Hello Implosion Enthusiasts! As we are nearing the EI sign-ups day of September 1st, we would like to mention some changes that are gonna take place during this year’s event! We have already made a post detailing this year’s schedule, which you can find here.
With the new year of Ecto-Implosion, come new and updated rules, which you can read in their entirety here:
[RULES]
They include major changes like:
⋆⭒˚.⋆ Idea Clearance ⋆⭒˚.⋆
When first signing up, Artists will be required to submit their ideas. This doesn’t mean you can’t change your mind later, but it helps mods verify that each artist’s goal meets the event’s standards and rules. Major changes must be verified by an Artist Mod.
⋆⭒˚.⋆ Claims submission requirements ⋆⭒˚.⋆
Artists must provide adequate material for writers to work off of. Therefore we are requiring approximately 35-50% completion or at least a clear, visual concept of the artwork (i.e. a completed lineart - not a sketch) at the time of claims. Music submissions should focus on writing out the vast majority of the melody/main progression in order to give writers the clearest idea of the final piece.
⋆⭒˚.⋆ Partner Check-Ins ⋆⭒˚.⋆
As stated in the previously posted schedule, this year we are implementing Partner Check-ins. What that entails is that we ask our participants to confirm that they are in contact with their partner. All post-claims check-ins will require a partner check-in, in addition to normal check-in procedures.
⋆⭒˚.⋆ OCs ⋆⭒˚.⋆
Content with heavy focus on OCs will not be permitted. Fandom OCs (Wes, Kyle, Flynn etc.) are allowed. OCs that fill a pre-established role (an Ancient, a classmate, etc.) are allowed as long as they are not the main focus of the work.
⋆⭒˚.⋆ AUs and Crossovers ⋆⭒˚.⋆
Both AUs and Crossovers are permitted, but must be verified by a mod first. DPxDC is the only pre-cleared crossover.
⋆⭒˚.⋆Starting Early ⋆⭒˚.⋆
Artists are allowed to start their work before the sign-ups, but we ask to either DM @half-deadmagicperson or @the-oaken-muse about your idea or at the very least be aware that your idea will have to go through verification when signing up!
⋆⭒˚.⋆ Schedule ⋆⭒˚.⋆
Just a reminder of all the different sign-up dates!
⭒ Artists sign-ups: Sept 1 - Sept 13
⭒ Authors sign-ups: Sept 1 - Sept 16
⭒ Betas and Pinch Hitters sign-ups: Sep 1 - Sep 16
⋆⭒˚.⋆ [Full Ecto-Implosion 2024 Schedule] ⋆⭒˚.⋆
You can read more into all these points, as well as other requirements in the Ecto-Implosion Rules. If there are any questions, don’t be scared to reach out to any of the mods or send us an ask on here!
We hope to see you all on September 1st! Stay Imploding!

SBBB 2025 rules:
No generative AI allowed in any form.
Minors are welcome, but will only be allowed to work on SFW projects.
Participants are required to have a Discord account, as the check-ins and creative teams collaboration will happen in the server dedicated to the event. They will also be asked to provide a second form of communication of their choice (e.g. tumblr, social media, email, etc.)
Progress check-ins as outlined in the event timeline are mandatory. This helps us all to ensure team communications are going smoothly, and that participants are on track to complete their works by the final deadlines.
If you are having trouble with a deadline, please let a mod know as soon as possible. The mod team can arrange something to accommodate reasonable requests for extensions.
Do not discuss, share or post your work on any social media until your assigned posting date.
If any participant wishes to contribute a form of art and/or content that does not fit the art criteria laid out in these rules (such as a podfic, fanvideo, gifset, photoset, etc.), please contact the mods to discuss what this will look like. These are more than welcome, and will be shared in the Big Bang pages along with the fics and their main companion art pieces.
For Writers:
Writers commit to publishing a new, original, SuperBat focused fic on their assigned posting date. (The work can be an existing WIP or idea, as long as it hasn’t been published anywhere before).
Works must meet the minimum word count of 20k.
Works can include any and all ratings and warnings as long as they are tagged accordingly.
Any continuity and/or alternative universe is welcome.
Side couples are allowed as long as SuperBat remains the focus of the work. Moresomes with SuperBat (such as Clark/Bruce/Lois/Selina, or Clark/Bruce/Hal) are also allowed, but only if treated as secondary/background plots.
You are allowed to bring in your own beta, request one or more betas to be assigned to your team, or opt out of having a beta completely.
Multi-chapter works are allowed, but all the chapters must be published simultaneously on the assigned day.
Writers will publish their fics on Ao3 to allow the SBBB team to add their fics to the event’s collection.
For Artists:
Traditional and digital mediums are welcome. Traditional art must be scanned or photographed in clear lighting, ideally with minor color correction so that the final image accurately represents or enhances what was drawn. The final art must be at a resolution of at least 300dpi.
The artwork must be polished and represent multiple days worth of work. If you create a single illustration, it must contain the following attributes:
multiple figures
colors
shading
backgrounds
full render or detailed line art
If you want to contribute multiple illustrations, each individual illustration does not need to meet all the criteria above, but the total amount of work should roughly be equivalent.
We may discuss with artists the possibility of working on multiple projects if the artist group is smaller than the writers group. In this case, the total amount of work an artist contributes (outlined above) would be spread equally across projects.
Artists can publish their works on platforms such as Tumblr, Bluesky, Pillowfort, etc. We ask that artists also upload their final work onto a hosting website (such as imgur) that will allow for embedding into the corresponding fics. This can be discussed with the Mod team at any time, and assistance given for anyone who doesn't have experience with setting this up.
For Beta Readers:
You and your writer will establish what kind of help or feedback they are looking for (grammar, pacing, etc.)
You will be expected to be available to give timely feedback to your writer(s) as requested.
The event will have a dedicated space where betas will be able to provide quick feedback to any writers (not just who they’re paired with) who request assistance on their fics, but participation outside of your agreed teams is not mandatory.
For Pinch Hitters:
You can elect to sign up as a pinch hitter for art and/or beta reading purposes.
In the unlikely scenario where a member of a team drops their role, pinch hitters will be asked to take over and work with the team.
The deadlines will remain the official ones, unless too critical. Mods will discuss each case with the pinch hitter to ensure that the workload and remaining time are balanced.
Want to know the timeline of the event? You can read it here!

There will be a 2025 DA Big Bang Google Calendar that you can add to your own calendar - link coming soon!
WORK REQUIREMENTS
Writers & Projects Start Anonymous: do not share your ideas publicly. You are not allowed to discuss your project outside of the SECRET writer-only chat in the discord. This is to make the artist pitch claims blind and fair.
Your Final Product: Writers commit to producing a completed, new fanfiction PRIMARILY for the Dragon Age Media of at minimum 25,000 words. This work must be completed and posted to the AO3 collection by October 31, 2025. Writers who fail to reach the minimum will not be included in the Bang Collection, nor advertised by the Bang. This is out of fairness to all writers undertaking this challenge.
