The Princess of Formula 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The paddock was buzzing with its usual pre-race energy, and while everyone was used to seeing drivers, engineers, and media rushing around, today there was an extra special guest who caught everyone’s eye—Fernando's three-year-old daughter, Yn. She toddled alongside her father, holding his hand tightly, her eyes wide with wonder at all the noise and colors. She was dressed in a mini Aston Martin team shirt, a green cap, and tiny sneakers that made her look absolutely adorable.
Fernando walked confidently with Yn, making his way toward the Aston Martin garage. As he approached, a couple of drivers immediately spotted the little girl and couldn't help but gravitate towards her.
“Hey there, Yn!” Lando exclaimed, squatting down to her level with a huge grin on his face. He reached out a hand, and Yn, curious and already warming up to the friendly face, placed her tiny hand in his.
“Hola, Lando!” Fernando chuckled, ruffling Yn’s hair. “I didn’t expect her to be the center of attention so quickly.”
Lando’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “Oh, come on, Fernando. She’s much cuter than you! Mind if I borrow her for a bit?”
Fernando raised an eyebrow. “As long as you give her back.”
Lando scooped Yn up and spun her around, eliciting a squeal of delight from the little girl. “Let’s go find something fun to do, yeah?” he said, bouncing her playfully in his arms.
Carlos wandered over, curious about what the commotion was about. “What’s going on?” he asked, noticing Yn giggling in Lando’s arms.
“She’s playing with Lando now,” Fernando said, shaking his head with a fond smile. “He just took her.”
Carlos chuckled and approached Yn, switching to Spanish. “Hola, pequeñita. ¿Te estás divirtiendo?”
Yn looked at him with wide eyes, understanding her father's language better. “Sí!” she replied eagerly.
“We’re going to play dolls,” Lando said, holding up a small stuffed bear he had found in the McLaren hospitality area. “Well, Yn is, and I’ll just be doing whatever she tells me to do.”
“Dolls, eh?” Carlos grinned. “Lando, do you even know what she’s saying? She might just order you to give her all your snacks.” He winked at Yn. “¿Quieres que le quite las galletas a Lando para ti?”
Yn giggled and nodded. “Sí, quiero!”
Lando feigned a look of shock. “Hey! No fair! I didn’t agree to this!” He glanced at Carlos. “Okay, fine, you’re on doll duty too, Señor Translator.”
Carlos sat down next to them, carefully listening to Yn’s instructions as she showed Lando how to make the bear dance. “She says the bear wants a snack, Lando,” Carlos translated with a teasing grin.
“Of course, he does,” Lando said, “Fine, we’ll go find some cookies.” Yn clapped her hands in delight as Carlos took her hand and led her toward the hospitality area.
Not far away, Charles was observing the scene with amusement. When Yn spotted him, her eyes lit up at the sight of a friendly face she recognized. “ChaCha!” she called out, reaching her little arms toward him.
“Bonjour, princesse,” Charles said warmly, swooping in to take her from Carlos’s arms. “Are you having fun with these silly boys?”
Yn giggled and nodded. “Ice cream?” she asked sweetly, batting her eyelashes.
“How can I say no to that face?” Charles laughed. “Let’s get you some ice cream.”
Moments later, they were sitting together, Charles feeding Yn small spoonfuls of vanilla ice cream while she giggled between bites. “Just like a princess,” Charles said, wiping a tiny spot of ice cream from her cheek with a napkin. “But don’t tell your papa how much I spoiled you, okay?”
Yn gave a serious nod as if making a grand promise. “Secret!”
Not long after, Lewis wandered by and saw Yn with Charles. “What’s all this, then?” he asked, flashing a smile. “Charlie, you’re spoiling her already?”
“I couldn’t resist,” Charles said with a shrug. “She’s too cute.”
Yn’s attention was already on Lewis, recognizing him from the many times her dad had spoken about him. “Lewie!” she cried out, reaching her arms toward him.
“Well, if the little princess requests,” Lewis said as he picked Yn up and settled her on his hip. “How about we go watch a movie? I’ve got ‘Coco’ ready on my iPad, and it’s in Spanish.” Yn's eyes widened with delight at the mention of a Disney movie.
Yn cuddled up against Lewis as he found a quiet spot in the Mercedes hospitality area. She rested her head on his shoulder while they watched “Coco,” with Lewis occasionally glancing down to make sure she was still enjoying it. Her little face lit up at the familiar songs, and she clapped her hands to the beat.
