hi, I've answered the first part of your ask here! I never followed mike crazy close so there might be things I missed but basically mike & toptap were quite close friends after 2gether & were shipped by many. then they had a fight that no one knows the content of to this day, but people started theorizing that toptap was in love with mike but mike broke his heart bc he was dating godji, which I don't believe for one second tbh. mike & godji were extremely close for a good couple of years, and would just hang out the two of them together without filming content which raised suspicions. mike & toptap were both in mama gogo and had scenes together that looked really awkward, then toptap left gmmtv in 2022. mike was supposed to be a ship with krist but didn't fit the role of pisaeng so he was replaced by gawin. he probably must have felt terrible about losing his one opportunity for a main role & didn't renew his contract with gmmtv in 2023. since then, I haven't seen him with godji or anyone from gmmtv again...

Hello! Do you have data about branded pairs that start off as side pairs that successfully upgrade and lead their own series? I'm thinking about side pairs like JuniorMark, WinnySatang, and AouBoom that work together for years and multiple series. Maybe side pairs outside of GMMTV have better luck?

Side Couples Make Good

Pair branding kinda wigs me out and while I did start tracking them there just got to be too many, so I gave up, however, I do have a short list that exactly fit your criteria.

BounPrem

One of the first who I remember as a solid side couple in a BL series (Until We Meet Again) that everyone lost their minds over. They were given their own spin-off, as the same couple, Between Us. But they have also lead out Even Sun. They started with Wabi Sabi and moved to GMMTV as a pair and we should be getting a new BL from them soonish.

They are still top sponsorship holders, mostly on the back of that one Lay's potato chip. Solid work there all round, boys.

KimCop

Started in 2 Moons as the side couple that barely got anywhere but went on to have a decent pair lifespan, leading 2 seasons of Gen Y, 2 seasons of Close Friend, and then That's My Candy.

They dissolved the pair, and I, for one, will miss them, mostly because they never got to star in a quality BL and I think they could have.

MaxNat

Still active, they started as a very minor side couple in Why R U? and remained sides in Mandee projects until their 4th BL Naughty Babe. I would never have picked them as an endurance pair, but they stuck to it and it paid out for them. They have a couple new BLs in the works and they seem to have a solid working relationship.

So long as people like watching them, this is my indie pick for the tortoise pair of BL. They could do with some more brand and sponsor deals IMHO but they seem game to keep going no matter what.

TutorYim

Another Mandee pair, very very minor in Cutie Pie but everyone loved them, so they were given leads in 2 more BLs. Middleman's Love (with was a JimmyTommy project before they broke) and Battle of the Writers.

JaFirst

Now defunked, they started as a side couple in TharnType 2. However, I am not sure they meet your criteria since mame often reuses her pairs and its possible they were always intended to go on to star as the leads. They stayed with her for Don't Say No and then branched out to do Remember Me and Be Mine Superstar before dissolving the brand.

They are both still doing BL.

SalibPon

Pon had done a lot of BL before with other pairs, but he left Star Hunter for Change and was paired up with Salib and I think we are all grateful. They got their own show This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans and are now back in Pit Babe 2.

I hope they stick and we get more from them. They are one of my favorite currently active pairs.

A few that kinda fit your criteria that may surprise

OffGun

Started in Puppy Honey 1 & 2 as the side couple. Then lead BL Theory of Love as (sort of) new characters.

TayNew

Started in the 2 season Kiss series as a side couple, got to lead their own spin off in Dark Blue Kiss as that couple, then went on to do other BLs.

MaxTul

Kind of the "side" couple in Bad Romance before they went on to lead the 2 Together series. And more.

I'm not sure I count YinWar as starting as a side couple. They kind of lead out their small section of En of Love. But they are the only pair to come from that franchised to make good.

Going back over 2020 Thai BLs and earlier, I can't find other pairs who made good. So to speak. Some stayed sides for a few more shows, like MikeToptap, and ultimately left their studios and/or broke the pair.