Longfics can be anything you like, within our sparing content guidelines! They are not constrained by prompts, DNWs, etc. There is no maximum word count, no limit to the fandom(s) (in case of crossovers), and no restriction on max rating.
Written works must be new:
They cannot be rewrites of existing fanfictions, or compilations of existing fanfictions, or reposts of existing fanfictions, that have been posted on tumblr, AO3, FFN, Livejournal, Wordpress, or other platforms.
Written works must be primarily for the Dragon Age franchise, even for crossovers:
“Geralt of Rivia with Templar Abilities, but still in The Continent, and no Dragon Age characters appear” is probably skirting the line, but “Geralt of Rivia is sent into Thedas” or “Cullen Rutherford as a Witcher in an AU version of Thedas” are probably okay.
Written works must be at least 25,000 words, and complete, when posted:
Works must be uploaded to AO3
Works must be submitted to the 2025 Big Bang collection
Works must be completed (no new chapters or significant revisions to be added)
Writers agree to meeting minimum checkpoint progress, and clearly communicating progress (or lack thereof) to the moderators of the event. These are listed in the Timeline.
DELIVERABLES AND DUE DATES
Sign Ups: June 1-June 30
On the Google Form, open from June 1-June 30, Writers must provide:
▸ contact information ▸ a non-binding 1-5 sentence explanation of their fic idea ▸ an estimated length (25k+) ▸ an estimated Rating ▸ if you wish to be added to the secret writer discord channels
Soft Check-In: July 1-July 14
On the Google Form, open from July 1-July 14, Writers must provide a current, non-zero word count. Any non-zero word count received by July 14 will qualify you to submit a Pitch.
Writer Pitches: July 15-July 31
On the Google Form, open from July 15-July 31, writers will submit their project pitches for Artists to claim. The information will then be anonymized and posted to the DABB 2025 Pitch Collection for Artists to peruse and claim. The mod team will then finalize teams.
Cut-Off Check-In: July 14-August 8
This will be a Google Form. Even if the fic was requested by an artist, we will not match artists with a fic that has not met the minimum 7,500 words by August 8, 2025.
Team Collaboration: August 14-October 31
Upon matching, Writers and Artists will be connected over email. From there, Teams can decide what platform is best for their communication. Please keep in mind our privacy recommendation.
In the event that the event has more artists sign up than writers, all fics will enter a lottery for the chance to receive a second artist match (forming a Team of Three).
Writers must send the latest draft of their writing to their Artist partner(s). It can be any length (7500 words+), and in any condition, but the artist needs something to go off of for their part of the Bang. If an Artist does not receive a draft of the fic after 72 hours, the mods will investigate. If it is found that the Writer has not met target word counts, they will be disqualified from the event and banned from future participation.
Writers should be in regular, private contact with their Artist partner(s). Writers should provide as many written excerpts as the artist (reasonably) requests.
While your partnership is not necessarily anonymous, your work should not be shared/streamed publicly until the whole fic/art combo is posted on your reveal day!
Submissions: October 19-31
Writers must add their work to the AO3 Collection for the 2025 Dragon Age Big Bang when finished, AND, via a Google Form open October 19-31, ONE REPRESENTATIVE from each time must submit material for the Tumblr promo posts. Decide your team representative ahead of time! The full version AND a square crop of the art must be submitted by ONE REPRESENTATIVE OF YOUR TEAM for the final tumblr promotional post. Please read more about image submission, hosting, formatting, and cropping, here.

masterpost/faq/etc
**UPDATE: My fics on Ao3 are currently locked for registered users only. I have plenty of invites available, so let me know if you’re in need of one!**
I have been meaning to make one of these for probably a decade, but here we are. I'm Grace, I'm 28, and I'm a purveyor of weird fics and zero-note personal posts. I write exclusively for the Tolkienverse (with heavy emphasis on The Hobbit and heavier emphasis on Barduil) and for My Hero Academia (Erasermic, Shigaraki x reader, and probably other stuff if I stay in the fandom long enough). You can find me on Ao3 at BiSquared.
I’m also a mod over @bi-widower-dads and a member of @pixelcafe-network!
My askbox is always open! I'm basically always accepting prompts, but I'm bad about doing them with any consistency, so there's usually a backlog. That being said, when I do answer prompts, I answer them in the form of full one-shots (which for me are almost always 3k+), and if you're on Ao3 I'll gift them to you! I don't really do commissions, but I do have a Ko-fi.
My Fics
Shigaraki x reader masterlist
Tolkienverse:
seeking a friend - the Barduil zombie apocalypse AU you were probably not warned about. This is a series - the main fic, seeking a friend for the end of the world, is complete, and there's also a lot of bonus content, including an AU of the AU where there are no zombies. (280k+ words)
bring on your wrecking ball - the Bagginshield and Barduil band au nobody asked for. Come for the thought of Thorin singing lead in a country band, stay for the ridiculous bedtime stories, homemade song lyrics, and very slow burn. This is a series, involving the same events told from three different perspectives -- Thorin's, Bilbo's, and Bard's. (650k+ words and counting)
Kairos - a Barduil fic set in 1977, wherein Thranduil and his children move into an enormous house on a sprawling estate and Thranduil falls in love with the caretaker. This fic is a monster. I finished writing it in 2021, and it's 565k words long, so it'll be posting for a while. (243k+ words and counting)
soon you'll get better - a collection of thirty whump prompts featuring Bard and Thranduil, all written during February 2022. (90k+ words)
more than words can wield the matter - canon, post Battle of the Five Armies, featuring Bard receiving some rather inappropriate letters from a certain Elvenking. One-shot.
and many more...
My Hero Academia (Erasermic)
one headlight - Erasermic hanahaki AU series, featuring both Aizawa's and Mic's POVs! (58k+ words and counting)
the rooftop gang's guide to finding a family - Erasermic no quirks AU series, featuring Jewish Present Mic (check out @corndog-patrol's art for the inspiration), adoption of various children and pets, and very awkward first meetings. (79k+ words and counting)
As Above, So Below - Erasermic AU based on Junji Ito's Uzumaki. In progress but close to completion! (72k+ words and counting)
promise i'll be the cure - Erasermic sex pollen fic, wherein Aizawa gets nailed with sex pollen and Mic finally gets the chance to take care of him. Warning: No sex. One-shot.
and many more...
If you have any questions, feel free to hit up my askbox or send me a message! I'm always happy to chat.

RQBB 2024 Artist Sign-Ups Open
Tumblr media
Please read through the information carefully to understand what will be expected of you as a participant.
The sign-up link is at the end of the post, under the spoiler cut.
