After some more discussion with members of the fandom in the notes of my poll asking about a community and elsewhere, it seems like the better option for everyone might actually be a new tag, so I'm making a new poll here!

Some answers to questions I think people might have are below the readmore:

Q: Why are all of these only one word?

A: For the same reason the dpxdc tag is only one word! Tumblr's tagging implementation is Not Good. Tags with spaces don't play well with it, and especially don't play well with blocked tags. If someone wants to block non-crossover Danny Phantom content, we want to make it as painless as possible for them.

Q: What issues were raised around communities?

A: A few! To name some of them:

Limited interactions with posts: Communities only let you react with emoji and leave comments on posts reblogged into them. Not great, if we want to have long reblog chains riffing on one another

Original Posters aren't notified if someone else reblogs their post into a community, even if it's public. So if someone reblogged your post into the community for you, you wouldn't know about it -- or know to look for people interacting with it.

Communities have mods, and therefore would need trustworthy, engaged mods to make it work. Over a short time frame, we could probably manage it! But over a longer one, a community for an entire fandom would probably have moderator drama. That could lead to fracturing, or people leaving specifically because they don't like the mods, etc. A tag is a lot less active maintenance.

A few people also expressed a general dislike for the feature, even if they were willing to move to one. This seems like a much smaller change that will let those people stay away from a feature they don't like, while interacting with the content they do.

Q: What about less-common crossovers? Won't those get excluded from this tag?

A: They will. I'm asking about this poll first because I figured getting the community to make a decision about the other crossovers would be easier if we'd already decided on the non-crossovers.

The current idea is to move those to their own tag as well, so they can get dedicated attention from the crossover enthusiasts who love them. One of the people I talked to about this runs the niche-dp-crossovers blog, so it's on the radar. If you have concerns or suggestions about that, the notes on this post is as good a place as any to suggest them!

jinshi is not an easy person to be in a relationship with — though that almost goes without saying regardless of whether you meet him as the eunuch or as his true self. it’s not through any fault or failings of his own, of course, it’s just a natural consequence of the lives he leads and the responsibilities he has as a member of the inner court

he’s secretive. he has to be. it’s not his choice and he feels so guilty for hiding so much from you for so long, but he knows it’s for the greater good so he continues dismissing and disregarding and deflecting until you’re so frustrated that you stop asking altogether

he’s absent a lot. stuck in meetings, locked up in his office, chasing up officials for one reason or another, checking in on the rear palace and its denizens, away on trips that he doesn’t talk about, or doing whatever other important things he’s assigned to take care of this time. it’s frustrating, you’ll feel isolated and even neglected some days, but it’s so far out of his control that he can’t do anything but grit his teeth and smile through it all (even when he misses you so much he feels sick)

he’s demanding. demanding of your time. demanding of your attention. demanding of your affection. demanding to the extent that he comes across as possessive some days and it leads to arguments that lead to hours spent apart in order to cool off. it’s a lot, he’s a lot, but at least this particular flaw is one that he’s actively trying to work on and that you can see him making progress with the longer you’re together

he’s observant — he pays attention to everything about you, making mental notes about your appearance, your body language, your facial expressions, the things you like and those you don’t, and so on, and he uses that knowledge to be, quite possibly, the most attentive lover the country of li has ever known. not that you’re complaining, of course, but sometimes you do wish that jinshi would understand that he doesn’t need to put in 100% every single day. that you’ll still love him the same even when he’s not doing everything perfectly

SO Homestuck was the only example I could think of at the time as a series that actually did this. I was specifically thinking about franchises/series/works that 100% did not start off intending to be a video game but, in the nature of being a multimedia series, added video game minigames or mobile games as it developed.

This is referring to things like homestuck (a webcomic that featured small browser/flash games within the comic), many idol gacha games** (hypnosis mic, love live), etc. This does not include series that were 'completed' (loosely used since I know many of these frequently get universe-expanding sequels and threequels and whathaveyou) and then had video game spinoffs, such as Star Wars, Marvel, etc.

** exceptions being tracks that are exclusively used in the video game itself, such as BGM.

I know this rule is probably the most complicated one and I'm still trying to figure out how to word it clearly and precisely LMAO. Fundamentally it comes down to intent, which is why I'm still on the fence some things like tracks used exclusively in promotional materials and things like that.