Day 4 - Fave Ship Dynamic

Oh there’s so many ship dynamics that I love. Enemies to lovers? Inject it right into my veins. Sunshine x sunshine protector? Give me a million please and thank you. Dumbass + dumbass interpreter? Give me all the airheads and their smitten boyfriends.

But I really love the Black Cat x Golden Retriever dynamic. I feel like BC x GR is an offshoot of Sunshine x Sunshine Protector but slightly reversed, with the sunshiney golden retriever character bringing the hesitant black cat out of their shell, gradually prying their heart open. Often the black cat will be wounded and the golden retriever character helps them find healing. The black cat character finds a safe space in their golden retriever and they allow themselves to be vulnerable and open to their own emotions.

I feel like this dynamic exists on a spectrum. Like PrapaiSky (Love In The Air) is a very clear example of BC x GR, but it can be softer, similar to how Semantic Error and History 3: Trapped are both examples of enemies to lovers but Jaeyoung and Sangwoo didn’t have guns.

Thanks for the tag @clara-maybe-ontheroad! I'll be honest and say that a lot of the notoriously bad BL I haven't even watched bc I don't waste my time on that shit, so this took me some time, but let's do it:

Worst soundtrack / weirdest song choice in a BL

Honestly usually not one to pay attention to soundtracks, but was never a big fan of all the singing in 2gether.

Most cringe-inducing line (cute)

Probably gotta go with most of the lines by the cast of Secret Crush on You. They are cringey and stupid but I love them. But specifically this line by Nuea makes me laugh every time because STUPID:

Never actually finished but, but legit that's why I couldn't finish it because it was so fucking problematic: TharnType. Is anyone really surprised?

A show people love but you find bad

Oh there's a lot of these, but the two that people might disagree with me most on is Never Let Me Go and Big Dragon. I see a lot of love for those shows and....they didn't do it for me. At all. Just...woof.

Will also add Lovely Writer onto this list. I really just couldn't buy into Gene and Nubsib and Nubsib was a really immature/annoying character. Also, all those sound effects??? Truly grates the nerves.

A show people find bad but you will defend

I'm gonna go with a few of the other answers I saw and say Secret Crush on You and My Only 12% listen: yes, SCOY is not everyone's cup of tea and yes, MY12 has a terrible plot twist ending but, the acting is great, the chemistry is great, the characters are great. I adore them, so I can forgive a few flaws. I mean, look at SantaEarth in all their adorable glory:

A show that is just objectively bad but you enjoyed it

I mean....I don't know that it's objectively bad but I've read a lot of criticism on the filming of Ghost Host, Ghost House, which is fair. It's not as quality as other BLs in terms of filming but man, that show got me in my feels.

A bad show that you kept watching because you were intrigued/fascinated

Tonhon Chonlatee, mostly because I adored Khao in it and MikeToptap's side couple. But that show was an absolute dumpster fire. I just wanna know how AiNhai dated for so long under the same roof as Tonhon without him finding out??? Truly the biggest plot mystery. Then again, Tonhon is also the biggest himbo in all the land.

I would also say Lovely Writer. I just couldn't get into it and found it really lackluster but wanted to see how it ended.

A bad show that you kept watching because you were horny

I actually never finished it and still have to - but 100% Love in the Air. There's really....nothing but sex in it so. Yeah.

Again probably Love Mechanics b/c I enjoyed it - but WOOF that friend group is hard to fucking watch. Beware. Not many of them are actually likeable but VeeMark is truly *chefs kiss* amazing to watch. The whole messy cheating web of love interests is also very fun (not for them, but for us).

The character that ruined a show the most

I'll do you one better and choose two characters that are also a couple: ZonSaifah in Why R U? Let's be honest, it should've been the FighterTutor show.

