Somebody’s bound to have said this before but can we talk about all the different meanings for the lines And you know how those Muses are/Sometimes they abandon you

First: Orpheus being abandoned by his mother, a literal Muse, hence why he’s being raised and protected by Hermes.

Second: Muse in the figurative sense, as inspiration, and it being notoriously fickle and fleeting. Muse abandoning Orpheus while he attempts to finish his song, though he abandons his own Muse just the same.

Third: Orpheus abandoning Eurydice in her time of need. Not on purpose; he’s entirely too wrapped up in his song. But nonetheless, she calls for him and he isn’t there. Unintentional as it may have been, he still abandoned her for the song he needed to complete.

Fourth: Eurydice as Orpheus’s other Muse, half figurative and half literal. Eurydice encouraging Orpheus to finish his song, which causes him to hyper focus on it, while Eurydice abandons him for the stability and comfort she needs. She abandons the unknowns and stormy weather of his world (which she knows intimately) for the shelter, certainty and safety of the world six feet under the ground below.

What I love about Hadestown in part is the depth it gave to Orpheus and Eurydice’s relationship. When the chips were down, neither of them could give the other what they needed: shelter for Eurydice, and an end to the song for Orpheus.

Orpheus also quite literally descends for his Muse (Eurydice) and discovers his figurative Muse and finishes the song. Eurydice realizes that she wants to be with Orpheus in the world above, and that the price for what she wanted was steeper than she knew. They both return to each other and realize (too late), that they are all they need.

Those lines foreshadow all the tragedy to come in a million different ways and yet we watch Orpheus and Eurydice fall in love and believe that maybe this time it will be different.

Realising that if I talk about Jiles, Garashir, Siskoshir etc., half the time I mean it platonically - or, at least, not explicitly romantically. I just like to smush their names together in my brain. (Plus, "Julian &" is four syllables long, which feels like forever in a short description, yknow?)

Anyway, for Jiles and Garashir at least, the space between platonic or romantic is so small its just a sidestep really. They're definitely in love, so does it really matter if they're kissing? ✨

One of Valter's simpler formal fits; the entire look is designed to be water-resistant since the ball is near the ocean. That it would storm so badly wasn't exactly expected, but at least he isn't too terribly equipped for it.

The lowest layer is a long-sleeved swim shirt; above that is a swim shirt similar to the one he wore for Happyland, only that this one is a hue bluer; the lower draperies are attached to the belt, as are the chains attached his side. (Those chains are, perhaps, the only accessories not perfectly waterproof.) Boots are water-resistant, white gloves are worn over the sleeves, and his charm is worn as a necklace clearly visible to any onlookers. (That his hair tie matches is entirely coincidence.)