Across the paddock, Max was adjusting his Red Bull cap when he noticed Yn trotting around after the movie with Lewis, now searching for her dad. Max crouched down, holding his cap out toward her. “Hey, Yn, want to try on my cap?”
Yn nodded enthusiastically, and Max placed the oversized Red Bull cap on her head. It nearly swallowed her whole, and she laughed, trying to peer out from under the brim. “Too big!” she giggled.
“Yeah, it’s a bit big for you, isn’t it?” Max chuckled, flipping the brim up so she could see. “But you look pretty cool, I’d say.”
As Yn wandered around with the cap, Fernando was finally doing an interview, holding his daughter on his hip as she played with the brim of Max’s hat.
“And how do you balance being a driver and a dad, Fernando?” the reporter asked, nodding toward Yn.
Fernando glanced down at Yn, who was fiddling with the microphone cord. “It’s all about priorities,” he said with a smile. “Today, my priority is making sure she has a good time.”
Just then, George strolled by, clearly amused by the sight of Fernando multitasking with his daughter. Without a word, George reached over, scooped Yn right out of Fernando’s arms, and continued walking away, casually chatting with her as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
Fernando blinked, completely taken aback. “Did he just…take my daughter away?”
The reporter laughed. “It seems like George has a new fan.”
Fernando shook his head with a chuckle, watching as George carried Yn toward the Mercedes garage. George held Yn up, letting her "fly" like an airplane, which elicited more giggles from her.
As the day began to wind down, the paddock was slowly emptying, and Fernando started looking around for Yn, wondering where she had wandered off to this time. Just as he was about to ask someone, he saw Checo walking toward him, gently cradling a sleeping Yn in his arms. Her head rested on Checo's shoulder, her small fists curled around the fabric of his racing suit.
“I found her napping in the hospitality area,” Checo said softly, handing Yn over to Fernando. “Figured you’d want her back.”
Fernando took Yn into his arms with a grateful smile. “Thanks, Checo. She’s had quite a day.”
Checo grinned. “She’s been all over the paddock—think she’s the real star of the show.”
Fernando chuckled, looking down at his sleeping daughter. “You’re right, she stole the show today.” He kissed Yn’s forehead, feeling a sense of peace and happiness as he held her close.
As the sun began to set over the paddock, Fernando walked out with Yn in his arms, thankful to have his little girl back and ready to head home.

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis (Scared Stiff, Living It Up)—goofy weirdo yaoi
William Powell and Myrna Loy (The Thin Man films)—i know they will have been submitted already but What If They Haven't Been!!!! the screen couple so hot together that people assumed they were married in real life! they match each others snark and dry deliveries SO well, theyre so married i still keep them tucked away in my mind as The Bar of established couples for movies. its also THEIR season rn new years is THE season for the thin man so a vote for loy-powell is a vote for love
This is round 1 of a mini Christmas tournament. Each poll lasts for three days. If you'd like to send additional propaganda supporting your favorite hot couple, you can reblog this post with your propaganda added, send it to my asks, or tag me in it. To vote in all the polls, click here. Happy holidays!
[additional sexy propaganda under the cut]
No additional propaganda submitted for Lewis and Martin.
Loy and Powell:
William Powell and Myrna Loy from The Thin Man series. Glamorous and witty, with the banter of a will they or won't they couple combined with the mischievous affection of the happily married. And they're detectives!
Tumblr media
They're ridiculously in love with each other, genuinely enjoy spending time together, respect each other, and just look at them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's dapper! She's gorgeous! Asta is adorable! They're simply the best!
Nick & Nora Charles, my pre-Code LOVES. Wikipedia describes them in one line as a couple who enjoy “copious drinking and flirtatious banter,” and they’re right for that.
Tumblr media
Myrna Loy and William Powell, their delight in each other on screen makes me deliriously happy every time I watch them. I’ll even watch the later Thin Man movies, even if they aren’t great, just for those two flirting and smirking knowingly at each other. Watching them as Nick and Nora, you just know those characters really enjoy being with each other more than anyone else.
They had sizzling chemistry, and their real life friendship meant that they actually enjoyed being around each other, and it showed on screen.
Tumblr media
I know I'm probably not the only one suggesting them, but I HAVE to nominate my favorite on-screen duo: Myrna Loy and William Powell. The chemistry between them has rarely been equaled; they're like the fun, cool couple that's clearly in love without ever being obnoxious about it. I love all of their movies so much, but my favorites are the Thin Man Series, Libeled Lady, Love Crazy, and I Love You Again. Obviously, I'm not alone, seeing as they had 13 movies together. Also, them+Asta? True double income, no kids goals.
