Sharpen's Warband, 2
Tumblr media
Sharpen finished with tidying camp after breakfast. The next thing was to get hot water to wash the pans, but, being Sharpen, he'd started the pot just before serving everyone breakfast. Hot coffee, poached eggs, bacon, and pancakes were pretty easy to make in a pinch. No syrup, though. But he'd convinced everyone that a fresh honeycomb was better. Even the bees agreed! Al did not like the bees after a while.
Now, it was a matter of waiting a few more minutes for it to boil.
He had a seat nearby his tent, observed his campmates. First of all, Alessandre hated to be observed, so he was somewhat hiding--Sharpen guessed those were the tips of his purple ears poking above the reeds by the creek, but couldn't be sure. A lot of tall wildflowers over there also looked like that. Al's intention, of course.
Hotchkiss, who claimed to be infused with an incubus, behaved more like a normal person. Hotckiss was humming in a gravelly, sort of demon hunter way, and folding his clothes at the moment. Sharpen found this a little annoying in that Hotch was less fun than he hoped. Then again, he'd taken his name from a kind of military-grade gun, as far as Sharpen knew, which promised some form of excitement in the future. Likely, in battle.
The shamaness, Hainko Twinwolf, was off investigating a call she felt. Something to do with the elements. They were going to have to search for her soon if she didn't report back. All morning while he fetched breakfast, Sharpen didn't even see a hint of a person, and hardly any big Tauren, approaching their camp. Cuda had been sniffing around for their lost group member too.
"Well, Cuda? Still nothing?" After receiving acknowledgement, Cuda paced, agitated. Sharpen got up, slapped his thighs in an obvious manner, "Welp! We have a lost person on our hands. Let's get armed, go out--"
Another ghost wolf, more blue than Cuda, and a lot larger, was suddenly coming toward Sharpen mid-air. Shamanic ghostwolves didn't really re-enter our mortal realm, slipping in mournfully as lost spirits traversing death and life might. They more sort of bloomed from the air itself, like sudden rain or a breeze. A shaman's pearlescent wolf came running at you, seemingly from the sky.
And then, Sharpen got bowled over. "Gah!"
Tumblr media
The big blue ghost wolf standing on Sharpen had Hainko's Tauren voice, "Look what the elements brought! A bounty! A crossbow for you... and I'm already wearing the belt and helmet. The spirits are very pleased that I hunted the displaced memories, put them to rest."
Al was in fact not by the creek. He startled them by speaking from above. He rested on a tree branch. "My owl brought reports of this."
"Displaced memories, become like flesh?" Hotchkiss sounded skeptical.
Al explained, "They are all over Azeroth now, because of the radiant song. All sorts of things are... displaced. I'm afraid we don't have more intel than that, from any source. Khadgar himself is still investigating."
Hainko nodded, "Well, he's relying on people like us."
Sharpen grinned hard at his fine new crossbow. He held it up, "Heroes!"
Hotchkiss crossed his arms and sounded ironic, "Champions. I'm more of a mercenary."
Alessandre bent to get down, then hung from his arms to swing before leaping elegantly to the ground.
"Whatever our motivations are for being in this thing, it's a serious situation and getting worse. We'd better get moving. Hainko, is the displacement site far?"
"Not for a shaman and her spells."
He shrugged, "I guess you're not willing to conveniently pull us through the realities. Let's break camp and head to Dalaran. Bound to be a few portals from there." Then, he got snobbish, particularly in the demon hunter's direction, "Assuming everyone here is expert enough that they've been granted a hearthstone for their honorable service to the Kirin Tor, over the years?"
Hotchkiss really grinned then, showing his sharp demon teeth. "I'm sure access to an interdimensional demonic warship docked in the vicinity counts."
Sharpen cheered, "I can whistle for a golden eagle to pick me up! I'm a member of the Unseen Path, still."
Alessandre glared, "Sharpen. You're not supposed to say that out loud, that you're in a mystical, secret hunter organization."
Still, Al was the last to depart. The others each had their own, special way of being near-instantly spirited off to Dalaran. But for all the trash he talked, it took Al an hour and more to find, and then heat up his own hearthstone.
He grumbled the whole time.

And for the world record of asks, this person is back again. I’m just a huge sucker for your stories, I’m sorry bro 🤧🖤
When you have time and you feel like it why not try doing something like Martin’s s/o is a soldier and she just came home from, as my uncle said it, ‘Nam? So let’s say Martin is really excited since she’d been gone off and on for a couple years and a lot the final year it was all going on. He was getting ready to go to the air port but was working the last couple minutes of his shift. Then like a bus or something pulls up and she gets out and waits for him outside the shop. And he just kinda notices she’s like stoic and shell shocked so he tries his hardest to let her know he’s there and cares about her. I know that’s way too detailed but I’m a romantic fool for war reunitings like that. Also I apologize for the time shift lol. Hope you’re well, don’t feel like you have to write it 🖤
Ohh man, three decades later...
I really loved this ask, I thought it was really sweet<3 but apparently, I have to offer some sort of disclaimer.
I know nothing about war. I never wanted to be a solider. The closest I've got is an uncle who participated. I know nothing about Nam other than the textbooks-- and I'm not making light of anyone that died on either front. Let me just write the thing please... with no disrespect.
~~~~~~~~~~
The sound of your voice was etched into his brain, it was one of the few things that helped him fall asleep. He read the letters every day, the weeks were pretty much a blur. All filler days until Wednesday came and you had the opportunity to call him. There was so much he wanted to tell you, but he had no idea where to start. He just wanted to listen to your voice, you seemed excited at times-- almost exaggeratedly so. He just wanted to hold you. He refused to look at the news. He couldn’t imagine you immersed in such destruction. He only skimmed through the articles in fear that he might find your name in bold print in the very back.
Despite the situation, Martin was extremely proud of you. Your bravery, the sheer commitment to your country. You always said that you were going to enlist... so it didn’t matter whether or not you were drafted. For the longest, he figured you were joking. There was no way he could Imagine you, over there. Surrounded by chaos and destruction--and death. But, you were never more sure of anything in your entire life. He heard all the stories about your father,and his numerous accomplishments and accolades from war. The way your eyes would light up whenever you talked about him. He knew that you were about to live out your dream.
You were extremely serious about your training, you always had been. He was left in awe of your sheer athleticism. Even before you even mentioned your interest in enlisting-- you seemed as though you were preparing for something.
The weeks before your departure flew by in a blur. Each moment seemed to slip through his fingers, he wanted to be around you all the time. He tried to take in every detail, from your smile to the freckles on your cheeks. The way sunlight would bounce off your hair, the feel of your hand holding his. There was only time that he actually broke down, he actually begged you not to go. “We.. we can run off somewhere.. They’d never find you. J-just please don’t leave.” The words just seemed to escape, he instantly regretted them as he buried his face against your neck. He tried to control the sobs, but they continued to roll in wave after wave. So forceful, his voice no longer sounded like his own as his fingers grasp aimlessly at the hem of your shirt.
You weren’t phased...you didn’t yell at him for asking you to put off your dream. You began to rock him, gently as your fingers card through his hair “Sweetheart..it’s alright..It's gonna be alright. I wouldn’t leave if I felt any differently.” More muffled sobs, and you hold him tighter. You could faintly hear him mumble “I’m sorry” “It’s okay.” After a while, something seemed to switch over in his brain, you never lied. There was no way that you would leave him forever. You were going to be alright. He was sure of it. Needless to say he ended up ushering you upstairs, to your room. If Cuda wondered anything about him-- that was just too bad. He was adamant on staring with you for the rest of the night.
~~
He shouldn’t be this nervous.. It was the moment he had been anticipating for years. You had been involved for the duration of the War, the Months home seemed so few and far in between. Every time you returned, he promised himself not to get disillusioned. He enjoyed the moments he had with you--but constantly had to remind himself that it was only temporary. Sure, it sounds like an awful way of living--but he refused to let himself become complacent. He didn’t want to pretend that everything was normal, and you were finally here for good. He clung to you all the tighter--seemingly finding fascination in the little things. He appreciated you so much more. The depth of your kindness,all the little things you did to show him your love.
Martin’s hands flew over the register keys in a flurry of motion. If he kept moving, his hands didn’t seem to shake. His stomach was in knots, heartbeat hammering against his ribs. He could still remember the call from yesterday at two thirty in the afternoon. It was a call directly to the store, somehow the ring didn’t sound the same. For some reason, an image of you flashed through his mind and for a moment he wanted to be sick. That was another recurring change since your departure. He was so afraid to pick up the telephone. He was so scared that someday he’d pick up the phone to be met with a stranger informing him of the worst.
He reaches for the receiver only to be met with an empty dial tone. Someone else must have grabbed it. Knowing Martin’s luck, it was probably Him. He did his best to reduce the line, scanning..bagging items in a frenzy. After a while, Cuda Moved to join him behind the counter, he could feel the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.
The old Man had been alarmingly nice to him for the past few months. It was almost like when you first went away. Martin refused to leave his room, he’d neglect to come down for breakfast or supper. The old man would bang on the door, before slamming down the tray. “Eat! Nosferatu… I will not have you wither away in my house!” In a way your departure, and Martin’s reaction towards it left him actually human in Cuda’s eyes. He must care about the sanctity of human life just a bit. He cared about you. He tried to keep his insults to a minimum.
“Here… take it!” Cuda shoved the receiver into Martin’s hands.
He wanted to be sick… his vision began to blacken. He was expecting to be met with one of the patrol officer’s voices.
“H.. hello?”
“Baby, it’s over!”
It was you… he was so relieved.
“What?”
He could hear loud jeers from the background, muffled laughter as you spoke in the background.
“It’s over.. It’s finally over! I’m coming home on the next flight.”
From the sounds of it, you were at a pub or something, he could hear the jeers from your fellow soldiers. You seemed so overly happy, nearly frantic. He wanted to hold you so badly.
“Okay… When can I see you?” He tries to keep his voice as calm as possible. You weren’t calm in the least, he could already tell. You were simply trying to amp yourself up.. Attempting to sound excited as possible. His heart ached, just imagining everything that you’ve seen.
“Tomorrow.. Honey. Please meet me at the airport.” and with that, you hung up.
He would meet you there.
~
That night passed in a gray and grainy blur. He couldn't sleep, he kept envisioning your face. He continued to hear massive explosions, the sound of brick collapsing over mortar. Children crying as missiles explode. He had this vision of you huddled in a doorway with one of your fellow men clinging to your arm. He could almost feel your tears seeping into his shirt, Please hold me closer. Your eyes were wide and frantic as you search his face for any form of shelter.
You’re alright...y/n.. Everything’s okay. Just come back to me now
~
Once there was finally a lull in the barrage of customers, Martin found himself staring out the window. This was the day, he couldn’t wait till three thirty. He would be at the airport, eagerly awaiting for you to arrive. It must have been a smudge on the glass, or either his mind was really starting to slip. Directly outside, standing under a billboard for Pepsi cola, he saw a lone figure that eerily resembled you.
“No… couldn’t be. It was only half past noon. “
He steps in closer pretending to wipe off the glass--as he peers in through the window. All color seems to drain from his face, pins and needles. It was you. Poised directly outside the shop, at the bus stop- duffel bag resting at your feet. You looked so tired and thin, he could almost see right through you.
You looked incredibly gaunt, the delicate curves of your cheeks replaced with harsh lines and angles.Your head was tilted towards ground, you were fiddling with some small object in your hand. Martin rushes out in an instant, completely ignoring the older woman that stepped into line. Everything seemed to move in slow motion the second he barged out the door.
The cars honked at him as he darts across the street, it was mere seconds until he was at your side. Grasping at your hands. “ Y/n… love, please look at me!”
You seemed to be in a bit of a trance as you continued to fiddle with the object in hand. From the looks of it, it was a small polished stone. Martin really didn't need to know where it came from or from who. He didn’t stop to question it, all he needed was you. The moment your eyes actually met, his arms immediately moved to your waist. You nearly fainted. Whether from shock dehydration or whatever else-- you found your arms draped across his neck. He carried you inside the shop, past the customers--ignoring Cuda’s stare, all the way into the break room.
The old man’s eyes settled on you, and he decided to keep most of his complaints at bay. He was so tired of watching Martin melancholically wither away at the table. You were home now, and hopefully you'd move him out of his sight.
~
Martin rummaged through the coolers to find ice packs to place along your neck. Digging out fresh pieces of steak to soothe your swollen eyes. You could hear Cuda ranting behind the walls--you glance over to Martin fretting over the deep freezer.
“You know that it was you right?” Your voice was barely a whisper. Martin immediately drops the frozen slabs of beef in his hand, as he scrambles close to your side.
“Me what?” His fingers lightly trace over your arms as he nuzzles in close. After everything, he was not going to cry. Not again. You were actually here. The faint smell of your skin… and your shampoo. The way your right hand immediately entangles in his hair. He missed you so much. He began to tell you all the things that he wanted to say, without the restraints of parchment paper.
He wanted to take care of you. Despite your tightly starched uniform, the pins on your collar digging into his cheek, you were exhausted.. To the truest extent of the word.
You were slouched back against the brick, sitting on top of one of Cuda’s deep freezers. The sight alone reminded him of the beginning of your relationship. He wanted to scoop you up into his arms, only to escape through the back window and sprint back to your place.
But instead, he was finally looking at you, in all of your glory, and completely broken at the same time. He continued to hold you, arms draped across your waist as you murmured...
“The memory of your face..Mar-you've got me through so much. I was never gonna leave you."
