Why calling 2012 RenetAngelo "pedophilia" is problematic

Was I inactive for 2 years here and come back with a rant?

Yes but I NEED to get this off my chest because it really starts to trigger me and I can't stand it anymore.

2012 RenetAngelo is NOT a Pedophilia Relationship and calling it such is an issue.

People call it ""pedophilia"" because on paper Mikey is older than Renet but the reality is far far more complex.

Here's why:

Time Traveling is complex

Like in all media, Time Traveling in TMNT 2012 is insanely complex. While Mikey would be 15 years in his Time Era, if he would travel from his current time to the future…. he's still 15 years. In Season 4 the Turtles travelled 6 months… they're still 15 years even though they hypothetically would be 14,6years.

In Season 4 they're canonically still 15 years. Same for Renet, she's 15-17 years in her Time era but stays 15-17 years even when she's literally billion years in the past.

Even if both are adults...Mikey always would be at least 100 years older.

(Funny how nobody would say anything if Adult Renet would meet Adult Mikey)

(People love adult 1000year old Werewolf dating a 20year old but adult Turtle having an adult future wife would be problematic?)

Other point against the "pedophilia" thing:

2012 Renet is a mess:

Renet in the 2012 version has one of (if not the) least amount of canon information of all TMNT 2012 characters. We've literally nothing about her. No Age, no Living Place, No Backstory…we don't even know why tf she has a Dagger. Only things we know are that she's from the future, an apprentice and probably left-handed (what's really just a detail notice) In previous version it's possible for Time-Lords to be from the past but brought to another dimension or the future…why wouldn't it be possible with 2012 Renet? Example from the Mirage(or IDW?): Lord Gnostis is from 512 BC while Lord Cekini Garvan is from 2113 AD, both living in the 79th Dimension of Null-Time. 2012 Renet could be born in the same Time Era as the Turtles but brought to the future, again, we've no information about this. Speaking of Null-Time. Every previous Renet version, she always was from a different Dimension. And since again, we've no information, 2012 Renet could be similar to Bishop where she can jump between Dimensions where the main Place for the Dimensions Earth (or something) Time-Lords is the Future. The Null-Dimension has no Time. 2012 Renet gives us Freedom to make her however we want her until we get actually information. There is weird sentences of Renet saying she needed 6-months to find the Turtles, what could hint that Renet is not always in the Earth Dimension or on Earth but the 2012 Time-line is so messed up it just could be a script error.

Being from the future doesn't need to mean born in the future.

Why is it problematic to call this ship a "Pedophilia Relationship"

1, Pedophilia Relationship are a form of Abusive Relationship! Calling RenetAngelo Abusive is just downrights terrible.

2. The word "pedophilia" & "pedophile" is misused way way too often nowadays and people don't take it seriously anymore.

I see way to people call a relationship between a 15 year old and a 16-17 year old "pedo", even when these two grew up together and went to the same school and such.

Given not only pedophilia the wrong meaning but also giving minors more insecurity about relationships.

Further more, the word pedophile implies a mental illness (which is one (ICD per WHO)) which NEEDS medical attention since it's an impulsive disorder.

Calling Michelangelo, a minor, a Pedophile let's people think that relationship between minors in the same age group can be considered pedophilia...no.

"But people won't.." Welcome to the Internet, where people call you the people believe anything on it.

3. Regarding the mental disorder stuff:

Like said, Pedophilia is classified as an Disorder falling under ICD-10 which needs medical attention.

As standing in Wikipedia for popular usage however (best source I know):

" In popular usage, the word pedophilia is often applied to any sexual interest in children or the act of child sexual abuse, including any sexual interest in minors below the local age of consent or age of adulthood, regardless of their level of physical or mental development. "

Mikey, when he talks to Renet, is a minor.

Renet is a minor too.

A true Pedophilia relationship includes sexual harassment from an older minor or adult.

There was never any harassment.

And yes, flirting with a minor can count as sexual harassment.

4. Calling the ship pedophilia is downplaying abuse.

Victim of groomer and pedophiles are victims of abuse, of r*pe, of gaslighting, of blackmail and so much more.

Calling a harmless ship, a harmless cartoon-ship between two minors pedophilia, completely downplays the problematic with pedophilia.

It downplays the abuse by calling cartoon two minors cuddling pedophilia.

Why is this so important to me, why am I so triggered by this?

I've been a victim of a groomer.

It was an just a chat/WhatsApp relationship...with a guy who flet from the police and has every recording of us Video chatting.

Who knows where I live.

Who has everything from me.

There is no closer to this case.

This guy is still out there, with any video-chat he recorded of us.

Every picture I gave to him after he blackmailed me.

Having anything that happened, every anxiety attack related to it, every fear of what happens when he finds me and more compared to RenetAngelo feels disheartening.

It's already hard enough to find people where don't downplay this situation.

Each Time I read when somebody calls this ship "Pedophilia" something in me breaks.

Every pain I had, every fear I have compared to something so harmless.

All because people wanna make problems when there are none.

Because they don't like a ship.

The TMNT Fandom needs to stop to make everything a problem.

Introducing Lita May!

I’d originally introduced Lita to my patreons, but Ive now changed a lot of her backstory (and design), because I was struck by inspiration at like three in the morning, (and was getting fomo from all the other absolutely adorable turtle babies I’ve been seeing)

So we all know Donnie created a mech body for Raph thanks to concept art, but in this AU, I feel like Donnie would be juuuuust morally questionable enough to think creating backup clones first would be a good idea. He wasn’t expecting the small bits of Krang tech he had to incorporate to have such a huge impact, tbh he wasn’t even really expecting anything at all—which is also why he used his own DNA for the trial run, and…since Donnie wasn’t expecting a success, he was pretty shocked at the final result.