Schedule for 2024 (all deadlines at 23:00 BST/5pm CDT):
Artist Sign-up Closes: September 1st
Check-in 2 & Art Draft Deadline: September 29th
Final Fic & Art Due: October 13th
Posting: October 16th-27th
Confirmation e-mails for sign-ups will be sent out after sign-ups close; if you have not received a confirmation by September 3rd, please contact us at [email protected]. We ask that you check your email (including the spam folder!) and reply so we can confirm that your registered email address is correct and you still intend to participate.
If you wish to only sign-up as a pinch hitter for the event, please email us at [email protected] and let us know the fandoms and ratings you’d be comfortable to pinch hit for, as well as your Do Not Wants (if you would be comfortable with pinch hitting M and E rated fics, you confirm that you are over 18).
Participation Requirements:
You must choose whether to join the Big Bang as an artist or writer. You may not do both.
Artists will need somewhere to host their work, so that it can be embedded on AO3.
If you wish to create for M or E rated fics you must be aged over 18.
All participants must read and adhere to the Expected Conduct guidelines (see below).
Art Requirements: At least one fully finished piece of original artwork (traditional or digital colored/shaded drawing or painting, fanbinding, completed cross-stitch or knitting project, etc.) or full podfic. Compilations or arrangements of existing art, such as playlists or moodboards, should not be your primary piece for this challenge, though you are welcome to include them as a bonus (see below).
Please note, we do not accept AI-generated or AI-assisted works, either as main or extra pieces.
We hope that artists, like the writers, will take this opportunity to challenge themselves—whether by attempting an ambitious work in their primary medium, finding new means of creative expression, or sharing an extra tidbit inspired by their work on this project (e.g. sketches, a playlist, a comment about the fic and the process of creating for it, etc.).
If you have any questions about the suitability of your art, please contact the mods.
Art Draft Requirements: Your draft should show significant progress on your piece. For a digital drawing, for example, the minimum would be completed lineart, ready for coloring. For handcrafts, your project should be about halfway done.
As always, if you are unsure what qualifies when it comes to your medium or process, you can contact us!
Maximum Number of Fics per Artist: Initially, each artist will only be able to sign up for 1 fic (they may create as much art for this fic as they like).
Artists who would like to create for more than one fic can indicate this in their sign-up, and will be contacted during matching if this is necessary. You may also sign up as a pinch-hitter to be contacted in the event that another artist drops out.
Matching Process: The artist sign-up will include a list of the anonymised fic summaries. Each artist will select 2 fics which they would be interested in creating for, with additional preferences (favourite show/shows they do not follow, OTPs and NoTPs, Do Not Wants, etc.) indicated in the comment field. Mods will then match writers to artists, taking preferences into account as much as possible.
If fics are oversubscribed or if it is otherwise necessary for matching, they may be removed from the list of eligible fics before the end of artist sign-ups.
If you have an issue with your match, please let the mods know as soon as possible.
Do Not Wants: In this event, you will have an opportunity to Do Not Want (DNW) the types of content that you do not wish to work on. Similarly, if you’ve had conflicts with certain people in the past and do not want to risk matching to them, you can include this in your sign-up or draft submission, and we will avoid matching you with them (details of these will not be shared beyond the mod team).
The mods will always account for DNWs within reason; however, attempts to manipulate matches via DNWs or otherwise acting in bad faith will result in the rejection of your sign-up or draft. We are also not private detectives, and will thus not be fielding any requests such as “do not match me with anyone who has ever drawn/written XYZ.” Please keep that in mind when considering whether this event is right for you.
Discord: Writers, artists, and anyone else involved in the event are all welcome to join our Discord for RQ Big Bang chatter! Links will be included in participant confirmation emails; please do not share these links, as they are created to meet our participant numbers.
Expected Conduct:
By signing up for this event, you agree to do your best to meet the deadlines. If you might need a little more time, please email the mods to explain your situation before the deadline passes. Those who miss deadlines without contacting the mods beforehand may be dropped from the event without further contact.
In order to participate in this event, you must be willing to contact the mods directly in the event that you have a question, concern, or issue with your participation (as in the deadline example above). We are happy to help participants with anything that arises, but cannot accept “telephone”-style communiques on behalf of others.
Be in regular contact with your match—if you’re going to be offline for a significant length of time, let them know. Radio silence from your match in events of this kind can be very concerning. (If you are having trouble getting in touch with your match, please contact us!)
Please take care to credit your writer in your own final post.
Our Discord server has its own list of rules, which are listed within the server. If you decide to join the server, we require you to read and abide by those rules.
Be kind and courteous towards your match and fellow participants. This naturally means that all forms of bigotry and discrimination are prohibited, but even where those are not at play, you are expected to treat others with respect.
We, like Rusty Quill, have an “all headcanons are valid” policy. Harassment or mockery of those with different interpretations will not be tolerated. This does not mean you cannot discuss how you see the characters with others or that your artist/writer should not take it into account at their discretion, but insistence that any one interpretation must be adhered to is not allowed.
If you have concerns that a work or participant may be in violation of the rules, please bring it to the mods directly. Harassment of other participants (including but not limited to callout posts, name-calling, baiting, etc.), either publicly or in the Piles of Nonsense discord server, over their identities, fanworks, or headcanons will result in an instant default.
A full overview of the guidelines can be found on our Challenge Guidelines page. We also have an FAQ. Please note that you cannot open blog pages using the app; you will need to use a browser to view them.
Note: If surveymonkey rejects your sign-up, claiming you haven’t picked enough fics, please try again, avoiding any fic with a note saying it’s been temporarily removed from sign-up. Temporary fic removal is a normal part of our sign-up process, but unfortunately surveymonkey can be glitchy - we had an issue last year where it would not hide removed fics, and instead simply refused to let anyone choose them.
The artist sign-up form can be found here.
Thanks for reading, and we look forward to working with you!

These rules are also enforced when communicating with the mod team via tickets. In addition to these rules, the moderation team reserves the right to remove messages and users from the server that are detrimental to the discussion and community. Star Sending Event Info
Welcome to the Pokeask community’s first Star Sending Event. Basically, this is a Holiday Exchange (AKA, Secret Santa) with a little twist: It’s in-character! Write up a wishlist for your characters and in exchange receive another blog’s character’s wishlist - one which you either draw or write your character completing their gift as best they can.
This is not a full fledged event with a location your characters must attend, interact with others, etc. You only need to do three things: Write your character's wishlist, fill the sign-up form, and do your piece for who you get!
Continue reading for info on how to participate!
Important Links
Intro P.1 | Intro P.2 | Info Tag | Wishlist Template | Contact Info SIGNUP FORM TO PARTICIPATE
Continue reading for rules and other necessary info!
BASIC INFO
These are limited to Pokemon OC blogs or ask blogs!
One entry per PERSON.
The form to apply is found above, just make sure you read the full document first.
Do not expect to send or receive more than one gift (But you can choose to provide more than one should you be inspired)!
As part of your entry, you can submit multiple Wishlists for your characters, with one list each. This gives your Sender multiple options to choose from. More lists does not guarantee more gifts to receive.