(I know other people will be saying this but One Must Be Sure). MYRNA LOY and WILLIAM POWELL. From The Thin Man (1934), After the Thin Man (1936), and all the other Thin Man movies etc. They're just so into each other in such an equitable way, they push each others buttons and tease each other while drinking like fishes and solving mysteries and it's REALLY HOT. They both always had a twinkle in their eyes and adorably wrinkled their noses at each other.
Tumblr media
Myrna Loy and William Powell, who are both life goals and wife goals simultaneously. The ultimate gender envy couple.

need an alonso scandal primer BAD
Oh Lord, I am tired after work so I will just give a very quick summary:
The Really Big Ones are Spygate 2007, when McLaren were found to have possession of stolen technical information from Ferrari. Fernando had his own mini-scandal within this scandal, when he deliberately held up Lewis during qualifying for the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix (for which the FIA penalised McLaren and basically told them to get their drivers in line). The next day Fernando attempted to threaten Ron Dennis by sending evidence confirming McLaren knew about the stolen Ferrari information. Which led to Ron Dennis running to the FIA President, Max Mosley, to tell him that he knew nothing about the emails, which led to the FIA re-investigating the whole saga, which led to McLaren getting a $100,000,000 fine, the biggest in sporting history.
Oh, 2007 F1 Season you will always be famous.
Also in the 2007 season, Marc Priestley wrote in his book that Fernando was going around giving his mechanics brown envelopes of cash, which is, how you say, a wee bit scandalous.
Then there was the 2008 Crashgate scandal, when Nelson Piquet Jr deliberatly crashed in order to ensure that Fernando won the race. Who knows if Fernando knew about it at the time, but it's yet another weird scandal he got caught up in.
Then in 2010, there was the Fernando Is Faster Than You incident (yes that video involves Christian Horner being an enormous hypocrite but that aside) in which Ferrari gave a team order for Felipe Massa to move aside for Fernando, even though team orders were illegal at the time. And it was in particularly bad taste given that this was at the Hungarian GP, the race where one year earlier, Felipe had suffered a serious head injury.
In 2012, at the American GP, Ferrari deliberately broke the seal on Felipe Massa's engine in order to give Fernando an advantage on the by moving him to the clean side of the track.
In 2013, Fernando was asked at the Hungarian Grand Prix (what is it with Fernando and Hungary) what he would like for his birthday, and he replied "someone else's car" (valid tbh) and the boss of Ferrari called him on his birthday to yell at him.
Jenson has said that when they were at McLaren, Fernando used to pretend there were problems with the car and retire if Jenson was ahead of him in a race.
And then, when it was announced that Fernando was going to Aston Martin, Otmar said he hadn't spoken to Fernando because he was on a boat with no signal. Literally later that day, Fernando posted a selfie of himself in Barcelona, making it extremely obvious that he was just ignoring Otmar's calls because he wanted to.
I'm absolutely certain there's other things I'm forgetting, but those are the ones that came immediately to mind. As you can tell, not all of it is directly Fernando's fault, but the man's just a magnet for scandal and drama. It says a lot that I said this was going to be a quick primer, and I spent the best part of an hour writing and researching eight paragraphs worth of stuff.

For the ask game!! ✈️🎲💌🔮
thank youuuu <3
✈️ if you could go to a race, which one? Spa for sure. Cool racing + it's still realistically close to where I live + something about the setting with the pine trees and the mist and the Ardennes is entrancing to me. Or Monza as a Ferrari fan (especially now Lewis is on the team).
🎲 what is your f1 unpopular opinion? The whole thing where some drivers get this "PR = fake" label slapped on them is so stupid to me. Especially annoyed about the aura Max gets as a "honest down to earth guy". They're ALL doing PR, it's part of their job, this is just a specific communication strategy. Just looking at those Heineken ads Max did that were inescapable for a while in this country, that was pure "guy next door appeal", it's the nr one marketing argument in the Netherlands bc we're all so obsessed with being normal and average and regular - it's no different from Charles and his ice cream ads, and it's just as much of a performance (and clearly it's working !) Does that mean it's all fake ? No but it IS strategic and curated. And it speaks of privilege - many drivers would never be able to get away with what he says and does.
