitting, her cleavage was right in front of your eyes when you looked up to look at her and answer, which made you blush
-"Y-yeah, sure, let's go" - You took her hand and headed for the dance floor a little confused, she immediately placed her hands around your neck and directed yours to her waist - "I thought you were going to eat first" - You said and she looked at you frowning
-"Be careful with Ava, she is a flirt" - she said with annoyance in her tone
-"And you are not?"-You asked and she frowned more-"I'm a flirt too, you don't like when I flirt with you? Maybe I should go flirt with Ava" - You teased and she pulled you closer
-"Don't you dare" - she said threatening
-"What is this Mel? I thought you were going to take this slow now that we work together" - You kept teasing
-"This means nothing, we are nothing, I just want your attention on me" - she confessed and blushed when she heard herself - "I mean that is better that you have your attention on me that on the dangerous Ava" - she tried to correct herself
-"I never picture you as the jealous tipe" - You said
-"I'm not, just shut up" - she said anoyyed
-"Make me" - You replied and she gave you a little very short peck that made your brain stop working, you never expected that to happen with her coworkers being there, you knew the low lights and the people dancing around you made a cover, but anyways it made your brain short circuit
-"I thought that might work, now keep your mouth shut and let's keep dancing" - she said proudly looking at your shocked and lost face.
