The new live action Lilo & Stitch now ends with Nani giving up custody of Lilo in order to go to college to pursue her “dream” of becoming a marine biologist. They even got rid of Ohana, the movie’s literal heart. The government separating an indigenous child from her only living relative is a horrific history and trauma yet all the magazines and reviews are trying to frame this new ending as a good thing because Nani still “visits often” as if it’s not a very brutal story that has separated people from their family, language, home and culture.

May 5 is the Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People. (Also known as Red Dress Day.)
Show your support and pass on your strength by wearing red on May 5, and raising awareness. And if you have never read the Reclaiming Power and Place report, you can do so here.
Additionally, while the day is typically centred in Turtle Island, let us also not forget our international cousins, especially in Palestine and Sudan.

The person who posted this is a TERF and is not Indigenous as far as I could tell so I am reposting it.
The remains of a second Indigenous woman murdered by a convicted serial killer have been found in a landfill in central Canada, authorities confirmed Monday, after another victim's remains were  identified earlier this month .
Marcedes Myran was one of the Indigenous women  slain three years ago by Jeremy Skibicki , who is serving multiple life sentences after being convicted of four murders last year. Skibicki met his victims in homeless shelters, in a case seen as a symbol of the dangers faced by Indigenous women in Canada, where they disproportionately fall victim to violence, termed a "genocide" by a national public inquiry in 2019. Testimony at Skibicki's trial said he raped, killed and dismembered Myran and another woman, Morgan Harris, in 2022.
Authorities believed their remains were dumped at the Prairie Green Landfill site, north of Winnipeg, the capital of the province of Manitoba. They had been searching the site for months.

Last month, Manitoba authorities announced the discovery of two bodies.
Morgan Harris's remains were identified on March 7. Federal police in Manitoba  on Monday confirmed  the other set of "human remains found in the Prairie Green Landfill search have been identified as those of Marcedes Myran of Long Plain First Nation," a statement said. The families of Harris and Myran had pushed authorities in Manitoba to search for the bodies.
The body of another of Skibicki's victims, Rebecca Contois, was found in a separate landfill and in a garbage bin, while the remains of a fourth unidentified victim in her 20s are still missing.
In December 2022, Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth  wrote an open letter  to Indigenous leaders, acknowledging the "unimaginable" pain surrounding the case. "The investigation involving the murders of Rebecca Contois, Marcedes Myran, Morgan Harris, and Buffalo Woman has been one of the most complex and important homicide investigations during my tenure," Smith wrote. "I have heard the calls from the families, the Indigenous leadership, and the community. I understand your calls; the pain and sorrow is unimaginable."
Indigenous women represent about one-fifth of all women killed in gender-related homicides in the country -- despite comprising just five percent of the female population. A similar crisis exists  in the U.S. , where Native American women  are disproportionately targeted  in murders, sexual assaults and other acts of violence, both on reservations and in nearby towns.
There were more than 5,700 reports of missing Native women and girls in 2016, according to the  anti-sexual assault organization RAINN , which cites statistics from the National Crime Information Center. The Bureau of Indian Affairs estimated more recently that roughly 4,200 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous people  remain unsolved .

I know I don’t have a large following. I know this post will get lost in the sea of other posts. I know I don’t come on here often, and when I do I try to keep my page free from death and other serious topics. Yet, I think this is imperative to say, especially since I myself am of indigenous descent. I ask all of you to join me in solidarity.
Cole Brings Plenty, actor, model, and most importantly activist was found dead. He was assaulted in a club in Lawrence, Kansas. He was killed and his braids; a symbol of his heritage, of his Lakota decent, and a sacred symbol across many an indigenous nation, were forcibly cut.
I beg of thee and I plead with thee, spread the word. Do your part, however big or little, to bring light to this situation. Whether it be by reblogging this post or others alike, or by going out and making a stand. Do it.
Shed light on the situation. This goes beyond the death of one man. It is about the abuse and the destruction of natives and their communities. Of the killing of many an innocent soul. Of the brutalization of many First Nations.
We have seen time and time again, many indigenous people die by similar means. We need to bring light on the deaths of any and all indigenous individuals dead, missing or at risk. It is an epidemic, an assault, and a silent cleansing of many a nation.
Whether it be the estimated 6,000 dead at the hands of Canadian residential schools, the murdered and missing indigenous women and children, or the killing of an actor and activist, you cannot deny the sheer abhorrence of this problem. The problem of many Native American people dying, going missing and being abused, at an alarming rate. At a level unprecedented and unparalleled, at a level of which should not be kept silent.
Cole Brings Plenty, actor, model, activist.
Look at him and spread awareness for him and for many others befallen by the same fate.
Tumblr media
Remember him. Remember all of the others. Let nobody else befall the same fate again.

why is no one talking about the fact that nex benedict is indigenous?
they are choctaw.
native women and two-spirits are at the highest risk of sexual assault and domestic violence of any group. natives as a whole are at the highest risk for suicide. natives are also tied with Black americans for risk of being killed, both by police and by others.
it's critical to note that more than 90% of violence done against natives is committed by non-natives. this is a colonial issue, it's a genocide issue, it's an anti-indigenous issue.
when it comes to indians, our intersectional identities are often erased in favor of more visible or mainstream marginalizations like sex and gender.
this same thing happened when ezra miller kidnapped an indigenous teen. it happened when a nurse assaulted a native coma patient and she became pregnant and gave birth in her hospital bed. our indigenous identity is barely mentioned, despite this being a multinational crisis.
please learn more about the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) movement here, here, and here
and please spread the word about this
don't let native people disappear in this conversation. nex's death is national news and they should be remembered for all that they are.

In case you need reminding today:
If you're a minority in the US and all you can do right now is survive? That in itself is resistance. Don't let them kill us off. There will be a time when we need to pick up the pieces of this and rebuild, and we need you there to help us do it. I NEED YOU THERE TO HELP US DO IT. I made these today because even when I'm at my lowest, the idea of refusing these fascists the pleasure of my death spurs me on. I wanted to share them. Keep going, it'll be my privilege to see you at the end of this!
If anyone would like a specific flag or identity represented that I haven't already done, let me know, and I will do my best!

CBC video: Stolen Children | Residential School Survivors Speak Out
Since their first arrival in the “new world” of North America, a number of religious entities began the project of converting Indigenous Peoples to Christianity. This undertaking grew in structure and purpose, especially between 1831 and 1969, when the governing officials of early Canada joined with Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, United, and Presbyterian churches to create and operate the residential school system. The last federally-run residential school, Gordon Indian residential School in Saskatchewan, closed in 1996. One common objective defined this period: the aggressive assimilation of Aboriginal peoples.

A reminder, if you're reblogging anything about Red Dress Day, to ensure you're not reblogging from terfs trying to push 2Spirit individuals out of a day that represents them too!
We stand with and remember our missing and murdered 2Spirit siblings. Terf rhetoric and ideology is COLONIZER BULLSHIT AND WE DONT RESPECT IT.