I'm Dutch and I like to be blunt sometimes, but this is not something I can get away with in many settings, especially not at work. The people who I do see getting away with it without being penalized tend to be men, white, rich, etc. In many ways it's a way to assert your superior social status - you can say things that offend and hurt, you can afford not to care or think too deeply about how your words affect others, and nobody can do anything about it. Especially since if women or minorities point it out or retaliate in kind, they will be villified for it. I feel in f1 in general the more macho, agressive drivers are generally seen as more authentic and real because they stick closer to the archetype of what a lot of fans think an athlete/driver/winner should look like.
I read a really interesting article recently about the concept of "aggro-truth" and the rise in both sport entertainment and populist politics of a type of guy whose appeal lies in his ability to be "politically incorrect" - openly angry, macho, agressive, offensive/bigoted, and unapologetic about it - which people interpret as rebellious honesty and authenticity, and therefore positive and subversive, even though it is a performance rooted in classic toxic masculinity/ (white) privilege and traditional conceptions of power and who should "naturally" have it. You can see signs of this in F1 too - drivers who are less macho are often dismissed as fake (and too emotional, mentally weak etc) and non-white drivers are crucified whenever they show even a hint of agression (Yuki, clearly.) And I think it's clear Lewis' communication strategies have been affected by this too.
I mean in the end it's sports it's not that serious etc. But like. Culture is made here too. If anything I find it fascinating to think about (even though it's also often infuriating)
💌 do you watch any other racing series?
F1 academy when I have the time, I've tried a few others (FE, Extreme E, WEC) but tbh F1 already takes so much times these days I get a bit overdosed on racing honestly, and I just have too many other things to do/watch. I do try to watch Le Mans every year though it's so cool.
🔮 do you own any merch?
yeah - all of it secondhand, you can find great stuff on vinted. I have two Lewis Merc caps (one black, one light pink), a Charles shirt with the diamond white and red pattern he made for Monaco in 23, a Sebchal Ferrari shirt from 2020, and a bootleg Seb Aston Martin shirt. Also a half broken tiny Ferrari Seb toy car that I use as a fidget toy I found in a thrift store and love very much. And quite a few Lewis/Hilfliger shirts. I really want to get some of those mini helmets at some point too, they're really cute. Plus some +44 stuff but ough my money

What has been happening in the world of motorsports lately?
(it's very long again, so the roundup is under the cut)
Franco Colapinto becomes a new Williams driver for the last 9 races of the season, Logan Sargeant was dropped with immediate effect
apparently Franco found out on Monday only and he knows he won’t get the seat in 2025 because Carlos has already been confirmed
as a result, Oliver Goethe moves up from F3 to F2 immediately with MP Motorsport in Franco’s place and Noah Stromsted drove in his place in F3 for Campos in the last race of the season in Monza
also gentle (not so gentle) reminder that Roman Staněk was with Trident for the last race weekend in Monza and everything after is uncertain for him
the whole story is: he has two main sponsors, one of them is his own father who decided to stop supporting him, so he can no longer afford it, he got an offer for 2025 from DAMS, but they ask for € 4.7 mil
Roman got replaced by Christian Mansell for the rest of the season (he is not related to Nigel btw) in Trident
Zak O’Sullivan is in a similar situation, Monza was his last race because of funding issues despite being a part of Williams driving academy, he got replaced by Luke Browning from F3
And on top of that, there are rumours that Richard Vershoor is also unhappy in the team and looking for a way out
Also since Kevin the icon he is, got a race ban for Baku, Ollie will step up for him and Gabriele Mini from F3 will fill in for Ollie in Prema to create an all Italian lineup for Italian team
Leo Fornaroli is stepping up to F2 with Invicta Racing next year
Ferrari announced a new technical structure: Loic Serra (technical director chassis), Fabio Montecchi (chassis project engineering), Marco Adurno (vehicle performance), Diego Tondi (aero), Matteo Togninalli (track engineering) and Diego Ioverno (sporting director and head of chassis operations), Enrico Gualtieri (power unit division)
Safety car crashed in Parabolica during a high speed test before Monza but both driver and passenger are ok and there was also another safety car ready if they are needed during the race weekend (what is concerning is a message I saw somewhere about it potentially being a brake failure)
apparently drivers were not very happy with the changes in Monza track and discussed it in length in the WhatsApp group, their main issue was that these track modifications are not communicated with drivers beforehand
last week George did Pirelli testing for Mercedes and Liam Lawson for Red Bull and Ollie did a wet weather test for Ferrari
also did you know Ollie has a younger brother who will race in EURO F4 in Spielberg
Lenovo becomes F1’s global partner, so they will have naming rights for 2 races in 2025