That being said: if the song is originally from a video game as in literally you can hear it while you are playing the video game you are totally in the clear

And according to your second ask (I won't name the songs in case you want to submit them): The one made for and coming from the NES game is fine (of course), AND the one that is the 8-bit version of the NON-VGM one is ALSO FINE, because it was REMIXED for the NES game :).

What's up! New here so sorry if this has been asked before but has the exact same song been submitted more than once before? Like it's clearly different people but the same song keeps getting submitted over and over again?

Ever since Mod Rae cleared duplicates I have no idea anymore, BUT I know there have been a lot of different submissions for a few select Disco Elysium songs. That doesn't shock me because I know it's got a cult following here :).

I do read the notes (when I remember)! I really like hearing people's opinions, and I always look through the tags on songs I know (I find it really hilarious seeing 'is this dark souls?' 'is this nier?' on any orchestral ever). There are a lot of familiar faces but I'd say the majority for any given poll are new or sparsely in the notes :).

I've considered this -- but honestly, that button has always existed as more of a 'I just want to click a button' option than an actual datapoint I'm looking for (I think I might have answered an ask similar to this before but I don't remember so I'm answering it again LOL). When that option dominates, I always read the notes and tags for discussion and I'd encourage anyone who is genuinely interested to do the same. Actual complex opinions, of course, cannot be captured with the limitations of preset poll options anyways LMFAO.

I originally wanted to have them permanently opened (thinking people wouldn't mind waiting for their submissions) until I got an insane amount of submissions, severely underestimating the popularity of this blog. I then tried to do a 24 hr submission period, and then a 12 hr submission period, but both of these still ended up with a fuck ton of submissions so the current answer is 'They're closed until I can figure out something proper'...

I don't want purging the existing submissions to be on the table, but if I get to the 1 year anniversary of this blog without a better option I might have to go that route -- in which case I'd probably publish all the unposted options so people know if theirs was cut so they know to resubmit it if they're still interested.

are fan/non official/non licensed versions of songs allowed? because i am 100% certain #293 is a fan made remaster and medley arrangement (im not the submitter but i know the song well - i found the youtube video the audio is from and the comments from OP confirm it is a fan remix). if they are, that's totally cool, but i couldn't find anything in the submission rules about it. i dont intend this ask to be rude or hostile at all, and either way im grateful you've created such an active community with this blog!

They're not really allowed unless they're from a mod or fangame. Since it's a fanmade remaster it's kind of towing the line, so I'm not inherently against it, but it might end up just being a highly situational thing.

Note: I'm not familiar with Fire Emblem at ALL but I knew this particular song was from an older game, which is why I wasn't opposed to posting the remastered version. In any future submissions I'd appreciate if this sort of thing were indicated just in case! I will add that to the submission guidelines :). And of course if there's a better way to go about this (i.e if the game is like, 30+ years old fanmade remasters/upscales are permitted or something like that) I will make sure that's made clear as well :).

Absolutely! But I think for all future submissions (this doesn't apply now since there's a huge backlog) I might put a hold on the submissions of OSTS from new games for like 1-2 months (i.e No Mario Kart 9 OSTs until two months after the game drops!) so people who are playing/going to play the game have time to play it before hearing the OSTs unprompted.

He even made friends with the people who worked there, which helped to fight off the loneliness that settled into his life. All due to one change in his usual routine, Aziraphale met Crowley‒ a fellow volunteer‒ who was almost the opposite of him in every way. Crowley was flashy and boisterous, and the children who attended his reading circle absolutely adored him. Although Aziraphale really wished he’d pick something other than horror stories to read to them.

Wow, turns out Ford won the Megatron VS Stanford poll by default. That was truly an epic battle, too bad it came to that. No shade to the Megatron side, Transformers is a respectable fandom with tons of content and I'm sure they had fun too, but I wanted to give my two cents here about some... complaints I saw circulating among Megatron fans.

While the alleged use of bots is unfortunate, I'm seeing some people saying that it's some sort of conspiracy by the GF fans (they must be the ones that used bots to discredit Megatron's vote and they're also finding it suspicious that we jumped so fast on the bot theory). Or that we also used bots to counter-attack.

