you ever watch someone who works in elemental magic? just lifting an orb out of the water and rotating it. controlling the spread of fire into nine tails? closing a door with a gust of wind?

they manifest these things with their energy and then it's dissipated. there's no permanence to elemental magic.

that's writing for me. pulling it out of the depths and then if it dissipates, it dissipates.

one thing that's really cool about elemental magic is the generally accepted impermanence - with a few exceptions. like a fire that burns forever. a lake frozen solid. these are curses which are essentially just a curse of elemental time.

i used to work under a really tough albanian woman. a beloved mentor, i miss her dearly. she was the only person with any standards around here. we were working on a project together and i spent days drawing details for an exterior door on a historic building. understand that i built my details from extensively studying photographs of it and comparing them to my 1947 edition of architectural graphic standards. since we didn't have the original 1908 drawings and modern wood door details were too removed from what i was seeing. i will save previous iterations of my drawings off to the side in modelspace in case i want to take pieces of them later. it saves me a lot of time. and she just went in uh, and fucking deleted all my off-to-the side marginalia. and i was like, "uh. hey......... where are all my lines" and she said to me, "h, there is nothing you have ever drawn before that you could not draw again."

and we were both really type-a so i was like, "...what in the efficiency-hell are you talking about?" i wish i'd learned, at that point, to understand the way she was with compliments. she was saying, "h, you can draw anything and you could do it over and over." instead of saying, "sorry for deleting all of that."

but now. yeah.

that's writing for me. delete it all, i'll just make more.

i think because there is so commonly a reading of architects as arrogantly interested in "permanence" and "legacy" that i flat out reject it

archive, sure, let's get a chronology. but nothing is so precious. i'm pulling water out of water. and to the water it shall return.

Move things between modelspace and paperspace

I earlier written a short tip about moving lines from paperspace to modelspace, in that case to outline a viewport as to be able to trace it in Revit.

I now have a need to move modelspace objects to paperspace, and what do you know? It’s the same commande! (the command is acctually “change space” but AutoCAD shorthand it chspace)

Just place yourself in the layout tab that you want to copy to, activeate the correct viewport, mark the element you want to copy and write chspace [enter]. you will probably not see anything change since the line in the layout is in the same place as the line in modelspace, but if you copy somehting that extends outside the viewport you should see it, or if you change to paperspace and move the viewport.

Well, a short while ago, there was a 'Build Your Own Thunderbird 2' done by ModelSpace / Deagostini that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED.

It was a 1:144 perfect replica scale model of the TOS Thunderbird 2 as well as SEVERAL iconic pod vehicles and non-Thunderbird Craft, all at the 1:144 scale.

It was my pride and joy (destroyed by the watermain, much like my gunpla, Zoids, transformers, comics, and books) and I keep hoping that we'll see the other 'Birds being made. a 1:144 One with her Bay and perhaps a few other vehicles, a 1:144 Three and Five as a set...

I LOVE building things (it's why I love Zoids and Gundam so much) and it was a PERfect REPLICA with working standing legs that let 2 rise and settle with the touch of a button, had various sounds and lights... just AWESOME

I want more merch like that!!

IDBOX! - Ende und Anfang (2)

Benchy mit Raft gedruckt

Das ist nun der Anfang. Anfang?

Ja hier beginnt die Arbeit und eventuell auch das Vergnügen mit der IDBOX!. In 1, Teil dieses Artikels hatte ich ja zum Schluß schon gedruckt. Aber in der Wirklichkeit ging das gar nicht so schnell.

Als schnellen Testdruck hatte ich mir eine kleine Halterung für ein Arduino ausgesucht. Den hatte ich schon öfters mit meinem Geeetech I3 gedruckt und nun sollte auch die IDBOX! mal loslegen. STL Datei auf den Repetier-Host gelanden, mit Cura gesliced und dann fuhren die Achsen in Home-Position, danach die Z-Achse bis zur Position 15 nach oben. PAUSE. Da ging nichts mehr. Eigentlich sollte das Hotend aufgeheizt werden - es blieb aber immer auf Zimmertemperatur stehen und stieg nicht an.

Was nun machen? Zum Glück gibt es ja im Internet gute Leute die helfen können. Und auch Foren, die einem mit Rat und Tat zur Seite stehen. So einen Platz fand ich im Forum der deAgostini Webseite ModelSpace.  Dort gab es nun auch das gleiche Problem und Daniel (TheEvil5284) konnte helfen. Ich habe ihn per PN angeschrieben und mir wurde auch prompt weitergeholfen. Danke Daniel. Die Lösung: Repetier Host hat auf die Aufheizung des Druckbettes gewartet.

Nun fing das Drucken an. Das sah ganz gut aus, aber nach ein paar Minuten hob sich die linke vordere Ecke etwas an. Ich habe dann trotzdem fertiggedruckt und der Druck sieht bis auf die gehobene Kante einigermaßen vernünftig aus.

Nun sollte mein Benchy gedruckt werden, den ich im ersten Teil ja schon erwähnt hatte. Da ich mir eine bessere Haftung vorgestellt habe. sollte das "Testschiffchen" mit einem Brim gedruckt werden. Das gab ich aber nach 2 Versuchen auf, der Brim hat sich immer wieder von der BuildTake Matte gelöst. Nun habe ich im Sclicer Raft eingebunden. 

Damit ging das Drucken auch richtig gut voran und in 50 Minuten war Benchy gedruckt. Das Ablösen vom Druckbett ging dann gut vonstatten, aber die Raft-Schicht lässt sich nicht vom Boden des Benchy lösen. So kann man dann auch nicht sehen, ob der Schriftzug (Test) sich gut abgezeichnet hat.

Als erster Druck war das "Schiffchen" nicht so schlecht geworden, hat aber dann dich ein paar "Macken". Und wen es weiter interessiert. Gedruckt wurde Benchy mit weißen PLA PolyPlus von Polymaker. Dieses Filament lag einer der Sendungen bei. Drucktemperatur war 200°C/0. Resolution 0,2 mm, Druckgeschwindigkeit zwischen 40 und 60 mm/s.

Und dann noch in Großaufnahme einige der "Benchy" Fehler. Da muss noch etwas justiert werden.