Pato O’Ward will be driving in an FP1 session in Mexico for McLaren
Williams started their Komatsu-Williams Engineering Academy for young talents
Maya Weug joined 7th round of FRECA in Imola with KIC Motorsport
Newey joined Aston Martin, so expect them to have big psychological advantage (they had a press con to announce it, he spoke about wanting to work with either Lewis or Fernando, he spoke about British bias and how it was involved in Abu Dhabi 2021…, he will start working for them early in 2025, he will also become a shareholder in the team with more rights than other teams could offer him besides being a leader of technical division)
Lawrence will apparently pay him massive amount of money (rumour has it it is Eddie Jordan who is asking for a big pay check for himself and many teams said no to that), after Newey and de la Rosa and Honda, he is also looking to sign Max Verstappen (and there is a possibility to get him in the team, Lance could head to WEC instead) – next thing you know he will also sign Christian Horner and Checo Perez to have a full RBR
Nico Rosberg, Guenther Steiner (and somebody else I freaking forgot, maybe Ted Kravitz) spoke about neither Kimi nor George having their seat secure for 2026, because Toto Wolff is still eyeing any opportunity to sign Max Verstappen
The team also sold stakes in the team to HPS and Accel
All teams were in compliance of the cost cap rules for 2023, BUT Honda and Alpine were found of procedural breech (aka none of them spent more money on catering, but these two made a mistake sort of not submitting the paperwork on time or filled incorrectly…)
Ella Lloyd is the wildcard entry for F1 Academy’s race weekend in Singapore
Red Bull junior academy signed Christopher Feghali, Ernesto Rivera, Rocco Coronel and Jules Caranta
Not only is the situation messy in junior series, it is also kinda messy in FE (Nato stays with Nissan while Fenestraz is out, Wehrlein and da Costa stay with Porsche, Günther will drive for DS Penske…)
Rumouredly, Val received an offer from Audi for one year, he was asking for more – at least 1+1 deal, besides him Binotto has Bortoleto highest on his list (and Theo Pourchaire further down the list) with McLaren potentially letting him go from their junior program if Audi wants him
Zak Brown spoke about the papaya rules shit and said how they will probably back Lando now because he is in mathematical contention for the title and Oscar will help him however he can and whatnot
Fun fact: in rally Greece, Seb Ogier spoke shit about Thierry Neuville that the “championship leader is not that fast) and then he crashed and Thierry won
For the first time ever, 4 women finished inside top 10 in NASCAR
James Vowles would apparently like Ferrari to release Carlos early so he could join them for post season test in Abu Dhabi
Santander is officially out of Ferrari with Unicredit taking their place and instead, they will become the partner of F1
Hyundai is ending in WRC next year and they would rumouredly like to join WEC
Ferrari Challenge will be a supporting series for the Las Vegas F1 GP
According to Ted Kravitz, Liam Lawson could be replacing Daniel as soon as for this weekend (that goes along what James Vowles said about trying to sign Liam for the rest of the season but Red Bull not wanting to let him go since they might need him for at least 3 races this season)
Nico the professional shit-stirrer he is, claimed that he got an offer in his e-mail inbox to buy Alpine for 1 billion dollars
Another fun fact: Ferrari already collected more points than they did for the whole season last year
Red Bull is running their engines on lower modes due to reliability concerns (part of the reason why Max had the lowest speed of all in a speed trap during the Monza GP)
All front wings are under compliance with the technical rules as per FIA (clarification that apparently Red Bull and Ferrari asked for, especially taking McLaren and Mercedes into consideration)
There is a funky feud for racing number 12 going on behind the scenes with Doohan asking for it first publicly and Mercedes asking for it for Kimi even before “secretly”, so now both teams are waiting for the result
This was meant to go into one of the previous roundups but F1 is talking to the teams to see if after season rookie race would be possible for them, which could give opportunity especially to driver who won junior series but never got into the sport
McLaren signed a sponsorship deal with NTT Data for their F1 Academy team
Also rumours and gossip from my fave source: Red Bull hired Rob Wilson to help Checo Perez get his lost form back (he is basically an observer, watches you drive and then gives you a long list of stuff you need to improve to get faster)
Williams got Globant sponsorship deal thanks to signing Franco for the rest of the season
Due to sustainability concerns, F1 might combine Canada and Miami to be a double header
There are also rumours that Ferrari tried to sign GP as a race engineer for Lewis next year
Non-sport fun
Oscar posted from a cockpit of a plane with a funny caption and then deleted because he posted it on 11th September
Max, Lando and Nico flew together to Baku for some reason
Charles won the karting marathon with his friends for LC8 team, spoke at yacht conferences and predicted weather
Lewis was sat with Noah Lyles and Anna Wintour at US open which is honestly kinda iconic
Charles and Goerge met up with Domenicali at what might be Briatore’s yacht party???
