Day 17: Eyes Closed

Missingeyes is an oc I made cause I actually like the idea of a cat named after thier scars in warrior cats but I didn't want them to be pitied

She was originally named Blossomkit but get father noticed that she was born without eyes and gave her the name Missingkit. Despite her Father's neglect, Missingeyes went on to become a strong warrior, and while she can't really fight, she's an excellent hunter and guard for the kits

More HC’s about Hector the Cat:

As mentioned before, she is an old scraggly grey moggy with a missingeye, a bitten ear and an oddly bent tail. Her remaining eye is bright blue and despite her scruffiness she is very soft to the touch

Has a taste for gold, as mentioned in my fic about her, and so is in the habit of biting Jack’s rings and stealing shinies from people

Much like how Jack the Money is always stealing things from Sparrow, Hector the Cat is always taking shit from Barbossa. Usually his jewellery but on one memorable occasion managed to snatch his hat by the feathers

Absolutely hates Elizabeth and Marty but adores Pintel and Ragetti and nobody can figure out why. Elizabeth and Marty are personally aggrieved by this

Teague is a very big dog person so when he finds out Jack has a cat he openly mourns

Can swim if needed but gets really fucking grumpy if she does. Inexplicably seen on driftwood or rowboats a lot because of this, obviously completely dry

Has a neutral feeling towards Will but does like the pets he gives her. Not a fan of being held by him though. Too cold for her liking

Can and will scream down the whole ship if she can’t find Jack anywhere. Or if she’s hungry and late to be fed

So I may have an OC that was directly inspired by redux. I have two questions in regards for her, if you don’t mind?

I gave her the name Deadeye (formerly she was Slugfoot), but recently I noticed that might not work. She lost her eye in battle, she didn’t just lose eyesight in it. I’m wondering if Losteye, One-eye or even Missingeye would work better for her, or if I could just keep Deadeye.

Second question, she does get to be in a high position in ShadowClan eventually. I’ve always had it in my mind she’s an atheist. How would ShadowClan react if it ever came out their seer/deputy/leader was an atheist should it ever came out? Not that she’d tell them, but someone finding out and sharing the news is always a risk.

For the first question: Deadeye would imply the eye is still present, but damaged beyond repair. In her case, the eye is gone, so the alternatives you suggested would be a better idea. I personally like Losteye the best, if you need input on that!

Second question: The Clans in general think atheism is absolutely absurd and worth ridicule. ShadowClan in particular would be greatly offended in the bargain - especially if it was a seer that didn't believe in the very thing their rank is all about. A deputy or leader can kind of get away with it as long as they're good at their job, but an atheist seer would have the entire Clan demanding that they resign. Not only is it completely ridiculous that the spiritual rank is being tainted by a non-spiritual cat, but they're most certainly risking the wrath of StarClan or the Three by allowing this to happen. You have to get them out of their position as soon as possible, or the entire Clan is screwed.

could a cat get a name-change twice? say mistpelt injures her eye and it goes cloudy so she becomes cloudedeye or white-eye. then, later on in life, she loses her eye, could she then be renamed one-eye or missingeye?

Hello there, Ruddles! Sure, it could be done. I don’t know how necessary it would be, though--especially since, as writer, you know these things and can choose the most appropriate name to begin with. I also recommend considering what the significance of the name-change is for the character, because the first name-change acknowledges the cat’s ability to survive already--so what does the second one do? It may come across as redundant, so think it through and make sure the choices you’re making as a creator are doing something with the story you’re telling. Good luck.