Love Science: Chapter 5
Logan believed that he could solve anything through the power of science, even something as complicated as love. James is set on teaching him that love can’t be summed up in experiments and charts.
The two of them might just learn that there is more to love than they realize.
Rating: T
Pairing: Logan Mitchell/James Diamond
Word Count: 2305
“It’s really not that bad Carlos.” Kendall said, leaning against the bathroom stalls. “No one will even notice.” He paused for a moment, looking him over again. “Probably.”
Logan kept his head down as he ran some paper towels under the cool water, attempting some medical aid with the limited supplies in the school bathroom. Under the bright fluorescent lights he was finally able to get a good look at Carlos’ face, and well, Kendall wasn’t being entirely truthful.
His eye was swollen shut, a dark bruise already starting to set in. And his lip seemed to be split open across the top. Carlos would wince in pain every time he spoke, but that hardly stopped the smaller boy.
He isn’t even sure what had happened in the time he had separated from the two. He couldn’t always be with the other boys because of the advanced classes he took. That didn’t keep him from being roped into their shenanigans though.
 One minute he was listening intently to his teacher's lecture on the symbolism in ‘Animal Farm’ and the next Kendall was at the door claiming Logan was needed in the principal's office. He knew Kendall though, and wasn’t all that surprised when he grabbed him by the wrist, dragging him the opposite direction of the office.
Carlos was sitting on the counter of the bathroom, hand held over his eye and Logan had instantly gotten to work. It was second nature to him, fixing their injuries. He didn’t even bother asking how they happened anymore before coming to their aid.
“Give it to me straight Doc, am I gonna live?”
Logan rolled his eyes at the other boy’s melodramatics, though he couldn’t fight the smile tugging on the corners of his mouth. “You’ll live at least, but you’ll have a pretty nasty black eye for a couple days. How’d you get this anyways?”
Carlos sat up taller where he was perched on the edge of the counter, chest puffed out in pride. “Well you’ll be proud to know that I happened to get a date for the dance. James isn’t the only ladies man after all.”
Logan heard Kendall snort from over his shoulder, “Yeah and how many of James’ ‘ladies’ leave him with a black eye?”
“She was excited, you can’t blame her for that. Besides, you're just jealous that I have a totally awesome date and you don’t.” Carlos looked over at Kendall sticking his tongue out, and Logan shook his head. Sometimes it was hard to believe he was the same age as them.
Logan clasped his hand on Carlos’ shoulder and gave it a congratulatory squeeze momentarily distracting him from Kendall’s teasing. “Just try and wear your helmet around her okay? I can’t keep missing class to patch you up.”
He heard the bathroom door swing open, and all three of them looked over to see James rushing into the room. “I got your text, sorry it took me so long, Mrs.Bigler was not in a friendly mood today. Can you believe that she told me that- Wait. Dude, what happened to your eye?”
“Kendall! You told me that no one would notice!”
Kendall raised his hands in mock surrender, “ I did say probably.”
James came closer to the pair at the sink, examining the damage. “How can anyone not notice, can you even see?” Logan elbowed James in the ribs sharply to get him to stop talking.
“It’s not that bad,” Logan gave James a pointed glare, “And it should at least fade a little in time for the dance.”
The mention of the dance seemed to have Carlos perk up again, springing himself off the counter, injury completely forgotten. “Speaking of the dance, Jenny said yes to going with me. So you wanna help me get some clothes for the dance after school? And probably one of those flower things that girls like?”
Logan felt James tense up beside him. James was supposed to be helping Logan after school, and he felt himself deflate a little. Tutoring him would be a chore, and he doubted James would pass up the opportunity to go to the mall for him. He tried to shake off the feeling though, it’s not like he wanted to go to the stupid dance anyways.
“How about tomorrow night? I have to go to Logan’s to work on algebra homework.”
Kendall raised an eyebrow, examining the taller boy. “Since when do you pass up the opportunity to go shopping for tutoring of all things?”
When Logan glanced over he swore he could see James cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but as quick as the expression crossed his face, it left. It was kind of scary how quickly James could put on a show, and it got Logan wondering if he ever did that around him too.
James shifted the weight of his backpack on his shoulder, eyes meeting Kendall’s analyzing look. “You know my mother, if I don’t pass my test with at least a C, there’s no way she’ll let me go to the dance.”
The answer seemed to please Kendall for a moment, as he nodded. Logan felt momentarily grateful for James’ quick thinking because it would be mortifying for the other two to know what they were really doing.
They wouldn’t really care, he knew that much. Minus some teasing, he doubts the other two would think much about it. But still, his lessons in love were something he would like to keep to just the two of them.
The shrill bell pierced the air reminding the group of boys that they still had half a day’s worth of classes to get through. Carlos and Kendall shuffled out of the door quickly, realizing they had left their bags in their last period, and Logan moved to follow behind them. He only made it a couple of steps before he felt a harsh tug on his bag almost pulling him off balance.
He stumbled backwards a couple steps before coming in contact with something solid. He turned around in place to find himself inches away from James. The other boy had a huge grin plastered across his face, and Logan could see an almost evil glint in his eye. It was the same look he would see on Kendall’s face as he concocted yet another scheme, and Logan instantly felt dread build in the pit of his stomach.
There was no use fighting it though, he’d learned from years of being their friend. He sighed in resignation, “Alright, what’s the plan?”
“I’m glad you asked, I figured now was the perfect time to start step one of your training.” James set his bag on the counter beside him and began ruffling through it. When he pulled a tube of hair gel and his lucky comb from the bag, Logan finally understood what step one was. He made a move to exit the bathroom, but was stopped by James hand gripping his bag strap, holding him in place.
“What do you think is the first step to getting someone’s attention?” James looked at him expectantly and Logan racked his brain for an answer.
That question had brought him back to the very same struggles he had yesterday at Kendall’s house. Whatever it is that James did to make the girls fall at his feet, he just didn’t know. At least with Kendall, he could say that girls liked his easy going, down to Earth charm. And any girl that met Carlos, knew they’d be in for a crazy time. There just wasn’t a good answer for James though, and Logan hated not having an answer.
James had stepped out of Logan’s space, and watched him as he thought over his answer. Under his watchful eye, Logan began to feel uncomfortable and turned to the bathroom mirror to avoid his gaze. “I don’t know James, a good opener?”
He could see in the reflection James shake his head slightly, “Step one is getting them to look at you. Why do you think I spend so much time fixing my hair and deciding what to wear everyday? It takes effort to look this good, but it’s well worth it.” He stepped behind Logan, meeting his eyes in the mirror. “And today I’m gonna use that effort on you.”
Logan couldn’t help the snort that escaped him at James’ words. All the Cuda Man Spray and hair gel in the world couldn’t make up for the fact that he was a nerd. And when he stood next to James? Well it was almost unfair.
James was breathtaking, Logan wasn’t afraid to admit what was true. He had a natural glow about him, and he managed a healthy tan all year round despite the cold Minnesota winters. And when he smiled, his whole face lit up in a way the genius couldn’t really describe. When he stared at them, side by side, it wasn’t hard to compare himself to everything he was not.
“Let’s face it James, no one's gonna look at me when you’re in the room.”
James' face fell, and an unreadable expression crossed his features. His voice was barely above a whisper now, and Logan had to strain to hear it over the sounds of people walking to class in the hallways. He’d almost completely forgotten the school bell had rang.
“You don’t have to be me for someone to like you Logan.”
“Yeah, sure I don’t. That’s why there's a mile long line of girls just hoping I’ll give them the time of day. I’m a scrawny, pale, nerd who can barely string together a sentence in front of a pretty girl.” He shifted his head to the side, no longer interested in looking at his reflection. “ I appreciate that you want to help, but-”
He felt James’ hands on his shoulders, gently turning him around. Again he was only inches away from the other boy, a fact that made him nervous.Though James wasn’t making eye contact with him which made the situation a little more bearable as he stayed still under James grip, waiting for him to break the silence.
When he finally met Logan’s eyes though, there was a deep sadness in them that had him wanting to backtrack on all of the things he had said. He could play dress up for James, pretend that all his effort wasn’t in vain. Anything to keep him from looking at Logan the way he was now.
“Do you-” He took a quick breath in an attempt to steady his shaking voice. “Do you really think that low of yourself Logan?”
Now would be the time to pull back, pretend that it wasn’t a big deal to him. He didn’t really trust his words right now, afraid he’d keep spilling his guts if he opened his mouth. Instead he gave a small nod, hoping that the other boy would drop the conversation right there.
He wasn’t expecting the harsh tug pulling him tightly into the other boys’ arms. James had crouched down slightly, burying his face in Logan’s neck, his body tense like he would sprint away at a moment's notice.
Logan knew exactly how he felt, overwhelmed with the close contact. Still he didn’t try to break free from the hold, instead tangling his fingers in the fabric of James t-shirt, holding him close. He didn’t know how long they stayed like that, seconds, minutes, maybe an hour before James finally spoke again.
“I know it might not mean much coming from me. But I promise you I’m not just saying this as your best friend. You aren’t some pathetic nerd Logan. I wasn’t kidding about all the things I said yesterday, you are more than you give yourself credit for. And if some girls don’t realize it, that’s their loss.”
Logan felt grateful that James still had his face buried in his neck. That meant he couldn’t see the flush across his cheeks and how teary eyed he had gotten from the kind words. He couldn’t really find the words to speak and instead wrapped his arms around James hugging him tightly.
Behind him, Logan heard the bathroom door slam open and wasn’t surprised when he felt James launch back from their embrace. The student didn’t even look twice at the pair before turning on his heel and heading back out. The heavy mood in the room though had left with him, and Logan didn’t really know what to do now.
James preoccupied himself with gathering the hair supplies that had been long forgotten on the counter before zipping up his bag and turning his attention back on Logan. “So, I’ll be over at four?”
He was giving Logan an out, if he didn’t want to do this anymore all he had to say was no. But Logan found himself nodding. Even if he felt the plan was pointless, it obviously meant something to James and he never wanted to see that look of sadness on his face again.
James smiled at his agreement, knocking him on the shoulder as he made his exit from the bathroom and just like that Logan was alone.
Being left with his thoughts seemed to be a very bad idea, as he could clearly still remember the feel of James’ arms wrapped tightly around him. They were all affectionate with each other, sure, but something felt different about that hug, and he didn’t want to think about it.
Instead he rushed out of the bathroom, heading off to make it to the very tail end of his third period class. Hoping a little calculus would distract him from thinking about what happened in the bathroom and the tutoring session later.
Across the school, James headed to his chemistry class, hoping for the same exact thing.
KEEP YA HEAD UP: Legends Never Die, They Just Multiply
by Heidi Siegmund Cuda aka Maewestside
Every time you hear a 2Pac song, he’s reborn again. Each time another street-fighting hopeful enters the ring, Muhammad Ali lifts the rope.
We are the City of Angels, and angels are everywhere, sending indirect signs, helping us to keep our head up even in moments of great despair.
That love you feel for Kobe Bryant, that’s something special, something to carry in your heart. As long as he’s in your heart, he lives on forever.
Legends never die, they just multiply—schoolyard poets, writing licks on scraps of paper at recess; middle school athletes blessed with talent working as if they had none, because that’s what Kobe did.
The lessons they left behind, schooling us, a piece lives on in every heart that beats.
TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA
The impromptu weeklong memorial for Kobe and his daughter Gianna brought out the angels en masse. A courteousness and a grace permeated the crowd of mourners, decked out in that incongruous pairing of gold and plum, forgiven by aesthetes because the colors have come to embody greatness.
Anyone who saw Kobe play knows he’s legend. I got to see a 65-point game on March 16, 2007, where the Lakers were down by seven points in the last minute and a half, and with grace and ease, Kobe just kept nailing those three-pointers, leading the Lakers to victory over Portland. I remember thinking that he was the most graceful court dancer I’d ever seen, only learning this week just how hard he worked for those moves.
SHED SO MANY TEARS
Kobe once said, “I was blessed with talent though I worked as if I had none.”
That right there. Legends work hard. We only see the results. Fred Astaire glided across the dance floor as if on clouds of air, but the perfection was the result of endless practice.
Muhammad Ali danced like a butterfly and stung like a bee because he trained six days a week, shadow boxing, pounding the bag, sparring—not because he liked it but because he knew if he didn’t quit, he’d live the rest of his life as a champion. Word.
In the last year of his life, 2Pac would tell his driver to pull over so he could jump out and grab a spiral bound notebook, lyrics flooding out of him that he had to capture, instinctively knowing his time on earth might be short. His poetry, forever etched into our consciousness.
MAN OF THE PEOPLE
On night number five in downtown, the Kobe vigil was in full swing. Family units, travelers from Nicaragua and Tallahassee, women in stilettos, cuz, you never know. Vendors selling Kobe scarves, churros, handmade key chains, bacon wrapped hot dogs, his image etched on wood carvings, tshirts with the wings that were tattooed on his bicep now adorning his back.
I stopped for a pair of street tacos, asking the women preparing them what Kobe meant to her. She told me, “He spent time with us, the people, you know. He wasn’t above anyone.”
She said he stopped by her restaurant and refused to jump the line, telling her to treat him just like another customer. She wiped away a tear with her gloved hand, as I put four bucks in her fanny pack. There’s little doubt in my mind Kobe would have appreciated the entrepreneurism his tragedy inspired in the locals.
I walked through the streets admiring the freshly inked arms, reflecting how we mourn in L.A., with tattoos and paint, body canvas and abandoned buildings. Even if you didn’t hear the news that Sunday morning, all you had to do was drive through the streets, the handiwork of taggers already paying tribute. “RIP Kobe,” in Olde English, covering aged bricks.