I just found out Kimi Antonelli’s girlfriend is from Czechia thanks to my sister lol
Hamda Alqubaisi from F1 Academy apparently got engaged so congrats!!!! (I thought she is like 16 I am so sorry Hamda)
Apparently Fernando Alonso got a new AM Valkyrie car that immediately broke down while he was driving it in Monaco and he was unable to fix it (he also said that they don’t get discounts on the cars from the team)
oh and kinda sports related but it is completely out of question right now BUT there is talks about F1 coming to Brno with the new resurfaced track and possible new facilities as they return on the MotoGP calendar for 2025

has anyone asked you about favorite (underrated?) helmets yet? ive been drooling over lance's am helmets lately i feel like no one ever talks about them -fujispeedway
oh yes @fujispeedway we can 1000000% talk about underrated helmets!!!
I also absolutely LOVE Lance's Aston Martin helmets, the 2021-2023 designs are my personal favourites both for the all over British Racing Green and the big Aston Martin wings on either side. It's such a sleek design that's executed brilliantly. (Pics below are Lance's helmets from 2021, 2022 and 2023 - all a 10/10 for me).
Of the three the 2023 design is my favourite, but I love the creativity of the 2022 helmet in creating the Aston wings out of matte paint and neon lime accents. It's super clever!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have an unbelievably silly amount of helmets in my helmet tag so I just know I'm going to forget some (and it's almost after half past 11 at night for me so my brain will not be braining as much - I will probably end up doing a part 2 for this).
Gonna put this under a read more to avoid dash clogging.
Lewis Hamilton - 2020 pre-season testing
Tumblr media
Do I think Lewis was absolutely spot on in switching his helmet design to purple and black for the 2020 season? Yes. Do I miss what we could have had in this beautiful white and purple variant? Also yes. (Deep deep down, I do hope this is the route he goes for his first Ferrari helmet next year).
Purple just is Lewis' helmet colour to me, and the big splashes of white with hints of baby pink is just soooooooooo pretty. This helmet looked stunning with the silver W11 Mercedes livery and I think it would have looked gorgeous with the black livery too.
10/10 no notes.
Sebastian Vettel - Singapore 2017
Tumblr media
Seb's Singapore helmet designs literally. never. missed. Sadly I think his 2017 design gets forgotten about because of... well... the events of the race start. But to move on very swiftly, I think this design does not get talked about enough. The reflective detailing is really fun and looks just as gorgeous as all the sparkly helmets under the circuit floodlights, and it gets a bonus point for the yellow to red to pink shift matching perfectly with both the German flag on Seb's helmet and the 2017 Ferrari livery.
Again, 10/10 no notes.
Michael Schumacher - Belgium 2011
Tumblr media
A lot of F1 drivers do have very iconic helmet designs. But will they ever be Michael Schumacher wearing a helmet decorated with actual 21 carat gold levels of iconic? No.
(I do want to include a video about how this helmet was made bc it's just so mesmerising to watch.)
This design was created and ran in honour of Michael's 20th anniversary in F1, which he celebrated at Spa - the scene of his first ever F1 race and maiden victory.
And it's sexy as hell. 10/10.
Jenson Button - Great Britain 2014
Tumblr media
In honour of his father Johnathan, who traditionally always wore a pink button up shirt on race days when supporting Jenson and passed away at the start of 2014, Jenson ran his helmet design in a bright pink colourway for the British GP - which also featured a pink shirt wearing Papa Smurf (a frequently used nickname for Jenson's Dad).
I was super lucky to be at Silverstone for the race weekend in 2014, and you could always know when Jenson was on track because the super bright shade of pink was impossible to miss. And it also looked gorgeous with McLaren's chrome silver and black livery that year.
As a tribute, it's very beautiful. And a helmet I always remember fondly.