Senders may do as much or as little as they like with their submission, as long as it meets the minimum requirements for the post.
Feel free to reply to your Sender’s submission as well, and use it to kickstart an interaction!
You MUST keep your Recipient a secret.
Do not share with anybody that is also participating in the event.
This event focuses around character interactions.
Politely, I ask you don’t join with the sole intent of getting free art or writing pieces. While I ask for effort in submissions, the main goal is to spark little interactions between the characters from different blogs!
TIMELINE
Assume all dates are done under the Eastern Standard Time Zone. We do not have exact times because our team is doing this within our availability and have life priorities outside of the event.
Our application period starts from now, and runs until the 3rd of November.
Wishlists will be distributed on the 4th or the 5th, depending on availability and any extra organisation needed.
You may start working on your submission as soon as you receive your Wishlist!
We will be checking in on submission progress on two separate WIP dates; the 25th of November and the 15th of December. This will be to make sure you’re on track with your submission.
A verbal update is sufficient for the first Checkup, but we expect something more substantial by the second Checkup.
If no update is received a backup entrant will be assigned to your Recipient. We will have one final Checkup on the 10th of January for unsubmitted posts.
As part of the above, PLEASE keep a line of communication open with us! We will be understanding if you find you cannot complete your gift and there is no judgement towards you should that occur. We want the event to be as fun as possible!
WISHLIST INFO
Wishlist Template | Example 1 | Example 2 | Example 3 | Example 4
Wishlist Due Date: November 3rd
Five Wishlist items per character, max.
As part of submitting your Wishlist, you MUST make sure to include some kind of visual reference for the characters that you are submitting lists for.
Wishlists may be posted publicly, and posting them is even encouraged! Tag them under #pokestarsending2023.
Wishlists are allowed to be farfetched, abstract, or even impossible to complete in-canon if it is in-character for your OCs to request such a thing.
If you’re unsure what this qualifies as, check the list examples or confirm with a mod!
In the case something your character would ask for is something you as the blog owner does not want to be completed for plot or story reasons, please leave a note written OOC stating so!
Lists can be written in-character, out-of-character, by a different character on the blog, or just a simple bullet pointed list.
As everything is completed in-character, do not expect the Sender to complete any wishes in a proper manner if it doesn’t seem fit for them!
SUBMISSION INFO
The period for posting for submissions will start on the 24th of December and ends on the 31st of January.
We ask that you send your submission to be checked over with us to make sure it meets all requirements. Once approved, you may post!
If you require more character info about your Recipient, you may ask us to ask for you while keeping you anonymous!
Remember: It is your character that is completing what is requested on the Wishlist.
Your character does not need to be able to fully complete a gift item from your Recipient’s list, if it isn’t realistic for them (i.e. their Wishlist asks for Technology and your character is a Wild Pokemon, which may be unrealistic or abstract). HOWEVER, there should still be effort put forth by your character in providing the gift.
Try to keep the tone positive and heartwarming, unless you receive permission from the character owners for your submission to take on a different tone.
Post by @-ing your Recipient, and include the tag #pokestarsending2023! We will be reblogging all submissions.
If you are unavailable to post your piece during the submission period, please let us know! We can post it for you on our blog.
Writing minimum: 600 of words minimum.
600 words is the minimum we ask of a writing submission to make sure enough is put into describing the gift and/or gift giving process. If you find yourself struggling to meet the minimum, please reach out to us with your WIP so we can can help review it with you.
In the case you plan to write the Recipient as part of your submission, we will inform you if the person receiving would prefer you not to write their character in your submission.
Instead, try focusing on other details: How would your character prepare the gift? What process do they take in doing so? To what lengths do they go? Also, make sure you describe the gift itself and how it’s delivered to its Recipient.
Art Minimum: Either a coloured full-body, or a half-body with a background (at least three props).
Must include the character of the Wishlist. Including your own character is encouraged.
Comic Minimum: Clean sketch, 3 panels.
Must include character of the Wishlist. Including your own character is encouraged.
The minimum requirements may change if we feel they need to be adjusted. We will announce any changes, and by the submissions drawing period, we will have finalised them.
Final Notes.
Questions and constructive feedback are always welcome and never stupid! We are happy to clarify anything. Be it through the messaging system, or ask. You can also contact us on discord for any further communication; please see the contact page on the Star Sending blog for more info!
If you are stumped in any way of participating, you are free to ask for help or feedback from the team!
To make sure you have read everything, I have included a little passcode requirement in the form. What was your first pokemon game? (Non-mainline games are valid)
Make sure to reference examples and templates to aid in your submission!
Thank you for your consideration in participating! I am just one person with some friends, hoping to run something nice for this community, and I sincerely hope I can do my best for you. Every effort to make this as great as can be is hugely and humbly cherished.

Big Bang anon here! I was just looking for some challenging event to participate this winter, and wanted to know your opinion because you have a lot of fandom experience! And YES I also noticed that a lot of Big Bang challenges currently are like "minimum word count is 5k words", and no shade to mods but that's not a challenge skdjdhdjl
Do you have a favorite fandom event type? Care to share your best fandom event experience?
Good morning nonny! Ahhh I see, okay I getcha!! There are quite a few longer word count fandom exchanges if you're into those, but the winter ones are already well in progress iirc!
One good place to check for events like this is fandom calendar on dreamwidth - people advertise their stuff on there regularly (no need to make a dw account to look at it either).
If you want a longer event, I have a few friends who do the three longer minimum word count exchanges and they have fun, so here they are;
- Fic in a Box (fiab): a fanwork exchange with a large minimum gifting requirement and several unique features - this one is complicated, so check out the comm link! Unfortunately this one is well and truly over now, but it's there for next year - schedule is around August to September!
- Five Figure Fandom Exchange (fffx or fandom 5k): a multifandom gift exchange for fanfic of 10,000+ words, and for comics of least 10 pages or at least 40 panels. Currently ongoing, but there are pinch hits in need of picking up! Deadline is January 18th, so if you can write a pinch hit fandom, you could try that!
- High Adrenaline (previously Heart Attack): two weeks to write 10k (or draw a 25-panel, 10-page comic) and one week to edit. Noms open in January!
Completing all three of these makes you eligible for Triple Crown, which is a prize raffle for all three of these 10k exchanges.
For the next few months, most people will be doing Yuletide which I've talked about a bit here before, but it has a 1000 word minimum so might be of less interest to you if you wanted a challenge. Pinch hits for yuletide are being posted here this year, but there aren't any available rn, and as yuletide is for rare fandoms, ymmv as to how possible this is for you anyway.
The next thing I will personally be participating in is Candy Hearts, which is a valentines day themed low word count (300 words) exchange, schedule usually starting with noms in December. This replaces chocolate box which used to run at the same time, and it's really fun!