HOW TO BE A MAN
“Dear Kobe, thank you for teaching me how to be a man, on and off the court,” wrote a fan on the canvas outside Staples Center. On a scrap of binder paper next to a flickering candle with “Long Live Kobe” written in sharpie, a mourner wrote a four stanza poem, the third stanza reading: “Oh what it means, to be a dad, Oh what it means, to rise from bad.”
At their best, legends make us better people. They make us work harder, strive for more and teach us to overcome adversity.
L.A. is an imperfect place, beautiful and flawed. The legends that spring from here are brilliant, beautiful and flawed. But it’s the brilliance and beauty that stay with us.
CALIFORNIA LOVE
The world is mourning the loss of a legend, but L.A. is mourning the loss of family. The kindness of strangers that permeates the downtown vigil is a moment for L.A. and one I cherish.
Kobe murals are popping up throughout the city, a sea of post-its creating a rainbow of love. So much raw beauty in this City of Angels.
As long as there’s a can of paint, the whirring of needles and archival footage, Kobe Bryant, like Pac and Ali, will flame eternal.
There’s lots of wide-open space in the Chronos, but no extra slots, typical of these small-form-factor desktops. The black box next to the CPU is the power supply.
Lori Grunin/CNET
The Origin PC Chronos is one of those systems you feel the need to invent a performance metric for, like frames per second per cubic inch. Capable of housing up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 and overclocked Ryzen 9 or Intel Core i9 processors, this small-form-factor gaming PC punches well above its weight. It’s not the most gracefully proportioned system, though, squat and chunky with minimalist illumination. And unlike the tall, slim MSI MEG Trident X, which uses the same motherboard, it looks like it should be able to accommodate more than just a single card.
Like
Fits a lot of power in a small space
Relatively quiet given its power
Surfaces don’t get hot
Don’t Like
Really need to use the external Wi-Fi antenna
Like most mini-ITX motherboards, there’s only one slot, occupied by the graphics card
This case is new for Origin PC, and it’s actually a bit smaller than before. We’ll be seeing a lot more of these small desktops with 3080 and 3090 cards — it’s amazing how much power you can cram onto a corner of your desk these days — and they’re a perfect size for weekday-work-from-home-game-on-weekends people in a cramped space.
Like all Origin PC systems, you can pay extra to jazz it up with a custom paint or etching job. In this case, that’s extra above the $3,225 of our test configuration (directly converted, about £2,530 and AU$4,585), equipped with a 10-core Intel Core i9-10900K, EVGA XC3 GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card, a total of 1.5GB SSD and 16GB 3.2GHz DDR4 memory.  If you opt for the aluminum mesh side panels instead of the tempered glass we got, you can get a bigger CPU cooler and custom overclocking. The Chronos can be configured starting as low as $1,449 (about £1,135 and AU$2,060).
Origin PC Chronos
Price as reviewed $3,225 Size Mini ITX (11 x 7 x 15.5 in/27.9 x 17.8 x 39.4 cm) Motherboard MSI MEG Z490I Unify and Corsair SFX 750 watt PSU CPU 3.7GHz Intel Core i9-10900K Memory 16GB DDR4 SDRAM 3,200MHz (2 slots) Graphics 10GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 (EVGA XC3) Storage 500GB SSD (1 NVMe slot), 1 x 1TB SATA SSD; 1 open bay for 3.5-inch storage Ports 6 x USB-A, 2 x USB-C (1 x Thunderbolt 3); on GPU 3 x DisplayPort 1.4, 1 x HDMI 2.0b, on motherboard 1 x DisplayPort, 1 x HDMI) Networking 1 x 2.5Gb Ethernet, Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (802.11ax) Operating system Windows 10 Home (2004)
There’s a lot of empty space in the case and, of the Mini ITX systems I’ve seen recently, it’s one of the easier to open and upgrade: there are thumbscrews on the back, the sides slide out, there’s a pressure plate with outside screws holding the graphics card in place and there’s a bottom slide-out filter tray. Everything’s easily within reach, visible and accessible. The liquid cooling systems are pretty, too, but they can make quick swaps and upgrades a pain.
Now playing: Watch this: Full breakdown of Nvidia’s new RTX 3000 series (3070,…
The Chronos has a Thunderbolt port in the back — a nice motherboard feature since the RTX 30-series cards don’t have USB-C connections like the 20-series did. I wish it had more connections in the front like the Trident X rather than the single USB-A, USB-C and audio jack, but at least you have a USB-C connector to hang a hub off of.
As with a lot of desktops, the Wi-Fi can be a bit sketchy — the antenna locations frequently don’t handle 5GHz signals very well — and you’ll definitely have to use the bundled external one. The antenna’s base is magnetized, though, and it attaches more sensibly to the base than other’s I’ve seen.
The i9-10900K processor in the Chronos isn’t the fastest I’ve tested in a small form factor, though it does take the single-core-speed crown, if only by a slim margin in some cases. The Ryzen 9 3900XT in the Maingear Turbo outperforms it for multicore speed, which is in part attributable to the Ryzen’s 12 processing cores compared to the i9’s 10. (You can see how it measures up in the benchmark results at the end of this review.)
Sarah Tew/CNET
Surprisingly, the RTX 3080 isn’t unambiguously faster than the 2080 Ti; it’s plenty fast, but it looks like it’s (unsurprisingly) optimized for Nvidia’s own CUDA programming interface and Windows DirectX rather than Vulkan. That’s likely temporary, though, since the 30-series cards have some new algorithms and architectural changes that software needs to catch up with.
For many games, though, it generally seems to be about 10-20% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti, its spiritual predecessor, and about 30-40% faster than the RTX 2080 Super, it’s price-equivalent predecessor. Perhaps more important, though, those gaps increase significantly when playing games in 4K using DLSS (Nvidia’s upscaling technology) in a way they never did in the 20-series cards, as well as 4K without it.
All this speed doesn’t heat up the system’s surfaces or overheat its components, but the hot air venting out the top does seem to raise the temperature in my room by about two degrees. Still, it’s small enough that I might actually be able to squish a third monitor on my desk and fast enough to make it worth putting up with the heat.
False car insurance report?
"False car insurance report?
Me and my boyfriend were in an accident on New Year's Eve in his father's car. Our car was totaled, and since the accident was entirely the other party's fault and their insurance had to cover everything. My family made me go to the emergency room to make sure nothing was wrong with me, and I was told that if I sent the bill to the other lady's insurance they would have to cover it. Well the bill came and when we sent it to his father to send it to the other insurance company he said that he claimed only his son was in the car. Now I'm stuck with a huge bill that I'm trying to find a way out of, but since he lied to the insurance I don't think I can send it to them. There were witnesses and the lady knew I was in the car. Is him lying on the report considered fraud?
Should I take a term insurance rather than home mortgage insurance?
Normally many banks want the home loan borrowers to take mortgage insurance. Here there are controversies since many suggest borrowers should take term insurance instead. But do term insurances always give better protection than term insurance? How does a mortgage insurance compare with term insurance in terms of premium amount, premium payment period, risk cover of death, disability, chronic disease, surrender value, survival benefits etc? Apparently the term insurances are cheaper but have to be paid for a much longer period than mortgage insurance (generally paid for about 1/3rd of loan period.) So which options is better? I would specifically like to know about such products available in India. Thanks.""
I am quitting my job in a couple of weeks to start my own business. I am shopping around for individual health insurance plans and have found a couple that will suit my needs. Can you name a place in so. California where I can purchase minimum legal auto liability insurance?
I would be greatly obliged if you didn't limit your answer to something like contact your insurance agent . For one, I don't have one yet, that's part of the problem. I currently have neither a car nor insurance. For my first car, I want to buy a car from one of the many people selling their used cars in my metropolitan area. But without insurance, I cannot drive the car home or even test drive it. I would like to buy the minimum liability insurance that is required by California law BEFORE I choose and buy a car so that way I can go to nearby cities test driving cars, and drive back the one I buy. I have tried shopping online for insurance. I went to all the insurance companies that are on TV plus several others. I came across two issues 1) they base the insurance on what type of car you have, and I do not know which one I am going to get yet, 2) they want to sign me up for complete car and driver's insurance, even though they claim to let me customize my plans. I do not qualify for the state liability insurance for low income drivers. Can you specifically name a place where I can walk in and purchase only auto liability insurance?""
False car insurance report?
Me and my boyfriend were in an accident on New Year's Eve in his father's car. Our car was totaled, and since the accident was entirely the other party's fault and their insurance had to cover everything. My family made me go to the emergency room to make sure nothing was wrong with me, and I was told that if I sent the bill to the other lady's insurance they would have to cover it. Well the bill came and when we sent it to his father to send it to the other insurance company he said that he claimed only his son was in the car. Now I'm stuck with a huge bill that I'm trying to find a way out of, but since he lied to the insurance I don't think I can send it to them. There were witnesses and the lady knew I was in the car. Is him lying on the report considered fraud?
Can my parents put my car under their insurance so it's cheaper since I'm 16?
I'm 16 I have my permit and I have like 2 more months to go till I can get my license which is finally coming since its been a long wait. And after the 2 months end school starts and I'm going into my junior year and at this age everyone is driving already so please don't hate or any negative attitude here on that. And I'm responsible etc and work hard in school so that's why my parents are getting me a car I want and they've been saving saving into my bank account since I was little. But that money is for me. But the car I want is the 2013 Camaro ZL1 and it goes for $40,000 around there and don't blast on me about the price I'm not wanting a $100,000 car and its my first and last car I'm not gonna switch through 10 cars 1 is good enough and I like sports cars because of their look, and performance, I like smooth cars. But if my parents get that I know insurance is the thing that everyone has problems with because of pricing but since I'm 16 and the car is a sports car and all I was told it can be thousands for the insurance but what if it is under my parents insurance will it be way cheaper? And what does it mean if the car is under my parents name and not mines what is that? Will I still be able to name my plate?""
I hit another car and I have no insurance?
My boyfriend just gave me his old car as a gift, I planned on getting insurance to it the moment I put it under my name, but I was driving today and I rear ended another car. I was placed in police car as they did some investigation. The other police officer found out that the other car was a rental and that they had Avis insurance. I kept asking the police officer when do I find out about making payments to the other car. He gave me a ticket and said there will be no payments for the other car. Me and and the other car never exchanged any information. This is my first accident, I am a little confused. Am I suppose to get sued. And what is the likelihood that that the other car's insurance would charge me 10k or more for the accident? I want an idea so I can start saving money and trying to make payments now. Is there a way I can start making payments without having to go to court to get sued.""
