Cartoon Network Friday Spotlight- "Mouse Trouble"

Don't you believe it~~

This has always been one of my favorite Tom and Jerrys, in which Tom receives a book meant to give him advice on how to catch mice, only for it to not quite as planned.

The question is if Jerry is too smart for the tricks to work or if the book isn't effective... but I think there's a third answer to consider- Tom just sucks. Isn't that delightful?

What makes "Mouse Trouble" work is how memorable and well-paced the gags are. Besides the aforementioned gag, there's plenty of good bits, including a rare time when Tom has lasting harm doled upon him- note the horrid red toupee he wears throughout the rest of the short. It's good stuff, all in all.

Mousemallow

One of the Smallest and Arguably cutest Garden inhabitants- Mousemallows are cheerful, if not bashful creatures. They can be attracted at any level, and are tamed if haven eaten a Turnip!

im was not american as a child (although i did try to convince my mother to move us to nyc after getting obsessed with stuart little) so i do not understand the sexual appeal of gadget hackwrench that is often espoused to me. ive seen images of her. she just looks too much like a kid to me.

I was never much of a religious man.

The belief of God, of course, was ingrained into me when I was young. As a child, I had no issues with it. Why would I? Everyone around me was faithful, and therefore it would be odd if I wasn't.

I do not remember when I stopped believing in God. I did not want to give up on Him, but He seemed to have given up on me already. I searched passionately for the thing that brought the people around me comfort and purpose, and found nobody and nothing.

That is, until He called out to me.

Not the God that I was taught to believe in, not the deity that had abandoned me. He was real. He was real and I could hear Him, there in my cell. I was instantly converted. His words were low and smooth, a pleasant change from the yelling in the asylum. He spoke of such wonderful promises, of rewards that I would be guaranteed with if only I followed Him.

That day I discovered what I was destined for. I was not some common loon, to be locked away and forgotten about. See, my madness has a method! I am not "insane" for what I do, I have a very good reason. It is not my fault that my doctor believes that very reason to be rooted in delusions.

He is no mere figment of my imagination. I know He is real. I know very well. My knees are not red for nothing, I pray to somebody who can hear me. God, or the Devil, whatever people may call Him…

I was never a man of much faith until that night, and He was now my devoted place of worship.

Xisuma leaned back against the wall of Etho's base, arms folded across his chest. Etho was sitting nearby, absently turning a redstone torch over in his hands, eyes distant in thought.

"So, what do you think you'll get up to between now and next season?" Xisuma asked, breaking the comfortable silence. Etho glanced up, his eyes flicking over to Xisuma.

"I’ve got a few ideas," Etho said, setting the torch down. "Might do some traveling, work on those solid illusions a bit more. Could be fun to test out what I’ve learned."

Xisuma raised an eyebrow. "Finally perfecting the whole ‘being in two places at once’ thing, huh?"

"Maybe," Etho chuckled. "You know me, I like a challenge."

Xisuma shook his head fondly. "You’ll overwork yourself. Again."

Etho shot him a mock-offended look, but the amused look in his eyes gave him away. "Says the guy who’s probably going to spend the entire break working on new datapacks."

"That’s not overworking," Xisuma protested lightly. "It’s… preparation."

"Sure it is." Etho’s eyes softened, his voice taking on a more genuine tone. "But don’t forget to take some time off too, yeah? It wouldn’t hurt to relax a little."

Xisuma looked at him for a moment, then sighed. "Alright, alright, I’ll try. What about you? Going to take your own advice?"

Etho glanced away, lips twitching as if he were holding back something. "I’ve got plans. Nothing too intense."

Xisuma raised an eyebrow, suspicious. "Plans, huh?"

"Yup." Etho grinned, getting up from his spot and stretching. "And maybe I’ll drag you into them. Who knows?"

Death Cab's gonna have a Plans show in Chicago in August... unfortunately my enjoyment of death cab is sort of a cumulative 'i really love like, 25 songs that are scattered across their entire discography' kind of thing, so if i went to the effort of going to Chicago to see them, i'd really just be going to hear Crooked Teeth, and to a lesser extent Marching Bands of Manhattan and Soul Meets Body

Hi everybody, sorry to have been so quiet lately! 2025 started off a little rough on this end but it's probably quite a bit rougher for some of you across the pond for reasons we all know and loathe already. Despite that, I hope life is treating you okay (or will start getting better soon - some of you have been through some really rough patches which none of you deserve and I wish things were better for you all 🙁) Just a smol life update about a little somebody I haven't mentioned for a while - R.orschach, my corn snake! It's been one whole year since he came home with me way back in 2024 as an itty bitty shoelace and he's uh, grown quite a bit since living it up in his lovely big vivarium?

Unfortunately it's the best photo of us since my health hasn't been the best these last few months (curse you winter!) but I'm determined not to let 2025 be a shitty year for writing like 2024 was! Making a spot of dinner really quick and then we'll see about tackling an ask or two. After not writing for a while, it's daunting af to even look at what's waiting but thank you all so much for your patience and love! Really hoping to get connected with you all again in spite of how awful the world state is rn. Keep holding on as best you can, people - nothing is forever and things will get better soon! <3