Zhou Guanyu - Abu Dhabi 2022
Tumblr media
I'm not kidding when I say that I think about this helmet design at least once a week. It's probably every two days at the very least.
It's stunning, it's gorgeous, it's beautiful. Guanyu always delivers on his helmets every single time.
again, 10/10 I want a mini version of this on my shelf.
Esteban Ocon - Great Britain 2022
Tumblr media
So, I have the heart of a marshmallow. I am incredibly mushy and sentimental, therefore anything slightly mushy and sentimental makes me go all gooey and weepy.
Esteban's helmet for Silverstone not only featured the names of every single employee at both the Alpine factory in Enstone and and the Renault Powertrains factory in Viry-Châtillon - but the top of the helmet also included the co-ordinates of both factories. Very mushy, very sentimental. It's just lovely.
The blue gradient is also very pretty. 10/10.
(gonna end this here as it's now ten to midnight and I'm struggling to think of many more BUT I will 100% make a part 2 for this if people want).
reverse unpopular opinions: send me a topic and I'll say something nice about it

"In early Claremont issues, Wolverine repeatedly refers to women, like Mariko, as “frails,” a hilariously misogynistic and demeaning term based on rhyming slang (frail frame rhymes with dame) popularized in the underworld circles of the 1940s and noir fiction. Where some heroes fly or shoot concussive beams from their eyes, Wolverine is superhumanly “masculine” and traffics in a very insistent and aggressive form of white male exceptionalism.
Claremont clearly fetishizes Asian cultures and the level of respect varies between stories. In this mini-series, both he and co-writer/artist Frank Miller are obviously fascinated with what they believe Japanese culture to be. Despite perhaps beginning from a point of admiration, Claremont and Miller aren’t particularly concerned with accuracy. The Japan of this series (and many future Marvel stories) is a largely stereotypical and tropey approximation of the country cobbled together from martial arts films and exploitative pulp novels."
Essayist Eric Sobel writes that Wolverine, “A hero armed with the privilege and invisibility whiteness affords…unlike the foreign characters he encounters, is able to easily move between different identities without placing his whiteness and the agency it bestows in any real jeopardy.”
(Eric Sobel, “The Whitest There Is at What I Do: Japanese Identity and the Unmarked Hero in Wolverine (1982).”)
"In “The Whitest There is At What I Do” scholar Eric Sobel takes a hard look at the stereotypes of Japanese culture and society that inform the first Wolverine mini-series and subsequently become embedded in Logan’s mythology."

"I often say I don’t care about Wolverine, but that’s not really true. There are Wolverines that I love. This includes the one named Laura, the James Howlett one who loves Hercules, and the ones in fanfiction and fanart who are various kinds of queer. Sometimes, I also love ones named Logan who appear in licensed comics, cartoons, and films. The Wolverines that I love challenge stereotypes related to masculinity and violence and the supposed inseparability of the two. These Wolverines struggle, heroically, against what a bad world wants them to be or else don’t give a fuck about stereotypes, because they’ve seen it all and know who they are.
Then there are Wolverines I don’t love. This includes the ones mired in white savior tropes and cultural appropriation and especially the ones who uncritically glorify violence, graphically murdering untold scores of people who are usually bad people but still, nonetheless, people. These Wolverines never change yet always demand forgiveness through their enduring popularity and the seemingly boundless acceptance of their less-murderous friends.
But despite knowing which Wolverines I love and don’t love, I frequently struggle to decide how I feel about specific stories starring Wolverine.
"I don’t know the answer to that. But I do know why I often say I don’t care about Wolverine. It’s because I care too much about Wolverine, and often wish I didn’t.
Ironically, I think Logan would understand this very well. Which is precisely why I care about him. And why I continue to hope he can do better, or at least try to try—for his friends, for me, and for himself."
"Part of that is the many writers he goes through. For some he’s a killer, when at his core a lot of fans and writers prefer to see Logan as a protector."

200 Films of 1952
Film number 199: The Stooge
Release date: Dec 31st, 1952
Studio: Paramount
Genre: comedy
Director: Norman Taurog
Producer: Hal B. Wallis
Actors: Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Polly Bergen, Marion Marshall
Plot Summary: Singer/comedian Bill struggles as a solo vaudevillian, but when his manager suggests adding a stooge named Ted to his act, they become a big hit. Ted is happy just to be a part of it all, but Bill’s growing ego refuses to give Ted any billing in the act. Bill’s wife and manager become increasingly horrified at his behavior.