GeForce Titan X TITAN X is crafted to offer upper heat diffusion second-hand vapor chamber refrigerative technology in a die slink aluminum body. It’s a forcible cabal of brilliant efficiency, fine design, and industry-leading act. TITAN X takes today’s most claim project and scenarios in its gait, and at the recent Game Developers Conference (GDC) the globe saw its full rove of capabilities in next-gen experiences, too. Of those enjoy, Virtual Reality (VR) is poised to be the next-large clothes. Why? Because you’re engrossed in the Pancratium in a passage that was previously unfeasible. It’s you, directly in the game, with a real stereoscopic ground, often with curative extensions of your corporation rendered on-screen when exploring and interacting with motive. It’s near on impossible to effectively describe, but once you examine it you’ll be taken aback, gawping with marvel and grinning liking a Cheshire grimalkin. It legally is the future of gaming. TITAN X is also primary and ready for DirectX 12, a new graphics API that will advance performance, enable the nature of more full worlds, and assign developers to create previously-impossible experiences. Imagine a strategy Olympic with tens of thousands of individual one, a metropolitan builder with unparalleled simulations and AI, and worlds filled with thousands of buildings and objects, each uniquely textured. These possibilities and more await latter this year. Nvidia’s walking the walk to back up the consult, though. The $1,000 Titan X truly is the bestest, baddest, most firebreathing single-GPU graphics gondola in all the catch—and it’s the first one skillful to amusement many games on high detail settings at 4K separation all by it’s lonesome, with no multi-game setup water-closet. It is a cure. The card go very quietly even under load, to the point that I’m not indisputable if I was earshot the plight winnow or the GPU car fridge during intense benchmarking sessions. That's essential, especially since all Titan X designs will rock advertence coolers only—there will be no aftermarket cooler options from board vendors. Nvidia maintain the Titan X overclocks like a champ, hitting up to 1.4GHz in the company’s spiritual cupellation. I was weak to OC the Titan X due to opportunity constraints, but assumed the superb overclocking capabilities of every other Maxwell-supported GPU, I willingly expect the proclaim. It also fully uphold Nvidia’s impressive Multi-Frame-Sampled Anti-aliasing (MFAA) technology, which smooths out jagged margin at a level similar to traditionary MSAA, but with much less of production hit. This phenomenal technology toil with any DirectX 10 or DX11 title that protect MSAA and basically provides a frank—and often substantial—frame proportion increment. That’s a gigantic deal at any resolution, but it can disgraceful the variation between a playable game and stuttering clean at 4K perseverance. Depending on the marathon and its adjust scold, mesh noise is more or less auricular; our distinction is also using a high framerate scenario to reveal any potential coil-rumor problems. by techPowerUp! I've also included the maximum OC performance result with the MSI GTX 980 Gaming, which is the game with the zenith overclocked real-life performance we tested. by techPowerUp! I also regard some slight coil rumor coming when it runs high FPS, but it's not noticeable enough to be disturbance. multicoring level12 Excellent 2 months ago. Comparable to 1070s when overclocked. Lots of vram, which is nice. Good for holding onto until Volta, especially when i got two of them. Technology for intelligent monitoring of clock speed, ensuring that the GPU go at its point and the game is at its highest contrive rate likely. It attempt untried levels of customization, hold GPU temperature target, overclocking, and unlocked voltage. GPU Tweak with XSplit Gamecaster GPU Tweak: Real-age perceptive graphics tuning Adjust beetle haste, voltages and ventilate celerity to attune your graphics card(s) fully how you want to. Select between GPU Tweak’s Standard or Advanced modes depending on your open of experience. Choose Standard Mode to access Intuitive options for easy pull. This is strong for those erudition how to air graphics game. Alternatively endeavor out the Advanced Mode for vitiate and far-reaching tuning options that endow complete control for experienced overclockers. XSplit Gamecaster Now, you can also pierce XSplit Gamecaster to bring up the in-game covert and start streaming or recording your gameplay with the click of a button. You can also try the in-quarry annotations and video editor characteristic to enhance your Pancratium rush undergo. Learn more about XSplit Gamecaster. Forget the GTX 1080: there's a new viscous of graphics game hotness on the distance from Nvidia, and its name is, er, the GTX Titan X. Yes, Nvidia has taken its most lavish graphics basket and assumed it a Pascal-structure makeover. $1200—UK price TBC, but probably £1,100—buys you 11 teraflops of FP32 performance, which is a significant 24 percent jump over the 8.9 teraflops of the GTX 1080, and honest over 60 percent higher than the 6.6 teraflops of the original Titan X. Interestingly, while the new GTX Titan X features the same number of CUDA random access memory as Nvidia's Tesla P100 GPU—as used in thorough literature and knowledge applications—it is using a different silicon chip. With previous Titans, Nvidia has merely taken its biggest chip and given it a prosumer makeover, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Those inlet for a return of the stellar FP64 performance of the original Titan may be disappointed here, although Nvidia is enterprising the card's 44 TOPs of INT8, a measurement for neural cobweb inference production. The reveal of the Titan X imitate the pierce of the GTX 1080, the GTX 1070, and the GTX 1060, all of which were released over the past two months. That's a fierce liberate catalogue by anyone's standards. Quite why Nvidia is so keen to get the Titan X out of the door, particularly when it has zero competition at the top end of the market, is something of a form. Still, with 11 teraflops, the Titan X might finally be the card that fetters us sweet 60FPS 4K gaming. The GM200 GPU aboard the Titan X is based on the same Maxwell architecture that we've seen in cloudiness-extermination GeForce cards, and in many ways, it follows the template adjust by Nvidia in the beyond. The major league conversion of the new GPU ecclesiology often arrival a little later, but when it does, good things occur on much larger scale. Nvidia has equipped the Titan X with its familiar dual-slot aluminum cooler, but this turning has been coated with a spiffy matte-dusky finish. The result is a look resembling to a blacked-out muscle car, and I think it's absolutely corrupt-punani. Don't repeat the nerds who read my website that I got so excited about color colours, though, please. Finally, for launch availability this will be a rigid launch with a unimportant twist. Rather than starting with narrate and etail partners such as Newegg, NVIDIA is going to calcitrate things off by selling cage directly, while associate will start to sell cards in a few weeks. For a card alike GTX Titan X, NVIDIA selling cards forthwith is not a huge effort; with all cards being same reference cards, colleague largely serve as distributors and technical support for buyers. Fucking Bad Idea
Landyn: {I wasn’t wrong when I’d thought I’d be thrown into the job without much prep work. But even for my level of shit, this took the fucking piss. Tick the boxes when the stuff went on the truck, then when I got to the other end, cross the ticks to show that they’d been delivered. Bob knew everyone he worked with, and took the time to actually put the various nuts and bolts along with parts where they lived. So that’s what I’d be learning on the job. Excellent. People weren’t a problem for me, but I tended to get in trouble, since the filter between my brain and my mouth was faulty. Or more accurately, non existent. I tended to speak before I thought and then wondered why I spent my entire life trying to explain what I meant, or at the very least that I didn’t mean what I said negatively. And most the time I didn’t. I was nice enough, I liked most people and just wanted to get on with things. I had friends, and I liked the life I had been given. I was busy a lot of the time, but that was my own choice. I wanted to run from pillar to post to ensure I got what I needed, to ensure my brain never got a chance to catch up and catch me off guard. Like right now, when I was checking off the various bags and wrapped packages that were going to my next delivery. There seemed to be a lot of stuff on this delivery, and when I asked the manager, he told me quite directly that it was basically a two to three times a week delivery spot because they were so busy. I wondered why they didn’t do a bigger bulk order. But whatever, who was I to critisise a bad business decision. Instead I nodded and ticked off the last thing on the list, “Ok, Boss. I have it all checked off and ready to go. That all you want me to do today? It doesn’t seem like it’ll take the next few hours.” All I got was a laugh before he waved me off and disappeared. I frowned, but didn’t push it. Instead I hopped into the driving seat and started the engine, making sure I was aware of where everything was and how it all worked before I started out on my way to Screaming Demon Auto. I rolled my eyes and snorted. Subtle.}
Cooper: *I fought with the damn paperwork, payroll, orders, invoices, outstanding accounts, etc until I felt like my eyes were bleeding. I knew I hadn’t really been at it long. I did what I needed and that was that. Orders came in a few times a week to make it easier on us, we never knew exactly what we’d be working on week to week so carrying a ton of stuff I didn’t need just wasn’t on my list of things to do. Payroll was done when it had to be, invoices as well…it was the outstanding accounts I hated most. Some of the people, those who I didn’t intentionally fuck with because I knew their wallets were already strained, those i hated billing but I didn’t run a damn charity here. Though most knew damn well they were getting a hell of a deal from me. Local community and all that. Yep, I was a regular outstanding member of society and all that happy bs. With a snort, I closed the books and pushed back from my desk. My car was calling to me and who was I to resist it? I checked in with Clint and made sure he was set for the evening. I was trying to show trust and all that, give him a sense of accomplishment since he planned on actually going to college for this shit. He just lacked the confidence when dealing with the people, especially if things were even off in the slightest. With the variety we got in here, that often meant I’d get pulled out from beneath the hood if things got too much. He swore up and down that tonight was different, he was ready. I slapped his shoulder and grinned, telling him to call me if he needed me and threw a fresh rag in my pocket before I went to my corner of the shop and slid beneath the car to start. Since it was a pretty slow night, I might even let Clint work a wrench or two after the delivery was handled and the shop closed up for the thing. Until then though, I savored my moments of solitude as I focused on the chassis of the ‘cuda. Knowing that at any moment that air horn would blast and my silence would be shattered*
Landyn: {I rolled up outside the auto shop. Indeed the sign agreed with me that it was Screaming Demon Auto. I mean, fucking hell, what a way to attract the wrong kind of business. I was sure the dude who apparently ran it must be inundated with females looking for a hookup, or possibly men looking for the same thing. No one wanted that name on their CV when they looked for another job. I couldn’t help the shake of my head, but I tried to put on my professional face regardless as I drove into the spot for employees. I wasn’t sure I was in the right place, and while I would normally just drive into the shop and ask, I was trying to turn over a new leaf, so I’d do it by the book. I hopped down from the driver's side and grabbed the clipboard on my way. I needed it to show that I was in fact from where I said I was from. I gave the place another once over and then made tracks to the reception door, figuring there’d be some pretty little blonde on the desk to ask me if I needed anything extra while I waited. Yes, I was an asshole sometimes. I accepted that one. The name really wasn’t doing anything for me. I pushed the door open and something screamed. The noise made me jump about half a foot in the air and I opened my mouth before I could think better of it, “What the actual fuck is that? Are you trying to scare people off before they’ve even come in, the name of this place alone should do that shit for you.” I inhaled noisily and scrubbed my knuckles over my chest, needing to slow my heart and allow my brain to work rather than just throw out whatever popped into it first. I saw a young dude make his way towards me, and I stood quietly until I was close enough to hear me without having to shout, “I’m replacing Bob. Name’s Landyn, and I’ll be doing deliveries from now on. I know I just have to tick the order off as I bring it in. Though I think Bob put all that stuff away for you too. Which I can do, it’ll just take me a bit longer until I know where everything is…………….” I didn’t get much further before the dude looked like he was about to hyperventilate. Asking about Bob and why he wasn’t here. I stood there legitimately gaping like a fish. Waiting while the volume slowly increased and then he snapped his mouth shut and waited for my reply, “How about you just show me where to pull up the truck and then you, or someone else, can show me where this shit goes. Quicker I unload, quicker I’m out of all your hairs. Won’t that be something.” I arched a brow in question and waited. Wondering if this kid even knew what Bob did while he was here.}
Coop: *I’d just popped off the transmission mount when I heard the airhorn going off, I paused and listened for a moment. My brows pinched at what I heard and I pushed the creeper out from under the car. I hopped up to my feet and wiped my hands off on the red shop rag as I walked to the front. Clint looked like he saw a damn ghost or something but then when I saw the male in front of him, I wasn’t all that surprised by the reaction. The blond male certain commanded some attention and with him rattling on, I’m sure Clint was still stuck on the replacing Bob part that had originally captured my attention. That final smart ass comment from the new guy had my lip curling up slightly in the corner as I dropped a hand on Clint’s shoulder* Go grab a bite, kid, I’ll handle this. *Clint nodded, whispering a thanks,  and turned under my arm to duck in the back while I walked around the counter. The closer I got, the easier it was for me to get a read on him, to determine that he was more like me than not, which is likely another reason Clint was rattled. He didn’t know what I was or anything like that, but he was always more on edge around those like me than not. He was getting better though, just took a little more time with him.* Don’t mind the kid, he gets rattled easily when he’s up front. Did I hear you right, you’re taking over Bob’s route? Something happen to him? Follow me through here and I can show you where the shit goes. Rather than using that front door, you can come ‘round the back with the boxes. It’ll save you a heart attack or two with the door. Plus it makes it easier than trying to work around the counter and all that. *I turned and started towards the parts rack in back, fully expecting the male to follow me without question. I pointed out the door for him and weaved around to the back corner of the shop where everything was kept. Everything was labeled and organized in a way that made absolute sense to me, and Bob, but to few others.* Anything you don’t know where it goes, find me or ask one of the guys to come get me. I’m usually under a hood somewhere unless I get forced to handle the papers, then I’ll be in the office.