Fair, people may have used alt accounts on both sides, that's usually the case in these polls (we know it's true even if no one would ever admit it), but it's not to the point that thousands of votes land on one side in a very short amount of time. Even the GF side had to earn it for the whole duration of the poll.

I don't think people realize how massive the GF fandom is especially since the publication of The Book of Bill. I've seen at least 2 posts on Tumblr with 5k and 4k notes respectively, and I didn't even actively search for every bit of propaganda that exists, inside or outside Tumblr. I did my part too and though I'm not that popular, I think my writing is decent enough to at least appeal to a few potential voters?

More importantly, I wouldn't really believe in the use of bots if I hadn't been a witness myself. The alleged second attack of bots happened during the night for those living in the United States I think, but I live in Europe and when it happened here, it was noon. I was taking my lunch and to pass time, I went to the poll to read the notes (yes, I'm obsessed by this silly poll), and that's when I saw the numbers change so drastically in only a few minutes. It was monday at noon (elsewhere, it would have been sunday night or monday afternoon). Not a time to vote at this scale. It was a pure coincidence, but once I noticed the spike in numbers I refreshed every minute and every minute, more than a dozen votes were added to Megatron's counter. I couldn't screenshot the numbers, but I know others did and that's why the mod decided to disqualify Megatron.

I wouldn't have minded to lose against such a well-loved icon of fandom, but I have to confess that this level of blatant fraud made me mad. I wouldn't have been bummed if we had lost anyway. I'm happy Ford passed, but it feels like a loss to me because the poll wasn't fair to begin with.

To honor this passionnante battle (I was so invested!), I'll continue to write about Stanford Filbrick Pines, my very pregnant future mother of twins!

Introducing... Steal Off... 2!

That's right. We all love poll stealing, and although we've made the decision to discontinue it for the grand final of the Les Mis Shipping Showdown, we couldn't just let it go entirely. Which is why we're overjoyed to announce Steal Off 2, an absolute free for all to determine which ship from our original bracket is The most loved when it comes to dedicated creators of excellent fanworks.

You heard us, ALL 32 SHIPS entered into this tournament WILL be eligible for submissions, regardless of when they were eliminated. So here really is how [your OTP] can still win.

As a reminder, here's the original bracket (we'll also include a plain text list of ships under a Read More at the end of this post for anybody unable to see/read from the image.)

Did your favourite niche ship like Valjean/Fauchelevent or Fantine/Favourite not make the cut? No worries! As part of Steal Off 2 we will also be holding a separate Newcomers' Championship for those of you who want to show your love for the rarepairs, crackships, etc. that didn't make it to the bracket proper - and who knows, perhaps the steals we receive could be used as supporting evidence for their inclusion in future mini tournaments? 👀

Now onto the boring but vitally important part:

Da Rules

Submissions for Steal Off 2 will OPEN at 00:01 BST (UTC + 1) on Monday 21st April 2025, and close at 19:30 BST (UTC + 1) on Wednesday 30th April 2025.

Any works submitted late OR early will not be counted. Even if it's early or late by one (1) singular calendar minute. If you submit early we might be niceys and politely remind you to resubmit your fanwork once the submission window has opened, but as this rule is intended to avoid overloading the mods during a period where we are both very busy IRL, we might also just get annoyed with you and say you've wasted your chance and your fanwork doesn't count anymore. So don't take that risk!

The submission guidelines and scoring system remain exactly as they did for steal works submitted as part of the bracket, with one exception - ONLY brand new works (or brand new chapters/instalments of existing works) will count for this submission period, with the previous backdating clause now null and void.

As per our post from the other day, works deemed as egregiously low effort, designed to exploit loopholes in the scoring system, or which contribute to a pattern of spamming from a specific fanbase or creator may see their scores reduced or the offending works disqualified from the contest entirely. Part of the reason we have given you a) a nearly ten day submission window and b) almost three weeks' notice before submissions even open is to allow you to focus on creating quality fanworks with real time, effort, and love put in, as opposed to focusing purely on The Points of it all. Think of this as a fandom-wide fanworks fest that just so happens to have a winner at the end ;)

— the text comes through about an hour after you get home from work. it’s an interruption to the youtube video that you’re watching on your shitty laptop while eating dinner. an interruption to your video time is a crime beyond words; even so, you opt to pick up your phone and check the text.