Others I usually do regularly:
- Seasons of Drabbles: new to me but very fun, has a new round every season! For strict drabbles specifically, currently in its autumn round so there will be a winter one to come I imagine!
- Goreswap: an exchange for gore etc, with genre type tags to pick. Schedule starts with noms in January usually! Not one I've done, but I have friends who love it and do it every year.
- Phoenix Down Exchange: my own full Final Fantasy franchise exchange, set to start noms in Feb as last year
- Rarepair Exchange: as it sounds, for rarepairs! Check the comm for definition of minimum fics required to be eligible. Usually starts around April
- Rare Male Slash Exchange: as rarepair ex above, but for m/m ships only and again with specific minimum fic number eligibility. This is older than rpe, but as it tends to run on a similar schedule (noms in May last year) I've not done it for the last two years
- Relationshipping: for incest ships! The last round was July to August, but it conflicted with other fan stuff for me so I didn't do this for a bit as well. Run by some very good people
Some others I know about from my exchange crew participing but have never personally done: kids come first (underage themed), consent issues (dub/noncon themed), trauma exchange (as the name suggests), trick or treat (complicated, I think halloween theme?? Unsure), nonconathon (dub/noncon, but with very fun freeform tags to pick and nominate), and then there are usually a hell of a lot of flash exchanges around as well, which run on quick turnarounds - you could try joining the Exchanges After Dark discord server, which is an 18+ nsfw server for exchanges. It's very big and has a channel for every exchange, so the best thing to do is mute them all apart from what ur interested in ime! It also has a fandomcalendar rss feed channel which could be relevant if u wanna see what's coming up!
As for your second question, my favourite fandom event experience is probably Unconventional Fanworks Exchange, which is unfortunately didn't run last year and I'm not sure if it will again 😭😭 its an exchange for, well, unconventional fanwork mediums, and I've had so much fun challenging myself in the two rounds I've participated in! They had things like newspaper articles, in universe academic documents, blueprints, paper dolls, all sorts! I'm hoping someone might take it over tbh, if the mod can't run it again.
Also, this year I did Small Web September for the first time and had sooo much fun! It's for working on any smallweb projects you might have; personal sites, neocities, coding etc. and it had a really great vibe, plus it was super fun seeing everyone's smallweb projects! Very inspiring!!
This ended up very long, but as u can see I am very passionate about these things! I run my entire fannish calendar around exchanges mixed with event weeks and I find it very rewarding - I'm always happy to introduce anyone to exchanges and talk through how to participate etc. so anyone can ask me about this at any time!

Good Omens Song & Poetry Exchange Rules & Guidelines
[this post mirrors the Rules page for mobile users]
General Rules
Discord is required to participate. It will be used to distribute forms and communicate with participants, but you will not be required to be an active member.
Participants should remain civil on the Discord server throughout the event. Harassment or bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated and is grounds for removal from the server and event.
Discourse should also be avoided when possible– we’re all just here to have fun!
Requests and Match-ups
There are no formal restrictions on the song or poem you submit as a request, except that it be publicly available to read or listen to online. Please also note that anything you submit will be open to interpretation by your gifter, and they may create something you weren’t expecting!
Match-ups will be assigned by the mods and are final! There will be sections in the sign-up form to specify No-Gos as both a gifter and a giftee. Please use these sections to specify the things you would not be comfortable receiving as a request or gift, respectively. This will help us make satisfactory match-ups all around!
Match-ups should also remain anonymous. Don’t share your who your giftee is (or the request you received) where they might see it. It’s more fun to keep it a secret!
In the event that your availability changes and you won’t be able to make the schedule deadlines, please make sure to let the mods know. The sooner you do, the easier it will be for us to find a pinch-hitter to replace you!
Once match-ups are made, you may (anonymously!) contact your giftee to ask more about their request and the kind of gift they’re interested in receiving. You are also welcome to use the mods as go-betweens in this respect to ensure anonymity.
Creation and Check-in
Do not use AI generation or bots to create your gift. Full stop.
All works should be new, original, standalone pieces made specifically for this event. They should be about Good Omens and adhere to all provided No-Gos, with no exceptions.
This event is designed to be very open ended, but we ask that you try to stay true to the original vibe or themes of your assigned request, even if it’s just a single line or lyric you’ve based it off of!
And while there are limited restrictions on what you can create, we also ask that you put an appropriate amount of effort into creating your gift– it should be something you’d be happy to receive too!
There will be one check-in about half-way through the creation period. You will be asked to provide proof of progress (some form of sketch, draft, outline, etc.), and to describe how your assigned request inspired you.
Check-in and final submission forms should be filled out in a timely manner. Failure to do so without notifying mods of delays will result in participants being removed from the event and replaced with a pinch-hitter.
Final Submissions and Gift Delivery
All works should be completed by March 15th, 2024. All written works should be beta-read– don’t hesitate to reach out to the mods if you need help finding a beta!
At minimum, written works should be 1,000 words long (poems a cumulative 200-300 words), and art pieces should be fully lined and colored. Please consult the mods for guidelines on other mediums.
Gifters will be responsible for delivering their finished gift. This can be done on any platform, including direct or private messages, but it must be shared somewhere the giftee can view their gift.
There will be no assigned posting dates and will be left up to the gifter’s availability, but gifts must be delivered by March 25th, 2024. Please let the mods know if at any time you think you will not be able to meet this deadline!
If posting publicly, please mention the song or poem your work was inspired by, as well as the event it was created for.
As this event is an exchange, please understand that the gift you receive may not be what you were expecting! You will not be receiving a second one as replacement under any circumstances.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please send us an ask, or reach out to a mod in our Discord server!

[I FINALLY have a setting for Olivia's Dc Comics verse! I ended up having to make two because it would've confused me via writing (and it's why I haven't been able to 100% focus for threads of that world) but I am happy and content to figure things out to keep things a bit steadier on my end and of course my followers who roleplay in the DC Comics world.]