Landyn: {I watched the kid as he looked flustered. I would have felt bad, if I hadn’t just had a heart attack walking in here, and I was still focused on the name and the sign. It was like a beacon to everything in the local area. I just hoped they thought him too stupid to actually do it, and steered clear thinking it was an idiot human behind the wheel of this place. The dude seemed to settle when there was a noise behind him, and as I lifted my chin to look I was rewarded with that view. And what a fucking view. Hello! I arched a brow and didn’t bother hiding my gaze as it slowly slid over the male. Not that he was watching me, which kind of made it even better for now. No wonder they put Bob on this. He was about as oblivious as anyone I knew, and that was saying something. I was still imagining Bob’s conversations with the dude as he spoke, and I blinked a couple of times to focus in on the man, “Yeah, I’m taking over……………..” I huffed out a breath as he walked back towards the various boxes that were labeled in some way or another. Rude! I followed on after him as expected, because really, I couldn’t just turn around and get the van to follow him in. Even if I was now imagining what he’d look like smeared across my windshield. Or on the bonnet of the car……...ok enough Landyn! Fuck. I wasn’t a horny, or maybe not a murderous, teenager. I cleared my throat and paid some attention, nodding along in all the right places and then raising a brow at the dude, “As I was saying, yeah, I’m taking over Bob’s route. He’d dead.” I squinted at the boxes and bent forward to see if I could see into the ones that were a clear plastic, Not bothering to open them yet, I would get around to that once I had the van with me. “I’ll bring the van around and get started unloading. I’m thinking I might need you more often than not initially, but I’ll certainly do my best to be all efficient and shit. I know Bob was an in and out kinda guy.” I snorted at the lie, that man could talk and ended up late for absolutely fucking everything because of it. Instead I turned to look at the male, quickly looking around to check his helper was out of ear shot, “And nice to see you’re flying under the radar with the name, and what the fuck is that logo?” I shook my head in disbelief, though a smile tugged at the corners of my lips. I didn’t wait on a reply, instead I moved past the male and started back towards the exit so I could rescue my truck and get started on unloading everything.}
Cooper: *Now that we were in back, I could take a moment to look over Bob’s replacement. He was far younger and a hell of a lot better looking that’s for sure. I frowned at the revelation of Bob’s fate and leaned against the rack, not eyeing the male as he bent over. Certainly not imagining him cuffed in that very position. Nope, not at all.* Huh, well damn, he was a good guy. Didn’t mind coming around a few times a week and all that. I’m not worried about efficiency since I pay for the service I get. Though I’m not opposed to tossing in bonuses for a job well done. *I grinned wide at him. It was a shame he wouldn’t know what that offhand innocent comment about needing me would do to me. I was good at fulfilling needs of others. I prided myself in it in fact. He had a mouth on him though, cocky, yet he wasn’t some young ass punk. He was used to things a certain way, expected it even. It would be fun to put him in his place, see just what he could do with that…foooocus, Coop. He’s new and obviously not into that sort. He hadn’t flirted or anything, which was a rarity. Not that I was hung up on my looks, but  it seemed when people got close, they just wanted to get closer. Which is what made the clubs so boring lately. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. This guy though….I gave him another long hard look…yeah, he wouldn’t be easy. I would bet money on that one. I’d be curious to see how long he stuck around though. Delivery wasn’t the most exciting thing, not out this way at least. His snort pulled me from my thoughts and I flashed  a lazy grin and shrugged at the comments about my name and logo* You tell me, with that blatant of a name and bizarre of a logo, I mean really a demon cat….would you expect to find someone like us running the place? Or would you think it was some dumbass human trying to be clever? *Bob and I had a similar discussion, though it wasn’t nearly as funny riling him up with it as it was watching this…what was his name again? He spun away and headed for the back door before I could ask. That was okay though, it gave me ample opportunity to ogle that ass as he walked away and allow my thoughts to go down a dangerous path while I waited for him to return. I heard a clap of thunder overhead and decided to be generous to the new guy. I opened the big bay door so he could pull right in, this way I could help and he’d not have to go back and forth with it all this time.*
Landyn: {I kept walking, I heard the explanation of the logo and couldn’t help my nod to myself. He was right, no one would expect any of our kind to be that blatant. Well, up to now. I’d heard some things floating around, and this guy, he was wanted by someone. But more than that I didn’t know, and with Bob doing his job, it was quiet again. Kill and get killed seemed to be his motto. I made it to the truck without setting off that horrific welcome note in the sound of a scream, and hopped into the driving seat. I turned the key and backed up a little, the full logo coming into view on the front of the place. It was horrific. I wrinkled my nose and started for the bay doors when they started to shake and then slowly rose from the floor. Apparently I was allowed into the main area, which would make my job ten fucking times easier. I did a huge semi circle and then backed it up, going slow until I knew my way around the place better. I pulled into a space I hoped wasn’t going to be in the way and took a minute to faff with paperwork while not watching the muscles move against the shirt that Cooper had on. I grinned and then grabbed up the file before hopping down to the concrete, “So, I have what you’ve ordered. It came in pretty fast, so it should all be here. You trust me to check it all off and get you to sign after, or you want to watch my back?” I felt my grin widen as I tipped my chin slightly and held Coopers gaze. I didn’t stop moving though, continuing to walk backwards towards the rear of the truck where I could get things opened and started. There was a lot of stuff in this order, so there was basically one small order for another place a few miles away, the rest was slowly killing trees with the amount of paperwork I had to print out, “Why the fuck can’t we use ipads or something to save on the papercuts.” I snorted and wound my way through the unhinging mechanism so I could swing open the doors and sweep my hand across the various boxes and trays stacked neatly. Knowing I’d backed it so that things should come out in some kind of an order, or I hoped anyway. I tried to be laid back and go with the flow, getting bored easily, but knowing I could disappear at any point. However, I did like order, control. I liked to know I was in control, and that often got me in trouble with customers who tried their best to take over and do things for me. That never ended well and often ended in me telling them flat out to take a fucking step back. I turned my back on Cooper and hooked my clipboard on the small nail I’d installed to keep it handy, while leaving my hands free, “So, I have some of the bigger parts here, there’s multiples of some of them. Where did you want them?”}
Cooper: * I watched as the new guy maneuvered the truck and back into the bay. impressed he’d managed not to hit anything on his first go at it. Even Bob had struggled with the narrow space, but it was always amusing to me to see how people handled the tight squeeze. The male popped down with that grin in place and made an offer that damn near caused me to trip over my tongue. I tampered down the growl that threaten and flashed my now grin at him, certain it spoke more than the friendliness I intended* With the amount I tend to order I’m not surprised, seems money makes things happen. *My grin grew wider as I held the male’s gaze…Landyn, that’s what it was. I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the steel pillar* Let’s see how you do, then if you have any questions you can just ask. As  for the paperwork, that’s likely my fault, I have a habit of frying out the electronics and I think they got tired of replacing them *I shrugged a shoulder and then watched as he moved around the truck. It was interesting watching him. He wasn’t flustered but rather seemed to move as if he was used to being his way or no way at all. Though there was an undercurrent through him, one that called for exploration. Clint called through the door to let me know he was taking his break and all that which meant I had to listen to the door or phone….or let them ring. Which, with this male before me that was entirely possible. I told him to take an hour and then turned my attention back to the truck. With his back to me, I could appreciate the hard muscles that roiled beneath the uniform he wore. That stretch as he hung the clipboard had my feet propelling me closer and when he waved to the parts, I used that as an excuse for my sudden nearness. Ignoring the automatic innuendo that formed in my head, I brushed his shoulder with mine as I eyed the parts, letting my touch linger I placed a hand on the small of his back as I reached for one of the parts, nodding my head towards the wall* You can put most of those on the bottom shelf right over there, but I’ll take this one over to where I’ll be using it. Save double stepping with it and risking it getting damaged. *I gave another nod as I slowly dragged my fingers over the small of his back and stretched for the part, bringing the box close enough I could scoop it up in my arms. I stepped back and gave a brush of my hips as I turned away from Landyn and carried the fender over to the project car. I was thankful for the distraction because my fingers still tingled from that contact and I knew I was close to seeing how good he could be handling bigger parts and just where I wanted to put them*
Landyn: {I rolled my eyes, of course it was his fault I had to carry enough paper work around to make a large bonfire. But who was I to complain, he looked good, he seemed confident, and I hoped to hell he’d make my job easier. Not that I minded doing the grunt work, it was sort of the reason I kept taking lower paying jobs that kept me physically active. I could do what I wanted, when I wanted. But if I mouthed off and was fired, the next job wasn’t too picky about who they employed. Win/win for me. And for me, while I did tend to speak before my brain engaged, I was fucking good at what I did. And I knew it. Mostly my ability to do the job kept me employed, and of course my ability to move backwards and forward in time, or skip to another place without having to take any kind of transport meant that I was rarely to never late, even if jobs ran over. For the most part, the people I worked for were humans. It was someone on their payroll or client list that had me interested in the job. The fact I’d take these kind of jobs also meant I was popular with anyone and everyone above me. Since it meant they didn’t have to find someone to do the jobs that were less than some thought they were worth. I eyed the amount of stuff in the van and then looked at my list. This was likely to take me a long ass fucking tim……….hello! The brush over my shoulder I noticed instantly, but when his fingers settled on my back I felt my heart sputter in my chest. This wasn’t how I was used to reacting, and it instantly pissed me off. The calm that swept over me had me confused in minutes, even more so that I wanted nothing more than press into that touch, to get more of it. I was statue still as I waited, trying to work out whether to bite or ignore the male beside me. I felt my breathing increase, and I was acutely aware of his proximity to my body, the way his fingers trailed over my back. And the anger was pretty much directed at my shirt, which stopped him being able to to touch my skin. I moved nothing but my eyes, my gaze tracking his movement as he reached to grab one of the larger items, the final brush of his hips seeming to click my brain back online. Fuck! What the hell just happened. Is this what he did to others? We could sense our own, but what we could do, that was pretty much a secret unless we were shown or told. So I had no idea what gifts he had, but apparently his touch was one of them. Had to be. No other reason I’d have reacted like that. I felt a shiver run through me and I grabbed the nearest box to me, barely remembering to check it off the paper before turning, my voice a hushed whisper as I stepped up to Cooper, “Look, I don’t know what that was, but I’m not one of your……………..groupies in a club. Whatever power you have to do that, I’m not playing.” I made sure I held his gaze, standing closer than I probably should, considering. I could feel the lingering effects of his touch even now. The tingling radiating from his touch on my back, the way I could feel myself ignoring every warning in my head as I faced it head on. As was my nature. He wanted to play games, I could play a few of my own.}
Cooper: *I kept the fender in front of me to hide the reaction the male had on me and raised a brow as I heard him follow in a huff. I kept my temper and attitude in check as I turned to face him. Well wasn’t that an interesting reaction. Anger and a bit of…something else. It seemed that I wasn’t the only one who had been affected by that touch. My lip quirked into a grin as I stepped close to Landyn once more* If I were playing games with you, you would know it. For the record, my abilities tend to revolve around technical manipulation. I have no interest in groupies or even manipulating others to enjoy my touch. Whatever you felt, that’s purely chemical. Maybe you need to step back and figure out why…or if you’re really curious…. *I set the fender down where I needed it and grabbed the box from Landyn, setting it on the floor before I stood to my full height and closed in on the male. Something about him had intrigued me and sparked something inside me I’d not felt in a long while. I didn’t even think of how odd it was that my last guy was replaced by another demon in a town where we weren’t exactly in abundance. Right now all I could think of was the way my fingers still tingled. I wondered if it felt like that because he was the first of my kind I’d touched like that in….who the fuck knows how long, or was it something more? I kept walking until his only options were to back up or push me away. There was something in his tone, in the way he carried himself that led me guessing with my next sentence.* I could touch you again, push your buttons like I’m sure you do to so many. I’d be willing to bet you still feel the same thing, that spark that comes when my fingers touch your skin. Should I see what happens when I touch you without barriers, slide my fingers under the hem of your shirt. What do you think would happen with that soft spark then? *I hovered my fingers just above his hip, close enough I could feel his heat but not touching, not yet. I kept my eyes locked on his. I was tempting fate and I knew one wrong move, he’d quit the job and my luck I would get a human delivery person. One who’d not understand the need for paper around  me, one more I’d have to keep pretenses up around, but fuck if I could stop myself. It was time to throw down a challenge and see if he’d be willing to cross the line* You wanna feel me push those buttons, Landyn? Or are you afraid of what might happen?
Landyn:: {I couldn’t help the slow blink. I was certain he was speaking in another language and it was one of the few I didn’t understand. I was generally very vocal about how I felt, and i didn’t shy away from much. But to know that he didn’t have the power to pull our kind in, that stumped me. I held his gaze anyway, though I knew my eyes were huge with confusion as I did exactly as he’d asked. I’d gotten pissed at the touch, but at the same time, I’d craved more of it. Wanted to feel that calm that swept through my entire body the minute his fingers had teased over the material of my shirt. My frown hit me hard and then I managed to open and close my mouth again a few times. I didn’t even really process that he’d moved until I felt the heat from his body. Holy shit did that one wake me up. I snapped back into my brain and growled softly. I liked a challenge as much as the next person, but I was normally the one doing the button pushing. I wasn’t used to being the one who was cornered. I felt like if we were in the wild, I’d be some mouse being herded by a lion. I listened, really listened to the words that spilled without apology from the male’s mouth. The things he could do if I so wished. With my permission. And fuck did I want to give that permission. My heart beat hard and fast in my chest. The exit behind the male, in my line of vision. And yet I felt my feet move backwards, jumping as soon as my back hit something. Whatever it was I wasn’t interested, I wasn’t about to look away from Cooper there was something there. Something under the surface that seemed to call to me and I had to take a slow steadying breath before I could even get a word out. “You think I’m that easy to manipulate, to touch? You’ll have to do better than painting pretty pictures in my head. Anyone can throw out images from the last porno they watched. The doing is the hard part.” I had a feeling that my words would be so far from the truth I’d soon be wishing I could take them back. But I didn’t care, I needed to know I could still press some buttons, that I wasn’t out matched here. I’d held Cooper’s gaze and growled again at the challenge he threw down, allowing my lips to curve into a grin before straightening against whatever was at my back and lifting my chin to get in close, my skin already tingling from the hint of a touch at my hip, “I’m not afraid of anything, Coop. Give it your best fucking shot.”}
Cooper: *Watching Landyn go through the various stages of confusion and anger to out right indignation should have had me backing off and apologizing but inside it only seemed to draw me closer. He may have been backing away but I wasn’t giving him a damn inch of room, following right with him until he hit the pillar with his back. I let my hand rest against his hip and grinned as I leaned in closer. I knew he could feel my breath, likely even smell the cinnamon from my gum too* I don’t believe I once called you easy. In fact, I’m kinda banking on you being the opposite of easy. I don’t paint pictures, pretty or not, Landyn, and I have no issues with doing anything. *I slid my finger just under the material of his work shirt, teasing my thumb faintly over the material of his waistband. The skin was soft under my calloused thumb but that wasn’t what registered. Instead it was the fucking lightening bolts that felt like they were shooting up my arm at the connection. That grin on his face followed by the growl told me that I was right about his stubborn streak. He didn’t like not being in control and that would make this all kinds of fun when he willingly gave that up to me, and I had no doubt he would. Especially when he threw down that final challenge. A challenge that had my dick thickening in my coveralls. My other hand raised to settle on the pillar over his shoulder, essentially pinning him into place with my body despite only having that soft hold on his hip where my thumb continued to brush the skin. My gaze stayed on his, occasionally straying to those full lips that begged to be tasted. I could almost hear his heartbeat, one that seemed an echo of my own racing beat. Fear….yeah, but not your typical oh shit something’s gonna eat me or kill my sorry ass, this was the fear that I could fall into something I thought was impossible ever since I was stuck in this damn town for who knows what reason.* Sometimes a little fear is a good thing, Landyn, but I fully intend on giving you my best ‘fucking’ shot.