My Rating (out of five stars): ***¼
The last Martin and Lewis film I saw was Sailor Beware, 189 films ago! (It was number 10 on my list.) I thought that was all I could take, given the fact that Jerry Lewis is an acquired taste for me. But I decided to watch one more film, because Martin and Lewis were simply everywhere in 1952. They were two of the biggest stars in the country- they had a television show, a radio show, and they released three films in just that year alone! Thankfully I liked The Stooge better than Sailor Beware- it portrayed the camaraderie and bond between the two more effectively and movingly. It made me understand why they were so famous and beloved. (some spoilers)
The Good:
The chemistry and affection between the two was palpable in this. It was hard not to fall in love with them as a team. Dean Martin isn’t your typical cold and annoyed “straight man” in the act. He shows such warmth toward Lewis, it makes me a little verklempt!
Dean Martin’s singing.
Both men are very natural on screen. They’re good actors with a kind of unaffected ease- to use the old phrase, “the camera loves them.”
The film especially highlighted why each of them just wasn’t as good alone as they were when they were together. Even the scenes they were in separately lacked the same sparkle. That was exactly the point of the movie, which made the fact that they later split up even sadder.
The final performance scene was nearly perfect. When Lewis snuggles into Martin, my heart melted, I’m not gonna lie.
This film had more of an actual plot than Sailor Beware- it wasn’t just a string of gags loosely tied together.
Aunt Bee! Frances Bavier played Lewis’ mom in this, eight years before her stint on The Andy Griffith Show.
I wanna ride on an old train! Travel scenes in old movies where characters are in compartments like mini hotel rooms always seems so cool to me. Plus, I love the sound of trains going over the tracks.
The Bad:
Some of the schtick Lewis did was pretty predictable. The scenes that were basically just set ups for his gags were probably my least favorite part of the film.
The first part was also too heavily weighted with these scenes. It felt like it got more balanced as things progressed.
Bill’s character was not fleshed out enough. It was hard to understand both him and his choices, and the film spent virtually no time explaining or examining it.
The first drunk scene with Bill just came out of nowhere. I don’t remember it ever even being mentioned that he liked to drink.
Bill’s wife Mary got a bit annoying after a while- purely because of the way her character was written, not because of the actress. I liked Polly Bergen, but her character basically had a case of Classical Hollywood Good Wife Syndrome. It was a somewhat lighter case, though, because she was going to leave Bill before his change of heart- she wasn’t just a “suffering but loyal” wife.
It maybe got a bit too maudlin at the very end.

Mini Reviews: From Scary to Festive
November always feels like an in-between period. You're not quite ready for Halloween to end, but the commercial world is steamrolling to Christmas. And I think that's reflective in the mini reviews for this month:
Great Balls of Fire: I still don't know how this movie was made. Jerry Lee Lewis deserves the Priscilla treatment, because there's no way you can watch the scenes with Dennis Quaid and Winona Ryder without wanting to vomit. Even if Ryder was older than the real life cousin/wife.
Swingers: A group of friends (Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn, Ron Livingston, and Patrick Van Horn) wander through single life during the brief period in the '90s when swing music was cool again. I never saw this movie before, and it was better than I thought it would be.
F9: Okay, the part with Helen Mirren stealing the necklace was funny.
The Invitation: So glad to see Missandei get to be a Final Girl. Even this was better written than the last season of Game of Thrones.
A Million Miles Away: The life of Jose Hernandez (Michael Pena) who worked hard and beat the odds to become an engineer and astronaut for NASA. If you haven't seen this yet, definitely watch it on Prime.
Rustin: Holy crap. We should have learned about Bayard Rustin (played by Colman Domingo) just as much as Martin Luther King in school! If this movie doesn't get any nominations during award season, I'll be pissed, though I'm sure Domingo will at least get nominated for The Color Purple.
Good Burger 2: No matter how silly this sequel is, I'm just so happy to see Kenan and Kel do stuff together again.
Leo: Adam Sandler seems to be on a roll with good movies lately. It's not perfect: some of the songs were ridiculous, the third act faltered, and why the hell did they draw the kindergartners like they were hyperactive fish? Still, the movie on the whole was cute enough for me to overlook all that.
Genie: Melissa McCarthy plays a genie that helps a guy (Paapa Essiedu) reconnect with his family. Is it corny and silly? Yes. But no cornier and sillier than the Hallmark Christmas movies we get, and this was cute enough for me to overlook that. And I couldn't help laughing at the Tom Cruise jokes.