Olivia's main DC Comics verse tag won't change! This is the basis of her plot and how her character lives within the DC Comics realm. -Taking on a career as a jazz singer/club singer in a city close to Gotham (inspired strongly by New York and takes the same concept of her life as her jazz verse), Olivia worked out schedules, contracts and management that leads her living in Gotham. As Gotham is inspired/taken to being on the east coast (it's inspired by various locations such as New Jersey being one of them), it made sense for Olivia to move to Gotham to be closer to her family all in all. That's her main excuse aside from the money she can make moving to Gotham, regardless of the crime rates there. -Olivia is aware of the villains in the Gotham but most of the mainstream ones. Secondary or low ranked villains don't go by her radar in most interactions or character knowledge. She isn't aware of villains who might be villains to say Robin, Teen Titans, etc. Olivia doesn't personally know any villains or main characters of the Gotham world (or DC Comics world) unless brought up with interactions over the years. Thus most interactions in this world, unless plotted, are all new and she doesn't know any character from DC comics personally. -Olivia has visited and taken vacation time/work in Metropolis but did not care for the place. She has a neutral view of Superman (from seeing him on the news, newspaper, etc and not personally) because of it and isn't impressed by him in most interactions where he's mentioned. This is difference with Gotham heroes as she is fond of Batman (or at least respects what he stands for) but still isn't certain of him all in all. -As a note before I mention blogs: This isn't solid concepts as interactions are still very NEW unless stated otherwise and to see where things go but it gives my mutuals and writers here an idea of what my character knows in general due to interactions. This is also a note for myself so I can feel where Olivia is with interactions and etc. Anyone who doesn't want to be included can message me privately and I will remove you! -Blogs that Olivia is associated with when it comes to interactions go by for her blog are: @blckfckinmsk aka Black Mask who is her boss in all ways personal and professional so she is aware of the crime when it comes to the gangs and the territory that goes with it. @halfdent aka Two-Face, another mastermind when it comes to crime and strong reputation in the world of law and who she's only met a couple of time. @yieldingdreams aka Alice who is a secretary working for Wayne Enterprises and another muse who she has only known once or twice. Lastly for this verse is @heedingcalls aka Mad Mod, Mad Hatter, Music Meister, and several others depending on interactions. Mad Mod and Olivia are currently the only romantic ship I have for Olivia's main DC Comics verse thus sometimes that ship might get mentioned and all depends. Mad Mod is Olivia's longest ship and interaction I've had with the DC Comics verse when it comes to shipping thus it's why I'm certain he would end up being mentioned eventually because of that. One reason Mad Mod might be mentioned as he is Olivia's hired fashion designer for her photo shoots, modeling gigs, and event outfits, thus their relationship progressed from meeting through work into a romance. -All romantic ships in Olivia's DC Comic verse are separate even with the last note in mind! -Additionally all plots are of their own verse and interactions and do not all link together. Olivia working for another muse does not collide with her working with others, villains, etc unless plotted or stated otherwise.
Tumblr media
Olivia's SECONDARY Dc Comics verse is one I made specifically for @supraxstcllas and all of their DC Comic muses. It's set in the DC Comic's "Elseworlds" dimensions, as their Kirk/Batman is placed in that setting. That includes their Flash and others they may roleplay/write. In that detail, Flash is a dear friend of Olivia and she considers him dear to her platonically. -The tag will be placed under: The past is like another planet. ;; THE DC ELSEWORLDS VERSE for those interactions. -This verse is connected strongly more to Olivia's main verse/Gravity Falls verse, where she moves from Oregon to Gotham to get away from the craziness/paranormal of that area once and for all. It backfires on her when she ends up befriending superheroes, anti heroes, and villains. No mention of Olivia being a jazz singer or having a career in music is connected to this verse and she's a lot more casual about magical things that happen in this verse because of it. -Other interactions of blogs can happen in this verse but for now all of my DC Comic interactions go into the first verse unless stated otherwise.
[If your blog wasn't mentioned, I apologize, as currently I only mentioned recent interactions on this blog and that are currently active because of it.]
[More stuff might be added eventually if things change/progress but overall this is the basic setup for DC Comics interactions I have for now.]

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Preview (Steam Early Access)
Tumblr media
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Preview, a single-player survivor-like auto-shooter. Wield the full arsenal of Deep Rock Galactic, take on hordes of lethal aliens, mine riches, and unlock powerful upgrades. It's one dwarf against all of Planet Hoxxes!
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Preview Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 1.95GB Download size. - Steam achievements. - Full controller support. - Graphics settings - display, display mode, resolution, anti-aliasing, v-sync, max frame rate, gamma, and render scale slider. - Milestones act like the game's own in-game achievements and give rewards. (you can see the reward beforehand) - Four Dwarf types with the scout the only one unlocked initially. - The game plays like a Vampire Saviours wherein you don't control what and when you shoot your weapons, hitting a loot bug and mining happens automatically when you come into contact with them. - Each location in an area has five levels where getting into the pod takes you to the next level. - Each level has a bar and as you kill bugs it fills up and triggers events such as the elite bugs (needed to end the level and trigger the pod), events such as swarms and helpful pod drops with a level-up item in it. - Earn exp by picking up the fragments that drop from enemies and level up. - Each time you level up you get to choose one of three random upgrades (optional re-roll paying with collected gold) - Selecting the same gun in a level up levels guns level up and as you upgrade the gun the better it gets but also eventually you unlock the ability to add modifiers and perks to the weapon. - You have two weapons and a grenade type for a base load out. - Plays on an isometric view. - Very impressive stressful enemy count on screen. - Feels very polished, especially for performance. - The game is highly addictive as finishing and starting runs very quickly. - You keep collected gems/ore and it's used as currency to buy permanent state upgrades. - Unlock new weapons and items to have them possibly appear in future runs. - The final level of a location is a huge boss encounter. - When the pod is triggered (after you kill the elite/boss) you have 30 seconds to get in it or you are left behind. - Every character you unlock plays completely differently. - Mining helps you create your routes, tactics, and strangle points in a level. - You get random optional side missions for extra rewards. - In between location areas, you can spend red crystals and gold on upgrades in the shop. - Red candy heals you when collected. - You can see the ores and minerals clearly before mining them. - You have a mini-map that fills in as you play. - The game allows you to play how you want, for example, you could go in and just focus on leveling up a particular gun to unlock perks and buffs to it for later runs. - Artifacts are given from the supply pod that drops and are bigger item buffs like a chance to find gold when mining or knock enemies back etc. - Loot bugs can be mined for loot. - Has satisfying noises and sounds. - Three unique locations to unlock each with a handful of areas and stages. - Enviromental hazards. - Clear easy-to-read user interface and Hud. - You can pause the game. - The controls could not be simpler. - All level perks have a rarity level and show what they do. - When the boss or elite is spawned the bugs grow in strength and numbers as you let time pass. - You have a voice-over guy who helps but also gets progressively annoyed when you take too long. - Your character will do shout-outs randomly. - Every run is random. - Elemental attacks can be equipped, usually from mods on weapons and grenades you can do such elements as kinetic and lightning. - Any bug with a health bar above its head drops more eco fragments. - Different bug types like spitters, flying and even exploding ones. - You are always making progress whether it be collecting X amount of minerals levelling up a gun to 12 to enable mods in the future or just getting gold and valuable Intel. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Preview Cons: - No tutorials. - You cannot change any controller settings. - Slow starter as the default class and weapons/upgrades are not ideal and it keeps the slow pace. - No camera control which sometimes can get annoying. - A slight crack between two areas makes it unpassable despite clearly looking fine. - Very addictive and can cause a loss of productivity in other tasks in life and render you a roguelike zombie. - Only a small pool of enemy types until the later locations. - You get the same two or three bonus materials. - Doesnt have a hub area which is very poignant in the original game. - Trying to remember which material is for which upgrade. - All the locations are unlocked and their requirements are not clear. some rambling about the game put under a cut because it got a little long, aha.