Landyn:: {I practically cursed when Coopers fingers slipped under the hem of my shirt and barely stroked over my skin. I hadn’t expected the reaction to him, and I certainly hadn’t expected to feel like the two of us should be capable of fueling an entire village with electricity from the mere connection of our bodies. I almost pressed forward again and touched the male in front of me. But I couldn’t bring myself to do that, I wasn’t about to make it that easy. Instead I widened my stance slightly and took a second to connect my brain again, dragging my bottom lip between my teeth to give me that time. I wanted to push him away, but at the same time, I wanted him to continue doing exactly what he was doing. I’d run, as soon as I had an opening I’d finish up my job and go. Then come back again for the next delivery, torture myself a little more and then run again. I’d only allow myself to give into it if I was sure he was safe, or if I was being given a new assignment and someone was taking over my position. Then I’d give in and that would be on my terms. Having said that, none of my previous jobs, fuck, any of my previous partners had connected with me like this. I’d only just met the male, but already I was certain he’d ensure I fucked up at some point. And that was a feeling I wasn’t accustomed to and certainly one I shouldn’t feel that thrill of excitement in my stomach about. The other arm settling in just above my shoulder basically giving me no way out without actually forcing it again hit a button I hadn’t even known I had. I felt like I was the fly in a fucking spider trap. That didn’t happen. I normally either managed to put people off with my less than subtle bitching about anything and everything I could find. Or I was the one in charge. I made these decisions of when and where. And I was totally not used to someone being this forward. I could smell whatever the fuck he was chewing and while his thumb continued to slide over my skin, I could feel the rest of his body heating mine from the close proximity. At the mention of fear I felt my eyes go wide, then narrow. No way had Cooper figured that shit out without so much as a conversation. Instead of answering that, since I couldn’t deny it, I didn’t lie when asked something though i could skirt around things if I needed to, “Give it your best fucking shot, then tell me that you’ll be able to work with me after that. I’m not about to walk into a lawsuit that I hit on you or some shit.” I was pretty sure Cooper knew as much as I did that whether he put in a complaint or not, it’d do little more than move me to another job. Or maybe he didn’t. I honestly had no idea how much the clients knew about their role in things. But I wasn’t sure how to take control of the situation, and I wasn’t sure what Cooper was about to do. But I did know my heart was racing, and for once, I didn’t have that overwhelming need to run.}
Cooper: *When Landyn widened his stance, I used the opportunity to slide my leg between his. I wasn’t sure a piece of paper could fit between us at the moment and yet it still wasn’t close enough for me.  I had one brief moment of clarity and used it to lock the front door with a resounding click, but I left the bay door open. I wanted Landyn to know he still could leave any damn time he wanted to. I knew this was a one time moment though. If he walked out, I’d never push again and hell, Iw wasn’t even sure he’d be back so I was taking advance of the situation while I could. It didn’t take a genius or mind manipulator to see the war in his mind at the situation he found himself in. My thumb kept up the soft brush over his skin and I grinned wider at the heat building.* I am a lot of things, Landyn, but I’m no sue-happy human. I have nothing to complain about, not even if you walked out right this moment. My business and my sex life are two separate things. Right now, business is the last thing on my mind. I won’t force you into anything, once you walk out that door though, t’s up to you what happens next *My lips ghosted his as I leaned in closer, my voice dropping to a scant whisper* Make no mistake though, Landyn. When you give yourself to me, and you will, it will be done so freely and without a single arm twist from me, unless you’re into that sort of thing. *My lips curved into a wicked smile as I pictured that image, his arms twisted behind him, bound and on his knees, and a growl slipped out. I wouldn’t be surprised if he could feel my erection against his thigh as I pressed my lower half closer intentionally for that reason. It had been too long, that’s all there was to it. I needed this…needed him* Tell me, Landyn, are you into that sort of thing? Would you let me restrain your arms while you’re on your knees before me? Could I tie you up, render you unable to move, before I swallowed your dick like it was the finest meal I ever had?
Landyn:: {I twitched just slightly when Cooper slid his leg between mine. I was sure I should have some kind of argument about how invading my personal space wasn’t what I wanted. But for the life of me, nothing was coming to my mind. The heat from his body was radiating and surrounding me, his scent and his presence was like a bubble surrounding me that I had no intention of moving out of. The lock from the front door barely registered, as I could still see out of the bay doors to the big wide world. But none of that was important. I had no idea how long we’d have until his employee came back. And frankly, I didn’t give a shit. That damn touch kept up the slow sweep at my hip, and I found that I wanted to feel him everywhere, not just on my cock, which was pretty much up for anything now that I was pinned. The fact I could feel Cooper was in the same predicament did nothing to calm my desire. I had to actually blink a few times to keep myself out of my own head when he started talking, unable to focus on his lips when he spoke, the space between us wouldn’t allow me to focus on more than his eyes. I almost answered, but then his lips teased over mine, successfully short circuiting my brain. I almost frowned as I tried to think on whether this had ever happened before. And no, it hadn’t. That jolt of fear shot through me again, making my heart skip. I liked control, needed to know I was in control. All the time. I wasn’t good when things were taken out of my hands. I might know far more about Cooper than he’d want me to, but he wasn’t aware of that. And I wasn’t about to let him know. This was about right now. Done and finished. Scratch and itch, and whether I trusted him to be the one who could do that. All at once I plopped this into the ‘new experience’ box of my head and instantly become hyper aware of everything again. My body had already reacted to Cooper’s presence and proximity, and I found myself ok with just letting my body go full steam ahead. The mental images did more than just get my cock to twitch in my pants, my brain sparked to life. Allowing the pictures of what that might look like to filter through, the gasp and low groan wasn’t something I’d planned. Slipping out without thought. I swallowed hard and tried to find the words, “No, never tried. Um, experimented here and there. Shit.” I lifted my eyes to the ceiling for a minute, trying to find the words I wanted. I never had this problem, I growled at myself and then focused my full attention on Cooper, pulling the words out even if they ended up pissing the male off, it was what I did when I was unsure. “Sure thing, I’ll let you do that. I like trying new things. Think you can do that before your very pleasant employee returns to witness the show?”}
Cooper:: *Every twitch, every hitch of his breath, every movement he made seemed to have some invisible pull on me, or more specially on my throbbing cock. I enjoyed the confusion and frustration that seemed to sweep over Landyn’s face and I knew that I was on the mark with a few of my observations. I also knew that this moment was just that, a moment. Something that would end the moment he walked out the door. And if it didn’t I was sure I’d be relocated soon anyway. I never was able to stay in one place too long, always moved for whatever reason. Not that I was given one…ever. But for now, I had a hot, willing, demon before me and I was going to thoroughly enjoy myself while I could. That gasp of his and the groan that followed gave me the final push I needed and when he asked about my returning employee, it took several clicks of the brain to realize what the fuck he was talking about. I let out a low growl and stepped back for a moment* Don’t fucking move! *I pulled my phone out of my pocket and kept my gaze pinned on the demon to see if he would listen as I dialed up Clint’s cell*Hey kid, listen, I had a minor incident at the shop with some chemicals and shit, I’m thinking it’d just be best for you to call it a night. No…no, I’ll swing by with your books after I get it cleaned up, it’s pretty toxic and I’d hate your dad to try to kick my ass because you ended up sick or something. No worries and I’ll even pay you for a full shift. Yeah…I’m a real gem. Have a good one, Clint. *The phone slid back into my pocket and I dimmed the lights in the shop as I turned my back on Landyn and dug through a box to find what I wanted. I held up a handful of zip ties and grinned. While not my preferred method of restraint, they’d do well enough for now, and were still flimsy enough a demon could snap easily if they chose. I turned back to Landyn and walked methodically towards him, my smile wide and wicked.* I can do all those things and more now that we have the shop to ourselves. The question is, where do I begin?  *I dragged my tongue over my bottom lip as I got closer, my brain mentally tracing out each hard line already as I debated which I wanted more. His mouth on me or mine on him*
Landyn:: {I almost laughed when my words were processed. Almost. I was still having more trouble than I should have with processing a normal reaction to the male. But hell, I’d try anything once. And it wasn’t like I couldn’t just play with time in a heartbeat and be somewhere else. I took a slow, deep breath when Cooper moved back and hoped that the growl would make an appearance again. The noise sent a shot of desire straight south and I wasn’t about to hide that fact. My brow raised and I kept my gaze locked on the male, my grin growing into a smirk. Giving the human the day off would probably be easily explained away, but the fact he’d gone to that extreme had me wondering what he had planned. I almost faltered when I realised that he obviously wasn’t about to get things over and done with quickly. This would take time, and patience was not my strong suit. My gaze flicked to the open doors, not because I wanted out, but mainly due to their access to the outside world. I couldn’t tell if I would want them open or closed. The thought of getting caught didn’t bother me, I’d been caught in far worse situations than I was likely to be in shortly. And by much more important people than those who were liable to make an appearance at this horrifically named place. Without thought I felt my gaze land on the sign, the grimace on my face was probably more than visible before I got my brain back in the game. Focus! I tipped my chin when Cooper moved and watched as he grabbed up what he needed, the appearance of zip ties making me chuckle deeply. They would keep me wherever he wanted me, but without any worry that I wouldn’t get out should I need to. I watched the male move closer, his eyes already seeming to strip me naked without even touching me. That alone sent a shiver threading through my body, and once again I didn’t bother hiding it. Instead I stepped forward just enough to allow myself the ability to open my arms to the side. My grin was wide and I hadn’t bothered to change my stance from when his knee had been pressed up against me, “I could start singing about where to begin, but I feel that might ruin the mood.” I threw a wink at the male and then groaned when his tongue swept across his bottom lip. Instead of focusing on that I started turning in a slow circle, arms only bending to stop myself from hitting anything within range, “See anywhere appealing?”}
Cooper: *My lip quirked as I stopped just out of his reach, watching that smile and listening to the cocky words that came out of his mouth* You start singing and I  might be tempted to stuff that mouth with something to keep you quiet, Kulote. *I didn’t hide the heat in my eyes or the low growl that slipped out as he spun before me, giving me another glimpse of that tight ass of his. I closed the distance and grabbed one of his arms, folding it behind his back as I pressed close, my words hot against the side of his neck* I see many places that look quite appealing. *The zip tie was secured around one wrist and then I grabbed and twisted the other, securing them together  before I used the joined connection to hold him in place as my pelvis slid against his ass* I want you to know this is not a regular occurrence for me *I don’t know why I felt the need to tell him that, but at the moment it was imperative that he knew that. I inhaled his scent deeply, looking for any lingering fear, but even as I was looking for signs of that, I couldn’t resist trailing my tongue over the side of his neck. His skin was salty and clean there and I wanted more, I bit the crook of his neck while my other hand slid around his waist, trailing up his abs and chest to close my fingers gently around his throat* Are you ready to run yet, or are you still interested to see where I decide to taste next?  Because if you stay, I plan on tasting you  all over until you can’t stand it any longer, then, and only then, will I decide if I’m going to fuck you or just let you walk out wanting, needing, craving that release.
Landyn::{I arched a brow at the words, wanting to ask what Kulote meant, but not being able to when I was being looked at with such appreciation. I had to clear my throat to stop myself from grinning, though it might have added to the outward appearance of cocky had I just outright grinned at the male. I just couldn’t find it in myself to do that. I had some kind of hiccup going on in my stomach. It wasn’t a bad thing, but something I’d not felt before. Like, I should be paying more attention to what was happening rather than put up my usual mask and hide behind it. Instead I tried to keep my brain running in some kind of forward motion, keeping myself fluid so Cooper could do whatever he pleased. I knew I could get out of the zip ties if needed. I knew I could leave the place in a heartbeat, and that allowed me to trust what was happening. Even while the uncertainty danced right along with the heat that was flushing through my system. I took stock of the feeling of the warmth as it radiated against my back, my skin pebbling when he moved and the cooler air brushed over my heated skin. It was something new for me, something I hadn’t felt, ever. I took charge normally. Taking what I wanted and leaving. And I never mixed business with pleasure. Certainly not on the first fucking day of the job. New experience was one thing, but really, my brain must have gone out the window along with my self control. I managed to inhale slowly, a shiver hitting me hard when I felt that wet slide of his tongue along my neck, “Um, no, me either. I mean, first day of a new job and all, who’d have seen this being the outcome?” I tried for a shrug, desperately trying to keep the male at arms length while still actually enjoying what he was doing. I felt I should be doing something, touching or speaking or moving, but with my wrists tied I was limited. It was a weird feeling. But one I didn’t outright hate. I flexed my fingers and tipped my head slightly as I groaned softly, “Not ready to run. Though I’m happy to give that a go if it turns you on?” I arched a brow, though I knew he’d probably see past that. I was feeling less like I cared what he saw, and just wanted to see what he’d do next.}
:Cooper: *I shifted my body so that my hard bulge brushed over his bound hands as my thumb pressed against the vein in his throat, my lips and tongue exploring almost lazily as he spoke. I could feel his heart beat against his skin and swore I could almost hear that thud against my ears, which was impossible.* I think we can save the running for next time, Landyn. For now, I’ll just enjoy the feast before me. *My fingers slid from his throat down to undo the buttons on his shirt so my fingers could trail over each hard line unencumbered by any fabric. Hot. Not just in looks but his skin singed my fingers or at least that’s how it felt. Maybe it was nerves, apprehension, whatever it was, I craved more. I gave one last press of my hips against his flexing fingers and growled low as my need for him grew. The only way this was stopping is if he busted free and ran because otherwise,I was a fucking goner for him. I stepped back and slid my coveralls over my shoulders, letting the sleeves hang at my hips, the light tee I wore under was stretched tight and already feeling damp with sweat but I couldn’t be bothered to remove anymore yet, it was his skin I wanted revealed, his taste I needed like my next breath. I turned him towards me and helped his fingers find the pillar behind him for support as my lips again find that salty skin at the crook of his neck while my hand slid along his side and down to the waistband of his slacks, easing between us as I curled my fingers over his growing erection* Besides, I think if I were anymore turned on, the sprinklers would be going off to quell the growing fire.