Donnie was also only able to observe the first month and a half of “incubation” (tube not egg), but was, unfortunately stuck at another resistance base for so long, when he returned, Lita May had grown a substantial amount and was ready to be removed from her tube (he was back for like two days before she started opening her eyes and reacting to stimulus). She took three months total to grow.

Raph and Leo kinda don’t really know how to react to her. Leo immediately clocks the Krang characteristics and is pretty furious. Raph is just confused, but when Donnie fills them in on the origin of Lita’s birth, Raph’s not too happy either. Neither one takes it out on Lita. Donnie does get a pretty severe talking to. Mikey, Timothy and Cass are so excited, and April is beyond shocked to be named the godmother. The family keeps Lita a secret, but it’s evident that she’s got some Krang in her, and they all know that the other members of the resistance might try to hurt her, and ask Renet to take her. Casey loses his playmate, but he does get to see her every few months.

She’s kept in the dark about her family’s future, and is pretty mad at Renet for not warning her of her anything, and she eventually gets sick of the secrets.

What about Leo?

Every other turtle has one or multiple love interests. Let me say that again.

Some have multiple love interests

Donnie has April. While this is a bit of a love triangle with Casey, and they never really defined whether April likes him or not, she's definitely his love interest

Moving on to Raph, my guy has Mona Lisa, obviously. They're the OTP of the 2012 fandom, the diamonds of the season, to put it that way. Mona and Raph are very much in love whenever they see each other.

Then there's Mikey. He is the ladies man of 2012. First he has Renet, who he falls in love with right after he claims he'd never fall in love with a girl. (Uhuh, sure buddy)

And then he also has Shinigami, who he definitely made heart eyes at, the first time he saw her.

So all of them have reasonably successful love lives, and interesting love interest that are worth considering. What does Leo have?

His sister

Karai and Leo could've been good, but now that they made them siblings? Nah.

They could've been good, had they made clear they're not biologically related

They could've been good, had the turtles not called her sister

They could've been good, had they clarified ANYTHING.

There is no single plot line, it's like two plot lines running through eachother. Either Karai is Splinters daughter and she's their sister, or Karai is Shredders daughter and Leo's love interest. Sometimes it can't be both.

Leo definitely deserved a better love interest. The hero/villain trope is cute, the brother/sister trope not so much.

I say Leo is for the fandom. Someone give him a good love interest.

Ok- So no doubt that Leo lectures for 3.5 business days about Donnie and his irresponsibleness in messing with Krang DNA, but I feel like the minute he thinks no one is watching his soft side is coming out for that baby.

Oh he’s definitely an over protective uncle. Probably even more-so with Lita, than he is with Casey, because at least he has a hand in making sure Casey has the knowledge he needs to survive. With Mayday, he’s kinda forced to give up the reigns in her training. But he loves her, even if he seems a little stiff and distant. Though, later down the line….Lita is a little resentful towards Leo and Mikey that they let things get so out of hand—even if logically she knows they couldn’t have foreseen things ending the way they did.

I think one of the main reasons Raph x Mona Lisa in TMNT 2012 were so well received by fans is because they were never the main focus of the plot.

Donnie’s crush on April was a well known part of his character and motivation especially in the earlier seasons. Leo’s feelings for Karai connects to the drama with the Foot Clan and the war against Shredder (and the Splinter thing but that’s another can of worms I’m not opening rn). Often there were episodes where these pairings were the focus that drove the plot along.

Raph and Mona Lisa were more of a background decor, not the main focus of episode plots, maybe their relationship and dynamic with one another will help move some scenes/conflicts along (EX: the Dregg betrayal and escaping the ice planet), but overall they weren’t the main driving focus for the series as a whole unlike the others. They were just a fun cute couple we got to see be a fun cute couple while all the craziness happened around them.

As much as I would’ve loved more Raph x Mona Lisa focus in the 2012 series, especially with giving them more story and development in their relationship, I also think that if the writers did give them more focus, I’m scared fans would’ve thought they were over staying their welcome. It’s a weird tear between “we got just enough” but also “not enough of them” at the same time in regards to Raph x Mona Lisa.

I don't know if I'm super satisfied with Y'gthba's "hair" / mane (Which I mainly included as a means of depicting her as a Chinese Dragon since I wanted her to have a form that more properly represented Lady Rainicorn-), but I'll workshop it later- Lmao

I've always had this intention for Raph and April's relationship to not last forever, with Raph not feeling very romantically invested in April after a while but still valuing her in his life-! I personally always saw April being kind of heartbroken for a while, since she really enjoyed her relationship with Raph, but ultimately agreeing with the romantic spark not being there anymore and it being for the best that they're just friends ! I really like using them as good representation for healthy exes in this Crossover (Not to mention Y'gthba and April being really cool with each other / not feeling threatened by each other in the slightest, reflecting Y'gthba's trust in Raph and security in their relationship-) ! 😌✨

I also had to do some Karai content because I love her and miss drawing her already- 😔🫶 || I self indulged a bit with Karai and Raph in this doodle collection, since I so desperately wanted those two to have a very vulnerable catalyst for their improved relationship as siblings,,

This is also the first time I've drawn Renet in this Crossover, and I think her being Prismo makes the most sense and is a really fun concept for her within this universe ! ✨
