On one hand I get the caution of 'nothing happens until the first official women's tag match for the belts actually happens on live tv' from a lifetime of being burned. But looking at this one in particular I think it's a safe bet to say this is something that is going to happen in the next six months based on the following:

AEW major storylines are at least loosely plotted a lot more than a year in advance, with additional contingencies for things like dealing with injuries and other changes now that Tony has (4? 6?) people helping him with it full time.

The number of women's tag matches and women's multi-matches has skyrocketed in recent months along with slowly introducing more mixed tags and tornado tags, around the time Megan Bayne debuted and was paired with Penelope Ford. I'd say this is definitely a softening up/prepping of the audience for what's to come.

Actually ordering a pair of women's tag belts is a huge commitment to being serious about this direction, not only in terms of investing thousands of dollars financially but because the belts do a lot to represent AEW as a company. Not to mention the global supply chain is still Absolutely Fucked and any kind of order for something custom is likely to take three times longer than anticipated even in 2025, trust me.

Speaking of belts and representation of the company, there's been a lot of focus on reinvention of the belts for the company lately, and a refocusing on elevating and redefining their importance. The continued elevation of the Owen Hart belts. The unification of the Continental and International titles into the Unified Championship. The push for the TNT title to move away from its roots on Collision to be a more stable midcard title across the promotion.

And of course: The AEW Men's World Championship (as Hangman makes sure we remember to call it), which has been missing for 8 months and counting, hidden in a briefcase. Mox has taken it out of the public eye and refused to let the world remember what it looks like other than Toni's larger twin, by design. Some complain this has reduced its value. Mox insists the point is that the bauble should not matter. The crown is not the reason you fight to rule.

This is why Swerve failed at Dynasty. For all he was a magnificent champion, he was a champion in love with being champion and the trappings it came with, and he wanted to win to secure his legacy and the trinket that legitimized it. Mox, for all his faults, is honest in his Spartan mentalities that a leader is needed to dethrone him that will not give a shit about the actual belt itself, but about the good of AEW and representing the company to maintain its stability. Any respect for the belt must come from the fact it shows you are AEW.

And finally, the fact that AEW has always been a Tag-Heavy promotion, co-founded by tag team wrestlers and vocally in support of maintaining tag team wrestling. Stories like FTR talking about how they left WWE because tag team wrestling was not respected and the tag belts were diminished by terrible runs of just having a couple guys thrown together for a couple runs over and over have been popping up on interviews and social media again lately, and I don't think that's a coincidence.

So adding all of these elements together? Yeah, I think this is something that's been in the works for a while, and given the quality of the product for the last year I think they've earned a bit of grace for me to make the assumption that this is them introducing women's tag wrestling to America with as much gravitas, seriousness, and hype as they can provide.

I'm excited to see where it goes.

Here's some more headcanons I have about them 😁 honestly I've got so many different ideas on how their dynamic could be that some of them wouldn't fit together well or need to be left out of a story but that's okay!

Here's just some general ones that have been on my mind recently:

-Staci spends most of his time with Jacob learning everything he can about him. It's obviously a survival mechanism for him and something that Jacob comes to rely on without realizing it.

Staci needs to be useful to Jacob and what better way then to anticipate all his needs. Jacob's pen runs out of ink and Staci's instantly there with a replacement, Jacob misplaced his radio and Staci immediately digs it out of a pile of paperwork, Jacob didn't put his boots by his bed the night before and wakes to them exactly where he likes them, unlaced neatly and all.

If we're following canon then after Staci's "betrayal" he finds himself lifting a hand expecting what he needs to be handed to him, or goes to grab coffee but making it too strong (not how Staci would make it) and it would piss Jacob off because suddenly he misses and feels Staci's absence and relying on someone like that is Weakness! How could he have not noticed how reliant he's become on this one sinner?

-Staci is scrappy, he's not afraid to fight dirty and will use any trick he can come up with to fight someone off, but I don't think he ever throws the first punch. He can be aggressive and stand his ground but if he hit a Peggie first he'd have to answer to Jacob terrifying. Also I think he can't bring himself to be violent towards the other prisoners unless they are first, he feels like he failed these people he was supposed to protect so even when Jacob puts a gun in his hand and orders him to "put them out of their misery" he can't do it. He'll shake and try and try because he needs to show Jacob he's strong but in the end, even when he's under the music box's influence, he can't pull the trigger.

-At first Staci is terrified of the wolves, but after a while of seeing the process they go through he realizes they're not so different from each other.

I like to think that he's one of the only people that actually spends time learning their behavior and starts to figure out their dynamics (much like he does with Jacob) which creates a bond with them. It's not perfect and not all of them are friendly but they clearly show favoritism towards Staci when he's around.

-Staci is a chewer, he'll chew on pen tips and pencils if he's nervous or deep in thought, pull long strands of grass out and nibble on the end, he'd chew on Jacob if he'd let him.