Landyn: {I couldn’t help the laugh that cracked past my lips when the demon all but admitted the practically tangible spark in the air. I wasn’t all that far behind him, the only thing really holding me back was my brain. It was still somewhere between ‘this is a great idea’ and ‘holy fuck, what are you doing’. I felt my chin tip without so much as an uttered word with the slow side of Coopers fingers over the buttons of my shirt. Happily allowing him to strip me, do whatever he wanted to me. I could feel the heat from his body, his touch and where his cock was pressed to my palm. Though that only lasted a minute before he stepped away again. I didn’t shy away as that first layer was removed, though I did take a minute to appreciate the play of muscles I could see plain as day under the white shirt. It stretched tight across his chest and pulled in nicely at his waist, I was pretty sure the cuffs would snap with how much they had to give. Though I almost groaned when nothing else was exposed. Instead I lifted my gaze from the show before me and met the male head on. Watching as he got in close again, glad that I had the post behind me for support, and more than a little surprised that he had helped me find it. This was a situation I’d never been in, and so far I had to admit I was enjoying it. Though I wouldn’t be as forward as to show that just yet. Instead I dragged my tongue along my bottom lip and then I had no choice but to stop my head to the side. Those lips dragging pure fire across my skin. I was sure I was going to lose my mind as I frantically tried to hold onto the cocky side that had allowed me to stay somewhat detached up until now. The minute his skilled fingers found my cock though, that was enough to short circuit my brain. A shudder hitting me violently with a rolling heat that pebbled my skin.. I found I was unable to do much more than whisper for more, my hips rolling in response, silently begging for the male to keep up with what he was doing. Suddenly wanting nothing more than to experience it all before walking away.} #FuckingBadIdea
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders' Edition Review
Even when the powerhouse GeForce GTX 1080 was released in the middle of 2016, we knew there would be a "Ti" version halfway into its lifecycle. That's how Nvidia has operated for at least its past three product generations. This strategy allows it to hedge against any surprises AMD might pull out of its hat, and also keep things fresh for those who have the money to spend.
The top-end "Ti" cards are usually slightly cut-down versions of the insanely powerful Titan products that are based on physically larger and more powerful GPUs. Those cards are aimed more at professionals in the content creation and data visualisation than at gamers, and are therefore absurdly expensive. That doesn't stop them from being absolute beasts at gaming, though, and so it isn't hard to see the appeal of a "Ti" model that offers almost all the performance of its equivalent Titan model at a greatly reduced price.
With this current generation of graphics cards, Nvidia has no competition at the top, and therefore no real reason to launch a new flagship (let alone cut the price of its previous one). AMD won't be launching its next-gen Vega-based cards for a few months, so maybe this is Nvidia's way of intimidating its only competitor. Either way, we as buyers get more for our money, so we aren't complaining.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti architecture and specifications Nvidia's product names don't necessarily tell you what's going on behind the scenes. The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti might seem like just a variant or even a higher clocked version of the GeForce GTX 1080, but in reality, the piece of silicone at its heart is completely different. The GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 are siblings, based on a chip codenamed GP104 - the lower priced model just has a few sections disabled and runs slightly slower for a proportionate reduction in power. The GTX 1080 Ti is a similarly cut-down version of the beefier GP102 GPU, which we first saw in last year's Nvidia Titan X.
The Titan X's GP102 has 3,584 execution units called CUDA cores grouped into 12 clusters called Streaming Multiprocessors. and 12GB of high-speed GDDR5X RAM. Surprisingly, GTX 1080 Ti has the same number - none have been disabled. The difference lies in how these clusters connect to the GPU's cache. While the Titan X has 96 ROPs (Raster Operation Pipelines) and 3MB of L2 cache, the GTX 1080 Ti loses one-twelfth of that capacity, going down to 88 ROPs and 2.8MB L2 cache. That's also why the new card has 11GB of GDDR5X RAM on a 352-bit bus instead of the 12GB of its bigger sibling on a 384-bit bus.
Reducing one-twelfth of one subsystem's functionality really doesn't seem like enough to differentiate two products, especially if one is priced at $1200 and the other at $699. Making things more peculiar is the fact that the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti actually runs a little faster than the Titan X: the GPU base and boost speeds are 1480MHz/1582MHz vs 1417MHz/1531MHz, and the memory is clocked at 11Gbps vs 10Gbps resulting in memory bandwidth of 484GBps compared to 480GBps.
Speaking of memory, Nvidia says that the GTX 1080 Ti uses the fastest ever GDDR5X RAM, thanks to manufacturing process improvements made since the first card to use it, the GTX 1080, was released last year. Unfortunately, we don't have a Titan X card to test alongside the GTX 1080 Ti, but we'd be surprised if there really was that much of a difference between the two when it comes to gaming - the difference between 11GB and 12GB is purely academic. Nvidia's own published materials show that very few of today's games can use more than 8GB of VRAM, and that too only if running at 5K resolution or beyond.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders' Edition The graphics card that we see here is pretty much identical to the Founders' Edition models that Nvidia has released before. It has a faceted matte silver aluminium shroud and a single blower-style fan. The GeForce GTX logo on the top lights up in green when the card is powered up. There's a simple black backplate for stability, but you can take off a part of it if airflow is a problem.
Beneath the shroud is a copper vapour chamber. Nvidia says that this is a new design that covers twice as much surface area as before, thanks to the removal of the legacy DVI port on the rear panel. This should improve heat dissipation and prevent the fan spinning up as often or as much. We've never had a problem with noise when using previous Founders' Edition cards, but improvements are always welcome.
There are SLI fins on the top, and you'll need Nvidia's High-Bandwidth SLI bridge to link up to two cards. You'll find one HDMI 2.0b and three DisplayPort 1.4 outputs on the rear panel. DVI didn't have the bandwidth to carry 4K signals at high refresh rates anyway, but there's a DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter in the box for those who need to connect an older monitor for whatever reason. Those who use VR headsets might have to swap cables because there's only one HDMI port.
The GTX 1080 Ti's rated TDP is 250W, and you'll need one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCIe power connector. Nvidia has also redesigned its power circuitry, and the new GTX 1080 Ti Founders' Edition features 7-phase FETs. Unlike with the Titan X, partners such as Asus, MSI, and Zotac will be able to release their own cards with custom coolers, clock speeds, and other tweaks, so don't be surprised to see overclocked cards with more robust power specifications.
Nvidia seems to have realised that its Founders' Edition cards are perceived as vanilla options, just as stock cooler models were before the idea of branding them came about. The company has wisely decided not to charge a premium anymore, and so this card carries the same Rs. 63,000 ($699) price tag as custom cards will start at.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders' Edition usage and performance We tested the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti on our brand new AMD Ryzen test rig. While gaming was one of the Ryzen's very few weak points, we're testing exclusively at 4K and AMD says that potential CPU bottlenecks even out, allowing any GPU to show what it can do. Nvidia provided us with driver version 378.78 for testing prior to its public release. When comparing scores with those of the GeForce GTX 1080 we tested last year, please note that the test bench used was quite different. The specifications are as follows:
 ComponentCPUAMD Ryzen 7 1800XMotherboardMSI X370 Xpower Gaming TitaniumRAM2x8 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000Graphics cardNvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders' EditionSSD250GB WD Blue SSDCPU coolerNoctua NH-U12S SE -AM4PSUCorsair RM650MonitorAsus PB287QOSWindows 10
Starting with the ever-faithful 3DMark, we see the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti simply slicing through all test runs. While the GTX 1080 Founders' Edition scored 5,075 and Asus' Strix GeForce GTX 1080 scored 5,200 in the Fire Strike Ultra run, our brand new GTX 1080 Ti Founders' Edition posted a massive 6,814. In the new DirectX 12 Time Spy test, we got a score of 8,829. For the sake of comparison, AMD's Radeon RX 480 posted 2,637 in Fire Strike Ultra and 4,067 in Time Spy.
Things continued in much the same vein with the rest of our tests. We saw the GTX 1080 Ti casually stomping all over its predecessor as well as the competition. Unigine Valley gave us an average of 83.3fps running at its maximum resolution of 2560x1440 at Ultra quality - however, it's worth noting that there was a huge variance between the minimum of 20.2fps and the maximum of 144.8fps. Star Swarm, an intense space battle simulation, managed 78.96fps.
We ran through a number of games that have built-in benchmarks. These scores are generated over a consistent run, so they can be compared between GPUs and test platforms. Starting with GTA V, we logged 100.085fps on average, with very few noticeable glitches and a solid average frame time of 9.99ms.
Metro: Last Light Redux can really push a system to its knees, and we recorded only 30.33fps with noticeable tearing at 4K with the Very High preset and all independent quality settings pushed up to their max (except for antialiasing at 4X). Needless to say, this game can scale better with its settings turned down.
Ashes of the Singularity is a modern DirectX 12 title, and we got an average of 53.3fps when running at its Crazy quality preset at 4K. Going down to the High preset increased our score to 63.4fps. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided gave us 47.9fps with a minimum of 39.4fps and a maximum of 60.2fps at its Very High preset when using DX12. We also ran Rise of the Tomb Raider in DX12 mode and got an average of 62.89fps witih a minimum of 37.32fps and a maximum of 96.70 using the Very High preset
We then sat down and played through a few games manually, logging frame rates and times using FRAPS whenever possible. This allows us to see how much each title stresses the test bench, and how high the settings can be pushed before the overall experience begins to get compromised. With a GPU like the GTX 1080 Ti at our disposal, we decided to max out every possible option and then work our way down from there, if needed.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of today's most beautiful and demanding games. We used the Ultra graphics preset and High post-processing preset with no FPS cap. We ran, swam, and rode a horse around a village and logged an average of 51fps but noticed quite a few torn frames. The average frame time was 19.8ms and that went down to 24.3ms (lower is better) at the 99th percentile. We would need to tweak the settings just a tiny bit to smooth this over, but gameplay was still enjoyable.
We expected the older Far Cry 4 to play as smooth as butter, but it did put up a tiny bit of resistance at 4K using its Ultra preset. We averaged 69fps with slightly uneven frame pacing in a few spots. We stayed below the 16.7ms mark with an average of 16.6ms, which only dropped to 19.4ms at the 99th percentile.
Doom (2016) is one of the lightest games in our portfolio, and makes even low-end cards look great. We wanted to see how it would do so we took it for a spin at 4K using the Ultra preset and Vulkan renderer. The game's built-in reporting tool showed 85-100fps on average in the Foundry level, and play was perfectly smooth.
Throughout our test period, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders' Edition card ran cool and quiet. There was a slight fluttering sound when the fan spun up or down, but otherwise nothing more than a distant hum. If even that much sound is too much, you might want to consider third-party cards with more elaborate multi-fan cooling solutions.
Verdict We're more than happy with the performance we've seen from the Founders' Edition card, and if past trends continue, we'll see partners including Asus, Zotac, and MSI squeeze even more juice out of the same GPU with their custom coolers. Nvidia doesn't sell its own branded graphics cards in India but the reference models from all third parties will be identical to the one we've tested. Sources in the industry tell us that only reference cards will be available at launch time, with custom SKUs coming in only after a few weeks or months, but on the bright side, at least some of them will sell at Nvidia's recommended price of Rs. 63,000.
That price is probably the best part of this launch. Nvidia doesn't have any competition at this level right now and could easily have priced the GTX 1080 Ti a step higher than the GTX 1080, or even rested on its laurels till such time as it really needed to whip out a competitor. However, Nvidia chose to launch the new GTX 1080 Ti at the same price as the GTX 1080, when it launched in late May last year. In India, the Rupee price is actually Rs. 250 less.
AMD now has a higher bar to reach if it wants to be competitive with its Vega products this year - and we're looking forward to covering this battle as it unfolds. Till then, this is a great time pick up that top-end graphics card you've been itching for. You'll get more for your money with a GTX 1080 Ti, or alternatively, you'll save quite a bit by picking up a GTX 1080 Founders' Edition card for somewhere near its new recommended price of Rs. 45,000.
Don't even bother with the Nvidia Titan X, which sells for well over a lakh - whatever marginal improvement there might be just isn't worth it, even if you need compute power for jobs other than gaming. The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is more than enough for pushing 4K at around 60fps, and that carries over to smaller high-refresh-rate monitors and even VR headsets.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders' Edition Price: Rs. 63,000
Pros Excellent performance for 4K gaming No price increase compared to the GTX 1080 Runs cool and quiet
Cons None
Ratings (Out of 5) Performance: 5 Value for Money: 5 Overall: 5
Recently got a request for Martin/male reader. I tried posting this earlier but the app was being a bitch😭 anyways here ya go mate.
Martin thought that he discovered all his secrets, at least the ones he held closely to his heart. Everything that pertained to his sickness. His own personal secret as he would watch them. They were just so pretty.The way their pulse would beat that much quicker, the closer he drew them to his chest. They felt so warm and alive even in their sedated state. He craved the attention in real life, but there was no way that any of them would notice him. He couldn’t understand why he craved your attention the moment you walked into the shop.
The doorbells jungled as you entered the shop with a hearty laugh,with your full entorongue trailing right behind you. Raising a slender hand you raked your fingers through your hair as you allowed a moment to take in your surroundings.
“Well look what we have here” You exclaim, holding the magazine in front of your face. Your lackeys immediately swarm behind you.
Tilting the book, slightly to the left, pulling down the page “Ohh! This is priceless.”