Most awful character that you hated

I cannot, in good conscience, forgive Thua for outing Akk and Aye in The Eclipse. Any character who has ever publicly outed someone is on my shit list. But Thua - man, fuck you. I'm of the opinion they should have punched him and Kan should have left him.

Most awful character that you loved

Out of FINISHED shows (bc we know my answer would me alllll the mofos in Only Friends otherwise), I gotta go with Vegas (KinnPorsche). My man is a sadist. But he got that Trauma that makes his character so scrumptious.

A character that wasn't awful but that you just don't like

Nubsib from The Lovely Writer. He's not awful but he really does give me the fucking heebie jeebies.

A hero that should have been a villain

I agree that Palm from NLMG would have been a great villain. Or even Nueng. He had the chance to go so dark during his fight with his uncle but no, he had to take the stupid moral high ground. Pfft.

Haha yikes gotta go with Enchante again. Really had high hopes for it and was watching it during its run and got so excited each week for it - but the story line got too dragged out and Akk ended up being a manipulative POS so, it was a huge let down.

The Worst Show of Them All Because

Based on all the ratings I've given in my excel sheet, the lowest rating I have (that I've finished) is for Enchante. Sorry ya'll. I just cannot deal with that ending.

i know mike has left BL and is now part of a cabin crew (i came to know this from his IGs) but he put up a story calling her 'khun mae' so im kinda confused. doesn't mae mean mom? or has it kinda become godji's name so he called her that and they're actually together?

hi! although there were a lot of rumors for a long time, I personallh believe they never dated but they were just very close friends (and still seem to be as they posted pics together a couple months ago!) but there really was an era where these two were always seen together & many people (including me) shipped them. I believe they stopped being as close around the time that miketoptap fought & ended their ship, and godji was accused of stirring the pot between them (bc you always gotta blame the woman am I right 😒)

as for why mike called godji "khun mae", that's simply how everyone calls her at gmmtv! I believe it started with offgun since godji was always very close to gun specifically, and then it spread to the rest of the company. I also have noticed a pattern of trans women being called "mother" or "big sis" as a replacement for their actual nickname in thailand so there is a huge cultural part in that as well!

I'm so happy for mike to be following his new dream but ngl I'm heartbroken over him not acting anymore, especially when he'd kinda teased a return to gmmtv last year 🥲

Ai and Ni sharing one shower, one braincell, and one heart

So, I walked into Ai Long Nhai wanting to enjoy a BL series, but I just found out it's a prequel to Tonhon Chonlatee - with a little alterations here and there. I have a few questions that need to be aired to the worldwide web.

* TC's Ni will be called as Ni, and ALN's Nhai will be referred to as Nhai.

* TC's Ai will be called as Ai, and ALN's Ai will be referred to as Aiyaret for this post.

Was Ai the seme in the relationship, or Ni? I poorly remember thinking Ni was the seme in the relationship in the TC timeline.

Did TC ever discuss what position in the bedroom Ai and Ni felt more comfortable as? If so, are Aiyaret and Nhai going to keep that continuity? It would be refreshing to see Nhai, with a smaller frame than Aiyaret, being a top, vers, or vers top.

I did notice in the second episode we got this answered, but Aiyaret and Nhai weren't sober nor in a relationship yet. Also, Nhai is figuring experiencing his first mlm romantic and sexual relationship, and stated he want to discover himself during this trial period.

How different is Aiyaret and Nhai's story going to be to Ai and Ni - from TC or from the novel?

I know it is the bare minimum, but I am loving the communication and boundaries we are getting from the characters so far. I feel like some might nitpick the communication we got so far, and with some reason, but I think it deserves a little pat on the back.

I wonder how much Tonhon Chonlatee lore we are going to get into. Are we going to have Pang in Ai Long Nhai? Is Chonlatee and Tonhon going to pursue each other, or are we going to see Chonlatee crushing on Tonhon?

I am enjoying the chemistry and character tropes.
