Sometimes I see a book review that's like "THIS BOOK 👉 📖 is SICK 🤢 and TWISTED 😵‍💫 Not only are there TORTURE SCENES 😵🩸 against WOMEN 🙋‍♀️ (anti feminist much????! 😡) but also SEX 🫂 VIOLENCE 🔪 and RELIGIOUS TRAUMA?? 🙏⛪ (random???? 🫥🤔) I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK 🙅❌ to ANYONE ‼️‼️ it is PERVERSE 🤨 and WEIRD!!! 😱 I did NOT expect this from THIS BOOK!!.! 😤" and the book is titled The Twisted Pervert's Guide to Torture and Lesbian Nun Sex

Reading Mockingjay as an adult is extra devastating because. Of course the plucky teenager and her ragtag friends aren't going to sneak into a government building to kill the president with a bow and arrow. That's absolutely ridiculous. It's the kind of thing that's only possible in the kind of propaganda that Coin developed. But she's so good at it that in some ways she tricks the reader into thinking that's the kind of story this is, too--even after 3 books reminding us that pretty much everything that Katniss does the second she volunteers is manipulated by adults pulling strings to make propaganda in some form or another.

Tenna asks Spamton, freaks out and spirals, Spamton whose been wanting to smooch that TV for a while smooshes his face against Tenna’s back, Tenna gets big again, smooshes face against the puppet, Tenna does not have his walking cane, loses balance and falls down.

I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.

Batman regularly conducts performance evaluations/reviews for all the justice league members on an annual basis

Someone in the league, probably Hal or Barry, brings up how unfair it is that none of the robins have to go through it, when it's the most daunting thing ever. So now, the batkids have to go through mandatory performance reviews too

In June 2021 I was reading my favorite book, The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green, in the psych ward, feeling completely hopeless and alone.

Today I was reading my favorite book, The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green, in the waiting room to go to the first doctor visit on the road to start testosterone.

I know how it feels to think that you would be better off dead, but today I also know that:

still thinking about john/simon/reader where both you and simon have daddy issues, and found them soothed within john.

the push and pull between the two of you, competing so desperately for your captain’s attention when he freely gives it out, anyway. the way he brushes his shoulder to yours, or the way he knocks his knuckles on the dip of simon’s spine.

john is a vast pool of affection, but you and simon come snapping your maws, tugging at each other’s tails like john doesn’t croon and coo and welcome your messes into his den. like he doesn’t cup your jaw and tell you how proud he is of you, or that he doesn’t clamp a heavy hand on simon’s thigh and sit with him while simon’s forcing his haunting back within the labyrinths of his mind.

so when john asked, all crinkled eyes and coaxing smile, if you and simon can be kind to each other, well, what else is there to do if not just that?

(there are nights, now, when you wake up and it is simon who’s curled up close to you. not close enough to touch, but close enough that you feel the mattress dip more than usual—a reminder that you are not alone, anymore. that you can sleep good, now. that you no longer need to be on alert even through your exhaustion because no one will come after you, anymore. john’s made sure of that.