replaying the original so i can get my picks of what to take from each game as my 'canon' and regardless of opinions on the originals writing / dialogue ( which is very 2000s and certainly regarding ash is inappropriate half the time ) i do think the remake fails when it comes to capturing the comedy of the original. part of the charm is l.eon thinking he's very funny and witty ( he's not ) - it's supposed to be a dumb american action movie that's why all these characters fit the tropes and stereotypes you would expect. i spoke briefly about how whilst i like s.addler in the remake, i think his og counterpart is just more interesting - they feel like two different characters instead of an improved one. characters like r.amón especially lose a lot of their flavour when all the comms scenes are removed. it's the one issue i have with all the remakes - they lack that campy charm by opting for serious 'realism'. l.eon still makes jokes but none of them land because he's so much more serious and whilst his jokes were bad in the og, i think him deflecting / coping with humour is an interesting trait.
i think operation j.avier suffers the worst from it though. they had the chance to add it in-game, even in just a cutscene, to finally give context and backstory and instead they changed it entirely to remove any mention of m.anuela ( even j.avier himself ), the virus ( though i understand many people new to the series due to the remakes won't know what t v.eronica is ), j.ack's infection and dismissal ( him working for s.addler and not w.esker is an odd change, but if they committed to it could have really worked - a disabled, disgruntled, isolated war veteran let down by the government is the perfect target for a cult ) but not to mention that the 'you can't save anyone' / 'this time it has to be different' makes far more sense when you consider m.anuela ( especially as l.eon could have no impact on saving m.arvin and by this point he already knows a.da is alive ) - especially if they canonized the 'bad' ending where she turns to ash ( as we never see / hear from her again, which is fine - personal take that not every one-time character has to return, even if i like them ). the parallel of a young innocent woman, infected, under l.eon's protection, would have worked much better than 'the government killed all these men for...reasons?' ( why were they killed? did s.immons have something to do with it, showing more of his corruption prior to six? were they infected with the virus they don't mention? as the series progresses this happens more and more, and l.eon himself aids in the coverups of rc etc etc, which could have added more context to the issues between him and j.ack but instead it just comes across for people who have are new that j.ack's blaming l.eon for...reasons? ). they could have sown the seeds of future events whilst bringing in the important things that get missed because it's in a railshooter side game and it's a missed opportunity! also i think if they did acknowledge the canon of m.anuela's survival that her and ash could have gotten on really well ) even if it's unlikely they'd meet.
ash definitely 'won' in terms of improvement ( though i never found her annoying, fandom just was outrageously sexist / harsh on her - whilst it's better now, her being relegated to the 'braincell haver' or the 'daughter / sister / niece' of l.eon ( and usually l.uis) when she's an adult woman not that much younger or the rampant over sexualisation of modders which is a plague upon every modding scene is still... not great. god forbid we treat women as more than accessories ) but i do wish they kept in a litte of her sharpness. it's been a long time since i've played the og so i'll have more thoughts but definitely the scene where she runs away / they get separated is a huge improvement. i've seen people say before the og ash was 'bitchy' but her shoving l.eon away always felt like panic - she's frightened! the remake definitely did a better job of showing it ( and the effects of the p.laga in general, although i do think they should have kept in the scene with l.eon and a.da, even if they changed it so he doesn't choke her, to show how it's effecting him too - especially as iirc he isn't given a dominant p.laga like ash is so he should be suffering far less control, although i suppose maybe that is shown in how he's rendered immobile repeatedly whereas she is controlled? who knows ). either way, the relationship between them two of them is vastly improved and though i wish we'd gotten to see more of her interactions with the rest of the cast ( though i do find her 'for l.uis' a nice touch - i'd like to explore their relationship but definitely the revelation that he's partly responsible because whilst l.eon knows, she doesn't ). it would have been nice to get a gauge on her relationship with her father, for her to talk about her experience being kidnapped and growing to trust l.eon ( especially as her security failed to protect her / were in on it and the subsequent distrust it would form in the government ).
tldr; there's a lot of things it improves on but equally as much it fails with ( that's what rp is for! ) but i'm glad after all these years ash has stopped being utterly ignored or despised by the majority of fandom.

Thank you so much for the rooting for us and the positive words!!! This has been such a wild ride for lifesteal fandom and it's really nice to see all the positivity :DDD I was absolutely not expecting us to make it this far, given our size vs the size of a lot of the fandoms we've been going against, but I'm crossing my fingers (and considering voter fraud...) for a lifesteal final and/or an Eclipse Federation win!!! Mods, you've been fantastic throughout this whole thing, thank you for running it and for everything else!!!
Wrt watching lifesteal:
Lifesteal s4 is the most recent completed season (s5 started a few months ago and is currently-in-progress) and the season that both of the trios in the bracket (3 heart trio & eclipse federation) came from!
Each season is basically completely independent of each other, aside from occasional references, and each takes place on a different world (so, more like empires/hermitcraft/traffic life seasons than dsmp 'seasons'); s3 and s4 have the largest fandoms, especially clownpierce/branzy s3 and eclipse federation s4.
@aroaceacacia has a playlist with Literally Every Lifesteal S4 video, which is how I personally got into the fandom for it; that said, while this is the most Complete way to get into lifesteal s4, it's quite long (50ish hours), and most lifesteal videos will typically explain the premise of the server, relevant characters or events, etc., in every video, so you can also jump around or start halfway through or generally speaking do whatever you want and you'll do fine. There's also the "choose a POV and watch start to finish from that POV" strategy, which also works!
HOWEVER, not only this, but I've actually created a couple propaganda playlists for this tournament specifically: one centered around 3 heart trio, and two centered around eclipse federation, for those intrigued by seeing them in the trio polls!
Here's the playlist for 3 heart trio, which has all the videos made by three heart trio during s4, plus one video of the finale. It's about 14 hours total, because Baconwaffles is very prolific, but the videos are on average only 10 minutes each, so they're fun to check out even if you don't have a ton of free time, and as mentioned you can always jump around and skip things. I'm thinking about also adding a couple videos for context on certain serverwide events but tbh it is also kind of fun to only know the things that come up in 3 heart trio POV! This one's got lots of silliness and shenanigans :D
Here's the short version of the playlist for Eclipse Federation, which includes only their official edited videos, starting with Zam's betrayal of Team Awesome and continuing through the finale. It's also got a few videos not by them that serve as backstory, context, or which affect some of the eclipse federation members but not all of them. It's the shortest of the three playlists (6 hours total), and with a fairly short average video length (15 minutes).
Here's the longer version of the playlist for Eclipse Federation, which includes a mix of their edited videos, my favorite VODs, and fan-edited clips of VODs. Because it includes VODs, it's got the most content and context, but it's also by far the longest of the three playlists (35 hours total) and has the longest average video length even when you include the one with Literally Every Video (about an hour, but there's a huge variation, since it's a mix of 15-minute videos and 3-hour VODs). There are cinematics in this one (wings of freedom + pits of hell)! Check them out!!