— it’s a picture of you. not just any picture of you, a picture of you hard at work cooking pasta for your boss. a clean black apron was tied around your waist and your brows were furrowed in concentration as you tasted the sauce off a wooden spoon. accompanying this picture was a simple message: ‘you looked so cute cooking today, tesero*.’

— you were a private chef by day, cooking and cleaning dishes for this rich family. the father of the family had passed before your arrival, leaving behind two brothers. they were both bachelors, still living in their childhood home.

— your nose scrunched up in annoyance. the shot was a clear one, almost professionally taken. undoubtedly, it was captured by your stalker. how did he get such a good photo? it’s as though the guy took the picture from inside the house. or, he’d been right outside the kitchen window.

— you opt to reply with something just as simple. ‘don’t go near my place of work again.’ he’d managed to get past your bosses’ security and close to the window — it was unsafe, not just for you but for them. they’d treated you well. you weren’t going to risk them getting hurt.

—your stalker doesn’t take too kindly to your words. ‘don’t be like that :( i won’t hurt anybody, i promise. i just like to see you.’

— you scoff at the response before sending one back. ‘i don’t trust that.’

— ‘:(( i don’t like when you’re mad at me. what can i buy to make you happy with me, mio amore?*’

— ‘you can’t buy my affection. stay away from my place of work.’ you huff before sitting back. who did he think he was? you glance back at the youtube video you were watching, only to realize your old laptop had completely shut down. when you felt the bottom, it became clear that it overheated. maybe downloading all those sims mods wasn’t a great idea... after some thought, a minute later you texted him, ‘a new laptop would be nice.’

— ‘consider it done ❤️’. the reply is sent seconds later. you didn’t know it, but he was grinning to himself. a new laptop for his darling, one with special programs already downloaded… what a perfect request from you.

— your phone dings at work. you pick it up, a slight smile on your face as you recognize the ‘unknown’ number. you ought to make him a contact at this point — he’s been stalking you for how long? and, more important, how long have you been playing into it, enjoying it?

— this time it’s a picture of you at the grocery market, while you were down the frozen treat aisle. ‘didn’t know my sweet had an eye for sweets’ it reads. how cute. your attention’s taken off of your work as you think of a clever little reply.

— feeding into his delusions was definitely wrong; you should’ve gone to the authorities. you had threatened him many times, but never followed through. how could you? he was the one piece of excitement in your otherwise dull life. it’s not that things were bad… they were just too stable. your routine had become monotonous and your mind craved the mental stimulation that good banter could offer; if it happened to come from your stalker, well… if nothing else, he was a source of free entertainment. and, at times, companionship and comfort, despite his depravity. you were just as depraved as your stalker was, though. only difference was that you could hide it. ah, but back to that response…

— ‘looks like you don’t know me as well as you thought’. it’s something of an insult, implying his stalking skills weren’t up to par. it’s also a challenge to prove you wrong.

— ‘really? i know your shoe size and sense of fashion. remember that shirt i bought you friday? and don’t forget i know your favorite foods.’ you can almost hear his voice, a note of irritation hidden within his tone. the mere thought was attractive — god, you really were depraved — a second message comes in shortly afterwards. ‘i love learning new things about you anyways, mon chèr*.’

— i’m sure you do. you let out a quiet chuckle, glancing around to make sure no one was watching you slack off. ‘send me some ice cream and i’ll be nice to you on the phone tonight. buy my favorite flavor.’

— ‘demanding much?’ you’re sure he scoffed before sending the message. he’d walked right into your trap, though.

— ‘i’ll flirt back this time. you can even record the audio. don’t you want that, mon petit ami?*’ thank god for those three years of french you took in highschool. would you really flirt back? maybe. maybe not. you just needed him to think that you would.

— his reply is immediate. he’s caught in your web. ‘ouias. can i have a hint of your favorite flavor?*’

— ‘no. good luck.’ you smile to yourself before trying to refocus on work. tonight would be interesting at least… andyou’d be satisfying your sweet tooth.

— as you get ready for bed, you hear a soft buzzing noise coming from your phone. ah. you roll your eyes as you check the notification. it’s the same unknown number that’s been texting you for the last month. this time, the message includes a photo. as tired as you are, you’re still quite curious, so you open the text just to be met with a dark picture of you sleeping in bed two nights ago. what. the. fuck.