- I have a lil mini headcanon that Staci got his ears pierced during school. He went to Claire's or something with a girlfriend cause she wanted to pierce her ears but she got scared and opted out but didn't want the trip to go to waste so Staci just shrugged and said he'll do it (cause he wanted to look cool in front of her and show how manly he was for not being scared). He wore them regularly for years until the second month of his job on the force. He was answering a call with his training officer and nearly got his ear torn off by a drunk guy resisting arrest.

- which leads me to the next headcanon! Jacob is touchy, he grabs and holds and pats and pinches. So when he saw Staci's pierced ears it was just another thing to haze him with. In the beginning he'd flick his ears and call him names which over time would become more of a sweet and teasing gesture than an aggressive one.

If they were out somewhere Jacob would pull him in by the back of the head or have an arm slung over Staci's shoulders or hold him and talk over his shoulder to whoever had his attention at the time. At first Staci wouldn't be sure if he could touch Jacob back but the first time he initiated it Jacob seemed to be more possessive that day and had Staci glued to his hip.

-Staci kinda ends up acting like a working service dog for Jacob's ptsd. If he wakes from a nightmare Staci would act like a weighted blanket and his even breathing would lull Jacob back to sleep. If he was having a flashback Staci would make more obvious noise and distract Jacob from his thoughts. He'd make tea on rough days and let Jacob hold him as long as he needed.

-on the flip side, I think Jacob feels like he needs to protect someone, and sure Staci's strong and can handle himself which makes Jacob proud but if Staci is sick suddenly it's the only thing on his mind and if someone interrupts his thoughts or care then there'll be hell to pay.

-Jacob never says "I'm sorry" or "I love you" (it's super toxic). He especially won't apologize and doubles down on his bs even if he knows he's wrong, he'll make Staci upset and panicked but later he'll try to make it up to him by his actions (joining him in finishing the dishes wordlessly or making him a meal he likes or giving him a massage at the end of the day). Staci is so used to reading Jacob that he sees what these wordless "apologies" are and accepts it even tho it still frustrates him sometimes that they don't have a proper discussion about it.

-Staci being terrified at first of making a wrong move and being punished for it but over time as their relationship develops, if Jacob tries to pull the same shit as he did before Staci will snap back in a rage. Like how DARE Jacob try to make him feel like that again. Meanwhile Jacob might as well be the equivalent of a cartoon wolf floating after him with giant hearts for eyes and the awooga sound effect.

For more non cult/ not canon complient stuff:

-Jacob sends Staci short king tiktoks and memes. The first one was a psa style video that said "Friends, keep an eye out for your short kings today the eagles ate out." With a badly cgi'd video of a guy being scooped up by an eagle.

Jacob send him a "Be careful out there babe 😔"

Staci just sends back a "???" "I'm 6'0 Jacob"

-Staci in turn retaliates by calling anything mildly outdated "vintage" and makes ginger jokes.

-they argue over who could pick up who better at the bar. It's a long argument. Eventually Staci uses his secret weapon and Jacob folds (it's literally just Staci falling to his knees and looking up at him with big puppy eyes and saying "please-please-please" over and over again)

- On one of their earlier dates Jacob "Mr. Sunny Georgia" Seed once tries to talk Staci into crossing a frozen lake with him cause "it's a shortcut to the cabin" to which Staci promptly gives him a rundown of why that is a Bad Idea and asks him if Jacob brought him out there to kill him cause Staci "knows people" and they'll know where to look for his body (note he did not in fact inform anyone of his whereabouts or who he'll be out with).

-Staci's not born in Montana but he's definitely raised there and when Jacob tries to mansplain hunting and offroading to him Staci just says "no offense (full offense actually) but I've been hunting probably as long as you have. There's not much legal shit a teen can do in a small town, it was either that or crystal meth at the goat house (it's called that cause the guy who lives there always has one goat out front)."

Golf Monty doesn't understand its an affectionate nickname. He thinks you're just asking him where to find the gator cakes at 😭 when someone explains it to him he just thinks it's cute

1. Protective of the Bucks from people who are shitty to them

2. Pro people doing whatever the fuck they want including some forms of niche content for niche audiences where one goes in aware what those niches are

3. He put down his bowl of algae and choked down a wave of nausea. As he looked around, seeing all their expectant faces, he felt himself begin to stumble, out of breath, his vision turning dark, as if the lights had been deemed.

He reached out to knock out Emori’s bowl down. “Don’t- don’t drink-“

“Murphy?” he heard.

“John? John!”

“Oh shit.”

“John? What’s happening? What did you do?!”

He didn’t faint immediately. For what felt like long minutes, John was convinced he was in agony. Set to die in the same wretched place he’d been born, leaving Emori alone amidst its grey walls.

A poor joke, after everything else his short life had thrown at him.

Despite having lived outside for the first ~six weeks of their lives, my kitties are now scared of the outside (they're scared of pretty much everything, poor little furballs). They've never tried to escape.

I'm a big fan of Catios and similar constructions. My cousin's kitty loves going out on their balcony to sit in the sun and occasionally bat at insects (they used to have the balcony covered in netting, but now he's arthritic and never jumps):

I'm planning to move later this year, and I'm hoping my new place will enable such a setup! Very excited about the prospect. :D Remains to be seen whether my cats will enjoy it, though... they are all pretty content indoors.