(You may notice that this is labeled the 'medium' playlist. The 'long' one is one for my personal use; it has 150+ hours of exclusively VODs and assumes you have pretty extensive context on lifesteal, so I'm not linking it here.)
I will also add, as a content warning for both of the eclipse federation playlists: the story of eclipse federation draws very heavily on themes of in-game suicidality, suicide, and grief; c!Subz and c!Vitalasy both kill themselves in very plot-relevant ways, c!Vitalasy's suicide is made fun of by other server members and seen as him "just doing it for attention", and c!Zam is frequently suicidal, consistently takes actions with a reckless disregard for his own life, and attempts (but does not complete) suicide. Vitalasy also has moments of being OOC upset over how things are going IC, which personally got to me at times. The three heart trio playlist has a lot more moments of lighthearted silliness, whereas eclipse federation tends more consistently angsty.
(Also, if you do end up wanting to see more lifesteal after watching s4, @aroaceacacia has a playlist for s3 too, plus Branzy has a one-hour video recapping his entire season 3 which is tbh a really good starting point!)
!!!!!!! LIFESTEAL IN THE SEMI FINALS LETS GO!!!!! I can't belive we've managed this LIFESTEAL 🔛🔝 GOOD LUCK IN THE NEXT ROUND I'M HOPING FOR A LIFESTEAL FINAL BUT WE'LL SEE!!
(Mods: thanks a lot for running this poll its been such a blast, looking forward to next round (but no pressure, take a break if you need to) hope you have a good day)
Good job to the lifestealers out there!! Mod Skater has decided that if one of them wins the bracket that she'll watch season 4 (thats the recent epic one, right?) of lifesteal! I'm rooting for you guys!!
And thank you for the kind words, this has been just a project that was for fun between me and Mod Artie. We never expected it to get this big! Hopefully the semifinals should be up Friday morning!

A Big Bang is an event that pairs artists and writers together to create content for a series, ship, or theme. Writers will complete a longer story and artists will complete at least one piece of artwork based off of their writer’s fic. The goal is to create new, complete works that will inspire and add to the fandom! This will result in an influx of new works for the HxH fandom to enjoy and, as an added bonus, it will encourage collaboration between fandom writers and artists.
Authors will sign up to write a fic, and after they know what they plan to write, submit a summary of their story. Artists will then be able to claim the fic they want based ONLY on the blind summary. From that point the writers will be given a deadline to finish their full stories and then the artists will be able to make their accompanying piece.
How will this work?
Signups open on January 14th, for both authors and artists.
Just like last year, we are implementing a Writer Waitlist to ensure that we don’t overwhelm our wonderful and talented artists! For the last few years, we’ve had more writers than artists sign up—which, while amazing, makes it difficult to assign artists for each fic.
The waitlist means we will be accepting an equal number of applications for writers and artists on a first-come, first-serve basis until January 28th. After this date, writers will be placed on a waitlist while artists continue to apply until signups close officially on March 31st.
Collaborations, you say?
Yep! As before, artists will have the option to collaborate with their author or keep it under wraps until the reveal. Collaborating just means that authors will be keeping their artists updated on their progress periodically, the final art will still be a surprise on reveal day!
Artists who choose not to collaborate will have their pairing kept secret until the reveal—surprises are fun!
When is reveal day?
The main reveal date for 2023 is July 1st, with a late posting date on July 15th.
For multi-chapter works: Only your first chapter must be posted on July 1st, but we do ask that your full fic be posted by December 31st.
Where is all of this happening?
Our main and only form of communication with participants will be via Discord, so you will need to make an account if you do not have one already. All important announcements and check-ins will be done through the Discord server. No pressure to participate excessively in the chat, but we’ve put a lot of effort into our server and we’d love to see you there!
Posting will take place on your hosting site of choice (AO3, ffnet, etc.) and should be linked on Tumblr or Twitter so that we can reblog and retweet your awesome stuff.
With everything happening on twitter, we may not be able to use it as we have in the past. It’ll be a learning curve, but we don’t want to discourage any twitter-users from participating regardless!
Phew! That was a lot... Keep all this info handy with our timeline and some useful links.

Hello Hobbit Friends!
How it is already the end of August??
The beginning of September is usually when we (the mods) start planning, discussing, updating rules, pre-writing posts, creating banners, etc. A lot goes on behind the scenes for this event, but we sincerely love being able to facilitate it. And we adore seeing all the creativity you guys demonstrate year after year. This is an older fandom, yet we actually see a steadily-increasing number of participants, which is incredible!
The truth is, though, with so many people taking part in this event, we’ve seen a corresponding upswing in the amount of effort it takes to bring it to fruition. We have three mods, which theoretically means we can split the burden evenly, but we all work full-time and have busy lives. Moderating a gift exchange during such a hectic time of year means that we, like the participants, have to work around other people’s wonky schedules and changing plans. And the longer the event has gone on, the more we find ourselves spending the entire month of December sending out frantic emails to check on progress, freaking out about last-minute dropouts, and—invariably—scrambling to fill requests ourselves in the wee hours to make sure that every single person receives something.
Back when we had fewer of these to do, it wasn’t as much of a problem! But last year we had 63 signups and ended up needing to create about 10 last-minute gifts. We were able to find a couple of absolute angels to pinch-hit for us, but two of our mods were still churning out 6 full-color illustrations on Christmas Eve. We've tried various methods throughout the years to mitigate it, but we've come to realize that it's simply part of moderating an event like this. And it's starting to become unsustainable.
As much as we love putting on the exchange, we haven’t been able to be fully present with our loved ones during the holiday season since 2017. It’s rewarding to bring it all together every year, but the stress has begun to overshadow the joy. We’d like to step away and not only take time for ourselves, but maybe give someone else the opportunity to breathe new life into the event. So regrettably, unless we find someone who is interested in taking the reins, there will not be a Happy Hobbit Holiday 2022.
To all the people who have participated in the exchange in years past, we’re so grateful to you for your hand work, your passion, your creativity, your feedback, and your continued interest in this event! We hope that you’ll continue to share your talents for years to come, and we’ll be awaiting your beautiful future work with Kudos and keysmashes!
To anyone who has ever done a pinch-hit for us, you have been the backbone of every single HHH exchange we’ve done for the last five years. We literally could not have accomplished it without you. You’ve saved our sanity and our wrists in equal measure, and there aren’t enough words to convey our gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
And finally, if anyone is interested in taking over moderation of the HHH Gift Exchange, feel free to reach out to @rutobuka2, @mithrilbikini, or @mcmanatea here on Tumblr, or email us at [email protected]. (Serious inquiries only.) We'd be more than happy to provide support during the transition.
All the best,
Your HHH Moderators