— you knew what night it was because of your pajamas. you were asleep in the photo, body completely relaxed and unaware of anyone being in your room, watching you. your eyes narrow as you read the accompanying message. ‘i just wanted to say goodnight, sleepyhead 😊’. right…

— you’d let the texts go on because quite frankly, they were a boost to your ego. that, and you may have gotten drunk once and texted him back. but now, they had to stop. ‘i’m blocking this number. if you text me again, i’ll call the cops. and don’t come near my house again.’

— his reply takes a moment. ‘you sleep better when i’m watching you, you know. i’m only keeping you safe.’

— you let out a snort. ‘that’s not fucking true.’ your reply is blunt, which hopefully will throw him off.

— ‘i know you love me. drunk words are sober thoughts. you’re just tired now. go to sleep, koshka*.’ well shit, that didn’t work at all.

— you’ve never seen the guy. you’ve never even heard his voice. you knew only his name and the fact that he was utterly obsessed with you. and you? you were.. unsure of how you felt about him. the attention felt good and.. surely it wasn’t bad to want some attention every now and then. still, he was fucking creepy, taking pictures of you from in your room somehow.

— finally, you sent a last reply. ‘goodnight, ivan.’

— you didn’t see it until the morning, but ivan sent back a reply of his own. not just a message, but another picture — a picture sent at 2 am of him in bed in the dark. a man around your age, with silver hair and vibrant, violet eyes. his nose caught your eye immediately. it was.. hot… he was looking up at the camera with a small smile. ‘thought of you as i went to bed. we’re both in bed at the same time, aren’t we? goodnight, koshka*.’

— it’s a lazy sunday for you. you’re lounging about the couch, enjoying yourself, when you get a message from that special number. he’s been calling and texting for months. by now, it wasn’t even one sided. it was… complicated. even so, you smiled as you saw he had texted you. he usually doesn’t text on mondays. any other day, sure, but you’re certain he hates mondays.

— you check the text out and it’s a picture from an old social media account you had as a teenager. your eyes widen. you thought you deleted it! underneath the picture he sent you a simple message, ‘LOL’.

— ‘where’d you get that?’ you asked him. it’s not like you had the power to scrub your old pictures from the internet but you definitely deleted that account years ago. you’d prefer to never see any of your tween tumblr pics ever again.

— ‘i have my ways. you were a cute kid.’ he replies, much to your annoyance. you’re about to tell him to delete it when he sends a follow up picture, one of him as a teen. ‘just so we’re fair,’ he says ‘here’s a picture of me’.

— the picture captures a lanky kid with pale skin and a nervous look on his face, which is covered in acne. faint blonde curly hair is all about his head and in his hand is an old purple game boy. his nails are painted black and his skinny jeans are of a similar color. the picture reminds you of a different time; a time where emo kids walked about and converse were the coolest shoe you could have. he must really be in love with you. more than obsessed, he was in love. and he trusted you. why else would he show a picture of him as a kid? especially one like that?

— you smile a little to yourself. ‘you were cute, too.’ an awkward kid, you were sure, but still cute. how he’d grown into the man he was today.. the man who fell for you.. well, who knows.

— ‘i still am.’ he replies. he doesn’t send a picture of his face, likely to keep himself somewhat anonymous. smart. but he does send a picture of him flexing his biceps. which.. well, it’s a picture you decide to save. what? you have needs! ‘i have muscle now too.’

— ‘you’re feeling sharing today, aren’t you?’ you tease. every day, the two of you seem to grow closer and closer. he’s grown far less violent, too — maybe because you’ve grown a lot more willing.

— ‘do i get a reward for being so open?’ he says, ‘maybe let me in your house? i’ll be a good boy, promise.’

— you set your phone down, biting your lip. he’s so charming it’s frustrating. how do you even reply to that? you shift in your seat, rereading the message… how to reply, how to reply!

☆ TRANSLATIONS.

— *”tesero” should translate to darling. i used the masculine form because that’s more gender neutral.

— *”mio amore” should translate to my love.

— *”mon cher” means my dear or my darling.

— *”mon petit ami” means my boyfriend, (literally) my little friend.

— *”ouias” means yes or yeah (a very casual yes).

— *”koshka” should translate to kitten. i like to think he calls reader kitten because of how feisty they are; enough of the “sunflower” pet name in fics!