Normally he didn’t care. The magazines were for the customers to read as they pleased.  In an instant Cuda was right behind Martin, eyes focused on you and your group. “Watch them…” He mutters under his breath, Martin shifts uncomfortably onto his other foot. He hated that part, when Cuda wanted him to act as security, closely surveying ‘questionable’ customers. It didn’t seem like a task that he would mind, he watched people all the time. But this was different, there was no true intent behind any of it. And for the most part he could care less if they stole from his cousin.
With a sigh Martin picks up a broom and leisurely begins to sweep, trailing behind your group as you guys shopped. Your friends would pick things up and but them down at random places in the store. At one point he wanted to laugh to himself when he found an apple with exactly three bites out of it sitting on top of one of the candy bins. Your group seemed to be close to his age if not a few years older. He pondered briefly if you guys were from out of town, he definitely would have noticed you before. After a while his attention is focused on you as your finders trail along the shelves, you were close to his height maybe an inch taller, with an almost similar haircut. You were dressed in a red plaid shirt sands the sleeves, and a pair of slightly worn jeans. If anything he wanted to laugh you looked like you had stepped out of a movie. The stereotypical ‘’bad guy’’  that all the girls would fawn over. He never got it. That was probably why nobody truly noticed him. He was about as intimidating as a  mouse.
Every once and a while one of his friends would glance over and he would have to pretend to be absorbed in his task. At one point the blond one gave you a nudge, motioning over to your direction. Even as Martins eyes were averted, pins and needles-- he could feel the intensity of your stare. Your friend was whispering something that he couldn’t quite hear. He could distinctly hear you mutter.
“Nice…”
You guys make your way over to the next aisle as Martin grips the broom that much tighter. He watched you through one of the cracks in the shelves, it gave him the perfect moment to fully take in your appearance. He allows his eyes to move over your features as a strange feeling settles in his chest. He didn’t want to look away for some reason your face looked so familiar. He wanted to hear your voice. “Shh..” You mutter, quickly looking around before cracking a smirk.
“All I’m saying is, when was the last time you got laid?” His friend laughed.  You shove him
almost roughly, he could have sworn a blush was spreading across your face. More muffled snickers as you venture further down the aisle. With a deep breath Martin trails behind, his mouth suddenly dry for some reason.
Your group begins to work their way towards the front of the store, you already had several items in your hands. Every now and then, you would glance around, at one point your eyes actually met. Martin could have sworn his soul escaped his body, but he couldn’t find it in him to look away. You regarded him with an almost unreadable expression, he felt as though you were staring straight through him.
“Hey… you work here?”
Martin opened his mouth, but for a moment was unable to speak. It felt like the longest moment of his life. Why wasn’t he able to answer a simple question? More laughter, he could feel himself turning impossibly red, as he gripped the broom that much tighter. “Maybe he’s deaf..” One of your friends whispers. “Hey… are you braindead?” The blonde one asks. “Stuff it.” You mutter under your breath.
“Hey!” you call again, only then does Martin find his voice. “Yes. I mean --Yeah I work here.”
You look at him as if he’s grown a second head, widening your eyes just a bit. “Well… Can we check out? I mean unless this shits on the house.”
Martin quickly places the broom aside as he makes his way over to the counter. He keeps his eyes on the items as he skans them, hoping to god you wouldn’t notice the way his hands shook. His heart was threatening to explode out of his chest, he could feel his heartbeat in his throat. You watch him curiously as he scans the items trying to get a clear look at his face. A task that was easier said than done, floppish brown hair fell into his eyes-- your gaze shifts to his delicate hands. You cut your eyes back over to your friend, the blonde who more than likely was thinking the same thing. He shoots you a glance, raking his tongue over his teeth. “Dibs... “
“Not on your life…”
‘’ So like, what’s there to do in this town?I been here less than a week and this shit’s dull.”
Martin only gives a small shrug as he continues to bag your items.
“Any restaurants? Cool spots to hang-- where ah-- where do you go to meet girls?”
“I wouldn’t know.” The three word response gained a quiet sort of hum from your friend group-- the blonde shifts onto the other foot. Martin just wanted to bag your items so you could go-- he didn’t know how he would react if he had to look at you up close.
“Wow, lame town-- dodgy service There’s a thing called eye contact pal.” Despite the snippiness of your words Martin could hear laughter behind your voice.  With a deep breath he finally looks up meeting your gaze as if to ask “are you happy now?” Now it was your turn to look surprised, if not a tiny bit flustered. Your gaze moves over his features drinking them in--eyes unsure just where to land. They settled on his full lips that were nearly formed into a pout for probably a few seconds longer than necessary. You straighten up a bit suddenly aware of the way you were leaning on the counter like a slob.  “ Sorry man, I was just asking. I'm new here,  just trying to get a feel for the place.”
Martin had finally finished bagging your items and at this point waiting for you to pay. “ I haven’t been here long myself. About a month. This is my cousin’s shop-- I just work here.. I don’t really go out.” You nod your head thoughtfully for a moment, he could detect a strange sort of glimmer behind your eyes. It felt so strange yet oddly familiar, heat began to pool at the pit of his stomach. “Gotcha, well thats too bad man I was hoping you could help me out. Maybe show me around if you had time.”  What were you saying? What should he say? For a moment he was upset that he honestly couldn’t answer your question. “Im y/n by the way, Im from Philly.”
“Martin, Indianapolis.”
Soon enough you were all paid up and Martin found himself not wanting you to leave. Your friends could if they wanted to, especially the blonde who kept leering at him like he was a piece of meat. “Well, Martin, it was nice talking to ya… Maybe I’ll see you around town some time.” Martin chews on his bottom lip anxiously before he nods in agreement-- he could have sworn you looked almost relieved.
He went home that day repeatedly going over your interaction-- mentally kicking himself for how uninteresting he must have seemed. Why exactly he cared, he wasn’t sure. He just knew that he wanted to impress you, but now he might not get the chance. Little did he know that you were already planning to return to the shop tomorrow. This time without the rest of your friends.
Martin being touched starved and finally getting the affection that he didn't know he wanted or needed and then never wanting to let it go
This went on a bit longer than I thought it would and it might have spun off into two different directions. I was gonna do this as a headcannon but then I started typing, um, here ya go.
Martin wasn’t sure about much in his life, but he was sure that he wanted you. He wanted you in the purest sense of the word, he wanted to give himself to you completely. Around you he finally felt at ease. He was calm, there was no more pressure in his head, his mind was no longer constantly racing. There was only you and your soothing presence, and the ever present warmth that radiated from your skin.
In the beginning things were different, it was like he was afraid to be in the same room. You danced around each other like cats, at that point you were pretty sure he hated you. You would always be cordial, giving him the benefit of the doubt--his behavior most likely had something to do with your godfather. He would always watch you when he thought you weren't aware little did he know you were aware of his every move. You could even sense that he wanted to come closer --but there was always the lingering doubt. He was afraid of what would happen if he did. At times you really hated the old man.
You never pushed or pried, happy to give him all the space he needed. It was after about two weeks that you noticed a change. Usually when you entered the room he would automatically leave. Or, he would exit the moment you’d step in. But one day, it was after you had gotten back from work, your bag rested on the kitchen table. You were tired--so tired, your feet practically had their own pulse, all you wanted was a moment to decompress. After a few moments the screen door swung open as Martin made his way into the room. The second he spotted you, he paused in mid step, regarding you with an unreadable expression. You reach for your bag already preparing to leave, but then you notice he wasn’t already turning away. Instead he regards you for a second longer before glancing away leisurely making his way towards the sink.
You were utterly confused for a moment, should you leave? You weren’t even bothered that you had to walk on eggshells in your own house. You just wanted to understand. There was so much you wanted to learn about Martin-- you just wanted to put him at ease. You watch as he rummages through the cabinets for a glass-- he turns the faucet on filling it with water. He takes a sip before placing it down, only halfway glancing over his shoulder. After a moment, he takes out another glass filling up placing it on the table in front of you. And with that he was gone.
The next few days were just the same, he seemed less bothered by your presence. You would speak to him here and there, just a casual greeting-- he would go as far as to nod his head. It was ...progress in your opinion, definitely progress. You had already decided that the two of you may never be close, but you at least wanted him to be comfortable enough in his new home. He would look at you more, no longer glancing away when you spotted him. There was that same unreadable expression. What was he thinking? Despite the oddness of the situation, his gaze never came across as disconcerting. It was almost like he was trying to figure you out. What did he want to know, all he had to do was ask.
He began to speak to you, though he never initiated the conversation. His replies were always one word answers. He seemed perfectly content with listening to you-- if he wasn’t going to say anything, he was going to listen. Aside from Christina, you were the only one who acknowledged him in the house. For the most part Cuda just pretended he wasn’t there. One day, the two of you were in the living room actually seated together on the couch, his attention would shift between your rant about work and the magazine in his hand. “ I mean, I don't mind closing by myself once in a while, but if I leave a list.. Thats what needs to be done!” At this point he had placed his magazine aside as he regards you with a curious expression. With a sigh, you run your fingers through your hair before sparing him a brief glance. You felt the heat begin to rise to your face at your own endless ranting. Now you were the one who was probably being rude, he was clearly trying to read. But then you saw it-- so faint but it was there, was he actually smiling? Nearly undetectable, it touched the corners of his lips, and then he spoke up “You should quit…”  He was right. It wasn’t the most impolite way to say shut up. “Excuse me?”
“You don’t like it there do you?”  “Well, no.” “Then quit--”  You were about to mutter some kind of excuse, when the two of you heard the sound of the back door swing open. Cuda was home, and MArtin quickly excused himself up stairs. Did the two of you actually have a conversation?
Things seemed to flow more naturally from there, he began to speak to you more and more. He would ask you questions-- he left them pretty open ended. And he would just sit there and listen to what you had to say. At times he would almost appear to be in a daze, as though your voice had put him into a translike state. “Martin?”  He would thoughtfully nod his head “ And then what did you do?”
At times he would stand close to you, perhaps closer than he needed to. It didn’t feel odd or off putting in the slightest-- in fact you actually wanted him to come closer. Something about the way the heat would emanate from his skin. Close enough that you could smell the clean cotton fabric of his shirt. If he liked to listen to you, then you surely liked to be near him just as much. His nearness was almost intoxicating.
The two of you began to have talks out on the porch, most of the time after dinner. Cuda would be preparing to meet with some of the men from church, and Christina most likely had a date with Arthur. For the most part the two of you talked about mundane things, he even started to tell you about working at the shop. You would throw subtle jabs at the older women he worked with, you considered it a feat whenever you got him to smile. As time went by, the two of you would draw closer-- at this point it was unclear who initiated it. It was like an invisible string pulling the two of you together. You were nearly arm and arm at this point, and for some reason you had this overwhelming urge to rest your head on his shoulder. You refrained of course, but he was silent now. You hadn’ even noticed when he stopped talking. You could feel it, it was the oddest sensation, he was so close you could almost feel his pulse. That was impossible, but it was almost as though your breath had synced. He speaks up suddenly, startling you out of your reprieve.” y/n, Im sorry.”  Sorry? “For what Martin?”
He’s silent for a moment so you tilt your head in an attempt to read his expression. His head was downcast, brown hair falling into his eyes--you had to resist the urge to brush it away from his forehead. “For how I acted earlier. I- in the beginning. I don’t hate you… you know that right?” Something coiled inside, he sounded so innocent in that moment--as though he actually believed you were upset with him. Tentatively you reach out placing a hand on his shoulder, he flinches, but doesn’t move away. “Martin… can you look at me?” He doesn’t respond. “Could you look at me..please?” Slowly he turns to face you, eyes still downcast you could have sworn you felt him start to tremble. You place your hand on his other shoulder squeezing gently, beckoning him to look at you. You had to be careful, you didn’t want to push him too far, but he had to understand. When he finally meets your gaze, he looks almost frightened--  as though he expected you to lash out and strike him. “Come here…” you offer quietly as your hands carefully ease to his waist. Just resting them there, you can feel him shift closer-- your heart was threatening to leap out of your chest. “ Closer… It's okay…” Ever so slowly, you allow your arms to encircle his waist before lightly resting your head against his chest. He remains there frozen for a moment-- so lightheaded he thought he might faint. You were so small and warm even in comparison to his slight frame. You smelled heavenly, was that your shampoo? He didn’t know what he should do with his hands, surely you didn’t want him to touch you? Getting a bit bolder, you press in close enough that your entire front was pressed against his chest. Your arms wrap around him a bit more securely, you could feel his heartbeat thundering in your ears. Please let this be okay…
You were almost about to ask that very question when a small noise escapes his throat. So faint it was between a gasp and a sigh-- but soon enough his arms gently encircle your waist.
He was reeling, mind spinning off into a thousand different directions, what were you doing? Why would you possibly want to touch him? Weren’t you afraid?  He was dreaming, that had to be it! There was no other reasonable explanation. No way to explain why you were pulling him closer-- hands soothingly roaming across his back. A small whimper dies in his throat--he hopes to god you didn’t notice. He instinctively draws your near, resting his cheek against the top of your head. So warm and alive. He could feel the gentle beat of your heart--you smelt so lovely, he thought he might die. He allows himself to repeat the action, lightly smoothing his hands over your back.  The small content sigh that escapes your lips has him holding you all the much tighter.
You remain that was for what feels like an eternity, but in reality it was less than a minute. You were practically melded against his chest, face now resting at the crook of his neck--and his heart was already yours. After a moment you speak, he could feel your breath ghost along his neck causing goosebumps to bloom across the delicate flesh. “I'm really glad you’re here “
